Cost Minimization Analysis Paper
Cost minimization analysis is mostly applied in the health sector and is a method used to measure and
compare the costs of different medical interventions Springer. Cost minimization analysis is the
simplest type of cost analysis. The central focus is that one medical intervention is the same as
another, at lower cost. That is the outcomes must be the same. If an institution wishes to substitute and
anesthesia drug which cost $100 less than another there are several question that need to be answered
prior to changing vendors or manufacturers. The first is quality of the medication. The Food and Drug
Administration requires the drug to have the same active ingredients but the the inactive ingredients
may not necessary be the same. The issue is the drug may be the absorbed different due to its inactive
ingredients.. Some patient may not similarly absorb the medication which may require that greater
quantities may be needed to achieve the anesthetic effect that is desired. As the purchaser of the less
costly medication, I would ask the manufacturer to supply data, in controlled studies to support that
the drug is not only therapeutic from the required active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Will it cost more to prepare the medication and administer the lower cost medication? If the more
costly medication was for example in a single use vial this may require no more than transferring the
medication form the pharmacy to the operating room, where the anesthesia staff can administer the
medication. If however the the medication is purchased in a multi use vial it may require the pharmacy
to prepare the medication and then be distributed to the operating room or other areas of the hospital.
The man hours associated with this could be significant and more costly than using a single dose vial.
So therefore the direct and indirect cost of preparation need to be

Comparing George Orr And Dr. Haber s The Lathe Of Heaven
This essay illustrates the story of The Lathe of Heaven. This story revolves around the main characters
of the story George Orr and Dr. Haber. Both are very interesting characters of the story. With the
contribution of Dr. Haber story becomes suspenseful and he is the backbone of the story. Dr. Haber is
described as a imposing and physically impressive person who likes to impose himself on other
people. There is symbolism as well used in this story. Dr. Haber is described Just like a bear, that is
large and physically impressive. He s actually scary because bears don t smile but they show their
teeth right before they are about to kill. Irrelevant, said the doctor, smiling his broad, hairy, bear s

Human brain can imagine anything and this illustrates that no problem is in this world is without
solution. We just have to find the solution. Second thing is good or evil. They are totally opposite to
each other and important too. Like in this world if we get sorrow or grief then on the other hand we
get happiness, joy excitement. Good and evil coexist with each other. But Dr. Haber doesn t want to
understand this reality and he just wants to make a perfect world but he forgets that even inside him
evil and good exist. He wants to improve the world that is his good side but on the other hand because
of his lust he is manipulating the things according to his wish to earn name and fame. But this novel

course which makes him an unlikely hero in this

The Most Notable Irish Politicians Of The 19th Century And...
John Dillon is one of the most notable Irish politicians of the later 19th century and early 20th century.
He was an avid home rule advocate, a leader in the Irish Parliamentary Party, and a devout follower of
Charles Parnell. He was jailed several times for his political activity within the home rule cause. In
May of 1881, he wrote this letter out of Kilmainham Gaol, where he was imprisoned. One of the first
notable things seen is the actual stationary, which is has black edges. Black edged stationery was
mostly used for mourning stationary during the Victorian era. It was used when a family member died.
Dillon s sister Christina had died from tuberculosis in December 1880, prompting him to use the black
edge stationary. Dillon wrote the letter in Kilmainham Gaol, located in Dublin. It was opened in 1796,
and was used to house political prisoners, as well as others. Notable prisoners held here were Dillon,
Dillon s mentor Charles Stewart Parnell, Robert Emmet, The Invincibles, along with other Home Rule
advocates and independence seekers. It was abandoned in 1924 due to aging infrastructure. Interest in
its refurbishment began in 1966. Today, the gaol serves as a museum open to the public, operated by
the Irish Office of Public Works.
The letter was written on of May 30th, 1881, and was addressed to Cowen. This can be presumed to
be Joseph Cowen, who was an English member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne from 1874
until 1886. Cowen was a member of the Liberal Party,

Literary Synthesis Essay
My choice for consideration of this essay are Edgar Allen Poe s The Purloined Letter and, Katherine
Mansfield s The Garden Party . In reading these works I enjoyed the beauty with witch the words
flowed, because if often seemed like the writer was using poetry to present their story. The similes and
metaphors brought the text to life, and I was able to picture myself alongside one of the characters.
Even the use of onomatopoeias made my sense of sound participate in the reading. The diction with
which the author chose to have his/her characters speak help me to establish a time period and setting
in my mind. All of this helped to create a complete picture of what the writers were trying to convey
within their works; however, it was the word choices that made me feel as though literature is not
relevant to contemporary society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the sentence But this ascendancy, I interposed, would depend upon the robber s knowledge of the
loser s knowledge of the robber. Who would dare (Poe 3), is filled with literary problems for a
contemporary society. I had to look up the words interposed and ascendancy in the dictionary.
According to dictionary.com, ascendancy means govern or to be the controlling influence; dominance.
The word interposed means to put a barriers or obstacle between or in the way of something or
someone. Although the use of these types of words were in use during this time period, they are
outdated and not in use now. Having to look up the words made the reading less enjoyable.
Additionally, in contemporary writing the use of a question mark is expected. In this sentence, Poe
elected not to use this punctuation. Today s reader has come to expect a question make at the end of a
written question. Lastly, the word knowledge is used twice in one sentence. This repetition made the
sentence appear wordy and not

College Recruiting Case Study
Claim 3
The last important topic that needs to be addressed in college recruiting is when the players commit to
the coach rather than the school. A lot of the high school athletes are just committing to the head coach
rather than the university. Whenever a coach leaves another university for a different university,
usually the high school athlete will follow the coach. For example, when P.J. Fleck announced he was
leaving Western Michigan to be Minnesota s football coach, many of his recruits followed him. Kyle
Sassack an offensive tackle from Pontiac who had committed to Western Michigan, told
Gopherillustrated that after speaking with Fleck, he was sold to come play at Minnesota instead (
Windsor, 2017). Noah Hickcox, a defensive lineman also had been committed to Western Michigan
for while, but when P.J. Fleck left, Hickcox decided to follow him. Over 10 players who had verbally
committed to Western Michigan ended up switching to Minnesota.
Another example of recruits following a certain coach is when Tom Herman took the job at ... Show

I understand I was Signing with Duke, but I felt that I was really signing with Mike Krzyzewski (
Espn.com). Usually the National Letter of Intent is presented by the coach rather than a school
administrator. The athletes view the institution through the eyes of the coach and the institution is
heavily influenced by who the coach is. The National Letter of Intent spells this key point out in bold
print, so there is no mistaking the stance of the NCCA or the College Commissioners Association: The
student athlete is binding himself to the school, not the coach. Any player who signs the National letter
of Intent must attend the school with which they signed. If a recruit breaks his National Letter of
Intent and transfers without a waiver, he or she must sit out a year because of the transfer

