For My Second Practicum, I Wrote Two Lesson Plans Because
For my second practicum, I wrote two lesson plans because I wanted to allow my student to choose
what book he wanted to read. I planned a shared reading lesson over The Story of Henny Penny by
Richard Carson and an interactive reading lesson over I Think I Forgot by Mercer Mayer.
Planning for two different books was not difficult, but I had to keep in mind that my student was only
going to have the opportunity to read one of the books, and in the end, my student chose to read The
Story of Henny Penny. For this shared reading lesson, I followed the steps for a shared reading by Gail
E. Tompkins (2014). I had to adjust and adapt the steps slightly because I only see my student once a
week for forty minutes which means I don t have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reread the story. 5. Continue the process. 6. Students read independently.
If I had more time or saw my student more frequently, I would make sure to include these steps during
a shared reading lesson.
After I planned the shared reading portion of the lesson, I planned a short writing activity where my
student would have the opportunity to write down the three main events from the story.
The teaching part of this lesson went in a totally different direction than I had planned. After the
picture walk, my student showed a deep interest in trying to read the book out loud on his own, and I
made the decision to let my student give the book a try. Since this book was a level above what my
student s level, I figured that after a page or so he would want me to take over the reading. That is not
what happened though.
My student read the entire book on his own with minimal error! This slight change in my lesson plan
meant that I was no longer teaching a shared reading lesson, but rather a guided reading lesson. After
my student finished reading, we proceeded with the lesson I had planned. We discussed the story, what
happened, what plot was, and then the plot of this story. Then he used the story cards to retell the
story. I labeled clothes pins with numbers one through six and had them on a piece of yarn to
symbolize that the events on the card happened in order to form a whole story. After that we moved on

The Oversexualization And Objectification Of Women
The Oversexualization and Objectification of Women
On all platforms of media, women and even young girls are oversexualized; thus leading to men
viewing women as no more than breasts, vaginas, legs, or any other body part they prefer. Even in
current television shows, movies, comic books, and advertisements, women are still depicted as sexual
objects, which can damage a woman s confidence. The oversexualization of women s bodies can
degrade a young woman s confidence, and when girls try to boost confidence by dressing or acting
like the women they see in the media, they are reprimanded for it. Girls cannot be blamed for their
sexualization; they are just emulating what they see in the media. On television and in movies, women
are often portrayed as the love interest for the main male character or the succubus that tries to gain
the main character s love through temptation. Most the women depicted in the romances are white,
thin, and busty. Often the attractive female lead has a best friend who is deemed overweight and never
receives any romantic interactions. The only goal the female character has is to gain the attention of
the main character. In other movies and television shows when the female character is not considered
attractive, she must go through a complete makeover before her love interest even notices her. Once
the makeover is complete, the girl s love interest is completely stupefied with her beauty and instantly
falls in love with her. This plot device leads

Administrative Law Essay
PART A: This problem is a straight forward problem in judicial review and prerogative remedies.
Judicial review can be done through Prerogative orders. Judicial review refers to the Court s review of
a lower or administrative body s factual or legal findings[1]. Prerogative remedies are remedies which
if not always are designed from the first for the control of governmental duties and powers, have long
been used for the purpose especially[2]. These remedies are such as certiorari, mandamus, prohibition,
quo warranto and habeas corpus. Appropriate remedies which Cristiano Ronaldo may seek in an
action before the High Court and the reasons for seeking of each of the remedies are; Certiorari, this is

The public duty imposed should be of an imperative nature and not a discretionary one. The applicant
must have locus stand that is he must have sufficient interest in the matter he is applying for lastly
there should be no other appropriate remedy available to the applicant. In this problem the conditions
are present as Ronaldo has demanded the performance for the renewal of license and the Director of
Trade refused and he was not been given notice as noted in the case of Palm Beach Inn Ltd and
Another v. Commissioner for Tourism and Two Others[8]. Also Mr. Toure was having a duty to
perform on him thus to grant license. This duty was not of an imperative nature as the case of
considering the application of license and not discretion as per the case of Re Mohamed Aslam
Khan[9]. Also Ronaldo has a interest as he is an aggrieved person thus he has a locus standi as per the
case of Alfred Lakaru v. Town Director Arusha[10]. Lastly there is no other appropriate remedy as the
right to appeal is not indicated in the problem. Reasons in which Ronaldo can base in his application
are violation of the rules of natural justice as per the case of Simeoni Manyaki v. Institute of Financial
Management[11] Also there was irrelevant consideration as per the case of Fernandez v. Kericho
Liquor Licensing Board. Error of jurisdiction as per the case of R v.

Benjamin Franklin Contributions
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor
safety. Benjamin Franklin It was quotes like this that pegged Benjamin Franklin as the face of
America during pre Revolutionary times. Franklin was a Founding Father, an inventor, a scientist, a
polymath, a politician, a printer, and wore numerous other hats. He essentially changed the world s
view of America, showing everyone that Americans were not idle or unsuccessful, rather respected,
appreciated, and intelligent. Three important aspects of Franklin s life were his personal life, his
scientific discoveries, and his impact on American history. Ben was the 15th child of 17, born in 1706
in Boston, Massachusetts. Growing up, Ben was never quite satisfied with his lack of activities and
experience. Though he learned to read at an early age, at the age of 10 he was pulled out of school to
work full time at his father s store. Shortly later, he began to apprentice for his brother James at a
printing shop. James mistreated and beat Ben for several years, so finally, Ben ran away to
Philadelphia in 1723. Soon after this, Franklin traveled to London to purchase printing equipment, but
ended up staying there for a couple years. He returned to Philadelphia in 1726 and opened his own
printing shop. Upon his return, he also married his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Read, in 1730. Not

Heat Resistance of Endospores of Bacillus Pumilus
Heat resistance of endospores of Bacillus pumilus
Abstract
Spore suspension of Bacillus pumilus was inoculated into universal bottles containing sterile distilled
water in water baths at temperatures of 85°C, 90°C and 95°C. At specific time intervals, a sample was
removed and spread on nutrient agar plates. The number of colonies formed was used to determine the
D value and z value. The D value for 85°C is 64.1 minutes, 25.7 minutes for 90°C and 8.2 minutes for
95°C while the z value is 11.2°C.

Therefore, the key to success lies in alleviating these critical issues. Literature search reveals that up to

Boys And Girls Should Not Be On The Same Team Essay
No boys and girls should not be on the same team:
It may cause problems that people did not intend, such as: arguments between who is right and who is
wrong, there could be arguments between how the girls think the boys are stupid, and how boys think
the girls are weak and can t play on their team, and so on.
Boys and girls have differences in things like strength, smarts, endurance, etc. If there boys and girls
on a more physical sport team like football, for instance the boys could tend to be more aggressive
sometimes, they may hit way harder than they should and if say a girl gets hit that hard and since girls
are typically weaker than boys(not to say some women aren t strong) could result in serious injury,
same with boys as well, some girls may hit harder than they need to and injure a boy. Again this could
lead to more issues between whether or not girls and boys should be on the same team. If both genders
were on a team with all boys or girls, and matched with the same gender, it could be more fair in ...

