The Importance Of Education During The Industrial Age
During the Industrial Age, not every child had the ability to go to school. The majority of children
worked in factories at the time, and only the children of rich families were able to attend school.
Teachers were feared by students and if a student misbehaved or fell behind in class, they would be
punished. Today, many of those practices have changed. Every child has the ability to go to school,
and teachers are not feared by the students. Punishments in class are not as harsh as they were back
then and there are more opportunities than ever, but some of the same values in education that
originated from the Industrial Age are still around.
While many classes still use textbooks, they havetextbooks become outdated and over the school year
get worn down. We as students now have the ability to access the internet and have the ability to learn
anything we want. Many schools end up not using this to their advantage; with online activities,
learning opportunities, and tons of videos thatey can show us so they can giveet a better understanding
of a topic. Education Technology Solutions wrote an article asking questions like, Why are most
examinations not open book? Why cannot students take their computers into a test? In real world
situations, are people rarely so cut off from information that they cannot ask a question on how to do
something? from the paragraph section titled Teach a Man to Fish... Google Drive can be used to

Current State Of Fuel And World Energy Demand
Current State of fuel World Energy Demand
Post 18th Century Industrial revolution has created a dependency on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and
natural gas for all technological and transportation demands that engineer modern society. However.
Such demands, and even their expected future demands threatens the overall worlds energy supply and
generates large strains on the environment. The Hydrogen economy article published by Physics
Today in December 2004 anticipated that the world energy demand will double by 2050 in response to
population growth and industrialisation of developing countries. (Crabtree, Dresselhaus and
Buchanan, 2004).
An article by Todd Woody of The Atlantic (Woody, 2013) has stated that developing countries will
account for 65% of the world s energy consumption by 2040. The majority of such consumption being
produced by non OCED nations such as India and China. This figure was published by the United
States Energy Information Administration. This can be summarised as a 2.2% annual increase in fossil
fuel usage in non OCED countries compared to that of 0.5% in OCED communities such as some of
the EU, North America and Australia. Figure 1.1 iProjected world energy consumption (Eia.gov, 2013)
Further study has shown that due to this increased demand for fossil fuels, the Global Carbon Project
showed a 2.1% increase in greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. With 57% of those emissions coming
from developing countries. India and China contributed a third of

Background On Dell Incorporation
Background on Dell Incorporation
Dell incorporation is a well known name in households and organizations everywhere. This is because
Dell is the largest mail order computer vendor in the world due to their high reputation or providing
quality PCs to the public at affordable and competitive prices. However, this innovation of PCs would
not habe been possible without Mr. Michael Dell, the genius behind this prominent and successful
company (Anonymous, 2015). From its inception, Dell has managed to gain and maintain a
competitive advantage in the industry of computers. The question then is how does Dell gain and
retain this competitive advantage?
According to Dave Schneider, an engineering manager for Dell Americas operations, he states We

This strategy was developed to replace the traditional boundaries among end users, suppliers and
manufacturers through the use of its technology and information. Virtual integration utilizes mass
customization, customer focus, just in time manufacturing and supplier partnerships and combines
them to ensure that coordination is enabled. According to Wang et.al (2006), virtual integration is
substituting ownership with partnership through the integration of suppliers in an attempt to achieve
collaboration in the supply chain. This collaboration with suppliers allows Dell to enjoy the benefits of
virtual integration without having to set up their own manufacturing facility. Wang further mentioned
that virtual integration can assist manufacturers in attaining a higher flexibility in manufacturing and
also to achieve comparative advantage. In addition, Dell gain competitive advantage through its
supply chain management by requesting that key suppliers develop inventory hubs in close proximity
to their assembly plants. By doing this, Dell could communicate with the inventory hubs of their
suppliers in a timely fashion so that delivery is done in a short span of time. Also, Dell s new PC
models could now be brought to the market quicker which resulted in drastic cost advantages

Hearing Again: A Life Changing Aussie Discovery
Feeling constant mumbling words hard to understand, asking people to repeat conversation again and
again, and turning the television to a level that others would complain to be too loud, are the many
symptoms of hearing loss my grandfather suffered and never noticed. It was until 2003, when we
brought him to visit an audiologist, being officially told that he had permanent sensorineural hearing
loss, due to his natural aging process. This meant not being able to clearly understand people speaking
including me, his grandchild. This meant not being able to go to his everyday work as a policeman.
This meant not being able to even hear the sounds of nature; the birds chirping, the dog barking.

Let me introduce Bandara. Bandara has been working as the number two in a medium sized
organization for ten years. It has always been intimated that when Jeremy his boss retires or leaves,
Bandara will slip into the number one position and lead the organization. Barry has always had some
clear ideas on how he is going to take the organization forward when Jeremy is not there; ideas that
have not been taken up in the past.
Life being perverse, it had been decided to advertise the job externally and guess what? A better
candidate came up who has now been in post for three weeks. Bandera s new boss is a great guy, very
friendly and supportive . . . but, he is not Barry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Counsellor: Bandara, if I were in your position, what would you advise me to do?
Well done again counsellor. Getting an objective view on this.
Bandara: Well that is simple. Think through the ideas you have always had, refine them and get them
out of your head and onto paper (or a Word document). Not too long. Do not spend too much time on
it and keep it very brief an overview. Arrange to see the new number one, preferably off site at a
neutral venue, and tell him that you have always had these ideas but never shared then and you would
now like to share them and if anything was that good, maybe the organization can adopt them.
You will either get an acceptance, in which case you will achieve what you have always wanted or you
will have a debate as to what can or cannot be adopted and you will have at least cleared the air for
yourself.
Counsellor: So Bandara what are you going to do?
Bandara: Crafty you have got me to resolve my own dilemma. Clearly, I shall take my own advice and
do just what I have recommended.
Thanks sir. I have gone from tragic to magic as Walt Disney would say and it s all down to you.
Thanks.

