SMEs in Singapore
1. Introduction Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) form the majority of the enterprises in Singapore
s economy. They employ over 70% of Singapore s workforce and generate about 50% of the country s
total GDP. Most SMEs in Singapore grow from small enterprises into large competitive companies.
Manufacturing and wholesale SME sectors have increased impressively with the number of
employees in these sectors increasing by up to 8%. SMEs in the Finance, Property and holdings sector
hold the top three sectors in terms of the amount of profits accrued. Competitive strategies in
Singapore s SMEs are based on the 3MK key success factors; Management, Markets, Money and
Knowhow (Bull Winter, 1991). In this paper, the contribution of SMEs to Singapore, the economic
constraints that face them, and the steps that can be taken to strengthen SMEs to ensure its sustained
contribution to Singapore s economy will be discussed.
2. Contribution of SMEs in Singapore SMEs in Singapore generate a large share of new jobs. The
government handed out $98 million to be used in upgrading projects for small and medium sized
enterprises with the sole aim of increasing a torrent of new jobs. According to the Minister of State for
Trade and Industry, Teo Ser Luck, these projects would create 15,000 new jobs and produce over $4.4
billion to the economy in terms of value added. SMEs employ more labor intensive production

Jerry Koeehler Biography
Jerry Koehler: From St. Louis U. to Cathedral High (1963)
In 1963, Jerry Koehler graduates from St. Louis University with a BS degree. With a major in history
and a minor in education, he has already been hired to teach history at Cathedral High School in
Belleville.
Although he receives scholarship help, first for basketball and later for baseball, the remaining part of
his $800 tuition per semester is paid for by his parents.
Throughout his four years at the university, he lives at home and commutes in a car pool with other
students from Belleville. Although this limits his social life on the campus, the education he receives
is outstanding. In addition to being prepared to teach his subject matter, he receives inspiration from

Every history major has to pass an extensive written exam dealing with the history of the world. In
addition to this, Jerry is required to go into a room with three history professors who, for one half
hour, ask questions on any topics in history. Much of Jerry s apprehension is the circulation of horror
stories about students who were not allowed to graduate because they did not pass these
comprehensive exams. However, Jerry is ecstatic when he comes out after finishing his oral exams.
He has missed only one question over the 30 minute period. Although he cannot remember a single
question that he answers correctly, for the remainder of his life he will always remember the one that
he missed knowing that it was in his mind a trick question. He is asked, Who had the greatest
influence on thought during the Middle Ages, Saint Augustine or Saint Thomas Aquinas? These are
arguably the two most important theologians in all of Christian history and Jerry chooses the wrong
one, that is, Aquinas. And why did Augustine have the greater influence? Because he came at the
beginning of medieval history while Aquinas came toward the end of the

The Presence of Corruption in Bangladesh
Corruption is found everywhere in the world, but the less developed nations are found to be more
corrupt. In Asia, Bangladesh is one of the most corrupt nations. Ever since the independence of this
South Asian nation it has been fraught with instability and corruption. As new nation Bangladesh has
to face various political and economic issues. Patronage networks, military coups and civil violence
are the few issues that ruin the political system of this nation. Much of the political instability has lead
to challenges in its economic development. Bangladesh lags behind in natural resources and capital
thus affecting the development of the nation. Natural causes such as floods and cyclones are
significant to why Bangladesh struggle to maintain economic growth. Bangladesh has to confront
many problems in its environment and overpopulation. Industrialization leads to increase in pollution
production leading to adverse effects in the environment. Bangladesh is strongly unstable and a
corrupt nation because of its failing economy, political instability, and social problems. The
development of Bangladesh is affected by deteriorating economy. After getting independence from
West Pakistan in 1971 Bangladesh had to confront complications in their economy caused by
environmental issues, industry and unemployment rate. Natural causes are one of the reasons
Bangladesh is facing instability. Bangladesh is one of the world s most weather prone nations. The

Summary Of The Film She ` S Beautiful When She s Angry
She s Beautiful When She s Angry, directed and produced by Mary Dore, is a film that documents the
struggles that women within the United States endure concerning the historical lack of women s
rights. Prior to the Women s Rights Movement in the 1960 s and 1970 s, a number of stereotypes
about women existed within society that limited both their personal and professional progression. She
s Beautiful When She s Angry a modern adaptation and documentary of this period of emotional strife
pays tribute to the women who courageously fought in order to ensure that gender discrimination
became an issue of America s past. As a documentary film that succeeds in taking its audience down

For example, at the height of the Women s Rights Movement, women were very rarely seen within the
sector of higher education; but today, however, women are more prevalent in higher education than at
any other point in recent memory. Not only has higher education become more of an integral norm for
women, but the increasing prominence of women within higher education is reflective of a
fundamental societal shift women are no longer being forced to stay within the confines of their home,
but are now able to focus on their education as well as their increasing job opportunities. Additionally,
women have also become more prominent within the political realm both in terms of running for
office and having the right to vote as well as the higher tiers of corporate America; which illustrates
that, as time goes on, they are becoming increasingly more powerful and are being afforded a myriad
of desirable positions and benefits that used to only be available for men. With the indisputable
progression of women in mind, it becomes challenging to comprehend how a film like She s Beautiful
When She s Angry can capitalize on its foundation of activism within the current societal climate.
Although there are still and may always be various opinions regarding women s rights, it is clear that,
since the Women s Rights Movement, women have been presented with countless opportunities that
they would not have been able to take advantage of approximately 50 years ago. As a result, a film
like She s Beautiful When She s Angry almost seems redundant, if not somewhat