Summary Of Breashear s Success At The IMAX Team
The leader is one who mobilizes others toward a goal shared by leaders and followers. ... Leaders,
followers and goals make up the three equally necessary supports for leadership. Gary Wills, Certain
Trumpets: The Call of Leaders As leaders of the Adventure Consultant and Mountain Madness
expeditions to Mt. Everest, Rob Hall and Scott Fischer made a number of poor decisions that led to
the tragedy in 1996. However, the ignorance to the turnaround time, during the ascent to the peak, had
sealed the unfortunate fates of the climbers that day. The turnaround time of 2 p.m., (worst case
scenario) was when the climbers should start their descent from the peak. The climbers ignored this
time due to numerous reasons. First, even after so many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Numerous differences explain the success of the IMAX team. First, Breashears and his team were
very focused on their shared goal of making an IMAX movie. This shared goal enforced stronger
collaboration between the team. In comparison, Hall and Fischer s expeditions originated from
individualistic goals. The leaders wanted to grow the reputation of the company, and each client
wanted to reach the summit. Second, Breashears carefully picked 10 paid experts in his team to
accomplish the goal. He mentions There wasn t a prima donna in the bunch. None of us harboured any
illusions about who the real diva was. Everest would take centre stage. Hall and Fischer had novice
climbers who had little to no experience climbing such high altitudes. Third, and more importantly,
Breashears was much better prepared for the expedition than Hall or Fischer. He is known to have
looked into numerous possible scenarios that the IMAX expedition might run into. Moreover, he was
prepared for two attempts to the summit by stashing a carefully calculated number of extra bottles of
oxygen. Whereas expeditions led by Hall and Fischer carried sufficient oxygen only for one trip to the

The Economy Of The Oil Industry
Over the last years, the oil industry practiced its deepest recession since 1990s. That being said, the
recovery for this industry finally starts getting better. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries approved to change the production last year, 2016. This arrangement has been holding over
to this year, with oil prices increasing for the past several months. But in recent weeks, United States
records have been found greater oil prices have been faded. Experts think it will be years before oil
returns $100 a barrel, a price that was regular till late 2014. But after the oil price recovered from
below $30 in early 2016 to over $50 by the end of the year, there was increasing certainty in the
industry that crude oil could rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why prices began to decrease. In December 2014 the price went down to $55.48 per barrel. At
that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own
production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia
decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices
would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got
really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept
dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker
than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than
the Saudis thought. As firms cut costs and increased productivity in order to keep the oil flowing . (Oil
Prices: What to Make of the Volatility.) In the meantime, major developing economies like China,
Russia, and Brazil put a discouragement on the oil industry. An unusually mild winter helped
overpower demand for heating oil, and also a stronger dollar means that some countries now have to
pay more for crude imports. Car owners in places like the United States, Europe, and Japan are paying
less for gasoline, which means they have more money to spend on other things than gas. This is why
oil businesses here in the United

The Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping Research Paper
According to The lindbergh baby kidnapping by James Perloff, Charles Lindbergh, the first American
to complete the first nonstop transatlantic trip from New York to France in 1927, married Anne
Morrow and had their first child, a little boy, in 1930. For most people their baby being kidnapped and
killed is their worst nightmare, and they would never wish it upon anyone, but it happened to Charles
and Anne Lindbergh. After searching many sources, I have come to a conclusion as to what happened
the night of March 1, 1932, at the Lindbergh s Hopewell residence. All of the theories seem possible

The Importance Of Sin In The Inferno By Dante Alighieri
For centuries, sin has been a struggle in each individual s daily life. From the beginning of time, Satan
has lured people to commit sins straying them away from God. As sins can become addictive, people
crave the feeling of the satisfaction from committing wrong doings. Every day humans consciously
commit sins like lust, gluttony, violence, greed, and hypocrisy. Hypocrites are people that do not
practice the type of lifestyle they tell others to practice. The sin that humans struggle with the most in
The Inferno by Dante Alighieri is hypocrisy because human beings hold other people to higher
standards, are ashamed of their ways, and seek to impress others. Human beings are prone to hold
loved ones to higher standards, leading to the sin of hypocrisy. Though hypocrisy is wrong, in many
situations, hypocrites believes that they are lying to others in order to better improve another person s
life. Many adults are hypocrites towards their children because they want better for them. For
example, if a mother of a teenage son is addicted to smoking cigarettes, the mother would commit
hypocrisy if she told the son not to smoke them. Though morally it is right for the mother to look out
for her son and make sure he is safe, the practice of the mother telling her son to not smoke like she
does would still be considered a sin according to Dante in The Inferno. Professional researchers have
determined that power makes people stricter in moral judgment of others while being less strict of
their own behavior ( If Power Corrupts Are the Powerful Absolutely Hypocritical ). It is difficult for
people to lead the same kind of life they want others to lead. People tend to want to give good advice
to strengthen loved ones rather than be truthful or not say anything at all. Humans psychologically
have a hard time accepting their bad habits, and therefore choose to ignore them, not being truthful
with themselves, God, and those surrounding them. Hypocrisy is a common sin among people because
people are ashamed of their poor ways in life. It is known that humans become anxious about their
reputation and social status in public. For reputations determine people s friends, jobs, and quality of
life. Peoples lives tend to

Constantine And Empress Helen Their Impact On Christianity
Topic: Constantine and Empress Helena: Their Impact on Christianity
Who was Constantine?:
Constantine was believed to be born on February 22, either in 272 or 273 AD. The exact date and year
is not definite. He was the son of Marcus Flavius Valerius Constantius Herculius Augustus (mainly
known as Constantius Chlorus) and Flavia Iulia Helena Augusta (mainly known as Saint Helena). His
father was an officer of the army, and his mother was an inn keeper s daughter. His father later
divorced his mother Helena, and married Flavia Maximiania Theodora; his commanding officer s
daughter. Constantius Chlorus was ranked to Caesar, the deputy emperor in the west in 293.

Constantine also saw this as a sign from God. Constantine continually said that his success was from
his conversion to Christianity and the support of God. His devotion to Christianity was closely
associated with this rise to power.
What did he do for the Christian Religion?:
Constantine was credited for converting the Roman Empire to Christianity. Along with the Eastern
Roman Emperor Gaius Valerius Licinianus Licinius Augustus (better known as Licinius I) signed the
Edict of Milan, which ensured religious tolerance for Christians. The signing of the Edict of Milan
gave freedom of worship to all, and brought an end to the Age of Martyrs and ended the persecution of
Christianity. Constantine helped convene and took part in the first meetings of Christian Churches,
known as the Council of Nicea. The council of Nicea established equality of the Father and Son. He
initiated the evolution of the empire into a Christian state. He provided the impulse for a distinctively
Christian culture and prepared the way for the growing of Byzantine and Western medieval culture.
After his victory the battle of Tiber River s Mulvian Bridge, Constantine was considered the dominant
figure in the empire. In this position Constantine ordered Maximinus II Dais to cease his subjugation
of the Christians.
Sometimes it was debated whether he was the first Christian emperor at all. The religion he did have
was a mix blend of Paganism and Christianity. Constantine s

Increasing Population In Orange County
A census is an official count or survey of a population, typically recording various details of
individuals. The census is taken every couple years in order to get specific details about our
population. It helps to take into account the amount of people a certain town, city, or state may have as
well as their race, gender, and age percentage. The census is also used to calculate the amount of
people who live below the poverty line, as well as the wealthy. The data collected by the census not
only determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives, but also is
used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. These funds go towards schools,

