I Left The Biotech Industry
I left the biotech industry in 1995 after working for five years as a biochemist. I was unhappy working
in a research laboratory all day with little interaction with people. One night I was watching The
Power of Myth program on Public Broadcasting Service TV channel where Bill Moyers was
interviewing Joseph Campbell. I heard Mr. Campbell repeat several times a statement that resonated
with me follow your bliss he said. For the next several months, it was the only thing that I was
thinking. Where is my bliss I kept wondering? My wife was pregnant with my son, and I was stuck in
a job that I did not like. Fortuitously, my lab director assigned me to train a group of visiting biologists
from England for a week on the use of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I continued teaching for two more years until my daughter was born. During that time, I was voted for
three years in a row as Students favorite teacher. However, I grudgingly left teaching to be able
financially to support my growing family. I started an environmental consulting business with my wife
who is a biochemical engineer and was working as an environmental consultant for a firm in Orange
County. For the next eighteen years, I developed and managed a successful company called Ecotek.
Though, teaching was always on my mind and the part that I enjoyed the most about Ecotek was the
environmental training and the presentations that I did for my clients. My three children are in college
now, but four years ago I started hearing that inner voice telling me to follow my bliss. I knew that I
wanted to go back to teaching, so I took several assignments as a substitute teacher to see if I have
what it takes to be a good teacher. I found out quickly that I want to teach and that I enjoy it, school
administrators offered me several long term substitute positions and soon enough, within a year, I left
the business to my wife and started teaching biology full time at Lynwood Unified School District. It
has been four happy years since I returned to the teaching profession. As a biology teacher at
Firebaugh High School, I feel that

Racial Inequality And Police Brutality
Racial inequality is a disparity in opportunity and treatment that occurs as a result of someone s race
(Racial Inequality, 1996 2017, line 1). Racial profiling and police brutality falls under racial
inequality. According to Nazgol Ghandnoosh (2017), Officers racially biased use of discretion either
intentional or unintentional is one cause of racial disparities in police contact that are not explained by
differences in crime rates (p. 6). When one group is targeted more than another it will cause the group
that is targeted the most to have more involvement. The crime rates for black people is higher than
those of white people because more black people are arrested than white people. Nazgol Ghandnoosh

Essay about Short Story
Short Story
It was lying there, the battered and torn body. There was a moment of silence as detective David
Whittle and I stared at the body. I could not understand how this had occurred.
It had been a fairly quiet day at the station until I had received a phone call from a distressed mother,
pleading for us to help. Her voice was hard to understand as she was crying so hard. I traced the call to
a small village just on the edge of Brighton, called Linden where a Miss Hutton lived. I had visited
Linden before as one of my old friends lived there. It was a quiet little town, which had nothing
special about it. It was not far by car but I was confused as to why we were going there, as the ...

She said that it had been an ordinary day up until about three o clock when she heard noise coming
from upstairs.
Well it was just then that I realised that there were more people than just my daughter Victoria
upstairs. There was a loud crashing sound and she screamed! I had not any idea that my daughter had
just been murdered .
Murdered you say .
She was still sulking as she said yes
Did you see the murderer? I asked.
She did not reply but just broke down in tears. Immediately our attention was drawn to the skid marks
we had seen on our entry to the house. We examined them and David, being a vehicle expert
recognised that they had been left by a transit van. The name Gary popped into mind when he said
transit van as he had been known to speed around the local village, and I have arrested him on many
occasions. He was a short black haired chubby man who had a distinctive scar down the left side of
his face. He always wore jeans that were ripped at the bottom, and he had small brown boots. He was
in his middle thirties and was not married.
David and I sat in our car and decided to ring the police station and tell them to look for the name
Gary Myers in the police record books. Surely enough when they looked they said that he has been in
and out of the local police station

The Stock Market s Impact on Our Lives Essay
Every weekday from the hours of 10am to 4pm $169 billion dollars on average trades hands from one
party to another. It s the New York Stock Exchange and has been trading stocks since 1817. The stock
market has a definite impact on our lives (just ask those who lived during The Great Depression.) It is
an institution that has made people unfathomably wealthy, along with impossibly poor. Today the New
York Stock Exchange has over 2,300 different companies trading stock valued at just over 16 trillion
dollars. Currently there are over one hundred unique stock exchanges throughout the world. A Stock

A company reserves the right to raise and lower the exact amount of the dividend via press releases.
The New York Stock Exchange was not always the financial giant it is today. When it first began in
May of 1792 it only traded five securities, the first of which was the Bank of New York. At the start
only twenty four brokers were allowed to participate in trading. It wasn t until 1817 that the New York
Stock Exchange began to embody something close to what we know today. All of the 24 brokers
established a constitution of rules with how the exchange must operate. These rules included
everything from how one s self could lose their membership to fines for swearing. More importantly
though they protected the integrity of the exchange with it s regulations. The New York Stock
Exchange has had its fair share of tragedies as well. In 1920 a bomb went off outside of the exchange
killing 38 people; the largest act of terrorism on United States soil at the time. The bomber was never
apprehended. The most destructive event of the stock exchange s life was the Crash of 1929. After
World War I the U.S economy was doing quite well. From the period of 1925 to 1928 the stock prices
began to rise rapidly. The stock market appeared to families as a secure, strong means to increase their
money. Just about everyone was putting their money into the stock market in order

The Mausoleum Of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi
The mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi is one of the world s most precious cultural treasures and
its discovery was China s most spectacular archaeological achievement of the 20th century. Good
morning everyone, I am Zara Frost, curator of the Museum of Warrior and Horse figures from the
tomb of Qin Shihuangdi. Today, I will be personally giving you a tour of the museum and proving to
you that funerary evidence reveals that Emperor Qin Shihuangdi had absolute power and control over
the people in his dynasty, forcing them to build him an extravagant tomb filled with terracotta warriors
to guide him in the afterlife. During the tour, I will be talking about Qin Shihuangdi and how he
controlled his dynasty, then I will talk about the terracotta warriors, how they were discovered, made
and giving you an insight into their physical characteristics, and lastly, what other items were buried in
the tomb with the warriors. Firstly, the first emperor of all of China was named Ying Zheng. He was
born in 260BC during a dangerous period of Chinese History. He ascended the throne in 247BC when
he was only thirteen years old. In 221 BC, Zheng united all of what is known now as China and
renamed himself Qin Shihuangdi, meaning first emperor of Qin . According to Will Durant, American
writer, historian, and philosopher, by unifying China, Qin simplified official ceremonies, issued a state
coinage, divided most of the feudal estates and paved the way for unity by building great highways

My Online Community Essay
My Online Community I aimlessly wondered the Internet trying to find a community suitable for me. I
wasn t sure what I was looking for. I have many interests, but I really don t have a strong passion for
something. So I decided to join a community in which I could express myself as a teen and talk about
general issues. I joined the mtv.com community. There I expressed my thoughts on everything,
ranging from music to daily events that shape our world. There I had a chance to share my opinions
and beliefs, as others posted their thoughts and perspectives on certain subjects. Online communities
are rather congruent to offline ones. They are both appealing yet displeasing at the same time. An