Finding A Balance

FINDING A BALANCE
Finding a Balance: Europa Universalis IV
In many ways, Europa Universalis 4 is less of a game about history, and more of a game about
understanding history. In this game, you play as any nation from 1444 until 1821, from the dawn of
the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the death of Napoleon, and your goals as a state are only
limited by your imagination and skill. Accomplishing a world conquest is completely within the realm
of possibility for a skilled player, or you could be the type of player who simply wants to form
Germany or unite the Holy Roman Empire.
The player can begin the game at any date during the period which the game takes place, with the map
of the world being representative of the actual world at that time, but players will often find that their
games do not come close to this accuracy even when the player has nothing to do with it. Because
every nation is played by an AI just as long as you have been playing your nation, sometimes variation
happens. From personal experience, I have seen
Venice control almost all of Greece when I was playing an Asian country. It is this variation which
gives the game excitement; if I knew how the game would progress every single time, I would play
one game and never play again.
On one hand, you have a serious, historical simulation of the world and how it progressed, and on the
other hand you have a game where Ulm, a German minor, can take over the entire European continent

Kobe Bryant Is A Matter Of Fact
As a matter of fact, Kobe Bryant has literally gone from needing his parents to co sign his first NBA
contract, at 17, to being, as he put it, a triple OG . In other words, we have seen Kobe essentially grow
up in front of us. That is to say that Kobe has gone from rookie, to veteran player to a well seasoned
veteran the feels like a grandfather although the 37 yar old Bryant knew all along that this would be
his last season, is enjoying the role of elder statesman. Father time has finally caught up with Kobe, 15
games into his unprecedented 20th NBA season (an NBA record for the most seasons with one team),
for this reason, in an eloquently written letter, on the website The Players Tribune (co owned by Kobe
Bryant and Derek Jeter) addressed to the game of basketball, Bryant announced his retirement at the
end of the 2015 16 season. http://www.theplayerstribune.com/dear basketball/ Granted the retirement
announcement did not surprise many, in reality, Kobe Bryant, the highest paid player in the NBA s
retirement occurred on April 12, 2013, the 80th game of the year in the Lakers 118 116 win over the
Golden State Warriors on a night when the Black Mamba grounded by a ruptured his left Achilles

Short Story Gryphon By Charles Baxter
In the short story Gryphon by Charles Baxter, it starts out with Mr. Hibler, a boy named Tommy and
his 4th grade class teacher, getting sick and needing Miss Ferenczi as a substitute. Miss Ferenczi
basically abandons the lesson plan and just talks and talks about very interesting things in place of
having class, even going so far as to bringing in a tarot pack to tell the class fortunes on the last day.
Though Tommy liked Miss Ferenczi, other classmates were upset with her, so she then gets fired and
the class spends the afternoon with Mrs. Mantei s class for science. In the story, Tommy was shown to
have defended Miss Ferenczi. I think this is because she was a change from Tommy s usually boring
life. In lines 468 485 and 621 626, Tommy s mother tells him to do chores and ignores his excited talk
about Miss Ferenczi, which implies that Tommy has routine chores to do daily, and is kind of bored of
them. Because he was so used to coming home to a list of chores every single day and having a
routine schedule, he was excited to have something new, Miss F, and wanted to keep it that way,
therefore defending her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in lines 39 50, Miss Ferenczi wasn t a substitute the class had seen before, and the pool was

different. When Miss F really ended up being different, telling the strangest stories and even the class
fortunes, Tommy started out thinking she was crazy, but then began liking and respecting her, and
even defending her. This shows that Tommy didn t like things in a steady, boring routine, and that he
defended Miss F because she wasn t like that, but rather was

Similarities Between Hinduism And Hinduism Essay
Christianity Versus Hinduism
Christianity and Hinduism, are two of the worlds oldest religions. Although they are very different
religions they share one main goal; salvation. However, their idea of salvation and what they have to
do ,and what must be done to attain salvation are very different.
Two main similarities between the Hindu religion and Christian religion are referred to by different
titles; nevertheless they are represented by the same action. One example of these similarities would
be prayer and meditation. Christians pray to God to ask for forgiveness and help such as healing and
strength. However Hindus practice meditation, this is a type of prayer that starts with a poem, believed
to be written by their god. Hinduism vs. Christianity.( Hindunet.org. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Feb. 2016.)
Hindus meditate to reach inner peace which in return gives them strength and healing. Some secs of
Hinduism even call meditation prayer, and even require it to be done three times a day. (

Both the Christian religion, as well as Hindu religion, believe they have to strive to be at their best
morally at all times. Christians do this to be more Christ like in hopes that people will see Christ in
them and in turn want to follow and serve him. Nonetheless, Hindus believe this helps them to reach
enlightenment, which pleases their god and this will bring them closer to their salvation.
Also differences exist as well. First, Christians believe in and serve one God, the

Montesquieu s Spirit Of Laws And Jean Jacques Rousseau s...
What entity dictates life on the most fundamental level? Is it the government or the people who permit
the government to exist? This is the main point of contention between Baron de Montesquieu s Spirit
of Laws and Jean Jacques Rousseau s On the Social Contract. Interestingly, their interpretation of
different forms of government converge on the sovereignty of a democracy, but that is where most of
their common ground lies. While Rousseau shares similarities on the sovereign authority of a
democracy with Montesquieu, he departs by arguing how regardless of government, sovereignty
always rests in the hands of the people. He also disagrees on how the populace should participate in
the democracy and on their representation in government, making his principles more relevant today.
Baron de Montesquieu sees the people as sovereign exclusively in a democracy and act through
elected bodies or ministers. Since the people have the sole power to enact laws, the rules of suffrage
are vital to a successful democracy. Following closely is the need for a fixed amount of active citizens
in an assembly. As such, the essence of his democracy revolves around the need for love of the laws
and of the country. (Montesquieu Bk. 4 Pt. 5) Likewise, frugality is important because it allows all of
society to share a similar level of enjoyment and advantages that a democracy brings. When the
populace look to frugality, enhanced public services are made available. Consequently, there is a law

