4. Downtown Indianapolis Research Paper
It should be said, though not positive, not many moments occur that make me proud to be a hosier. It
does not stem from a hatred of Indiana but, it is more of how we are viewed in the eye of the public.
Most people know us as the 500 state or the Corn State and recently we received the title Home of
Pence . Though these associations are not all bad, it leaves our state void of any substance or beauty.
That is why Downtown Indianapolis Makes me proud to be a Hoosier. The fact that there is a great
deal to witness; a vast amount to see and being able to experience it all in such close proximity
establishes downtown as a unique place to visit. Simply going around the concentric circle of the

The people of downtown Indianapolis could be represented by the food it offers, a collaboration of
different flavors. Being a minority from the South Side of Indianapolis, sometimes i forget that there
are other people similar to me in identity but, in times of loneliness downtown serves as a reminder
that the term Hoosier refers to a plethora of people. Diversity, being a trademark of progressivity,

It is visible in Fig.~ref{ededhe3c} that the missing mass distributions for two energies have a peak at
the $omega$ meson mass 0.7827~GeV/c$^2$, on top of a continuous background.
The peak positions for two energies are at the correct $omega$ mass, indicating that the energy
reconstruction is done properly.
The background of the missing mass distributions ends at different values because of the different
phase space of the two energies.
The two phase space distributions are useful for systematic studies of the background subtraction, as
discussed in Chapter~ref{ch5}.

The steep rise in both histograms, between 0.60~GeV/c$^2$ and 0.65~GeV/c$^2$, is due to the

The background of the multi pion production is subtracted to extract the $omega$ meson peak, as
discussed in the next section.
The $omega$ meson, including all $omega$ decays, is tagged via the missing mass of the proton,
deuteron and $^3$He system, calculated from the $^3$He particles using Equation~ref{mmeq}.
The missing mass distribution is called inclusive because it represents the missing mass after
$^3$He selection only which includes all decays of the $omega$ meson.
In order to count the number of $omega$ mesons in the data, the smooth background from the direct
pion production must be subtracted by fitting the spectra.
The Monte Carlo simulated phase spaces of the multi pion production is used to fit background in the
data.

8. Examples Of Myths Surrounding Albinism
Myths Surrounding Albinism
An enduring problem for a person living with albinism is how they are marganalised and stigmatised
by the society because of the myths that surround their condition. In black ethnic communities in
South Africa, the birth of a child with albinism means a number of things but none of those things are
connected to the actual person with the condition. As suggested by Blankenberg (2000), the meaning
of albinism is connected to a belief in the spirits or ancestors. One of the beliefs of the birth of a child
with albinism is that it is a fault that the mother is responsible for. It is commonly associated with the
mother s act of infidelity and the birth of a child with albinism is a symbol/representation of her
wrongdoing resulting in a curse by the spirits. According to Lund s ... Show more content on

many societies over Africa tokolosh is associated with a spirit related to witchcraft which can be
called upon to cause trouble to other people. As a result of the spiritual meaning associated with
albinism, more absurd myths came about which threatened the individual with the condition. There is
a strong belief that the body of a person with albinism can be used by traditional witch doctors to
produce magical spirits which makes a person rich or successful, there is also the belief that drinking
the blood of the person with albinism will give one extra magical powers (Thuku, 2011). In Tanzania,
body organs of people living with albinism are sold for lots of money. Killings of people with albinism
are especially common during elections times as the politicians believe the magic powers will win
them the elections. Small body portions of persons with albinism are worn around people s necks as

Two different but similar forms of writing are able to be tied down into one general but specific
category. In the book, Mistakes Were Made (but not by me), by Elliot Aronson and Carol Tavris,
Aronson and Tavris commentates on events that people go through. The book is mainly about Elliot
Aronson s and Carol Tavris opinion on how people behave and should behave when caught in tough
situations. Instead of focusing on one main character in the book, each section of the book illustrates a
different person s situation and that situation would correspond with a specific theme in the chapter.
Throughout the book, Aronson and Tavris give us a broad idea of how some psychological
thinking/processes comes into play, each psychological concept corresponds to a chapter or section in
the book, these ideas are: confirmation bias, revision of memories, self justification, pyramid of
choice, cognitive dissonance, blind spots, closed loops, reducing cognitive dissonance, blaming, self
justification (for the greater good), and (sunk costs). Another form of writing, Wrong Answer , by
Rachel Aviv, is an article focusing on the main idea of a school going through tough times and the
outcome of the actions taken by the staff. The article revolves around Parks Middle School in Atlanta.

