Have you ever had two employees who are constantly frustrated by one another?
The normal approach to resolve employees conflicting is to 'knock their heads together' and tell them to get on with it.
But have you considered a more probing approach? Have you considered tapping into the psychology of the two employees styles?
Luckily, you don't have to be a Chartered Psychologist to tap into your teams psyche and solve this common company culture issue.

Assignment 1Finding the Leader in You Self-Assessment Johari.docxdeanmtaylor1545
Assignment 1:
Finding the Leader in You: Self-Assessment / Johari Window
·
The Johari Window emphasizes that we may not be aware of everything that there is to know about ourselves. Others may know things about us that we just cannot see or are unwilling to admit. One way to improve our personal relationships is to increase what we know about ourselves and what others know about us. The following two (2) behaviors are key to improving personal and professional relationships:
·
Openness to Feedback – we have to recognize that others see things in us that we may not be aware of and accept information they provide.
·
Willingness to Disclose – we have to trust others enough to share personal information with them.
Grasping the realities of organizational behavior begins with an understanding one’s own personality and behavioral tendencies. Assignment 1 is designed to address issues of personal understanding, planning, and professional development. By analyzing your own assessment, you will understand how intuitiveness, culture, diversity, and leadership style influence decision making. Reference the scores of the assessments that you completed for homework in Week 1 as you complete this assignment.
Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:
1.
Develop a profile of your personality characteristics and assessment results.
2.
Summarize the results of the assessments you completed for homework in Week 1.
3.
Analyze how attributes / scores speak to your relationships and career choice.
4.
Submit the completed Self-Assessment Score Sheet as an appendix in Assignment 1.
5.
Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
·
Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
·
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

wants to generate ideas, a third is focused on developing a solution, and still another is ready to just do it.
FourSight gives you a window to view these interactions as preferences rather than distractions and, thus,
maximize the benefits of diversity.
THE FOUR PREFERENCES: USING FOURSIGHT TO IMPROVE
PERSONAL PERFORMANCE
FourSight enables individuals to identify the degree of energy they have for four different process preferences.
These preferences are called Clarifier, Ideator, Developer, and Implementer. Both research (Puccio, 1999, 2002;
Puccio & Grivas, 2009; Rife, 2001) and experiences gained through the use of FourSight with numerous groups
have led to insights into the qualities and characteristics associated with each of the four preferences. Table 13.2
provides a summary of the key qualities associated with each of the preferences measured by FourSight. As you
examine this table, think about yourself in light of these descriptors. Which ones sound like you? Which ones
sound completely foreign to how you think and behave? Some people have a strong inclination for just one of the
four preferences. Others have combinations of peak preferences (i.e., a person might enjoy and have great energy
for both the Clarifier and Implementer preferences). As you read these columns, place a check next to those items
that describe you. Be honest with yourself. This quick self-assessment may help you gain some insights into your
approach to the creative process.
FourSight is a value-neutral assessment of creative process preferences. Having a strong preference in one area
over another is not inherently good or bad; each preference has its characteristic assets and potential liabilities. The
value is in understanding your preferences. This information can show you areas of strength and unearth blind
spots in your interactions with people and process. It can help you to understand why you have been successful in
some situations and why others frustrate you. The goal is to use this information to arrive at a deeper
understanding of how you personally approach the creative process and then to use this information to enhance
your effectiveness.
Individuals with a strong preference for Clarifier are drawn to and have a great deal of energy for uncovering
facts that determine the most productive way of defining the task or problem. Clarifiers are good at examining the
details, analyzing situations, and diagnosing problems. They are not satisfied with a cursory understanding of a
situation; therefore, they seek information and have a tendency to ask lots of questions to develop a deep
understanding. They are cautious about leaping to conclusions or solutions. Because any preference taken to an
extreme can become a liability, high Clarifiers run the risk of suffering from analysis paralysis by overanalyzing
situations to such a degree that ...