The 1982 Tylenol Scandal Crisis
Tylenol, an over the counter prescription product from Johnson Johnson, was one of the top brands in
the analgesic market. Within the company, it was also a large income earner that commanded nearly
15% of the company s total profits. That being the case, the 1982 crisis was not only a big blow to the
brand, but also to the company as a whole. The crisis jeopardized the company s existence; putting at
risk a multi million investment which the investors had a lot of faith in. Irrespective of whether the
crisis was due to malicious acts from ill motivated criminals or not, the company had to act swiftly to
counter the legal issues which were ensuing and mitigate huge impending losses. It was really a trying
moment for the top management of Johnson Johnson and more so to the CEO, James Burke, who
faced the toughest test of his managerial career during this time. Though the crisis was amicably
solved, there were some legal issues that were imminent and some valuable lessons learnt from the
episode.
Legal Issues Surrounding 1982 Tylenol Scandal

profits are not abnormally earned at the expense of the innocent clients. It is therefore the mandate of
the territorial authorities to put in place measures that introduce checks and balances in all trades. The
respective companies or business must also follow the same suit lest they find themselves in the

Chaucer s The General Prologue Essay
Chaucer s The General Prologue Chaucer the pilgrim starts out The General Prologue with detailed
descriptions of each pilgrim as he views them. When Chaucer the pilgrim arrives at the Pardoner, he
becomes very focused on his physical appearance and what is seems to be missing. There is something
odd about this Pardoner and Chaucer the pilgrim can t seem to grasp just what that is. He describes
that the Pardoner is all on fire to do is job, just arriving from Rome (Bretful of pardon, come from
Rome al hoot). However, his eagerness to Pardon those for God does not help his physical appearance
in any respect. Chaucer the pilgrim describes his voice as that of a high pitched goat and points out
that he has no facial hair and will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Putting together his femininely smooth, boyish appearance with the neutered animal pushes the
emphasis on the Pardoner s ambiguous sexuality. This description of the Pardoner through Chaucer
the pilgrim s eyes reaffirms the other pilgrims idea of him. His character is that of a gentle yet
pompous boy, who spends much time on his own appearance, especially his hair. The Pardoner seems
to attempt to market himself as a young bachelor in front of his fellow travelers but the attempt fails
miserably. When he interrupts the Wife of Bath s prologue to say, I m getting married soon, tell me
what to do to find a good wife, he further alienates himself from the group instead of redeeming
himself as a funny person. His interruption comes off more as a need for others to see him as desirable
by a female. Another odd quality of his character is his confession of his own sinfulness. The Pardoner
commits this grievous rhetorical fault in trying to gain their pride. The other characters don t need to
announce, These are my sins, because we find out through their story what that character is like.
However, the Pardoner has to announce his sins in hope of finding a connection with the other
pilgrims, for his story does not explain his character at all. In fact, it revolts his fellow travelers
because the

Expectations of First-Line-Supervisor in Law Enforcement...
Expectations of a First Line Supervisor in a Law Enforcement Agency

Supervision in the Criminal Justice Field
Professor Chavez
May 15, 2013
Abstract
The first line supervisor in law enforcement is commonly referred to as a Sergeant. These positions
are of great importance to a law enforcement agency. There are many pros and cons to becoming a
first line supervisor. These positions are tasked with the expectation of maintaining a level of balance
within the patrol ranks, as well as remaining fair and impartial among those ranks. There are also
many expectations of subordinates. In order for both parties to meet these expectations requires a
close working relationship.
The first line supervisor in a law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A supervisor must remain approachable from their subordinates. With this approachability and
accessibility the supervisor will be successful in building a better working relationship. The difficulty
with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal relationship with their
subordinates and a professional relationship. With a close working relationship a supervisor should be
able to confront the subordinate and be able to resolve the issue. The resolution may range from
simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible disciplinary action.
Approximately 25 percent of all law enforcement disciplinary action is due to drug use. (More amp;
Miller, 2007) Supervisors must remain vigilant on possible drug use. Many supervisors are unwilling
to discipline their subordinates, which could ultimately lead to their downfall. When disciplinary
action is necessary it is the responsibility of the supervisor to remain fair and impartial. When
initiating disciplinary action the supervisor must put aside any personal feelings toward the
subordinate, and act solely on a professional level. They must act in the best interest of the subordinate
and the department as a whole. It is important that when the disciplinary action is necessary it is done
in a constructive manner. When the disciplinary action is constructive it allows the subordinate to

The Origination Of Hip Hop
The Origination of Hip Hop
Laresia Parks
English III, Period 05
2 December 2015
Hip hop finds its ethnic origins in Jamaican music and DJs in the seventies who used two turntables to
create longer drum breaks in records for dance parties giving rise to break dancing and break dancers
now known as b boys and b girls (A Closer Look At a New Hip Hop Movement). DJs and MCs
popularized the technique of speaking over beats and the culture expanded to include street dance and
graffiti art. Embraced by working class urban and young African Americans, the music stems from
African American forms of music including jazz, soul, gospel, and reggae.

South Bronx during the 1970s and used his charisma to rise to the rank of warlord in a local gang
called Black Spades. After traveling to Africa, he decided to borrow a motto from an earlier decade:
wage love, not war. He decided to use his influence to turn the Black Spades into a peaceful
organization called the Zulu Nation. Bambaataa had this vision of hip hop as a force for social change,
says Chang. He had the history and street credibility to make this narrative acceptable to even the
hardest of hard heads... He was the guy who articulated that hip hop could be a cultural movement. In
1977, Bambaataa started throwing

Comparison Of The Movie The Outsiders Directed By Francis...
The movie The Outsiders directed by Francis Ford Coppola and made in 1983 was an excellent
adaptation of the book. The outsiders movie is about young teanagers in gangs trying to show who is
the better gang and who is the strongest and the beast. The actors in the movie were
ponyboy, darry, dally, soda and johnny are the main characters in this movie NARRATIVE So they
think that the only way to settle who is the best gang is to have a huge war. They think that the city is
way too small to have more than one gang and the greasers wanted to be the one gang. So they

Social Instructivism And Second Language Acquisition
Social constructivism emerged as the dominant theory of learning in the 20th century as it not only
accounts for the cognitive process in constructing knowledge but also the cultural, social, and
collaborative nature of such process.
For more background information on social constructivism, see http://gsi.berkeley.edu/gsi guide
contents/learning theory research/social constructivism/ The impact of the social constructivist theory
was felt across the educational community, including the field of foreign language teaching. The
theories of second language acquisition (SLA) have evolved to reflect the research of learning
processes in general.
Move the paragraph to the beginning???? The reason behind my interest in the latest SLA hypotheses
is my professional and educational background. I have studied linguistics and second language
acquisition and for the past 10 years I ve been teaching English as a second language, English for
academic purposes as well as the Russian language. I have also worked as a language teacher educator
and in curriculum developer. Not only as a language teacher, but as foreign language learner myself, I
have been fascinated by the processes of learning and acquiring language. I try to continuously reflect
on effective ways to teach language and explore different teaching approaches. I am hoping that
revisiting educational theories and exploring the ways these theories are reflected in teaching practices
will better inform my work as a teacher and curriculum developer.
The understanding of second language acquisition has progressed from behaviorist (name theories
here) to constructivist Universal Grammar (Chomsky, year?), language instinct (Pinker, 1995), Input
Hypothesis (Krashen, 1985), Attention Processing model (McLaughlin, 1990, 1987), Explicit and
Implicit models (Ellis, 1994, 1997; Bialystok 1982, 1978, 1990) and, finally, to social constructivist
Interaction hypothesis (Long, 1981) later expanded on by Theresa Pica (year). (and complemented by
the comprehensible output hypothesis (Swain, 1995), Authenticity/Task based instruction (Selinger)
In order to better understand social constructivist theories in SLA, it is important to briefly mention
the ideas that influenced

