Masquerade Concert, Halloween Spooktacular, Arranged By...
Out of the three pieces that the Artiste Orchestra prepared to the Masquerade Concert, Halloween
Spooktacular, arranged by Bob Phillips, was definitely the hardest piece. Not only was it long, but
it was fast and had passages with difficult fingerings. By no means have I perfected this piece, but I
used several different practice techniques to help me master the fast tempoand difficult fingerings.
The technique that I used the most was probably using a metronome. I would start by playing a
passage very slowly, probably around 80 100 beats per minute depending on the passage. Then,
once I had mastered the passage at that speed, I would increase the tempo by 10 beats per minute
and practice the passage at that speed until I had mastered it. Then, I would increase the tempo
another 10 beats per minute and repeat the same process. I would continue this same process until I
had mastered that section at tempo. It was at these slower speeds that I could really focus on the
little things, such as intonation, rhythm, dynamics and articulation because by focusing on these
elements as slow speeds, it would be easier to bring them into the piece at faster speeds. Another
practice technique I attempted to use to practice Halloween Spooktacular was playing along with
a recorded version of the piece. This is a technique I used for several pieces last year because I
find it helpful to hear all the parts of a piece, not just my own. Unfortunately, after one or two
attempts to play along

Research Paper On Ford Mustang
The Ford mustang
Lee Iococca had asked his team to create a new 2 seat vehicle. He needed a car that would give
all the other European cars and the American Chevrolet Corvette a run for their money. Iococca
was the General manager of Ford. Donald Frey and his design team formed the project which
was called the T 5. Lee was anxious about this car because his last car, The Ford Thunderbird had
not been quite as much of a success. Lee Iococca did not enjoy the work that was happening and
hired Davis Ash and his design team who renamed the project the Mustang . The mustang became
a big hit and gave credit to Davis and his team for the succes.

Health Care Budget Paper Financial Management means planning, organizing, directing and
controlling the financial activities such as procurement and utilization of funds for an organization.
It means applying general management principles to financial resources of the enterprise or

in current assets is also a part of investment decisions called working capital decisions. Financial

Linking the two gives all managers and employees a clearer understanding of strategic goals. This
understanding, in turn, leads to greater support for goals, better coordination of tactics, and,
ultimately, to stronger companywide performance. Companies that apply best practices find that
communication plays an important role in creating this link.
Design procedures that allocate resources strategically: Within any company, competition for
resources is inevitable. Every function and business unit needs funding for both capital and
operating expenses usually in excess of the actual resources available. This makes it critically
important for companies to design procedures so that resources are allocated to support key
strategies. Organizations that adopt best practices find that resource allocation is part science, part
art. Fortunately, following certain best practices leads to better results. One such practice is
coordinating the review of operating and capital budgets. Doing this gives managers insight into the
ways in which changes in one budget affect the other.
Tie incentives to performance measures other than meeting budget targets: Many organizations still
evaluate managers primarily on how closely they hit budget

Essay On The Color Of The Physician s Skin
I have seen several occasions online specifically where the nurse or doctor is a person of color
and the patient outright refuses to be seen or touched by them simply because of the color of their
skin. In my opinion, this is a form of anchoring simply because the patient is taking a small amount
of information, the color of the physicians skin without looking at their work experience or
certifications. The specific issue I was referencing pertain to biases regarded the patients being
treated as incompetent because of the color of their skin and a doctor simply began over taking a
patient because the assumption was he knew better than the patients which might be true however,
doing so disrespected their wishes. Schroeder, elaborated on... Show more content on

Normally what is the age demographic of people in this profession? Yes, people should be smart
enough to treat every situation as different however, that is not always the case everyone has
biases. Jill Suttie expanded on these ideas directly pertaining to teachers however, they can
apply to almost any situation. (2016) The first step is admitting you have certain biases or
ideologizes pertain to certain groups of people that you simply don t apply to others. The second
step is trying to view someone else s perspective because at the end of the day they have feelings
just like you. Prating kind affirmations is also ideal don t go into any situation assuming the worst
when you don t have all the facts! (Suttie, 2016). Another form of bias that individuals might
generally practice is assuming you already know the answer with seeing all the variables. This
tends to happen when an individual becomes complacent. For example, if the flu is going around
and a child presents some of the symptoms if the physician was experiencing tunnel vision they
would assume the patient had the flu and not something more serious like meningitis. Or most
people that I ve come across right off women who are pregnant with their first child simply because
every illness, or ailment warrants a doctor s visit. So, if you assume a pregnant first time mom is
being difficult or hysterical and you write her off you could be sending someone home who needs
help. Arability

Reflections On Barron And Kenny
Reflections on Barron Kenny s 1986 article The Moderator Mediator Variable Distinction in Social
Psychological Research: Conceptual, Strategic, and Statistical Considerations
The relationships between independent and dependent variables can be very complex. Moderation
and mediation is one way to make sense of this complexity, but add a level of complexity of their
own. Due to this complexity, psychological researchers can be unclear on the differences of the
terms and use them in an inaccurate and misleading fashion, indicating that a moderation is a
mediation and a mediation is a moderation. The authors make the differences clear through
explaining that a moderator allows for changing direction or strength of relationship, while ... Show