Isadora Duncan And Modern Dance
Isadora Duncan was born on May 26th 1877 in San Francisco, California. She became a known
dancer and instructor, and she influenced dance techniques today. She was one of the people who
came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She
didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to
modern dance.
After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her
parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This
probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they
practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland,
California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad
returned later and provided a home for his ex wife.
When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and
automatically fell in love with dance. She didn t like traditional ballet so she made her own style that
was more comfortable. She believed ballet had too many rules. When she was six she began teaching
kids in her neighborhood how to dance. Word was spreading about her class and around age ten her
classes became bigger.
Eventually she dropped out of school at a young age so Duncan and her sister Elizabeth could earn
extra money from teaching a dance

Jk Simmons And Character Clash
Tyler Christiansen/ Section A/ Whiplash/ Peter Stone
A young actor can learn a lot from the performances of JK Simmons and Miles Teller in Whiplash.
Throughout the film each actor clearly had an understanding of not only who their character was, but
what their character s overall objective was. Building character is essential to a great performance and
by watching this film I could easily tell each actor did the proper preparation it took to get a better
understanding who Fletcher and Andrew were. These actors are a great example of what we, as actors,
should be striving for when we begin to analyze a new character.
The chemistry between Simmons and Teller on screen was incredible, and I believe a huge portion of
that was due to their comprehension of their characters. A factor that played a great part between these
two characters was the idea of high status and low status. Fletcher is clearly the high status character,
holding the power to make or break Andrew s life long dream. Simmons plays this part of Fletcher
quite clearly through his physical and vocal choices. His movement is very meticulous, almost as if he
s constantly thinking about every move he makes. His posture is tall and overbearing, often ... Show

to anxiety or nervousness and I believe because my usual soft spoken voice it s much easier for me to

Synthesis And Secretion And Dendritic Spine Morphology
Calcium controls many neuronal functions, such as neurotransmitter synthesis and secretion and
dendritic spine morphology. The role of CaMKKβ is probably best characterised in the brain.
CaMKKβ and CaMKKα are both highly expressed in the brain (Anderson et al. 1996), and have been
shown to be important in the formation of memory and neuronal plasticity (Wayman et al. 2008). In
addition, studies show the CaMK cascade is essential for axon and dendrite elongation in cortical
neurons (Ageta Ishihara et al. 2009; Davare et al. 2009), as well as synaptogenesis in hippocampal
neurons (Saneyoshi et al. 2008). The CaMK cascade is known to regulate cAMP response element
binding protein (CREB) dependent transcriptional activity in vivo, which is important for
hippocampal long term memory formation (Lonze and Ginty. 2002). Global CaMKKβ / mice
generated by Peters et al were found to have male specific impaired spatial memory formation
secondary to reduced spatial training induced CREB activation, as well as impaired long term memory
for the social transmission of food preferences secondary to the lack of late long term potentiation at
the hippocampal area CA1 synapses (Peters et al. 2003; Mizuno et al. 2007). No difference was found
in other types of hippocampus dependent long term memory, including contextual fear memory and
passive avoidance, compared to wild type mice suggesting that the formation of these long term
memory types do not require the activation of CREB by CaMKKβ.

Finding Your Place in High School
Why fit in when you can stand out? You have been told this your whole life. But whose responsibility
is it to find out where you fit in, yours? Or your peers? Your adolescent years are all about trying to
not stand out, and trying just as hard to fit in with the in crowd. You use more energy trying to fit in,
instead of just spending all your energy on being who you really are. A group of friends are suppose to

They are to busy trying to be someone they are not. During his poetry reading Shane Koyczan argues,
We are expected to define ourselves and if we did not do it others would do it for us, (Shane

to find yourself? In high school, if you let kids define who you are then you are their robot. You are no

become friends with people who have the same kind of markers as you, or the kid that has your
favorite power ranger on their shirt. You actually have things in common, you do not become friends
with them just because you think they are popular. As the years go on this theory starts to diminish.
Unlike Kindergarten you start to differentiate between the kids who are popular and the kids who want
to be popular. Most of the time the kids who are popular actually do not have that much in common
with each other. They put on these fake personas to make it look like they are all perfect and have so
much in common. When in reality they are all strangers to each other. Over this past year, I have

The Battle Of Midway, America And The Empire Of Japan
Decisive Point in the Pacific The Battle of Midway became one of the quintessential events in the
struggle between the United States of America and the Empire of Japan. Though the official battle
only lasted for three days, its outcome signified the turning point for the United States in the pacific
theatre as well as the western front where the Allies had begun to achieve a foothold against Adolf
Hitler s Nazi Germany. Though it is just one small piece of World War II, The Battle of Midway
shows how both technological and tactical advances by the United States Navy were able to outwit the
numerically superior Japanese Navy. Japan was a formidable foe, its unyielding resolve pushed the
United States to its limits and had it lost the battle it may have changed how historians view history.
The Midway Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean approximately 1,486 miles to the west of the
island of Hawaii. The U.S. Navy first occupied the islands in the early 1940 s and used them as a
forward operations base, which included a seaport with multiple landing strips. Both sides saw the
island as a key asset to acquire which in turn would cut the vast size of the Pacific Ocean in half. The
Battle of Midway however was not the first time that the islands saw conflict. On December 7 1941,
about 30 minutes into the attack on the naval port of Pearl Harbor, Japanese forces made their first
attempt to claim the site. They were unsuccessful in there initial attempt but

The Growth Of Room 40 s Atherosclerosis
The growth of Room 40 s atherosclerosis progressed until an acute arterial occlusion was formed,
which stopped blood flow to the tissue. The atherosclerosis consisted of complicated lesions that led
to a decrease in blood flow and the presence of a thrombus, ultimately resulting in thea lack of blood
flow to the right foot and lower leg. Thrombi often appear after a rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque
(Coneliue, 2014). This lack of blood flow led to necrosis of the tissues in the right foot and lower leg
and ultimately resulted in the need for the AKA.
The obstruction in Room 40 s leg was discovered using a diagnostic arteriogram. An arteriogram is an
image of the interior of blood vessels, such as arteries, by the use of electromagnetic waves. During
this procedure, a dye is injected into the artery revealing any bulges, weakness, lesions or occlusions
of the blood vessel. The ability to see any evidence of a a plaque formation or obstruction within a
vessel makes an arteriogram an effective method for detecting atherosclerosis (Johns Hopkins
Medicine, 2015).
After the obstruction was detected with the arteriogram, the patient underwent percutaneous catheter
directed thrombolytic therapy with alteplase in order to regain blood flow and nutrients to the right
foot and lower leg. This choice of therapy is chosen with the goal to quickly dissolve the arterial
obstruction (National Institute of Health, 2014b). Although the TPA in alteplase will not restore the

