The Theme Of The American Dream In Death Of A Salesman
The American Dream
Willy Loman s was a man like any other trying to obtain the American Dream, and did not care if his
actions hurt his family. He had two sons which he believed were the key to his success, one more than
the other. His wife who was a supporting, stay at home mom,who tried her best to keep the peace in
the house. Willy on the other hand only brought stress and negativity to the home by putting pressure
on his sons to be the best of the best and achieve what he could not achieve. As Willy s begins to be his
own worst enemy, secrets come out and the truth reveal itself which leads Willy to his death.
In the beginning of the play WIlly is introduced as a working father that travels in order to make
money. He has a rocky relationship with his wife and does not even bother to make it better. In the
beginning you notice that Willys wife (Linda) has a great deal of love for Willy. In the play Death of a
Salesman it is written that she more than loves him, she admires him, as though his mercurial nature,
his temper, his massive dreams and little cruelties . Which is sad due to Willy not responding with the
same love he once had for her. Throughout the play you can begin to notice Willy s changes and that
he needs to stop putting so much pressure on himself to try and achieve the American Dream. He
begins to show signs such as I suddenly couldn t drive any more. The car kept going off onto the
shoulder, y know? ,(Music is heard as behind a scrim, to the left of

Closing The Achievement Gap Through Administration
Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration
Patrick Kegley
Texas A M University Commerce Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration
Whether on the scale of a school district, a state, or the nation, achievement gaps exist. Wealth seems
to be the deciding factor, with race coming in at a close second, but these do not (and should not) be
deciding factors. The State of Texas has developed The P 16 Initiative which seeks to close theses
performance gaps between the poor and wealthy. Our textbook reads: The P 16 is an effort to work
with stakeholders collaboratively to foster a more integrated education system, while addressing issues

As with the importance of selecting a highly qualified principal to help raise test scores and closing
achievement gaps, the selection and support of staff is also critical. Gregory F. Branch, Eric A.
Hanushek, and Steven G. Rivkin s 2013 study School Leaders Matter examined the effectiveness of
many principles leadership and the effect they had on student achievement ratings. A primary channel
through which principals can be expected to improve the quality of education is by raising the quality
of teachers, either by improving the instruction provided by existing teachers or through teacher
transitions that improve the caliber of the school s workforce (Branch, pg.4). A principal must be able
to continually seek out professional development, to research best practices and new educational
theories to support their staff and students. If principals are to close the achievement gap, they must be
willing to inform and instruct their staff on new teaching strategies. Mr. Canada, from his TED talk,
Our failing schools. Enough is enough! , states: You go into a place that has failed kids for fifty years
and say: so what s the plan? And they say: Well, we are going to do what we did last year, this year .
What kind of business model is that? (TED, 2013). The principal willing to venture into new,
uncharted waters may succeed or fail, but at least they

Kill A Mockingbird Anticipation Guide
To Kill a Mockingbird Anticipation guide 1. Have you ever stood up for something that wasn t
popular with everyone else? Do you find it difficult to stand up for what you believe of no one else
agrees? Yes, we have all stood up for something that wasn t popular with others. For example, in
elementary school I would try to tell my classmates which bin to throw what garbage in but no one
wanted to take the time to throw things on the right bin. I find it is difficult to stand up for things that
others don t believe because if you are not someone looked up to and your cause is unpopular, no one
will follow Predictions: I can assume that in the story a character will have to choose to stand up for
something that isn t popular with others and will find it difficult to make them agree. 2. Have you ever
embarked on a plan or game that was sure to fail? If so, why did you choose to go ahead with it? Yes, I
have embarked upon a plan that was sure to fail in grade 8. The plan was for the intermediate division
in my school to hide behind the portables after recess as an April fools prank on our teachers. We
chose to go ahead with it anyway to see what the reactions of the teachers were. Predictions: With this
question, it can be assumed that in To Kill a Mockingbird, one will find a character, or multiple
characters will intend to win a no win scenario, back down from it, or find a way to cheat the system.
3. Have you ever experienced prejudice? If so, under what

The Diamond Necklace, By Maupassant
Social classes exists since the years. Some people born rich and their generation stays rich all the time,
while other born poor and all their stays poor all the times. However, there are other people who move
from one class to another. Sometimes this mutation depends on the individual effort. In the Diamond
Necklace, Guy de Maupassant describe the life of Mathilde who born poor and was not happy with
her situation. Since she was unable to switch her social class, she tried for all occasion to appear as
rich women. In this short story, Maupassant shows in different ways why Mathilde should recognize
and accept her social class and live in the level of her class. Maupassant thinks Mathilde should accept
her social class because her honor does not depend to her social class. Also, she should accept her
class because happiness does not depend on the materials things. Finally Mathilde should accept her
social class to avoid the deterioration of her life. First of all, Mathilde should accept her social class
because her honor does not depend on her social class but on her beauty and her intellectually
capacity. People are not respected because they are rich or poor, the beauty of each person is
determinant in how people will respect him. Especially for women in the Mathilde s society there was
neither caste nor rank, for beauty, grace and charm take the place of family and birth (Maupassant).
Since Mathilde had a natural beauty, she should not care about her class. Her

way it has. The mindset of always wanting to be on it can destroy your life routines, makes you put up

unnecessary things they do on the media. Furthermore, Howie writes We expect more from

Essay On Remanufacturing In Nigeria
Remanufacturing has several advantages in today s business world; equipment s that are considered
expensive are produced at an economical cost and also makes for environmental friendly
manufacturing. The aim of this study is to empirically investigate the major drivers for
remanufacturing in Nigeria. From the empirical analysis, it was found that factors which encourages
remanufacturing are economic, environmental and social factors. The methodology employed in this
study is a questionnaire survey method, where the drivers for remanufacturing in Nigeria were
empirically determined. The study contributes to the body of knowledge on remanufacturing in
Nigeria.

Remanufacturing is practiced in industries like automotive, turbines, aerospace industry. A substantial
amount of research has been carried out to study various aspects of remanufacturing process [12, 13],
benefits [14, 15], public attitudes and perception [16, 17] product design [18, 19]. The growth of
population and industrialization which has placed increasingly burden to the environment has led to
importance of sustainable and environmental processes which has increased in the fifty years,
European companies are increasingly made responsible for collecting their End of life products and

Voluntary Arthroplasty Research
As a new graduate working on the Medical/Surgical floor the use of a Continuous Passive Motion
Machines (CPM) in post total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients was essential. Seasoned nurses drilled
onto graduate nurses that the patient had to wear the CPM for a minimum of eight hours per day. As a
new nurse, I did not question the why, nor did I ask if there was data supporting the importance of
using CPM machines.
With evidence based nursing, there is now data conflicting the efficacy of using CPM machines on
post TKA patients. This prompted me to ask the question: In post, total knee arthroplasty patients,

P3 Describe the main physical and technological resources required in the operation of a selected