A hypothesis might read that the relationship between self kindness and depression is accounted
for in part by self kindness leading to more resilience which leads to less depression. This
mediation is different than than a recent moderation effect in another study where level of
perceived social support acts as a moderator on the relationship between a participant s level of
perceived stress on the previous day and their pain level on the following day. If a participant
has more social support, the relationship between their previous day level of perceived stress and
current day pain level is reduced compared to if they have less perceived social support. This
seems to be obviously a moderator rather than a mediator because level of perceived social
support is changing the slope of the regression line. The relationship between the independent or
predictor variable and the dependent or outcome variable is stronger or weaker depending on the
level of the mediator. It is also possible for the relationship to change direction depending on the
mediator. This seems to further separate moderator from mediator as level of a mediator would not
change the relationship between the predictor and

Oso Logos
I would like to address the lack of partnership with the Institute for Faith and Learning. This issue
has already been discussed at length with Dr. Kevin Jackson and a compromise had been reached.
As far as we understood, the partnership with the Institute for Faith and Learning was suggested as
a form of oversight. It is understandable that Baylor has no interest in condoning a problematically
radical or heretical religious group. Oso Logos is by no means such a group but we understand that
precautions must be taken.
The problem with such a partnership is that it does not mesh well with our eventual goals. Once
we have proven through a few years of success that our organization can be a positive addition to
student life, we hope to reconnect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just because they are in S.T.E.M. departments does limit there knowledge and experience. Just for
example, our faculty advisor Dr. Keith Shubert is an ordained Baptist minister!
That being said, we are willing to look for individuals from a broader ranger or departments to
join our Advisory Board. There are some individuals who have already expressed interest in our
group. Two examples are Dr. Francis Beckworth from the philosophy department and Professor
James Wren from the Baylor Law School.
Although it is important not to underestimate the breadth and width of the knowledge and
wisdom currently present on our Faculty board, we would like to expand that further as
opportunities allow. Practically speaking, there is a limit to how many faculty members can be
on an advisory board. Adding two more may be possible but we feel that beyond that, the board
may become overcrowded. We want to respect the time each of these individuals dedicates to the
group, not waste it by having too many advisors. We would appreciate you suggestions on finding
the balance between a diverse group and an oversized crowd.
We hope we adequately addressed your questions. Please let us know if we need to further clarify

You Never Thought You Had to Think to Count
It was after taking the 2nd MOEMS (Math Olympiad Elementary and Middle School) that I
heard this phrase from my school s math coach. We had sat and taken this test for 26 minutes,
and then afterwards ALWAYS talked about the problems. It came up when looking at a problem
that went somewhat like this: Each student in an art class is given 48 cubes that measure 1cm x
1cm x 1cm. No students make the same design. What is the largest possible amount of students in
that class? I was so close! I answered eight, when in fact, the answer was nine! Everything was

one might think. There is algebra, and calculus, and... and... and...! Yes, but there is also counting
in other base systems. Ever heard of that? This is page 10 of this chapter! You can count in any
base system at all. Almost everyone uses base system ten. Hypothetically speaking, if you were to
say I want to count in base system three! You tell you friend you are going to count to seven so
they know when to start the race. The number seven in base system three is twenty one. So you
would count like this: 1, 2, 10, 11, 12, 20, 21! When you are about to say three, the tens digit
goes up one. The only possible units digits when counting in base three are 0, 1, and 2. Here is
how you figure it out using a quick shortcut. Three goes into seven twice (2_) with one remainder,
so it turns into 21. It seems pretty simple, but in reality, it is not.
Counting began with the simple action of putting marks on a bone. Numbers, and counting,
began about 4,000 BC in Sumeria one of the earliest civilizations. Also, algorithm I guess you
could say; started with chickens...? Well, not really. Their method of counting began as a series
of tokens. [...] If a man had five chickens he was given five tokens. When he traded or killed one of
his chickens, one of his tokens was removed. It also seems like the people who

Executive Summary
This report aims to analyze and attempt to reduce Logan airport s delay problem in the year 2000.
The airport was experiencing unacceptable numbers of delays due to three main problems: 1)
Weather conditions, 2) Mix of aircrafts, and 3) Overscheduling. Under normal weather, the three
runway configuration is sufficient to handle incoming and outgoing planes. However, the delay
problem at Logan is the most acute during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Overscheduling
Although overscheduling was not considered a problem at Logan Airport when the case was
written, it was proved to be a potential problem in the future as the number of passengers that use
Logan Airport increases. Since 90% of the flights started or ended there, the airport has little slack
to recover from delays because the flights arrived uniformly over each hour, unlike other airports
with more staggered schedule. In general, increasing the capacity of the airport can solve the flight
delay problem at Logan Airport.
In order to help Logan Airport reduce flight delays, four alternatives will be examined in the
report: 1) Regional solution, 2) New runway, 3) Peak period pricing (PPP), and 4) The
combination of new runway and PPP. Recommendations will be provided after analytical
discussions of each alternative.
Assumptions and Facts
This report is based on several assumptions drawn from the facts outline in the Logan case. First,
we will assume that Logan airport operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Furthermore, it
is assumed that the processing system is a single phase service process, which means that each
server (runway) performs the same set of activities on one customer (aircraft) at a time. Each
aircraft is processed in the first come first serve (FCFS) order. Since 90%

