The Sniper
The Sniper Original Writing
The long June twilight faded into night. Dublin lay covered in mist and enveloped in darkness but for
the dim light of the moon that glazed through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light approaching dawn
over the streets and the dark waters of the Lake. Around the deserted Four Courts the heavy guns
roared. Here and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, like
dogs barking on lone farms. Republicans and Free Staters were waging civil war.
On a rooftop near O Connell Bridge, a Republican sniper lay watching. Beside him lay his rifle and
over his shoulders was slung a pair of field glasses. His face was the face of a student, ... Show more

He rolled over the roof to a chimney stack in the rear, and slowly drew himself up behind it, until his
eyes were level with the top of the parapet. There was nothing to be seen just the dim outline of the
opposite housetop against the blue sky. His enemy was under cover.
Just then an armoured car came across the bridge and moved slowly up the street. It stopped on the
opposite side of the street, fifty yards ahead. The sniper could hear the dull roar of the motor. His heart
beat faster. It was an enemy car. He wanted to fire, but he knew it was useless. His bullets would never
pierce the steel that covered the grey monster.
Then round the corner of a side street came an old woman, her head covered by a tattered shawl. She
began to talk to the man in the turret of the car. She was pointing to the roof where the sniper lay. An
informer.
The turret opened. A man s head and shoulders appeared, looking toward the sniper. The sniper raised
his rifle and fired. The head fell heavily on the turret wall. The woman darted toward the side street.
The sniper fired again. The woman whirled round and fell with a shriek into the gutter.
Suddenly from the opposite roof a shot rang out and the sniper dropped his rifle with a curse. The rifle
clattered to the roof. The sniper thought the noise would wake the dead. He stooped to pick the rifle
up.

Under Armour Is Gaining Market Share And Challenging Nike
Abstract
Under Armour is gaining market share and challenging Nike in the sports apparel industry.
However, Under Armour is having major issues with inventory management and managing cost.
Inventory cost has increased steadily over the past three years and is now at the point where it is
out weighing revenue.

company has been in existence for a little over 15 years and has made huge strides in the textile,

strategic adjustments. The company s strategy lines up well with the sports apparel industry key
success factors. However, the company has a few weaknesses and threats they need to address in
order for the company to continue on the path of steady growth and stability.
The case study revealed there is a huge issue with inventory management. Under
Armour, inventory strategy is to have enough inventories to fill orders quickly. The company s

inventory is much higher than the sports apparel industry and that of its competitors. This
revelation has caused management to consider reducing the products offered by 20 percent.
The other issue revealed is that Under Armour does not own any patents for its products.
This issue poses a huge threat to the company. Under Armour has a group

Brand Strategy and Imc
Brand strategy and integrated marketing communication (IMC): a case study of player s cigarette...
Integrated marketing communication (IMC) is defined as a cross functional process for creating and
nourishing profitable relationships with customers and other stakeholders by strategically controlling
or influencing all messages sent to these groups and encouraging data driven, purposeful dialogue
with them (Duncan 2002, p. 8). To better understand the real world application of IMC, a call has been
made for case histories that focus on IMC best practices (see Duncan and Mulhern 2004, p. 19). In this
paper, we provide a case study that demonstrates how one company Imperial Tobacco Limited (ITL),
which is Canada s largest tobacco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other authors have related IMC to the decline in perceived effectiveness of television advertising,
which encouraged organizations to divert resources toward a variety of other media (e.g., Duncan and
Everett 1993; Kitchen and Schultz 1999; Rust and Oliver 1994). For the tobacco industry and
companies such as ITL, regulated restrictions on access to different media further compelled them to
seek a variety of nontraditional media. The case study of ITL and the Player s trademark is particularly
interesting because the legal and political environment facing the firm has seemingly accelerated its
move toward an IMC mind set and structure.
Conceptually, IMC provides a useful theoretical context for illustrating the image development of
particular cigarette brands, particularly in the context of understanding how tobacco companies
attempt to use recurrent themes and strategies when making the transition from one mode of
promotion to another. We acknowledge that IMC is not simply a multimedia coordinated campaign,
and Duncan and Mulhern (2004) have noted that IMC is more than just tactical consistency, usually
referred to as one voice, one look. Organizations can achieve an execution that is consistent and
appears to have integrated marketing communications, but the essence of the IMC movement is a call
to make marketing communication more effective through greater tactical coordination anda strong
brand strategy that

What Is The Purpose Of The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho
Analysis on Purpose in the Works of Paulo Coelho Every person has pondered or will at one time
ponder the question of their purpose in life. This is simply because purpose is the sole reason for
existence, so a person must contemplate the question in order to go about their days. And everybody
that has gone looking for the answer, has come back empty handed. The universe allows for life but it
doesn t leave the slightest clue as to why it was provided. It s true that if a person looks to the
universe, they won t find any answer, but what they will find is endless amount of interpretations. And
in this way the universe can take a person on an introspective journey to find their own interpretation.

