    •   People want instant recommendations - invalidated

    •   Lack of time is a problem - validated

    •   Remembering events early enough is a problem -
        validated

    •   People would pay simply for a smart reminder
        system - validated

    •   Finding personal & meaningful gifts is the problem
        with the highest pain point - validated

                   Interview Process
  •   The problem interviews were taking longer than
      expected because it became very personal

  •   The MVP led to product feedback rather than
      problem feedback

  •   The problem interviews uncovered the underlying
      process everyone goes through when finding personal
      and meaningful gifts

  •   We learnt that gift buying is a very personal process
      that people need some degree of control over

  •   Be careful of whiplash (polar-opposite opinions)

  •   IP by default is owned by contractors in Australia

  •   An interviewee offered 10 dollars for the prototype

  •   Another interviewee offered a $1 for the smart
      reminders (if it was easy and synced with gCal)

  •   We need to find/create a competitive advantage

  •   Reach out to competitors/potential acquirers from
      day 1

  •   Ask for assistance, not permission

Week 1 Learnings

Giftless What we completed in Week 1 • 11x problem interviews • 72 respondents to a survey we created • Identified the highest pain point (Ideation and finding great gifts) • Identified the process of selecting gifts • Connected with Red Balloon • Many feedback sessions including Adioso and Leni Mayo, Mark Harbottle 2
  • 3. Giftless Assumptions • People want instant recommendations - invalidated • Lack of time is a problem - validated • Remembering events early enough is a problem - validated • People would pay simply for a smart reminder system - validated • Finding personal & meaningful gifts is the problem with the highest pain point - validated 3
  • 4. Giftless Interview Process • The problem interviews were taking longer than expected because it became very personal • The MVP led to product feedback rather than problem feedback • The problem interviews uncovered the underlying process everyone goes through when finding personal and meaningful gifts • We learnt that gift buying is a very personal process that people need some degree of control over • Be careful of whiplash (polar-opposite opinions) 4
  • 5. Giftless Misc Learnings • IP by default is owned by contractors in Australia • An interviewee offered 10 dollars for the prototype • Another interviewee offered a $1 for the smart reminders (if it was easy and synced with gCal) • We need to find/create a competitive advantage • Reach out to competitors/potential acquirers from day 1 • Ask for assistance, not permission 5