But it could also be used as an excuse to be sexist against the other gender, and since they are most
likely in close proximity, for example a girl might make a false accusation against a boy, saying the
boy hit them, abused them and so on and sometimes with no evidence to prove this, the boy may get
kicked off the team, all because the girl lied about it just to get them off the team or something, but the
same could happen to girls as

The Face Of Insanity Or Pure Evil
Medea: The Face of Insanity or Pure Evil
In Medea by Euripides, an unfortunate tragedy arose from devastating circumstances, centralizing
around intense grief and rage. In the center of the horrific situation was Medea, who was the daughter
of King Aeetes. She was the former wife of Jason until he decided to abandon his family and duties as
the head of the household by marrying Glauce, the Princess of Corinth. She murdered her children,
Glauce, and Creon, the King of Corinth to satiate her overwhelming lust for blood and revenge.
Undeniably, Medea is the epitome of the phrase, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Her burning
desire for vengeance and destruction extended far beyond intense passion. Thus, leading to the
question: Is Medea, simply, the face of insanity or pure evil? Although her actions were horrific and
barbaric enough to be considered an ailment of insanity, the reality was that she was the devil
incarnate considering she strategically formulated a plan to achieve her demented agenda. Evidently,
Medea was not insane and did not commit the murder out of insanity, but pure evil, which is fully
crystal clear from her deranged actions and thoughts.
Medea is the poster child of an individual that is clearly evil. Even prior to the murders, she displayed
signs of pure wickedness and evil. For instance, Medea instigated the murder of King Pelias by
encouraging and manipulating his daughters to engage in patricide. Medea tricked Pelias daughters

Theme Of Weather In The Great Gatsby
Many great books use many different natural occurrences or things to symbolize themes, moods, a
meaning of the book, etc. The Great Gatsby is no exception, Fitzgerald uses many different methods
to blend the story into what it is, but one thing that he uses that might slip through the reader s mind is
weather. Fitzgerald uses weather throughout the book to set/show the mood of the chapter/scene.
Right from the start, Fitzgerald uses weather to set the tone for Nick. And so with the sunshine and the
great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar
conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer (Fitzgerald 4). Nick had just moved to
the East, looking to start a new life. It represents his high hopes that he has for his life ahead. He states
earlier that he was restless after the war, so he is very eager to achieve these goals he has in mind. It
also represents the coming changes in his life. Summer starts to come around right as he goes to Daisy
s house, something that will affect his life for years to come. It is no accident that summer comes right
as his life is about to change. Fitzgerald also uses a lot of weather to set the emotional tone when
Gatsby reunites with Daisy. He uses the rain in chapter five to represent the nervousness of Gatsby.
With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a
wire, and disappeared into the living room. It wasn t a bit funny. Aware of the loud beating of my own
heart I pulled the door to against the increasing rain (86).
A little earlier in the chapter, Gatsby also says that the rain is supposed to stop at four. Almost as if he
this trying to tell himself that he will stop being nervous once Daisy shows up, but contrary to that, the
rain intensifies, and so does Gatsby s signs of being nervous. But later in the chapter, Nick says that
the sun starts to shine again, and he mentions, While the rain continued it had seemed like the murmur
of their voices, rising and swelling a little now and then with gusts of emotion (88 89). In this part,
Fitzgerald blatantly uses the rain to describe that Gatsby was nervous. It is basically saying that

The Invention Essay
So You ve Just Come Up With A Million Dollar Idea Now What?
While there is no set formula on how a would be inventor can take their great idea from mind to
manufacturing, there are some things they must be aware of and some steps they simply must take as
they move forward. If you think you have one of those great ideas, set aside all celebrations for the
time being and start taking real action toward making the idea a productive and profitable reality. Be
warned, though: this isn t going to be easy.
1. Ask Yourself Some Serious Questions
It s very important to keep your feet on the ground, even if you feel you ve reinvented the wheel in

When talking to potential partners, you re likely to get more valuable feedback on setting up a
company, manufacturing, distribution and other important elements of a startup.
A second (third, fourth and beyond) opinion should provide you with affirmation that your idea has
value, beyond what you ve imagined thus far. These outside opinions help you to chisel your idea into
something with real world applicability. Also, be prepared for the naysayers, who, although
discouraging at first, can also give you useful information.
3. Analyze Development And Production Costs
It s one thing to create a homemade prototype, quite another to put it into real production. How much
is it going to cost to perfect your prototype enough to actually manufacture it? How much will it cost
to produce each unit and who can handle that for you? Ideas are typically modified in the development
stage, meaning your original idea may evolve into something different or even spawn two or more
spinoff ideas, equally valuable and worth pursuing.
Although the technical aspects of bringing an invention to the production stage are tedious and
challenging, this is a crucial stage for you and will determine the economic feasibility of moving
forward. You need to figure out who you can trust, where your startup capital is going to come from
and whether or not you should form some type of company now. Depending on your educational level

Standardized Terminologies In Nursing Practice
Applying Standardized Terminologies in Practice Hyperhemesis gravidarum is a condition in which
the pregnant woman experiences severe nausea and vomiting. Although the causes of hyperemesis
gravidarum are not well known; however, many believe that elevated blood level of human chorionic
gonadotopin (HCG) may be a contributing factor of this condition. Currently the cause of nausea and
vomiting in pregnancy is unknown, although there is strong evidence linking human chorionic
gonadotropin or estrogens as well as genetic susceptibility possibly mediated through the

Nursing terminologies also help nurses to plan care that reflects the patient s needs, anticipate these

from those of other disciplines. Thus, the standardization of nursing terminologies with documented
nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and patient outcomes is important to nursing practice
because it unifies the language among nurses and other healthcare providers, which will have a