M1 explain how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve the
performance of a selected organisation.
In this assignment I will describe the main physical and technological resources required in an
organisation, and how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve
the performance of Tesco.
Physical resources
Some of the main physical resources for Tesco are; their premises, machinery, equipment, materials
and their stock. I have listed these as the main resources required as they are huge factoring reasons as
to why and how Tesco makes such huge amounts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Budgets must be closely monitored (and stuck to) in order to fully achieve to the businesses maximum
potential. The processes and internal techniques must be managed and all resources must be
effectively used. It is very important for a business such as Tesco to manage their resources and
control their costs in order to budget. Managing resources and controlling costs to a budget is very
beneficial for Tesco as it involves a lot of different resources and money is always flowing in and out
of the business, which, if managed well, will improve the performance of Tesco.
Managing physical resources is very important as they are essential for the day to day running of the
business. Tescos management should do things such as check their machinery, equipment and
premises regularly to make sure that everything is efficiently working and also to help Tesco improve
their overall performance. It is also very important that Tesco provides employees with suitable
induction and training programmes on how to operate new machinery so they are up to date in the
knowledge of use and know how it can be used most effectively. If an employee isn t familiar with
how to use a piece of machinery, the efficiency of the business will be decreased. Tesco has many
physical resources that should be effectively managed; such as their entrance and reception (customer
services), which should be kept tidy, organised, and any damages (such as the fire damage as a recent

Walt Whitman s Relation to the Romantic Period Essay
The time of Romanticism brought upon many trends extending from the idea of individualism as a
rebellious separation from the classics, an idealistic outlook and finally to a strong religious base.
Most of the writers of the Romantic period followed Pantheism God is everything and everything is
God ... the world is either identical with God or in some way a self expression of his nature (Owen
1971: 74). The idea of Pantheism was that everything in the world worked in unity. In some of the
works of the Romantic period the expression of nature and humans are not separate entities, but one in
the same. Even though in reality it did not work this way Pantheism was the ideal of most these
writers and idealism in itself was yet another trend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem he veers from any pattern and words like, abject louse, and maggot, followed his
reputation of having an angry diction. His work is completely impulsive which was seen as exotic and
passionate, which certainly reflected the period. In his poetry he was said by Norton to stay away
from, making any sense or reason, (Saintsbury, 50).
Walt Whitman also had a strong emphasis on religion as well. In most of his poetry, including `Faces
Whitman tended to speak of sprits and in this particular poem; the Lord and the soul.
The Lord advances, and yet advances;
Always the shadow in front always the reach d hand bringing up the laggards.
(Whitman, `Faces )
The soul is also mentioned earlier in the poem as beautiful, despite the faces he sees which are at most
despising, (Whitman, `Faces ). Whitman was apparently very much intrigued by the soul, he tried to
find a path, to the soul even though he admits that he was not sure what the soul was. However, he
was determined he would find a path between reality and their souls, (Allen, 192). Like most of the
pantheists of his time he wanted to connect many things, reality and the soul; even individualism and
the nation. Whitman quoted, The empowerments of each element of the country individually but at the
same time their merger in the collective empowerment of the nation

Advertising Campaign Is Not An Easy Task
Firms spend large amounts on advertising, estimated to reach $600b in 2015 , this spending represents
sunk costs . Increases in spending will not necessarily prove successful; moreover an effective
campaign will engage consumers and provide positive brand attitudes. For this reason this area of
research is important and should be noted. Increasing the effectiveness of one s advertising campaign
is not an easy task; there are many issues that have to be acknowledged and, more importantly,
understood. A plethora of research has been undertaken regarding consumer behaviour; one only
needs to look at the sheer volume of academic articles and books on the topic. There are however
several categories within consumer behaviour that a firm can target dependant on their product
offering. Exposure, memory and attitude pose these issues. Foremost exposure refers to the process by
which the consumer comes in to physical contact with a marketing stimulus and they can be exposed
to this stimulus during any stage of their decision making process. Exposure is mostly affected by
three factors; the position of the advert in mediums (e.g. TV or print); product distribution; and shelf
placement. Furthermore consumer memory refers to the persistence of learning over time ;
information is retrieved both consciously and unconsciously. Such memories can be retained for any
given period of time and stem from experiences and evaluations. Finally attitude is an evaluation a
consumer expresses

Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating
Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and disordered
eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered eating is almost
the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers from disordered
eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an actual diagnosed eating
disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive
amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or
anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical health consequences. The
National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health consequences associated with AN
and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), severe
dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue, anemia, a lower immune system
function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood, and overall weakness (NEDA). Some
of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent
vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic
ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health
issues can all arise from a BN as well. Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to

The Importance Of School Culture
As mentioned by Peterson, K. D., Deal, T. E. (2009) when it comes to school culture there are many
hidden or not visible aspects that need to be considered. For example, we need to take in consideration
things that will promote or affect commitment, productivity as well as motivation. As Peterson, K. D.,
Deal, T. E. (1999) mentioned, School culture influences what people pay attention to (focus), how they
identify with the school (commitment), how hard they work (motivation), and the degree to which
they achieve their goals (productivity)... For instance something things that we take for granted such
as: manners, way we celebrate others, vision mission, ways we even greet others and even the tone of
voice we use might set the wrong culture. Even though, we are all trying to catch up, we need to take
our time to consider what is important and or might affect our school community. Simple things such
as greeting others, parents, students and staff member need to be our number one priority, having time
to listen to their problems, concerns as well as their ideas will also help us create a positive culture.
We need to listen to those unsaid words, hidden messages, we need to focus on what it is important,
setting up the best learning/teaching/working opportunities for all community members. As school
leaders we need to understand, that our voice tone, facial gestures, comments as well as preoccupation
for getting better professional development opportunities, parental involment even the way we
motivate others will become the mirror image we see in others.
Our school is doing many things to foster our vision and mission which is All students are getting the
best learning opportunities... As part of this, the school is running before and after school extended
learning programs in which some students, those whose reading performance is under grade level, will
be invited and motivate to assist. Teachers are having conversations with parents to help them
understand the importance of this initiative. Posters, flyers as well as information had been sent home.
Another way that our school is trying to promote our vision and mission is through the Literacy

The Importance Of Freedom Of Speech
Is it possible to imagine a civil democratic society without freedom of speech? The right of speech is
one of the most valuable integrity a human being can have in this world. Precisely, this is an
opportunity given by the right to talk open minded and give opinions about particular situations.
However, what are the impacts on a total society of assuring the right of free speech?
As far as I am concerned, free speech provides a check on corrupt, inefficient leadership and
administrative personnel. Moreover, it is indirectly responsible for the higher standards of living to the
extent that free speech promotes scientific discovery and dissemination, more effective means toward
given societal goals, and more efficient governmental personnel. Some critics of free speech may
argue that it leads to political instability and revolution as well. Freedom of speech exists mostly in
democratic countries. In these particular countries politicians come into force through disputes and
discussions. However, freedom is an important section of democratic society and in this case, it is
considered as an affirmative right. If we take into account not only political life, we have to agree with
the point that freedom of speech and thoughts is crucial for growth. Again, new ideas are born through
arguments and discussions and this is the key to prosperity. Diversity of viewpoints and opinions
create conditions that are ideal for evolution, progress and development.
Indeed, there are other rights of freedom a human being can possess. Such as, freedom of press,
worship, and religion etc. The fundamental right of the freedom of press implicit in the right the
freedom of speech and expressions, is crucial for the political prosperity and proper functioning of
democracy. Freedom of press is the center of social and political bonds. It is the principal duty of the
courts to support the freedom of press and invalidate all laws or administrative actions, which
intervene with it contrary to the constitutional mandate. Though, government do not hold monopoly
for social media. A citizen has radical right to use the best means of transferring and obtaining
information and have access telecasting for the purpose. Commercial advertisements