Techniques for Managing a Diverse Team
Managing a diverse team
Think about a great manager who's really motivated you in the past. What comes to mind? Many people describe such managers as fair, respectful, encouraging, objective, clear, and good listeners. The key in a diverse work environment is to be this way with everyone, and not only with the employees you feel comfortable with. Managing a diverse team requires a commitment to demonstrate these kinds of behaviors with everyone on the team.
The more you can really connect with each of your team members, the more you'll be able to create a highly productive environment. Once you've established your initial approach to managing diversity by building diversity awareness in yourself and your team, you need to use different techniques to maintain the approach. The techniques for managing a diverse team are to communicate inclusively, consider individual needs, delegate fairly, and evaluate objectively.
Communicating inclusively
The first technique, communicating inclusively, means being careful that your language doesn't make anyone feel marginalized. All team members should feel comfortable and know their contributions matter. And listening is one of the most important communication skills. Listen actively to what team members have to say to be sure you understand what they're trying to communicate. You also have to be clear when you communicate. Especially in diverse environments, you need to check to make sure all team members understand you.
In addition to listening well and being clear, to communicate inclusively you can use two specific techniques:
1. be open – share all appropriate information, recognize and accept differences, change, and new ways of doing things, and respond honestly
2. use inclusive language – call people by their preferred names, avoid stereotypes, and avoid using metaphors that may exclude someone
Do you know the background of each of your team members? Demonstrating an open and flexible mind is easier when you know who you're communicating with. Remember that communication is a two-way process, and every team member has had experiences that have shaped their views, opinions, and biases. You also have opinions and biases. So you'll need to adjust your language in a way that helps all your employees feel like part of the communication process, especially when they come from backgrounds different from your own.
Because language is powerful, you need to be careful you don't use language that makes others feel excluded. Inclusive language is nonsexist and nonracist. Some people think using "politically correct" phrasing is a trivial matter, but words can shape people's realities. Not many little girls grow up wanting to be a "chairman." But children of either gender can see themselves as a "chairperson."
You can use more inclusive language in several different areas:
· gender – Avoid gender-specific pronouns, and don't use language that suggests human beings only come ...

Training my puppy and implementation in this story
What is your style of thinking and is it worth having a team with varied styles of thought?
1. Different Styles Of Thought And Their Contribution To Team Building
Thinking is as integral to human life as breathing. Thought patterns influence every aspect of life ranging
from attitudes, expectations, goals and assumptions to interpretations. Thinking styles differ from person
to person and impact the entire spectrum of life right from the personal and interpersonal to the societal.
When thinking styles match, it results in improved communication. Understanding peoples’ learning styles
within a framework of understanding thinking styles can make inroads into better communication
patterns.
Building rapport is the core of determining five known thinking styles. It is undoubtedly the key to
improving communication, building influence and creating trust. The common thinking styles are:
• Rationalism: People who subscribe to this style are intellectual, quantitative, problem-solvers and
balanced. Their thinking is both direct and logical.
• Creative: This style of thinking yields conceptual thinkers who are flexible, curious, spontaneous,
risk-taking and open-minded. Generally innovators and they tend to think strategically.
• Analysis: Analytical thinkers are practical planners, structured and industrious. They are often
determined.
• Pragmatism: Pragmatic people also have traits that are synergistic, expressive and cooperative.
They are generally friendly and kindhearted in nature. They respect other people’s feelings and
work as very good negotiators.
• Realism: Realists are those who want to know as briefly as possible where the problem lies and
how it can be fixed instead of reading reams of printouts and detailed information on the problem.
Once you are able to determine the thinking style of your colleague, customer, client, business partner or
boss, it is easier to handle work situations effectively. While one or two thinking styles are predominantly
used by most people, there are a sizeable chunk of people who use all five styles equally. Such people are
generally easy to work with.
Understanding different thinking styles and being able to find common ground can have a lot of
advantages—whether you are a manager, boss, colleague, team member or customer. The effect can be
catalytic and can bring about cross-functional changes, while also providing people with a vocabulary that
allows for candid discussions of differences in opinions and ideas. This, in turn, is the path that leads to
building a foundation of mutual respect and cooperative interaction among colleagues.
Team work can be positively impacted by one’s ability to identify, understand, appreciate and explore
patterns of thinking different from their own. Examine contrasting perspectives and target the ones at
work in different roles or functions. Being able to clearly understand and identify thinking styles can gear
up team members with effective communication skills for both the team and customers. Better ways to
design project groups that are functional and efficient and work conceptually will gradually lead to
innovation, improved performance and better results.
Do share your thoughts on the same.