Kabuki Theater Essay
Kabuki Theater
*No Works Cited
Kabuki Theater was created around the year 1600. It was almost around the same time that the English
began to form colonies on the American continent. The history of Kabuki is as long as the history of
the United States.
Kabuki was created by a shrine maiden named Okuni. Okuni was from Izumo Shrine. Her
performances in the rive beds of the ancient capital of Kyoto caused a sensation. Soon their scale
increased and a number of competing companies started.
Early Kabuki was much different from what is seen today. It was consisted mostly of large group
dances performed by women. Most of these women acted as prostitutes off stage. Finally the
government banned women from the stage in an effort to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also during this period that the close relationship between Kabuki and the Bunraku puppet
theater began. The two would continue to grow while influencing each other.
The decades after the Genroku period saw numerous cycles of creative periods followed by
refinement. In the early 18th century, the rise of skilled playwrights in the Bunraku puppet theater
helped it to deprive Kabuki of popularity for a time. I t was remarked by one observer that it seemed
as though there was no Kabuki. Actors responded by adapting puppet plays for the stage and creating
stylized movements to mimic the puppets themselves. The late 18th century saw a trend towards
realism and the switch of the cultural center from Kyoto and Osaka to Edo. One consequence of this
was the change of tastes in onnagata acting. While onnagata trained in Kyoto who had the soft, gentle
nature of that city had been valued before, now audiences preferred those who showed the strong pride
and nature of Edo women. An increasing audience desire for decadence as seen in the ghost plays and
beautification of murder scenes marked early 19th century.
The opening of Japan to the West in 1868 affected Kabuki and the rest of the country profoundly. Just
when it thought it was free from government restrictions; Kabuki was faced with the challenge to
adapt to the changing world. Actors like Ichikawa Danjuro IX tried to raise the

Should Be Avoided 13. What is the danger of flattery? The danger of flattery is that it is common that
powerful men become self absorbed, and wanting to defend yourself brings the danger of being

Causes Of The Missouri Compromise Of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 helped to mend the relationship between the north and south. All
the states in the Union were in an argument over what the new states should be free or slave states.
With the conflict steadily rising a congressman came up with a solution to alleviate the tension. This
compromise set the tone for the rest of the civil rights time period. It ended after holding peace for a
few decades. The Missouri Compromise of 1820 relieved the intensity of the problems between free

However, to balance out the political power, Maine, who had wanted to be its own state for some time
now, would be added as a free state. The second part of the compromise was that an imaginary line
would be drawn along the southern border of Missouri. This imaginary line would become the
dividing line between free and slave states in the North and South and be known as the 36° 30° line.
The North would not be allowed to have slaves, and the South would have slaves. Both sides were
okay with the Compromise because both sides benefitted from it. The Compromise was finally
approved by President James Monroe on March 6, 1820. The signing of this document change slavery
in the United States. The peace from this Compromise in the states lasted for nearly three decades.
The Compromise of 1820 changed a lot of things about new states entering the Union. With westward
movement being such a big deal during this time frame, it created a few complications. Starting out, in
theory, it was a good idea. However, All the new states would be divided into 2 factions based on their
beliefs on slavery. Where you lived determined what your view on slaves and how you felt about
slavery.
The Compromise only lasted a few decades before complications arose. At the start, a free state was
admitted for every slave state that was admitted, and vice versa. California violated this when they
were admitted as a free state in

How Does Longfellow s Use Of Figurative Language
Figurative language is a literary device employed by numerous writers which helps develop style. For
instance, in the poem Not My Bones by Marilyn Nelson, the author uses the figurative language such
as metaphors to describe a slaves belief on who you really are. Likewise, in his narrative poem Paul
Revere s Ride Henry Wadsworth Longfellow utilizes various types of figurative language to create
and enhance his style.
Early on in the poem Longfellow establishes his style through the use of personification. To illustrate,
when the speaker is describing a British owned warship docked on the Charlestown shore awaiting a
battle in the revolutionary war he/she tells the reader, each mast and spar/across the moon like a prison
bar... (Lines 20 21). Fitting the definition of a simile the ships mast and spar are compared to a prison
bar using the word like. Comparing components of the British war ships to a prison reminds the reader
that a war for the american colonist is inescapable just like prison is inescapable for an inmate.
Therefore, the use of stylistic techniques such as similes are exemplified through longfellows
description of the british war ships. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, as Paul Revere and his horse are racing across the north eastern states the speaker
describes to the reader how Revere protected the colonist by stating, And the spark struck out by that
steed in its flight (76). Adhering to the definition of an alliteration there is the repetition of the s sound.
The addition of this alliteration allows the reader to read through the poem more smoothly and aids in
a reader being able to remember the story of Paul Revere s midnight ride. Clearly, CLOSING

Violence In High School Sports Essay
Every athlete knows that playing sports comes with a price. A price of potentially destroying your
body and leaving you with lifelong aches and pains from playing the sport you loved as an adolescent.
This price is something many young people are willing to pay for the possibility of great reward.
Violence in High School sports can cause injuries because there is a lack of certified trainers available,
adolescents are undevelopment and their bodies are overused, and the violence can cause lifelong
injuries.
High school athletes are more susceptible to injuries due to a lack of recognition by coaches, trainers.
In the United States only 55% of athletes at secondary public school have access to a full time trainer,
while only 37% of those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an estimated thirty million children competing in sports and most of their bodies aren t ready
for it. Factors that contribute to this difference in vulnerability include: children have a larger surface
area to mass ratio, children have larger heads proportionately, children may be too small for protective
equipment, growing cartilage may be more vulnerable to stresses and children may not have the
complex motor skills needed for certain sports until after puberty (Adirim). There are many athletic
diseases that come from the overuse in young athletes such as severs (in the heal), Osgood schlatter
disease (in the knee), and little league elbow (in the elbow). All are very painful and the only thing
that can be done to fix it is simply rest. Little league elbow is inflammation to the growth plate of a
child s elbow due to repeated stress of throwing. Throwing a baseball is one of the most controversial
and debated topics in sports. It is the most explosive movement in sports because your arm is
accelerated and decelerated faster than any other movements, and pitchers do this one hundred times a
game, thousands and thousands times a season. Many doctors think people shouldn t be allowed to

Ciccone has identified in chapter 16 a wide range of medications that would treat Rheumatoid
Arthritis ranging from NSAIDs, Corticosteroids to DMARDs. According to Mayo Clinic, rheumatoid
arthritis is a chronic inflammation that not only affects the joints but other body systems such as the
lungs, the heart and even the skin (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2016). UpToDate has an even extensive
definition about the disease process. In the article, it highlighted that rheumatoid arthritis to be a
symmetric, inflammatory, peripheral polyarthritis of unknown etiology (Venables Maini, para. 1). In

The prevalence of the disease occurs in diverse races, culture, and different age groups. Although, it is

recognition of the disease will curb and control the disease process at the same time thwart any
deformities that will bring about disability to the individual. This can be accomplished through an
extensive medical history isolating the areas especially complaints of pain and swelling on the joints.
Laboratory work up is also critical to identify the specificities of the arthritis at the same time