While the canary was incredibly lively and sang beautifully, so did Mrs. Foster. John Wright was
awfully abusive towards Mrs. Wright, in the means that he required her to live her life comparable to a
caged bird. He obtained her freedom from the outside world, in return, explains why she recognized
herself in the bird. This explains for the reasoning of their house being far set back into the woods and
having no telephone service. She ventured out, only when she was allowed, and assuming that John
also did not allow her to have friends, this led to the killing of the canary.
The quilt is one major clue as to how Minnie killed her husband. The women were trying to figure out
if she was going to sew or not the quilt. Well, Mr. Wright was strangled in a strange manner, just how

theories attempting to explain the many disappearances have been offered throughout the history of

12. The Growing Concerns And Uncertainties Over Joshua s...
The growing concerns and uncertainties over Joshua s leadership spiraled in Deuteronomy, and God
ordered Moses to encourage Joshua. The result is an abundance of inspiring texts that Joshua surely
needed (Angel, 2009):
Joshua son of Nun, who attends you, he shall enter it. Imbue him with strength, for he shall allot it to
Israel (Deuteronomy 1:38).
Give Joshua his instructions, and imbue him with strength and courage, for he shall go across at the
head of this people, and he shall allot to them the land that you may only see (Deuteronomy 3:28).
Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: Be strong and resolute, for it is you
who shall go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their fathers to give them, and it is
you who shall apportion it to them (Deuteronomy 31:7).
And He charged Joshua son of Nun: Be strong and resolute: for you shall bring the Israelites into the
land that I promised them on oath, and I will be with you (Deuteronomy 31:23).
These fears are carried over into the Book of Joshua. After Moses died, God encouraged Joshua to be
strong and resolute three times in four verses (Angel, 2009):
Be strong and resolute, for you shall apportion to this people the land that I swore to their fathers to
assign to them. But you must be very strong and resolute to observe faithfully all the Teaching that My

Education is an important part of life since it gives us knowledge of the world around, paves the way
for a worthy career, and makes a man complete. Unfortunately, in some part of the world, education is
not readily accessible that made the number of people in the world do not have a chance to go to
school. For instance, in Africa, according to the USAID Center reports that as of 2005, 40% of school
age children in Africa do not attend primary school and there are still 46 million school age African
children who have never stepped into a classroom. Moreover, politics play a significant part in fanning
the flames of extremism, but widespread poverty, high unemployment rates, and a lack of equal
educational opportunities for girls are also important elements. In addition, the traditional classes are
not one size fits all for everyone. For example, some students in the class said that they feel bored and
stressed out when going to school. On the other hand, other students feel timid when discussing the
problems in face to face lecture, perhaps they feel more comfortable through emails, or discuss lessons

15. Socrates And His Views Of Justice
Joshua Ayen
PHIL100H
Dr. Gottlieb
10/8/14
Socrates and His Views of Justice In Plato s The Republic, there are several accounts of justice that
are presented throughout the dialogue, especially in Book I. One of these accounts is presented by
Socrates, in which he believes that justice is not harming anyone under any circumstances. Socrates
first presents this argument when he questions if it is just to treat anyone badly (335b). Polemarchus,
based on his account of justice in which justice is treating friends well and harming enemies (332d)
believes that it is okay to hurt people (335b). Socrates then brings up examples of what happens when
a horse, dog, and person are treated poorly (335b c). In all these cases, Socrates points out that it
worsens them. Afterwards, when taking into account that justice is a human excellence, (335c)
Socrates says that members of the human race who are treated badly must necessarily become more
unjust. Therefore, based on that reasoning, Socrates presents a fundamentally valid argument. In
theory, Socrates s claim that it is not just to treat anyone badly under any circumstances is sound
because not one person or creature deserves bad treatment, no matter the past unjust actions or
decisions that person/creature has done in the past. However, it is difficult to put it into practice
because of emotion. To defend this argument made by Socrates, I will go more in depth about two
points that were brought about him: If it really is just