Analysis of Robert Graves’ Story the Shout
Robert Graves story The Shout represents as a part of the book Collected Short Stories, which
was written in 1924. This is the story in which reality and unreality are closely interwoven. Even
though, this story gives a reader the creeps, it makes to think about very important things as love,
soul and fear of death.
The Shout is the story within frames of the story. That is, the narrator retells a story he heard from
Crossley in the Asylum at a cricket match. We do not know who is the narrator; therefore, we
percept the narrator as the author s second self . Thus we should believe the narrator and see the
story about Crossley from his point of view.
From the narrator we get know that his interlocutor, Crossley, is insane and claims that... Show

Moreover, how to explain the fact that during the clinical death many people feel like the soul is
leaving the body, and they may have a look at themselves from the another side, or see the dead
relatives, or see the wonderful and pleasant light. Even though this process cannot be clearly
explained by medicine, with Graves explanation of the soul whereabouts these visions are
impossible.
Why did the author describe souls as the stones? Rachel says that there may be more sense in a
stone, more sensibility, more sensitivity, more sensibleness, than in many men and women .
Probably Graves wanted to point out that such a sensible notion as human s soul is becoming more
rough and crueler. Nonetheless, human s soul is becoming more vulnerable. Graves emphasizes it
by the braking of the stone which holds Charles soul.
Another instance of using symbols in this story is the horror shout which can be produced by
Charles. As I understand, the main idea is that the shout is the synonym to death. People are
afraid of death; however, they always were interested in what happens after death and are tended
to reveal mysteries. Similarly, Richard is afraid of the death; nevertheless, he insists on hearing
the shout. Finally, Charles gives up: As you wish, but I have warned you what a shout is . As a
saying goes Forewarned is forearmed . However, Richard did not think about the effect of the

Similarly in The Kite Runner, Amir struggles to find a connection with his father, Baba.
According to Amir, their bond was a fundamental basis of their lives, however when describing
Baba, he claims he is a force of nature, using a metaphor to not only place Baba as a superior
character, but leaving room for sympathy for Amir as he, like Raimond, feels a distant sense of
connection to the world of his father. Another prime example of Amir feeling no connection to the
world of his father is the soccer games that he, whilst full of regret, participated in, just to try and
feel that sense of belonging he was hoping for. Amir would pretend to enjoy soccer even though he
was hopeless and his scraggy legs couldn t keep up with the sport. Amir s condescending tone
expresses his embarrassment and hate for the sport but the will to persevere to make his father
happy, therefore demonstrating how Amir strives to belong. Amir s personal relationship with his
father was obviously dishonest which contradicts with his father s

Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes
Ted hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water
lily painting looked like. In all of his works, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make
the reader understand it by using nature as the key. The task in this poem is presented by the title
How To Paint A Water Lily . The reason he wrote this poem, was to describe nature by decorating
the spirit of the environment around the lily. The two literary techniques that will be discussed in
this paper are imagery and alliteration.
Ted Hughes is using his words to inform the painter in a way that describes everything else but
the lily. The painter is on a mission to create a painted depiction of a water lily in a pond. Ted
Hughes is very fond of nature as he mentions various aspects of nature to create many images in
our minds. However, the main aspect of the poem is surprisingly not the flower; it was the
dragonfly. The dragonfly appears for the second time in stanza 3. First observe the air s dragonfly
That eats meat, that bullets by . The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2 7 because of its role it
plays on the environment. The reader and the painter may wonder What does the dragonfly have to
do with the water lily? but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem.
The first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique
found in Ted Hughes poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help readers
visualize the work better. While Ted is describing the environment around the lily, he describes
the action of the dragonflies as Rainbow their arcs, spark, or settle. which makes you visualize
the dragonflies arching their backs as if they were about to fly full speed, seeing a spark happen
from the light reflecting off of their shiny wings. The part about settle is about how the
dragonflies probably fly away or land on the lily when they are done fighting. The details that
were just described were not stated in the poem, it s just what was visualized after reading these
words. There are many other examples of imagery in the poem. The first stanza says A green level
of lily leaves Roofs the pond s chamber and paves The flies

In terms of becoming a mediator and consensus builder the authors detailed the need for principals
to possess relational leadership skills in order to be able to both facilitate groups and coach others
on staff in the ability to facilitate their own groups, and stressed that the key to this is the ability to
effectively participate in conflict resolution (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). The
authors suggested that conflict is part and parcel of school reform and that in addition to being able
to deal effectively with conflict the successful principal needs to develop the ability for bringing
about consensus within the group, noting that interpersonal and intrapersonal skills were as much
or more important than knowledge (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). In the area
of relationships it was noted that principals that are most effective are those that place high value
on people and relationships and that when this exists as a core part of the belief system of the
principal it is noticeable and is communicated to staff in both subtle and explicit ways (Donaldson,
Marnik, Mackenzie, Ackerman, 2009). According to the authors this sense of value comes through
in all of the dealings that the principal has with stakeholders (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie,

there exist records which contain collections of mathematical exercises. We shall study the

Character Development In Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
Character development is defined as a change that a character goes through from the beginning to
the end of the story. Often times, the writer creates developments only in the characters that he
wants to highlight; therefore the importance of the character is determined by the amount of
change that takes place. Characterdevelopment is also very important in literary works that are more
focused on character rather than events or theme, as exemplified in the novella Metamorphosis .
Although a common notion is that the main character is the most dynamic, therefore the most
developed, and the foil: an ordinary and static secondary character to emphasize the qualities of the
protagonist; Franz Kafkadid the complete opposite in his novella. While both Gregor and Grete
Samsa from Kafka s Metamorphosis experienced character development, it was evident that Gregor
s metamorphosis symbolized and initiated the figurative transformation that Grete underwent. From
the very beginning, it is apparent that the author, Franz Kafka would be focusing on character.
Metamorphosis opens with the protagonist, Gregor Samsa: a traveling salesman, who upon waking
up discovers that he has been transformed into a disgusting vermin. It is important to note that