BRAC achieves five distinctive advantages across its enterprises:
Synergy
The integrated network of BRAC Enterprises, Development Programs and Investments together beget

The True Meaning Of Reading Is Not A Disinterested...
For many years authorial intention was recognised as the only true meaning of a text. A philosopher in
the twentieth century, Edmund Hursell, recognised the power of consciousness and the phenomenal
reality of an appearance which defers questions about an ultimate end. Phenomenology notes an
objects existence, but achieves meaning and finds reality through an active conscious and awareness
which registers the object, suspending all presuppositions, inferences, or judgements. A text, when
criticised phenomenologically, is seen in aesthetic and affective aspects, existing only in the reader.
Scholar Stanley Fish extended these ideas into what is now called Reader Response Criticism, or R
RC discussing the influence the reader has on the interpretation, making reading an active activity
(Cowgill 5). This essay will discuss the idea that reading is not a disinterested activity by applying
new critic ideals to enforce upon the notion that meaning is drawn from the readers own
interpretations, shaped by their active engagement with the text.. More recently, in 2003, Lisa
Zunshine further developed the importance of the reader in textual meaning by drawing from
cognitive psychology in her article Theory of the Mind . Zunshine suggests that such an activity is the
basis for the very existence of the novel as we know it; the reason we read fiction is because it
exercises our mind reading ability (Polvinen). Readers become active participants in the creation of
the work through

Bathroom Revolutionaries Summary
In this week reading, Calling All Restroom Revolutionaries , by Simone Chess, Alison Kafer, Jessi
Quizar, and Mattie Udora Richardson they expressed three main points throughout the article. The
first main point in this article is that bathrooms are easier to access for some of us than for others. This
is an issue that some people don t know about or don t even think is a problem. Recently this has been
a hotbed topic, within the media but I have been aware of this problem for sometime now. Many of
my close friends have expressed their concerns about the bathroom situation well before this became a
newsworthy topic. In addition, this topic has always bothered me because it is a bathroom and people
mostly use the bathroom for two purposes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I like the way the authors went about explaining the problem and the examples that were given
throughout the article. I also thought it was useful to show that multiple groups can come together for
a common cause even with their different visions. I never thought about the fact that individuals that
are wheelchair bound can not reach the tampon dispensers within the bathrooms. Also, I never noticed
that with the gender neutral bathrooms that there are not tampons/pad dispensers which is very
peculiar to me because they should be in there. Those are two aspects of this informative reading that I
did not even slightly think about before this article. I am unsure about what actions to take on this
article because I feel like there should be access to tampons and pads within the gender neutral
bathrooms but unsure on how to start that process. I know that it took awhile to even have gender
neutral bathroom on campus so I am unsure on how to start raising awareness of this issue. I will
begin to start using the gender neutral bathroom to reduce the stigma that is attached to this bathroom
to make it a more normalized

Academic Clustering Paper
1. How did you select this research study to analyze? That is, what search terms did you use? What
database did you use? What was your rationale for selecting this particular study to analyze over the
others identified in the search results? What is the full reference for the study in APA format?
When searching for research studies about Academic Clustering I used the SportDiscus through the
University of North Florida s Database. Using the terms Athletes and Academic Clustering. I chose
this article because I selected another one of their research studies and believe they provide a great
deal of background information on the topic as well as great research that can be used to improve the
academic experience of athletes. Fountain and Finley seem very well ... Show more content on

What was the research question? (Some authors are more general and state only a purpose for the
research study. If so, indicate the purpose.)
The purpose of the study is to study academic clustering and race to determine whether it merits entrée
into discussions that traditionally centered on graduate rates, academic fraud and academic support
(2009, p.5). The three research questions they posed were; (1) Does academic clustering occur among
ACC football players? (2) Is there a difference of clustering when considering White and Minority
subgroups? (3) Are there multiple majors at these schools that exceed the threshold to be considered
clustered?.
4. What were the source of the data collected? For example, who were the participants? What was the
sample? What sites for research data collection were used? And/or What documents were studied?
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) consist of 12 schools at the time of this study in 2006. They
used data from 11 out of the 12 schools and used 394 upperclassman football players from these
schools. The sample contained 41.4% White players and 58.6% Minority players. They used media
guides from the 2006 season to determine the academic majors of the

Essay On Plasma Collisionality
The relationship between plasma collisionality and intermittency has been investigated for density and
potential fluctuations in the stellarator TJ K, as well as with Hasegawa Wakatani simulations. The
intermittency level was determined in experiments using two methods. First, the scale separated
kurtosis analysis consisted of applying a wavelet transform to density and potential time series and
calculating the kurtosis of the wavelet coefficients at a chosen frequency scale, ( removed HTML ) (

For density fluctuations, a general trend of increasing intermittency with increasing collisionality is
observed, for both experimental data and simulated data. This trend agrees with the HW simulation
result for the Lagrangian intermittency at high collisionality. ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML )
12 ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) For potential fluctuations, on the other hand, no trend in the
intermittency level and collisionality is observed, and the intermittency level remains low, indicating
self similar fluctuation statistics, in accordance with Refs. ( removed HTML ) 13 ( removed HTML ) ,

Gaussian statistics over the parameter range investigated. ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) The
observed trend in the intermittency level of density fluctuations with collisionality and the self
similarity of potential fluctuations can be explained in the framework of the HW model. The model
describes the spatio temporal evolution of the density, potential, and vorticity, with a parallel coupling
term influenced by the collisionality. In the HW simulations, vorticity fluctuations have been

