Liar Liar Essay
Stephen Glass was a young writer whose misinformation and fabrications, although found humorous
by his co workers, swayed the public opinion and effected many lives; including his. Like many
professionals, Mr. Glass was skilled at what he did. He was a valued by his colleagues and had an
almost unbreakable bond with them. All was well and dandy at The New Republic till Mr. Glass s
career came crashing down on his face like the twin towers of 9 11. Most of his work at The New
Republic was falsified. He lied to himself, his boss, his co workers, and the public. With the
mendacity of course comes terrible and sometimes life altering consequences. One might ask these
questions. Why did Mr. Glass lie? What did he lie about? And what ... Show more content on

The effect of this ludicrous act reminds me of the story of the boy who cried wolf. It was a story of a
young shepherd whose lies brought about his downfall. The young boy was very protective of his herd
and so people of the village told him that at the sight of a wolf trying to attack his sheep that he should
cry wolf. At first the young shepherd puts his alarm to a test by falsely crying wolf. The villagers came
running to his aide only to find that the boy was trifling with them. The second time he cries, wolf!
Wolf! and the villagers once again came running and the boy laughs. However, the third time the
young shepherd spots a real wolf, he cried, wolf! Wolf! but this time in his disappointment nobody
came running to his rescue. When Mr. Glass was caught in his lies, his career as he knew it, was
flushed down the commode. So you see, lying in fact does come back to bite that chunk out of your
cheek
Finally, after Mr. Glass was fired he had nothing to fall back on except to continue his education at the
law schools he attends most evenings. All because of numerous lies and cover ups. In contrast to this,
Bill Clinton, our former President lied about his affairs with the Monica Lewinsky, an Intern at the
White House. On August 17, 1998, an online article stated that William Jefferson Clinton swore to tell

Bicyclic Lactone Lab Report
In order to generate a bicyclic lactone in this experiment, a Diels Alder adduct was produced. The
bicyclic lactone to be generated was cis 1,3,3a,4,5,7a Hexahydro 5 methyl 3 oxo 4 isobenzofuran
carboxylic Acid and was produced using a Diels Alder reaction. The product was also analyzed
quantitatively using percent yield. To prepare the Diels Alder adduct 0.40 g of 2,4 hexadien 1 ol was
added to a flask, then 5.00 mL of toluene and 0.40 g of maleic anhydride were added to the flask in
that order. The mixture was warmed and stirred to induce a reaction. The reaction progress was
monitored using a TLC plate with 30:70 hexane used as the mobile phase and silica gel as the
stationary phase. The TLC plate revealed a new spot for the crude product, indicating the reaction had
begun. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After 10 minutes the reaction liquid was separated from the solid using a vacuum filtration system and
toluene. The product was stored and dried until week 2 of the experiment. The product was weighed to
be 0.31 g. Percent yield was calculated to be 38.75%. IR spectra data was conducted for the two
starting materials and of the product. Melting point determination was performed on the product and
proton NMR spectrum was given. The IR spectrum revealed peaks at 1720 cm 1, which indicated the
presence of a lactone group, and 1730 cm 1, representing a functional group of a carboxylic acid
(C=O), and 3300cm 1, indicating the presence of an alcohol group (O H). All three peaks correspond
with the desired product. A second TLC using the same mobile and stationary phase as the first was
performed and revealed Rf Values of 0.17 and 0.43for the product. The first value was unique to the
product indicating that the Diels Alder reaction was successful. The other Rf value of 0.43 matched
that of maleic anhydride indicating some

Felix Mendelssohn Essay
Felix Mendelssohn is a well known German composer, pianist and organist of the early Romantic Era.
At a very young age, Felix Mendelssohn quickly established himself as a musical prodigy and is now
studied by people across the world. What many do not know is that Felix had an older sister who was
also a musical prodigy; however, unfortunately, she does not get the same credit as her older brother.
Due to the gender politics of this time, women who performed after the age of one who should be
married were looked at negatively in society. Women were meant to serve their husbands and take care
of the children, not to compose or perform at musical venues. Pieces from both Songs without Words
composed by Felix Mendelssohn and Das Jahr composed by Fanny Mendelssohn have so many
similarities. When taking a closer look at Felix s compositional work, it is sometimes
indistinguishable to the works of Fanny. Felix and Fanny were only four years apart, influencing them
to be rather close to one another. In the early stages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This piece sounds extremely similar to the piece analyzed from Songs Without Words. September
known as At the River by Fanny, is a piece full of timbre and written for a solo pianist. When
listening, you can really picture a river flowing in the month of September. At this time of year, it is
usually beginning to get colder, making the current a bit rougher. The wind is flowing for some time
but then quiets down. The rhythmic motion of this piece represents the season changing from summer
to fall. Nothing is certain in September, it is always shifting or changing, just as this composition.
Halfway through the composition, it shifts from a major key to a minor key. The melody of this piece
is both legato and staccato, consisting of many progressions and trills. There is a very large range of
keys, just as Felix s