Please excuse my late reply. I have been really busy with real life. I will give you the basics of what I
am looking for and we can go from there. Keep in mind that anything here is up for discussion, I want
the writer to have just as much input as me. If there is something you do not like or there is something

she is of royal blood. Her father was the pack alpha and he raised her to one day take on the same

they align with a powerful coven that too wants the wolf pack out of Dallas. (The witches and
vampires want them gone because the pack runs the city; not much goes on without the wolves

Summary Of The C Word In The Hallways By Anna Quidlen
In her composition, The C Word in the Hallways , Anna Quidlen implores parents, educators, and
politicians to not perceive mental health issues and mental healthcare as preposterously inessential to
the vitality of the modern social landscape, but to actively enhance the attention given to mental health
issues. Her use of tone, diction, allusion, and a myriad of other rhetorical devices adds sustenance to
her vilification of the attitudes surrounding mental health and her endeavor to illuminate this pertinent
issue. Quidlen s use of tone is a mixture of lividness and concern. In the second paragraph of her
exposition, she demonstrates her anger towards narrow minded adults when she refers to their mindset
as useless and how their manner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In paragraph three, Quidlen refers to a 1956 movie called The Bad Seed in which a young girl plays a
homicidal maniac. She chooses to manipulate this example for a specific purpose, to demonstrate how
carelessly and even offensively mental health has been portrayed in popular social mediums such as
film throughout the decades. She highlights that society has created this caricature of mental illness to
be something that alienates and essentially makes one inhuman. This perverted perspective of mental
health has been ingrained in the social fabric of America and many other nations, propagated by the
burgeoning influence of mass media. Furthermore, in paragraph five of her composition, Quidlen
equates the time it took for a physiatrist to evaluate Sam Manzie to be ... less time than it takes to eat a
Happy Meal... This statement is a vicious assault by Quidlen on the mental health care system.
Through this, she establishes in a mocking manner that the time provisioned to evaluate a mentally
troubled individual does not even warrant the amount of time given to eat a Happy Meal from
McDonald s. Collectively, Quidlen includes these references to reinforce her position that societal
attitudes concerning mental health have been shaped by the media and that the attention given to such
issues as been unequivocally

Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card Essay
Ender s Game, by Orson Scott Card, is an exceptional novel created by an extremely smart, intuitive,
and talented individual. This novel deals with several of societies issues and is almost satire,
comparable to Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn. Some topics that are prominent in Ender s Game are
compassion, humanity, and the relationship between adults and children. These three elements define
the main character, Ender, and influence the way he makes decisions and eventually changes the
world. The setting of this particular novel is in several places (including Greensboro, N.C., Battle

Due to Mazer Rackham s genius, the Formic Fleet was defeated. In preparation for the Formic s third
invasion, the International Fleet constructed Battle School and Command school to train the smartest
children in the world with the best tactical minds with rigorous training. Due to the urgency that was
taken to defeat the Formics, once and for all, the International Fleet, a new governing body that was
like United Nations on steroids, orders that children would be raised to be the smartest the world had
ever seen. Ender was one of those children. He was chosen at the age of 6 to go to Battle School, an
orbiting school that taught the children how to be good military tacticians in the heat of battle. This
was accomplished in the battle room, a large cube room with no gravity. Cadets are given a gun that,
when shot at another cadet wearing a flash suit, causes the particular body part that was shot to freeze
and become immobile. If a cadet was hit in the stomach, their entire body would become immobile.
When Ender first arrived to Battle School, he was in a group known as the launchies, because they had
just arrived to the school. After about a year, these launchies progressed into an Army, or a group of 40
soldiers aged anywhere from 8 12. Because Ender was so smart, he was progressed into an army after

Why Did England Grow During The Industrial Revolution
By late 1700s and early 1800s, United Kingdom was on the brink of Industrial Revolution. Industrial
evolution was basically a period of time where a country had mass productions and new inventions in
technology. Setting aside the time when it started, why did the Industrial Revolution start in Great
Britain? What advantages did England have to initiate the Industrial Revolution? The Industrial
Revolution initiated in United Kingdom because of its surfeit amounts of natural resources, stable
government and economy and developments in new machinery. Britain was the first country to
industrialize as a result of its abundance in natural resources. Britain got its surfeit amount of
resources from its colonies. Around early 1800s, Britain was the sovereign nation in the world,
conquering relatively half of the world. This gave Britain an enormous economic advantage. The

Bill Cosby Debate
This article addresses a controversial issue that has remained secret for years. Twenty nine courageous
women have come together to tell their stories about how Bill Cosby sexually abused them. They
claim that they were drugged and raped by him, sometimes for weeks and months. Some of them were
even underage at the time it happened and they were afraid at that time to come public with this issue.
Almost all the women say that they know even more victims, but they are afraid to step into the public
eye. However, Cosby denies any sexual harassment and hasn t faced any punishment as there is no
tangible proof that those statements are true. In my opinion Bill Cosby should be charged or even
imprisoned for these unlawful acts, because why would

When first thinking about my greatest achievement throughout high school I got stuck. I sat long and
hard thinking about what moment throughout my entire high school career was I most proud at being
myself. The moment that I will forever be the most proud of myself comes from my junior year track

that race I told myself in my mind I would never let myself lose a close race to him ever again. Seeing
him lined up right next to me with a #1 on his shoulder and my shoulder only having a #5 on it made
me mad. The gun goes off and the race begins. After the first 400m of the race in I was in 3rd place
right next to Will. This position felt bitter sweet and I knew I had to come through this time around. It

Modern Day Mass Shooter
Seeing stories about mass shootings on the news is an everyday occurrence. Mass shootings occur
when people intentionally and indiscriminately shoot multiple people at one venue or at one time. In
the United States, there have been 62 mass shootings in the last thirty years. There have been 24 in the
last seven years, alone. If he lived in the twenty first century the monster in Frankenstein, by Mary

by humans, wanting revenge, and having psychological problems.
To some, being bullied is not a big deal; but to others (such as the monster and many mass shooters)
being bullied affects their outlook on the world. To bully, according to Miriam Webster Dictionary, is
to frighten, hurt, or threaten (a smaller or weaker person): to act like a bully toward (someone): to

many mass shooters have experienced high levels of bullying, which possibly led to the massacres. In
particular, a well known duo of boys became mass shooters after being continuously bullied by their
classmates. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed twelve people and injured 24 at Columbine High
School. According to the New York Times, in an article comparing the different factors in mass

The Causes And Consequences Of Cosmopolitanism By Martha...
The first definition or the basic concept of cosmopolitanism was given by the Greek philosopher
Diogenes. His reply to the question of where did he come from was that he is the citizen of the world.
The concept of the entire world as a single community and the shared existence of all its inhabitants
were established around 300 B.C.. This is where all other forms and the varied definitions of
cosmopolitanism take their source of inspiration from. Cosmopolitanism is a state of mutual existence
and citizenship in a single community regardless of the political allegiance. This community can be

On the grounds of human rights too nationalism had almost always censored certain forms of