The Courage and Strength in All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
As I enter my last week as a twenty year old, I find myself nostalgically looking back on the past two
decades while wondering what life has in store for me over the next two. Where will I be in twenty
years? What will I have accomplished? Where will I be living? Will I be married? Have chil... wait a
minute, no, that one will have to wait a few more years. These questions have all passed through my
mind at one point or another over the last few weeks, but I realize that they are really quite a luxury.

opportunity to lean back from his desk and daydream about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Paul most clearly displays his strength on the each of these levels when a bombardment begins to rip
apart the graveyard in which he and his comrades had been resting. A single reading of the passage
reveals the first level upon which Paul excels: as a soldier. His training in No. 9 platoon under
Corporal Himmelstoss made sure that he would not be killed the moment he stepped foot in the
trenches, but the knowledge that he displays in this time of crisis did not come from parade grounds or
noncommissioned officers; it came from months of trench warfare, from experience under fire, and
from the natural instinct to make the right choices when it matters most. From the beginning of the
passage, one can observe Paul s course of action: he does not think, he reacts. From the moment the
first shell lands, he begins gathering information: By the light of the shells I try to get a view of the
fields (66). When his sleeve is torn away, he does not trust the fact that he feels no pain. Paul thinks:
the fact that [I feel no pain] does not reassure me: wounds don t hurt until afterwards. I feel the arm all
over. It is grazed but sound (66). His actions reveal some of his soldiering merit, but not all.
Aside from his explicit actions, Paul s implicit thoughts reveal

Comparison and Contrast between Popes
When people think of the Pope, they think of a leader, admirable person, and someone who is willing
to listen to opinions of the people to make them pleased. They have power, and are lead the Roman
Catholic Church when in reign. These are all huge responsibilities and the Pope is judged in every
aspect of these qualities. They carry much accountability and pressure from the people in the
community. Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis are very similar in their styles and ways of working
with the people. They also have differences amongst their philosophies. However; their similarities

The insight on women and their specific role amongst the church is what collides. When watching the
PBS film, it states that even though women are very frequent in the church, their role is very small and
not as important as the men. They don t have a specific role nor importance to the church. John Paul
feels this is the correct way to run the system of the church. He believes this due to the fact that men
can become priests and have the highest role in the church. On the other hand, Pope Francis had a big
issue with this topic that he made comments about possibly changing the system in the future.
According to the article by Spadero, he explains Pope Francis view of women in the life of the Church
by stating, The church cannot be herself without the woman and her role. The woman is essential for
the church. Mary, a woman, is more important than the bishops. I say this because we must not
confuse the function with the dignity. We must therefore investigate further the role of women in the
church. We have to work harder to develop a profound theology of the woman. Pope Francis believes
women can make a dramatic difference in the church can help with the real word decisions the church

appropriate position to catch the eye of the impulse buyers. Cadbury was the first company to follow
this kind of strategy which became so popular that it was followed by other chocolate manufacturers

Charles Darwin, The Father Of Evolution
Layden Butler
Mrs.Warrem
Bio I dual credit
14 December 2015
Evolution
Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, wisely stated, It is not the strongest of the species that
survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. This statement directly
reflects my opinion on the theory of evolution and that of Charles Darwin. Our species has evolved
over time and adapted to the conditions that faced us. Charles Darwin, his background and
discoveries, along with the evolution of human beings over time prove with great detail just how
necessary and realistic evolution is. In most cases, the argument about evolution brings up one s
religious values. However, the clear science behind the many theories of evolution outweighs and all
religious arguments about this topic. Humans, and many other species, have distinct connections to the
organisms of our past and will continue to change in order to for the future of our civilization.
Darwin s Background
To start off, Darwin s childhood and background are much different than what may be expected.
Charles Darwin was born on the 12th of February, 1809. Darwin s birthplace was is Shrewsbury,
England to Robert and Susannah Darwin. His grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, was very interested in the
ideas of evolution and was well know during that time. Even though Charles never met Erasmus, he
shared alot of the same interests. He was the fifth child in his family, and his parents were well off in
the terms of money during

There Are No Children Here Essay examples
Alex Kotlowitz s book, There are No Children Here, is a story about two boys, Pharaoh and Lafeyette
Rivers growing in the late 1980 s in Henry Horner, a housing project in Chicago. The boys try to
retain their youth while they see constant gang violence, death of close friends, their brother in jail and
their dad struggling with a drug addiction. In Horner, there are two gangs that claim it as their turf, and
the Rivers family is constantly ducking from shots of gunfire there. They live in an overcrowded
apartment with leaky facets, heating problems and animal carcasses in the basement. The boys mother,
LaJoe, tries to keep them away from gangs and violence since her eldest children fell to the harsh
reality of the neighborhood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to this theory, external forces can influence the development of emotions. A child can
mature a lot quicker when they are placed in an environment where they have to take care of
themselves to survive. When tragedy struck, Pharaoh didn t want to know. He continued to tell his
mother he was too young to comprehend it all, as if he were trying to prolong his childhood
(Kotlowitz 216). Both boys did recognized at an early age that death occurs frequently in their
neighborhood. They had several friends die and they were reminded of this every time gunfire went
off outside the apartment. Pharaoh tried to maintain his childhood the best he could and excelled in
school as a coping mechanism. Lafeyette, at thirteen, acted as a parent to fill his mother s role when
she was out.
The government makes one of the biggest contributions to the welfare of the family by providing
financial safety. The problem is that the government fails to show any concern for these families
unless it is brought to their attention, and even then nothing is changed. The lack of interest by the
housing authorities leads to the neglect of Horner for over fifteen years. The rotting carcasses
explained the putrid odor rising from the Riverses toilet. It wasn t aborted fetuses, as LaJoe had
though. It was dead animals, the stench of rotting flesh