The s Model Of Culture Care Theory
Healthcare in the United States of America is an ever increasing field of diversity. Many healthcare
workers are uneducated in diversity, resulting in insufficient patient care. As a result patients from
different backgrounds do not receive proper treatment, and refuse to seek medical attention, or are
over charged for simple procedures. Educating healthcare workers is the key to decreasing
unnecessary physician visits as well as providing patients with the sense of understanding and respect
regarding their health decisions. The preceding information will provide a brief overview of Leinigner
s Model of Culture Care Theory, Leinigner s theory applied to the Colombian Culture for medical
professionals, feelings about access to health care, barriers in healthcare, alternative medicine and
food preferences. The Leininger s Culture Care Theory focuses on culturally congruent care for
diverse clients based on healthcare workers becoming cultural competent. Leininger s model can be
applied to any healthcare practice as a clinical assessment tool (Leininger, 2002). A practicing nursing
professional should focus on providing culturally adapted care, functions, and acknowledge any social
norms for the client. The client s health should also be adapted based on what is culturally defined as a
positive or negative state of well being (Creasia Friberg, 2011). If a nurse incorporates Leiniger s
theory, then the professional will ...reduce and prevent violence in the

The City Of Quezon City
The history of Quezon City is teeming with hardship. It was originally designed and created as a
utopian planned city to function as the capital of the Philippines, replacing Manila. Due to several
unforeseen circumstances, including World War II and the death of the original designer, the plans
were put on hold. Because of the problems that Quezon City originally faced, it was never fully
implemented and never lived up to its expectation as the capital, but continues to flourish as a cultural,
economic, and educational hub in the Philippines.
Quezon City is located on a fertile plain, with a forest to the north and cities in the other directions.
The center of the city has one main oval, known as Quezon City Circle. Originally intended ... Show

However, after the War, the Filipino planning authority decided to move the University of the
Philippines to the east of the circle. The university campus still has significant green space, parks, and
sports fields. To the north of the circle is the small Arboretum Forest, poorly maintained by the
University of the Philippines, and often occupied by illegal settlements1. The largest manmade park in
the region lies to the east, just outside of the original design for Quezon City. In addition, just to the
north of the city is an undeveloped forest and lake, La Mesa Watershed and Eco Park, which blends
into the mountains even further north. Although not originally planned as part of the city s park
systems, La Mesa very popular and is the largest park in the Quezon City region.2
In 1906, the US Congress commissioned Daniel Burnham to design the new city plan for Manila,
which would have been the first contemporary design for a city in the East, mirroring many aspects of
McMillan s plan for Washington DC. It mimicked the City Beautiful Movement in the West, with
neoclassical architecture. Burnham himself wrote about the chance to create a Eurocentric utopia in
the East, yet still small in area, possessing the bay of Naples, the winding river of Paris, and the canals
of Venice, Manila has before it an opportunity unique in the history of modern times, to create a
unified city equal to the

Lizzie Borden Murders
For the past century, the Murders of Andrew J. Borden and his wife Abby Borden became one of
America s obsessions. From the towns people of Fall River Massachusetts to the rest of the country,
the Borden murders became the topic of interest. The case shocked the nation as Lizzie Borden a 32
year old school teacher was put on trial for the murders of her parents.
On August 4, 1892, at 92 Second Street Fall River Massachusetts, Andrew Borden and Abby Borden
were found murdered in their homes. Andrew Borden, the richest man in Fall River, was found dead
by his daughter Lizzie Borden, on a couch in the sitting area. Lizzie called to the household maid,
Bridget Sullivan, to come down from the attic to inform her that Mr. Borden was dead. ... Show more

During Dr. Bowen s autopsy, Mrs. Borden revealed to have been hit nineteen times, killed by the same
hatchet or ax that had killed Mr. Borden, who was hit eleven times. Mrs. Borden s blood had started to
get dark and congeal, showing Dr. Bowen that she was killed before Mr. Borden.
Over the weeks following the murders, investigators made a timeline from August 3rd, the day before
the murders, to August 7th, the day Miss Russell had seen Lizzie burning a dress. On August third
Abby Borden had gone to see Dr. Bowen, claiming she and Mr. Borden had been poisoned because
both of them had been violently ill the night before. Not thinking her nausea was severe he sent her
home. When Dr. Bowen went to check on his neighbors, Mr. Borden told him he wasn t ill and to
leave because he wasn t going to pay for the house call; Bridget was also sick that same morning,
however, there was no poisons found in the Borden s autopsies. Also, that same day, Lizzie had tried
to buy Prussic acid from the drug store, but without a prescription the clerk wouldn t sell it to her.
Later in the afternoon on August 3rd Lizzie s uncle, John Morse had arrived, only planning on
spending the night; Lizzie claimed to have went straight to bed that night and never saw her uncle.
Then on august fourth, the day of the murders, Bridget woke at 6:15 to start her daily chores, Mr. and
Mrs. Borden woke at seven and had their breakfast. At 8:45 Uncle John left; Lizzie came downstairs a

Sonny s Blues By James Baldwin Essay
Sonny s Blues is a narration about two siblings brothers who choose very different routes in life in
order to accomplish the zenith of individualism, expressionism and recognition. In doing so, they take
a glimpse into one another s spheres and learn to assent and appreciate each other for who they are. In
1951, Baldwin wrote Sonny s Blues, a story of the ills that Harlem provided its youth. In Baldwin s
telling of the narration, it forms a nous of liberation, an atmosphere of therapeutic acceptance for the
author, in which Baldwin develops to express his own state through his virtuoso of storytelling. To put
it inanely, Baldwin has such a fine grasp of the linguistic and such great urge to interpret that he can
move even his stoutest detractors to emotion and response.
Walter Dean Myers (2014), a famous New York Times journalist wrote that ...I read a story by James
Baldwin: Sonny s Blues. I didn t love the story, but I was lifted by it, for it took place in Harlem, and it
was a story concerned with black people like those I knew. By humanizing the people who were like
me, Baldwin s story also humanized me. The story gave me a permission that I didn t know I needed,
the permission to write about my own landscape, my own map. It broods a similar contentment in the
reader that the reader s conscience is questioned by the exposé of the veracity of the characters
quandary and epiphany and thus, a deep level of appreciative ness of the American Negro s struggle is