From the very beginning of the novella, it was evident that only Grete shows concern for
Gregor s well being. Because of this, she was then given the task of being Gregor s care taker. In
the first part of the story, she would still take into consideration what he would like to eat, the
cleanliness of his room and the arrangement of his furniture; all this was done for Gregor s
comfort. In this point of the story, we see the close and loving relationship that the siblings share.
As his care taker, Grete serves as his link to his family and furthermore,

Fraser Coast
Fraser Coast consists of four main ecosystems which are rocky shores, sand dunes, rainforests and
mangroves. All of these ecosystems are important to the survival of several plants and animals.
Each plant and animal work together to keep the ecosystem alive and healthy.
Rocky Shores are found where the sea meets the land which supports a diverse mix of plants and
animals that have adapted to survive in the unique conditions of constant wave action as well as
the fall of tides (Ehp.qld. 2016). Most of the ecosystems flora and fauna live in the intertidal zone,
between high and low tide (Ehp.qld. 2016). They are exposed to two environments, being crushed

Hawthorne Essay
Nathaniel Hawthorne is considered to be one of the most substantial writers of his time. His most
famous novel, The Scarlet Letter truly originated Hawthorn amp;#8217;s version of romantic
writing. It was this novel that also originated Hawthorne amp;#8217;s fame. Most of his works
deal with or have some relation to Puritan times. The reason for the familiarity in his works is due
to the fact that it seems to be influenced by his own Puritan ancestry. It was not until late in
Hawthorne amp;#8217;s life that he received recognition. To do this Hawthorne had to change his
name and found his own stlye of writing that pertained to his life experiances. His romantic style

In these stories, the character goes through a series of psychological issues dealing with his
infatuation. An example of the psychological issues pertaining to infatuation is portrayed in
Rappaccini amp;#8217;s Daughter. This work deals with a young man named Giovanni who is so
blind by love that he becomes susceptible to deception. He is instantly mystified and enchanted
by the beauty of Beatrice. She was a girl from the Italian village called Padua. Her father had
once been a professor at the University of Padua, where Giovanni attended. Giovanni meets a
professor named Baglioni who is very jealous of Rappaccini. Giovanni is so love stricken that he

Toxic Effects of Mercury Poisening Essay example
Humans and animals have been exposed to one or all forms of mercury, but the toxic effects can
vary depending on the person or the animal. The toxic effects can also vary on the amount of

animals weight different amounts and are different in height. The smaller the mammal the more the
symptoms of mercury poison will be seen, and the toxic effects. Other factors involved are family

pass these cute, loveable creatures walking with their owners and may even coo about them, or
wish their furry friend were with them. Suddenly, they see a vicious escape psycho killer mere
feet away from them. This killer is only a pit bull, but these people associate this breed with
violence, danger, and death. While only a few number of pit bulls are dangerous, an incredible
amount of people believe that this breed are the mass murderers of the dogrealm. Pit bulls do not
deserve the negative perceptions they receive because, other dog breeds are more aggressive,
their behaviors rely on their owners, and the sensationalized media about the breed. A dog s

friendly these dogs are (ATTS). The test consists of walking in an enclosed track where the dog
will react to different strangers and noises. The percent of pit bulls that passed the temperament test

The Hard Facts Of The Grimms Fairy Tales
The four themes that Maria Tatar argues in her book The Hard Facts of the Grimms Fairy Tales
are 1. Rise of national identity and culture 2.Dissolution 3. Political and religious refugees and 4.
Change in technology. With all four of these being relevant to the time, it sets up the importance of
the remake of the fairy tale. We have to look critically at where we are and where we are going
because of our pop culture and politics.
While some may argue that fairy tales have become less important to society as we are advancing
in technology there are some that still strike important meaning to this day. Fairy tales in this day
have often become associated with 1) Disney and 2) princess culture. And while there is nothing
wrong with these, in fact I am a huge fan of both of them myself, as a result many other fairy tales
have been pushed into the background. One such fairy tale is The Emperor s New Clothes,
originally written down by Hans Christian Andersen in 1837. This tale is able to examine how
social media is changing our interactions as well as talk about the political climate in which we
now live in. This then makes it the perfect candidate for a modern remake movie. The american
public is the becoming the emperor as we lose sight of what s really import by social media
consumption, while the current political climate is the people who are promising to make us robes.

Texas Teacher Evaluation And Support System

Since 1997, the primary tool for teacher evaluation was the Professional Development and

effectiveness and student learning and growth, the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System
(T TESS) was elaborated (TEA, 2016, p. 3). The T TESS was designed by educators to support
continuous improvement by focusing on feedback and support, moving the mindset away from
compliance (TEA, 2016, p. 3).