It was my first time in a community, and I was quite interested in seeing how it was going to be. On
the second day of being a member, I wanted to start posting some of my own thoughts on certain
things. I started to read messages ranging from questions like, what s your favorite commercial, to
questions like, why censor a record that does little more than personalize the struggles of abortion and
prompt a national dialogue on the topic? I clicked on the reply button, and I started responding to all
these messages. I spent more than an hour browsing the site and responding to all these questions that
sparked an interest in me. Some people had great sense of humors, and others didn t do anything else
but criticize anyone who didn t agree with his/her own opinion. There were several drawbacks in my
community. The previous day I had posted several questions that I wanted people to answer to, but
since the community is so large, my message was lost in the middle of several other messages. I had
posted a question on whether America has too many laws or not, and It took me more than 10 minutes
of clicking the next page button to find it. Several people had responded to it, and it was nice to see
that some people agreed with me. It was also very interesting to see how others disagreed with me and

ABSTRACT
Buchi Emecheta is one of the growing numbers of African women writers who have set their authorial
eyes on the conditions of women living both on their home continent and abroad. She takes her place
among Tsitsi Dangarembga, Miriama Ba, Bessie Head, Ama Ata Aidoo, Lauretta Ngcobo, and Lindsey
Collen, to name a few, as writers who have formed an intense new voice of African womanhood.
Emecheta has published more than twenty works; including the novels Double Yoke, The Bride Price,
Head above Water, Destination Biafra, and Kehinde. Each is an exploration of what it means to be a
woman and a mother in rapidly evolving societies where traditions and mores are in a constant state of
flux. While some of her novels mirror her own experience as an expatriate living in London, her work
mostly focuses on her native country of Nigeria. The Joys of Motherhood is among her most pivotal
works, as it offers critical commentary on colonialism, tradition, capitalism, and women s roles as they
come to affect one woman, Nnu Ego, and her family
Key words: African women writers, expatriation, motherhood, colonialism, women s role

Racist Death Penalty
The Death Penalty is a racist practice and is costly to go through with. The death penalty must be
abolished for reasons such as punishing the poor, violating the human right to live, and being
incorrectly, or unfairly sentenced to death due to race or inaccurate evidence. What exactly gives
governments all this power to decide whether someone lives or dies? Along with inequality, the death
penalty punishes the poor. In recent studies if a defendant cannot afford good legal representation they
are more likely to head towards the death penalty. If the defendant can afford good legal
representation they are likely to get a lighter charge. In this situation money is key, which is unfair to
the poor as they cannot improve their situation. It is present that a large percent of defendants cannot

Constantine s Personal Beliefs
Constantine I is credited with adapting Christianity to the Roman Empire, ending persecution of
Christians, and eventually converting to the religion himself. However, historians have debated over
his motives; some consider them to be politically fueled, while others argue that they were based on
personal beliefs. After considering the various changes that were brought upon following the
conversion, it is clear that while Constantine s efforts were primarily strategically rooted, personal
beliefs did play a subsidiary role. Constantine s multifaceted relationship with Christianity first
emerged during his days as a successful general. Eusebius, a bishop and historian during the time,
stated that prior to the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, Constantine had a vision of a burning cross in the
sky with a message stating that he would succeed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constantine laid the foundations of what would soon become a religious and profitable hub and
established himself as the Patriarchate of Constantinople ( Legitimization Under Constantine ). The
institution of Constantinople both indicated the break with its pagan past and highlighted its
acceptance of Christianity. For example, Constantine did not allow pagan ceremonies in the city.
Constantinople flourished as a spiritual and political capital for over a millennium. Constantine was,
once again, most probably interested in the strategic location of the city, as it could be effectively used
for trade and commercial purposes. Additionally, its position made it difficult to be conquered by
rivaling nations. As Constantine was a very intelligent and cunning emperor, he most likely took note
of all of these facts and knew that the empire would benefit economically, as well as culturally and
socially, from the establishment of

Buddhist Art and Iconography As Asian culture became popular, Buddhist art became very familiar to
Americans. We can find statues of Buddha not only at Asian restaurants but also at bars, night clubs
and even at furniture stores. Buddhist art is becoming less associated with religion; however statues of
Buddha and other Buddhist motifs such as lotus flowers have significant religious meanings behind
them. Although some of people who are interested in Buddhist art are non Buddhist, there are millions
of followers in the United States today. The followers include non Asian converts as well as Asian

The positions of the Buddha s hands have special meanings attached to them, and they are called
Mudra. There are large numbers of Mudra, but here are five most commonly used Mudras: Dhyana
Mudra, Bhumisparsa Mudra, Varada Mudra, Abhaya Mudra, and Dharmachakra Mudra. When the
Buddha rests both hands with the palms facing upwards on his lap, it is called Dhyana Mudra,
meaning gesture of meditation. The right hand is on top of the left hand and both thumbs are joined.
Joining the two thumbs is of special significance since the nerve channel associated with the mind of
enlightenment is said to pass through the thumbs (Buddhist studies, 1995). The gesture of the right
hand hanging over the right knee while the left hand facing upwards on the lap is called Bhumisparsa
Mudra, Calling the Earth to Witness. During meditation, Siddhartha had many temptations. The
position of the left hand symbolizes meditation, and the right hand is point the earth and calling the
earth Goddess to bear witness. This gesture represents the Buddha s overcoming of hindrances during
meditation, and symbolizes enlightenment as well as steadfastness. When the left hand rests in the
same way on the lap and the right hand is resting on the knee with the palm facing outwards, the
gesture is called Varada Mudra, the gesture of bestowal of supreme accomplishment or charity. The
right hand symbolizes bestowal of supreme accomplishment, and the left hand

Modern Dance, By Miriam Giguere
Contemporary dance was developed in the early 20th century as a movement against the rigid
technique of ballet (Blackfish Arts Acadamy, 2006). Using the natural lines of the body to create new
movements, the contemporary dance style usually has more fluidity than that of conventional dance
styles (Freeman, 2013). In the book Beginning Modern Dance , Miriam Giguere says The function of
dance is communication. . . . By communication is not meant to tell a story or to project an idea, but to
communicate experience by means of action . . . out of this came a different use of the body as an
instrument, as the violin is an instrument. Body is the basic instrument, intuitive, instinctive. As a
result an entirely contemporary set of technics was evolved. (Giguere, 2014).
A forerunner in the changing face of modern dance was choreographer and performer Martha Graham.
Graham took up dance at the age of 22, during the time when women were fighting for the right to
vote (Mapes, 2013). Being both shorter and older than most dancers, Graham had to use her body in a
different way to the others at the Denishawn School of dance. This went against all of the principles
that female dancers had originally been taught (Mapes, 2013). Over the duration of her career, Graham
created one of the only sets of technique that is still practiced in today s contemporary style (Mapes,
2013). Focusing on two main principles, contraction and release, Graham s technique was strikingly
different to that of

Essay on A Great Composer
Inspiration may be a form of super consciousness, or perhaps of subconsciousness I wouldn t know.
But I am sure it is the antithesis of self consciousness.
Only one man could claim the title as probably the greatest composer in American history for writing
so many unforgettable works: Aaron Copland. He lived a life inspired by many things as well as
inspiring people all across the nation, and it really led to the opposite of being drawn into himself, as
he described in the quote above. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 14 in 1900. He
was the youngest of five children to Sarah and Harris Copland. A musical spark came out in Copland
already at the age of 11 as he began piano lessons with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1920 s, Aaron Copland went with the trend and experimented with jazz styles in his music,
which proved to be extraordinary in the views of many. His choice for other pieces came through
modern music about which he once said, I just happened upon it in the natural course of my musical
exploration. This was apparent in the way he would use ideals of Neoclassicism in his Piano
Variations. Copland then hit a downfall in about 1936. He wrote a few works which were harder to
perform and not taken in by many audiences due to the use of much more advanced techniques which
were uncommon for the time. Copland knew a change had to be made because he quickly saw how
many composers were working themselves into a vacuum, so he would follow a new path of the more
simplistic American way for much of his life. This simple to understand type of writing is what
brought audiences back and made Aaron Copland great. He started writing functional music like The
Second Hurricane and The Outdoor Adventure for kids, as well as Of Mice and Men, Or Town, North
Star, and The Red Pony for movies; Music For Radio for radio; and a few American folk songs. He
worked specifically with western themes in three major pieces, Rodeo (obvious Western setting), Billy
the Kid (another setting in the farther west), and the ever so famous Appalachian Spring (set in
Pennsylvania when it was still America s frontier).