Noises Off Play Essay
On Tuesday the twenty first of March my mother and I went to the beautiful San Francisco Playhouse,
to watch a play within a play called Noises Off! written by Michael Frayn. I originally had my
reservations about the play, without doing any research about the play ahead of time I didn t know
quite what to expect. I knew that it was a comedy and that it was about a second rate comedy troupe.
But I ended up being pleasantly surprised by it and really liked Noises Off! This play is a classic case
of a farce based off of plot complications, the interactions between the cast is what really makes it
enjoyable.
The San Francisco Playhouse is located on the second floor of the Kensington Hotel directly in the
center of San Francisco s theatre district. We sat in the balcony across from the Proscenium stage with
seating down below as well. With stage lighting, hanging from the ceiling and on the walls pointing at

The play is three acts with one intermission and shows the first act of a fictional play called Nothing
On from three different nights on their ten week tour: the technical rehearsal, one night a month later,
and a final towards the end of the tour. With each new showing, we see the characters at different
stages and in different relations to each other. Which more than the script itself makes the show what
it is, a farce, a comedy riddled with plot complications; an unready crew, a relationship gone awry, and
finally a tired crew and props breaking and winding up in the wrong hands at the wrong time. This
play while a simple one is something that almost anyone can enjoy and leaves one laughing in the end.
So while it has no life lesson or political affirmation to leave one thinking about in the end it s just

Why Righteous Gentiles Helped Jews
WHAT MOTIVATED RIGHTEOUS GENTILES TO SAVE JEWISH PEOPLE? WAS IT ALTRUISM

During the Holocaust period (1939 1945) many Jewish lives were saved by non Jews. These saviours
were referred to as Righteous Gentiles.
Many hundreds of these non Jewish people have been honoured for their bravery and personal
sacrifice, of which the German industrialist Oskar Schindler is probably the best known.
We might never know exactly what motivated these individuals or groups to risk torture and death

In Ring Lardner s short story Haircut , the narrator is a straightforward barber, who goes by the name
Whitey. The story is about Whitey tells a customer about the well liked regular at the local barbershop,
Jim Kendell. At first the barber makes it seem that Jim is a good old fella, but depending on some
people s views, and on Jim s actions towards people, they will quickly discover that Jim is a selfish
jerk. Keeping this in mind there are two important questions that are brought up throughout the story,
which are if Jim s life actually matter to the town and was Jim an evil person; personally, I believe that
Jim was not a completely evil person and that the town did not value his life.

Throughout the story when Jim s wife is mention, Whitney would said As I say, she d of divorced Jim,
only she seen that she couldn t support herself and the kids... However, I believe this wasn t the real
reason why Jim s wife wouldn t divorce him. I think she was afraid of what he would do if she tried,
there was cases where he didn t get he s way he would slash out by playing a cruel joke on someone,
and besides after Jim lost his job with the Carterville people he only did little paid jobs around town
and use the money to buy gin. Whitney mentions that the only reason why the children didn t starve
was, because the stores in town were supporting them; also Jim s wife was trying to make money by
making clothing. Therefore, she wouldn t divorce him for financially reasons, but for safety of the
family.
Now keeping this all in mind, did Jim really matter to the town, or was he just the town s biggest joke?
The conclusion I have about this is that the town was just keeping Jim around just for the stories, so
they would have something to talk about. There was a man named Hod Meyers who was also known
for his jokes around town, but he wasn t as cruel or as famous as Jim, therefore the town didn t like
Jim solely for him. Also, by the way Whitney talks about Jim at the end of the story by saying He
certainly was a card! Comb it wet or dry? leaves the reader with the thought that Jim was just another

Essay about Nine Inch Nails versus Johnny Cash
Which Version Of Hurt Would You Prefer?
Nine Inch Nails versus Johnny Cash The song Hurt written by Trent Reznor and originally performed
by his band Nine Inch Nails is a melancholy, haunting song. Nine Inch Nails version was recorded in
1994 and rerecorded and released by Johnny Cash in 2002. Each of the performers has a style, which
some people would argue is at opposite ends of the spectrum of popular music; one is what is referred
to as Industrial Rock , the other is country. Indeed, the musical genres are diverse; however, the song
Hurt transcends the boundaries between old and new, hard and soft, and especially the differences and

Reznor is not only a performer; he regularly produces records for other artists ( The Nine Inch Nails

cover the song Hurt . Sharples states, It was as if Trent Reznor unconsciously wrote it for Mr. Cash
(2011). Trent Reznor was flattered that someone with Johnny s musical talent and long standing status
in the music world would even be interested in interpreting his song. When Trent first heard the final
copy of Johnny s version, Trent stated, . . .it felt like somebody kissed your girlfriend ( The Nine Inch
Nails Wiki, 2012). According to Sharples, it would be some four months later that Trent and his music
team would see Johnny s video for the song. It was then that Reznor was flattered, honored, and
moved to tears by the results (2011). Reznor says. By the end I was really on the verge of tears. There
was, like, this moist clearing of our throats and then, Uh, OK, let s get some coffee. (Sharples, 2011).
After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Trent became angry at the lack of response of the

and made music that earned Platinum status in sales. Reznor played a benefit telethon concert to aid

