Definition Of Dance
Society has been greatly influenced by song and movement. There is no documented time when dance
was first discovered, since it has been around for more than any person remember. There are millions
of types and definitions of dance in the world, and it can be performed or interpreted in many different
ways. The dictionary most commonly defines dance as moving rhythmically to music, typically
following a sequence of steps. But dance is so much more than justs the simple movement, it is an
escape from reality, the opportunity to meet great new people, and a message to be read.
Dance is an escape from reality. For instance, if I just had one of those frustrating days, and nothing

Primary Causes Of Constipation
Review of Literature
Constipation is a common, yet complex symptom that may be idiopathic or manifest secondary to an
underlying disorder. While it is generally not life threatening on its own, constipation has a significant
adverse impact on the comfort and quality of life clinically affecting about 10 19% of the American
population at any one time (Smeltzer, Bare, Hinkle Cheever, 2013, p.1286). A symptom rather than a
disease, causation is defined as either primary or secondary. Primary causes relate to the dysfunction
of colonic motility, defecation, or both. Secondary causes of constipation are related to medications,
lifestyle, neuropathological problems, endocrine disturbances, metabolic or may be related to
neuropathological issues (Andrews Storr, 2011, p.16B; Marples, 2011, p.41). There are two criteria
that are used in the canon of literature related to chronic constipation. The American College of
Gastroenterology defines constipation as a symptom based disorder characterized by unsatisfactory
defecation due to infrequent stools, difficult stool passage, or both (Gallegos Orozco, Foxx Orenstein,
Sterler Stoa, 2012, p.18). Used for symptoms that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Active transport channels in the intestines absorb sodium from the stagnant fecal slurry, which causes
water and electrolytes the follow perpetually dehydrating the fecal bolus. Meaning that the longer the
stool remains in the colon, the more dehydrated the lumal content becomes particularly in dehydration
states. This is often the cause for pebble like stools called scybalation that common present in
constipation, and may contribute to impaction if the stool continues to collect and grow in size

Metropolis Mise En Scene
Metropolis is a German silent film directed by Fritz Lang that was released in 1927. It has received a
99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes...and it is a film that I absolutely cannot stand. Despite having grown
up in the digital age, my disdain for this film is not contributed to the fact that the film is silent
(although this may be an underlying factor that contributes to other reasons that I do not like this
movie). Rather I think my dislike for this film is rooted in genre. Metropolis is a science fiction film,
and science fiction is not a genre that I particularly fancy. But there are elements of mise en scene that
also make me not like this film.
The film is set in the future, and yet the costumes of the actors do not reflect this whatsoever. The
actors are still in the attire that represents the time that the movie was made in 1927. But because
Metropolis was one of the first movies made within the science fiction genre, it may not have been a
custom to try and make clothing match the futuristic setting and scenery of the film. Another reason I
do not like the film in terms of aesthetics is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this may have been done because the actors have to compensate for the fact that there is no
sound in the film. But as we discussed in class, acting styles have changed over time and this may be
why I dislike the acting in this film. But because I find the score in the film good at expressing the
emotions of characters and setting the tone of the movie, I do not think that the way the actors act is
necessary. While I do believe that the score did a good job at reflecting the emotions of actors and the
overall tone of the film, in general I find the score to be repetitive. There are a couple of songs that are
repeated throughout the film, which may be viewed as a musical motif but to me the use of the same
songs over and over again becomes

Descriptive Essay On My Thursday Morning
The clock glares off the white tile floor, my blushed face matches the bright lettering on the clock.
Collected dust and dirt from the students shoes has now ended up all along of the back of my pants.
What a great way to start off my thursday morning. Beep, beep, beep, sounded my alarm, 7:05 glared
across the screen of my fluorescent alarm clock into my squinted eyes in the barely lit room. My legs
quickly jolted out of my bed, I was late again, I was supposed to be in the car by 7:25, of course since
I was already running very late, it was also the type of morning when I had nothing prepared. I had no
idea what to wear, and hadn t packed my lunch or backpack, but at this point i had only been awake
for around 5 minutes, so I wasn t thinking very clearly. I grabbed all of my stuff and made it out the
door only 5 minutes late. Since I left a little bit late, I had to sit in traffic on Woodruff Road, but
luckily I made it to first period on time, I was in geometry, when the teacher asked us to get out our
homework, I dug in my backpack and couldn t find my notebook anywhere, meaning that I had left it
at home. So I had already woken up late, and now also forgotten my math homework, I figured that
my thursday couldn t get much worse, I was wrong.
It was newly spring, meaning it was time to start wearing sandals. I was wearing my brand new Sam
Edelman shoes. They were taupe and laced up, with a very thin bottom with clearly no friction, this
was my first mistake. I had

Summary Of Patterns By Amy Lowell Patterns
Amy Lowell was a leader of the Imagists movement. She was influenced by John Keats and gathered
a selection of his works. Lowell began to write after her brothers published books of their own, but
she focused on poetry. The detail in Lowell s poetry related to describing and environment or a person
could help the reader better understand what is happening in the poem and include the reader as if they
were actually there experiencing what the narrator or speaker is experiencing. Her choices develop a
bigger picture than what the poem is actually saying. Amy Lowell helped to change the thought
process when reading poetry. Amy Lowell s Patterns is a very good example of imagery being used to
draw the reader s attention. This poem is filled with so many bright and vivid colors and different
moods that it attracts the reader. Each stanza shows a different scene or a different moment in the
same area and exuding different emotions to share that moment and feeling. The first two stanzas and
the last three stanzas are in the present, while the third and fourth stanzas are flashbacks or memories
she is having as she remembers her lost lover. The title Patterns refers to the gown that the speaker is
wearing, the different flowers in the garden, the paths that are in the garden, and the war that the
speaker mentions towards the end of the poem. In the first stanza, the speaker is walking through the
garden and she notices the wind blowing on the flowers causing them to move or sway. She continues
walking through the garden in her stiff but beautifully embroidered gown. She has white hair and a fan
embellished with jewels. She states that she has a unique design. The mood in this stanza seems calm
or content but a little uncomfortable. The second stanza she is still walking along the path in the
garden and her train is dragging on the ground behind her covering the path and the plants along the
sides. Her ensemble is currently in style and so are her shoes. She only shows confidence while
wearing her corset and gown. She slowly takes a seat under the lime tree, although the corset makes it
difficult and uncomfortable to sit, she sits anyway. She watches the flowers swing in the breeze
wanting to be able to do