17. Gender Is A Social Aspect Essay
Gender has always been around, but it has caused confusion for some about the true meaning, through
this, two perspectives have come to light. Those who believe that gender is something that you are
born with, your biological self that differentiates you from your opposite (male/female). Then there
are those who believe that gender is a social constructed aspect of ones life. What your parents and
society label you the minute you are born. Examples being a girl wears pink, a boy wears blue. These
colours are a significant symbol of assigning one a gender, for if they do not wear those colours (in
some instances) then people will not be able to distinguish them this generally shown in a newborn
babies case. Through a socially constructed perspective, certain ways of living are formed for each
persons gender, in olden day New Zealand, women, at a certain point in time were assumed to stay at
home, with the children and be good wives. Whereas men were to be in the labour force, whether it be
working class, or in the higher areas of parliament. This was all up until the mid 1800s were the first
wave feminism came into act.
There are many aspects within a persons educational life, that can affect them greatly, gender being
one of them. Depending on the job, a persons gender can hold major implications to their progression
in that area. In modern day, gender still holds a major impact on a persons life, especially if they are
females. All over the world there is still clear

compensation and benefits for their employees.
Compensation and benefits definition Compensation refers to the rewards that an employee earns from
a company in return for the labor services they provide to the enterprise (Martocchio, 2010). They
include direct financial compensation such as salaries, wages, and bonuses, indirect financial
compensation such as retirement plans, leaves, and education services, and lastly non financial
services such as advancement opportunities and career development (Martocchio, 2010). On the other
hand, benefits refer to the compensations that a company gives to its employees on an optional basis
in addition to their usual salaries. They include disability income protection (dental, vision, life, and
health), sick leave, paid and non paid vacation, and funding of education among others (Martocchio,
2010). A study on Ford Motor Company revealed that it has been providing its employees with several

22. Biomes and The Food Production
Introduction
It has been suggested that food production has changed some biomes in Australia, from natural
systems to systems completely dominated by humans.
In the following essay a number of points will be discussed to show my support of this statement. The
following paragraph will discuss the definition of a biome and examples of these in Australia will be
outlined.
Following this food production in Australia will be discussed and the effects this has had on the land.
In the next paragraph the impacts of this farming will be outlined and possible solutions discussed.
Finally, in the last paragraph my opinion on the above statement will be addressed.
What is it?
Biomes are large ecological spaces on the Earth s surface where fauna and flora have adapted to the
environment. As Australia is a huge area it has great number of different biomes. The main biomes
found here include wetlands and rivers, savanna, sea grass meadows, old growth forests and deserts.
Wetlands and rivers are found in low lying areas or alongside rivers, lakes and streams. They provide
a water and food source and are a habitat for many native and migratory birds.
Another biome is the Savanna. Savanna includes the grasslands. They can be flat with few trees or
shrubs or open woodland. This biome is used by farmers for animals to graze. The Aboriginal people
would hunt the animals found here for food.
Seagrass meadows are submerged flowering plants that form off long,

23. Child Pornography Is An Acceptable And Unavoidable Work...
People in the adult film industry are exposed to sexually transmitted infections in the workplace.
There are no other legal occupations in America where the exposure to diseases is an acceptable and
unavoidable work practice. This paper will go into depth about some of the risks that adult film
workers face, the prevalence of STIs in the adult film industry, whether or not the industry should be
regulated, and some potential policy implementations for the future health of adult film workers.
Every year up to 11,000 adult films are made in the US alone. It is a multi billion dollar industry that
employs approximately 75% women. In California, where most adult films in the US are made, there
are up to 1,500 adult film workers. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only 3% of penile vaginal sex scenes and 9.5% of penile anal intercourse in heterosexual films
showed condom usage. In homosexual films, the researchers noted that 80% of penile anal sex scenes
showed condoms. In both homosexual and heterosexual movies, there was 0% of condom usage for
penile oral contact (Grudzen, et al. 2009). These statistics suggest that condom usage among male
homosexuals is more socially acceptable because of the higher prevalence of HIV in that community.
The low usage of condoms in heterosexual films also suggests that OSHA compliance in the
Californian adult film industry needs to be more heavily regulated (Grudzen, et al., 2009). In 2004,
there was a cluster of HIV infections in the Californian adult film industry. Although adult film
workers are supposed to voluntarily get tested monthly for HIV and other STIs, there is still a window
of time where the HIV virus is not detectable by test. It was during this window that a man infected 3
female adult film workers with HIV. He had his monthly test on February 12, 2004 and on March
17th, 2004 and was negative both times, yet he tested positive on April 20th 2004. The adult film actor
experienced a flu like illness while filming in Brazil, but it resolved after he flew back. While he was
back in the US, he had unprotected sex with 13 women, and 3 of them later tested positive for HIV
after testing negative the previous month. Thankfully,