Organizational Culture And The Lincoln Electric Company
ORGANISATIONAL CULTURE AND THE LINCOLN ELECTRIC COMPANY
The success of a business is intimately tied to the success of its culture. To understand better how
organisational culture is created and maintained we will examine one of America s most successfully
managed companies, the Lincoln Electric company. We will examine many aspects of the company
that contribute to its culture, such as the influence of the company s founders, the golden rule, the
incentive management plan, the performance appraisal system, the merit pay plan, the bonus plan, the
way people communicate within the company and the management style. In analysing these we will
reveal a strong people oriented culture formed and maintained for over a century.

Consequently, there has never been an attempt at unionising within the company and this is partly due
to there not being a need. When workers are not being exploited, there is no need for them to fight
back.
James Lincoln was the son of a congregational minister and his Christian values were a guiding
principle in his managerial decisions. When viewing his employee policies, we can see the golden rule
at work. The needs of employees at every level are thoughtfully considered and aligned with the needs
of the company. More than that, the customer is also given great consideration and the creation of
products with real value is given providence over marketing or advertising. There is a genuine
commitment to creating real worth rather than short term profits. James treats both the customers and
the employees with respect and dignity, creating a culture is that is people oriented. The only people
involved in the business that are not see as important are the shareholders. They are not actively
involved in the business and their interests are therefore seen as the least important. This attitude may
have protected Lincoln from a gradual change toward a more aggressive or sales oriented culture.
Lincoln s incentive management plan is not only exemplary in its structure, but also in its
implementation. For example, piece work has been shown to increase worker productivity, but has
also been widely abused as a means of rewarding workers less for the work

Question 1: Explain the theoretical rationale for the NPV approach to investment appraisal and
compare the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used approaches.
(30 marks)
This first section of this paper will provide a brief explanation on theoretical rationale for the net
present value (NPV) method of investment appraisal and then compare its strengths and weaknesses to
two alternative methods of investment appraisal, those of internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back.
Theoretical rationale for the NPV approach
The net present value rule or NPV devised by Hirshleifer (1958), is the fundamental model of how
firms decide whether to invest in a project, commonly known as the investment decision , or ... Show

G is also happy to invest because they can borrow against the future payoff of the investment. By
investing G gets £20,000 more to spend today (£200,000 less £180,000). It would pay for either
investor to borrow to invest in the opportunity due to the returns on offer.
Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs,
asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain
imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al (2008)
state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free access to
competitive capital markets. This is due to when affirm chooses only positive NPV projects, they will
be meeting the shareholders and firms objective of maximising wealth. Instead of solely seeking a
maximisation of wealth that might negatively impact in other areas (e.g. future profits, return on
investment etc), NPV accounts for the time value of money, opportunity cost of capital and differences
in project rates of return.
Comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used
approaches
This report will now focus on comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two
other investment appraisal approaches, internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back.

How to Identify a Precognitive Dream
Future prediction, whether through a precognitive dream or a psychic reading, rarely give a play by

She became furious when she ask the questions three different ways and my Angels kept giving her

I dreamed that I was with my man, C., and his male friend/co worker at an interesting store. In our

and didn t want to leave.
In the second scene we are with a bunch of his co workers in a place that looks like a department

that he wasn t with me and left me stuck here.
The dream had a precognitive vibe to it, yet I was puzzled to its meaning. I got a text from C. letting
me know we had two opportunities to go out this Saturday and if I was interested. The first was from

definition either; fate is out of our control, and is determined by the super natural. And loss, loss
affects everyone, it affects people in different ways however it s always there and sometimes comes
when we least expect it to. Especially in Romeo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fate in a strange way wanted it all to work out and it wanted Romeo and Juliet to be truly happy.
However there was always something more being thrown at them making their love something that
looked more impossible rather than possible. Romeo and Juliet are stuck in this bad fortune and
Romeo even goes as far as to say I am fortune s fool . This is significant because it is saying that their
free will to love each other and be together is nonexistent. They are doomed from the start no matter
what actions they try and take their destiny is in not in their favor. Love however in this story is the
entire meaning to everything. Love is why Romeo and Juliet die. Love is why everything gets so
complicated and so upsetting. Love is everything and more in this play and leads up to the most tragic
endings to a love story in the history of love stories and the most unexpected losses for two lovers and
their families. Romeo and Juliet found love the moment they set eyes on each other and they knew it
was for real and forever in that very moment.
ROMEO
[To JULIET] If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle fine is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
JULIET
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
For saints have hands that pilgrims hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers kiss.