Modernism In Langston Hughes s The Negro Speaks Of Rivers
Modernism was a philosophical movement that occurred in America and England during the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This era is distinguished by the break with traditions of literary
forms, styles, and concepts, giving creation to an assortment of cultural, art, and political movements.
Perhaps nobody took as full of an advantage of the concept of modernism as poets did, expanding the
possibilities of their works to unimaginable lengths. Poets such as Langston Hughes, William Carlos
Williams, Gertrude Stein, and many others employed literary devices to portray important messages
that they often buried in their works. From the use of these literary devices such as metaphors,
imagery, and symbolism these poets were able to portray concepts of race, class, and gender in the
Modernism era. Written at the age of seventeen, The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston Hughes
illustrates the historical journey of the African American race to America (Socarides). By using rivers
as a metaphor for the source of life, Hughes outlines the movement of African American race from the
Nile and Euphrates rivers in Africa to the Mississippi. Hughes subtly expresses his admonition of
slavery and racism in the line My soul has grown deep like the rivers (Line 4). The line first appears in
the poem when it follows the speaker s statement that he has known rivers ancient as the world and
older than the/ flow of human blood in human veins (Lines 2 3). The speaker here classifies himself

Laura
In The Glass Menagerie, Laura Winfield is like a fragile piece of glass, like many of her glass animals
in her collection. The whole play is based around a dysfunctional family and their challenges adapting
to life. Laura, with her physical and mental disabilities, isn t able to survive in the world, so she
isolates herself. She makes a whole world to herself inside the apartment filled with her symbolic
glass figurine collection. (Her unicorn, in particular.) There is one time, in particular, when she seems
to be improving. This is the scene where Jim O Connor visits and she is finally coming out of her shell
and likes being around him. The scene sticks out to the others because Laura never possessed the
capacity to much consider a conversation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jim made her feel comfortable and accepted her as she was. The man that she had always pined over
was becoming a reality. Unlike her mother and brother, she is finally living in the present. She opens
up to him and shares her most secluded thoughts about a glass unicorn and what it means to her. Jim is
silent as she talks about her collection. She discusses how this is her most loved piece since it is not at
all like the horse in the collection . Jim comments must feel sort of lonesome it being the only horse
with a horn. Laura comments Well, he doesn t complain about it. He stays on the shelf with some
horses that don t have horns and all of them seem to get along nicely together. This is the reason that
Laura cherishes this piece, she can relate that it is different to the other horses. Similarly as she is not
at all like every other young lady. This remark appears to be exceptionally weird originating from
Laura it is practically clever. Comical comments are not predictable with her character. It is now that
Laura rolls out a transitory improvement. Jim makes her feel so comfortable, he ask her to dance and
even gives her a kiss. His intentions were to give her the confidence she needs to function in the
outside world. This, unfortunately, all comes crashing down, because it is revealed that he is engaged.
After helping her to build her confidence, it only brings her false hopes and draws back to her fantasy
world of the glass menagerie. Her heart is broken like the horn of her unicorn. She gives it to Jim
because she understand that, liker her, will never be the same as he came into her

Gymnasts In Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a very difficult sport that takes a lot of commitment. Many children take on gymnastics
at a young age and strive to become Olympic gymnasts by competing their whole lives, but not a lot
of people are able to pursue that dream due to the challenges that come with being a gymnast. Coaches
are currently conditioning and training their gymnasts at very demanding and advanced levels.
Although the sport has several positive health benefits on the body, it also puts gymnasts at a very
high risk of injury. It is not very common for these injuries to be severe, however, if they are not
treated properly it is likely for them to lead to chronic pain and even bone fractures.
One of a gymnasts most common injuries is a stress fracture involving the lower back. The medical
term for this is Spondylosis. The back is a very crucial part of gymnastics, it is constantly working
hard and being used. Amongst gymnasts, the most common cause of a stress fracture is overuse.
However, they can also occur due to an awkward fall or a fall from a height. Almost everything in
gymnastics calls for a combination of great speed and power which puts any gymnast at high risk of
falling or landing wrong. Whether it s a fall or an awkward landing, the pressure is being applied to
the spine and joints, increasing the chances of injury. Back injuries in adolescent athletes stem from
repetitive stressful body movements, like bending and twisting that can cause trauma to the spinal
column. The

Parable Of The Sower Octavia Butler Essay
God is Power infinite, irresistible, inexorable, indifferent. And yet, God is Pliable trickster, teacher,
chaos, clay. God exists to be shaped. God is Change. (Butler 25). In Parable of the Sower Octavia
Butler introduces the concept of religion through her characters specifically Lauren. In a society that is
crumbling, religion is seemed to be the only thing striving. The idea that although society could be
falling apart many of the characters either cling to their beliefs, or shy away from them. Laurens
creation of Earthseed proves that in a failing society, the concept of religion somehow still survives. In
the very beginning of the book Lauren begins to question the idea of God. Since she grew up in a
religious setting (her father being a pastor) much of her religious knowledge comes from the church.
However, from a very early start Lauren has always begun to question the very principles that were
taught to her. In present society, the issues are just beginning. Lauren is in a secluded community,
unable to leave because of the unknown dangers outside the walls. It s no surprise she begins to
question the principles of God. In the book of Job, God says he made everything and he knows
everything so no one has any right to question what he does with any of it. Okay. That works. That
Old Testament God doesn t violate the way things are now. But that God sounds a lot like Zeus a super