Airline Battle For Competitive Advantage By Giving...
Abstract
Airlines battle for competitive advantage by giving customers unbelievably low fares at an irresistible
price.
Company Background
In 1967, Air Southwest was incorporated by Rolling King and Herb Kelleher. There was only
$500,000 in the bank and their intentions were to only fly in Texas. After battling legal issues, the
Texas Supreme Court ruled in favor of Air Southwest. In 1971, Lamar Muse became president of Air
Southwest and changed the name to Southwest Airlines. It was not until June 1971 that Southwest
began its service between Dallas, Houston and San Antonio with one way tickets costing $20.
Southwest started out with three Boeing 737 200s with Boeing carrying 90% of the financing. The end
of 1973, Southwest had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Today, Southwest Airlines is considered the world s largest low cost carrier. After just over 44 years of
service, Southwest Airlines has 665 Boeing 737s and employ more than 46,000 people. Southwest has
also expanded outside of Texas, now serving 93 destinations. In 2015, Southwest is looking to expand
even further with destinations in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Belize.
In 2014, it had a record $465 million quarterly net income. Most airlines charge the customer for
anything and everything extra. Southwest Airlines still maintains its loyalty to the customer by
offering low fares and free amenities. It is the only major U.S. carrier that does not charge baggage
fees and change fees. Another perk Southwest offers is that there is no assigned seating. Some
passengers may look at this as a negative because they may get stuck in seating that is not ideal for
them. Also, in 2014, Southwest changed its look and now has a heart emblem on the aircraft as a
symbol of its dedication to connect with customers (Southwest, Corporate).
The roots for Delta Airlines were formed by Huff Daland Dusters, which was formed in 1924 as a

Fashion, cotton, tourism, and textiles have all become so ingrained in Western culture that it is
difficult to imagine these commodities coming from anywhere else. Sugar production and the
distribution of it in European countries, however, came out of the slave trade. As a means to create a
common culture among a people ethnically different, African slaves in the United States re engaged in
traditional musical styles and created some of their own in the process. In Europe, fashion was not
something to be concerned with in the middle class and below, but the rise in the demand of Indian
cotton textiles made the wearing of cottons like chintz to be accessible to the less wealthy. Because the
demand for coal grew and the ability to ship required the development of the steamship, passenger
lines, and what one would now call tourism, became another form of commodity chain. Commodity
chains have inspired and fostered the development of cultural production in both the West and East.
The slave trade is one such commodity chain that fostered the rise of a common culture for the African
slaves in the American South. However, before this could occur, the slave trade had to have an effect
on the architecture of ships in Europe in order for the slave trade to function at all. The demand for
people as a commodity required a vessel that would be optimized for the task of transporting hundreds
of bodies, plus the weight of the crew of this vessel, while also having to account that these

Should Assisted Suicide Be Legalized Essay
In recent years, the number of countries legalizing or considering legalizing doctor assisted suicide
continues to increase notably. While some countries have decriminalized the controversial act of
assisted suicide, in many places it remains illegal. Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and certain
parts of the United States are the only places where, under different terms, doctors are legally allowed
to assist patients who qualify and express a desire to, to end their life due to medical reasons. Though
globally the idea of assisted suicide is becoming less taboo, very few countries have taken steps to
decriminalize it. For various reasons, such as culture and religion, many see assisted suicide as
unethical because they believe that no one has the right to say when someone should die. In addition,
those opposed also believe the option of assisted suicide will result in the exploitation of the health
care system, from patients feeling pressured to opt for assisted suicide, to the opportunity for doctors
to malpractice. However, those who support assisted suicide believe that if a patient decides they want
to end their life they have every right to do so. Others agree with government regulation and
additional controls to ensure assisted suicide remains humane to enable it to be the correct choice for
those suffering. In the limited number of countries which have chosen to legalize ... Show more

Imperialism Annexation
Research Question: To what extent was the annexation of the Philippines a violation of the Teller
Amendment in 1898?
Motives for Imperialism
The conquest of Africa began in 1881 when the king of Belgium sent Henry Morton Stanley to obtain
treaties with the local chiefs to create an imperialized colony triggering various European nations to
follow in the same footsteps.
In the Berlin Conference, the major European nations organized a meeting to split the Africa into
colonies amoungst themselves for economic and political purposes and United States saw themselves
falling behind the imperialist era.
Controversy struck over deciding the status of the Philippines since imperialism could possibly open
doors for new markets and trade possibilities benefiting the economy.
America s Reasons for the Annexation of the Philippines
The U.S. government were stumped with questions on deciding if the Philippines Islands should be
seized or only take the port of Manila as military base leading to major debates of the situation.
According to McKinley, Filipinos were unfit for self government and they would eventually lead into
anarchy and misrule resulting the development of the peace treaty to seize the islands.
McKinley believed the Filipinos needed to be educated and uplifted meaning they needed to be
Christianized which McKinley used as an excuse to annex the Philippines.
Suggestions rose to give back the island to Spain or give it to one of the imperial powers but

truth to the argument, but the question we are gonna consider is the quality of the arguments put forth.
In that area they just slander or do they leave you with information to think about.
One argument we hear time and time again is that videogames and videogame violence alike make the

Anatomy And Physiology Of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Abby Johnson
Mr. Mejewski
Anatomy and Physiology
Hour 4
What does a gardener, an athlete and a carpenter all have in common? Easy, they all have a higher risk
of acquiring tendinitis in their shoulders, more specifically rotator cuff tendonitis. Shoulders are a very
important component to the body, as they allow you to move your arms in any direction you choose.
Seeing that rotator cuff tendinitis is very frequently diagnosed, I was interested to learn more about it
and what makes it so common. A shoulder is one of the most complex joints of the body. The anatomy
of the shoulder starts where the humerus fits into the scapula almost as if it were mimicking a ball and
socket. The scapula has a little tip of itself overlooking the tendons of the shoulder called the
acromion and a bit of itself fanning out, a part called the coracoid. Also connected to the scapula is the
clavicle or collarbone. Another very important component to the shoulder is the rotator cuff, this is the
most vital part to rotator cuff tendonitis. It is composed of four muscles and of various tendons that
surround the shoulder socket that allow it to connect the upper arm and the shoulder blade together.
Protecting the rotator cuff is is a small sac of fluid called a bursa. The humerus fits relatively loosely
into the shoulder joint. This gives the shoulder a wide range of motion, but also makes it vulnerable to
injury. In macroscopic detail, the shoulder looks