Realizing one s purpose can be a journey in itself. In two of Coelho s novels: The Alchemist and The
Pilgrimage, he writes of miraculous journeys. In The Alchemist, a boy named Santiago is faced with
fork in his life and must decide how he interprets his own purpose. In The Pilgrimage, A man named
Paulo is very clear on his purpose, but faces many tribulations to realize it. Coelho s writings not only
shows the importance of finding one s own interpretation, but also give uplifting messages about the
hope and perseverance necessary in accomplishing the purpose. In the beginning of The Alchemist, a
very interesting perspective is given on how to interpret one s purpose. Santiago was happy being
shepard and even had the rest of his life mapped out. After years of roaming with his herd he was
beginning to become ready to settle down, and perhaps go to the down of a girl he loved with the
inclination to stay there. But, he had always had a confusing, recurring dream that there was treasure
far away in Egypt. And not only that, after telling this dream to a gypsy, she had told him that he must
go seek out this treasure. Santiago found himself looking at two different paths he could take. One
path was extremely easy and led him only to the next town over, but also promised him

Analysis Of The Story Cathedral
Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one from
perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind man, who
is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator and his wife.
The narrator has never interacted with blind people before, and all he knew about blind people was
what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on television as slow
moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator was reluctant to meet the
blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is evident when the narrator states, I
wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Carver 1).
The doubt the narrator had towards blind people his further evident when the blind man arrives at his
house. On seeing the blind man for the first time in the parking lot, the narrator noticed that the blind
man had a beard, but he thought that it was unusual. This is evident when the narrator remarks, This
blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say (Carver
4). The skeptical view, the narrator had towards blind people is further brought out when the narrator
was being told about the death of the blind man s wife. The narrator could not imagine a man
marrying a woman, living together, and having sex with

Rain By George Orwell Use Of Language
In any written text, a writer s discerning selection of word choice, vocabulary, punctuation and
imaginative techniques sets some common grounds for the reader to base his understanding upon. A
writer s linguistic techniques impart a significant measure of the text s content, as it helps him
establish the atmosphere, setting and tone. Furthermore, a writer s linguistic choices reveal much
about his identity and background, which helps the reader perceive the gist of the text. Meanwhile, a
picture is worth a thousand words. A visual text can also successfully engage the viewer into the
ambience of the text. In Text A, George Orwell employs language as a useful mechanism for
communication. George Orwell uses a lot of descriptive language, which adds to the substance of the
text and gives a more detailed account on the events of the story. For instance, this is displayed when
the writer says, In January there came a bitterly hard weather . (Line 1) In addition, the writer also
makes extensive use of similes, which makes the text a more compelling one and allows the writer to
seize the attention of the reader. As a case in point, Orwell states, The earth ... Show more content on

The Bim Capabilities And Bim Maturity Level
Project: To assess the BIM capabilities and BIM Maturity Level. Having established exiting BIM
maturity level, propose measures for achieving level 2 BIM by 2016.
According to the Government Construction Strategy document in 2011, the Government will require
fully collaborative Level 2 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data
being electronic) as a mini¬¬¬¬¬mum by 2016.
For the three weeks I am working at the London Bridge office of Jacob s, I intend to:
Understand exactly what BIM is and the basic criteria for each BIM level.
Evaluate where Jacob s is in relation to these BIM levels.
Suggest improvements as to how Jacob s can reach the Government s target by 2016.
The use of level 2 BIM in all public sector construction work is imperative as it affects everybody on a
day to day basis. Using BIM software will not only reduce the amount of time spent at the
construction site, but it will also reduce costs due to errors. One of the current projects Jacob s is
working on using BIM software is the Crossrail (Europe s largest construction project). This will
increase London s rail capacity by 10 per cent and bring 1.5 million new commuters , not to mention
bringing an estimated 42 billion to the UK economy and creating 30,000 jobs. Due to the use of some
aspects of BIM, the process of creating the Crossrail will not only be faster and more efficient but will
also help the UK s economy.

Virginia Woolf Research Paper
Virginia Woolf, born January 25th 1882, was an unorthodox British author and feminist who had an
immeasurable impact on women, those with mental illnesses, and the LGBT community. She was self
educated and even though her father a literary critic didn t condone women going to college he still
helped educate and influence Virginia. Woolf is believed to have revolutionized the english essay,
because she never learned how to write a set essay in school she came up with her own way. Virginia
Woolfs childhood was cloaked with chaos and darkness. Her father was very temperamental and
brooding. This only worsened after her mothers death in 1895 causing her father to withdraw into his
studies. Woolf had also been being sexually abused by her half brothers from her mothers previous
marriage. This abuse continued even after her mothers death into her young adulthood. Her mothers
death along with her sexual abuse was to highly conductive to Virginia; causing her to have her first of
many breakdowns at only 13. Virginia s father died ten years after her mother, shortly after Virginia
had another breakdown and made her first suicide attempt. There has been much controversy about the
causes of her chronic breakdowns. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

father lived she would have never became a writer. Woolf was very noncommittal towards marriage
and turned down various suitors. Beginning in 1910 Woolf became an advocate for Women rights.
Virginia liked to think of herself as very independent and in 1911 she rented a house which was a big
deal for the time period. The idea of women having their own space to create was exceedingly
important to her and so she wrote A Room Of Ones Own which is now considered a masterpiece of
political propaganda and the bible of what is called the second wave of the women s movement