First of all, continual feedback allows teachers to self reflect on best practices. For example, a
teacher can target his/her areas of weakness in order to grow professionally and gain further insight
of best practices. Another benefit, of teacher evaluations is higher student success rates. These, for
example, are measurable through district assessments and state standardized assessments. If a
teachers success rate has significantly improved through modification of practices, T TESS has
served its intended purpose. Finally, yet another benefit of teacher evaluations is the fact that the
educator is an active participant in his/her evaluation process. For example, through goal setting, the
educator is allowed the opportunity to decide where he/she want to grow. Through the evaluation
cycle and the communication therein, the appraiser and educator both take greater responsibility in
understanding and meeting established goals. Finally, at the end of the process, student growth is
an indicator of a well developed and integrated evaluation system. These are but a few of the many
benefits reaped from an evaluation systems such as T TESS (TEA,

Evaluate The Impact Technological Changes Have Had On The...
Evaluate the impact technological changes have had on the economics of health care and what
these changes mean to the health care industry, addressing at least two (2) changes. There are a
myriad of disruptive technologies impacting the economics of healthcare today. Two of the most
disruptive in terms of re ordering capital expense (CAPEX) spending are cloud computing s impact
on medical records management (Corredor, MartГnez, Familiar, 2011) and telemedicine
administered remotely over the Internet (Johansson, Wild, 2010). The economics of healthcare are
being changed both structurally and at the patient experience level, which together are re ordering
the entire value chain of healthcare service delivery and monitoring. Cloud computing based
medical records management is making it possible for hospitals and treatment centers to have a
single, unified system of record for their current and past patient population (Corredor, MartГnez,
Familiar, 2011). This has drastically reduced duplication of records management systems,
minimized reporting and billing errors, and created a highly effective platform for patient based
analytics (Martin, Yen, Tan, 2002). The insights and intelligence gained from the analytics driven
from patient systems is also making it possible for healthcare providers to better redefine process
workflows, making hospital operations more cost effective. The combining of cloud computing

Irish Dance Paper
Irish Dance: A Marvelous Dance
Irish step dancing has existed since the 1700 s, over 300 years. Families in Ireland have passed
down Irish step dance from generation to generation as a way of preserving their culture. While the
meaning of the dance remains the same, the performance and showmanship has changed
dramatically. From girls and boys with pale skin and natural hair to girls with fake tanned skin,
huge curly wigs, and thousand dollar dresses and boys with fake tanned skin and outlandish outfits.
Irish dance has become more of a spectacle such as Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. Those

Taking methods of the dance or stick with the traditional movements and showing them in a way
that would be more interesting to the public. Which is what was done with Riverdance and Lord of
the Dance, which take the form of the dance and use it for a dramatic necessity.
There are various parts of Irish dance that have lasted throughout the years to remain an influence
on the form known today. These basics have laid the foundation on which the dance has grown.
Performed mainly during festivals, which date from the period of Eric the Red and the Viking
raids of Ireland. While the Vikings did destroyed most books and written records, it was
acknowledged that music and dance were important to the Gaelic culture. These festivals were a
mixture of trade fair, political gathering, music, dance, sports, story telling and crafts. Today, the
sole purposes of feiseanna are competitive dance competitions. There is still music, crafts, and
trades, not as much. Officially there is no political aspect to the festivals anymore, many who
participate would tell you otherwise.
The reason that the traditional dance has remained apart of the world is because of the teachers and
students. But in order to dance the students required movements, steps, and music to put them to.
The dance masters teachers of the 18th and 19th centuries all had the same original dance steps,
while they invented their own steps on top the original ones. There are two different roots, which

`` Repent, Harlequin, By Harlan Ellison
Harlan Ellison uses strong imagery in his short story Repent, Harlequin! said the Ticktockman to
better develop the characters and setting. The personalities of both the Harlequin and the
Ticktockman are developed through Ellison s imagery of their physical forms and of their
personas. The dull setting of the short storyis created through the author s imagery of machinery,
particularly clockwork, and Mondrian arrangements. Ellison s use of imagery allows the reader to
pull from this story deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According
to White, the disruptive and rebellious Harlequinis an anomaly: the only human being
distinguishable from machines (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the Harlequin as the only
individual within his society, Ellison employs the use of strong imagery to cause him to stand out
among the rest of the characters. One way that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish
language to describe the Harlequin. Aside from being a personality, which in and of itself is
outrageous to the System, the Harlequin is also a laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and
jive (953, 955). This imagery of a jesteror a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is merely a
nuisance to his society rather than a dangerous rebellious force. When the Harlequin is flying the
air boat that he uses to drop jelly beans on to the metronomic Timkin workers, he is not described
as merely flying this boat over the people

Some Of The Things We See Our Everyday Life Like Movies
Shawn Scott Professor Stief English 1302.707 22 April 2017 Title Some of the things we see in
our everyday life like movies, television shows, or commercials depict different stereotypes of
men. Men are depicted to be people who are careless, make stupid mistakes, are self centered,
independent, and strong. They bring the money home and support the family, and the stars of the
show but are often incapable of solving the simplists of problems. In these examples there are
many times women in the background that hold everything together. These ideas can shape

end of the game, the coach wanted to put in the second string running back. Boobie could not

movie. The film would promote the idea that it is only up to one s self to have success and not
the other individuals on the field. Being an athlete could also become an excuse for getting

athlete to take advantage of things he would not be able to get away with if he was not a