Age Changes In Narcissism
The fatal contagion of sexting gadgets, twerking pop stars, and gilded trophies has poisoned the minds
and corrupted the morals of a promising youth. Their plastic minds have subconsciously appropriated
the lessening sense for discipline, the haste to know, the mad rush for wealth, and the reckless fashion
set by the media outlet. It s an old axiom that the kids these days are worse than ever dumb, entitled,
and out of control.
But wait a moment. According to collective data from different institutes, young adults in the U.S. are
actually far more straight laced than they were 20 years ago. General shenanigans such as alcohol and
drug use, teen pregnancy, violence, high school drop out rates have deep dived over the past 20 years.
Moreover, research on narcissism shows that there is no increase in narcissism in college students over
the last few decades. In contrast, age changes are more evident compared to generational changes in
narcissism . This leads to the conclusion that every generation is Generation Me, as every generation
of youth is more narcissistic than their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A tiny dosage of novelty is essential to our survival and success; we are are evolutionary predisposed

Lady Macbeth Is Evil
We all have regrets. Sometimes, there is a certain someone that lead us to this bad decision. In William
Shakespeare s, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, wife of noble warrior Macbeth, has indirectly influenced
nearly every cruel decision made thus far in the story. Whether it is killing a beloved king, or framing
an innocent person for the bloody crime, Lady Macbeth is behind everything. Lady Macbeth is a
ruthless and manipulative woman because she pressures her loved ones to commit horrible crimes,
betrays those who have been nothing but kind to her, and does not care who she ruins, as long as she
reaches her goal. Lady Macbeth is a monster because she practically forced spouse, a man she is
supposed to love, to kill one of his friends and idols. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along killing a generous man and forcing her husband to commit a violent crime, she is also willing to
ruin the lives of countless other innocent people. Throughout the entire assassination plot she wanted
to pin the murder on two guards. First, she got both guards so drunk that they would pass out and
Macbeth would be able to slip into Duncan s room without being noticed. Then, she stole their
daggers so they could be used as the murder weapon. Finally, she wanted to wipe Duncan s blood on
the guards and ends up killing them. When Macbeth returns from Duncan s chamber with the two
bloody daggers, Lady Macbeth says, Infirm of purpose! Give me the daggers. The sleeping and the
dead are but as pictures. Tis the eye of childhood that fears a painted devil. If he do bleed, I ll gild the
faces of the grooms withal, for it must seem their guilt (2.2.68 73). This quote depicts Lady Macbeth
as being cruel and insensitive. She is going to cover the faces of the unconscious guards with Duncan
s blood, which will make them look very guilty. Lady Macbeth is also more than willing to kill
innocent people just for Duncan s position of power. After she left MAcbeth to go frame the two
guards, she ended up killing them, making Macbeth tell Malcolm that he killed the two guards after

The North American Industry Classification System Essay
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal
statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and
publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy. (North American Industry
Classification System, n.d.). NAICS is a 2 through 6 digit hierarchical classification system, offering
five levels of detail. Each digit in the code is part of a series of progressively narrower categories, and
the more digits in the code signify greater classification detail. The first two digits name the economic
sector, the third digit designates the subsector, the fourth digit designates the industry group, the fifth
digit designates the NAICS industry, and the sixth digit designates the national industry. The 5 digit
NAICS code is the level at which there is comparability in code and definitions for most of the
NAICS sectors across the three countries participating in NAICS (the United States, Canada, and
Mexico). The 6 digit level allows for the United States, Canada, and Mexico each to have country
specific detail. A complete and valid NAICS code has six digits (North American Industry
Classification System, n.d.).

Michel Foucault s Theory Of Discipline And Punishment
Michel Foucault states in Discipline and Punishment that the Panopticon is a marvelous machine
which, whatever use one may wish to put it to, produces homogeneous effects of power (Foucault
188). Examining the evolution, physical characteristics, and psychological effects of the Panopticon
allows one to understand the mechanism by which the Panopticon produces power. Most inventions
develop through an evolutionary process while attempting to improve a situation or solve a problem.
Often, a prototype precedes a new structure or mechanism. Foucault uses the term projects to describe
two historical events and the social responses to resolve the problems associated with these events. He
suggests that the Panopticon developed from these two projects, the quarantine of the plague and
colonizing the lepers. Foucault describes how the Panopticon developed from a seventeenth century
order issued to deal with the scourge of the plague. First, a strict spatial partitioning: the closing of the
town and its outlying districts was mandated (Foucault 181). The town was further divided into
quarters, streets, and households. A syndic who was in the charge of an intendant supervised each
family in their residence. A considerable body of militia and guards at the gate ensured that the
magistrate over the town had absolute authority (Foucault 181). Only the syndics, intendants, and
guards moved about the streets (Foucault 181). They monitored and reported the

Harriet Tubman Abolishment
If to take a World History book, it may be clearly seen that the World History has a great number of
sad and happy moments, bright and dull pages, cruel and honorable personalities, as well as
magnificent and tragic periods. One of such tragic periods in the US History is the slave owning
system that lasted two and a half centuries. According to the Bible, a man is born free and should live
in the free world (Wellman, 2016). Nevertheless, it does not always go this way. Thus, an abolishment
movement has been appeared due to the fight for freedom against slavery. This movement had its own

Examples Of Naturalism In Ethan Frome
Naturalism is a complex literary movement which infiltrated many books in the 1800s. One book in
particular best shows the themes of Naturalism. The book, Ethan Frome, displays a multitude of
motifs which further the main ideas and themes of the story. Motifs are used to highlight the theme.
Due to the complex nature of the book, Ethan Frome written by Edith Wharton, motifs are used to
further the ideas and themes presented in this tale.
The first motif of the story is Gravestones. Gravestones symbolize the literal and metaphorical silence
in the story. Gravestones represent the literal silence as for years that quiet company had mocked his
restlessness, and that his desire for change and freedom...But now all desire for change had vanished,

Red means many ideas. For example that to Ethan, still in the rosy haze of his hour with Mattie, the
sight came with the intense precision of the last dream before waking (Wharton 22). Red seems to
represent the romantic feelings Ethan has for Mattie. Red symbolizes the interest he has in her. Red
also is meant to represent lust as that she wore her usual dress of darkish stuff, and there was no bow
at her neck; but through her hair she had run a streak of crimson ribbon. This trubute to the unusual
transformed and glorified her. She seemed to Ethan taller, fuller, more womanly in shape and motion (
Wharton 82). Ethan s feelings are that of a person in love. This motif furthers the theme of lack of
control, as Ethan has no control over the fact that he has these emotions. He is helpless to the power of
his emotions over him .
Lastly, for the third motif: Silence. Silence is this presiding force which causes significant tension and
pain in this story. Ethan feels relief after the mortal silence of his long imprisonment changed to
having Zeena s volubility was music to his ears . (Wharton 29). The silence is what caused Ethan to
think marrying a woman he does not love would be a good idea. Obviously, this was a horrible
decision he made due to the overarching nature of this