Economic Inequalities In Health Care
Alexis,
Inequalities surrounding both structural and distributive practices, places a greater emphasis on the
importance of using the two together. You also mentioned the relative income hypothesis from last s
week discussion. Thank you for presenting this connection. Indeed economic inequalities will
negatively impact mortality rates within any population. Sadly, higher inequality rates do lead to
worse health outcomes. For instance, Marlboro County in South Carolina has the highest income
inequality rate (5.3%). The County also has the highest premature death (11,700 per 100,000) and
lowest quality of life (physical, and mental health; low birthweight) rates (CHRR, 2016). When
comparing these rates to Beaufort County, who has the best rankings ... Show more content on

I spoke about how the pharamactuel industry has been ungoverned, resulting in monopolies being
created. As new drugs are developed and marketed at higher prices, than those already on the market,
existing drug prices rise as well; even if the demand has not increased. Also, prices increase without
much knowledge of its effectiveness versus existing drugs.
I also found your discussion about Japan quite interesting. My family member has lived in Okinawa,
Japan for over a decade and he has mentioned that healthcare here is the least of his concerns; even
when he was uninsured. One year he developed a severe cold and recalled paying less than $100 for
the physicians service s and medication. In the U.S., a trip to the emergency room for just a headache
could cost anywhere from $15 to $17,797. And the median charge for an upper respiratory infection is
$740 (Fernandez, 2013). Of course, insurance policies covers many from high out of pocket costs, but
for the uninsured this amount can be crippling. As you briefly mentioned, the cost of medical services
are steadily rising, but the quality of care fails to do so. In last week s reading, Emanuel (2010), gave
an example of a fairly wealthy woman experiencing poor quality of care in some of this country s
great hospitals . Her example illustrates how quality of care is greatly being

Creationism versus Evolutionism
Evolution by natural selection is a result of evolution that leaves organisms well adapted to their
current population but does not make a perfect organism (Smock 2014). Male guppies have shown
over the past 200 years to have more or less colorful patterns decorating their bodies. Studies have
shown that male guppies have more colorful body patterns in areas where there are no predators and
more conservative colorations when in hostile waters (Futuyuma 2009). A 1980 study proved that
once guppies were moved to safer waters, in the next later generations, more colorful male guppies
began to appear (Futuyuma 2009). The guppy applies to the first rule of natural selection that there is
variation in a trait in an organism in a population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other reason that Intelligent Design is not able to stand as a scientific theory is that it is inherently
religious and therefore not actually scientific. That is proven in Judgment Day when it is discovered
that prior to the court ruling that outlawed Creationism being taught in school, the textbook that was
going to be used to teach Intelligent Design was using the word Creationism instead until it was
changed in the next editing phase (Judgment Day 2014).
What one must do to reconcile science and religion is to let go of the idea that one discipline rules out
the other (Miller 2001). Professor Ken Brown theorizes that maybe a higher power created a world
that was complex and alive at it s base and then allow it to be self sustaining, developing on it s own
(Miller 2001) which is a theory that I can agree with. What needs to be understood is that science will
never be able to explain why there is or is not a higher power and religion will never be able to explain
widely accepted theories like evolution (Miller 2001). They both function on their own realities, one
where science answers the natural world around us and one where religion gives meaning to our lives
(Miller 2001). The rift is made because there are people that deny the idea that something other than a
higher power was behind the beginning of

The Purpose Of Student Service Learning
Kids and teens in school these days are told to work hard to benefit their future. There s so many
options for colleges and careers. Sometimes it s hard for students to get recognized by colleges even if
there academics are amazing or you re a stellar athlete. These students are missing a piece, community
service. Community service is an experience that can teach you so much. That s why some schools are
making it a necessity to graduate. Schools have started a program called Student Service Learning
(SSL) . The purpose of SSL hours is to address needs in a way that reinforces curriculum goals
because they arm students with knowledge , skills and attitude necessary for productivity in an
increasingly diverse and interconnected world, (Silver

Musculoskeletal Disorder Case Study
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) affect the back, neck, shoulders and upper limbs, but can also
affect the lower limbs. They may result from more than one of these tissues. Causes Most work related
MSDs develop over time. Normally they do not have a single cause: they are often caused by a
combination of several factors. Among the physical causes and risk factors related to work
organization include: Handling loads , especially when you rotate or bend your back; Repetitive
movements or that require an effort; Taking improper or static postures; Vibration, low light or work
in cold environments; Intense pace of work; Prolonged retention of the same standing position or

These disorders are not common during adulthood, but the risk increases with age. This is why it is
essential to change your lifestyle habits now to avoid the potential pain later. Regular strengthening
exercises and stretching can help keep the bones, joints and muscles strong. Also be careful in the
manner in which you complete your daily tasks. Maintain a high posture to prevent back pain and be