Cosmopolitanism is also wounded when you wholly reject the idea of nation with respect to its culture

culturally rich can it have a healthy transnational interaction of cultures. The appreciation of the

selfies always receive a lot of likes. I m on social media every day and I keep up with the latest trends.
It s only right that I join the beauty industry.
Not only am I surrounded by beauticians but a few of them are successful salon owners. I too hope to
own a nail studio. I didn t just choose to be a part of this industry but I set goals for myself once I
receive my license. Before I become a salon owner I have to prepare myself for the responsibility that
comes with it. One of my friends offered me a position at her salon after I obtain my certificate. This
is the perfect opportunity because I ll be able to see firsthand the responsibilities of being an owner,
and I will still get the experience of paying booth rent. I notice that the nail salons in my area rarely do
promotions. At my friend s salon not only do the beauticians have promotions, but they offer packages
for the clients. We talked about adding manicures to the packages which could build my clientele. I d

Ban The Use Of Guns By Civilians
Pierce Hodges Mrs. Desanto Research paper Feb 9, 2015 A Call to Ban the use of Guns by Civilians
Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired,
signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are
not clothed. (citation) Guns are a major source of crisis in our nation today, and as President
Eisenhower speaks to in this quote, firearms take something away from society. We are supposed to be
a peaceful and civilized nation, but because of guns, we are becoming a violent nation and a disaster.
Many think that those who are negatively affected by guns are only inner city teens and young adults.
This was proven to be untrue by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In that same situation, with no gun around, there is a much less chance of someone being severely
injured or killed. Many people suggest securing schools more by doing things like locking all doors,
bullet proof vestibules, mandatory ID and background checks, and even microchips monitoring people
s whereabouts in the school. All of these things may help, but the problem is much bigger than the
schools. The problem is in the access to guns that our laws allow. The use of guns by civilians should
be banned because, the statistics show that the more guns, the more chance for violence. The military
and law enforcement should be the only ones legally allowed to carry guns. When our forefathers
drafted the Bill of Rights with the Second Amendment protecting the individual right to possess
firearms, the society and the motive was different. it was a limited right and they left some authority
over it to the government. The government is able to limit this, so seeing how guns are negatively
affecting our society, they should use their power. There is no reason why so many people, living in
what is supposed to be a peaceful society, possess guns. About 16,272 murders were committed in the
United States during 2014. Of these, about 10,886, or 67%, were committed with firearms. A
nationwide survey of 4,977 households found that over the previous five years, at least 0.5% of
households had members who had used a gun for defense during a

The Theme Of Masculinity In The Short Happy Life Of Ernest...
How can Hemingway make the themes in the books based on his experiences and thoughts?
Hemingway writes the books based on his experiences and thoughts like masculinity from a character
to showing his self confidence, death from alcohol which is showing the self injury, fatalistic heroism
like the character, Schatz from the book, A Day s Wait and nature from mountain and safari (Africa) in
The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber or other books.
Hemingway puts the meaningful themes and symbols through his experience and thoughts.
There are major important themes in Hemingway s books. First, men and masculinity is a main theme
that comes from Hemingway s experiences. Hemingway s heroes are often outdoorsmen or ... Show

In this research paper, I am going to show the various aspects of the theme of death in the short story.
Before the short story begins, Hemingway simply tells the story of a leopard s skeleton that is said to
lie at a high altitude on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is up to the reader to decide how to relate
this tale to the rest of the short story, but it is obvious at this point that death will play an important
role in the story. The main storyline develops around the deadly infection of Harry s leg after suffering
from a thorn scratch. He talks about death in the very first sentence of the short story, saying The
marvelous thing is that it s painless, that s how you know when it starts (Hemingway 4). As the story
develops, Harry frequently mentions his wish to die or thee way he feels that death is very close now:
You can shoot me. You re a good shot now (Hemingway 4). and I don t want to move, there is no
sense in moving now except to make it easier for you (Hemingway 8) and Can t you let a man die as
comfortably as he can without calling him names? (Hemingway 8) and Don t be silly. I m dying now
(Hemingway 8). It sounds as if Harry is giving up, not necessarily because he is a coward, even
though his wife calls him that, but more because he feels that it is more comfortable for him at this
point to lay down and die instead of waiting for a truck or airplane that will probably never arrive: I

Causes Of Failure Of Bridge Roof Vibration
CAUSES OF FAILURE OF BRIDGE
Deck Vibration Since the well known bridge, Tacoma Narrows Bridge was destroyed in 1940 the
designers and owners started to concern more about the stability of bridge deck. For short and long
term of monitoring the deck, the instruments of geophysical are increase used which are;
1. accelerometers and tilt meter
2. strain gages
Figure1: Tacoma Narrows Bridge with severe vibration
Figure 2: Tacoma Narrows Bridge after collapse due to wind fluttering
These are several problems that had been summarized;
1. The stability of aerodynamic of bridge deck when subject to high wind.
2. Some effect on stability of bridge decks for long term, impact by fatigue that caused by cyclic
stresses which are including increased loading from the traffic, temperature changes and trucks that
have heavy load.
3. The bridge decks stability during earthquakes.
All the geophysical techniques are applied to overcome problems above. Those are principally specific
to the vibration monitoring and some environmental monitoring which is vibration monitoring
including strains, displacements, rotation and acceleration, while environmental monitoring including
wind and temperature. All of these are affected
Below are two major solutions to overcome fluttering problems of cable bridges;
1. Modification of the deck
To create more stiff deck, the shape and configuration of the bridge deck must be modified (with
respect to the length of the span).

Delivery Drones Research Papers
Delivery Drones Imagine that you are eating breakfast and accidently spill coffee on your tie. You
have an important meeting in less than one hour and you do not have time to go to the store to buy a
new one. You pull out your phone and tap on the screen a few times; you have just ordered a tie
online. Thirty minutes later, you walk outside and take a package from underneath a drone. Inside the
package is the tie you had ordered. You quickly put on the tie and make it to the meeting on time.
Many people experience problems where a certain item is needed quickly, but they do not have the
time to go and buy it at a store. This is where delivery drones can play a major role. Although believed
to be dangerous and difficult to regulate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One common argument against delivery drones is that they can invade privacy. The autonomy of
drones requires cameras, which many people think can be used to spy on people (Elzweig 173).
However, major companies that would utilize drones already have many peoples personal information
and have not done anything bad with them. Therefore, the pictures or videos from the cameras on
drones would most likely not be used to harm people.
Another argument that is made against delivery drones is that there is too much regulation from the
government (Stark 26). Right now, the FAA, or Federal Aviation Administration, has a rule that
autonomous drones cannot fly over highly populated areas (Peck 40). Another rule is that the drones
cannot fly in a large range (Peck 40). While rules like this are in place right now, the rules will almost
definitely change to fit with evolving technology. Therefore, regulations that are in place today will
probably not be in place in the

September 11 And Skyscrapers
Why do people want to build in the sky? Skyscrapers are the most iconic symbol of the city and are
amazing landscapes created by humans who reach the clouds and ignore gravity. It implements human
aspirations that we want to build a much higher level of buildings. There is no doubt that constructing
tall buildings is not something new. The most important things while raising buildings higher are its
structural design and life safety for people living or working inside the buildings. Today, as the
building is touching to the sky, occupants of buildings are worried more and more about how safe the
building is. The major concerns regarding tall building are unplanned fire and terrorist attack. The
43rd president George W. Bush quoted in results to 9/11, Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of
our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but
they cannot dent the steel of American resolve . As prospective engineers look to the future, we have
the opportunity to learn the very lesson by understanding the collapse of the WTC Towers. In the
years 9/11, the time after has arisen to learn and improve the design of future tall buildings against fire
induced collapse. The building we build inspires us and reflects on who we are. The collapse of the
World Trade Center buildings on September 11, 2001, was the Black Day in American History. The
terrorist attack on the world trade center on September 11, 2001, was