The Shrike was the world s first dedicated anti radiation missile. Based upon the AIM 7 Sparrow air
air missile, the Shrike incorporated a new guidance system which allowed it to home onto radar
systems such as the Fan Song that was used with the SA 2. As Weasel Don Kilgus recalls, the Shrike
changed the nature of the mission because it allowed the Weasels to attack SAM sites from afar and
with a greater probability of disabling the target. The Shrike was not without limitations. Relatively
short ranged and with a small warhead, it required pilots to expose themselves to the very SAM they
wanted to destroy. Additionally, the Shrike lacked the ability to remember the location of an emitted

One Weasel recalled Lyndon Johnson pronouncing, them boys over there can t bomb an outhouse

only half heartedly and ignored the broader global political context in which the war was fought. The
geopolitical context of the war dictated a measured response to perceived communist aggressions. Just
three years prior, the world had been almost driven to nuclear holocaust because of the Cuban Missile
crisis, and America s strategic forces remained on high alert. For example, during Operation Chrome
Dome, B 52 strategic bombers carrying nuclear weapons remained airborne continuously flying routes
over the arctic from 1961 through the entirety of Rolling Thunder. Because of the simmering Cold
War, Johnson and McNamara favored restraint over a more aggressive approach prosecuting the war
in Vietnam and specifically to combat the SAM threat. A visceral hatred of Johnson and McNamara
grew as Rolling Thunder progressed. When a New York Times article titled How Johnson Makes
Foreign Policy was published, pilots mocked the breakfast meetings over which targets were selected
and policy decisions were made. As Billy Sparks lamented, The major problem with Rolling Thunder
from day one was that the targets we were assigned made zero sense ... I think my mother could have

and San Francisco, CA closer to the hubs of other known high tech companies and innovation. The
goal of these moves is to re define the company as a true high tech company with a focus on health
care as opposed to a health care revenue cycle vendor that has technology. They also want to take
advantage of the local IT talent pool and attract the best and brightest.
The company s portfolio has always included a software and hardware component, but has recently
changed its platform to SaaS (software as a service). The SaaS solution is typically accessed by
customers using a web service and has become a common delivery model for many business
applications (Wikipedia, 2015). This change has allowed the company to start moving away from
costly, difficult and hard to maintain software/hardware implementations.
Unfortunately, during this transition to the new platform lots of customers will still need to use the
legacy software and hardware. The company will have to continue to maintain these solutions until all
customers have successfully moved to the new platform. Sun setting legacy solutions has not been
easy for this company to accomplish and they have to spend lots of resources maintaining older

Fitness
Obesity is a very common problem faced, which if not taken care of in time, can lead to many lifestyle
diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Engaging in physical activities help to burn
calories and lose fat. Regular exercising builds muscles, makes the immune system strong and
improves upon stamina. This increases the fitness levels and keeps various diseases and health
conditions in check.
It Builds Self Esteem
Students who are active in physical activities like basketball, volleyball, martial arts and running just
to name a few are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies. It s
probably because of the self discipline and dedication to excel in a sport that brings out the best in
students. In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students
allowing them to make choices to which sport areas they want to get involved in.

By participating in various sports, a student gets to learn so many things about life. A student wins

causing the beam to be in tension. Their bridges were made with only paper with tape holding it

no reinforcements, their bridge collapsed under the weight put on it. Other groups tried to make a

Censorship In The Social Media Age
Censorship that has been in the world and in the United States, since the fifteenth century, has grown
sufficiently. Since many years have past subsequently film, radio, and different platforms of social
media have all been censored because more and more technology is not appropriate for kids. Although
many people think that censorship has changed the media platforms, it s actually the other way
around. Media platforms have changed censorship throughout the years by switching up social media,
news, government, and privacy concepts.
Social media has shaped censorship over the years by introducing new applications to our phones and
computers. One event that has shaped it was in 2016, when Dan Ilic s video was taken down from a
social media site a few second after Mr. Ilic posted it, the video had already been on that same social
media site in 2011 and was not taken down till then. Gourarie wrote this article called Censorship in
the Social Media Age which explains the events of Dan Ilic s video. The video titled Is Labiaplasty the

video was removed and he was banned from logging in for 24 hours. (Gourarie). This quote from
Gourarie supports the claim by stating that the video was put up, however, then taken down due to
censoring people from the title.

United States Second War for Independence from the British. After the War of 1812 there were major
consequences that would change the lives of the Americans forever. Both industry and foreign
relations were heavily impacted after the war. Industry flourished with new technology, the idea of
interchangeable parts and the cotton gin. The cotton gin saved valuable time and interchangeable parts
made mass manufacturing easier for things like guns and shoes. Foreign relations also improved with
the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 and the Manifest Destiny in 1840. (Tell me how briefly, so one brief
example each) In the 1800 s the United States economy was thriving due to an increase in domestic
trade and mass manufacturing, while foreign relations improved, and a friendship with Great Britain
was made.
Prior to the War of 1812 America attempted to remain neutral regarding the war between Great Britain
and France. George Washington, who was president at the time, even created the Neutrality
Proclamation in an effort to keep the young nation out of conflicts abroad. However, persistent
harassment from Great Britain and France at sea, including trade restrictions and impressment, caused
America s neutrality to be threatened. Both countries did this by blockading ports of trade and by
creating commercial sanctions. Foreign trade had been booming prior to the war for the United States;

Stranger Danger Research Papers
Stranger danger is a term that we learned as children in elementary school. Even though we re taught
to never talk to or trust strangers, doing so has almost become an instinct. When I walk out to the
mailbox at the end of my driveway, I m expecting to see some bills, some magazines, and if I m lucky,
something that I ordered off Amazon. Everyday we are relying on that mail carrier not to do certain
things: lose or damage any mail. Placing faith in strangers has become an everyday event because we
have to in order to have an easier and better experience on earth. Not only do we trust strangers with
our mail, but we also put them in charge of cleaning the rooms we stay in.
To begin, we all at one point stayed at some sort of hotel. When my family checks in and we get our
room key, we are expecting to see the carpet vacuumed, the toilets scrubbed to a pristine white, and
most importantly: bedsheets that lack bedbugs and long black hairs. But knowing if the maid changed

When it s time to get the antifreeze filled or the oil changed or maybe a tire rotation, you pull your car
into the 10 minute service building, like Jiffy Lube. After we hand over the keys and wait for the
vehicle to be done, an employee may tell us that the rear axle needs to be balanced, the engine filter
needs to be replaced, and that the engine belt has gone bad. Surely, that person will say to replace it all
because the worker said to. Then we have to sit there for years just to get your car fixed. We are
trusting that the worker is tightening all the bolts and doing the imperative repairs correctly, not just
rushing to get the job done fast. Unfortunately, some people face the problem of a dishonest worker.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that consumers lose tens of billions of