Abstract
The steady magnetohydrodynamic flow of an incompressible non Newtonian power law nanofluid due
to a uniform rotation of an infinite disk is studied with heat and mass transfer. The thermal
conductivity has been assumed to obey the same nonlinear rheological model of the viscosity
function; as well as, the viscous dissipation has been comprised in the energy equation. The governing
PDEs are reduced to a set of ODEs; using the generalized Von Karman similarity transformations; for
which finite difference numerical scheme is implemented based on its associated boundary conditions.
The influence of the non Newtonian fluid characteristics on the distributions of fluid velocity
components, temperature and concentration of suspended nanoparticles has been analyzed. The
significant effects of thermal radiation, Brownian motion and thermophoresis phenomenon on the

Case Study 2 Will the steel companies develop global strategies?
Questions
1.
In the 20 years to 2000, the world s 40 largest steel companies made cumulative losses before tax of
US$10 billion, in spite of investing around US$75 billion in new capital equipment. In the following
five years, profitability increased but the return on capital was still low (...) . What were the reasons
for this trend? The first factor that I will appoint is a political/legal issue, according to PESTLE
analysis, and consists in the fact of some of the steel companies were subsidised by their respective
governments, which are not worried about making profits. Besides this, individual nations or groups
of nations had set up trade barriers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, I could also mention that this was a value destroying industry, since the cost pressure was high
but with the lower prices of steel, the companies had difficulties to pass the impact of the costs to the
customers. So, from my perspective, these are the main trends in the strategic environment that have
influenced steel company profits over the past few years. Nevertheless, the fact that most steel
companies operate largely within their national or regional markets, adapting their strategies only to
them, was, obviously, the primary aspect that contributed for the worsening of the situation.

Traditional middle ring suburbs are the logical place to improve density, but governments have to
make sure they don t disrupt local communities. Mr Sukkar, who s portfolio includes housing
affordability, said this is because people have quite rightly bought in a suburb, partly because of the
character of that suburb and they don t want it to change. This is why local government provides
resistance to density increase. The Victorian Government is facing stiff opposition over a $185 million
plan to renew public housing estates. The Boroondara local council is an example of this, fighting a
plan to redevelop a site at Bills St, Hawthorn with four hundred units and towers up to twelve storeys
high. Mr Sukkar concluded that the best approach is to increase density near train and tram routes to
take pressure off traditional suburbs. He also urged governments to unlock more surplus land for
housing. There is no simple solution to our housing affordability problem, but it s in our government s
hands to do something. I urge them to make some moves to make housing affordable. If this is too
much to ask for them, then we should bring in a government that s up to the

The Pros And Cons Of Analogue Versus Digital
Get a group of recording engineers together, and sooner or later the conversation will turn to a
discussion (probably quickly escalating to an argument) about analogue warmth and how things
sounded so much better BD (Before Digital) and even engineers and musicians who ve never worked
in earnest with all‑analogue systems (digital having become mainstream as far back as the 1980s)
seem keen to bring this perceived warmth into their productions.
What Is Analogue Warmth?
Not everyone has had first‑hand experience of magnetic tape recording and other analogue recording
technology, of course, but we ve all heard and admired the vast back catalogue of classic records made
using this technology from the 1950s onwards.
There are many factors that combine to create character in recordings, ranging from instruments,

A lot of the early digital gear certainly didn t live up to the hype that surrounded it, but understanding
and technology have come on in leaps and bounds since then, and to my mind digital recording
systems can now deliver pretty much all that was once promised: a near‑perfect recording medium
that gives back exactly what was recorded.
That s great in some circumstances, but it s not always what we want: in many cases, the technical
limitations and imperfections of analogue systems have become an integral part of the quality of the
recorded sounds that we all grew up with and the end result is perceived by many people as being
more pleasing than we can easily achieve today with all‑digital recording chains. Further than that,
some of the sounds resulting from abuse of analogue gear have become recognised effects in their own

Vygotsky And Piaget Similarities
Vygotsky and Piaget have similarities between their two theories of cognitive development. The first
similarity that I know about their theories is children learn increasingly complex information and
skills as they get older. The second similarity is Emphasis on both nature and nurture Both recognise
the role of heredity and maturation of the brain and body=nature. Piaget recognises how children meet
the demands of their environment. The final similarity is Children s cognitive abilities develop in a
sequence and particular abilities develop at certain stages. Vygotsky and Piaget have many
differences. Vygotsky believed that the child is a social being, and cognitive development is led by
social interactions. Piaget, on the other hand,