American Sniper Review
Reviews of American Sniper American Sniper is a 2014 movie about Chris Kyle, a Navy Seal Sniper
who served 4 tours of duty in Iraq, and credited with being the most lethal United States Sniper of all
time. The movie follows Kyle s life from the attacks of 9/11, the impetus for joining the military,
through his 4 combat tours as a sniper in Iraq, and the years after his military service, including the
event that led to his death in 2013. Much of the film shows Kyle s combat experience, the actions he
took, and consequently the turmoil that results from those actions. The movie was not only a
commercial success, it was also a catalyst for debate on the morality of war, and how it affects those
who fight wars. The first review I read was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject matter in American Sniper is controversial. I believe Bonenburger s wrote the superior
review, he gave due credit to the subject matter and provided an insider s perspective. The subject
matter has weight. It delves into how humans legitimize, or perhaps rationalize, the brutality of armed
combat. This isn t a lighthearted tale. This movie depicts one of the more desperate and severe aspect
of our culture; vilifying other humans to the point where we readily accept killing them in the name of
patriotism, therefore reviews of such subject matter should reflect the same

  • 2. The Importance Of Education During The Industrial Age During the Industrial Age, not every child had the ability to go to school. The majority of children worked in factories at the time, and only the children of rich families were able to attend school. Teachers were feared by students and if a student misbehaved or fell behind in class, they would be punished. Today, many of those practices have changed. Every child has the ability to go to school, and teachers are not feared by the students. Punishments in class are not as harsh as they were back then and there are more opportunities than ever, but some of the same values in education that originated from the Industrial Age are still around. While many classes still use textbooks, they havetextbooks become outdated and over the school year get worn down. We as students now have the ability to access the internet and have the ability to learn anything we want. Many schools end up not using this to their advantage; with online activities, learning opportunities, and tons of videos thatey can show us so they can giveet a better understanding of a topic. Education Technology Solutions wrote an article asking questions like, Why are most examinations not open book? Why cannot students take their computers into a test? In real world situations, are people rarely so cut off from information that they cannot ask a question on how to do something? from the paragraph section titled Teach a Man to Fish... • 3. Current State Of Fuel And World Energy Demand Current State of fuel World Energy Demand Post 18th Century Industrial revolution has created a dependency on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas for all technological and transportation demands that engineer modern society. However. Such demands, and even their expected future demands threatens the overall worlds energy supply and generates large strains on the environment. The Hydrogen economy article published by Physics Today in December 2004 anticipated that the world energy demand will double by 2050 in response to population growth and industrialisation of developing countries. (Crabtree, Dresselhaus and Buchanan, 2004). An article by Todd Woody of The Atlantic (Woody, 2013) has stated that developing countries will account for 65% of the world s energy consumption by 2040. The majority of such consumption being produced by non OCED nations such as India and China. This figure was published by the United States Energy Information Administration. This can be summarised as a 2.2% annual increase in fossil fuel usage in non OCED countries compared to that of 0.5% in OCED communities such as some of the EU, North America and Australia. Figure 1.1 iProjected world energy consumption (Eia.gov, 2013) Further study has shown that due to this increased demand for fossil fuels, the Global Carbon Project showed a 2.1% increase in greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. With 57% of those emissions coming from developing countries. India and China contributed a third of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because Dell is the largest mail order computer vendor in the world due to their high reputation or providing quality PCs to the public at affordable and competitive prices. However, this innovation of PCs would not habe been possible without Mr. Michael Dell, the genius behind this prominent and successful company (Anonymous, 2015). From its inception, Dell has managed to gain and maintain a competitive advantage in the industry of computers. The question then is how does Dell gain and retain this competitive advantage? This strategy was developed to replace the traditional boundaries among end users, suppliers and manufacturers through the use of its technology and information. Virtual integration utilizes mass customization, customer focus, just in time manufacturing and supplier partnerships and combines them to ensure that coordination is enabled. According to Wang et.al (2006), virtual integration is substituting ownership with partnership through the integration of suppliers in an attempt to achieve collaboration in the supply chain. This collaboration with suppliers allows Dell to enjoy the benefits of virtual integration without having to set up their own manufacturing facility. Wang further mentioned that virtual integration can assist manufacturers in attaining a higher flexibility in manufacturing and also to achieve comparative advantage. In addition, Dell gain competitive advantage through its supply chain management by requesting that key suppliers develop inventory hubs in close proximity to their assembly plants. By doing this, Dell could communicate with the inventory hubs of their suppliers in a timely fashion so that delivery is done in a short span of time. Also, Dell s new PC models could now be brought to the market quicker which resulted in drastic cost advantages (Strickland, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hearing Again Research Paper Hearing Again: A Life Changing Aussie Discovery Feeling constant mumbling words hard to understand, asking people to repeat conversation again and again, and turning the television to a level that others would complain to be too loud, are the many symptoms of hearing loss my grandfather suffered and never noticed. It was until 2003, when we brought him to visit an audiologist, being officially told that he had permanent sensorineural hearing loss, due to his natural aging process. • 6. Counselling Case Study by Silva Counselling case study Jayadeva de Silva.M.Sc, FIPM.FITD [pic] Let me introduce Bandara. Bandara has been working as the number two in a medium sized organization for ten years. It has always been intimated that when Jeremy his boss retires or leaves, Bandara will slip into the number one position and lead the organization. Barry has always had some clear ideas on how he is going to take the organization forward when Jeremy is not there; ideas that have not been taken up in the past. Life being perverse, it had been decided to advertise the job externally and guess what? A better candidate came up who has now been in post for three weeks. Counsellor: Bandara, if I were in your position, what would you advise me to do? Well done again counsellor. Getting an objective view on this. Bandara: Well that is simple. Think through the ideas you have always had, refine them and get them out of your head and onto paper (or a Word document). Not too long. Do not spend too much time on it and keep it very brief an overview. Arrange to see the new number one, preferably off site at a neutral venue, and tell him that you have always had these ideas but never shared then and you would now like to share them and if anything was that good, maybe the