24. Symbolism in The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson Essay example
When most people play the lottery today, they think about having wealth. Generally, people who win
are happy about it whether they win one dollar or a million. The lottery in our society has grown to
support education and it is often worth several million dollars. Usually, the winner of the lottery gains
a lot of recognition for the money they win. But what would happen if there was a small town where
people held a yearly lottery in which the winner was the member of the town who was not sacrificed?
This question is answered in Shirley Jackson s short story, The Lottery. In reading this story, and
reading literary criticism about the story, there were many symbols and much symbolism in this story.

Americans were moving back to a time where they wanted life to be simple and orderly. There was
also a need to go back to traditional values and a need for conformity (Miss Cellania). While people
enjoyed seeing the Cleveland Indians win the World Series, The Philadelphia Eagles win the NFL and
while they were being entertained by beautiful women like Lauren Bacall, Ava Gardner and Rita
Hayworth (PCM Entertainment and Trivia Network) Jackson was entertaining a different audience
through her short story. It was interesting that many people were upset with Jackson about this story.
One reason was because her publisher spread a rumor that Jackson was a practicing witch (Miss
Cellania). Although Jackson dabbled in mysticism and read tarot cards, the idea that she was a witch
was a joke. The Lottery was frightening during that time and it still is today. Jackson wanted to show
what happened when people blindly followed a tradition just because it was a tradition. The Lottery
revealed an uncomfortable truth about the human psyche and, in doing so, became a classic piece of
American Literature (Miss Celinnia).
3 Symbols and Symbolism in The Lottery There were many symbols in this short story. Many
researchers state that several symbols refer to Christianity. As an example, the last name of one of the
women, Mrs. Delacroix, was a French name meaning of the

25. Public Challenges Of The Australian Public Faces
Amidst the information age, the Australian public faces perhaps the defining societal challenge of the
21st Century, the unprecedented governmental surveillance of metadata. Metadata surveillance refers
to the recent legislation passed in March of this year, which sees compulsory retention of information
by Australian telecommunication corporations, the individualised communications data of each
Australian citizen.
The recent legislation passed encompass an unprecedented surveillance of the masses, which will
result in the creation of a perpetual surveillance state based purely on broad assumptions about
potential terrorists activities. Concerns have arisen due to the proposals that encompass the
compulsory data retention of all Australians telecommunication networks, which entrenches passive
mass surveillance under the undefined concept of metadata. This mandatory retention of metadata for
up to two years allows governmental organisations unprecedented access into the online activity of all
Australians, a subversion of the legal presumption of innocence by treating all individuals as potential
suspects through pre criminal investigation tactics. As a citizen, I believe this policy embodies the
most fundamental violations of human privacy. It is without doubt this bill has obscured our rights
behind a discourse of technological subjectivity, allowing for the creation of a framework within
which rules can be adjusted and expanded through ministerial regulations, the

26. Metabolism Research Paper
The human body consists of many different systems which work together for one ultimate purpose; to
keep the body functioning properly. For years scientists have studied the components of the body, but
sometimes research only leads to more questions. One of those questions being, What if people were
born without adrenal glands? With the different mutations discovered in the human genes throughout
the recent years, this could be possible. In fact, if this occurred, the body would not be able to regulate
metabolism or maintain an internal balance between salt and water. This would also hinder a woman s
ability to become pregnant. Metabolism is a single term used to explain the complex steps the body
takes in turning the food person eats into the energy they need to function during the course of their
day. This includes big tasks such as running and jumping, but also small things we do not think about