Men s Lacrosse Research Paper
Lacrosse was created by the Algonquian tribe in the St. Lawrence Valley and spread to the Midwest.
They played with wooden sticks and a wooden ball. The only rule was to not touch the ball with your
hands. Lacrosse became very popular in Canada when a dentist founded the Montreal Lacrosse Club
in 1856. They redesigned the stick and the ball in 1866. Lacrosse was so popular it became Canada s
national sport. Games were played all across Europe and became an Olympic sport in 1904. Men s

What Was The Causes Of The World War Essay
It all started on September 30th, 1938 when France, Germany and Great Britain signed the Munich
Agreement. This agreement gave Germany the authority to take over a part of Czechoslovakia known
as Sudetenland. The two allies hoped that Hitler would be satisfied and leave them out of the war.
Hitler however, went against the agreement and having invaded Sudetenland, went further and
invaded the whole of Czechoslovakia. On September 1st, 1939, almost one year after the Munich
agreement German invaded Poland, World War II had begun. Causes of World War II There are many
causes of the war. Some date back to the end of World War I and the peace that followed in 1919. It
led to the formation of new country borders and in turn, the face of Europe. Countries like Germany

although they could have been easily defeated, Britain and France chose not to start another war.
Hitler went on further and made two alliances with Italy and Japan, Rome Berlin Axis pact and Anti
Comitern respectively. Hitler s next step was to take back what had been taken away from Germany.
His troops marched into Austria in 1938. He went on to promise the allied nations that Austria was the
end of his expansionist aims but six months later demanded that Sudetenland region of
Czechoslovakia be handed over to Germany. Britain s Prime Minister reached an agreement known as
the Munich Agreement baring Hitler from taking over more than the Sudetenland region. Hitler went

The Pros Of Construct Validity
Any time a test is conducted, one of the major concerns is if the test is valid or not. Testing the validity
of a test is the measurement of how well what is being tested is measured. For example, a test might
be designed to measure a stable personality trait but instead measure transitory emotions generated by
situational or environmental conditions. A valid test ensures that the results are an accurate reflection
of the dimension undergoing assessment (Cherry, 2016). There are two main types of validity: content
related validity and criterion related validity.
Content related validity includes face validity and constructs validity. Face validity ask the question
does this test what is supposed to be tested. According to Saul McLeod, ... Show more content on

This type of validity refers to the extent to which a test captures a specific theoretical construct or trait,
and it overlaps with some of the other aspects of validity. Construct validity does not concern the
simple factual question of whether a test measures an attribute (Cronbach Meehl, 1955). To test for
construct validity it must be demonstrated that the phenomenon being measured actually exists. So,
the construct validity of a test for intelligence, for example, is dependent on a model or theory of
intelligence. Construct validity entails demonstrating the power of such a construct to explain a
network of research findings and to predict further relationships. The more evidence a researcher can
demonstrate for a test s construct validity the better. However, there is no single method of
determining the construct validity of a test. Instead, different methods and approaches are combined to
present the overall construct validity of a test. For example, factor analysis and correlational methods
can be used (McLeod, 2013). The method is imperative to predicting the future potential of
candidates. Because the more information that can be produced by the construct validity test the more
material can be used to forecast the individual

Essay on Women in Music Entertainment
Women in Music Entertainment
There are so many talented female artists in music today that it s hard not to think of some right off the
top of my head. Not only do they have great voices, but they re successful and confident, not to
mention pretty darn rich! Some of these artists knew that they were going to become a star while they
were still in diapers. The two females that I will be highlighting are two of the younger musical talents
that are out in the industry at this time. They both worked hard to get to where they are today by
starting off with many of the same dreams and aspirations many of us women share. These women
have contributed so much at such a young age that it s almost hard to believe. Music is such a ... Show

Now, at the age of 20 in the year 2001, releasing her Debut CD Songs in A Minor, Alicia Keys is still
rising. Her CD has already gone triple platinum, (the first number 1 album for her new label). She has
also won the 2001 Best New Artist MTV video music award. Her music is incredible, with well
written and very wise lyrics. Her sound is very unique and different from many of the artists out there

Her new single out at this moment is called A Woman s Worth, and ladies, I recommend you listen to
it. Do not let that significant other take advantage of you. It s basically telling all the men out there to
treat their woman with respect. She sings lines like You will lose if you choose to refuse to put her
first, she will, and she can find a man who knows her worth. One listen to this album and you ll be
very pleased with the quality and soulful sound of her beautiful voice!
The next artist is not new, and has actually been in the game for a while now! With her charismatic

Creek. Lake Michigan s effect on temperatures results in slightly warmer winters and cooler summers.
This can be displayed in the average winter temperature of Plaster Creek which was recorded to be
twenty two degrees fahrenheit and an average summer temperature of seventy one degrees fahrenheit.
The climate surrounding Plaster Creek receives a fair amount of precipitation, with average rainfall
totaling approximately thirty six inches and an average snowfall which is estimated to be about
seventy eight inches. The topography surrounding this twenty six mile stream varies greatly. One
element that unifies the topography of Plaster Creek is the presence of large rocks and boulders. This

January, 1795, By Mary Robinson
In the poem January, 1795 by Mary Robinson, she writes about people living in luxury while others
are in poverty. She shows this throughout, such as, Lords in ermine, beggars freezing . The world
around her seemed to be expanding while the rich try to keep up with the new advances while going
bankrupt from their lifestyle in the process. While the poor remain in poverty and seek opportunity as
they beg on the streets or seek shelter, they are overlooked by the wealthy. Robinson describes this as
a very cold and dark time for everyone but she seems to still find the beauty out of the worst
situations.
Robinson describes some social and moral issues throughout this dark time as people struggle to keep
their image and class in society. In line 11 Robinson demonstrates the distinction between the social
classes, while the wealthy people seem to be enjoying themselves and unbothered by the rest of less
fortunate suffering through hard times, Balls, where simp ring misses languish; Hospitals, and groans

reflect the philosophy and value of the world? No matter you are eastern or western people, paintings

Abstract expressionism is the pioneer of western abstract painting style. It was to use exaggerating
brushwork to express emotions, so it is similar to Xieyi. However, the level of thinking may be quite
different. Most of the artists would like to express their personal feelings like happiness, sadness rather
than national feelings by using objects.(Seitz,1983) By contrast, Color field painting was the
development of Abstract expressionism and the purpose was similar in addition to the fact that
background was tremendously crucial. (Wilkin,2007) The only difference is that the subject matter in
color field painting is the color, the object is not necssarily important.(Artstory foundation) Willem De
Kooning represented the Abstract expressionism while Kenneth Noland represented the color field
painting.Willem De Kooning was the prominent Abstract expressionism painters and urgely objected
to the restrictions imposed by naming movements. He said I m not interested in abstracting or taking
things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I paint this way because I can keep