Essay On Competitive Strategy
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
If a value creating strategy is implemented by an Organization and it is not being implemented at the
same time by another organization, one can say the organization has a competitive advantage over its
competitors. It is imperative for a firm to choose the height of competitive advantage it wants to attain
in the industry. An organization must aim to initiate a profitable and sustainable spot against your
competitors in the same industry. WHAT IS COMPETITIVE STRATEGY?
Competitive strategies are long term plans/steps by which an organization achieves a competitive
advantage in the market over its rivals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a firm possesses high skilled Human Resource that can successfully implement this strategy, it will
reduce price sensitivity and improve brand loyalty from consumers.
For example, iPhone is so different that even a 5 year old can differentiate it from other phones; its
uniqueness is second to none, which makes it hard for their competitors to overrun them in the market.
This strategy focuses on creating uniqueness such that a firm s product and services are clearly
differentiated from its rivals. Innovation and creativity is the primary focus of this strategy and this
has long been identified as the necessary ingredients to obtaining a competitive advantage.
FOCUS STRATEGY
Focus strategy is a competitive strategy that selects a segment or group of segments in an industry and
focuses its strategy to serving them only. Focus strategy recognizes that selling to a homogenous
customer group may not be very effective for the product and services of the firm. Instead they focus
its marketing efforts on a selected market segments. They identify the needs, wants and interests of the
particular market segments and customize marketing techniques to reflect those needs, wants and
interests.
The above competitive strategies (Cost Leadership strategy, Differentiation strategy and Focus
strategy) can only take place in

Leadership has been described as the process of social influence in which one person is able to enlist
the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task . A definition more inclusive of

way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen.

Consideration includes behavior involved in fostering effective relationships. Examples of such
behavior would include showing concern for a subordinate or acting in a supportive manner towards
others. Initiating structure involves the actions of the leader focused specifically on task
accomplishment. This could include role clarification, setting performance standards, and holding
subordinates accountable to those standards.
Organizations are relying increasingly on teams to improve quality, efficiency, and adaptive change.
Cross functional teams are used to improve coordination among the different parties involved in
carrying out a joint project. Self managed teams are delegated most of the responsibility and authority
traditionally vested in fir line supervisors. Self defining teams represent an extreme form
empowerment, because the team can determine its mission given the ability of the leader.

The Bridge Over The Drina
This quote references Bosnia, yet it does not reference the 1992 genocide. In fact, the author of this
quote died decades before General Josep Tito, decades before the first rumblings of the fall
Yugoslavia, and decades before the first atrocity was committed. In his book, Love Thy Neighbor,
Peter Maass includes this quote from Nobel Prize winning Yugoslav author, Ivo Andrić s novel, The
Bridge over the Drina, to reveal how the seemingly peaceful multicultural arrangement between
Muslims and Christians could devolve so quickly into unimaginable horrors. This devolution is no
new event, however. Andrić s passage describes how there had always been concealed enmities and
jealous and religious intolerance, coarseness and cruelty yet they were restrained by the sense of order
and relative economic prosperity (Maass 11). Relative economic prosperity is why French Christians
did not commit genocide Algerian Muslims. Economic success is the glue that tentatively binds
together different cultures in Europe. As 20th century Europe has seen before, when the economy fails
and populist leaders are able to take power, the bonds of civilization turn out to be surprisingly weak

Aquinas Cosmological Causes
Cosmological comes from the word cosmos which means universe is an orderly system, this definition
fits clearly through out the argument. The Cosmological coincides but also differs from the
Ontalogical argument due to the fact it is inductive, a Pasterori meaning that Aquinas uses empirical
evidence of the universe itself and questioned why it existed. Aquinas wrote the argument in his book
Summa Theologia making a clear link to Aristotles four causes; material, efficient, formal and final.
The causes needed an explanation, Aristotle concluded that this was the Prime Mover, however
Aquinas was a monk in the 15th century and took this point a step further by suggesting that the Prime
Mover was in fact the Judaeo Christian God. In a similar way to the fact Aristotle noticed there was a
change from potential to actuality in the universe, Aquinas noted that objects move and change, they
are subject to cause and effect and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Aquinas second way was that everything has an efficient cause as nothing can be efficient in itself as it
would have to exist prior to itself which is clearly impossible. Aquinas repeats the later part of his first
point by saying once again that infinite regress is not the efficient causes, and thus the cause is the
uncaused causer. For Aquinas this was

Folklore In Fairy Tales
Folklore by definition is: traditional customs, tales, sayings, dances or art forms preserved among a
people. 2) an often unsupported notion, story or saying that is widely circulated (Merriam Webster
Dictionary www.merriamwebster.com/dictionary/folklore). We use folklore in our daily lives without
much thought. Every time we tell a joke, pass long an urban legend, repeat a saying or proverb you ve
heard, as well as every time you read a fairy tale to a child you are using verbal folklore.
Oral traditions and oral lore is passed down through generations, in poetry, tales, jokes, legends,

Hundreds of years of ethnic violence are dredged up at every meet; everyone thinks theirs is the just

Milosevic came in to power in Yugoslavia because of his adept timing to use the 1987 protest by
promoting Serbian nationalism on national television. Milosevic adamantly stated in the interview that
none of his books and speeches discussed a strictly Serbian state. The concept of Greater Serbia was
conceived in 1884 Ilika Garasanin and was the credo for the secret Serb nationalist group the Black
Hand who assassinated Franz Ferdinand . Emulating the same opinion from the Garasanin writing,
Milosevic tried to create a Serbia that had complete control over the Yugoslavian area and discredited
any country that tried to exempt itself out of the reaches of Serbian control. Bosnia and Herzegovina
was illegally proclaimed as an independent state and recognized.
Nationalism had been voiced many time s by Milosevic which he uses to voice out against the
Bosnian state. With the help from Karadzic another person who was indicted for war crimes,
Milosevic was able to gain a stronger foothold in Bosnia Herzegovina. Rape camps were used and

is a young man named Radio who has an intellectual disability. He spends his days pushing around a

field where the team practices every afternoon. One day a football flies over the fence and near where
Radio is standing watching the team and he picks it up and puts it into his cart totally ignoring the
player yelling at him to give it back. A few members of the team then decide to tie him up and put him

intellectual disabilities and treated Radio like he was some horrible, dangerous person. By the end of
the film the whole town had embraced him and even the people like Johnny who bullied him, realized
how much they could truly learn from someone like Radio. That is why I feel like this movie offers
such a great depiction of the disability, because it shows that Radio is just a kind hearted boy who

Example Of Greedy Algorithm
3 Greedy Algorithm
Greedy technique is an algorithm design policy, built on configurations such as different choices,
values to find objective .Greedy algorithms produce good solutions on mathematical problems. The
main aim is to find some configurations that are either maximized or minimized. Greedy Algorithms
provide a solution for optimization problems that has certain sequence of steps, with a set of choices
for each step. Another solution for Greedy algorithm is dynamic programming . It is also used to
determine the best choices. But greedy algorithm always makes the choice that is best at the moment
to provide the optimal solution for the problem. A greedy algorithm for an optimization always
provides the current sub solution. Basically greedy algorithm always gives an optimal solution to the
MST (Minimum Spanning tree)problem. Some Examples that are solved by greedy algorithm are
Dijkstra s shortest path algorithm and Prim/Kruskal s algorithms.
Greedy algorithm technique relies on following elements:
configurations: It consists of different choices, values to apply on data.
objective : some configurations to be either maximized or minimized to get the predefined objective.