Shattered Glass Character Analysis
As I finish watching the movie, shattered glass, I saw that Stephan glass is a unique person when it
comes to writing. The way that Stephan took the The New Republic and fabricated all those stories

through his stories and how he fabricated them to seem like these events had occurred. He thrives for
the attention and is a person in need of gaining trust from these people to be accepted in that certain

certain stories come realistic.
Stephan is a superior writer and is very talented when it comes in the use of imagery, but fails in
hiding specific details in the story. Being a good writer must come with priorities in writing and the
big mistake he did was leave clues behind that lead him to be caught. The idea of him fabricating

more than a couple episodes of something. I see the term, less connected with watching movies. I
suppose you could binge watch movies, but I think that the term has more connotations with television

episodes of some kind of series.
I don t know, I don t think there is any, and maybe there is, in a scholastic scenes, but I don t think that

National Security Requires a Clear Acknowledgement of the...
Introduction
To succeed, we must face the world as it is (Obama, 2010, p.1). Globalization has resulted in
interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer
can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are
our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future
generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers
and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole
possessor and arbiter of influence.
The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age
of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world
order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we
must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin
veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on
our national security.

The Political And Legal Aspects Of International Marketing
The Political and Legal Aspects in Relation to Domestic and International Environment of Halal
Products Submitted by: Jessa Loreta Billano, 1338020 Submitted to: Dr. Syed M. Ahmed 10 August
2016 Executive Summary The advent of globalisation in the last two decades had an immense impact
to the political and legal environments which are essential aspects in international marketing. As there
is no existing single political and legal environment because of its complexity on a variety of levels,
the political and legal environment will be referred to as one concept in this paper. The political and
legal aspects will be discussed in relation to the domestic and international environment. In order to
have a grasp of the factors at play, this paper will use the Islamic law s enforcement of halal
regulations as an example. This paper will highlight the issues in the domestic environment such as
social and environmental concerns, intellectual property rights, and export and import controls. It will
also show how the absence of a unified halal standard in the international level magnifies the
importance to be aware of domestic certification bodies and unstable domestic laws and regulations.
Review International Marketing and the Role of Globalisation Czinkota et al. (2014) concisely define
international marketing as the process of planning and conducting transactions across national borders
to create exchanges that satisfy the

Organizational Behavior, Leadership, And Leadership
In any organization, it s extremely important for the people in leadership roles to possess a strong
leadership role. According to the text Organizational Behavior, leadership is the process of developing
ideas and a vision, living by values that support those ideas and that vision, and influencing others to
embrace them in their own behaviors, and making hard decisions about humans and other resources
(Hellriegel Slocum, 2011). Regardless of what type of leader an individual is, their main goal is to
lead an organization s employees to the desired goal. Each leader is different, and may approach how
they get employees to achieve the organization s goals in a number of different manners. Three
extremely popular leadership styles that are found in organizations around the globe are Transactional,
Transformational, and Authentic leadership. Transactional leadership focuses on results, conforms to
the existing structure of an organization and measures success according to that organization s system
of rewards and penalties (online.stu.edu). In an organization a transactional leader will attempt to
improve employee performance by motivating their employees to achieve goals through reward based
performance. So an employee who is performing at a high level will be rewarded, while the employee
exhibiting poor performance will be punished accordingly. There are both benefits and drawbacks to a
leader using the transactional leadership style. One of the most

The Milgram Experiment Is Ethical
The Milgram experiment was ethical, however there are issues within the experiment that may say
that it was unethical. The ends of the experiment were to get results from those who were obedient
while shocking the learner even under a stressful and complicated circumstances. In that time era,
there wasn t a strict control over the ethics of the experiments that had taken place. Today s modern
critics would never let this type of experiment happen if not all the variables were to be predicted

Best Buy Research Paper
The roots of Best Buy Co., Inc. can be traced back to St. Paul, Minnesota. This is where founder
Richard Schulze opened the doors of his Sound of Music store in 1966. Understanding a demand for
consumer audio components and systems in the St. Paul area, Schulze managed to provide a
combination of great prices and excellent service, thus building a strong customer base, which quickly
prompted an expansion into home appliances and video products.
The eighties prompted change as well as the opening of Best Buy s first superstore. During 1983, a
new corporate name was approved and the Sound of Music Company became known as Best Buy Co.,

The Ailment, Diagnosis, And Treatment Of 72 Year Old...
In the following case study I will discuss the ailment, diagnosis, and treatment of 72 year old Margaret
Donavan. In her case she was brought into the emergency room after suffering from a fall. After the
fall she was unable to get herself up but only suffered injury to her right hip. She was also very alert
and responsive at the scene. She had no previous history of any health issues besides hypertension
which she was taking medication for.
1. What is it meant by a complete, comminuted, intertrochanteric fracture of the right hip ?