The s Leadership Traits, Behavior And Styles Essay
Chrysler is among the biggest American automobile companies. However, before the current success
the company enjoys, it underwent enormous losses and was declared bankrupt during the 2008 2009
automotive industry crisis. With the appointment of Sergio Marchionne as its chairperson and CEO,
the company became successful again. Marchionne s unique leadership skills, type, and behavior that
are not always popular are credited with the success of the enterprise. The paper discusses Marchionne
s leadership traits, behavior and styles and how they have contributed to the firm s success.
Personality and Leadership Traits Sergio Marchionne is a visionary man full of drive, a trait necessary
for leaders (Kumar, 2009). Upon taking the reins at Chrysler Group on 10 June 2009, Marchionne had
a vision of Chrysler reclaiming its position among the top automobile manufacturing companies in the
world. To achieve this goal, Marchionne borrowed $7.6 billion from both the Canadian and United
States governments ( 2011 All star , 2011, para.7). By mid 2010, Chrysler had launched sixteen new
vehicles to be presented for the 2011 model period. He even managed to pay the loan to the two
governments six years in advance. Moreover, because of Marchionne s vision, as from mid 2010 to
the end of 2011, Chrysler Company had about nineteen straight months of year over year sales
increases ( 2011 All star , 2011, para.9). There was a rise in demand for the Company s Jeep motor

Vedas Essay
Vedas are considered to be the oldest sacred texts which have been passed from generations to
generations. They are deemed to be the only conveyors of Indian rituals and culture. Some
people consider them to be the way to the find the truth of life. India is place of diversity,
incorporating different religions that have their own set of beliefs. This fashion has been
pursued from the ancient times and hence we can anticipate from this that different Vedas will
have different writings in them.
As I stated, before that different Vedas have different writings or beliefs in them, one such
example of the same is from the study of the religious texts that tell us that from the ancient
time there were two main current philosophical thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the sun doesn t move actually (the earth does)
but it is perceived to be moving same in the case of ATMAN and mind, the mind moves ,not the
ATMAN. The mind is centered on many thoughts and its concentration keeps on shifting. It is
also mentioned in the Upanishad that the ATMAN is out of the reach of all the senses and is
faster from all of them . As it is written in the Upanishad:
It moves, and it moves not. It is far, and it is near. It is inside all this, and also outside all this.
ISAVAYOPANISHAD, SWAMI SHARVANANDA
It makes us through the realization that if we aren t able to recognize the self; we are living in
blind darkness. The foremost motto of life is to get acquainted with oneself, which will further
open the doors to wisdom and eternal peace. We should not live the life of ignorance especially
the life where we ignore ourselves, the life where we just mimic others not perceiving our own
needs. As we will scrutinize the Upanishads, we will get to know more about ATMAN. The
Isavasyopanishad also conveys the message of seeing the self in everything and everyone.
Henceforth it says to treat everyone with love and the way we expect others to treat us.

The Great Outdoors Research Paper
The great outdoors is a story of a very memorable camping trip. This story takes place at Curt Gowdy
State Park in Cheyenne, Wyoming. My grandma and grandpa invited me (I am 7) and my sister
(Marissa who is 13 at the time) to go camping with them because they just got a fifth wheel. We got
packed up and started the drive down. Let s just say that my grandpa isn t exactly the best driver. It
involved almost running into the mailbox, driving too close to the oncoming lane, taking too wide of a
turn, and going too fast on the highway. After the eventful drive, we got unpacked and made it just in
time for lunch. She found a great spot right along the lake. It was right by the bathrooms and secluded
so we set up camp. While our grandparents were getting everything together, my sister and I went
exploring. The first place we checked out was the bathrooms. I went into the men s and she went into
the women s. After about ten seconds, I come out yelling and my sister comes crashing out of the
bathroom and asks what is wrong. I just found a dead squirrel! I yelled.
She asked where it was and I eagerly led her to the stall with the squirrel in the toilet. After that we

The Role Of External Environment On Firms
The influence of external environment on firms activities and survival has been extensively
investigated over the last several years (Barkema, Bell, Pennings, 1996; Fagre Wells Jr, 1982; Holburn
Zelner, 2010; Kostova Roth, 2002). In corporate governance literature, external constituents, such as,
government, institutional investors, security analyst, etc. exert pressure on firms so that they act in the
interest of key stakeholders. While financial stakeholders have been given more attention by scholars,
non financial stakeholders have received relatively less attention. Although firms have been under
increasing media scrutiny in recent years, the role of media in influencing the legitimacy of
multinational firms in emerging economies has been understudied. This paper addresses how news
media affects MNE performance in the host country by influencing subsidiary managers ties with host
country business and political environments.
Scholars have been attempting to unearth the effects of media on the public for quite a few years.
Researchers have recognized that the effects of media are distinctive and indirect. The media has been
so influential in the recent year that it can influence people about what to think (Wanta, Golan, Lee,
2004). According to McCombs and Shaw (1972), the most important influence of media is the agenda
setting perspective about issues that are deemed most important. Therefore, media campaigns that are
properly designed can change the

The Priceless Treasure By Peggy Bacon
In the illustration The Priceless Find (Antique Shop) , the artist Peggy Bacon is satirizing the idea of
an antique by both emphasizing the idea of beauty and rarity which is considered directly with an
antique as well as point out the literal definition of an antique . The artwork, created in 1943, was
made in a time where America was preoccupied World War II. This historical detail allows the viewer
furthermore to understating the reason why Bacon chose to point out the absurdity of antiques. Before
we can look at Bacon s message, I must first state why the artwork is a humorous account of a real life
event. This illustration was created two years after Peggy Bacon divorced her husband Alexander
Brooks (Meng, 18). Though it could be plausible that the antique shop could symbolize of her broken
marriage, argued with crackled paint, shattered mirror, and dark atmosphere, but Bacon is a realist
(Tarbell, 32). Peggy Bacon was documented in an interview to never create scenes and caricatures but
simply draw from her surroundings. Therefore making up a scene to symbolize an event in her life is
not valid. As to why the artwork is a satirical representation of the real scene, I derived this from both
Bacons love of satire created during her studies at the Arts Student League and from an excerpt taken
from an interview with Bacon. In this interview, Bacon stated the main purpose of a caricature is to
heighten the absurdity of its quality (Meng, 18). Though plausible this could