Concentration Of Iron And Chemical Substance
Concentration of Iron in an Unknown Substance
Jack Boswell
Experiment 5
Megan Otting and Dr. Caster
Introduction:
The objective of this lab was to determine the concentration of iron (Fe+2) in an unknown substance
using a spectrophotometer. Spectrophotometry is a process that uses a sample solution to determine
how much light a chemical substance absorbs by measuring the intensity of a beam of light passing
through the solution. Every substance transmits light over a specific wavelength range, so
spectrophotometry is often used to measure the amount of a known chemical in an unknown
substance. White light, or sunlight, is shot through the opening slit of a cuvette containing the
substance. The reflection of the substance by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Absorbance and concentration provide a starting point for an analysis of many substances. The
absorbencies of solutions of known concentrations are plotted on a Beer s law plot. Then, using
absorbencies calculated and dilution factors, one can calculate the concentration of a substance in a
solution. In this lab, I was able to successfully use spectrophotometry to calculate the average
concentration of iron in an unknown solution.
Methods:
In order to calculate the concentration of iron in an unknown substance, many steps had to be taken.
First, a stock iron solution was prepared by measuring exactly 0.0135g of ferrous ammonium sulfate
[Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2·6H2O], mixing it with approximately 5.2mL of 2.0 M H2SO4, and diluting the
solution to 200mL. Following this, a diluted 1,10 phenanthroline solution was prepared by obtaining
approximately 50.0mL of 1,10 phenanthroline monohydrate in ethanol solution and diluting it to
200mL with deionized (DI) water. Then 9 200 mL volumetric flasks were cleaned and labeled A I.
Flasks B F were filled with exactly 2.00, 5.00, 10.00, 25.00, and 50.00 mL of the stock iron solution
respectively. Flask A was used as a control and was instead filled with 100mL of DI water. Flasks
G,H, and I were filled with exactly 25.00mL of Unknown Iron Solution E0717. Then all flasks A I
received approximately 2.0mL of hydroxylammonium chloride solution,

Laws In Antigone By Sophocles
Throughout the play of Antigone as seen in Sophocles by Robert Fables, there are various instances
displaying the importance of the laws of the gods versus the laws of the people for the character,
Antigone. She often chose to obey the godly laws more so than those made by man, Creon in
particular. Antigone prioritized godly laws over manly laws in regards to her own living and decision
making, thus setting an example for us all if for the common good. Antigone stated that she will stand
by her choices no matter the consequences or circumstances if it meant she was obeying the laws of
the gods. As it says on page 82 lines 509 511, These laws I was not about to break them, not of fear of
some man s wounded pride, and face the retribution

The Iowa State Teaching Standards
The Iowa State teaching standards helped me throughout student teaching, and prepared me to be an
effective classroom teacher. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how
the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one
standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain
how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student
teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being
my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods
(standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards
are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate
for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content
and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math
standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and
answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a
concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the
needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking

Throughout my time at Bowie State University I have gained experience with analytical concepts and

discussed included decision making and decision analysis, linear programming, transportation and
assignment problems, forecasting and time series analysis, inventory concepts and mathematical
simulation. Perfect example of this was we were told to find valuable information about a company as

John Paul The Great
Spider man is a well loved superhero that has filled the childhood of many young men and women.
Most people are familiar with his story; a nerdy boy who gets bit by a radioactive spider and becomes
a superhero. Initially he begins his work wanting to help people, but as the story progresses he begins
looking for suites that will make him stronger and faster. This is when he finds the Venom costume.
Unfortunately, the costume has a mind of its own, and it slowly corrupts Peter Parkers mind and
makes him into what he never wanted to be in the first place. The more power Peter Parker had, the
more focused on himself he became and the less able to be the superhero he had set out to be. This is a
common theme throughout history; the second a person takes their eyes off of the people they are
leading and focuses instead on being faster and stronger, is the second that they fail as a leader. Pope
Saint John Paul the Great is a wonderful example of what leadership aught to look like an example of
loving and putting others first, and ultimately leading them closer to Christ. ... Show more content on

Importance Of Thanksgiving In 1777
The Continental Congress announced a Thanksgiving for the thirteen colonies in 1777, but it was only
a regional holiday. So in 1789, President George Washington declared Thursday, November 26 to be a
day of public thanksgiving and prayer. For the next two centuries, days of thanksgiving were
celebrated by individual colonies and states.
Until Sarah Josepha Hale, author of the nursery rhyme Mary had a Little Lamb, and editor of Godey s
Lady s Book, became one of the most influential people in making Thanksgiving a national holiday.
She fought for 17 years and finally, during the Civil War, she convinced President Lincoln. On
October 3, 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued a Thanksgiving Proclamation to invite fellow citizens in