Social Disorganization Theory Of Crime In Urban Area
Jack Mort did not have a good relationship with his parents and grew up in a poor neighborhood. This
can help explain why he became a criminal. Social disorganization theory concludes that those who
come from impoverished neighborhoods are more likely to commit crime. The social bond theory
states that those with low levels of commitment, attachment, involvement, and beliefs are more likely
to commit crime. Social disorganization theory has mostly been used to explain crime in urban areas.
Roh (2008) wanted to see if this theory can be used to explain crime in suburban areas. This study
hypothesizes that suburban areas will be the same as urban areas when it comes to crime indicators.
The indicators tested in this theory are poverty, heterogeneity, residential mobility and family
disruption. In this study, they used calls to the police by citizens as their measure of crime. They
analyzed the calls for service of four different cities in Texas that were broken up into 55 separate
block groups. Poverty, heterogeneity, and family disruption all had a positive correlation with the
amount of crime in these suburban blocks. Poverty had the strongest correlation. Residential mobility
was the only factor that did not correctly predict crime. Their findings, except for their results on
residential mobility, support the social disorganization theory s assumptions. Barton (2010) tested the
social disorganization theory on college campuses. The study uses the Unified Crime Report

The Preface By William Lloyd Garrison
The preface by William Lloyd Garrison describes the encounter between Frederick Douglass and
Garrison, at an anti slavery convention. It tells about how this encounter led to a long partnership
between the two as well as Douglass involvement in the Anti Slavery Society. At the convention the
people noticed his appearance as well as his intellectual side. The crowd seemed to respond well to the
idea of protecting Douglass against his owners. In the convent Garrison says Douglass testimony
made the audience question their ideas about black being inferior. Garrison then goes on to talk about
how any inferior ideas about a race are the cause of slavery. He describes the events where a
shipwrecked whites where held as slaves by blacks in Africa because they were seen as inferior. He
then goes on to point of that many slaves have endured a much harsher life then Douglass, and he
points out how murder of slaves was not being investigated. In the preface there was a letter to
Douglass from a Wendell Phillips, addressing Douglass as a friend. He says that he is happy the
writing of former slaves is now being published and able to be but into history. The prior history of
slave owning was by slave owners themselves and they left out very important details. He then goes
on to say that he was astounded at the harsh ways he was treated in an area that was considered a less

the criminal justice agencies, has been a lot. However, it has been the major key to making an

After the ester was isolated a percent yield of 55.1% was calculated from the 0.872 g of ester

If necessary the centrifuge can also be used to further separate the two layers. A final means of drying
the ester product is the addition of granular sodium sulfate. The purity and identity of the product can
be determined through the use of smell, IR spectroscopy and melting point determination. A general
idea of what the ester is can be obtained by smell. Esters can have specific smells and if the scent can
be determined, one may have an idea of the ester was created. IR spectroscopy will identify the bonds
of the functional groups. The ester can be considered pure if there are no additional peaks on the IR
spectrum. For example, if a peak corresponding to an alcohol group appeared on the IR spectrum it
would mean the ester is not completely pure. Melting point can also be used to confirm the identity
and how pure the final product is. Comparison of the experimental melting point and the literature
value allows for determination of how close the experimental value is to the literature value. If the

Table Tennis And Ping Pong
Why is table table tennis so similar to ping pong? Well they are exactly the same thing! Table tennis/
ping pong began in the 1880s, and was later trademarked in the United states by Parker Brothers, the
board game company. Like most other sports, table tennis had humble beginnings as a parlor game but
really it was open to anyone with access to a table, paddle, and a ball. In 1922, The Ping Pong
Association was formed but got renamed to The Table Tennis Association because they are the same
thing. Over the years table tennis popularity grew, table tennis became so popular because In 1902 a
visiting Japanese university professor took the game back to Japan, where he introduced it to
university students. Shortly after, a British salesman, Edward Shires, introduced it to the people of
Vienna and Budapest, [ . . . ]. Due to the popularity of table tennis and how successful it became it in
1902 the sport ended up going to Japan due to a Japanese University professor that was visiting. He
liked the game so much that when he went back to Japan he introduced it to his university students.
The sport also ended up going to Britain and spread pretty far to the Sunderland and Plymouth. In
1922, an All England Club was formed, which boasted such luminaries as Jack Hobbs the cricketer
and other famous names of the time from the world of sport The sport was so popular it was like
modern day drugs (DON T DO DRUGS! I AM NOT PROMOTING DRUGS THEY ARE BAD AND

19 May 2017
.........An analysis of oppression and resistance in Alice Walker s The Colour Purple (1982) and
Lawrence Hill s The Book of Negroes (2007).
Historically, it is widely known that during times of segregation and the slave industry that oppression
was common towards African Americans and that white supremacy was prominent. Alice Walker s
award winning The Colour Purple (1982) is a narrative, told through the perspective of a poor,
uneducated, African American named Celie, who is writing letters to God. Through her letters readers
learn of her abuse, and her experience with being bought and sold away from home, far from the ones
she loves. With that perspective readers are educated on the trials ... Show more content on

Readers are educated on the double edged sword of being both black and a female. Walker does this
by by expressing how gender oppression complicates racial oppression. Black female characters not
only had to face slavery and racism but also sexism and abuse, mentally, physically and sexually. This
was encountered by both white and black male characters. The black males in the novel are portrayed
as cruel, as they live in a world where white men rule and feel like less of a man and because of this
they take out their anger and frustration on the black females. Walker starts her novel with Celie s
letter describing the brutal rape by her father. Walker writes He just say you gonna do what your
mammy wouldn t. First he put his thing up against my hip ... when that hurt I cry. He start to choke
me, saying you better shut up and git used to it. (1) In comparison to the white male characters, Celie s
father feel as if he has very little worth, therefore taking out his frustration on his daughters. Readers
learn that Fonso impregnated Celie twice, disposing of both children, and once he got bored he turned
his attention towards Nettie. Celie is also raped daily by Mr.__. He would try to convince her that
since they are married she is obligated to have sex with him whenever he wants, but when she wouldn
t oblige he would beat her then forcefully rape her. Walker writes Just finish my business, get off and
go to sleep. Mr__ also asserts his male dominance by beating her in front of people. Walker writes, He
beat me today cause he say I winked at a boy in church. I may have got something in my eye but I
didn t wink. I don t even look at mens, I m too scared of them. This quote shows how fearful Celie is
of the male character both black and white. She doesn t say i m scared of white men , she openly
writes of her fear of all men. She s afraid to look or speak with them as she knows it will result

Fat Sick And Nearly Dead Analysis
Hayden Yost Dr. Burns Eng 101 Nov. 15th, 2017 Is Juice Fasting Alone Enough for College Students?
Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving as a first step
towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on the short term
changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To determine whether such a
diet would help college students, one must first look to its results, define what a juice fast is, and its
facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first
started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only attained main stream appeal around the same time as
the release of the 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead , in which a man, Joe Cross,
recognizes the circle of poor habits he s trapped himself in. This, combined with his realizing what is
bound to happen if nothing changes pushes Cross to making the decision to shift his life onto a path
promising a much happier future. The documentary begins with a melancholic but determined Joe
Cross and follows his 60 day travels across the United States sharing his journey, goal, and progress
made under the juice fast. As time passes, the viewer witnesses the changes Cross experiences, as he
grows more optimistic, outgoing, and determined to where he chooses to incorporate regular exercise
alongside his juice fast journey. To say a juice fast provides no benefits would be a