Discuss the Impact of the Automobile’s Rise on Urban Form...
Discuss the impact of the automobile s rise on urban form during the twentieth century and critically
evaluate planning measures used to limit the negative social and environmental aspects Since the rise
of the automobile, there have been many dramatic changes to urban form in attempts to accommodate
this new mode of transport. Focusing on America and Britain, this discussion considers influences on
all scales ranging from reclassification of physical roads to the decentralization of urban cores. The
rising social and environmental concerns caused by the increase in vehicle usage include pedestrian
safety, residential livability, and environmental deterioration. I have decided to explore this question

Lippincott suggested the widening of existing streets and new diagonal arteries dedicated only to
traffic , these plans alone would cut across the existing urban fabric dramatically (see figure 1).
Eventually, the study led to formations of Major Street Traffic Plans, written by Olmsted,
Bartholomew and Cheney from 1929. When implemented, the plans altered urban form in American
cities with new openings, extensions and street patterns to reduce barriers to traffic (Roth, 2007).
Figure 1. Proposed Plans for Downtown, Los Angeles
(Traffic Commission of City and County of Los Angeles, 1924)
To an extent, the Major Street Plans and motorways were planning measures to limit social and
environmental externalities. Separating pedestrian, streetcar, and auto traffic enhanced the form of
urban areas and provided an efficient, coordinated street system, for example improved traffic
crossings ensured maximum pedestrian safety (Brown, 2006). With the separation of mobility and
access, crossings and passageways secured pedestrian safety in high traffic areas. However, with cities
serving as places of innovation and creative hubs of the economy , it is assumed that the mass
population would favour proximity to central business districts (Jacobs, 1961). Considering a lower
population residing in outskirt regions and motorway infrastructures encircling cities, consequently,
the separation of pedestrian and

Opium Trade Dbq Essay
During the 19th century, China transformed from a prosperous economic center to a weakened country
in a system controlled by Great Britain, largely due to the opium trade. Prior to Europe s industrial
revolution in 1800, China had little need for products from other countries, and participated sparingly
in world trade, while Europe borrowed China s ideas and inventions to gain a financial foothold. But
in the 19th century Britain introduced opium into the Chinese market, setting off a chain of events that
lead to the Opium Wars, which along with the opium trade sapped China s economic strength.
Nevertheless, she persisted, and in 1907 China passed a law that blocked the opium trade once and for
all and took out Britain s system of power within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, the Treaty of Nanjing, which was signed by China and Britain after the first Opium War
in 1842, gave more rights to British traders within China: The Emperor of China agrees to... permit
[British traders] to carry on their mercantile transactions with whatever persons they please, . British
traders now had the ability to trade directly with the public, a privilege that China had long denied
foreign countries. These new rights made it easier for British merchants to trade opium, and increased
its prevalence in the population. Not only that, British traders used their new rights to gain a strong
foothold in the Chinese economy. The Treaty of Nanjing ensured that Britain would have a powerful
influence within China and could do whatever they wanted. But in 1906, Britain ended the opium
trade when China proposed a 10 year plan to completely eradicate opium. The Chinese government
had kept the issue alive since 1900 by negotiating smaller treaties to block opium trading, but it wasn t
until 1905 that British lawmakers seriously considered China s demands for an end to the trade. By
1900 Britain was making less and less money from the opium trade, with opium imports into China
having peaked in the late 19th century. The overwhelming power of the opium trade had created an
imbalance in

Dome Of The Rock Essay
Both monuments are structurally sound as both monument holds valuable meanings. The massive size
of both structures requires a lot of support, and The Dome of The Rocks and The Cathedral of Notre
Dame utilizes such constructional technologies to just do that. Dome of the Rock utilizes four piers
and twelve columns to support the rounded drum that transitions into the two layered dome, which is
more than 20 meters in diameter (Elizabeth Macaulay Lewis, n.d., para. 6). This part of the structure is
important to be stable as under the dome lies a center stone of the monument. Also, the octagonal wall
contains 24 piers and columns to hold up the entire structure as well ( Dome of the Rock, 2017, para.

However, they do hold their key differences in their structures in that The Cathedral of Notre Dame
requires extra supports not just inside the structure, but outside as well. The Cathedral of Notre Dame
has such thing called flying buttress, it is an archway like structure that holds on to most of the
structure of the cathedral ( Notre Dame de Paris, 2017, para. 3). Dome of The Rock on the other hand,
does not require any external support due to the shape of the structure. Cathedral of Notre Dame is in
a shape of a basilica (cross like shape), but Dome of the Rock s main structure is octagonally shaped,
which is much more stable shape compare to the thin basilica shape of the cathedral ( Dome of the
Rock, 2017, para. 2). As mentioned earlier, both monuments hold religious items inside their
respectable building. To show off their assets, both structures have ambulatories that lead the audience
toward the objects. Around the Rock, architectures constructed ambulatories around the rock for the
audience to look while not disturbing the object (Elizabeth Macaulay Lewis, n.d.,

Intellect Argument
The intellect argument also comes into play when critics talk about Eve and her dreams, particularly
the difference in which Adam and Eve receive information after the fall. Adam goes on his journey
with Michael while Eve sleeps. Many see this as supporting the gender hierarchy because Adam s
journey is considered a high form of prophecy because an angel is involved whereas dreams are often
considered a low form (McGrath79). Also, there is the fact that dreams used in previous points of the
poem were Satanic and therefore already given a negative connotation. The difference in which the
two are treated in terms of information is concerning, especially because the difference in which they
are treated is so wide, one traveling with an angel