The Diary Of War, National Pride And The National...
Claire Anderson
History

The Preface to War; National Pride in the Balkans Walter S. Zapotoczny, an author and historian,
once said, Each of the great powers believed they had something to gain from war, fostering the
national pride and the national positioning that made World War Iinevitable. This is true, as
imperialism and militarism were a large part of national pride. Austria Hungary, for example,
wanted Serbia. The German military was expanding rapidly. With each argument countries got into,
hatred became stronger. Eventually, the European tensions snapped and everything toppled into
terrible war. World War I was inevitable due to each of the great powers being imperialistic,
militaristic, and prepared for war.
During the early 1900 s, the European great powers believed they all had something to gain from
expanding. Land in Africa was being claimed by countries such as France and Great Britain. A
main goal for all the countries of Europe was growing. Austria and Hungary joined together into a
dual monarchy in 1867. This country annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908. Germany was
annoyed at not having as much space in Africa, which is imperialistic because it is territorial.
Imperialism was popular during the time. The great powers believed they could become better
through imperialism. In this case, imperialism is showing national pride because the expansion of a
country makes it more powerful. Power is something citizens of a country can be

Courtship Rituals
In my opinion courtship rituals have drastically changed over time but have also still held onto
some aspects of romance, dating, and traditions that couples set early on. Courtship rituals are the
traditions during a certain period of time where two people get to know each other before striving to
marry their significant other. Courtshiprituals can vary depending on the culture and the people
using it. Many have mixed opinions on the topic. Nowadays, relationships can be tricky and are
nothing like the movies. Datingpractices differ now from the late 1900 s and early 2000 s. For this
essay I have decided to interview my younger cousin, who is fourteen years old. Through the
interview process she gave me the insight of younger teens and preteens dating. Communication,
social presence, and technology have changed the ways relationships are viewed and acted upon.
Dating had almost completely replaced the old system of calling by the mid 1920s and, in so doing,
had transformed American courtship. An excerpt from Beth L. Bailey s book, From Front Porch to

Valenzuela and Valenzuela first begin by discussing the modernization perspective, its assumptions
and how this perspective relates to Latin America underdevelopment (1978, p.537). Valenzuela and

where modernization focuses predominantly on the behaviours, beliefs and traditions of
individuals, the dependency approach focuses on elements outside the individual unit such as
international trade, class alliances and conflict (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550). Where the
modernization approach focuses on the microsocial, the dependency approach focuses on the
macrosocial (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550).
Valenzuela and Valenzuela have determined that the dependency approach has a fundamental
advantage compared to modernization theory (1978, p.552), dependency perspective is much more
open to drawing from a broader body of evidence and range of phenomena, such as the relationship
between central countries and the periphery , trade and class alliances. Modernization theory, which
operates on a simple conceptual framework and a reductionist approach , such as the traditional
modern dichotomy (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.552),

Objectivity And Religion
The literatures on values in philosophy on observation and theory have to do with the distinction
between the observable and unobservable. Objectivity comes in degrees. Claims, methods and
results can be more or less objective, and, other things being equal. Using the term objective to
describe something often carries a special rhetorical force with it. The admiration of science
among the general public and the authority science enjoys in public life stems to a large extent
from the view that science is objective or at least more objective than other modes of inquiry.
Understanding scientific objectivity is therefore central to understanding the nature of science and
the role it plays in society. How can we maintain the view that objectivity... Show more content on

Contextual values are moral, personal, social, political and cultural values such as pleasure, justice
and equality, conservation of the natural environment and diversity. The most notorious cases of
improper uses of such values involve travesties of scientific reasoning, where the intrusion of
contextual values led to an intolerant and oppressive scientific agenda with devastating epistemic
and social consequences. In the Third Reich, a large part of contemporary physics, such as the
theory of relativity, was condemned because its inventors were Jewish; in the Soviet Union,
biologist Nikolai Vavilov was sentenced to death (and died in prison) because his theories of genetic
inheritance did not match Marxist Leninist ideology. Both states tried to foster a science that was
motivated by political convictions (Lenard s Deutsche Physik in Nazi Germany, Lysenko s anti
genetic theory of inheritance in the Soviet Union), leading to disastrous epistemic and institutional

The Point Of Euthyphro
What is the point of the Euthyphro?
Euthyphro [ca. 399 395 BCE], by Plato, is a written dialogue about the events which occurred
before the trial of Socrates , where Socrates was charged with two crimes impiety against the
pantheon of Athens and corruption of the youth. Socrates was accused of failing to acknowledge
the gods that the city acknowledges and introducing new deities . The consequence for such a crime
was death. Euthyphro was in the court to present manslaughter charges against his father to the
court. Socrates begins his debate with Euthyphro by asking Euthyphro does he have a clear
understanding of what is pious and impious. He asks this because he is face with the crime of
impiety; Socrates hopes to learn from Euthyphro so he has a better understanding of his charge and
can better defend himself in trial.
Euthyphro says the reason he is being charged with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(13c) In turn, Euthyphro responds that looking after involves service to others, and Socrates asks:
What is the end product of piety? Euthyphro replies with his earlier (third) definition, that: Piety is
what is loved by all the gods.