2007-08 Recession
Causes of 2007 08 recession
The major causes of the great recession of 2007 8 were caused by the first subprime mortgages. The
Federal Reserve s failure to curb the unnecessary loans, taking too much risk, financial firms acting
recklessly, explosive mix of borrowing, missing a full comprehension of the financial system and
fissures in accountability formed the backbone of 2007 8 recessions. Moreover, during 2007 8, many
financial institutions lower credit standards to accommodate the large demand for loans securities with
an ill intention to create huge profits to share which greatly became a source for the economic

Consequences of 2007 8 recessions
Unemployment
The recession of 2007 8 resulted in the great number of unemployment as illustrated previous by the
DKs curve that suggested an increase in unemployment leads to decreased inflation (Arnold, 2010).
Many people become jobless as the banks and other financial institutions started focusing over
injecting money into the economy. This problem was to be corrected by reducing government
expenditure. By doing so many people lost jobs and employment was greatly reduced.
Decline in the housing market
The recession greatly affected the housing investments as housing slump was set off. The investors
were unable to flip their homes for a quick profit. Also, the adjustable rates of mortgages were

Similarities Between The Giver And The Lottery By Shirley...
There are always rules in every aspect of society. They govern their subjects strictly and diligently.
People act in different ways to these rules. The Giver, written by Lois Lowry shares the story of a boy
named Jonas who shares his experience in a community very different from one like the world as we
know it. The short story The Lottery , authored by Shirley Jackson tells the tale of an age old tradition
practiced by the citizens of a small community. Both texts share a similar theme of accepting rules and
customs, but the characters react differently towards their leaders when upon the issue of regulations.
In The Giver, society is governed strictly by the town leaders but characters do not protest for their
lack of freedom. His community

  • 2. I Left The Biotech Industry I left the biotech industry in 1995 after working for five years as a biochemist. I was unhappy working in a research laboratory all day with little interaction with people. One night I was watching The Power of Myth program on Public Broadcasting Service TV channel where Bill Moyers was interviewing Joseph Campbell. I heard Mr. Campbell repeat several times a statement that resonated with me follow your bliss he said. For the next several months, it was the only thing that I was thinking. Where is my bliss I kept wondering? My wife was pregnant with my son, and I was stuck in a job that I did not like. Fortuitously, my lab director assigned me to train a group of visiting biologists from England for a week on the use of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I continued teaching for two more years until my daughter was born. During that time, I was voted for three years in a row as Students favorite teacher. However, I grudgingly left teaching to be able financially to support my growing family. I started an environmental consulting business with my wife who is a biochemical engineer and was working as an environmental consultant for a firm in Orange County. For the next eighteen years, I developed and managed a successful company called Ecotek. Though, teaching was always on my mind and the part that I enjoyed the most about Ecotek was the environmental training and the presentations that I did for my clients. My three children are in college now, but four years ago I started hearing that inner voice telling me to follow my bliss. I knew that I wanted to go back to teaching, so I took several assignments as a substitute teacher to see if I have what it takes to be a good teacher. I found out quickly that I want to teach and that I enjoy it, school administrators offered me several long term substitute positions and soon enough, within a year, I left the business to my wife and started teaching biology full time at Lynwood Unified School District. It has been four happy years since I returned to the teaching profession. As a biology teacher at Firebaugh High School, I feel that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Racial profiling and police brutality falls under racial inequality. According to Nazgol Ghandnoosh (2017), Officers racially biased use of discretion either intentional or unintentional is one cause of racial disparities in police contact that are not explained by differences in crime rates (p. 6). When one group is targeted more than another it will cause the group that is targeted the most to have more involvement. The crime rates for black people is higher than those of white people because more black people are arrested than white people. Nazgol Ghandnoosh (2017), states that, Almost ... • 5. Essay about Short Story Short Story It was lying there, the battered and torn body. There was a moment of silence as detective David Whittle and I stared at the body. I could not understand how this had occurred. It had been a fairly quiet day at the station until I had received a phone call from a distressed mother, pleading for us to help. Her voice was hard to understand as she was crying so hard. I traced the call to a small village just on the edge of Brighton, called Linden where a Miss Hutton lived. I had visited Linden before as one of my old friends lived there. It was a quiet little town, which had nothing special about it. It was not far by car but I was confused as to why we were going there, as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What happened? I asked. She said that it had been an ordinary day up until about three o clock when she heard noise coming from upstairs. Well it was just then that I realised that there were more people than just my daughter Victoria upstairs. There was a loud crashing sound and she screamed! I had not any idea that my daughter had just been murdered . Murdered you say . She was still sulking as she said yes Did you see the murderer? I asked. She did not reply but just broke down in tears. Immediately our attention was drawn to the skid marks we had seen on our entry to the house. We examined them and David, being a vehicle expert recognised that they had been left by a transit van. The name Gary popped into mind when he said transit van as he had been known to speed around the local village, and I have arrested him on many occasions. He was a short black haired chubby man who had a distinctive scar down the left side of his face. He always wore jeans that were ripped at the bottom, and he had small brown boots. He was in his middle thirties and was not married. David and I sat in our car and decided to ring the police station and tell them to look for the name Gary Myers in the police record books. Surely enough when they looked they said that he has been in and out of the local police station