Papa Goose Inventory System
Scope and Purpose
Purpose
We will be observing one of the restaurants located in Melbourne, named Papa Goose Restaurant Bar.
The main purpose of this project is to know about the inventory system of this restaurant. The purpose
is to look at the issues in the inventory, and to provide them with the best possible solution.
Target System Inventory Management
Papa Goose is both a restaurant and bar so it is necessary that the inventory of both the ingredients of
the restaurant and the liquor of the bar. They are currently using a manual setup for holding the
records of the inventory of both the restaurant and the bar. It is necessary that they use proper
inventory system and keep it computerized.
Perpetual Inventory System/Weekly Based
I would prescribe them to do a weekly control on their ingredients and the liquor. The weekly
inventory check would give the manager a weekly check of the requirements needed in the inventory.
This would help in identifying and solving the potential or upcoming problems of relating to the
inventory. Perpetual inventory system would be necessary in the case of Papa Goose Restaurant Bar,
the amount of the raw material such as meat and all the other important ingredients required could be
collected and then all that has been bought could be entered in the computer, in the spreadsheet the
correct quantity could be removed when it is used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Does Frost Use Symbols In Robert Frost
Frost first illustrates the use of symbolism through the bending of the birches in order to allude to a
freedom from reality. In this manner, he begins by imagining that the shapes and bends of the birch
trees were caused by a young boy climbing and swinging gleefully upon the trunks; as he once did.
This moment of nostalgia allows him to reflect to his childhood, wistfully wishing to return to a more
carefree time where he too was a kicker of branches. To emphasize this idea, he goes on to compare
the climbing of the thick wood trunks, to attempting to reach up towards heaven. As a result of this,
Frost desperately wishes to escape from the ground, and in a sense, the real world.
In spite of this, his wistful thinking is broken when he

With the ability to see the victim s emotions portrayed visually, one can begin to comprehend them
from a personal perspective and understand the sentiments of sorrow.
Spiegelman s Maus is an excellent representation of how art can channel emotion. Through his works
we are able to uncover the truth of his father s life. Through metaphors especially, Spiegelman is able

A Brief Note On The And The Classroom
Paraprofessionals
Paraprofessionals, or paras as they are most commonly called, have very important roles in and out of
the classroom. They assist special needs students with a variety of tasks and routines throughout the
school day. However, according to Giangreco, the common misconception teachers have is that the
paraprofessional and special educator will handle most of the planning, adapting, supervision, and
instruction. All I need to do is be a gracious host (Giangreco, 2003). This way of thinking can cause
tension between the para and the classroom teacher. Sure, paras are in the classroom for the special ed
kids, but teachers are in the classroom for all students. They should not ignore the students with
disabilities just because there is a para in the room who s job it is to handle these students. Para s are
in classrooms to assist the children with their learning, not take the role of the teacher.
Another common misconception, this one from the community as a whole, is that aides and paras have
the same responsibilities. Aides take the role of a teacher s assistant more so than a para. Aides are in
the classroom to help keep the chaos to a minimum, organize the classroom, and make copies for a
lesson. Paras on the other hand, are trained professionals that modify curriculum, implement behavior
management plans, and provide one on one instruction for the students with special needs (Role). In
fact, the average special education paraprofessional works in five

Q: How many sessions will be needed?
A: Six is the AVERAGE number of sessions. Depending on your skin type, hormone fluctuations, and
your own individual hair growth cycles, you may require more sessions.
Q: What are the expected results?
A: Most patients experience an 80 90% reduction in the amount of hair in a given area; it may be 90
99% for underarms and pubic areas. Normally there are just a few very fine hairs that are left.
Q: How frequent the treatment sessions are?
A: The gap between two sessions is 3 6 weeks. Hair grows in three stages and we try to synchronize
the hair growth to treat as many hairs as possible with each laser treatment. All hair are not growing at
the same time. Anagen, stage of hair growth, is most susceptible to the laser treatment as it absorbs
more energy because it contains more pigment than the other surrounding hair.

Genghis Khan s Impact On Modern Civilizations
Many of the great ancient rulers of the world are remembered for being strong warriors and military
leaders. They had a profound influence in their era and on the evolution of modern times. With their
many accomplishments and dedication towards their empires, the great rulers flourished with new
ideas and fought with no mercy to expand their empires. From the strong military forces to the wealth
made from trade, the great rulers of the past changed the lives of the people in their empire. Although
the leaders were often tough and ruthless, they made important contributions in the ancient world and
helped shape modern civilizations. One of the greatest rulers, Genghis Khan, had a dramatic impact on
history due to his brutal leadership and military tactics. He was a vicious ruler who successfully
conquered and expanded his empire. Genghis Khan was a warrior and ruler of genius who, starting
from obscure and insignificant beginnings, brought all the nomadic tribes of Mongolia under the rule
of himself and his family in a rigidly disciplined military state (Bawden, 2017). Genghis Khan s
military armies swept through most of Asia s powerful civilizations leading to the spread of
Mongolian teachings. He brutally conquered areas by killing any opposing civilizations. However, he
forced no religion on the conquered, which allowed the spread of new religions across the continent.

Black Americans had a very tough time, there were lots of things they couldn t do just because of the
colour of their skin. In the southern states of America racism was just an everyday experience for
black people. The civil rights movement in the United States was a political, legal, and social struggle
that was organized by black Americans with some help from white America. The civil rights struggle
was aimed at gaining full citizenship and racial equality for all Americans, particularly the most
discriminated group, African Americans, and was a challenge to segregation.

NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People) is an
American organization which was created to work to get rid of segregation and discrimination in
housing, education, employment, voting, and transportation; to oppose racism; and to ensure blacks
their rights. The NAACP was created in 1909, by a group of young blacks led by W.E.B. Du Bois, and
a group of concerned white people. Since its founding, the NAACP has been successful in the areas of
legal distress. Also other areas include political action for civil right laws, programs of education and
public information to win popular support, and direct action to achieve their set goals. In 1939 the
NAACP Legal Defence and Education Fund was established independently of the NAACP to act
legally for the Civil Rights Movement, and it was the NAACP s legal council that carried to the
Supreme Court the case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka.