  • 2. Cost Minimization Analysis Paper Cost minimization analysis is mostly applied in the health sector and is a method used to measure and compare the costs of different medical interventions Springer. Cost minimization analysis is the simplest type of cost analysis. The central focus is that one medical intervention is the same as another, at lower cost. That is the outcomes must be the same. If an institution wishes to substitute and anesthesia drug which cost $100 less than another there are several question that need to be answered prior to changing vendors or manufacturers. The first is quality of the medication. The Food and Drug Administration requires the drug to have the same active ingredients but the the inactive ingredients may not necessary be the same. The issue is the drug may be the absorbed different due to its inactive ingredients.. Some patient may not similarly absorb the medication which may require that greater quantities may be needed to achieve the anesthetic effect that is desired. As the purchaser of the less costly medication, I would ask the manufacturer to supply data, in controlled studies to support that the drug is not only therapeutic from the required active ... • 4. The Most Notable Irish Politicians Of The 19th Century And... John Dillon is one of the most notable Irish politicians of the later 19th century and early 20th century. He was an avid home rule advocate, a leader in the Irish Parliamentary Party, and a devout follower of Charles Parnell. He was jailed several times for his political activity within the home rule cause. In May of 1881, he wrote this letter out of Kilmainham Gaol, where he was imprisoned. One of the first notable things seen is the actual stationary, which is has black edges. Black edged stationery was mostly used for mourning stationary during the Victorian era. It was used when a family member died. Dillon s sister Christina had died from tuberculosis in December 1880, prompting him to use the black edge stationary. Dillon wrote the letter in Kilmainham Gaol, located in Dublin. It was opened in 1796, and was used to house political prisoners, as well as others. Notable prisoners held here were Dillon, Dillon s mentor Charles Stewart Parnell, Robert Emmet, The Invincibles, along with other Home Rule advocates and independence seekers. It was abandoned in 1924 due to aging infrastructure. Interest in its refurbishment began in 1966. Today, the gaol serves as a museum open to the public, operated by the Irish Office of Public Works. The letter was written on of May 30th, 1881, and was addressed to Cowen. This can be presumed to be Joseph Cowen, who was an English member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne from 1874 until 1886. • 5. Literary Synthesis Essay My choice for consideration of this essay are Edgar Allen Poe s The Purloined Letter and, Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party . In reading these works I enjoyed the beauty with witch the words flowed, because if often seemed like the writer was using poetry to present their story. The similes and metaphors brought the text to life, and I was able to picture myself alongside one of the characters. Even the use of onomatopoeias made my sense of sound participate in the reading. The diction with which the author chose to have his/her characters speak help me to establish a time period and setting in my mind. All of this helped to create a complete picture of what the writers were trying to convey within their works; however, it was the word choices that made me feel as though literature is not relevant to contemporary society. ... The word interposed means to put a barriers or obstacle between or in the way of something or someone. Although the use of these types of words were in use during this time period, they are outdated and not in use now. Having to look up the words made the reading less enjoyable. Additionally, in contemporary writing the use of a question mark is expected. In this sentence, Poe elected not to use this punctuation. • 6. College Recruiting Case Study Claim 3 The last important topic that needs to be addressed in college recruiting is when the players commit to the coach rather than the school. A lot of the high school athletes are just committing to the head coach rather than the university. Whenever a coach leaves another university for a different university, usually the high school athlete will follow the coach. For example, when P.J. Fleck announced he was leaving Western Michigan to be Minnesota s football coach, many of his recruits followed him. Kyle Sassack an offensive tackle from Pontiac who had committed to Western Michigan, told Gopherillustrated that after speaking with Fleck, he was sold to come play at Minnesota instead ( Windsor, 2017). Noah Hickcox, a defensive lineman also had been committed to Western Michigan for while, but when P.J. Fleck left, Hickcox decided to follow him. However, the ignorance to the turnaround time, during the ascent to the peak, had sealed the unfortunate fates of the climbers that day. That being said, the recovery for this industry finally starts getting better. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries approved to change the production last year, 2016. This arrangement has been holding over to this year, with oil prices increasing for the past several months. But in recent weeks, United States records have been found greater oil prices have been faded. Experts think it will be years before oil returns $100 a barrel, a price that was regular till late 2014. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is why prices began to decrease. In December 2014 the price went down to $55.48 per barrel. At that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than the Saudis thought. As firms cut costs and increased productivity in order to keep the oil flowing . (Oil Prices: What to Make of the Volatility.) In the meantime, major developing economies like China, Russia, and Brazil put a discouragement on the oil industry. An unusually mild winter helped overpower demand for heating oil, and also a stronger dollar means that some countries now have to pay more for crude imports. • 11. The Importance Of Sin In The Inferno By Dante Alighieri For centuries, sin has been a struggle in each individual s daily life. From the beginning of time, Satan has lured people to commit sins straying them away from God. As sins can become addictive, people crave the feeling of the satisfaction from committing wrong doings. Every day humans consciously commit sins like lust, gluttony, violence, greed, and hypocrisy. Hypocrites are people that do not practice the type of lifestyle they tell others to practice. The sin that humans struggle with the most in The Inferno by Dante Alighieri is hypocrisy because human beings hold other people to higher standards, are ashamed of their ways, and seek to impress others. Human beings are prone to hold loved ones to higher standards, leading to the sin of hypocrisy. Though hypocrisy is wrong, in many situations, hypocrites believes that they are lying to others in order to better improve another person s life. Many adults are hypocrites towards their children because they want better for them. For example, if a mother of a teenage son is addicted to smoking cigarettes, the mother would commit hypocrisy if she told the son not to smoke them. Though morally it is right for the mother to look out for her son and make sure he is safe, the practice of the mother telling her son to not smoke like she does would still be considered a sin according to Dante in The Inferno. Professional researchers have determined that power makes people stricter in moral judgment of others while being less strict of their own behavior ( If Power Corrupts Are the Powerful Absolutely Hypocritical ). It is difficult for people to lead the same kind of life they want others to lead. People tend to want to give good advice to strengthen loved ones rather than be truthful or not say anything at all. Humans psychologically have a hard time accepting their bad habits, and therefore choose to ignore them, not being truthful with themselves, God, and those surrounding them. Hypocrisy is a common sin among people because people are ashamed of their poor ways in life. It is known that humans become anxious about their reputation and social status in public. For reputations determine people s friends, jobs, and quality of life. Peoples lives tend to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with the Eastern Roman Emperor Gaius Valerius Licinianus Licinius Augustus (better known as Licinius I) signed the Edict of Milan, which ensured religious tolerance for Christians. The signing of the Edict of Milan gave freedom of worship to all, and brought an end to the Age of Martyrs and ended the persecution of Christianity. • 21. Social Instructivism And Second Language Acquisition Social constructivism emerged as the dominant theory of learning in the 20th century as it not only accounts for the cognitive process in constructing knowledge but also the cultural, social, and collaborative nature of such process. For more background information on social constructivism, see http://gsi.berkeley.edu/gsi guide contents/learning theory research/social constructivism/ The impact of the social constructivist theory was felt across the educational community, including the field of foreign language teaching. The theories of second language acquisition (SLA) have evolved to reflect the research of learning processes in general. Move the paragraph to the beginning???? The reason behind my interest in the latest SLA hypotheses is my professional and educational background. I have studied linguistics and second language acquisition and for the past 10 years I ve been teaching English as a second language, English for academic purposes as well as the Russian language. I have also worked as a language teacher educator and in curriculum developer. Not only as a language teacher, but as foreign language learner myself, I have been fascinated by the processes of learning and acquiring language. I try to continuously reflect on effective ways to teach language and explore different teaching approaches. I am hoping that revisiting educational theories and exploring the ways these theories are reflected in teaching practices will better inform my work as a teacher and curriculum developer. The understanding of second language acquisition has progressed from behaviorist (name theories here) to constructivist Universal Grammar (Chomsky, year?), language instinct (Pinker, 1995), Input Hypothesis (Krashen, 1985), Attention Processing model (McLaughlin, 1990, 1987), Explicit and Implicit models (Ellis, 1994, 1997; Bialystok 1982, 1978, 1990) and, finally, to social constructivist Interaction hypothesis (Long, 1981) later expanded on by Theresa Pica (year). (and complemented by the