Coming into 1985, the Soviet Union was a closed off society which had suffered under the leadership
of old, delusional men. It was clear that, as Mikhail Gorbachev himself said the night before being
appointed the head of the Communist Party, We can t go on living like this (Gaddis, 229). Mikhail
Gorbachev was a relatively young and educated leader, ready to change the USSR for the better. But it
is here attempting to juggle his new social reform policies and his desire to stay in power that
Gorbachev stumbled. By the end of 1991, it was evident that Gorbachev was not a good juggler at all

The biggest was his decision to not use force in the internal affairs of other communist states (Gaddis,
239). Hence, the 1989 revolutions occurred whereby communism rule ended in Eastern Europe. On
August 24, 1989, the first non communist government in postwar Eastern Europe took power in
Poland (Gaddis, 241). The revolutionary feeling quickly spread to Hungary, East Germany,
Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and Romania and by the end of 1989, the Soviets had lost all control and
influence over their Eastern Europe satellites. Thus, it is understandable why many in the USSR
perceived this as a weakness and blamed Gorbachev. Furthermore, as the free flow of information
continued and new freedoms allowed people within the Soviet Union to explore their cultural identity
in a political context, republics within the USSR started to push for independence too. Gorbachev s
power was diminishing, accelerated by the rising popularity of Russian nationalist Boris Yeltsin and
other political opponents. In short, the loss of the Eastern Bloc increased nationalist and revolutionary

Mainstream Schooling Is Culturally Bound
In this essay I will address the ways in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, and why this
is a problem for those who have disabilities. Mainstream schools can be determined as a school of
traditional education or a normal school (Spielgaben, 2015). This categorises mainstream schools
within New Zealand as schools of English medium that follow the New Zealand Curriculum and are
state schools. These English medium schools work with the National Standards system which set
specific expectations for students to have met in the key learning areas of reading, writing and
mathematics (Ministry of Education, 2012). This system is just one of the ways in which mainstream
schooling is culturally bound. The Oxford Dictionaries (2015) defines culturally bound as restricted in
character or outlook by belonging or referring to a particular culture. Due to these schools following
particular systems it makes it difficult to cater to the different groups that attend these schools. The
second way in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, that I will address, is that most often
teachers in these schools do not have the time, resources or skills to teach the diversity of disabilities
due to a stronger focus of teaching by the curriculum. This results in more efforts needing to be made
to support those with disabilities. I will focus on the common disabilities and special needs in the
context of students in mainstream schools, such hearing impairments, physical and

Essay On Water Pollution
Chapter One
The Problem and Its Setting
Water is essential to life. It provides an efficient way to transfer substances from a cell to the cell s
environment. Which is why there is usually no positive impacts when referring to water pollution as it
is a major global problem. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies. It exist as a result of
harmful substances being inserted into water bodies whether purposely or accidently. When observed
it has an affect on the entire ecological system, and most occurrences negatively impact whole species
as it is the leading cause of death and disease. On account of water being an vital component of life on
Earth, if it is indeed contaminated, it will deplete the health of the plant and every living thing on it.
Background of the Study
Water pollution can affect the macroinvertebrates that live in the water and they can become
contaminated. When the consumption of influenced macroinvertebrates occur and travel throughout
the food chain based around the body of water, toxins that contaminated the supply are now spread.
The water quality can determine which type of macroinvertebrates inhabit the bodies of water because
there are pollution sensitive and pollution tolerant macroinvertebrates. If the bodies of water are only
inhabited by pollution tolerant macroinvertebrate that suggest that the water is highly contaminate and
those are the only macroinvertebrates that can survive there. Although, if there is a balance of both

The Birth Control Of Women
Appropriately called by some one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World, the birth control pill
has absolutely revolutionized the lives of women around the globe. As an effective means to control if
and when a woman has a child, the pill opened up doors to spaces where women weren t allowed
prior. A person controlling their own fertility is an essential component of creating economic security,
limiting unwanted pregnancies, and creating healthier families. There are many new options for
contraception for women today, but the pill was the original catalyst in the United States for women
claiming control over their fertility, career, and overall health status. The concept of family planning
can be traced back to a nurse, sex educator, and political activist names Margaret Sanger. Born in 1879
to a large family (and her mother subsequently died during Margaret s birth), she was passionate about
the ability for women to control their fertility and own their sexuality. Sanger is credited with opening
the first birth control clinic in the United States in 1916 (Planned Parenthood, 2013). She went on to
found the American Birth Control League, which eventually became Planned Parenthood. Fighting for
reproductive justice through advocacy and clinics was just the beginning, however, as Sanger had an
ultimate goal: a birth control pill. Being the dream she always wanted to have realized, Sanger teamed
up with an experimental biologist and friend, Katherine Dexter

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
A Brief Introduction To
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
By Wayne Froggatt
Third Ed.(this version Feb 2005)
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is based on the concept that emotions and behaviours
result from cognitive processes; and that it is possible for human beings to modify such processes to
achieve different ways of feeling and behaving. REBT is one of a number of therapies that come under
the heading cognitive behavioural .
In the mid 1950 s Dr. Albert Ellis, a clinical psychologist trained in psychoanalysis, became

defeating rather than irrational , to emphasise that the main reason for replacing a belief is because it
negatively affects their lives.
Two Types of Disturbance
REBT suggests that human beings defeat or disturb themselves in two main ways: (1) by holding
irrational beliefs about their self (ego disturbance) or (2) by holding irrational beliefs about their
emotional or physical comfort (discomfort disturbance). Frequently, the two go together people may
think irrationally about both their selves and their circumstances though one or the other will usually

demands about one s self , e.g. I must ... do well / not fail / get approval from others ; followed by
negative selfevaluations such as: When I fail / get disapproval / etc. this proves I am no good and so
on. These beliefs create ego anxiety emotional tension resulting from the perception that one s self or

Kevin Hart Essay
For my research, I chose the comedian Kevin Hart. I chose Mr. Hart due to the fact that many of his
standup comedy acts appeal to me, and are relatable to my life. A lot of comedians create humor at the
expense of others, but Kevin Hart tends to keep it centered on his family, and events that have
happened in his life. I can relate to the events that he makes light of, and it makes it the humor more
appealing to me specifically. Both the fact that his home life, and his physical appearance are the basis
of his routines make more sense than some of the other standup comedy acts I have observed. At this
stage, I do not know much about Kevin Harts life, besides what he has included in the sets that I ve
watched. Some of the things that I have learned is that he had a troubled childhood due to his father s
life choices. His father was an addict, and had altercations in bars, which Kevin witnessed and made
jokes to deal with it. He also has two kids, a boy and a girl, which sometimes are brought up in the
standup sets, mostly at the expense of the children. The majority of Kevin s appeal is centered around
his height, which is a commonly referenced joke both by himself, and others, which does not seem to