Civil Engineering And American Engineering
Civil Engineering
Not a lot of people know about civil engineering, civil engineering is the building of bridges,
roadways, and buildings; but civil engineering is so much more than that. According to Columbia
University which is located in New York, civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering
discipline, the old civil engineering discipline or sanitary engineering has evolved into the modern
environmental engineering of such significance that most academic departments have changed their
names to civil and environmental engineering. Civil engineering has been around since people started
building major public works, known a mother engineering. The first private college to tech civil
engineering was Norwich University. Civil engineers do a lot more than design and build buildings;
bridges. They can also be found in the aerospace industry designing jetliners and space stations, the
automotive industry, power stations or where ever constructed factories or industries are located. civil
engineering focuses on the study of structural systems, the core courses in a civil engineering
curriculum reflect this. Most civil engineers start their learning with basic physics and calculus
courses. Later courses can include geology, soil mechanics, and design of steel structures. A civil
engineering curriculum is usually rounded out with advanced classes that match the student s desired
specialty, which may include development of concrete structures, and highway design, among

Jellyfish Jew Jack Prelutsky Analysis
Jack Prelutsky s poem Jellyfish Stew is fresh, silly, and wacky. The combination of satisfying rhymes
and content make it easily approachable for kids. I was inclined to it because of its peculiarity. The
content matter seemed so random and I thought it would be fun to challenge myself by analyzing such
a silly poem and trying to find depth. I also really enjoyed how much its rhymes were consistent in
every line.
Sounds
A most memorable experience in reading a great variety of poems is the sound the poem makes. As
children, we are drawn to repetitive rhymes and melodies more than content itself. It is nice to hear a
familiar pattern as we evolve and expand our reading skills to more complicated poems. A key feature
of sounds is a poem s rhymes. Repetition of similar sounds is often comforting and Prelutsky does it
very well. In the first stanza, every line but two ends with the same sound; this is for variety: Oh, truly
I do / You re creepy to see / Revolting to chew / You slide down inside / With a hullabaloo . The poem
does not features alliterations, repetitions of initial sounds. Prelutsky makes up for this by including
consonance and assonance sounds instead which are repetitions of consonant sounds and vowel
sounds, respectively. The word you is repeated at the beginning of lines, frequently You re soggy, you
re smelly / You taste like shampoo / You bog down my belly . Within those same lines, the repetition
of the s and b sounds are heard as well. A fun example of an assonance is the following line: With
oodles of goo . Both words are humorous and repeat the silly oo sound. A bit more complicated
feature of sound is a poem s rhythm, a pattern created by beats. It is established by analyzing a poem s
meter. In the first line of the poem, is a trochee: Je/lly/fish/stew but the majority of remaining syllables
in the next few lines are unstressed, making it difficult to analyze the meter overall. Pictures Pictures
in poetry are the images writers create which make us use all of our senses. Excellent pictures can
make your mind travel to new destinations simply by reading. Prelutsky uses wonderful imagery
appealing to sight suggesting how disgusting jellyfish stew is: soggy , oodles of

Cuban Revolution Essay
Fidel Castro, inspired by José Martí who first dreamt of a Cuban Revolution who died a martyr before
he could succeed, wanted to overthrow the corrupt government under Fulgencio Batista. Castro
gathered an army of revolutionaries known as the Fidelistas who were driven by nationalism,
idealism, patriotism, and the thought of possibly becoming a martyr, a historical glory of Cuba. The
result of this revolution in Cuba was an overthrow of the government and the start of a Communist
state that still remains today.
Several events occurred that led up to the Cuban Revolution. The first war for Cuban independence

The movement grew very rapidly under Céspedes control. On October 19 his forces captured the city
of Bayamo, the first larger victory. With the assistance of Máximo Gómez and other Dominican exiles,
the rebels seized much of eastern Cuba. To counter these rebel forces, Captain General Lesundi
organized the Voluntarios, or Voluntary Corps. Although the rebels lost the war, may other rebel
groups, inspired by this war, began to appear.
The year following the Ten Years War brought about the start of another attempt to gain independence
for Cuba. The quot;Little War quot; began on August 29, 1879 and only lasted until September1880.
La Guerra Chiquita, as it was known in Cuba, failed badly. It was followed by several other minor
revolts which eventually led up to Cuba s second war for independence in 1895.
Cuba s second war for independence began on April 11, 1895. After three years of planning, José
Martí along with a small group of rebels landed at Maisí Cape on the northern coast of Cuba. Martí
and his rebels marched inland to meet with another rebel force led by General Máximo Gómez.
Against the advice of Gómez, Martí rode on his horse into the Cuban brush and on May 19, just thirty
nine days after his return, Martí fell in a volley of Spanish gunfire. He was killed therefor becoming a
martyr and a future role model for Fidel Castro. In December

The Basic Principles Of The Elizabethan Poor Laws Of 1601
The basic principles of the Elizabethan Poor Laws of 1601 were local investigation and administration
of relief, work as a component of all assistance, and categorization of the poor into three groups: the
able bodied poor, the impotent poor, and dependent children (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 104). Basically,
creating a welfare system to help assist the poor, implementing programs to get people working, and
categorizing the poor as worthy or unworthy poor. Examples of this in the present social welfare
system are TANF, unemployment insurance, Social Security, SSI, and SDI. Within the TANF and
unemployment program, there is a job search requirement to encourage people to find work. Also,
much like the Elizabethan Poor Laws, people are categorized to receive specific benefits based on
whether they can work or not, like SSI, which is for people who are currently unable to work because
of old age or disability. Worthy poor are the people who have worked, but no longer can because they
are aged or disabled , the people who can work if they want to, or can support their families if they
work hard enough (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 10). Unworthy poor is anyone else who has never worked
and will not work. It is assumed that these people are poor because of some kind of willfulness,
laziness, or refusal to be productive and support themselves (Longmore, 1997).
Two prominent ideologies that play a role in the development of social welfare policy and social
welfare programs are

Throughout Martin Scorsese s nearly 50 year long career, he has come to be known as a master of his
craft, having directed countless films hailed as modern day masterpieces. As with any cinematic
auteur, his films are often grouped together and boiled down to a group of recurring elements, both
narrative and technological, featured across his oeuvre. Scorsese s body of work continually addresses