Examples Of Secrecy In Frankenstein
The well being of a family is often the result of absolute trust and absence of secrecy, in Frankenstein
by Mary Shelley, the reader can observe how secrecy between family members can lead to
catastrophic events where there is no way back. Victor Frankenstein keeps the monster, his creation, a
secret, making himself guilty of every occurrence involving him and driving himself to a very
complicated situation. When the Frankenstein family is betrayed by Victor it generates a feeling of
agony in Victor which will drive him to do everything he can to reconcile with himself and his family.

in agony, the recent events have put him in a situation where he has no feelings of hope for a positive

because he feels guilty for his family misfortune. When Justine died Victor fell into a state of remorse

The point of this research is focused on the Korean Methodist ministry, which is the reason why the

Adler s Ethos In How To Mark A Book
When I read a book or a paper, I read it and sometimes make a few mental notes. What do you do? Do
you mark and write things down? In Mortimer J. Adler s paper, How to Mark a Book, he argues the
best way to get the most out of reading is to mark the book or paper, leaving ones thoughts on the
pages. Some say this slows them down, or leaves behind a messy, ruined book, but Adler claims
reading slower and writing thoughts down allows the reader and author to have a conversation that
will enhance the readers understanding of the text. Through his paper, Adler attempts to use the
rhetorical triangle of ethos, pathos, and logos to connect the audience to his paper and to convince
them the best way to understand a text is through marking it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ethos Out of the three, ethos, pathos, and logos, Mortimer J. Adler uses ethos, or the ethical character
and credibility of the speaker, most effectively, in order to convince his audience that he has a right to

introduction about Adler which states things such as, He founded and fathered the Great Books
Program, edited the Encyclopedia Britannica, and wrote dozens of books on educational, intellectual,
and philosophical topics (Adler, n.d./2012, p.1). He also earned his PhD from Columbia University
after dropping out of high school, demonstrating his dedication to learning. This sets the stage for the
reader to feel that the author is a credible source for writing on this subject. As the article continues,
Adler retains his credibility by mentioning other point of views. He says, You may say that this
business of marking books is going to slow up your reading (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). Although he does
mention these other points of view, he refutes them quickly. For example, the next two sentences say,
It probably will. That s one of the reasons for doing it (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). He refutes the other
viewpoints in order to help the reader feel more confident that his way is the best way. He does so in a

The Issue Of Undocumented Immigrants
As the issue of undocumented immigrants once again dominates the news headlines, our politicians
are faced with the difficult task of enforcing the laws of our land, yet humanely and ethically tending
to those who illegally reside within America s borders. As the political parties face off with differing
ideologies, the undocumented, who are seen as victims from one side and criminals from the other, are
caught in this citizenship purgatory until a political compromise can be achieved. Until such a
compromise occurs, the nation is left dealing with the fallout of this population s existence. Not
belonging, they are left to fend for themselves while living in the shadows. Surviving through
government assistance or using a stolen identity as a means to gain employment, the undocumented
struggle to survive in a nation that is aware of their existence yet chooses to do nothing about it. To
address the illegal immigration epidemic in the United States, its leaders must hold all lawbreakers
accountable while compassionately and ethically addressing the issue through a balanced approach of
amnesty and deportation. The United States of America as a republic is defined to have a government
of laws, and not of men as stated by John Adams during its founding (5). Therefore no man or group
of men can exist above the law without disturbing civil cohesion and a breakdown in how our society
functions. It is the fundamental responsibility of the government to maintain and enforce

Walt Disney Captain Of Industry Essay
Mickey Mouse may be an iconic figure. However, history has shown that Walt Disney may have
actually been a rat. Building his empire of The Wonderful World of Disney does not qualify him to be

Ancient Egyptian Civilization
The ancient Egyptian civilization is arguably the oldest civilization in the world. It is believed to have
emerged around 5,500 years ago, although some scholars have estimated an even earlier date. During
the predynastic period the Egyptians were not united, but as the Sahara desert expanded many people
began moving their settlements around the Nile River. These settlements started coming together to
form towns. As these towns progressed they developed many new ideas to help the society run
smoother. However the total unification and start of the ancient Egyptian civilization did not happen,
until Hierakonpolis expanded and conquered Naqada. The ancient Egyptian civilization was now
created. Since this civilization was one of the first in the world, there was no structure to start with. In
order to function as a thriving civilization, the Egyptians had to accomplish agricultural, architectural,
medical, and educational advancements. The ancient Egyptian s advancements in agriculture is one of
the driving forces that lead to the success of their empire. The Egyptian civilization came together
because of the need for fertile soil and a constant supply of water. Although the Nile was a constant
supply of water, the Egyptians still needed to find a way to bring the water to their crops. Murray
shows the reason why irrigation was needed, In Egypt, 6000 years ago, when the latest rainy interlude
began to wane, neolithic tribesmen from both sides flocked into the Nile Valley