Literature Review On Social Movements
II. LITERATURE REVIEW Social movements (SMs) have been part of society s history and politics
for centuries. For some authors, they started with the French Revolution and have been constantly
rising and falling depending on the existent socio political climate (Reichmann Fernandez Buey,
1994). For Charles Tilly, the nineteenth laid the groundwork for the modern social movements of the
twentieth century (Tilly, 1998). Karl Marx also studied and developed the concept of SMs; he viewed
them as a means of achieving a deep social change through class conflict (Tarrow, 2011). Studied in
relationship to the rise of globalisation and social media, the expansion and modernisation of SMs has
become increasingly prominent in the academic literature of the last century. Accordingly,
Globalisation has made it possible for individuals to empower themselves through participation in
supranational organisations and international organisms that challenge governmental authority. As
evidenced by Manuel Castells, populations around the world are now able to come together to affect
change by expressing ideas and demonstrating in support of pressing issues (Castells, 2009). Chile has
been no exception to the trend of globalisation and has participated in and developed a number of
strong international social movements. The academic literature on social movements is vast. Since
there are many types of SMs that focus on different aspects of human life (economic, social, political

Investigating Cableways And Design An Efficient Vertical...
Summary
To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the hilltop
communities of Nepal.
My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical
engineering improvement for adaptation in developing countries. I identified that engineering, a topic
of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university students
was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for investigation
from the EngineersWithoutBorders Challenge, inspired the research question.
The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the nature
of cableways, influence of local topography, and constraints of existing technology. The majority of
my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on the web.
Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical critique of
the design outcome. Analysis of findings combined with creative thinking enabled a resolution of the
research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the conclusion of the
outcome report.

Trauma And Stressor Related Disorder
In the DSM 5, PTSD is listed under Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders. In order for a person to be
diagnosed with PTSD, they must meet a number of criterion the first one being exposure to actual or
threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence. If the person does not meet this criterion, they are
automatically exempt from being diagnosed with PTSD. This alone is incredibly restrictive, ignoring
many groups of traumatized victims including those with psychiatric diagnosis, or those being
removed from their home. Though many people can benefit from the treatments associated with
PTSD, its two dimensionality, or lack of reference to ongoing exposure has created a want for a new
diagnosis in the trauma realm. Herman s response to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In creating the opportunity for more individuals to be diagnosed with a post traumatic syndrome, C
PTSD creates a dignified title for individuals who have already endured so much. Victims of
childhood trauma account for a portion of this group. Abused children have to undergo a series of
adaptations in order to experience self preservation. The three major forms of adaptation include
elaboration of dissociative defenses, development of fragmented identity, and pathological regulation
of emotional states. When a child falls prey to an abuser, they cannot form inner representations of
safety. Not only do they become attached to strangers, but they also cling to their abusers. During this
time, Herman refers to fragmentation as becoming the central principle of personality organization .
Normal regulations of emotional states are also disrupted, resulting in dysphoria, chronic anxiety, and
chronic depression which can last into adulthood. Normal regulations of emotional states are also
affected by the elaboration of dissociative defenses. When an individual becomes too accustomed to
using dissociation as a defense mechanism, they can experience something referred to as annihilation
panic . When annihilation panic ensues, only extreme shocks to the system (such as self mutilation)
can help them separate themselves from dissociation. Though these adaptations are crucial for

The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence I have read Patrick Marshall s Artificial Intelligence: Can smart machines
replace humans? The article discusses the effect of AI on employment, war and human control, and
whether or not it can simulate human intelligence. It gives a background on how AI started, how the
military uses it, and how it is used in everyday civilian life. Two significant points are stated by the
author. First, AI has yet to be imbued with accurate human like nature. Second, the military has started
using AI and robotics to help reduce the number of human soldiers lost in wars. I believe AI has made
great strides since it was created and development should continue to advance the state of the net.
Although, there are consequences to every good idea. The first signs of AI appeared in the 50s after
Konrad Zuse invented the first programmable computer. At a conference in Dartmouth, scientists
decided to research how they could bring every type of learning into an advanced state so that a
machine can emulate it. The first robotic produced was a mobile robot called Shakey. When a
recession hit in the 70s, funding for AI projects was cut short. In the 90s AI research skyrocketed as
new software was developed and AI became smarter. Despite the military use of AI, there are many
around us in everyday life. Banks use AI to help find fraud credit cards. Security companies are using
it to identify facial features and spot criminal activity. Several car companies now use AI on

WHO DIED AND NAMED YOU SUPERIOR
What are some of the characteristics that makes humans a distinct species? According to National
Geographic s article, Minds of Their Own , higher capability human like characteristics include, good
memory, a grasp of grammar and symbols, self awareness, understanding others motives, imitating
others, and being creative (Morell). Because humans possess all these skills we automatically assume
we are the dominant race. What if we knew animals possessed these skills as well? Would we still
think we are superior? The fact is that, animals share and express human like capabilities.

Well surprise, animals have dialects too. According to the Huffington Post Science article, Human
Intelligence , killer whales share a complex language of their own and dolphins have individual names
just like [humans] based on whistle signals (Mosbergen). Similarly, Professor Con Slobodchikoff,
from Northern Arizona University, has been studying and recording the calls of the Gunnison s prairie
dog for three decades (Edwards). Based off of these recordings many other scientists have discovered
that the evolved complex language of the prairie dogs contain varying numbers of frequency
modulations, barks, squeals and squeaks, and each animal has unique tonal qualities (Edwards). Not
only have animals established different dialects, like humans, animals speak and understand extremely
complicated speaking patterns that humans have failed to notice on a daily basis.
Scientists recognize specific skills as key signs of high cognitive abilities: they include...self
awareness amongst many other variables (Gaertner). Self awareness is the pivot point upon which all
development depends (Craig). And without self awareness there is no way to anchor your journey, no
way to orient yourself, no way of knowing if you are losing or finding your way (Craig). Clearly being
self aware is extremely important to the development and livelihood of the human race. It s such an
important trait that all humans are taught to inherit it

My First Ride At Night
It was eleven o clock at night. The rain showered my face as I ran through dirt and gravel towards my
step father s familiar police car, and with each step I took, rain water splashed in every direction. I
hurriedly jumped into the lifelessly black passenger seat of the police car. This was my first time
sitting a cruiser, and it was much more petite than I had expected. Studying the inside of the cruiser, I
noticed that the interior of the car was entirely the blackest of black, completely colorless and boring. I
was eager to go on my first ride along. I could not help but to imagine what I may witness. Although I
knew the chances of something exciting happening were slim, I held on to that miniscule chance of
having an exciting night. My step father, Andy, jumped into the driver seat of his police car, which
appeared to be quite sizable compared to the passenger seat that I resided in. He turned on the
computer that rested in between he and I as I glanced over at the computer as curiosity had struck
about what was on it. There was an assortment of letters and numbers; I had not the slightest clue as to
what they meant. The only thing I knew, was that the assortment was a series of police codes. Andy
informed me that the first thing he does, at the beginning of each shift, is to get gas because he is not
allowed to get bellow a half of a tank for safety reasons. As we drove to a Duchess Shop, I looked out