The plot concerns a young lawyer named Newland Archer, played by Daniel Day Lewis, who falls in
love with divorcee Ellen Olenska, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Archer also happens to be engaged to
Olenska s cousin May Welland, played by Winona Ryder. Given Scorsese s involvement with the
project, one might assume the film is a revisionist take on Wharton s novel, similar to his take on
MGM musicals with New York, New York, or at the very least feature instances of amped up
language, sexuality, or violence. But his Age of Innocence is as straightforward as period romances
get, resulting in a lush drama where no blood is shed, hell is uttered once, and cigars are favored over
cocaine. At first glance, it d even be hard to watch the film and believe that Scorsese had directed it.
The film was a minor box office failure, just failing to recoup its $34 million budget with only $32.3
million at the box office. Critically, the film received many positive notices, with The New York
Times writing that Scorsese had made a gorgeously uncharacteristic Scorsese film... the work of one
of America s handful of master craftsmen and Time Out praising the way he employs all the tools of
his trade to bring his characters and situations vividly to life. Bearing a PG rating for thematic
elements and some mild language, The Age of Innocence is seemingly no different in it s approach to
the genre than countless other period dramas of the day, such as The English Patient (Anthony
Minghella, 1996), Sense Sensibility (Ang Lee, 1996), or The Remains of the Day (James Ivory, 1993).
But watching the film with an understanding of Scorsese s general filmmaking tendencies, it s easy to
understand why he would be drawn to this particular adaptation for his first foray into the genre.

Summary Of Ayn Rand s Theory Of Rational Selfishness
I agree with Ayn Rand s theory of Rational Selfishness and with how she depicts altruism in terms of
the false idea of benevolence and the actuality of the true concept of self sacrifice. Before reading this
chapter of Rand s book, I labelled myself as an altruist, because I was raised under the false
interpretation of altruism, I believed it was about giving to those who were in need, even if that meant
you had to do without for the time being. My definition of selfishness was society s misunderstood
definition, living and operating only to accomplish and fulfill my desire. In the article, The Ethics of
Benign Selfishness by Tibor R. Machan he discusses the prominence of altruism and states that one of

can operate as an island, human survival involves taking care of one s own well being as well as your

The Federal Sentencing Guidelines And The Equal Protection...
Women are twice as likely as men to avoid incarceration if convicted of a crime. Whether or not this is
fair, though, is highly debated. Some politicians argue that women s prisons be abolished all together,
while Men s Rights Activists push for equal sentencing for comparable crimes. It has been proven that
judges tend to give women less time in prison, or no incarceration at all, and the reasons for this
support the imbalance in sentencing. Though many view women s tendency to receive lighter
punishments as unfair, it is justified that women receive this treatment because of legal rules that
surround the subject, the statistics that show women commit less serious and violent crimes, and how
women being incarcerated impacts those around them. Laws like the Federal Sentencing Guidelines
and the Equal Protection Clause were created to allow equal sentencing and treatment for all, but have
proven to allow for women to be given lighter sentences. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines are
designed to encourage the uniform and proportional treatment of defendants based on legally relevant
factors (Doerner, Jill K., and Stephen Demuth). What has evolved to be legally relevant though, does
not include gender. The guidelines allow for some discretion through the use of departures, which
enable factors such as family ties and responsibilities to be considered (Doerner, Jill K., and Stephen
Demuth). This further allows extralegal factors to be considered when a judge determines the

Persistence Of Memory Edge Of The Trees Analysis
Persistence of Memory [See Appendix 4] and Edge of the Trees [See Appendix 1] are two examples of
artworks that both aim to communicate a social comment that is relevant to the artist s background and
beliefs. Persistence of Memory was painted by Salvador Dali who was a Spanish artist, celebrated for
his surrealistic dreamscapes. Since his birth in 1904, Dali was an eccentric individual with limitless
creativity. His fiercely technical yet highly unusual paintings, sculptures, films and life size interactive
art pieces were achieved by pouring his boldness and creativity in to each one. Edge of the Trees was
collaboratively created by Janet Laurence and Fiona Foley; two Australian artists of completely
different backgrounds. Janet Laurence (1947) is a Sydney based artist and architect of more than 25
years. Fiona Foley (1964) is another contemporary Australian painter, printmaker, photographer,
sculptor, installation artist, writer and community activist, whose work is greatly influenced by her
heritage and history. Foley s work often discusses the hidden histories of Australia s colonial past and
its interface with Aboriginal people. Edge of the Trees (1995) ... Show more content on

On my latest research of obtaining a search warrant you will notice that in many cases because a
search warrant grants law enforcement officers the right to search parts of personal space that are not

Bluetooth Vs. Bluetooth Essay
1.2 Bluetooth application
Bluetooth is designed to operate in an environment of many users. Up to eight devices can
communicate in a
small network called a piconet. Ten of these piconets can coexist in the same coverage range of the
Bluetooth
radio. To provide security, each link is encoded and protected against eavesdropping and interference.
Bluetooth provides support for three general application areas using short range wireless connectivity:
 Data and voice access points. Bluetooth facilitates real time voice and data transmissions by
providing
effortless wireless connection of portable and stationary communications devices.
 Cable replacement. Bluetooth eliminates the need for numerous, often proprietary cable
attachments for
connection of practically any kind of communications device. Connections are instant and are
maintained
even when devices are not within line of sight. The range of each radio is approximately 10 m, but can
be
extended to 100 m with an optional amplifier.
 Ad hoc networking. A device equipped with a Bluetooth radio can establish instant connection to
another Bluetooth radio as soon as it comes into range.
1.3 Bl uetooth Standards Documents
The Bluetooth standards present a formidable bulk well over 1,500 pages, divided into two groups:

How Did Dorothea Dix Impact The World
What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around us
(Dorothea Dix Quotes). The same person that said this famous quote started the evolution to a better
path for the imprisoned and the mentally ill in the 1800 s. Dorothea Lynde Dix, a famous Civil War
nurse made a difference in this world by traveling around the world to give back and help the ill and
imprisoned. She gave them better lives as well as taking a stand for women to be able to help the
wounded in the Civil War. Dorothea Dix impacted the world by changing perceptions on mentally ill
and prisoners. She gave them a fair chance to live a satisfying life by being a huge part of creating
dozens of new institutions across the United States and in Europe. Dorothea Dix started her change in
the world when she was younger by becoming a teacher. In 1821 Dix opened an academy for wealthy