Teacher Observation Paper
In the past couple of days I have went to 3 different school to observe and interview teachers about
their assessment tools. I interviewed both preschool and kindergarten teachers. The schools I had
visited were Crocus Academy, Gutermuth Elementary, and Auburndale Elementary.
The first school that I went to was Crocus Academy. At Crocus Academy I interviewed Ms. Amber.
Ms. Amber went to Elizabethtown Community Technical College as well. Amber teaches a preschool
class at Crocus. She walks around the room while the children do their activities. When needed she
will stop and help the kids or correct them on their work. Amber is always interacting with the kids to
keep their focus throughout the day. Crocus Academy has their own curriculum that they go by. It is

Atoms And Covalent Bonds
Covalent bonding starts when atoms are sharing pairs of electrons. Atoms will covalently bond with
other atoms to get more stability, which they get by forming a full electron shell. By sharing their
outer most valence electrons, atoms fill up their outer electron shell and get stability. Nonmetals will
form covalent bonds with other nonmetals in order to gain stability. They also can form anywhere
between one to three covalent bonds with other nonmetals depending on how many valence electrons
they have. Covalent bonds are the strongest type of chemical bond. When two or more atoms have
similar electronegativity, conditions are suitable for covalent bonding. Covalent bonds are the
strongest type of chemical bond. Electronegativity increases toward the right of the periodic table and
decreases down the table. Electronegativity is not an atomic property, but is there when atoms interact
with each other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metals and metallic atoms have loose electrons that can be taken away easily. In a molten metal, the
metallic bond is still there, but the ordered structure has been broken. The metallic bond isn t all the
broken until the metal boils. The boiling point is actually a better guide to the strength of the metallic
bond than melting point is. When melting, the bond is loose, not broken.
Ionic bonding is a type of chemical bond formed between two ions with opposite charges. Ionic bonds
are formed between a metal and a non metal. Non metals are stronger than metal and can get electrons
easily from the metal. These ions attract each other and create an ionic bond. Ionic bonds are also
known as electrovalent bonds. Ionic bonds form their bond when opposite charged ions in a chemical
compound have an electrostatic attraction. Even thought Ionic bonds still hold molecules together,
they are weaker than covalent

Relationship Between Cancer And Alzheimer s Disease
Results from the Framingham Heart Study published by Driver et al, 2012(27) discussed the
relationship between cancer and Alzheimer s disease, using hazard ratios and 95% confidence
intervals. From this, it was concluded that cancer vulnerability may protect against Alzheimer s, and
vice versa. It was suggested that this may be due to both diseases sharing similar genes and proteins,
providing even more reason to research further into proteins such as the immunophilins, which have a
role in both diseases. Analysis of genes from large databases would further improve knowledge on the
immunophilins.

Distance Education Essay
Distance Education
Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance
separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies time
and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat, 1998, p.1).
The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer need to bridge
physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as possible to those who
are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them (Tam, 1998, p.3).
Education needs to reach those who are disadvantaged by location, finance, time, and resources (Tam,
1998, p.3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility is one advantage Web based learning has over the traditional classroom...and you can go as
fast or slow as you need to learn the course materials (Clarker, 1999, p.2). Technology is opening up
many new options for students. Students who wish to continue their education are no longer limited to
a traditional classroom setting (Sonner, 1999, p.1). According to Arlene Krebs of New Orbit
Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance learning is a
combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). However, creators of distance learning tend
to worry about how it looks more than being sensitive to what the learner really needs (Hancock,
1999, p.2).
What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional
technologist come into play)?
Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to foster
learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively rich
learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998, p.4).
Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are
facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). Learner centric theories focus on the
importance of the learner over the instructor to the instructional activity (Leonard, 1999, p.3). The new
paradigm [for distance learning] is a more

Individual Project: Manager Interviews
Executive Summary/Introduction
As a process, management is a series of connected functions. Management does not take place in any
particular order; it is a continuous process in which managers adjust what they are doing if a situation
requires them to do so. The management process consists of the four functions, planning, organizing,
and controlling, performed in order to achieve business objectives. The management function of

Problem With The Problem Of Evil
The Problem with the Problem of Evil
I am arguing that the Logical Problem of Evil (LPE) is not a successful argument to reject the
existence of God. This is due to the LPE arguing with an inaccurate definition for the word good .
With the correct definition of good, I will show that an all good and all powerful God can logically
exist simultaneously with evil. A response for my objection could be the Furthermore, if we allow the
inadequate use of the word evil , the LPE still does not constitute the immediate rejection of the
existence of God due to the concept of free will. A response to this objection is that individual humans
are not free and are therefore not morally responsible for their actions. However, I will show that this
response fails to disprove the existence of God.
Logical Problem of Evil In the article Evil and Omnipotence , J. L. Mackie argues his version of the
LPE. He defines evil to be concepts that good can abolish or get rid of. For the sake of this paper I
define Mackie s concept of evil as pain and suffering. In Evil and Omnipotence Good is defined to be
the taking away of pain and suffering. This definition of good and evil allows this argument to become
valid :
1. God is all powerful and all good
2. Evil exists _
3. God Doesn t exist
The above argument is valid due to the logic that an all powerful and all good God would be able to
and should eliminate all the evil in the world. However, since pain and suffering (evil)

Finding A Correlation Between A Solution s Salt...
Abstract
The purpose of this experiment is to find a correlation between a solution s salt concentration and its
density. The objectives are: First review use of electronic balance. Next learn to calibrate the
glassware. Than learn to use a volumetric flask. After that learn how to determine density. Finally
learn how to calculate percent error. It is known that density equals mass divided by volume which is a
simple formula that gives half of the desired information. The equipment that was used for this
experiment was the Graduated cylinder and the Volumetric flask.
Introduction
The scenario is that you are a chemical engineer for the Podwitz Pharmaceutical Company.
Management of the company has determined there a is a market for off brand contract care solutions,
and has chosen you to an important task in quality control. As you must develop a procedure that can
be used to as a final check of the same saline strength of the product, and the USP regulations require
saline strength to be no more than 5%.
The purpose of this experiment is to measure mass and volume, the main focus of this procedure is to
determine whether there is any correlation between density and concentration of salt in a solution of
water and salt in which the amount of salt is unknown. The purpose is to determine the best procedure
for measuring density. Will the graduated cylinder yield more accurate readings or will it be the
volumetric flask? In this experiment it was decided to proceed by taking