Dichotomy In Public Administration
In my own opinion, the distinction on an aspect of administration and the political dichotomy is
both workable and also it is practical. The reason as to why I am saying this is that first, the two
aspects in the field of government running are very necessary (Goodnow Books, 2016). In order
for the government to carry out its operations for the better of the general public who are the core
principles in a public administration, it is of important to have the two aspects in place for the
leaders in government to operate as required in order to yield the best results of their services to the
public expectations. The two are in a dichotomy situation but however, there is a way that they can
be integrated and used concurrently to yield better results in government operations in its leadership
process.
To have this aspect of practicability and workability of the distinction, let us first examine each of
the two aspects separately then from there we get to see the integration of the two to bring out an
effective operational platform of the two.
First, let us think of an administration. We all know and appreciate that for an effective and efficient
leadership, there needs to be a strong leadership and also the management characteristics of the
administration in place need to be performing greatly (Association for Politics and the Life Sciences
(U.S.), 2017). Another aspect that is supposed to be considered in the field of public administration
and specifically government

The Visualization Of Fear In Brent Staples s Just Walk On...
Fear is a quintessential human emotion. Some people live devoid of joy, happiness, and
pleasure, but no one escapes the experience of fear. The visualization of danger is greatly
impacted by the many stereotypes society has shaped. The formation of these stereotypes can
affect the actions of both the perpetrator and the victim. In Brent Staples essay, Just Walk on By,
the author describes his experiences, feelings, issues, stereotypes, and reactions towards the
discrimination he has faced being a black man in public surroundings. Staples describes several
different personal experiences of when he feels that he had been judged or discriminated against
by other people, based on the color of his skin and how that contributed to his overall
appearance. He reveals how the actions taken towards him were because of the fear linked to his
labeled stereotypes of being a rapist, gangster, or mugger. Staples feels fearful and does not have
the same freedom as other people. Staples has many reasons to be afraid. He discusses his own
experiences on how he is stereotyped. In the essay, Staples describes himself as a tall, young
black man who has graduated and is educated. He also mentions that he is a soft guy who would
not even harm a chicken with a knife, so he could never do that to a woman. Staples talks about
how people think of him as a bad person, which he is not. In one case, Staples states, It was clear
that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist or worse (1). Even though he is walking
a clear distance at night behind a white woman, she is afraid of him. People stereotype him
because he is an African American and he looks intimidating. He is not treated fairly and is
always being discriminated against. If Staple s first victim thought he was a rapist or a mugger,
she might go on and tell other people that a mugger or rapist who is black followed her, and she
got away from him. Later on, other people start to think he is dangerous, and they could get
violent with him. The author feels fearful because, at any moment, people can hurt him if they
suspect him of being a bad person. He admits to feeling unsafe and being discriminated against in
public places. He does not feel accepted among people.

Ficer Of The Corporate World
In the corporate world, there is often room for error. There are procedures, policies, and
regulations to follow in every department. and there must be someone to oversee these policies.
This person is known as the Chief Compliance Officer. Brad is the Chief Compliance Officer, or
CCO, of Investors Group. As he says, he s the police officer of the corporate world. By law, a
firm like Investors Group, an investment fund manager and portfolio advisor must have a CCO.
The main duty of the CCO is ensuring that the firm is following all regulations as an investor or
as an advisor. He also makes certain that all employees are following all internal policies and
procedures. Brad didn t have a typical reason for pursuing accounting when he went to school.
When he was applying to the University of Manitoba, he happened to watch the movie Wall
Street. He was not sure what faculty he wanted to go into, but watching this interesting movie
cemented his decision. Brad says he never really aimed to have his career move towards
becoming CCO, but more that is was a gradual transition. He began as an auditor and eventually
moved to working in investment compliance. From there, he made a lateral transfer to his
current job. However, Brad says he s becoming someone who doesn t follow a job description. He
also follows many roles, able to switch from one job to another without issue. This, he says, come
from working for Investors Group for 25 years. An example of his many roles is while Brad