The Destruction Of Society In Lord Of The Flies By William...
Humans kill, whether it be animals, insects or people. The justice system is used to try and fix what
others have done and in this way they are punished. They are punished in a functioning society with
rules and laws, but when all that is stripped away, we are left with mass destruction and humans that
kill. The novel Lord of the Flies, published in 1954 and written by Nobel Prize winning author,
William Golding, portrays the violence and eradication of a functioning society through young boys
stranded on an island. Golding uses the symbol fire and forgetfulness of the need for it to develop the
theme of the loss of society and creation of uncivilized destruction.
Ralph as chief in the beginning of Lord of the Flies uses fire to fuel his main goal as a leader, which is
to get back home. He treats the fire as a necessity and one of the most important assets on the island.
Ralph uses the smoke from the fire as a safety net that keeps him comfortable and with the hope of
getting home. He says, And we ll be responsible for keeping a lookout too. If we see a ship out
there...we ll put green branches on. Then there ll be more smoke (Golding 43). Ralph emphasizes the
need for the smoke as he sees this as one of the only ways that they will ever be rescued. Ralph is still
full of hope for life and escaping. This fire will keep them safe and this fire will rescue him and all of
the others. As chief, he wants others to have the same hope about being saved that he does which is

Closing The Achievement Gap Through Administration Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration Patrick Kegley Texas A M University Commerce Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration Whether on the scale of a school district, a state, or the nation, achievement gaps exist. Wealth seems to be the deciding factor, with race coming in at a close second, but these do not (and should not) be deciding factors. The State of Texas has developed The P 16 Initiative which seeks to close theses performance gaps between the poor and wealthy. Our textbook reads: The P 16 is an effort to work with stakeholders collaboratively to foster a more integrated education system, while addressing issues of college readiness standards, teacher education, and educational ... As with the importance of selecting a highly qualified principal to help raise test scores and closing achievement gaps, the selection and support of staff is also critical. Gregory F. Branch, Eric A. Hanushek, and Steven G. Rivkin s 2013 study School Leaders Matter examined the effectiveness of many principles leadership and the effect they had on student achievement ratings. A primary channel through which principals can be expected to improve the quality of education is by raising the quality of teachers, either by improving the instruction provided by existing teachers or through teacher transitions that improve the caliber of the school s workforce (Branch, pg.4). A principal must be able to continually seek out professional development, to research best practices and new educational theories to support their staff and students. If principals are to close the achievement gap, they must be willing to inform and instruct their staff on new teaching strategies. Mr. Canada, from his TED talk, Our failing schools. Enough is enough! , states: You go into a place that has failed kids for fifty years and say: so what s the plan? And they say: Well, we are going to do what we did last year, this year . • 4. Kill A Mockingbird Anticipation Guide To Kill a Mockingbird Anticipation guide 1. Have you ever stood up for something that wasn t popular with everyone else? Do you find it difficult to stand up for what you believe of no one else agrees? Yes, we have all stood up for something that wasn t popular with others. For example, in elementary school I would try to tell my classmates which bin to throw what garbage in but no one wanted to take the time to throw things on the right bin. I find it is difficult to stand up for things that others don t believe because if you are not someone looked up to and your cause is unpopular, no one will follow Predictions: I can assume that in the story a character will have to choose to stand up for something that isn t popular with others and will find it difficult to make them agree. 2. Have you ever embarked on a plan or game that was sure to fail? If so, why did you choose to go ahead with it? Yes, I have embarked upon a plan that was sure to fail in grade 8. The plan was for the intermediate division in my school to hide behind the portables after recess as an April fools prank on our teachers. We chose to go ahead with it anyway to see what the reactions of the teachers were. Predictions: With this question, it can be assumed that in To Kill a Mockingbird, one will find a character, or multiple characters will intend to win a no win scenario, back down from it, or find a way to cheat the system. 3. Have you ever experienced prejudice? If so, under what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sometimes this mutation depends on the individual effort. In the Diamond Necklace, Guy de Maupassant describe the life of Mathilde who born poor and was not happy with her situation. Since she was unable to switch her social class, she tried for all occasion to appear as rich women. In this short story, Maupassant shows in different ways why Mathilde should recognize and accept her social class and live in the level of her class. Maupassant thinks Mathilde should accept her social class because her honor does not depend to her social class. Also, she should accept her class because happiness does not depend on the materials things. Finally Mathilde should accept her social class to avoid the deterioration of her life. First of all, Mathilde should accept her social class because her honor does not depend on her social class but on her beauty and her intellectually capacity. People are not respected because they are rich or poor, the beauty of each person is determinant in how people will respect him. Especially for women in the Mathilde s society there was neither caste nor rank, for beauty, grace and charm take the place of family and birth (Maupassant). • 10. Walt Whitman s Relation to the Romantic Period Essay The time of Romanticism brought upon many trends extending from the idea of individualism as a rebellious separation from the classics, an idealistic outlook and finally to a strong religious base. Most of the writers of the Romantic period followed Pantheism God is everything and everything is God ... the world is either identical with God or in some way a self expression of his nature (Owen 1971: 74). The idea of Pantheism was that everything in the world worked in unity. In some of the works of the Romantic period the expression of nature and humans are not separate entities, but one in the same. Even though in reality it did not work this way Pantheism was the ideal of most these writers and idealism in itself was yet another trend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the poem he veers from any pattern and words like, abject louse, and maggot, followed his reputation of having an angry diction. His work is completely impulsive which was seen as exotic and passionate, which certainly reflected the period. In his poetry he was said by Norton to stay away from, making any sense or reason, (Saintsbury, 50). Walt Whitman also had a strong emphasis on religion as well. In most of his poetry, including `Faces Whitman tended to speak of sprits and in this particular poem; the Lord and the soul. The Lord advances, and yet advances; Always the shadow in front always the reach d hand bringing up the laggards. (Whitman, `Faces ) The soul is also mentioned earlier in the poem as beautiful, despite the faces he sees which are at most despising, (Whitman, `Faces ). Whitman was apparently very much intrigued by the soul, he tried to find a path, to the soul even though he admits that he was not sure what the soul was. • 11. Advertising Campaign Is Not An Easy Task Firms spend large amounts on advertising, estimated to reach $600b in 2015 , this spending represents sunk costs . Increases in spending will not necessarily prove successful; moreover an effective campaign will engage consumers and provide positive brand attitudes. For this reason this area of research is important and should be noted. Increasing the effectiveness of one s advertising campaign is not an easy task; there are many issues that have to be acknowledged and, more importantly, understood. A plethora of research has been undertaken regarding consumer behaviour; one only needs to look at the sheer volume of academic articles and books on the topic. There are however several categories within consumer behaviour that a firm can target dependant on their product offering. Exposure, memory and attitude pose these issues. Foremost exposure refers to the process by which the consumer comes in to physical contact with a marketing stimulus and they can be exposed to this stimulus during any stage of their decision making process. Exposure is mostly affected by three factors; the position of the advert in mediums (e.g. TV or print); product distribution; and shelf placement. Furthermore consumer memory refers to the persistence of learning over time ; information is retrieved both consciously and unconsciously. Such memories can be retained for any given period of time and stem from experiences and evaluations. Finally attitude is an evaluation a consumer expresses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Eating Disorder And Disordered Eating Another issue that seems to be prevalent is the distinction between an eating disorder and disordered eating. These two are frequently misunderstood and used out of context. Disordered eating is almost the same thing as an eating