When a femur becomes osteoporotic, it is the outer layer of the bone around the epiphyses and
diaphysis, which begins to thin. This is the compact bone. In the distal and proximal epiphyses there
would also be a loss of the cancellous bone. This is where the spongy bone is. When a bone is
osteoporotic, a person becomes more susceptible to suffering from a bone fracture. On an x ray, an
osteoporotic femur doesn t look as dense as a normal femur x ray. In some of them you can see the
larger spaces that are made in the trabeculae of the bone. This is the part that has a spongy appearance.
In a normal femur the spaces in the spongy bone are smaller and dense. In the osteoporotic bone, the
spaces are larger, which makes the bone more fragile. It doesn t have as strong of a structure as a
normal bone would.
4. Describe the microscopic features of osseous tissue that normally help long bones withstand lateral
stress without breaking.
When lateral stress is placed on the femur there are two different types of impact. The first one causes
compression of the bone on the side of the bone during impact. The second one causes stretching on
the opposite side of the bone during impact. When these two actions work together they actually
cancel each other out which takes away the need for compact bone in the middle area of the femur.
With this action, the middle area of bone

Ram Pressure Stripping Research Paper
The study reveals that a phenomenon called ram pressure stripping is more prevalent than previously

material to make new stars.
The study of 11,000 galaxies shows their gas the lifeblood for star formation is being violently
stripped away on a widespread scale throughout the local Universe.
Toby Brown, leader of the study and PhD candidate at ICRAR and Swinburne University of

matter that we call dark matter halos.
As galaxies fall through these larger halos, the superheated intergalactic plasma between them

Theories On How The Universe Formed
Theories of How The Universe Formed There are many theories on how the universes was created.
Some being ideas based on science and some being mere myths. The Big Bang Theory is a science
based theory, it gives a rational explanation as to how the universe might have come into existence.
The Big Bang theory states that all matter of the universe started a one giant atom which exploded
with a big bang sending dust a gas in all directions. That gas and dust then forming the suns and
planets we know today. This theory was first stated by George Lemaitre, a Belgian scientist and priest,
in 1927. His idea was mostly ignored until 1929 when an astronomer by the name of Edwin Hubble
discovered that the universe is indeed expanding. Now, the Big Bang theory in the perfect reason why
this expanding would be occurring, and this expanding is evidence that some where in history, the
universe must have started at one point. The Big Bang theory explains how the dust and gas got here
to form the stars and planets, and why the the universe would be expanding. Some more evidence of
the Big Bang is in the mid 1960s, astronomers Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson were having difficulty

Children Of Dust Ali Eteraz is a smart and thoughtful writer. He also has a way of adding a bit of
comedic value in his writings when needed. His book Children of Dust is a memoir of his life in
Pakistan and America. This book also reads more like a story as opposed to a book that just states
facts. This book Children Of Dust is broken down into five parts. Each one of these parts signify a
different name he takes for himself. Meaning, each of these names or parts identify a certain stage in
his life, that he comes to terms with something. Such as Pakistan, Islam, and America and how he
belongs to each.
The first part of this book is called The Promised Abir ul Islam. This means the Perfume of Islam, and
is about Ali as a child in Pakistan, who learns of his destiny and attends a maraca (Eteraz, 1). Before
Ali was born, his father enters a mannat, or a Covenant with God. He said that if God were to give
him a son, then he would promise that the family will become a great leader and a servant of Islam.
After Ali was born, his mother went to Hajj and brought Ali with her. She then rubbed the baby s chest
on the wall of the Ka ba in Mecca. This was a way for him to be blessed by God, or Allah. He grew up
in a small Pakistan village and has fond memories of his family. However, he did grow up in a strict
Muslim household. After a brief but hard madrassa education, this chapter in his life is over. His

yielded Toy Story, A Bug s Life, and Monsters Inc. Then, they made a long lasting movie, Finding

St. Augustine Religion
St. Augustine is considered one of the most profound popes that the Catholic Church has ever had, not
only from his popular texts, but the fact that he unified members of the church, and up bring their
mural at a turbulent time. St. Augustine was born in modern day Algeria(then part of the Roman
Empire) in 354 AD. Eventually, near the age of 17 18, he travelled to Carthage to excel in his studies.
Here, he met the future of the mother of his child, and remained with her for over fifteen years. Soon
however, he eventually left his old hedonistic life behind to join the priesthood. This is when he would
eventually start to write more of his popular work.
St. Augustine wrote many texts, reportedly up to one hundred. The most popular however ... Show

This included stealing of his neighbors fruit for no other reason besides the fact that he wanted to
commit the sin. Then he would boost about sleeping around with women even though he hadn t
because he wanted the attention. These experiences are how Augustine believed that humans were
inclined towards original sin, and could only be saved from the grace of God. Next, in his work about
the Holy Trinity, Augustine wrote about how the Holy Trinity was one substance, including the Father,
the Son, and the Spirit, and not separate. This does not, however, make three gods or three creators.
The Father, the Son and the Spirit are each one Person, and any person affirms himself for himself (De
Trin, VII, 11). Lastly, in the City of God, Augustine wrote that the fall of the Roman Empire was not
at the hands of the Christians. In this, he also emphasized his original position on original sin, and
include statements of good versus evil. Furthermore, Augustines work were vital to debating points in
the first council that defined the Holy Trinity(First Council of Nicaea), set up by Constantinople.
Augustine spent his final days in Hippo. Here, he carried out a miracle of curing a sick man. Apart
from this however, he fell ill while Germanic Tribesmen called Vandals invaded the Roman Empire