  • 2. Liar Liar Essay Stephen Glass was a young writer whose misinformation and fabrications, although found humorous by his co workers, swayed the public opinion and effected many lives; including his. Like many professionals, Mr. Glass was skilled at what he did. He was a valued by his colleagues and had an almost unbreakable bond with them. All was well and dandy at The New Republic till Mr. Glass s career came crashing down on his face like the twin towers of 9 11. Most of his work at The New Republic was falsified. He lied to himself, his boss, his co workers, and the public. With the mendacity of course comes terrible and sometimes life altering consequences. One might ask these questions. Why did Mr. Glass lie? What did he lie about? And what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effect of this ludicrous act reminds me of the story of the boy who cried wolf. It was a story of a young shepherd whose lies brought about his downfall. The young boy was very protective of his herd and so people of the village told him that at the sight of a wolf trying to attack his sheep that he should cry wolf. At first the young shepherd puts his alarm to a test by falsely crying wolf. The villagers came running to his aide only to find that the boy was trifling with them. The second time he cries, wolf! Wolf! and the villagers once again came running and the boy laughs. However, the third time the young shepherd spots a real wolf, he cried, wolf! Wolf! but this time in his disappointment nobody came running to his rescue. When Mr. Glass was caught in his lies, his career as he knew it, was flushed down the commode. So you see, lying in fact does come back to bite that chunk out of your cheek Finally, after Mr. Glass was fired he had nothing to fall back on except to continue his education at the law schools he attends most evenings. All because of numerous lies and cover ups. In contrast to this, Bill Clinton, our former President lied about his affairs with the Monica Lewinsky, an Intern at the White House. The bicyclic lactone to be generated was cis 1,3,3a,4,5,7a Hexahydro 5 methyl 3 oxo 4 isobenzofuran carboxylic Acid and was produced using a Diels Alder reaction. The product was also analyzed quantitatively using percent yield. To prepare the Diels Alder adduct 0.40 g of 2,4 hexadien 1 ol was added to a flask, then 5.00 mL of toluene and 0.40 g of maleic anhydride were added to the flask in that order. The mixture was warmed and stirred to induce a reaction. The reaction progress was monitored using a TLC plate with 30:70 hexane used as the mobile phase and silica gel as the stationary phase. • 6. Felix Mendelssohn Essay Felix Mendelssohn is a well known German composer, pianist and organist of the early Romantic Era. At a very young age, Felix Mendelssohn quickly established himself as a musical prodigy and is now studied by people across the world. What many do not know is that Felix had an older sister who was also a musical prodigy; however, unfortunately, she does not get the same credit as her older brother. Due to the gender politics of this time, women who performed after the age of one who should be married were looked at negatively in society. Women were meant to serve their husbands and take care of the children, not to compose or perform at musical venues. Pieces from both Songs without Words composed by Felix Mendelssohn and Das Jahr composed by Fanny Mendelssohn have so many similarities. Many healthcare workers are uneducated in diversity, resulting in insufficient patient care. As a result patients from different backgrounds do not receive proper treatment, and refuse to seek medical attention, or are over charged for simple procedures. Educating healthcare workers is the key to decreasing unnecessary physician visits as well as providing patients with the sense of understanding and respect regarding their health decisions. The preceding information will provide a brief overview of Leinigner s Model of Culture Care Theory, Leinigner s theory applied to the Colombian Culture for medical professionals, feelings about access to health care, barriers in healthcare, alternative medicine and food preferences. The Leininger s Culture Care Theory focuses on culturally congruent care for diverse clients based on healthcare workers becoming cultural competent. Leininger s model can be applied to any healthcare practice as a clinical assessment tool (Leininger, 2002). A practicing nursing professional should focus on providing culturally adapted care, functions, and acknowledge any social norms for the client. The client s health should also be adapted based on what is culturally defined as a positive or negative state of well being (Creasia Friberg, 2011). • 10. Sonny s Blues By James Baldwin Essay Sonny s Blues is a narration about two siblings brothers who choose very different routes in life in order to accomplish the zenith of individualism, expressionism and recognition. In doing so, they take a glimpse into one another s spheres and learn to assent and appreciate each other for who they are. In 1951, Baldwin wrote Sonny s Blues, a story of the ills that Harlem provided its youth. In Baldwin s telling of the narration, it forms a nous of liberation, an atmosphere of therapeutic acceptance for the author, in which Baldwin develops to express his own state through his virtuoso of storytelling. To put it inanely, Baldwin has such a fine grasp of the linguistic and such great urge to interpret that he can move even his stoutest detractors to emotion and response. Walter Dean Myers (2014), a famous New York Times journalist wrote that ...I read a story by James Baldwin: Sonny s Blues. I didn t love the story, but I was lifted by it, for it took place in Harlem, and it was a story concerned with black people like those I knew. When viewing his employee policies, we can see the golden rule at work. The needs of employees at every level are thoughtfully considered and aligned with the needs of the company. Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs, asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al (2008) state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free access to competitive capital markets. Love is why Romeo and Juliet die. Love is why everything gets so complicated and so upsetting. Love is everything and more in this play and leads up to the most tragic endings to a love story in the history of love stories and the most unexpected losses for two lovers and their families. Romeo and Juliet found love the moment they set eyes on each other and they knew it was for real and forever in that very moment. ROMEO [To JULIET] If I profane with my unworthiest hand This holy shrine, the gentle fine is this: My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss. JULIET Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, Which mannerly devotion shows in this; For saints have hands that pilgrims hands do touch, And palm to palm is holy palmers kiss. • 22. Economic Inequalities In Health Care Alexis, Inequalities surrounding both structural and distributive practices, places a greater emphasis on the importance of using the two together. You also mentioned the relative income hypothesis from last s week discussion. Thank you for presenting this connection. Indeed economic inequalities will negatively impact mortality rates within any population. Sadly, higher inequality rates do lead to worse health outcomes. For instance, Marlboro County in South Carolina has the highest income inequality rate (5.3%). The County also has the highest premature death (11,700 per 100,000) and lowest quality of life (physical, and mental health; low birthweight) rates (CHRR, 2016). When comparing these rates to Beaufort County, who has the best rankings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I spoke about how the pharamactuel industry has been ungoverned, resulting in monopolies