2. Before answering the evaluation questions, we
had to conduct a focus group. To do this we
created a closed group on Facebook and asked a
few friends to comment upon the work. Even
though this is a quick, easy way to conduct the
focus group, the problem was that people took
too long to comment or didn’t comment at all.
This meant that the amount of time we had to
make improvements was severely impacted.
3. For our audience feedback, we asked six questions. The
answers told us that the contrast of black and white
separating the film from the behind the scenes sections
worked well and the use of different shot types represented
those used in a featurette. The initial genre that we had
planned for it to be (a comedy/drama) came across well and
was identifiable. Because of the style it has been shot in,
some people also thought that the film was a documentary.
Our audience feedback also told us that the way it had been
edited was quite fast paced, which added a sense of urgency
to the featurette. This emphasises the drama aspect of the
film. Looking at the feedback, the use of music was a good
touch to the film as it ‘created an authentic feel’.
4. The people who took part in our feedback have said
that they would be interested in seeing the rest of
the film and that it would be something they would
enjoy watching. It was also said that the featurette
we created reveals just enough of the films plot to
entice the audience to continue watching without
giving away the entire plot of the film. This means
that the idea of the featurette, (to tease the film
whilst giving behind the scenes aspects of the film)
works in favour of the film. Because our featurette
‘breaks the fourth wall’ between audience and
filming, it adds a postmodern aspect to the
product.
5. Improvements that were highlighted in our audience
feedback are the ending. People thought that it ended
too abruptly, also there was about forty seconds of
nothing at the end. This was a problem that needed
fixing. A suggestion was to leave the featurette as a
cliff hanger, this would entice the audience even more
to watch the film.
Another improvement was to have the interview with
the male actor be longer as we don’t hear much from
him. Another suggestion was to add rolling credits onto
the end.
An improvement suggested was to have the interviews
be more informative and add more behind the scenes
footage of the camera operators.
In conclusion, the main improvement to be made was
the ending as it wasn’t very clear and there was forty
seconds of nothing on the end.
6. The final conclusion that came from our
audience feedback was that the initial ideas
such as genre, target audience etc came across
in the film. However there was a problem with
the way it ended.
Therefore, we are going to make some final
changes to the film, such as sorting out the
ending.