It s the New York Stock Exchange and has been trading stocks since 1817. The stock market has a definite impact on our lives (just ask those who lived during The Great Depression.) It is an institution that has made people unfathomably wealthy, along with impossibly poor. Today the New York Stock Exchange has over 2,300 different companies trading stock valued at just over 16 trillion dollars. A company reserves the right to raise and lower the exact amount of the dividend via press releases. The New York Stock Exchange was not always the financial giant it is today. When it first began in May of 1792 it only traded five securities, the first of which was the Bank of New York. At the start only twenty four brokers were allowed to participate in trading. It wasn t until 1817 that the New York Stock Exchange began to embody something close to what we know today. All of the 24 brokers established a constitution of rules with how the exchange must operate. These rules included everything from how one s self could lose their membership to fines for swearing. More importantly though they protected the integrity of the exchange with it s regulations. The New York Stock Exchange has had its fair share of tragedies as well. In 1920 a bomb went off outside of the exchange killing 38 people; the largest act of terrorism on United States soil at the time. The bomber was never apprehended. The most destructive event of the stock exchange s life was the Crash of 1929. After World War I the U.S economy was doing quite well. From the period of 1925 to 1928 the stock prices began to rise rapidly. The stock market appeared to families as a secure, strong means to increase their money. • 8. The Mausoleum Of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi The mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi is one of the world s most precious cultural treasures and its discovery was China s most spectacular archaeological achievement of the 20th century. Good morning everyone, I am Zara Frost, curator of the Museum of Warrior and Horse figures from the tomb of Qin Shihuangdi. Today, I will be personally giving you a tour of the museum and proving to you that funerary evidence reveals that Emperor Qin Shihuangdi had absolute power and control over the people in his dynasty, forcing them to build him an extravagant tomb filled with terracotta warriors to guide him in the afterlife. During the tour, I will be talking about Qin Shihuangdi and how he controlled his dynasty, then I will talk about the terracotta warriors, how they were discovered, made and giving you an insight into their physical characteristics, and lastly, what other items were buried in the tomb with the warriors. Firstly, the first emperor of all of China was named Ying Zheng. He was born in 260BC during a dangerous period of Chinese History. He ascended the throne in 247BC when he was only thirteen years old. In 221 BC, Zheng united all of what is known now as China and renamed himself Qin Shihuangdi, meaning first emperor of Qin . According to Will Durant, American writer, historian, and philosopher, by unifying China, Qin simplified official ceremonies, issued a state coinage, divided most of the feudal estates and paved the way for unity by building great highways ... However, historians have debated over his motives; some consider them to be politically fueled, while others argue that they were based on personal beliefs. After considering the various changes that were brought upon following the conversion, it is clear that while Constantine s efforts were primarily strategically rooted, personal beliefs did play a subsidiary role. Constantine s multifaceted relationship with Christianity first emerged during his days as a successful general. The institution of Constantinople both indicated the break with its pagan past and highlighted its acceptance of Christianity. For example, Constantine did not allow pagan ceremonies in the city. Constantinople flourished as a spiritual and political capital for over a millennium. Constantine was, once again, most probably interested in the strategic location of the city, as it could be effectively used for trade and commercial purposes. When the Buddha rests both hands with the palms facing upwards on his lap, it is called Dhyana Mudra, meaning gesture of meditation. The right hand is on top of the left hand and both thumbs are joined. • 17. Modern Dance, By Miriam Giguere Contemporary dance was developed in the early 20th century as a movement against the rigid technique of ballet (Blackfish Arts Acadamy, 2006). Using the natural lines of the body to create new movements, the contemporary dance style usually has more fluidity than that of conventional dance styles (Freeman, 2013). In the book Beginning Modern Dance , Miriam Giguere says The function of dance is communication. . . . By communication is not meant to tell a story or to project an idea, but to communicate experience by means of action . . . out of this came a different use of the body as an instrument, as the violin is an instrument. Body is the basic instrument, intuitive, instinctive. As a result an entirely contemporary set of technics was evolved. (Giguere, 2014). A forerunner in the changing face of modern dance was choreographer and performer Martha Graham. Graham took up dance at the age of 22, during the time when women were fighting for the right to vote (Mapes, 2013). Being both shorter and older than most dancers, Graham had to use her body in a different way to the others at the Denishawn School of dance. This went against all of the principles that female dancers had originally been taught (Mapes, 2013). Over the duration of her career, Graham created one of the only sets of technique that is still practiced in today s contemporary style (Mapes, 2013). Focusing on two main principles, contraction and release, Graham s technique was strikingly different to that of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Essay on A Great Composer Inspiration may be a form of super consciousness, or perhaps of subconsciousness I wouldn t know. But I am sure it is the antithesis of self consciousness. Only one man could claim the title as probably the greatest composer in American history for writing so many unforgettable works: Aaron Copland. He lived a life inspired by many things as well as inspiring people all across the nation, and it really led to the opposite of being drawn into himself, as he described in the quote above. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 14 in 1900. He was the youngest of five children to Sarah and Harris Copland. A musical spark came out in Copland already at the age of 11 as he began piano lessons with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the 1920 s, Aaron Copland went with the trend and experimented with jazz styles in his music, which proved to be extraordinary in the views of many. His choice for other pieces came through modern music about which he once said, I just happened upon it in the natural course of my musical exploration. This was apparent in the way he would use ideals of Neoclassicism in his Piano Variations. Copland then hit a downfall in about 1936. He wrote a few works which were harder to perform and not taken in by many audiences due to the use of much more advanced techniques which were uncommon for the time. Copland knew a change had to be made because he quickly saw how many composers were working themselves into a vacuum, so he would follow a new path of the more simplistic American way for much of his life. This simple to understand type of writing is what brought audiences back and made Aaron Copland great. He started writing functional music like The Second Hurricane and The Outdoor Adventure for kids, as well as Of Mice and Men, Or Town, North Star, and The Red Pony for movies; Music For Radio for radio; and a few American folk songs. He worked specifically with western themes in three major pieces, Rodeo (obvious Western setting), Billy the Kid (another setting in the farther west), and the ever so famous Appalachian Spring (set in Pennsylvania when it was still America s frontier). ... Company Background In 1967, Air Southwest was incorporated by Rolling King and Herb Kelleher. There was only $500,000 in the bank and their intentions were to only fly in Texas. After battling legal issues, the Texas Supreme Court ruled in favor of Air Southwest. In 1971, Lamar Muse became president of Air Southwest and changed the name to Southwest Airlines. It was not until June 1971 that Southwest began its service between Dallas, Houston and San Antonio with one way tickets costing $20. In 2015, Southwest is looking to expand even further with destinations in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Belize. In 2014, it had a record $465 million quarterly net income. Most airlines charge the customer for anything and everything extra. Southwest Airlines still maintains its loyalty to the customer by offering low fares and free amenities. • 23. Slave Culture And The Slave Trade Fashion, cotton, tourism, and textiles have all become so ingrained in Western culture that it is difficult to imagine these commodities coming from anywhere else. Sugar production and the distribution of it in European countries, however, came out of the slave trade. As a means to create a common culture among a people ethnically different, African slaves in the United States re engaged in traditional musical styles and created some of their own in the process. In Europe, fashion was not something to be concerned with in the middle class and below, but the rise in the demand of Indian cotton textiles made the wearing of cottons like chintz to be accessible to the less wealthy. Because the demand for coal grew and the ability to ship required the development of the steamship, passenger lines, and what one would now call tourism, became another form of commodity chain. Commodity chains have inspired and fostered the development of cultural production in both the West and East. The slave trade is one such commodity chain that fostered the rise of a common culture for the African slaves in the American South. However, before this could occur, the slave trade had to have an effect on the architecture of ships in Europe in order for the slave trade to function at all. The demand for people as a commodity required a vessel that would be optimized for the task of transporting hundreds of bodies, plus the weight of the crew of this vessel, while also having to account that these ... Though globally the idea of assisted suicide is becoming less taboo, very few countries have taken steps to decriminalize it. For various reasons, such as culture and religion, many see assisted suicide as unethical because they believe that no one has the right to say when someone should die. In addition, those opposed also believe the option of assisted suicide will result in the exploitation of the health care system, from patients feeling