  • 2. Masquerade Concert, Halloween Spooktacular, Arranged By... Out of the three pieces that the Artiste Orchestra prepared to the Masquerade Concert, Halloween Spooktacular, arranged by Bob Phillips, was definitely the hardest piece. Not only was it long, but it was fast and had passages with difficult fingerings. By no means have I perfected this piece, but I used several different practice techniques to help me master the fast tempoand difficult fingerings. The technique that I used the most was probably using a metronome. I would start by playing a passage very slowly, probably around 80 100 beats per minute depending on the passage. Then, once I had mastered the passage at that speed, I would increase the tempo by 10 beats per minute and practice the passage at that speed until I had mastered it. Then, I would increase the tempo another 10 beats per minute and repeat the same process. I would continue this same process until I had mastered that section at tempo. It was at these slower speeds that I could really focus on the little things, such as intonation, rhythm, dynamics and articulation because by focusing on these elements as slow speeds, it would be easier to bring them into the piece at faster speeds. Another practice technique I attempted to use to practice Halloween Spooktacular was playing along with a recorded version of the piece. This is a technique I used for several pieces last year because I find it helpful to hear all the parts of a piece, not just my own. Unfortunately, after one or two attempts to play along ... Design procedures that allocate resources strategically: Within any company, competition for resources is inevitable. Every function and business unit needs funding for both capital and operating expenses usually in excess of the actual resources available. This makes it critically important for companies to design procedures so that resources are allocated to support key strategies. If a participant has more social support, the relationship between their previous day level of perceived stress and current day pain level is reduced compared to if they have less perceived social support. This seems to be obviously a moderator rather than a mediator because level of perceived social support is changing the slope of the regression line. The relationship between the independent or predictor variable and the dependent or outcome variable is stronger or weaker depending on the level of the mediator. • 16. Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes Ted hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water lily painting looked like. In all of his works, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make the reader understand it by using nature as the key. The task in this poem is presented by the title How To Paint A Water Lily . The reason he wrote this poem, was to describe nature by decorating the spirit of the environment around the lily. The two literary techniques that will be discussed in this paper are imagery and alliteration. Ted Hughes is using his words to inform the painter in a way that describes everything else but the lily. The painter is on a mission to create a painted depiction of a water lily in a pond. Ted Hughes is very fond of nature as he mentions various aspects of nature to create many images in our minds. However, the main aspect of the poem is surprisingly not the flower; it was the dragonfly. The dragonfly appears for the second time in stanza 3. First observe the air s dragonfly That eats meat, that bullets by . The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2 7 because of its role it plays on the environment. The reader and the painter may wonder What does the dragonfly have to do with the water lily? but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem. The first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique found in Ted Hughes poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help readers visualize the work better. While Ted is describing the environment around the lily, he describes the action of the dragonflies as Rainbow their arcs, spark, or settle. which makes you visualize the dragonflies arching their backs as if they were about to fly full speed, seeing a spark happen from the light reflecting off of their shiny wings. The part about settle is about how the dragonflies probably fly away or land on the lily when they are done fighting. Often times, the writer creates developments only in the characters that he wants to highlight; therefore the importance of the character is determined by the amount of change that takes place. With all four of these being relevant to the time, it sets up the importance of the remake of the fairy tale. We have to look critically at where we are and where we are going because of our pop culture and politics. While some may argue that fairy tales have become less important to society as we are advancing in technology there are some that still strike important meaning to this day. Fairy tales in this day have often become associated with 1) Disney and 2) princess culture. And while there is nothing wrong with these, in fact I am a huge fan of both of them myself, as a result many other fairy tales have been pushed into the background. One such fairy tale is The Emperor s New Clothes, originally written down by Hans Christian Andersen in 1837. This tale is able to examine how social media is changing our interactions as well as talk about the political climate in which we now live in. This then makes it the perfect candidate for a modern remake movie. Evaluate the impact technological changes have had on the economics of health care and what these changes mean to the health care industry, addressing at least two (2) changes. There are a myriad of disruptive technologies impacting the economics of healthcare today. Two of the most disruptive in terms of re ordering capital expense (CAPEX) spending are cloud computing s impact on medical records management (Corredor, MartГnez, Familiar, 2011) and telemedicine administered remotely over the Internet (Johansson, Wild, 2010). While the Vikings did destroyed most books and written records, it was acknowledged that music and dance were important to the Gaelic culture. The personalities of both the Harlequin and the Ticktockman are developed through Ellison s imagery of their physical forms and of their personas. The dull setting of the short storyis created through the author s imagery of machinery, particularly clockwork, and Mondrian arrangements. Ellison s use of imagery allows the reader to pull from this story deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According to White, the disruptive and rebellious Harlequinis an anomaly: the only human being distinguishable from machines (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the Harlequin as the only individual within his society, Ellison employs the use of strong imagery to cause him to stand out among the rest of the characters. One way that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish language to describe the Harlequin. Aside from being a personality, which in and of itself is outrageous to the System, the Harlequin is also a laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and jive (953, 955). This imagery of a jesteror a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is merely a nuisance to his society rather than a dangerous rebellious force. In order for the government to carry out its operations for the better of the general public who are the core principles in a public administration, it is of important to have the two aspects in place for the leaders in government to operate as required in order to yield the best results of their services to the public expectations. The two are in a dichotomy situation but however, there is a way that they can be integrated and used concurrently to yield better results in government operations in its leadership process. To have this aspect of practicability and workability of the distinction, let us first examine each of the two aspects separately then from there we get to see the integration of the two to bring out an effective operational platform of the two. First, let us think of an administration. We all know and appreciate that for an effective and efficient leadership, there needs to be a strong leadership and also the management characteristics of the administration in place need to be performing greatly (Association for Politics and the Life Sciences (U.S.), 2017). Another aspect that is supposed to be considered in the field of public administration and specifically government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Visualization Of Fear In Brent Staples s Just Walk On... Fear is a quintessential human emotion. Some people live devoid of joy, happiness, and pleasure, but no one escapes the experience of fear. The visualization of danger is greatly impacted by the many stereotypes society has shaped. The formation of these stereotypes can affect the actions of both the perpetrator and the victim. In Brent Staples essay, Just Walk on By, the author describes his experiences, feelings, issues, stereotypes, and reactions towards the discrimination he has faced being a black man in public surroundings. Staples describes several different personal experiences of when he feels that he had been judged or discriminated against by other people, based on the color of his skin and how that contributed to his overall appearance. He reveals how the actions taken towards him were because of the fear linked to his labeled stereotypes of being a rapist, gangster, or mugger. Staples feels fearful and does not have the same freedom as other people. Staples has many reasons to be afraid. He discusses his own experiences on how he is stereotyped. In the essay, Staples describes himself as a tall, young black man who has graduated and is educated. He also mentions that he is a soft guy who would not even harm a chicken with a knife, so he could never do that to a woman. Staples talks about how people think of him as a bad person, which he is not. In one case, Staples states, It was clear that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist or worse (1). Even though he is walking a clear distance at night behind a white woman, she is afraid of him. People stereotype him because he is an African American and he looks intimidating. He is not treated fairly and is always being discriminated against. If Staple s first victim thought he was a rapist or a mugger, she might go on and tell other people that a mugger or rapist who is black followed her, and she got away from him. Later on, other people start to think he is dangerous, and they could get violent with him. The author feels fearful because, at any moment, people can hurt him if they suspect him of being a bad person. He admits to feeling unsafe and being discriminated against in public places. He does not feel accepted among people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