disorder with a few differences. Someone who suffers from disordered eating is someone who does the same things as someone who suffers from an actual diagnosed eating disorder but with less frequently. An example of this would be purging after eating an excessive amount of food. Those who suffer from disordered eating often times have a history of depression or anxiety. In addition to mental health consequences, ED have physical health consequences. The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some health consequences associated with AN and BN. For AN, health consequences include reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), severe dehydration, which can result in kidney failure, fainting, fatigue, anemia, a lower immune system function, slowed heart rate, even poor circulation of the blood, and overall weakness (NEDA). Some of the physical effects for BN are inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting, chronic irregular bowel movements and constipation as a result of laxative abuse, and peptic ulcers and pancreatitis. (NEDA). Premature birth, muscle fatigue, tooth decay, and mental health issues can all arise from a BN as well. Multiple studies and reviews have been conducted to investigate the ... • 13. The Importance Of School Culture As mentioned by Peterson, K. D., Deal, T. E. (2009) when it comes to school culture there are many hidden or not visible aspects that need to be considered. For example, we need to take in consideration things that will promote or affect commitment, productivity as well as motivation. As Peterson, K. D., Deal, T. E. (1999) mentioned, School culture influences what people pay attention to (focus), how they identify with the school (commitment), how hard they work (motivation), and the degree to which they achieve their goals (productivity)... For instance something things that we take for granted such as: manners, way we celebrate others, vision mission, ways we even greet others and even the tone of voice we use might set the wrong culture. Even though, we are all trying to catch up, we need to take our time to consider what is important and or might affect our school community. Simple things such as greeting others, parents, students and staff member need to be our number one priority, having time to listen to their problems, concerns as well as their ideas will also help us create a positive culture. We need to listen to those unsaid words, hidden messages, we need to focus on what it is important, setting up the best learning/teaching/working opportunities for all community members. As school leaders we need to understand, that our voice tone, facial gestures, comments as well as preoccupation for getting better professional development opportunities, parental involment even the way we motivate others will become the mirror image we see in others. • 14. The Importance Of Freedom Of Speech Is it possible to imagine a civil democratic society without freedom of speech? The right of speech is one of the most valuable integrity a human being can have in this world. Precisely, this is an opportunity given by the right to talk open minded and give opinions about particular situations. However, what are the impacts on a total society of assuring the right of free speech? As far as I am concerned, free speech provides a check on corrupt, inefficient leadership and administrative personnel. Moreover, it is indirectly responsible for the higher standards of living to the extent that free speech promotes scientific discovery and dissemination, more effective means toward given societal goals, and more efficient governmental personnel. Some critics of free speech may argue that it leads to political instability and revolution as well. Freedom of speech exists mostly in democratic countries. In these particular countries politicians come into force through disputes and discussions. However, freedom is an important section of democratic society and in this case, it is considered as an affirmative right. If we take into account not only political life, we have to agree with the point that freedom of speech and thoughts is crucial for growth. Again, new ideas are born through arguments and discussions and this is the key to prosperity. Diversity of viewpoints and opinions create conditions that are ideal for evolution, progress and development. Indeed, there are other rights of freedom a human being can possess. Such as, freedom of press, worship, and religion etc. The fundamental right of the freedom of press implicit in the right the freedom of speech and expressions, is crucial for the political prosperity and proper functioning of democracy. Freedom of press is the center of social and political bonds. It is the principal duty of the courts to support the freedom of press and invalidate all laws or administrative actions, which intervene with it contrary to the constitutional mandate. Both industry and foreign relations were heavily impacted after the war. Industry flourished with new technology, the idea of interchangeable parts and the cotton gin. The cotton gin saved valuable time and interchangeable parts made mass manufacturing easier for things like guns and shoes. Foreign relations also improved with the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 and the Manifest Destiny in 1840. (Tell me how briefly, so one brief example each) In the 1800 s the United States economy was thriving due to an increase in domestic trade and mass manufacturing, while foreign relations improved, and a friendship with Great Britain was made. Prior to the War of 1812 America attempted to remain neutral regarding the war between Great Britain and France. George Washington, who was president at the time, even created the Neutrality Proclamation in an effort to keep the young nation out of conflicts abroad. Testing the validity of a test is the measurement of how well what is being tested is measured. For example, a test might be designed to measure a stable personality trait but instead measure transitory emotions generated by situational or environmental conditions. A valid test ensures that the results are an accurate reflection of the dimension undergoing assessment (Cherry, 2016). To test for construct validity it must be demonstrated that the phenomenon being measured actually exists. So, the construct validity of a test for intelligence, for example, is dependent on a model or theory of intelligence. Construct validity entails demonstrating the power of such a construct to explain a network of research findings and to predict further relationships. The more evidence a researcher can demonstrate for a test s construct validity the better. However, there is no single method of determining the construct validity of a test. Most of the artists would like to express their personal feelings like happiness, sadness rather than national feelings by using objects.(Seitz,1983) By contrast, Color field painting was the development of Abstract expressionism and the purpose was similar in addition to the fact that background was tremendously crucial. (Wilkin,2007) The only difference is that the subject matter in color field painting is the color, the object is not necssarily important.(Artstory foundation) Willem De Kooning represented the Abstract expressionism while Kenneth Noland represented the color field painting.Willem De Kooning was the prominent Abstract expressionism painters and urgely objected to the restrictions imposed by naming movements. He said I m not interested in abstracting or taking things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I paint this way because I can keep putting more things in it drama, anger, pain, love, a figure, a horse, my ideas about space. Through your eyes it again becomes an emotion or idea. (Artstory foundation). It means he like the freedom of painting to tell people his emotions. Some of the famous paintings were the women features. In the other way, Kenneth Noland was an significant painter who insisted on producing his paintings in soak stain technique. He focused on the choice of color, to determine how the background integrated with the subject to become a full subject.(Webb,2011)I will use each one of the paintings for the two style to illustrate its difference and the value ... • 30. Gorbachev Research Paper Coming into 1985, the Soviet Union was a closed off society which had suffered under the leadership of old, delusional men. It was clear that, as Mikhail Gorbachev himself said the night before being appointed the head of the Communist Party, We can t go on living like this (Gaddis, 229). Mikhail Gorbachev was a relatively young and educated leader, ready to change the USSR for the better. But it is here attempting to juggle his new social reform policies and his desire to stay in power that Gorbachev stumbled. By the end of 1991, it was evident that Gorbachev was not a good juggler at all not only did he lose all his power and popularity within his country, but the Soviet Union itself collapsed. Ultimately, it was the reforms Gorbachev ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biggest was his decision to not use force in the internal affairs of other communist states (Gaddis, 239). Hence, the 1989 revolutions occurred whereby communism rule ended in Eastern Europe. On August 24, 1989, the first non communist government in postwar Eastern Europe took power in Poland (Gaddis, 241). The revolutionary feeling quickly spread to Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and Romania and by the end of 1989, the Soviets had lost all control and influence over their Eastern Europe satellites. Thus, it is understandable why many in the USSR perceived this as a weakness and blamed Gorbachev. Furthermore, as the free flow of information continued and new freedoms allowed people within the Soviet Union to explore their cultural identity in a political context, republics