During stressful situations the adrenal glands release cortisol to get our body out of the fight or flight
stage. If a person is constantly under loads of stress the body will be overproducing cortisol. One may
ask how this involves pregnancy and the answer is quite simple. The body was created to depend on
different parts of itself to work together to carry out one function. When it comes to conception;
progesterone, the pregnancy hormone, is vital to becoming pregnant. This hormone works to get the
uterus to the point where it can maintain a zygote, or fertilized egg. How are these related?
Progesterone is used to make cortisol. If your body is constantly trying to produce a sufficient amount
of cortisol to lower your adrenaline from too much stress then that will leave little or no progesterone
left to conceive. This is also a factor in why women have miscarriages; their bodies are not producing
enough of hormones necessary to complete a full term

29. A Courageous Mother At Gallipoli
On April 6th 2014 in the New Zealand Herald a story titled A courageous mother at Gallipoli was
published. The story is about Mary and Doug Hill, whose names were drawn out of a ballot to attend
the prestigious Anzac Day ceremony in Gallipoli to mark 100 years since the Gallipoli landing. The
article was also about Catherine O Donnell, Doug Hill s great grandmother, who was the first mother
of a New Zealand soldier to travel to Gallipoli to visit her son s grave, who had been killed during
battle. Along with the article is three secondary images and one primary image which is on the first
page of the two page article. In this essay I will use the techniques of semiotics to analyse the images
and the article. Semiotics is described as a system used for analysing how all sign systems work (O
Shaughnessy, Stadler 2012, p. 131). In regards to the article and the images of A courageous mother at
Gallipoli the semiotic analysis will look at the representation of photojournalism, the historic and
social values and our cultural identity, the denotative and connotative meanings of the image, and the
signifier and signs.
Representation and the critique of ideology apply to photojournalism because a photo does not exist in
isolation. This means that a photo always has more meaning than what is shown. A camera only
captures what is in front of the lens, not around or behind it, therefore there is always more to the story
than one image can portray. A photo also has different

30. Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces
A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between Ignatius
Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of Dunces. The
correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the beginning, Ignatius feels a
specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has put some distance between reality,
and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She
really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on how to better his life. In three separate endeavors
to calm her unwavering feedback and recommendations, he considers her advice, each time
completely failing and causing more trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a
comedic irony, she spares him from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic
medievalist who rejects the cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again,
pursues each hipster person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she
really needs to engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being
fixated on sex is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets
a progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes).

36. Negative Essay On The Truman Bubble
To elaborate on that thought, the people who were in charge of the Truman bubble symbolized the
government. I have thought about how the government hides important information from us the same
way and the hid information from Truman. I feel as though Truman had it worse because he had his
life broadcasted, had no privacy, and was secretly famous. I feel like the information the government
hides from our society is also bad but it protects the millions of people spazzing out of control. I feel
like the information the government hides from us benefits us but also it has a disadvantage. This is so
because, if the government told us every piece of information they had it would cause an uproar. Some
people do not know how handle extreme situations so they began to rebel and not remain calm. Which
is why in the Truman Show, his government protected him from the bad of the world because since
they showed him so much good in the world he would not be able to cope with that extreme emotional
trauma. For example, when people heard that North Korea was going to bomb us they were going
insane. People did not feel safe because the felt as if they were not in good hands. People were
extreme fearful and on edge everyday because of these threats. What I am trying to get across is that
this example is a disadvantage of the government hiding important information from us. Let s say this
was the other way around and the government did not tell us about these threats. Simply, we will still

37. Full Frontal Feminism
According to the lecture notes for this week, socially constructed identities are certainly grounded in
the way we are raised. There is a social system that hinders women from getting equal power as men.
Historically, men and women had very differentiated gender roles and they were strictly raised to
follow these social norms. If women crossed the border of their gender expectation, they were not
accepted in their society. A table in the lecture notes, which shows the gender characteristics,
represents men as rational, strong, powerful and active, and women as irrational, weak, fearful, and
passive. These stereotyped characteristics put women in the inferior position and disqualify them from
engaging in the same activities as men . As mentioned in Full Frontal Feminism , it is difficult to
identify the first feminist in the history, however, women have come a long way in fighting against
social injustice to achieve their rights through the feminist s waves. This week s texts introduce three
remarkable women who took the lead in feminism and resisted the social systems of subordination of
women.