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Going To The Movie Theatre
The lights begin to dim until you can barely see what is around you. The smell of butter is in the air as
you recline your seat back till you are nearly vertical with the floor. Then a bright light shines in front
of you, so massive it is impossible to miss. It is finally starting. The movie is finally starting. There is
a significant reason why people occasionally go to the movie theatre to watch a movie rather than just
watch the movie at home. Going to the theatre means tons of popcorn, extra comfy seats, a dark and
loud room, and a giant screen. Going to the movies is a whole experience in itself. Have you ever had
a bad experience at the movie theatre though? One where your shoes begin to squeak because you step
in someone s spilt slushy or as you sit in your chair you hear the crunch of the previous person s left
over popcorn underneath you. Not only does this situation make you frustrated and irritated, it also
distracts you from the movie you went to the theatre to see. If you have a bad time at the movie
theatre, you may not even remember the movie you went to see because you are distracted by all the
things around you. In this case, going to the movie theatre actually takes away from the movie itself.
Going to the movie theatre should let you become totally engrossed in the movie and even enhance the
movie itself. When one goes to a movie theatre it needs to be clean. The floors should be clean and dry
not wet and sticky. The seats should be spotless with no sign

A Point Of Return In Nietzsche s Groundhog Day
1. Tanksley reports about her young life up to this point that if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn t
change a thing. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and
showing how it works?
1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got
stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here,
however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday,
whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived
from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then
is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main
character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning.

eternal return?
1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be
content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In Nietzsche´s law of the
eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words,
living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Tanksley states that she would be perfectly happy to

gesture of Yvonne crying makes us to believe of what she was feeling. In this shot there were no
objects or any other visual information in the background away from the face. In addition, frontal
lighting eliminates most of the surface shading which it gives Yvonne a soft glamour. I would think
the director used a fill lighting technique in shot eighteen. In this shot the sound can be interpreter in
many different ways. First, mixing sound which each song takes place within different pattern which it

Origins And Influence Of Automobiles
Origins and Influence of Automobiles in the Early 1900s
Sean Francis
AP United States History Mr. Ehrie June 5, 2015
Throughout history, engineers and scientists have achieved breakthroughs that allow the invention of
the world s most influential products to come into existence. Johannes Gutenberg s printing press of
the fifteenth century allowed for books to be printed, copied, and spread as seen never before. The
introduction of the Bessemer process by Andrew Carnegie in steel manufacturing brought about the
construction of modern cities. Thomas Edison s electric light of the 1800s lit up a world previously
reliant on the light of daylight and candles. Innovations such as these are remembered for the same
reason, which is that society and the way in which we live in it is still affected to this day by them.
Following the victory by Americans of securing independence and sovereignty for Great Britain, the
nation became a political, economic, and military, and scientific powerhouse within a very short time.
By the late nineteenth century, a new marvel had appeared across the Atlantic in Europe: the
automobile. Though transportation such as trains or steamboats had been widely available since the
early 1800s, the automobile would allow people to trade in their horse drawn carriages. In the late
1800s to early 1900s when the invention of the car made it across the Atlantic, a monumental change

These safety concerns eventually led to the termination of the HIP program and the implementation of
a stage three program the Home Insulation Safety Program (HISP) which was to remediate the poor
installation practices, which was an unfortunate feature of the HIP program (Australian National Audit
Office, 2010, p.20). There has been conflict on whether businesses or the Government were at fault.
The purpose of the program was to stimulate the economy through regulation (De Percy, 2014). The
Government at the time felt the need to intervene in the market economy in order to mitigate the effect
of the GFC (ABC, 2014). Using Incentive based Regulation (De Percy, 2014) the Government wanted
to encourage more activity in this industry sector to bring money quickly into the economy through
businesses that were involved. The HIP program would have supported jobs and small businesses by
increasing economic stimulus and cut household bills through increased energy efficiency form the
insulation (Hawke, 2010). The HIP program was implemented to decrease negative externalities
through lower pollution and carbon emissions (Kortt Dollery, 2012, p.73) as a result of more
households being insulated. James Fricker; a technical consultant from the Department on home

The Fight for Gay Rights Essay
The Fight for Gay Rights Restrictions have been put in place on homosexuals basic human rights
because of individuals opinions and lack of tolerance. America is a country where all people should
have the same rights, regardless of sexual preference. Gay marriage is illegal in more than thirty states
even yet today (ProQuest). Homosexual people have been struggling with their rights for over a
hundred years now, but the issue still hasn t been resolved. Gay marriage and rights didn t become a
main focus for attention until the late 90 s and early 2000 s. In fact throughout the twentieth century it
was illegal for two people originating from the same sexual orientation to speak or proceed with
sexual acts together (Eskridge). Gay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Up until 2011 the United States Military basically ignored the Declaration, because prejudice dictated
the unalienable rights are fathers founded our country on.
Gay marriage is one right that homosexuals are struggling to maintain. Gay marriage is only legal in a
portion of the states in America today. The main argument against gay people being allowed to legally
marry is religion. Marriage is a religious act and is referred to in the Bible. The Bible also states that
...you shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination, (Leviticus 18:22). Therefore
people that strongly follow the Bible often say that marriage is between a man and a woman because
that is the way that God intended it; however, that also raises the fact that we live in the United States
of America, and in this country people have the right to follow any religion they want, if any at all.
The Bill of Rights declares Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof... (The Bill of Rights). Legally people have the right to follow any
religion they please, so why should the United States laws be controlled by the restrictions and ideals
of one specific religion. Not everyone follows the religion of Christianity and because we live in
America they don t have to. In some religions, it is socially