being created. As new drugs are developed and marketed at higher prices, than those already on the market, existing drug prices rise as well; even if the demand has not increased. Also, prices increase without much knowledge of its effectiveness versus existing drugs. I also found your discussion about Japan quite interesting. My family member has lived in Okinawa, Japan for over a decade and he has mentioned that healthcare here is the least of his concerns; even when he was uninsured. One year he developed a severe cold and recalled paying less than $100 for the physicians service s and medication. In the U.S., a trip to the emergency room for just a headache could cost anywhere from $15 to $17,797. And the median charge for an upper respiratory infection is $740 (Fernandez, 2013). Of course, insurance policies covers many from high out of pocket costs, but for the uninsured this amount can be crippling. As you briefly mentioned, the cost of medical services are steadily rising, but the quality of care fails to do so. In last week s reading, Emanuel (2010), gave an example of a fairly wealthy woman experiencing poor quality of care in some of this country s great hospitals . Her example illustrates how quality of care is greatly being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Creationism versus Evolutionism Evolution by natural selection is a result of evolution that leaves organisms well adapted to their current population but does not make a perfect organism (Smock 2014). Male guppies have shown over the past 200 years to have more or less colorful patterns decorating their bodies. Studies have shown that male guppies have more colorful body patterns in areas where there are no predators and more conservative colorations when in hostile waters (Futuyuma 2009). A 1980 study proved that once guppies were moved to safer waters, in the next later generations, more colorful male guppies began to appear (Futuyuma 2009). The other reason that Intelligent Design is not able to stand as a scientific theory is that it is inherently religious and therefore not actually scientific. That is proven in Judgment Day when it is discovered that prior to the court ruling that outlawed Creationism being taught in school, the textbook that was going to be used to teach Intelligent Design was using the word Creationism instead until it was changed in the next editing phase (Judgment Day 2014). What one must do to reconcile science and religion is to let go of the idea that one discipline rules out the other (Miller 2001). Professor Ken Brown theorizes that maybe a higher power created a world that was complex and alive at it s base and then allow it to be self sustaining, developing on it s own (Miller 2001) which is a theory that I can agree with. What needs to be understood is that science will never be able to explain why there is or is not a higher power and religion will never be able to explain widely accepted theories like evolution (Miller 2001). They both function on their own realities, one where science answers the natural world around us and one where religion gives meaning to our lives (Miller 2001). The rift is made because there are people that deny the idea that something other than a higher power was behind the beginning of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They may result from more than one of these tissues. Causes Most work related MSDs develop over time. Among the physical causes and risk factors related to work organization include: Handling loads , especially when you rotate or bend your back; Repetitive movements or that require an effort; Taking improper or static postures; Vibration, low light or work in cold environments; Intense pace of work; Prolonged retention of the same standing position or sitting. • 26. Concentration Of Iron And Chemical Substance Concentration of Iron in an Unknown Substance Jack Boswell Experiment 5 Megan Otting and Dr. Caster Introduction: The objective of this lab was to determine the concentration of iron (Fe+2) in an unknown substance using a spectrophotometer. Spectrophotometry is a process that uses a sample solution to determine how much light a chemical substance absorbs by measuring the intensity of a beam of light passing through the solution. Every substance transmits light over a specific wavelength range, so spectrophotometry is often used to measure the amount of a known chemical in an unknown substance. White light, or sunlight, is shot through the opening slit of a cuvette containing the substance. The reflection of the substance by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Absorbance and concentration provide a starting point for an analysis of many substances. The absorbencies of solutions of known concentrations are plotted on a Beer s law plot. Then, using absorbencies calculated and dilution factors, one can calculate the concentration of a substance in a solution. In this lab, I was able to successfully use spectrophotometry to calculate the average concentration of iron in an unknown solution. Methods: In order to calculate the concentration of iron in an unknown substance, many steps had to be taken. First, a stock iron solution was prepared by measuring exactly 0.0135g of ferrous ammonium sulfate [Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2·6H2O], mixing it with approximately 5.2mL of 2.0 M H2SO4, and diluting the solution to 200mL. Following this, a diluted 1,10 phenanthroline solution was prepared by obtaining approximately 50.0mL of 1,10 phenanthroline monohydrate in ethanol solution and diluting it to 200mL with deionized (DI) water. Then 9 200 mL volumetric flasks were cleaned and labeled A I. Flasks B F were filled with exactly 2.00, 5.00, 10.00, 25.00, and 50.00 mL of the stock iron solution respectively. Flask A was used as a control and was instead filled with 100mL of DI water. Flasks G,H, and I were filled with exactly 25.00mL of Unknown Iron Solution E0717. Then all flasks A I received approximately 2.0mL of hydroxylammonium chloride solution, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Laws In Antigone By Sophocles Throughout the play of Antigone as seen in Sophocles by Robert Fables, there are various instances displaying the importance of the laws of the gods versus the laws of the people for the character, Antigone. She often chose to obey the godly laws more so than those made by man, Creon in particular. Antigone prioritized godly laws over manly laws in regards to her own living and decision making, thus setting an example for us all if for the common good. Antigone stated that she will stand by her choices no matter the consequences or circumstances if it meant she was obeying the laws of the gods. • 29. The Iowa State Teaching Standards The Iowa State teaching standards helped me throughout student teaching, and prepared me to be an effective classroom teacher. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods (standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. John Paul The Great Spider man is a well loved superhero that has filled the childhood of many young men and women. Most people are familiar with his story; a nerdy boy who gets bit by a radioactive spider and becomes a superhero. Initially he begins his work wanting to help people, but as the story progresses he begins looking for suites that will make him stronger and faster. This is when he finds the Venom costume. Unfortunately, the costume has a mind of its own, and it slowly corrupts Peter Parkers mind and makes him into what he never wanted to be in the first place. The more power Peter Parker had, the more focused on himself he became and the less able to be the superhero he had set out to be. This is a common theme throughout history; the second a person takes their eyes off of the people they are leading and focuses instead on being faster and stronger, is the second that they fail as a leader.