within the USSR started to push for independence too. Gorbachev s power was diminishing, accelerated by the rising popularity of Russian nationalist Boris Yeltsin and other political opponents. In short, the loss of the Eastern Bloc increased nationalist and revolutionary feelings within the USSR, thus further diminishing Gorbachev s power as his citizens turned to other political ... • 31. Mainstream Schooling Is Culturally Bound In this essay I will address the ways in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, and why this is a problem for those who have disabilities. Mainstream schools can be determined as a school of traditional education or a normal school (Spielgaben, 2015). This categorises mainstream schools within New Zealand as schools of English medium that follow the New Zealand Curriculum and are state schools. These English medium schools work with the National Standards system which set specific expectations for students to have met in the key learning areas of reading, writing and mathematics (Ministry of Education, 2012). This system is just one of the ways in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound. The Oxford Dictionaries (2015) defines culturally bound as restricted in character or outlook by belonging or referring to a particular culture. Due to these schools following particular systems it makes it difficult to cater to the different groups that attend these schools. The second way in which mainstream schooling is culturally bound, that I will address, is that most often teachers in these schools do not have the time, resources or skills to teach the diversity of disabilities due to a stronger focus of teaching by the curriculum. This results in more efforts needing to be made to support those with disabilities. I will focus on the common disabilities and special needs in the context of students in mainstream schools, such hearing impairments, physical and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Essay On Water Pollution Chapter One The Problem and Its Setting Water is essential to life. It provides an efficient way to transfer substances from a cell to the cell s environment. Which is why there is usually no positive impacts when referring to water pollution as it is a major global problem. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies. It exist as a result of harmful substances being inserted into water bodies whether purposely or accidently. When observed it has an affect on the entire ecological system, and most occurrences negatively impact whole species as it is the leading cause of death and disease. On account of water being an vital component of life on Earth, if it is indeed contaminated, it will deplete the health of the plant and every living thing on it. Background of the Study Water pollution can affect the macroinvertebrates that live in the water and they can become contaminated. When the consumption of influenced macroinvertebrates occur and travel throughout the food chain based around the body of water, toxins that contaminated the supply are now spread. The water quality can determine which type of macroinvertebrates inhabit the bodies of water because there are pollution sensitive and pollution tolerant macroinvertebrates. If the bodies of water are only inhabited by pollution tolerant macroinvertebrate that suggest that the water is highly contaminate and those are the only macroinvertebrates that can survive there. Although, if there is a balance of both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Birth Control Of Women Appropriately called by some one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World, the birth control pill has absolutely revolutionized the lives of women around the globe. As an effective means to control if and when a woman has a child, the pill opened up doors to spaces where women weren t allowed prior. A person controlling their own fertility is an essential component of creating economic security, limiting unwanted pregnancies, and creating healthier families. There are many new options for contraception for women today, but the pill was the original catalyst in the United States for women claiming control over their fertility, career, and overall health status. The concept of family planning can be traced back to a nurse, sex educator, and political activist names Margaret Sanger. Born in 1879 to a large family (and her mother subsequently died during Margaret s birth), she was passionate about the ability for women to control their fertility and own their sexuality. Sanger is credited with opening the first birth control clinic in the United States in 1916 (Planned Parenthood, 2013). She went on to found the American Birth Control League, which eventually became Planned Parenthood. Fighting for reproductive justice through advocacy and clinics was just the beginning, however, as Sanger had an ultimate goal: a birth control pill. Being the dream she always wanted to have realized, Sanger teamed up with an experimental biologist and friend, Katherine Dexter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy A Brief Introduction To Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy By Wayne Froggatt Third Ed.(this version Feb 2005) Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is based on the concept that emotions and behaviours result from cognitive processes; and that it is possible for human beings to modify such processes to achieve different ways of feeling and behaving. REBT is one of a number of therapies that come under the heading cognitive behavioural . In the mid 1950 s Dr. Albert Ellis, a clinical psychologist trained in psychoanalysis, became disillusioned with the slow progress of his clients. He observed that they tended to get better when they changed their ways of thinking about themselves, their problems, and the world. Ellis reasoned that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two Types of Disturbance REBT suggests that human beings defeat or disturb themselves in two main ways: (1) by holding irrational beliefs about their self (ego disturbance) or (2) by holding irrational beliefs about their emotional or physical comfort (discomfort disturbance). Frequently, the two go together people may think irrationally about both their selves and their circumstances though one or the other will usually be predominant. Ego disturbance represents an upset to the self image. It results from holding demands about one s self , e.g. I must ... do well / not fail / get approval from others ; followed by negative selfevaluations such as: When I fail / get disapproval / etc. this proves I am no good and so on. These beliefs create ego anxiety emotional tension resulting from the perception that one s self or personal worth is threatened and lead to other problems such as avoidance of situations where failure, disapproval, etc. might occur; looking to other people for acceptance; and ... • 35. Kevin Hart Essay For my research, I chose the comedian Kevin Hart. I chose Mr. Hart due to the fact that many of his standup comedy acts appeal to me, and are relatable to my life. A lot of comedians create humor at the expense of others, but Kevin Hart tends to keep it centered on his family, and events that have happened in his life. I can relate to the events that he makes light of, and it makes it the humor more appealing to me specifically. Both the fact that his home life, and his physical appearance are the basis of his routines make more sense than some of the other standup comedy acts I have observed. At this stage, I do not know much about Kevin Harts life, besides what he has included in the sets that I ve watched. Some of the things that I have learned is that he had a troubled childhood due to his father s life choices. His father was an addict, and had altercations in bars, which Kevin witnessed and made jokes to deal with it. He also has two kids, a boy and a girl, which sometimes are brought up in the standup sets, mostly at the expense of the children. The majority of Kevin s appeal is centered around his height, which is a commonly referenced joke both by himself, and others, which does not seem to bother him anymore if he is able to make light of it himself. I think that the beginning of Mr. Hart s life is what led him to be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harts comedy. • 36. The Destruction Of Society In Lord Of The Flies By William... Humans kill, whether it be animals, insects or people. The justice system is used to try and fix what others have done and in this way they are punished. They are punished in a functioning society with rules and laws, but when all that is stripped away, we are left with mass destruction and humans that kill. The novel Lord of the Flies, published in 1954 and written by Nobel Prize winning author, William Golding, portrays the violence and eradication of a functioning society through young boys stranded on an island. Golding uses the symbol fire and forgetfulness of the need for it to develop the theme of the loss of society and creation of uncivilized destruction. Ralph as chief in the beginning of Lord of the Flies uses fire to fuel his main goal as a leader, which is to get back home. He treats the fire as a necessity and one of the most important assets on the island. Ralph uses the smoke from the fire as a safety net that keeps him comfortable and with the hope of getting home. He says, And we ll be responsible for keeping a lookout too. If we see a ship out there...we ll put green branches on. Then there ll be more smoke (Golding 43). Ralph emphasizes the need for the smoke as he sees this as one of the only ways that they will ever be rescued. Ralph is still full of hope for life and escaping. This fire will keep them safe and this fire will rescue him and all of the others. As chief, he wants others to have the same hope about being saved that he does which is ...