Should Brahm Be Considered A Conservative Or Conservative...
A controversial topic in music history is the question: Should Brahms be considered a conservative or
progressive composer? It is a difficult question to answer, with many different things to take into
account. In this essay I will try and explore various points of view on this topic, with reference to
musical examples, and then come to a conclusion with which argument I personally believe to be the
truest of them all. Brahms was a composer at a time of great change in the world of music. He was at
the tipping point at which the classical era was coming to an end and the romantic era was just
beginning. The composers typically considered progressives were the advocates of the Romantic
Movement; the composers who were considered conservative wanted to ... Show more content on

Brahms wanted to progress music further, but with it s foundations set strongly in the work of the
classical and baroque period composers. He wanted to, and he did, expand, develop, and reinvigorate
the classical style of music. Wagner, Liszt, and other composers were the beginning of a new period in
music. They revolutionised music and the progress they made has had an everlasting effect. Just
because Brahms was not part of this movement does not mean he did not contribute to the progress of
music. He developed Symphonies to a stage they had very rarely seen before. His work influenced the
development of future symphonies, and that is progress. Brahms managed to be a progressive
composer in a conservative form of music. So to say Brahms was both a conservative and progressive
composer is a valid opinion.
Throughout this essay I have explored the various different ways in which you can view Brahms: a
misunderstood progressive, a stubborn conservative, or perhaps a progressive in a style unappreciated

Irish Monasticism And Celtic Christianity
Your Holiness, It has come to my attention that you will be returning to the United States and will be
giving a sermon in Boulder Colorado on 5th through 6th century Irish monasticism and Celtic
Christianity. I would like to assist you in this task by relaying the information I have come to
understand through my studies on the topic. Medieval Irish monasticism and Celtic Christianity is
important and of interest for a number of reasons. More specifically, the monastic influence on present
day private penance, their ability to easily adapt and re imagine and reinvent the Celtic culture and pre
existing Druidic religion into an organized network of Christian institutions, and the obedience and
spiritual strength possessed by Irish monks and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without their practice of private penance and the creation of penitential s we would not have the
confessions and sacramental practices that we do today. We also would not have such a rich
spirituality and communal strength that we do if St. Patrick and other medieval Irish monks and nuns
had not been able to transform and reimage the Druidic religion. It is for this amalgamation of
practices that we Western Christians have the current understanding of the importance of spirituality,
prayer and divinity. If St. Patrick had not been able to convince the tribal leaders of the power of God
as well as establishing structured and organized monastic communities then perhaps the Celts would
have never been converted. Irish monastic practices and obedience have been fundamental and
influential in the present structures that

Middleman Ebay Case
1. I do not intend on changing any of my current website goals, so I will just re list them here. Firstly,
the main goal I would like my website to achieve for my business would be most importantly to
increase the overall percentage of sales that are made from outside of Ebay. Secondly, I would like my
website to serve as a platform to potentially advertise other small businesses such as myself to
increase their traffic. Lastly, the website could be used as an alternative method of buying my
products, essentially cutting out the middleman Ebay, and just having the products listed on the
website would be potentially more profitable.

Societal Issues Affecting African Americans
Set in the 1960 s, The Help, emphasizes the societal issues affecting African Americans in the past and
shows eerily similar parallels to our society today. The 1960 s consisted of a multitude of protests and
movements preaching civil disobedience and resistance. This attitude and behavior, led to the rise of
the Civil Rights Movement which is also a major aspect of the film. The Help, delivers a message that
stresses the dangers and paranoia that may be associated with a changing society that is focused on
retaining it s original values regardless of what may be occurring around them. Eventually change
does take charge and while acceptance is not immediate, slowly but steadily toleration does begin to
take root. Released in 2011, the film reflects the alterations in society but also displays the changes
that have yet to occur. The Help, showed the move forward and reluctant path to acceptance and
lenience. Many White individuals aided African Americans in their fight to gaining full civil rights
while others did not bother to hide their disapproval and continued to believe that African Americans
were inferior therefore did not deserve civil liberties. While as a society, we have come far, there
continue to be many aspects that have yet to change and African Americans continue to face
discrimination and inequality today. The film reveals the difficulties of bringing about change and
altering the mindsets of deepset individuals. The film is based upon the original novel,

Water in New Jersey Essays
Water in New Jersey
Residential, commercial and industrial development is the largest contributors to landscape change in
the state of New Jersey. When buildout occurs in one region, development pressure begins in another,
virtually insuring the Megalopolis concept of one huge urban corridor stretching between Boston and
Washington D.C. Year after year, farmland dwindles, roads become congested, and more residents are
left to compete for diminishing natural resources. Desperate measures and newer technologies are
incorporated to replace poor planning and lack of vision on behalf of decision makers caught between
competing interests. When the long term health and wellbeing of the established population and the
short term gain of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the competition for a vital resource is between residents and crops, human health and wellbeing
takes precedence as a matter of policy. When this competition is between one group of residents and
another group of residents, the only solution is to spread the resource even thinner often leading to
inequities among citizens of differing financial or political influence. Decision makers should have a
zero tolerance agenda concerning any threat to our groundwater resources. This paper proposes that
future growth needs to take into account our dependence on surface and subsurface water resources
when planning developments and incorporating water resource studies into legislation meant to guide
further development in New Jersey. The impact on citizens affected by new construction may not be
felt until a crisis occurs and then it will be too late. With the remaining southwestern agricultural
counties ripe for development it s never too late to change our vision of the landscape and refuse to
gamble with the future needs of our citizens.
Groundwater Supplies and Their Description in the Southwestern Agricultural Counties
The counties of Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem are situated in the southwest corner of New Jersey
and are historically known as fruit and vegetable producing areas with abundant groundwater
resources available for irrigation purposes. These counties fall within the