The Development Of The Fisheries And Tourism On The...
The development of the fisheries and the tourist trade, writes Connie Chiang in Shaping the Shoreline:
Fisheries and Tourism on the Monterey Coast, illuminates the deeply entangled social and
environmental histories that together transformed Monterey through time. Thus the central
contribution of Chiang s book is illuminating the intersection of social and environmental history from
the perspective of an environmental history. The environmental story deals with the fisheries,
canneries, and eventual aquarium celebrating the environment and Monterey s past. Central to the
social story are the conflicts and interactions between people of different gender, class, race, and
ethnicity. While Chiang beautifully intersects the two historical subfields, attention to the intersection
of social categories was lacking. Throughout the book, there were brief moments of intersectional
analysis that greatly contributed to the text. However, these were few and far between. I demonstrate
that had Chiang used the rich intersectional understanding of society on the Monterey more often, the
book would have been greatly strengthened. Moments where Chiang does acknowledge the
intersecting identities of Monterey inhabitants and visitors help to strengthen her book. The moment
where this first appears is in her discussion of Chinese immigrants to Monterey. Working class women
of color experienced a combination of racism and misogyny unique to their social position. A travel

The Pros And Cons Of Dental Amalgams
Professor Kostelecky, before starting this paper I didn t have the slightest idea what an amalgam was
or why it causes so much controversy in the realm of dentistry. The controversy originates from the
material that primarily makes up amalgams; that material is mercury. Now that this debate has
commenced, dentists, scientists, and corporate organizations everywhere are arguing whether the use
of amalgams should be banned or should remain a growing practice. Because I plan to study dentistry
in the future I figured this would be a good topic to prepare me for my future education. Before I
discuss the three main points of view regarding amalgams, I want to give you some of the basic
background information. Dental amalgams are a type of filling used to fill cavities caused by decay in
the teeth. Amalgams are not the only type of filling offered by dentists; composite resin, cast gold,
ceramics, and glass ionomer are also used, but are not used near as much. Amalgams are the most
popular filling material and it has been this way since they were first introduced back in the 1800 s.
Each year billions of people invest in amalgams because they are long lasting, cheap, and durable, but
many researchers believe they could be detrimental to your health due to the main ingredient mercury
Amalgams are a mixture of metals; 50% is composed of mercury and the other 50% is composed of an
alloy, which in this case, is silver copper and tin. The problem with using mercury in amalgams is