pressured to opt for assisted suicide, to the opportunity for doctors to malpractice. However, those who support assisted suicide believe that if a patient decides they want to end their life they have every right to do so. Motives for Imperialism The conquest of Africa began in 1881 when the king of Belgium sent Henry Morton Stanley to obtain treaties with the local chiefs to create an imperialized colony triggering various European nations to follow in the same footsteps. In the Berlin Conference, the major European nations organized a meeting to split the Africa into colonies amoungst themselves for economic and political purposes and United States saw themselves falling behind the imperialist era. Anatomy And Physiology Of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Abby Johnson Mr. Mejewski Anatomy and Physiology Hour 4 What does a gardener, an athlete and a carpenter all have in common? Easy, they all have a higher risk of acquiring tendinitis in their shoulders, more specifically rotator cuff tendonitis. Shoulders are a very important component to the body, as they allow you to move your arms in any direction you choose. Seeing that rotator cuff tendinitis is very frequently diagnosed, I was interested to learn more about it and what makes it so common. A shoulder is one of the most complex joints of the body. The anatomy of the shoulder starts where the humerus fits into the scapula almost as if it were mimicking a ball and socket. The scapula has a little tip of itself overlooking the tendons of the shoulder called the acromion and a bit of itself fanning out, a part called the coracoid. Also connected to the scapula is the clavicle or collarbone. Another very important component to the shoulder is the rotator cuff, this is the most vital part to rotator cuff tendonitis. It is composed of four muscles and of various tendons that surround the shoulder socket that allow it to connect the upper arm and the shoulder blade together. Protecting the rotator cuff is is a small sac of fluid called a bursa. The humerus fits relatively loosely into the shoulder joint. This gives the shoulder a wide range of motion, but also makes it vulnerable to injury. In macroscopic detail, the shoulder looks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aquinas wrote the argument in his book Summa Theologia making a clear link to Aristotles four causes; material, efficient, formal and final. The causes needed an explanation, Aristotle concluded that this was the Prime Mover, however Aquinas was a monk in the 15th century and took this point a step further by suggesting that the Prime Mover was in fact the Judaeo Christian God. This can help explain why he became a criminal. Social disorganization theory concludes that those who come from impoverished neighborhoods are more likely to commit crime. The social bond theory states that those with low levels of commitment, attachment, involvement, and beliefs are more likely to commit crime. Social disorganization theory has mostly been used to explain crime in urban areas. Roh (2008) wanted to see if this theory can be used to explain crime in suburban areas. This study hypothesizes that suburban areas will be the same as urban areas when it comes to crime indicators. The indicators tested in this theory are poverty, heterogeneity, residential mobility and family disruption. In this study, they used calls to the police by citizens as their measure of crime. They analyzed the calls for service of four different cities in Texas that were broken up into 55 separate block groups. Poverty, heterogeneity, and family disruption all had a positive correlation with the amount of crime in these suburban blocks. Poverty had the strongest correlation. Residential mobility was the only factor that did not correctly predict crime. • 43. The New Model Intelligence Led Approach As the new lieutenant in charge of policing violent crime in the city, the increase of violent crimes has been brought to my knowledge. Understanding that, some changes will be implementing into our department. For the past two months the amount of knowledge I have encounter when dealing within the criminal justice agencies, has been a lot. However, it has been the major key to making an organization have structure, a mission to oblige by, as well reducing the crime rate effectively. In this dissertation (meeting) a discussion of the new model intelligence led approach will be describe how, along with an example of how well other organization utilizing these concepts to improve the reduction of crimes. Finally, a goal will be presented on how to go about implementing the evidence based practice chosen. In the course of learning these programs, distinguishing the best approach for the department will be difficult at first, but once that portion is articulated, keeping it together and following the rules and regulations are going to be easy, if every individual listens and is willing to be a part of this journey as the unit evolve for the better, and sake of the community. There are many intelligence led approach out there, some only utilize one and others utilized two to three depending on size of the agency. • 44. Fischer Esterification Fischer Esterification of (1,3 Dimethylbutyl) Acetate from 4 Methyl 2 Pentanol Alison Evans Anne Richards TA: Dylan Kahl Tuesday 11:30am 2:20pm 81807 Abstract: An ester was synthesized during an organic reaction and identified by IR spectroscopy and boiling point. Acetic acid was added to 4 methyl 2 pentanol, which was catalyzed by sulfuric acid. This produced the desired ester and water. After the ester was isolated a percent yield of 55.1% was calculated from the 0.872 g of ester recovered. This quantitative error was most likely due to product getting stuck in the apparatus. The boiling point of the ester was 143° C, only one degree off from the theoretical boiling point of the ester 1,3 dimethylbutyl, 144 ° C. The values of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If necessary the centrifuge can also be used to further separate the two layers. A final means of drying the ester product is the addition of granular sodium sulfate. The purity and identity of the product can be determined through the use of smell, IR spectroscopy and melting point determination. A general idea of what the ester is can be obtained by smell. Esters can have specific smells and if the scent can be determined, one may have an idea of the ester was created. IR spectroscopy will identify the bonds of the functional groups. The ester can be considered pure if there are no additional peaks on the IR spectrum. For example, if a peak corresponding to an alcohol group appeared on the IR spectrum it would mean the ester is not completely pure. Melting point can also be used to confirm the identity and how pure the final product is. Comparison of the experimental melting point and the literature value allows for determination of how close the experimental value is to the literature value. If the experimental value is within the range of the literature value, the product can be considered pure. Procedure: A 10 mL round bottom flask was weighed both before and after approximately 1.5 mL of the given alcohol, 4 methyl 2 pentanol, was added. 3 mL of glacial acetic acid, one boiling chip, and 2 3 drops of concentrated sulfuric acid were added to the flask in that order. The reflux apparatus was assembled, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Table Tennis And Ping Pong Why is table table tennis so similar to ping pong? Well they are exactly the same thing! Table tennis/ ping pong began in the 1880s, and was later trademarked in the United states by Parker Brothers, the board game company. Like most other sports, table tennis had humble beginnings as a parlor game but really it was open to anyone with access to a table, paddle, and a ball. In 1922, The Ping Pong Association was formed but got renamed to The Table Tennis Association because they are the same thing. Over the years table tennis popularity grew, table tennis became so popular because In 1902 a visiting Japanese university professor took the game back to Japan, where he introduced it to university students. Historically, it is widely known that during times of segregation and the slave industry that oppression was common towards African Americans and that white supremacy was prominent. Alice Walker s award winning The Colour Purple (1982) is a narrative, told through the perspective of a poor, uneducated, African American named Celie, who is writing letters to God. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Readers are educated on the double edged sword of being both black and a female. Walker does this by by expressing how gender oppression complicates racial oppression. Black female characters not only had to face slavery and racism but also sexism and abuse, mentally, physically and sexually. This was encountered by both white and black male characters. The black males in the novel are portrayed as cruel, as they live in a world where white men rule and feel like less of a man and because of this they take out their anger and frustration on the black females. Walker starts her novel with Celie s letter describing the brutal rape by her father. Walker writes He just say you gonna do what your mammy wouldn t. First he put his thing up against my hip ... when that hurt I cry. He start to choke me, saying you better shut up and git used to it. Walker writes, He beat me today cause he say I winked at a boy in church. I may have got something in my eye but I didn t wink. I don t even look at mens, I m too scared of them. This quote shows how fearful Celie is of the male character both black and white. She doesn t say i m scared of white men , she openly writes of her fear of all men. Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving as a first step towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on the short term changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To determine whether such a diet would help college students, one must first look to its results, define what a juice fast is, and its facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only attained main stream appeal around the same time as the release of the 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead , in which a man, Joe Cross, recognizes the circle of poor habits he s trapped himself in. This, combined with his realizing what is bound to happen if nothing changes pushes Cross to making the decision to shift his life onto a path promising a much happier future. The documentary begins with a melancholic but determined Joe Cross and follows his 60 day travels across the United States sharing his journey, goal, and progress made under the juice fast. As time passes, the viewer witnesses the changes Cross experiences, as he grows more optimistic, outgoing, and determined to where he chooses to incorporate regular exercise alongside his juice fast journey.