  • 2. Definition Of Dance Society has been greatly influenced by song and movement. There is no documented time when dance was first discovered, since it has been around for more than any person remember. There are millions of types and definitions of dance in the world, and it can be performed or interpreted in many different ways. The dictionary most commonly defines dance as moving rhythmically to music, typically following a sequence of steps. But dance is so much more than justs the simple movement, it is an escape from reality, the opportunity to meet great new people, and a message to be read. Dance is an escape from reality. • 3. Primary Causes Of Constipation Review of Literature Constipation is a common, yet complex symptom that may be idiopathic or manifest secondary to an underlying disorder. While it is generally not life threatening on its own, constipation has a significant adverse impact on the comfort and quality of life clinically affecting about 10 19% of the American population at any one time (Smeltzer, Bare, Hinkle Cheever, 2013, p.1286). A symptom rather than a disease, causation is defined as either primary or secondary. Primary causes relate to the dysfunction of colonic motility, defecation, or both. Secondary causes of constipation are related to medications, lifestyle, neuropathological problems, endocrine disturbances, metabolic or may be related to neuropathological issues (Andrews Storr, 2011, p.16B; Marples, 2011, p.41). There are two criteria that are used in the canon of literature related to chronic constipation. The American College of Gastroenterology defines constipation as a symptom based disorder characterized by unsatisfactory defecation due to infrequent stools, difficult stool passage, or both (Gallegos Orozco, Foxx Orenstein, Sterler Stoa, 2012, p.18). Used for symptoms that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Metropolis Mise En Scene Metropolis is a German silent film directed by Fritz Lang that was released in 1927. It has received a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes...and it is a film that I absolutely cannot stand. Despite having grown up in the digital age, my disdain for this film is not contributed to the fact that the film is silent (although this may be an underlying factor that contributes to other reasons that I do not like this movie). Rather I think my dislike for this film is rooted in genre. Metropolis is a science fiction film, and science fiction is not a genre that I particularly fancy. But there are elements of mise en scene that also make me not like this film. The film is set in the future, and yet the costumes of the actors do not reflect this whatsoever. The actors are still in the attire that represents the time that the movie was made in 1927. But because Metropolis was one of the first movies made within the science fiction genre, it may not have been a custom to try and make clothing match the futuristic setting and scenery of the film. Another reason I do not like the film in terms of aesthetics is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this may have been done because the actors have to compensate for the fact that there is no sound in the film. But as we discussed in class, acting styles have changed over time and this may be why I dislike the acting in this film. But because I find the score in the film good at expressing the emotions of characters and setting the tone of the movie, I do not think that the way the actors act is necessary. While I do believe that the score did a good job at reflecting the emotions of actors and the overall tone of the film, in general I find the score to be repetitive. There are a couple of songs that are repeated throughout the film, which may be viewed as a musical motif but to me the use of the same songs over and over again becomes ... • 5. Descriptive Essay On My Thursday Morning The clock glares off the white tile floor, my blushed face matches the bright lettering on the clock. Collected dust and dirt from the students shoes has now ended up all along of the back of my pants. What a great way to start off my thursday morning. Beep, beep, beep, sounded my alarm, 7:05 glared across the screen of my fluorescent alarm clock into my squinted eyes in the barely lit room. My legs quickly jolted out of my bed, I was late again, I was supposed to be in the car by 7:25, of course since I was already running very late, it was also the type of morning when I had nothing prepared. I had no idea what to wear, and hadn t packed my lunch or backpack, but at this point i had only been awake for around 5 minutes, so I wasn t thinking very clearly. I grabbed all of my stuff and made it out the door only 5 minutes late. Since I left a little bit late, I had to sit in traffic on Woodruff Road, but luckily I made it to first period on time, I was in geometry, when the teacher asked us to get out our homework, I dug in my backpack and couldn t find my notebook anywhere, meaning that I had left it at home. So I had already woken up late, and now also forgotten my math homework, I figured that my thursday couldn t get much worse, I was wrong. It was newly spring, meaning it was time to start wearing sandals. I was wearing my brand new Sam Edelman shoes. They were taupe and laced up, with a very thin bottom with clearly no friction, this was my first mistake. I had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Summary Of Patterns By Amy Lowell Patterns Amy Lowell was a leader of the Imagists movement. She was influenced by John Keats and gathered a selection of his works. Lowell began to write after her brothers published books of their own, but she focused on poetry. The detail in Lowell s poetry related to describing and environment or a person could help the reader better understand what is happening in the poem and include the reader as if they were actually there experiencing what the narrator or speaker is experiencing. Her choices develop a bigger picture than what the poem is actually saying. Amy Lowell helped to change the thought process when reading poetry. Amy Lowell s Patterns is a very good example of imagery being used to draw the reader s attention. This poem is filled with so many bright and vivid colors and different moods that it attracts the reader. Each stanza shows a different scene or a different moment in the same area and exuding different emotions to share that moment and feeling. The first two stanzas and the last three stanzas are in the present, while the third and fourth stanzas are flashbacks or memories she is having as she remembers her lost lover. The title Patterns refers to the gown that the speaker is wearing, the different flowers in the garden, the paths that are in the garden, and the war that the speaker mentions towards the end of the poem. In the first stanza, the speaker is walking through the garden and she notices the wind blowing on the flowers causing them to move or sway. She continues walking through the garden in her stiff but beautifully embroidered gown. She has white hair and a fan embellished with jewels. She states that she has a unique design. The mood in this stanza seems calm or content but a little uncomfortable. The second stanza she is still walking along the path in the garden and her train is dragging on the ground behind her covering the path and the plants along the sides. Her ensemble is currently in style and so are her shoes. She only shows confidence while wearing her corset and gown. She slowly takes a seat under the lime tree, although the corset makes it difficult and uncomfortable to sit, she sits anyway. She watches the flowers swing in the breeze wanting to be able to do ... • 8. Modernism In Langston Hughes s The Negro Speaks Of Rivers Modernism was a philosophical movement that occurred in America and England