The Issue Of Gun Control
In America there is a growing issue some say. The issue being gun control and how guns affect and/or
end lives, the even bigger issue though is the issue of how people can or can not write about gun
control to educate the public. Gun Control is an issue that needs to be avoided when trying to persuade
readers of an opinion for two reasons, the issue of gun control is a terrible essay topic because there
are too many emotions involved in gun control debates and because in general there is no good
research on gun control. The only essays and articles available for research are articles filled with
biased through the use of Aristotelian Appeals. Aristotelian Appeals include ethos, logos, and pathos

Berman s college coming to the deduction that sadly new gun laws are not in discussion. In other
articles and essays ethos is used by writers to achieve the same goal as in How Americans Actually
Feel About Strong Gun Laws . Other authors such as Elisa Julliano use ethos to go against gun
control. Using the same strategy the author turns the reader to getting rid of guns in America by
showing credibility in several ways. First we see ethos expressed to stop gun control in Pros/Cons:
Gun Legislation through the sentence, We, along with our fellow plaintiffs, were hopeful for a more
favorable decision from the 2nd Circuit, but we are not surprised that this decision was handed down
from this level, said Scott Wilson, president of the Connecticut Citizens Defense League. As Julliano
includes the work of others she shows the name of the person or group responsible for the information
creating an in text citation. Using in text citations helps the writer show knowledge of the issue at
hand giving the author credibility and raising the odds of readers sharing the opinions learned from
Pro/Con: Gun Legislation and articles like it that are against having guns in America. Again in Guns
Safety Middle Ground by Devin Hughes we see the author will use the work of others to credit his
own. Wintemute of the University of California at Davis, concluded: The type of firearm policy most
consistently associated with curtailing the diversion of guns to criminals and for