comprehensible output hypothesis (Swain, 1995), Authenticity/Task based instruction (Selinger) In order to better understand social constructivist theories in SLA, it is important to briefly mention the ideas that influenced ... Summary Of The C Word In The Hallways By Anna Quidlen In her composition, The C Word in the Hallways , Anna Quidlen implores parents, educators, and politicians to not perceive mental health issues and mental healthcare as preposterously inessential to the vitality of the modern social landscape, but to actively enhance the attention given to mental health issues. Her use of tone, diction, allusion, and a myriad of other rhetorical devices adds sustenance to her vilification of the attitudes surrounding mental health and her endeavor to illuminate this pertinent issue. We are supposed to be a peaceful and civilized nation, but because of guns, we are becoming a violent nation and a disaster. Many think that those who are negatively affected by guns are only inner city teens and young adults. This was proven to be untrue by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In that same situation, with no gun around, there is a much less chance of someone being severely injured or killed. Many people suggest securing schools more by doing things like locking all doors, bullet proof vestibules, mandatory ID and background checks, and even microchips monitoring people s whereabouts in the school. All of these things may help, but the problem is much bigger than the schools. The problem is in the access to guns that our laws allow. The use of guns by civilians should be banned because, the statistics show that the more guns, the more chance for violence. The military and law enforcement should be the only ones legally allowed to carry guns. When our forefathers drafted the Bill of Rights with the Second Amendment protecting the individual right to possess firearms, the society and the motive was different. it was a limited right and they left some authority over it to the government. The government is able to limit this, so seeing how guns are negatively affecting our society, they should use their power. There is no reason why so many people, living in what is supposed to be a peaceful society, possess guns. About 16,272 murders were committed in the United States during 2014. Of these, about 10,886, or 67%, were committed with firearms. A nationwide survey of 4,977 households found that over the previous five years, at least 0.5% of households had members who had used a gun for defense during a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this research paper, I am going to show the various aspects of the theme of death in the short story. Before the short story begins, Hemingway simply tells the story of a leopard s skeleton that is said to lie at a high altitude on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is up to the reader to decide how to relate this tale to the rest of the short story, but it is obvious at this point that death will play an important role in the story. The main storyline develops around the deadly infection of Harry s leg after suffering from a thorn scratch. He talks about death in the very first sentence of the short story, saying The marvelous thing is that it s painless, that s how you know when it starts (Hemingway 4). As the story develops, Harry frequently mentions his wish to die or thee way he feels that death is very close now: You can shoot me. You re a good shot now (Hemingway 4). and I don t want to move, there is no sense in moving now except to make it easier for you (Hemingway 8) and Can t you let a man die as comfortably as he can without calling him names? (Hemingway 8) and Don t be silly. I m dying now (Hemingway 8). It sounds as if Harry is giving up, not necessarily because he is a coward, even though his wife calls him that, but more because he feels that it is more comfortable for him at this point to lay down and die instead of waiting for a truck or airplane that will probably never arrive: I ... For short and long term of monitoring the deck, the instruments of geophysical are increase used which are; 1. accelerometers and tilt meter 2. strain gages Figure1: Tacoma Narrows Bridge with severe vibration Figure 2: Tacoma Narrows Bridge after collapse due to wind fluttering These are several problems that had been summarized; 1. The stability of aerodynamic of bridge deck when subject to high wind. 2. Some effect on stability of bridge decks for long term, impact by fatigue that caused by cyclic stresses which are including increased loading from the traffic, temperature changes and trucks that have heavy load. 3. The bridge decks stability during earthquakes. All the geophysical techniques are applied to overcome problems above. Those are principally specific to the vibration monitoring and some environmental monitoring which is vibration monitoring including strains, displacements, rotation and acceleration, while environmental monitoring including wind and temperature. All of these are affected Below are two major solutions to overcome fluttering problems of cable bridges; 1. Modification of the deck To create more stiff deck, the shape and configuration of the bridge deck must be modified (with respect to the length of the span). The shape of ... You pull out your phone and tap on the screen a few times; you have just ordered a tie online. Thirty minutes later, you walk outside and take a package from underneath a drone. Inside the package is the tie you had ordered. You quickly put on the tie and make it to the meeting on time. The autonomy of drones requires cameras, which many people think can be used to spy on people (Elzweig 173). However, major companies that would utilize drones already have many peoples personal information and have not done anything bad with them. Therefore, the pictures or videos from the cameras on drones would most likely not be used to harm people. Another argument that is made against delivery drones is that there is too much regulation from the government (Stark 26). Right now, the FAA, or Federal Aviation Administration, has a rule that autonomous drones cannot fly over highly populated areas (Peck 40). Another rule is that the drones cannot fly in a large range (Peck 40). While rules like this are in place right now, the rules will almost definitely change to fit with evolving technology. • 43. September 11 And Skyscrapers Why do people want to build in the sky? Skyscrapers are the most iconic symbol of the city and are amazing landscapes created by humans who reach the clouds and ignore gravity. It implements human aspirations that we want to build a much higher level of buildings. There is no doubt that constructing tall buildings is not something new. The most important things while raising buildings higher are its structural design and life safety for people living or working inside the buildings. Today, as the building is touching to the sky, occupants of buildings are worried more and more about how safe the building is. The major concerns regarding tall building are unplanned fire and terrorist attack. The 43rd president George W. Bush quoted in results to 9/11, Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve . As prospective engineers look to the future, we have the opportunity to learn the very lesson by understanding the collapse of the WTC Towers. In the years 9/11, the time after has arisen to learn and improve the design of future tall buildings against fire induced collapse. The building we build inspires us and reflects on who we are. Focusing on America and Britain, this discussion considers influences on all scales ranging from reclassification of physical roads to the decentralization of urban cores. Lippincott suggested the widening of existing streets and new diagonal arteries dedicated only to traffic , these plans alone would cut across the existing urban fabric dramatically (see figure 1). Eventually, the study led to formations of Major Street Traffic Plans, written by Olmsted, Bartholomew and Cheney from 1929. When implemented, the plans altered urban form in American cities with new openings, extensions and street patterns to reduce barriers to traffic (Roth, 2007). Figure 1. Proposed Plans for Downtown, Los Angeles (Traffic Commission of City and County of Los Angeles, 1924) To an extent, the Major Street Plans and motorways were planning measures to limit social and environmental externalities. Separating pedestrian, streetcar, and auto traffic enhanced the form of urban areas and provided an efficient, coordinated street system, for example improved traffic crossings ensured maximum pedestrian safety (Brown, 2006). With the separation of mobility and access, crossings and passageways secured pedestrian safety in high traffic areas. However, with cities serving as places of innovation and creative hubs of the economy , it is assumed that the mass population would favour proximity to central business districts (Jacobs, 1961). • 45. Opium Trade Dbq Essay During the 19th century, China transformed from a prosperous economic center to a weakened country in a system controlled by Great Britain, largely due to the opium trade. Prior to Europe s industrial revolution in 1800, China had little need for products from other countries, and participated sparingly in world trade, while Europe borrowed China s ideas and inventions to gain a financial foothold. But in the 19th century Britain introduced opium into the Chinese market, setting off a chain of events that lead to the Opium Wars, which along with the opium trade sapped China s economic strength. Nevertheless, she persisted, and in 1907 China passed a law that blocked the opium trade once and for all and took out Britain s system of power within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only that, British traders used their new rights to gain a strong foothold in the Chinese economy. The Treaty of Nanjing ensured that Britain would have a powerful influence within China and could do whatever they wanted. But in 1906, Britain ended the opium trade when China proposed a 10 year plan to completely eradicate opium. The massive size of both structures requires a lot of support, and The Dome of The Rocks and The Cathedral of Notre Dame utilizes such constructional technologies to just do that. Intellect Argument The intellect argument also comes into play when critics talk about Eve and her dreams, particularly the difference in which Adam and Eve receive information after the fall. Adam goes on his journey with Michael while Eve sleeps. Many see this as supporting the gender hierarchy because Adam s journey is considered a high form of prophecy because an angel is involved whereas dreams are often considered a low form (McGrath79). Also, there is the fact that dreams used in previous points of the poem were Satanic and therefore already given a negative connotation.