Cosmological Argument From Motion
To begin, we start with an a posteriori argument, or an argument from experience. Arguments from
experiences of the world to the existence of God are called cosmological arguments. This particular
argument is the argument from motion. Argument from Motion: P1. Some things are moved. P2. If
something is moved to being F, then it is potentially but not actually F. P3. If something moves a thing
to be F, then it (the mover) is in a state of actuality relevant to F. C1. If something were to move itself
to be F (e.g., be both moved and its own mover), then it would be both potentially but not actually F
and also in a state of actuality relevant to F (conjunction, modus ponens, P1 3). P4. But it is not
possible for something to be both potentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will leave it to con to find any objections to this argument; however, I will respond to one
preemptive problem that may seemingly arise. The issue comes from a seeming contradiction between
Newton s law of inertial motion, or Newton s first law of motion, and the Aristotelian definition of
motion on which the argument above rests. The problem may be resolved in two ways. Firstly, to
assert that there is a contradiction is to equivocate between two different definitions of the word
motion. Newton s account of motion is only concerned with local motion (motion or change in terms
of place or location), while the Aristotelian is concerned with change of every sort (quality, quantity,
substance, accident, etc.). Secondly, there is no formal contradiction. As the Thomist philosopher
Edward Feser says: Suppose that motion is being used in the two principles in the same sense. Even
given this assumption, there is no formal contradiction between them. Newton s law tells us that a
body will in fact continue its uniform rectilinear motion if it is moving at all, as long as external forces
do not prevent this. It does not tell us why it will do so. In particular, it does not tell us one way or the
other whether there is a mover of some sort which ensures that an object obeys the First Law, and
which is in that sense responsible for its

Essay On Texas Local Government
Chapter ten focuses on Texas local government and why it is such a huge deal. The local government
is closer and highly responsive to citizens than the state and the federal government. They provide
water, public education, and other services. Over the years, Texas is rapidly becoming more diverse
which creates a greater demand for more representation in the local government. The top five cities
have diverse city councils. It does make a difference when a city s council does not reflect the city s
population. San Antonio s city council best reflects the racial/ethnic composition of its population.
Sadly, Houston s council diverges the most from its city s racial/ethnic composition. They have five
members of the council who are white, but the largest race in their population are Latinos

legal (Champagne, Harpham, Casellas 344). They provide public services like sanitation, ambulance
services, and hospital care (Siegel). I feel like cities and counties shouldn t do the jobs that special
districts do even though they both exercise the same powers. Special districts are more hands on and
tailored to their counties. Every county has different concerns and needs. Cities and counties do not do
the jobs that special districts do because taxes make it harder for them to provide services citizens
want. The amount differs and for each county. Property taxes and user fees are the main source of

Utilitarian Logic in Hard Times Essay
Utilitarian Logic in Hard Times
Utilitarianism Quadruped. Graminivorous. Forty teeth, namely twenty four grinders, four eye teeth,
and twelve incisive. Sheds coat in spring...... A perfect example of a product of utilitarian education,
Bitzer defines a horse off the top of his head in a split second. Utilitarianism is the assumption that
human beings act in a way that highlights their own self interest. It is based on factuality and leaves
little room for imagination. Dickens provides three vivid examples of this utilitarian logic in Hard
Times.

How can you give a utilitarian man such as Gradgrind such power over a town? I do like how Dickens
structures the book to make one ask obvious questions such as these. Dickens does not tell us much
about the success of the other students of the school besides Bitzer, who is fairly successful on paper,
but does not have the capacity as a person to deal with life s everyday struggles.
Gradgrinds two oldest children, Tom and Louisa, are examples of how this utilitarian method failed
miserably. These children were never given the opportunity to think for themselves, experience fun
things in life, or even use their imaginations. True, they are smart people in the factual sense but do
not have the street smarts to survive. Tom is a young man who, so fed up with his father s strictness
and repetition, revolts against him and leaves home to work in Mr. Bounderby s bank. Tom, now out
from under his fathers wing, he begins to drink and gamble heavily. Eventually, to get out of a deep
gambling debt, he robs a bank and is forced to flee the area. When Bitzer realizes that Tom has robbed
the bank and catches him, Mr. Gradgrind begs him to let Tom go, reminding him of all of the hard
work that was put on him while at the school. Ironically Bitzer, using the tools of factuality that he had
learned in Gradgrinds school, replies that the school was paid for, but it is now over and he owes
nothing more. I think this is extremely funny how,

nigger it is crucial to look deeply at the scenario because it can be used in so many ways for so many
reasons. For instance, overlooking the time period, the geographical location and the acts unfolding
could lead to a misunderstanding of the true meaning of the word nigger . The two biggest things to
consider when determining the true meaning of the word is to recognize who is using the word and
who exactly the word is being targeted towards; but failing to recognize other factors also help when
determining the connotation. Race is a huge part of how this word is defined. Because this word has a