For example, at the height of the Women s Rights Movement, women were very rarely seen within the sector of higher education; but today, however, women are more prevalent in higher education than at any other point in recent memory. Not only has higher education become more of an integral norm for women, but the increasing prominence of women within higher education is reflective of a fundamental societal shift women are no longer being forced to stay within the confines of their home, but are now able to focus on their education as well as their increasing job opportunities. Additionally, women have also become more prominent within the political realm both in terms of running for office and having the right to vote as well as the higher tiers of corporate America; which illustrates that, as time goes on, they are becoming increasingly more powerful and are being afforded a myriad of desirable positions and benefits that used to only be available for men. With the indisputable progression of women in mind, it becomes challenging to comprehend how a film like She s Beautiful When She s Angry can capitalize on its foundation of activism within the current societal climate. Although there are still and may always be various opinions regarding women s rights, it is clear that, since the Women s Rights Movement, women have been presented with countless opportunities that they would not have been able to take advantage of approximately 50 years ago. Some say this slows them down, or leaves behind a messy, ruined book, but Adler claims reading slower and writing thoughts down allows the reader and author to have a conversation that will enhance the readers understanding of the text. Ionic bonding is a type of chemical bond formed between two ions with opposite charges. Ionic bonds are formed between a metal and a non metal. Non metals are stronger than metal and can get electrons easily from the metal. These ions attract each other and create an ionic bond. Ionic bonds are also known as electrovalent bonds. Ionic bonds form their bond when opposite charged ions in a chemical compound have an electrostatic attraction. Even thought Ionic bonds still hold molecules together, they are weaker than covalent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relationship Between Cancer And Alzheimer s Disease Results from the Framingham Heart Study published by Driver et al, 2012(27) discussed the relationship between cancer and Alzheimer s disease, using hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals. From this, it was concluded that cancer vulnerability may protect against Alzheimer s, and vice versa. It was suggested that this may be due to both diseases sharing similar genes and proteins, providing even more reason to research further into proteins such as the immunophilins, which have a role in both diseases. Analysis of genes from large databases would further improve knowledge on the immunophilins. 4.Is there a Role for Targeting Immunophilins in Neurodegeneration? 4.1 Angioneurins In recent years, it has become clear that the neural and ... • 25. Distance Education Essay Distance Education Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies time and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat, 1998, p.1). The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer need to bridge physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as possible to those who are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them (Tam, 1998, p.3). Education needs to reach those who are disadvantaged by location, finance, time, and resources (Tam, 1998, p.3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flexibility is one advantage Web based learning has over the traditional classroom...and you can go as fast or slow as you need to learn the course materials (Clarker, 1999, p.2). Technology is opening up many new options for students. Students who wish to continue their education are no longer limited to a traditional classroom setting (Sonner, 1999, p.1). According to Arlene Krebs of New Orbit Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance learning is a combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). However, creators of distance learning tend to worry about how it looks more than being sensitive to what the learner really needs (Hancock, 1999, p.2). What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional technologist come into play)? Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to foster learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively rich learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998, p.4). Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). Learner centric theories focus on the importance of the learner over the instructor to the instructional activity (Leonard, 1999, p.3). The new paradigm [for distance learning] is a more ... A response for my objection could be the Furthermore, if we allow the inadequate use of the word evil , the LPE still does not constitute the immediate rejection of the existence of God due to the concept of free will. A response to this objection is that individual humans are not free and are therefore not morally responsible for their actions. However, I will show that this response fails to disprove the existence of God. Logical Problem of Evil In the article Evil and Omnipotence , J. L. Mackie argues his version of the LPE. He defines evil to be concepts that good can abolish or get rid of. For the sake of this paper I define Mackie s concept of evil as pain and suffering. In Evil and Omnipotence Good is defined to be the taking away of pain and suffering. This definition of good and evil allows this argument to become valid : 1. God is all powerful and all good 2. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and showing how it works? 1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here, however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday, whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning. (Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s eternal return? 1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. Medieval Irish monasticism and Celtic Christianity is important and of interest for a number of reasons. More specifically, the monastic influence on present day private penance, their ability to easily adapt and re imagine and reinvent the Celtic culture and pre existing Druidic religion into an organized network of Christian institutions, and the obedience and spiritual strength possessed by Irish monks and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without their practice of private penance and the creation of penitential s we would not have the confessions and sacramental practices that we do today. We also would not have such a rich spirituality and communal strength that we do if St. Patrick and other medieval Irish monks and nuns had not been able to transform and reimage the Druidic religion. It is for this amalgamation of practices that we Western Christians have the current understanding of the importance of spirituality, prayer and divinity. If St. Patrick had not been able to convince the tribal leaders of the power of God as well as establishing structured and organized monastic communities then perhaps the Celts would have never been converted. Irish monastic practices and obedience have been fundamental and influential in the present structures that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Middleman Ebay Case 1. I do not intend on changing any of my current website goals, so I will just re list them here. Firstly, the main goal I would like my website to achieve for my business would be most importantly to increase the overall percentage of sales that are made from outside of Ebay. Secondly, I would like my website to serve as a platform to potentially advertise other small businesses such as myself to increase their traffic. Lastly, the website could be used as an alternative method of buying my products, essentially cutting out the middleman Ebay, and just having the products listed on the website would be potentially more profitable. 2. My first objective to increase the overall percentage of sales, would be to try and enhance the already existant store atmosphere. If I just have a website that looks ... • 48. Societal Issues Affecting African Americans Set in the 1960 s, The Help, emphasizes the societal issues affecting African Americans in the past and shows eerily similar parallels to our society today. The 1960 s consisted of a multitude of protests and movements preaching civil disobedience and resistance. This attitude and behavior, led to the rise of the Civil Rights Movement which is also a major aspect of the film. The Help, delivers a message that stresses the dangers and paranoia that may be associated with a changing society that is focused on retaining it s original values regardless of what may be occurring around them. Eventually change does take charge and while acceptance is not immediate, slowly but steadily toleration does begin to take root. Released in 2011, the film reflects the alterations in society but also displays the changes that have yet to occur. The Help, showed the move forward and reluctant path to acceptance and lenience. Many White individuals aided African Americans in their fight to gaining full civil rights while others did not bother to hide their disapproval and continued to believe that African Americans were inferior therefore did not deserve civil liberties. While as a society, we have come far, there continue to be many aspects that have yet to change and African Americans continue to face discrimination and inequality today. The film reveals the difficulties of bringing about change and altering the mindsets of deepset individuals. The film is based upon the original novel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When buildout occurs in one region, development pressure begins in another, virtually insuring the Megalopolis concept of one huge urban corridor stretching between Boston and Washington D.C. Year after year, farmland dwindles, roads become congested, and more residents are left to compete for diminishing natural resources. Desperate measures and newer technologies are incorporated to replace poor planning and lack of vision on behalf of decision makers caught between competing interests. When the long term health and wellbeing of the established population and the short term gain of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the competition for a vital resource is between residents and crops, human health and wellbeing takes precedence as a matter of policy. When this competition is between one group of residents and another group of residents, the only solution is to spread the resource even thinner often leading to inequities among citizens of differing financial or political influence. Decision makers should have a zero tolerance agenda concerning any threat to our groundwater resources. This paper proposes that future growth needs to take into account our dependence on surface and subsurface water resources when planning developments and incorporating water resource studies into legislation meant to guide further development in New Jersey. The impact on citizens affected by new construction may not be felt until a crisis occurs and then it will be too late. With the remaining southwestern agricultural counties ripe for development it s never too late to change our vision of the landscape and refuse to gamble with the future needs of our citizens. Groundwater Supplies and Their Description in the Southwestern Agricultural Counties The counties of Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem are situated in the southwest corner of New Jersey and are historically known as fruit and vegetable producing areas with abundant groundwater resources available for irrigation purposes. • 50. The Issue Of Gun Control In America there is a growing issue some say. The issue being gun control and how guns affect and/or end lives, the even bigger issue though is the issue of how people can or can not write about gun control to educate the public. Gun Control is an issue that needs to be avoided when trying to persuade readers of an opinion for two reasons, the issue of gun control is a terrible essay topic because there are too many emotions involved in gun control debates and because in general there is no good research on gun control. The only essays and articles available for research are articles filled with biased through the use of Aristotelian Appeals. Berman s college coming to the deduction that sadly new gun laws are not in discussion. In other articles and essays ethos is used by writers to achieve the same goal as in How Americans Actually Feel About Strong Gun Laws . Other authors such as Elisa Julliano use ethos to go against gun control. Using the same strategy the author turns the reader to getting rid of guns in America by showing credibility in several ways. First we see ethos expressed to stop gun control in Pros/Cons: Gun Legislation through the sentence, We, along with our fellow plaintiffs, were hopeful for a more favorable decision from the 2nd Circuit, but we are not surprised that this decision was handed down from this level, said Scott Wilson, president of the Connecticut Citizens Defense League. Using in text citations helps the writer show knowledge of the issue at hand giving the author credibility and raising the odds of readers sharing the opinions learned from Pro/Con: Gun Legislation and articles like it that are against having guns in America.