  • 2. For My Second Practicum, I Wrote Two Lesson Plans Because For my second practicum, I wrote two lesson plans because I wanted to allow my student to choose what book he wanted to read. I planned a shared reading lesson over The Story of Henny Penny by Richard Carson and an interactive reading lesson over I Think I Forgot by Mercer Mayer. Planning for two different books was not difficult, but I had to keep in mind that my student was only going to have the opportunity to read one of the books, and in the end, my student chose to read The Story of Henny Penny. For this shared reading lesson, I followed the steps for a shared reading by Gail E. Tompkins (2014). I had to adjust and adapt the steps slightly because I only see my student once a week for forty minutes which means I don t have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reread the story. 5. Continue the process. 6. Students read independently. If I had more time or saw my student more frequently, I would make sure to include these steps during a shared reading lesson. After I planned the shared reading portion of the lesson, I planned a short writing activity where my student would have the opportunity to write down the three main events from the story. The teaching part of this lesson went in a totally different direction than I had planned. After the picture walk, my student showed a deep interest in trying to read the book out loud on his own, and I made the decision to let my student give the book a try. Since this book was a level above what my student s level, I figured that after a page or so he would want me to take over the reading. That is not what happened though. My student read the entire book on his own with minimal error! This slight change in my lesson plan meant that I was no longer teaching a shared reading lesson, but rather a guided reading lesson. After my student finished reading, we proceeded with the lesson I had planned. We discussed the story, what happened, what plot was, and then the plot of this story. Then he used the story cards to retell the story. I labeled clothes pins with numbers one through six and had them on a piece of yarn to symbolize that the events on the card happened in order to form a whole story. After that we moved on to the writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Oversexualization And Objectification Of Women The Oversexualization and Objectification of Women On all platforms of media, women and even young girls are oversexualized; thus leading to men viewing women as no more than breasts, vaginas, legs, or any other body part they prefer. Even in current television shows, movies, comic books, and advertisements, women are still depicted as sexual objects, which can damage a woman s confidence. The oversexualization of women s bodies can degrade a young woman s confidence, and when girls try to boost confidence by dressing or acting like the women they see in the media, they are reprimanded for it. Girls cannot be blamed for their sexualization; they are just emulating what they see in the media. On television and in movies, women are often portrayed as the love interest for the main male character or the succubus that tries to gain the main character s love through temptation. Most the women depicted in the romances are white, thin, and busty. Often the attractive female lead has a best friend who is deemed overweight and never receives any romantic interactions. The only goal the female character has is to gain the attention of the main character. In other movies and television shows when the female character is not considered attractive, she must go through a complete makeover before her love interest even notices her. Once the makeover is complete, the girl s love interest is completely stupefied with her beauty and instantly falls in love with her. This plot device leads ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prerogative remedies are remedies which if not always are designed from the first for the control of governmental duties and powers, have long been used for the purpose especially[2]. The applicant must have locus stand that is he must have sufficient interest in the matter he is applying for lastly there should be no other appropriate remedy available to the applicant. In this problem the conditions are present as Ronaldo has demanded the performance for the renewal of license and the Director of Trade refused and he was not been given notice as noted in the case of Palm Beach Inn Ltd and Another v. Commissioner for Tourism and Two Others[8]. Also Mr. Toure was having a duty to perform on him thus to grant license. This duty was not of an imperative nature as the case of considering the application of license and not discretion as per the case of Re Mohamed Aslam Khan[9]. Also Ronaldo has a interest as he is an aggrieved person thus he has a locus standi as per the case of Alfred Lakaru v. Town Director Arusha[10]. Lastly there is no other appropriate remedy as the right to appeal is not indicated in the problem. Reasons in which Ronaldo can base in his application are violation of the rules of natural justice as per the case of Simeoni Manyaki v. Institute of Financial Management[11] Also there was irrelevant consideration as per the case of Fernandez v. Kericho Liquor Licensing Board. Error of jurisdiction as per the case of R v. ... Benjamin Franklin It was quotes like this that pegged Benjamin Franklin as the face of America during pre Revolutionary times. Shortly later, he began to apprentice for his brother James at a printing shop. James mistreated and beat Ben for several years, so finally, Ben ran away to Philadelphia in 1723. The Face Of Insanity Or Pure Evil Medea: The Face of Insanity or Pure Evil In Medea by Euripides, an unfortunate tragedy arose from devastating circumstances, centralizing around intense grief and rage. In the center of the horrific situation was Medea, who was the daughter of King Aeetes. She was the former wife of Jason until he decided to abandon his family and duties as the head of the household by marrying Glauce, the Princess of Corinth. She murdered her children, Glauce, and Creon, the King of Corinth to satiate her overwhelming lust for blood and revenge. Undeniably, Medea is the epitome of the phrase, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Her burning desire for vengeance and destruction extended far beyond intense passion. Thus, leading to the question: Is Medea, simply, the face of insanity or pure evil? Although her actions were horrific and barbaric enough to be considered an ailment of insanity, the reality was that she was the devil incarnate considering she strategically formulated a plan to achieve her demented agenda. Evidently, Medea was not insane and did not commit the murder out of insanity, but pure evil, which is fully crystal clear from her deranged actions and thoughts. Medea is the poster child of an individual that is clearly evil. Even prior to the murders, she displayed signs of pure wickedness and evil. Theme Of Weather In The Great Gatsby Many great books use many different natural occurrences or things to symbolize themes, moods, a meaning of the book, etc. The Great Gatsby is no exception, Fitzgerald uses many different methods to blend the story into what it is, but one thing that he uses that might slip through the reader s mind is weather. Fitzgerald uses weather throughout the book to set/show the mood of the chapter/scene. Right from the start, Fitzgerald uses weather to set the tone for Nick. And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer (Fitzgerald 4). Nick had just moved to the East, looking to start a new life. It represents his high hopes that he has for his life ahead. He states earlier that he was restless after the war, so he is very eager to achieve these goals he has in mind. It also represents the coming changes in his life. Summer starts to come around right as he goes to Daisy s house, something that will affect his life for years to come. It is no accident that summer comes right as his life is about to change. Fitzgerald also uses a lot of weather to set the emotional tone when Gatsby reunites with Daisy. He uses the rain in chapter five to represent the nervousness of Gatsby. With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a wire, and disappeared into the living room. It wasn t a bit funny. Aware of the loud beating of my own heart I pulled the door to against the increasing rain (86). A little earlier in the chapter, Gatsby also says that the rain is supposed to stop at four. Almost as if he this trying to tell himself that he will stop being nervous once Daisy shows up, but contrary to that, the rain intensifies, and so does Gatsby s signs of being nervous. But later in the chapter, Nick says that the sun starts to shine again, and he mentions, While the rain continued it had seemed like the murmur of their voices, rising and swelling a little now and then with gusts of emotion (88 89). In this part, Fitzgerald blatantly uses the rain to describe that Gatsby was nervous. It is basically saying that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examining the evolution, physical characteristics, and psychological effects of the Panopticon allows one to understand the mechanism by which the Panopticon produces power. Most inventions develop through an evolutionary process while attempting to improve a situation or solve a problem. Often, a prototype precedes a new structure or mechanism. Foucault uses the term projects to describe two historical events and the social responses to resolve the problems associated with these events. He suggests that the Panopticon developed from these two projects, the quarantine of the plague and colonizing the lepers. Foucault describes how the Panopticon developed from a seventeenth century order issued to deal with the scourge of the plague. First, a strict spatial partitioning: the closing of the town and its outlying districts was mandated (Foucault 181). The town was further divided into quarters, streets, and households. A syndic who was in the charge of an intendant supervised each family in their residence. This trubute to the unusual transformed and glorified her. She seemed to Ethan taller, fuller, more womanly in shape and motion ( Wharton 82). Ethan s feelings are that of a person in love. This motif furthers the theme of lack of control, as Ethan has no control over the fact that he has these emotions. He is helpless to the power of his emotions over him . Ethan feels relief after the mortal silence of his long imprisonment changed to having Zeena s volubility was music to his ears . (Wharton 29). The silence is what caused Ethan to think marrying a woman he does not love would be a good idea. Obviously, this was a horrible decision he made due to the overarching nature of this ... • 28. Literature Review On Social Movements II. LITERATURE REVIEW Social movements (SMs) have been part of society s history and politics for centuries. For some authors, they started with the French Revolution and have been constantly rising and falling depending on the existent socio political climate (Reichmann Fernandez Buey, 1994). For Charles Tilly, the nineteenth laid the groundwork for the modern social movements of the twentieth century (Tilly, 1998). Karl Marx also studied and developed the concept of SMs; he viewed them as a means of achieving a deep social change through class conflict (Tarrow, 2011). Studied in relationship to the rise of globalisation and social media, the expansion and modernisation of SMs has become increasingly prominent in the academic literature of the last century. Accordingly, Globalisation has made it possible for individuals to empower themselves through participation in supranational organisations and international organisms that challenge governmental authority. As evidenced by Manuel Castells, populations around the world are now able to come together to affect change by expressing ideas and demonstrating in support of pressing issues (Castells, 2009). Chile has been no exception to the trend of globalisation and has participated in and developed a number of strong international social movements. The academic literature on social movements is vast. Since there are many types of SMs that focus on different aspects of human life (economic, social, political and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Investigating Cableways And Design An Efficient Vertical... Summary To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the hilltop communities of Nepal. My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical engineering improvement for adaptation in developing countries. I identified that engineering, a topic of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university students was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for investigation from the EngineersWithoutBorders Challenge, inspired the research question. The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the nature of cableways, influence of local topography, and constraints of existing technology. The majority of my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on the web. Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical critique of the design outcome. Analysis of findings combined with creative thinking enabled a resolution of the research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the conclusion of the outcome report. Evaluation Evaluation of Research Processes Interviews Primary information was obtained by conducting interviews. I underestimated how effective this process would be until I conducted one. Discussing my project with an experienced manufacturer gave practical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Trauma And Stressor Related Disorder In the DSM 5, PTSD is listed under Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders. In order for a person to be diagnosed with PTSD, they must meet a number of criterion the first one being exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence. If the person does not meet this criterion, they are automatically exempt from being diagnosed with PTSD. This alone is incredibly restrictive, ignoring many groups of traumatized victims including those with psychiatric diagnosis, or those being removed from their home. Though many people can benefit from the treatments associated with PTSD, its two dimensionality, or lack of reference to ongoing exposure has created a want for a new diagnosis in the trauma realm. Herman s response to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In creating the opportunity for more individuals to be diagnosed with a post traumatic syndrome, C PTSD creates a dignified title for individuals who have already endured so much. Victims of childhood trauma account for a portion of this group. Abused children have to undergo a series of adaptations in order to experience self preservation. The three major forms of adaptation include elaboration of dissociative defenses, development of fragmented identity, and pathological regulation of emotional states. When a child falls prey to an abuser, they cannot form inner representations of safety. Not only do they become attached to strangers, but they also cling to their abusers. During this time, Herman refers to fragmentation as becoming the central principle of personality organization . Normal regulations of emotional states are also disrupted, resulting in dysphoria, chronic anxiety, and chronic depression which can last into adulthood. Normal regulations of emotional states are also affected by the elaboration of dissociative defenses. When an individual becomes too accustomed to using dissociation as a defense mechanism, they can experience something referred to as annihilation panic . When annihilation panic ensues, only extreme shocks to the system (such as self mutilation) can help them separate themselves from dissociation. Though these adaptations are crucial for ... • 32. The Impact Of Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence I have read Patrick Marshall s Artificial Intelligence: Can smart machines replace humans? The article discusses the effect of AI on employment, war and human control, and whether or not it can simulate human intelligence. It gives a background on how AI started, how the military uses it, and how it is used in everyday civilian life. Two significant points are stated by the author. First, AI has yet to be imbued with accurate human like nature. Second, the military has started using AI and robotics to help reduce the number of human soldiers lost in wars. I believe AI has made great strides since it was created and development should continue to advance the state of the net. Although, there are consequences to every good idea. The first signs of AI appeared in the 50s after Konrad Zuse invented the first programmable computer. At a conference in Dartmouth, scientists decided to research how they could bring every type of learning into an advanced state so that a machine can emulate it. The first robotic produced was a mobile robot called Shakey. When a recession hit in the 70s, funding for AI projects was cut short. In the 90s AI research skyrocketed as new software was developed and AI became smarter. Despite the military use of AI, there are many around us in everyday life. Banks use AI to help find fraud credit cards. Security companies are using it to identify facial features and spot criminal activity. Several car companies now use AI on ... • 33. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift WHO DIED AND NAMED YOU SUPERIOR What are some of the characteristics that makes humans a distinct species? According to National Geographic s article, Minds of Their Own , higher capability human like characteristics include, good memory, a grasp of grammar and symbols, self awareness, understanding others motives, imitating others, and being creative (Morell). Because humans possess all these skills we automatically assume we are the dominant race. What if we knew animals possessed these skills as well? Would we still think we are superior? The fact is that, animals share and express human like capabilities. Authors like Jonathan Swift have used their works to shine a light on the similarities between humans and animals. In Part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well surprise, animals have dialects too. According to the Huffington Post Science article, Human Intelligence , killer whales share a complex language of their own and dolphins have individual names just like [humans] based on whistle signals (Mosbergen). Similarly, Professor Con Slobodchikoff, from Northern Arizona University, has been studying and recording the calls of the Gunnison s prairie dog for three decades (Edwards). Based off of these recordings many other scientists have discovered that the evolved complex language of the prairie dogs contain varying numbers of frequency modulations, barks, squeals and squeaks, and each animal has unique tonal qualities (Edwards). Not only have animals established different dialects, like humans, animals speak and understand extremely complicated speaking patterns that humans have failed to notice on a daily basis. Scientists recognize specific skills as key signs of high cognitive abilities: they include...self awareness amongst many other variables (Gaertner). Self awareness is the pivot point upon which all development depends (Craig). And without self awareness there is no way to anchor your journey, no way to orient yourself, no way of knowing if you are losing or finding your way (Craig). Clearly being self aware is extremely important to the development and livelihood of the human race. It s such an important trait that all humans are taught to inherit it ... • 35. My First Ride At Night It was eleven o clock at night. The rain showered my face as I ran through dirt and gravel towards my step father s familiar police car, and with each step I took, rain water splashed in every direction. I hurriedly jumped into the lifelessly black passenger seat of the police car. This was my first time sitting a cruiser, and it was much more petite than I had expected. Studying the inside of the cruiser, I noticed that the interior of the car was entirely the blackest of black, completely colorless and boring. I was eager to go on my first ride along. I could not help but to imagine what I may witness. Although I knew the chances of something exciting happening were slim, I held on to that miniscule chance of having an exciting night. My step father, Andy, jumped into the driver seat of his police car, which appeared to be quite sizable compared to the passenger seat that I resided in. He turned on the computer that rested in between he and I as I glanced over at the computer as curiosity had struck about what was on it. There was an assortment of letters and numbers; I had not the slightest clue as to what they meant. The only thing I knew, was that the assortment was a series of police codes. Andy informed me that the first thing he does, at the beginning of each shift, is to get gas because he is not allowed to get bellow a half of a tank for safety reasons. As we drove to a Duchess Shop, I looked out of the window, studying the cars that we passed. Each car ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Development Of The Fisheries And Tourism On The... The development of the fisheries and the tourist trade, writes Connie Chiang in Shaping the Shoreline: Fisheries and Tourism on the Monterey Coast, illuminates the deeply entangled social and environmental histories that together transformed Monterey through time. Thus the central contribution of Chiang s book is illuminating the intersection of social and environmental history from the perspective of an environmental history. The environmental story deals with the fisheries, canneries, and eventual aquarium celebrating the environment and Monterey s past. Central to the social story are the conflicts and interactions between people of different gender, class, race, and ethnicity. While Chiang beautifully intersects the two historical subfields, attention to the intersection of social categories was lacking. Throughout the book, there were brief moments of intersectional analysis that greatly contributed to the text. However, these were few and far between. I demonstrate that had Chiang used the rich intersectional understanding of society on the Monterey more often, the book would have been greatly strengthened. Moments where Chiang does acknowledge the intersecting identities of Monterey inhabitants and visitors help to strengthen her book. The moment where this first appears is in her discussion of Chinese immigrants to Monterey. Working class women of color experienced a combination of racism and misogyny unique to their social position. A travel writer named M. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Pros And Cons Of Dental Amalgams Professor Kostelecky, before starting this paper I didn t have the slightest idea what an amalgam was or why it causes so much controversy in the realm of dentistry. The controversy originates from the material that primarily makes up amalgams; that material is mercury. Now that this debate has commenced, dentists, scientists, and corporate organizations everywhere are arguing whether the use of amalgams should be banned or should remain a growing practice. Because I plan to study dentistry in the future I figured this would be a good topic to prepare me for my future education. Before I discuss the three main points of view regarding amalgams, I want to give you some of the basic background information. Dental amalgams are a type of filling used to fill cavities caused by decay in the teeth. Amalgams are not the only type of filling offered by dentists; composite resin, cast gold, ceramics, and glass ionomer are also used, but are not used near as much. Amalgams are the most popular filling material and it has been this way since they were first introduced back in the 1800 s. Each year billions of people invest in amalgams because they are long lasting, cheap, and durable, but many researchers believe they could be detrimental to your health due to the main ingredient mercury Amalgams are a mixture of metals; 50% is composed of mercury and the other 50% is composed of an alloy, which in this case, is silver copper and tin. The problem with using mercury in amalgams is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