during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This era is distinguished by the break with traditions of literary forms, styles, and concepts, giving creation to an assortment of cultural, art, and political movements. Perhaps nobody took as full of an advantage of the concept of modernism as poets did, expanding the possibilities of their works to unimaginable lengths. Poets such as Langston Hughes, William Carlos Williams, Gertrude Stein, and many others employed literary devices to portray important messages that they often buried in their works. From the use of these literary devices such as metaphors, imagery, and symbolism these poets were able to portray concepts of race, class, and gender in the Modernism era. Written at the age of seventeen, The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston Hughes illustrates the historical journey of the African American race to America (Socarides). By using rivers as a metaphor for the source of life, Hughes outlines the movement of African American race from the Nile and Euphrates rivers in Africa to the Mississippi. Hughes subtly expresses his admonition of slavery and racism in the line My soul has grown deep like the rivers (Line 4). The line first appears in the poem when it follows the speaker s statement that he has known rivers ancient as the world and older than the/ flow of human blood in human veins (Lines 2 3). The speaker here classifies himself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a society that is crumbling, religion is seemed to be the only thing striving. The idea that although society could be falling apart many of the characters either cling to their beliefs, or shy away from them. Laurens creation of Earthseed proves that in a failing society, the concept of religion somehow still survives. In the very beginning of the book Lauren begins to question the idea of God. Since she grew up in a religious setting (her father being a pastor) much of her religious knowledge comes from the church. However, from a very early start Lauren has always begun to question the very principles that were taught to her. In present society, the issues are just beginning. Lauren is in a secluded community, unable to leave because of the unknown dangers outside the walls. It s no surprise she begins to question the principles of God. • 16. How Does Frost Use Symbols In Robert Frost Frost first illustrates the use of symbolism through the bending of the birches in order to allude to a freedom from reality. In this manner, he begins by imagining that the shapes and bends of the birch trees were caused by a young boy climbing and swinging gleefully upon the trunks; as he once did. This moment of nostalgia allows him to reflect to his childhood, wistfully wishing to return to a more carefree time where he too was a kicker of branches. To emphasize this idea, he goes on to compare the climbing of the thick wood trunks, to attempting to reach up towards heaven. As a result of this, Frost desperately wishes to escape from the ground, and in a sense, the real world. In spite of this, his wistful thinking is broken when he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They assist special needs students with a variety of tasks and routines throughout the school day. However, according to Giangreco, the common misconception teachers have is that the paraprofessional and special educator will handle most of the planning, adapting, supervision, and instruction. All I need to do is be a gracious host (Giangreco, 2003). This way of thinking can cause tension between the para and the classroom teacher. Sure, paras are in the classroom for the special ed kids, but teachers are in the classroom for all students. They should not ignore the students with disabilities just because there is a para in the room who s job it is to handle these students. Para s are in classrooms to assist the children with their learning, not take the role of the teacher. Another common misconception, this one from the community as a whole, is that aides and paras have the same responsibilities. Aides take the role of a teacher s assistant more so than a para. Aides are in the classroom to help keep the chaos to a minimum, organize the classroom, and make copies for a lesson. Paras on the other hand, are trained professionals that modify curriculum, implement behavior management plans, and provide one on one instruction for the students with special needs (Role). • 26. Jellyfish Jew Jack Prelutsky Analysis Jack Prelutsky s poem Jellyfish Stew is fresh, silly, and wacky. The combination of satisfying rhymes and content make it easily approachable for kids. I was inclined to it because of its peculiarity. The content matter seemed so random and I thought it would be fun to challenge myself by analyzing such a silly poem and trying to find depth. I also really enjoyed how much its rhymes were consistent in every line. Sounds A most memorable experience in reading a great variety of poems is the sound the poem makes. As children, we are drawn to repetitive rhymes and melodies more than content itself. It is nice to hear a familiar pattern as we evolve and expand our reading skills to more complicated poems. A key feature of sounds is a poem s rhymes. Repetition of similar sounds is often comforting and Prelutsky does it very well. In the first stanza, every line but two ends with the same sound; this is for variety: Oh, truly I do / You re creepy to see / Revolting to chew / You slide down inside / With a hullabaloo . The poem does not features alliterations, repetitions of initial sounds. Prelutsky makes up for this by including consonance and assonance sounds instead which are repetitions of consonant sounds and vowel sounds, respectively. The word you is repeated at the beginning of lines, frequently You re soggy, you re smelly / You taste like shampoo / You bog down my belly . Within those same lines, the repetition of the s and b sounds are heard as well. A fun example of an assonance is the following line: With oodles of goo . Both words are humorous and repeat the silly oo sound. A bit more complicated feature of sound is a poem s rhythm, a pattern created by beats. It is established by analyzing a poem s meter. In the first line of the poem, is a trochee: Je/lly/fish/stew but the majority of remaining syllables in the next few lines are unstressed, making it difficult to analyze the meter overall. • 28. The Basic Principles Of The Elizabethan Poor Laws Of 1601 The basic principles of the Elizabethan Poor Laws of 1601 were local investigation and administration of relief, work as a component of all assistance, and categorization of the poor into three groups: the able bodied poor, the impotent poor, and dependent children (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 104). Basically, creating a welfare system to help assist the poor, implementing programs to get people working, and categorizing the poor as worthy or unworthy poor. Examples of this in the present social welfare system are TANF, unemployment insurance, Social Security, SSI, and SDI. Within the TANF and unemployment program, there is a job search requirement to encourage people to find work. Also, much like the Elizabethan Poor Laws, people are categorized to receive specific benefits based on whether they can work or not, like SSI, which is for people who are currently unable to work because of old age or disability. Worthy poor are the people who have worked, but no longer can because they are aged or disabled , the people who can work if they want to, or can support their families if they work hard enough (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 10). Unworthy poor is anyone else who has never worked and will not work. As with any cinematic auteur, his films are often grouped together and boiled down to a group of recurring