organization can adopt them. You will either get an acceptance, in which case you will achieve what you have always wanted or you will have a debate as to what can or cannot be adopted and you will have at least cleared the air for yourself. Counsellor: So Bandara what are you going to do? Bandara: Crafty you have got me to resolve my own dilemma. Clearly, I shall take my own advice and do just what I have recommended. Thanks sir. I have gone from tragic to magic as Walt Disney would say and it s all down to you. Thanks. Not crafty, just a great counselling session. • 7. Finding A Balance 2 FINDING A BALANCE Finding a Balance: Europa Universalis IV In many ways, Europa Universalis 4 is less of a game about history, and more of a game about understanding history. In this game, you play as any nation from 1444 until 1821, from the dawn of the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the death of Napoleon, and your goals as a state are only limited by your imagination and skill. Accomplishing a world conquest is completely within the realm of possibility for a skilled player, or you could be the type of player who simply wants to form Germany or unite the Holy Roman Empire. The player can begin the game at any date during the period which the game takes place, with the map of the world being representative of the actual world at that time, but players will often find that their games do not come close to this accuracy even when the player has nothing to do with it. Because every nation is played by an AI just as long as you have been playing your nation, sometimes variation happens. From personal experience, I have seen Venice control almost all of Greece when I was playing an Asian country. It is this variation which gives the game excitement; if I knew how the game would progress every single time, I would play one game and never play again. On one hand, you have a serious, historical simulation of the world and how it progressed, and on the other hand you have a game where Ulm, a German minor, can take over the entire European continent within several hundred ... • 8. Kobe Bryant Is A Matter Of Fact As a matter of fact, Kobe Bryant has literally gone from needing his parents to co sign his first NBA contract, at 17, to being, as he put it, a triple OG . In other words, we have seen Kobe essentially grow up in front of us. That is to say that Kobe has gone from rookie, to veteran player to a well seasoned veteran the feels like a grandfather although the 37 yar old Bryant knew all along that this would be his last season, is enjoying the role of elder statesman. Father time has finally caught up with Kobe, 15 games into his unprecedented 20th NBA season (an NBA record for the most seasons with one team), for this reason, in an eloquently written letter, on the website The Players Tribune (co owned by Kobe Bryant and Derek Jeter) addressed to the game of basketball, Bryant announced his retirement at the end of the 2015 16 season. http://www.theplayerstribune.com/dear basketball/ Granted the retirement announcement did not surprise many, in reality, Kobe Bryant, the highest paid player in the NBA s retirement occurred on April 12, 2013, the 80th game of the year in the Lakers 118 116 win over the Golden State Warriors on a night when the Black Mamba grounded by a ruptured his left Achilles tendon. • 9. Short Story Gryphon By Charles Baxter In the short story Gryphon by Charles Baxter, it starts out with Mr. Hibler, a boy named Tommy and his 4th grade class teacher, getting sick and needing Miss Ferenczi as a substitute. Miss Ferenczi basically abandons the lesson plan and just talks and talks about very interesting things in place of having class, even going so far as to bringing in a tarot pack to tell the class fortunes on the last day. Though Tommy liked Miss Ferenczi, other classmates were upset with her, so she then gets fired and the class spends the afternoon with Mrs. Mantei s class for science. In the story, Tommy was shown to have defended Miss Ferenczi. I think this is because she was a change from Tommy s usually boring life. In lines 468 485 and 621 626, Tommy s mother tells him to do chores and ignores his excited talk about Miss Ferenczi, which implies that Tommy has routine chores to do daily, and is kind of bored of them. Because he was so used to coming home to a list of chores every single day and having a routine schedule, he was excited to have something new, Miss F, and wanted to keep it that way, therefore defending her. ... • 12. Similarities Between Hinduism And Hinduism Essay Christianity Versus Hinduism Christianity and Hinduism, are two of the worlds oldest religions. Although they are very different religions they share one main goal; salvation. However, their idea of salvation and what they have to do ,and what must be done to attain salvation are very different. Two main similarities between the Hindu religion and Christian religion are referred to by different titles; nevertheless they are represented by the same action. One example of these similarities would be prayer and meditation. Christians pray to God to ask for forgiveness and help such as healing and strength. However Hindus practice meditation, this is a type of prayer that starts with a poem, believed to be written by their god. Hinduism vs. Christianity.( Hindunet.org. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Feb. 2016.) Hindus meditate to reach inner peace which in return gives them strength and healing. Some secs of Hinduism even call meditation prayer, and even require it to be done three times a day. ( 1stholistic.com) Both the Christian religion, as well as Hindu religion, believe they have to strive to be at their best morally at all times. Christians do this to be more Christ like in hopes that people will see Christ in them and in turn want to follow and serve him. Nonetheless, Hindus believe this helps them to reach enlightenment, which pleases their god and this will bring them closer to their salvation. Also differences exist as well. • 13. Montesquieu s Spirit Of Laws And Jean Jacques Rousseau s... What entity dictates life on the most fundamental level? Is it the government or the people who permit the government to exist? This is the main point of contention between Baron de Montesquieu s Spirit of Laws and Jean Jacques Rousseau s On the Social Contract. Interestingly, their interpretation of different forms of government converge on the sovereignty of a democracy, but that is where most of their common ground lies. While Rousseau shares similarities on the sovereign authority of a democracy with Montesquieu, he departs by arguing how regardless of government, sovereignty always rests in the hands of the people. He also disagrees on how the populace should participate in the democracy and on their representation in government, making his principles more relevant today. Baron de Montesquieu sees the people as sovereign exclusively in a democracy and act through elected bodies or ministers. Since the people have the sole power to enact laws, the rules of suffrage are vital to a successful democracy. Following closely is the need for a fixed amount of active citizens in an assembly. As such, the essence of his democracy revolves around the need for love of the laws and of the country. (Montesquieu Bk. 4 Pt. 5) Likewise, frugality is important because it allows all of society to share a similar level of enjoyment and advantages that a democracy brings. When the populace look to frugality, enhanced public services are made available. Consequently, there is a law of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Isadora Duncan And Modern Dance Isadora Duncan was born on May 26th 1877 in San Francisco, California. She became a known dancer and instructor, and she influenced dance techniques today. She was one of the people who came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to modern dance. After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland, California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad returned later and provided a home for his ex wife. When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and