Suddenly from the opposite roof a shot rang out and the sniper dropped his rifle with a curse. The rifle clattered to the roof. The sniper thought the noise would wake the dead. To better understand the real world application of IMC, a call has been made for case histories that focus on IMC best practices (see Duncan and Mulhern 2004, p. 19). In this paper, we provide a case study that demonstrates how one company Imperial Tobacco Limited (ITL), which is Canada s largest tobacco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other authors have related IMC to the decline in perceived effectiveness of television advertising, which encouraged organizations to divert resources toward a variety of other media (e.g., Duncan and Everett 1993; Kitchen and Schultz 1999; Rust and Oliver 1994). For the tobacco industry and companies such as ITL, regulated restrictions on access to different media further compelled them to seek a variety of nontraditional media. The case study of ITL and the Player s trademark is particularly interesting because the legal and political environment facing the firm has seemingly accelerated its move toward an IMC mind set and structure. Conceptually, IMC provides a useful theoretical context for illustrating the image development of particular cigarette brands, particularly in the context of understanding how tobacco companies attempt to use recurrent themes and strategies when making the transition from one mode of promotion to another. We acknowledge that IMC is not simply a multimedia coordinated campaign, and Duncan and Mulhern (2004) have noted that IMC is more than just tactical consistency, usually referred to as one voice, one look. Organizations can achieve an execution that is consistent and appears to have integrated marketing communications, but the essence of the IMC movement is a call to make marketing communication more effective through greater tactical coordination anda strong brand strategy that ... What Is The Purpose Of The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho Analysis on Purpose in the Works of Paulo Coelho Every person has pondered or will at one time ponder the question of their purpose in life. This is simply because purpose is the sole reason for existence, so a person must contemplate the question in order to go about their days. And everybody that has gone looking for the answer, has come back empty handed. The universe allows for life but it doesn t leave the slightest clue as to why it was provided. It s true that if a person looks to the universe, they won t find any answer, but what they will find is endless amount of interpretations. In The Alchemist, a boy named Santiago is faced with fork in his life and must decide how he interprets his own purpose. In The Pilgrimage, A man named Paulo is very clear on his purpose, but faces many tribulations to realize it. Coelho s writings not only shows the importance of finding one s own interpretation, but also give uplifting messages about the hope and perseverance necessary in accomplishing the purpose. In the beginning of The Alchemist, a very interesting perspective is given on how to interpret one s purpose. Santiago was happy being shepard and even had the rest of his life mapped out. After years of roaming with his herd he was beginning to become ready to settle down, and perhaps go to the down of a girl he loved with the inclination to stay there. But, he had always had a confusing, recurring dream that there was treasure far away in Egypt. And not only that, after telling this dream to a gypsy, she had told him that he must go seek out this treasure. Santiago found himself looking at two different paths he could take. • 8. Analysis Of The Story Cathedral Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one from perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind man, who is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator and his wife. The narrator has never interacted with blind people before, and all he knew about blind people was what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on television as slow moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator was reluctant to meet the blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is evident when the narrator states, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Carver 1). The doubt the narrator had towards blind people his further evident when the blind man arrives at his house. On seeing the blind man for the first time in the parking lot, the narrator noticed that the blind man had a beard, but he thought that it was unusual. This is evident when the narrator remarks, This blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say (Carver 4). The skeptical view, the narrator had towards blind people is further brought out when the narrator was being told about the death of the blind man s wife. Rain By George Orwell Use Of Language In any written text, a writer s discerning selection of word choice, vocabulary, punctuation and imaginative techniques sets some common grounds for the reader to base his understanding upon. A writer s linguistic techniques impart a significant measure of the text s content, as it helps him establish the atmosphere, setting and tone. Furthermore, a writer s linguistic choices reveal much about his identity and background, which helps the reader perceive the gist of the text. Meanwhile, a picture is worth a thousand words. A visual text can also successfully engage the viewer into the ambience of the text. In Text A, George Orwell employs language as a useful mechanism for communication. George Orwell uses a lot of descriptive language, which adds to the substance of the text and gives a more detailed account on the events of the story. For instance, this is displayed when the writer says, In January there came a bitterly hard weather . Mr Sukkar, who s portfolio includes housing affordability, said this is because people have quite rightly bought in a suburb, partly because of the character of that suburb and they don t want it to change. This is why local government provides resistance to density increase. The Victorian Government is facing stiff opposition over a $185 million plan to renew public housing estates. The Boroondara local council is an example of this, fighting a plan to redevelop a site at Bills St, Hawthorn with four hundred units and towers up to twelve storeys high. That s great in some circumstances, but it s not always what we want: in many cases, the technical limitations and imperfections of analogue systems have become an integral part of the quality of the recorded sounds that we all grew up with and the end result is perceived by many people as being more pleasing than we can easily achieve today with all‑digital recording chains. Globalization has resulted in interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole possessor and arbiter of influence. The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on our national security. Ram Pressure Stripping Research Paper The study reveals that a phenomenon called ram pressure stripping is more prevalent than previously thought, driving gas from galaxies and sending them to an early death by depriving them of the material to make new stars. The study of 11,000 galaxies shows their gas the lifeblood for star formation is being violently stripped away on a widespread scale throughout the local Universe. Toby Brown, leader of the study and PhD candidate at ICRAR and Swinburne University of Technology, said the image we paint as astronomers is that galaxies are embedded in clouds of dark matter that we call dark matter halos. As galaxies fall through these larger halos, the superheated intergalactic plasma between them removes their gas in a fast acting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Theories On How The Universe Formed Theories of How The Universe Formed There are many theories on how the universes was created. Some being ideas based on science and some being mere myths. The Big Bang Theory is a science based theory, it gives a rational explanation as to how the universe might have come into existence. The Big Bang theory states that all matter of the universe started a one giant atom which exploded with a big bang sending dust a gas in all directions. That gas and dust then forming the suns and planets we know today. This theory was first stated by George Lemaitre, a Belgian scientist and priest, in 1927. His idea was mostly ignored until 1929 when an astronomer by the name of Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe is indeed expanding. Now, the Big Bang theory in the perfect reason why this expanding would be occurring, and this expanding is evidence that some where in history, the universe must have started at one point. The Big Bang theory explains how the dust and gas got here to form the stars and planets, and why the the universe would be expanding. Then he would boost about sleeping around with women even though he hadn t because he wanted the attention. These experiences are how Augustine believed that humans were inclined towards original sin, and could only be saved from the grace of God. Next, in his work about the Holy Trinity, Augustine wrote about how the Holy Trinity was one substance, including the Father, the Son, and the Spirit, and not separate. This does not, however, make three gods or three creators. The Father, the Son and the Spirit are each one Person, and any person affirms himself for himself (De Trin, VII, 11). Lastly, in the City of God, Augustine wrote that the fall of the Roman Empire was not at the hands of the Christians. In this, he also emphasized his original position on original sin, and include statements of good versus evil. If something moves a thing to be F, then it (the mover) is in a state of actuality relevant to F. C1. If something were to move itself to be F (e.g., be both moved and its own mover), then it would be both potentially but not actually F and also in a state of actuality relevant to F (conjunction, modus ponens, P1 3). I will leave it to con to find any objections to this argument; however, I will respond to one preemptive problem that may seemingly arise. The issue comes from a seeming contradiction between Newton s law of inertial motion, or Newton s first law of motion, and the Aristotelian definition of motion on which the argument above rests. The problem may be resolved in two ways. Firstly, to assert that there is a contradiction is to equivocate between two different definitions of the word motion. Newton s account of motion is only concerned with local motion (motion or change in terms of place or location), while the Aristotelian is concerned with change of every sort (quality, quantity, substance, accident, etc.). Secondly, there is no formal contradiction. As the Thomist philosopher Edward Feser says: Suppose that motion is being used in the two principles in the same sense. Even given this assumption, there is no formal contradiction between them. Newton s law tells us that a body will in fact continue its uniform rectilinear motion if it is moving at all, as long as external forces do not prevent this. It does not tell us why it will do so. In particular, it does not tell us one way or the other whether there is a mover of some sort which ensures that an object obeys the First Law, and which is in that sense responsible for its ... The local government is closer and highly responsive to citizens than the state and the federal government. They provide water, public education, and other services. Over the years, Texas is rapidly becoming more diverse which creates a greater demand for more representation in the local government. The top five cities have diverse city councils. It does make a difference when a city s council does not reflect the city s population. San Antonio s city council best reflects the racial/ethnic composition of its population. Sadly, Houston s council diverges the most from its city s racial/ethnic composition. They provide public services like sanitation, ambulance services, and hospital care (Siegel). I feel like cities and counties shouldn t do the jobs that special districts do even though they both exercise the same powers. Special districts are more hands on and tailored to their counties. Utilitarianism is the assumption that human beings act in a way that highlights their own self interest. It is based on factuality and leaves little room for imagination. I do like how Dickens structures the book to make one ask obvious questions such as these. Dickens does not tell us much about the success of the other students of the school besides Bitzer, who is fairly successful on paper, but does not have the capacity as a person to deal with life s everyday struggles. Gradgrinds two oldest children, Tom and Louisa, are examples of how this utilitarian method failed miserably. These children were never given the opportunity to think for themselves, experience fun things in life, or even use their imaginations. True, they are smart people in the factual sense but do not have the street smarts to survive. Tom is a young man who, so fed up with his father s strictness and repetition, revolts against him and leaves home to work in Mr. Bounderby s bank. Tom, now out from under his fathers wing, he begins to drink and gamble heavily. Eventually, to get out of a deep gambling debt, he robs a bank and is forced to flee the area. When Bitzer realizes that Tom has robbed the bank and catches him, Mr. Gradgrind begs him to let Tom go, reminding him of all of the hard work that was put on him while at the school.