elements, both narrative and technological, featured across his oeuvre. Scorsese s body of work continually addresses issues of Sicilian American identity, guilt and redemption, masculinity, crime, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plot concerns a young lawyer named Newland Archer, played by Daniel Day Lewis, who falls in love with divorcee Ellen Olenska, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Archer also happens to be engaged to Olenska s cousin May Welland, played by Winona Ryder. Given Scorsese s involvement with the project, one might assume the film is a revisionist take on Wharton s novel, similar to his take on MGM musicals with New York, New York, or at the very least feature instances of amped up language, sexuality, or violence. But his Age of Innocence is as straightforward as period romances get, resulting in a lush drama where no blood is shed, hell is uttered once, and cigars are favored over cocaine. At first glance, it d even be hard to watch the film and believe that Scorsese had directed it. The film was a minor box office failure, just failing to recoup its $34 million budget with only $32.3 million at the box office. Critically, the film received many positive notices, with The New York Times writing that Scorsese had made a gorgeously uncharacteristic Scorsese film... the work of one of America s handful of master craftsmen and Time Out praising the way he employs all the tools of his trade to bring his characters and situations vividly to life. Bearing a PG rating for thematic elements and some mild language, The Age of Innocence is seemingly no different in it s approach to the genre than countless other period dramas of the day, such as The English Patient (Anthony Minghella, 1996), Sense Sensibility (Ang Lee, 1996), or The Remains of the Day (James Ivory, 1993). But watching the film with an understanding of Scorsese s general filmmaking tendencies, it s easy to understand why he would be drawn to this particular adaptation for his first foray into the genre. • 32. Summary Of Ayn Rand s Theory Of Rational Selfishness I agree with Ayn Rand s theory of Rational Selfishness and with how she depicts altruism in terms of the false idea of benevolence and the actuality of the true concept of self sacrifice. Before reading this chapter of Rand s book, I labelled myself as an altruist, because I was raised under the false interpretation of altruism, I believed it was about giving to those who were in need, even if that meant you had to do without for the time being. My definition of selfishness was society s misunderstood definition, living and operating only to accomplish and fulfill my desire. In the article, The Ethics of Benign Selfishness by Tibor R. Machan he discusses the prominence of altruism and states that one of the reasons why it is so commonly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The moral code of selfishness does not support an individual who only focuses on themselves without the care for the interests and wellbeing of others nor does it promote a deficiency in self care. Since the entire universe is connected, no man can operate as an island, human survival involves taking care of one s own well being as well as your neighbors. So, self interest could never be the motivation for the actions and choices made by all individuals because then society wouldn t progress. • 33. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines And The Equal Protection... Women are twice as likely as men to avoid incarceration if convicted of a crime. Whether or not this is fair, though, is highly debated. Some politicians argue that women s prisons be abolished all together, while Men s Rights Activists push for equal sentencing for comparable crimes. It has been proven that judges tend to give women less time in prison, or no incarceration at all, and the reasons for this support the imbalance in sentencing. Though many view women s tendency to receive lighter punishments as unfair, it is justified that women receive this treatment because of legal rules that surround the subject, the statistics that show women commit less serious and violent crimes, and how women being incarcerated impacts those around them. Laws like the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and the Equal Protection Clause were created to allow equal sentencing and treatment for all, but have proven to allow for women to be given lighter sentences. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines are designed to encourage the uniform and proportional treatment of defendants based on legally relevant factors (Doerner, Jill K., and Stephen Demuth). What has evolved to be legally relevant though, does not include gender. The guidelines allow for some discretion through the use of departures, which enable factors such as family ties and responsibilities to be considered (Doerner, Jill K., and Stephen Demuth). This further allows extralegal factors to be considered when a judge determines the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Persistence Of Memory Edge Of The Trees Analysis Persistence of Memory [See Appendix 4] and Edge of the Trees [See Appendix 1] are two examples of artworks that both aim to communicate a social comment that is relevant to the artist s background and beliefs. Persistence of Memory was painted by Salvador Dali who was a Spanish artist, celebrated for his surrealistic dreamscapes. Since his birth in 1904, Dali was an eccentric individual with limitless creativity. His fiercely technical yet highly unusual paintings, sculptures, films and life size interactive art pieces were achieved by pouring his boldness and creativity in to each one. Edge of the Trees was collaboratively created by Janet Laurence and Fiona Foley; two Australian artists of completely different backgrounds. Janet Laurence (1947) is a Sydney based artist and architect of more than 25 years. Fiona Foley (1964) is another contemporary Australian painter, printmaker, photographer, sculptor, installation artist, writer and community activist, whose work is greatly influenced by her heritage and history. Indeed, a search warrant for one item cannot be used for a broader search of another item not stated in the warrant. In completing a search warrant, you need to show that based on the circumstances it s reasonable to believe that a search will produce useful information in solving a crime. • 38. Bluetooth Vs. Bluetooth Essay 1.2 Bluetooth application Bluetooth is designed to operate in an environment of many users. Up to eight devices can communicate in a small network called a piconet. Ten of these piconets can coexist in the same coverage range of the Bluetooth radio. To provide security, each link is encoded and protected against eavesdropping and interference. Bluetooth provides support for three general application areas using short range wireless connectivity:  Data and voice access points. Bluetooth facilitates real time voice and data transmissions by providing effortless wireless connection of portable and stationary communications devices.  Cable replacement. Bluetooth eliminates the need for numerous, often proprietary cable attachments for connection of practically any kind of communications device. Connections are instant and are maintained even when devices are not within line of sight. The range of each radio is approximately 10 m, but can be extended to 100 m with an optional amplifier.  Ad hoc networking. A device equipped with a Bluetooth radio can establish instant connection to another Bluetooth radio as soon as it comes into range. 1.3 Bl uetooth Standards Documents The Bluetooth standards present a formidable bulk well over 1,500 pages, divided into two groups: core and profile. The core specifications describe the details of the various layers of the Bluetooth protocol architecture,