automatically fell in love with dance. • 15. Jk Simmons And Character Clash Tyler Christiansen/ Section A/ Whiplash/ Peter Stone A young actor can learn a lot from the performances of JK Simmons and Miles Teller in Whiplash. Throughout the film each actor clearly had an understanding of not only who their character was, but what their character s overall objective was. Building character is essential to a great performance and by watching this film I could easily tell each actor did the proper preparation it took to get a better understanding who Fletcher and Andrew were. These actors are a great example of what we, as actors, should be striving for when we begin to analyze a new character. The chemistry between Simmons and Teller on screen was incredible, and I believe a huge portion of that was due to their comprehension of their characters. A factor that played a great part between these two characters was the idea of high status and low status. Fletcher is clearly the high status character, holding the power to make or break Andrew s life long dream. Simmons plays this part of Fletcher quite clearly through his physical and vocal choices. His movement is very meticulous, almost as if he s constantly thinking about every move he makes. His posture is tall and overbearing, often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 17. Synthesis And Secretion And Dendritic Spine Morphology Calcium controls many neuronal functions, such as neurotransmitter synthesis and secretion and dendritic spine morphology. The role of CaMKKβ is probably best characterised in the brain. CaMKKβ and CaMKKα are both highly expressed in the brain (Anderson et al. 1996), and have been shown to be important in the formation of memory and neuronal plasticity (Wayman et al. 2008). In addition, studies show the CaMK cascade is essential for axon and dendrite elongation in cortical neurons (Ageta Ishihara et al. 2009; Davare et al. 2009), as well as synaptogenesis in hippocampal neurons (Saneyoshi et al. 2008). The CaMK cascade is known to regulate cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) dependent transcriptional activity in vivo, which is important for hippocampal long term memory formation (Lonze and Ginty. 2002). Global CaMKKβ / mice generated by Peters et al were found to have male specific impaired spatial memory formation secondary to reduced spatial training induced CREB activation, as well as impaired long term memory for the social transmission of food preferences secondary to the lack of late long term potentiation at the hippocampal area CA1 synapses (Peters et al. 2003; Mizuno et al. 2007). No difference was found in other types of hippocampus dependent long term memory, including contextual fear memory and passive avoidance, compared to wild type mice suggesting that the formation of these long term memory types do not require the activation of CREB by CaMKKβ. ... • 19. The Battle Of Midway, America And The Empire Of Japan Decisive Point in the Pacific The Battle of Midway became one of the quintessential events in the struggle between the United States of America and the Empire of Japan. Though the official battle only lasted for three days, its outcome signified the turning point for the United States in the pacific theatre as well as the western front where the Allies had begun to achieve a foothold against Adolf Hitler s Nazi Germany. Though it is just one small piece of World War II, The Battle of Midway shows how both technological and tactical advances by the United States Navy were able to outwit the numerically superior Japanese Navy. Japan was a formidable foe, its unyielding resolve pushed the United States to its limits and had it lost the battle it may have changed how historians view history. The Midway Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean approximately 1,486 miles to the west of the island of Hawaii. The U.S. Navy first occupied the islands in the early 1940 s and used them as a forward operations base, which included a seaport with multiple landing strips. Both sides saw the island as a key asset to acquire which in turn would cut the vast size of the Pacific Ocean in half. The Battle of Midway however was not the first time that the islands saw conflict. On December 7 1941, about 30 minutes into the attack on the naval port of Pearl Harbor, Japanese forces made their first attempt to claim the site. The atherosclerosis consisted of complicated lesions that led to a decrease in blood flow and the presence of a thrombus, ultimately resulting in thea lack of blood flow to the right foot and lower leg. Thrombi often appear after a rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque (Coneliue, 2014). This lack of blood flow led to necrosis of the tissues in the right foot and lower leg and ultimately resulted in the need for the AKA. The obstruction in Room 40 s leg was discovered using a diagnostic arteriogram. An arteriogram is an image of the interior of blood vessels, such as arteries, by the use of electromagnetic waves. During this procedure, a dye is injected into the artery revealing any bulges, weakness, lesions or occlusions of the blood vessel. The ability to see any evidence of a a plaque formation or obstruction within a vessel makes an arteriogram an effective method for detecting atherosclerosis (Johns Hopkins Medicine, 2015). After the obstruction was detected with the arteriogram, the patient underwent percutaneous catheter directed thrombolytic therapy with alteplase in order to regain blood flow and nutrients to the right foot and lower leg. This choice of therapy is chosen with the goal to quickly dissolve the arterial obstruction (National Institute of Health, 2014b). Although the TPA in alteplase will not restore the damaged or ... • 23. The True Meaning Of Reading Is Not A Disinterested... For many years authorial intention was recognised as the only true meaning of a text. A philosopher in the twentieth century, Edmund Hursell, recognised the power of consciousness and the phenomenal reality of an appearance which defers questions about an ultimate end. Phenomenology notes an objects existence, but achieves meaning and finds reality through an active conscious and awareness which registers the object, suspending all presuppositions, inferences, or judgements. A text, when criticised phenomenologically, is seen in aesthetic and affective aspects, existing only in the reader. Scholar Stanley Fish extended these ideas into what is now called Reader Response Criticism, or R RC discussing the influence the reader has on the interpretation, making reading an active activity (Cowgill 5). This essay will discuss the idea that reading is not a disinterested activity by applying new critic ideals to enforce upon the notion that meaning is drawn from the readers own interpretations, shaped by their active engagement with the text.. More recently, in 2003, Lisa Zunshine further developed the importance of the reader in textual meaning by drawing from cognitive psychology in her article Theory of the Mind . Zunshine suggests that such an activity is the basis for the very existence of the novel as we know it; the reason we read fiction is because it exercises our mind reading ability (Polvinen). Recently this has been a hotbed topic, within the media but I have been aware of this problem for sometime now. Charles Darwin, The Father Of Evolution Layden Butler Mrs.Warrem Bio I dual credit 14 December 2015 Evolution Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, wisely stated, It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. This statement directly reflects my opinion on the theory of evolution and that of Charles Darwin. Our species has evolved over time and adapted to the conditions that faced us. Charles Darwin, his background and discoveries, along with the evolution of human beings over time prove with great detail just how necessary and realistic evolution is. In most cases, the argument about evolution brings up one s religious values. However, the clear science behind the many theories of evolution outweighs and all religious arguments about this topic.
