1. FINTECH: AN ASSET OR LIABILITY
Is Digital Economy Smart? - eletsonline
 With the advent of smart wallet systems like paytm in
India and the economic system going cashless is
plastic money and virtual wallets a smart move?
 When a country with primary source of income as
agriculture and small traders that depend on everyday
cash income flow suddenly decide t go cashless and
smart, it leaves the mass in uncertainty. Can Artificial
Intelligence (AI) contribute towards the economic
growth and change conventional Finance with
technology?
 AI has now merged finance and technology and given
rise to the emergence of new Fintech interaction in the
digital space. Some widely used Fintech tools today
 What are the risks of virtual money and e-banking?
Virtual wallets are often left unused or money is
non-transferable unless a purchase is made. This gives
the customer a reason to spend even through he did
not intend to. It is similar to a sales pitch where
customers are tricked into buying more than they need
with bulk offers and discounts.
This is one of the risks of a cashless economy where
real money is in deficit and the economy slips into loss.
However the virtual wallets show that there is still a lot
of money but only if you spend it.
2. 100% FDI IN COAL MINING WILL HELP INDIA TO REACH 300 MT TARGET
-DELOITTE
Leanings:
In August, the government had allowed 100 %
foreign investment in coal mining and contract
manufacturing.
India’s move to allow 100 per cent foreign direct
investment in coal mining is a “positive move” and a
good policy enabler towards the country long term
ambition of producing 300 million tones of steel per
annum.
There is an opportunity to partner with some of the
global miners specifically in the area of technology
transfer and advancing the competitiveness of India's
mining sector, particularly in the area of digitization.
 “Foreign investment brings in new technologies,
which brings in new, technologies, which bring in new
techniques, new mindset. And I think that raises the
overall competitiveness of industries. So foreign
direct investment has a positive effect on the industry
as a whole. That’s why this move on the part of the
government is really a step in the right direction” he
further said.
 The cabinet had earlier approved the National Steel
Policy 2017 that envisage Rs 10 loch crore
investment to take capacity to 300 million tonnes by
2030-31

6. MUTUAL FUND HOUSES APPROACH SEBI
WITH 125 NEW SCHEMES IN 2019 SO FAR
 Fixed maturity plan, exchange traded fund (ETF),
retirement, sustainable equity fund and business cycle
fund are some of the themes for which the mutual fund
houses have filed the applications. Interestingly, many
mutual fund companies are also looking at index funds
and global funds
 With just two months to go for the year-end, draft
papers for nearly 125 mutual fund schemes have been
filed by asset management companies with SEBI so far
in 2019, much lower than 211 such documents
submitted in entire 2018. Fund houses attributed the
fewer NFOs(new fund offers) in 2019 to tepid investors’
sentiment and liquidity crisis in debt funds.
7.CONSOLIDATED ACCOUNT STATEMENT
 Consolidated account statement or CAS is a single
combined statement that shows all the mutual fund
investments done by an investor in a month.
 Investors are increasingly using the direct route for
investing in mutual funds. Direct route means that
investors are investing directly through the fund
houses and not through a distributor. Typically, the
investors invest through 4-5 schemes across different
fund houses. While each fund house sends a
statement to the investor, it would include details of
investments made only through that particular AMC
 There is also the option of viewing a summary
statement or a detailed one as well. Typically, the
statement that is emailed is password protected for

according to a new report by Baker McKenzie
 “We know that around the world, there are many investors
and companies with capital on the sidelines, waiting to move
forward with domestic and cross-border deals”. A range of
upside and downside risks could impact the global economy
and lead to a rise or drop in deal values and volumes that
differ from the central transitions forecast presented in this
report. To explore both upside and downside risks, the report
look at five different economic scenarios: Trade War
Escalation, Protracted Euro zone slowdown, US Recession
Hits the Global Economy, No-deal Brexit, and Trade War
9.GOOGLE PAY GROWS 3X IN INDIA IN 12
MONTHS
-Financial Express

at least once a month.
 Google pay has grown 3x in India in the last 12 months,
Sajith Sivanandan , MD and business head of Google
Pay and Next Billion users. He is optimistic about
growth to continue in the country. India’s payment

entering the segment.
 Sivanandan said the company had over 3,000 on-line
merchants across sectors like food delivery(Swiggy,

10. WHAT IS LONG TERM CAPITAL GAINS TAX?
-financial express
 Long Term Capital Gains Tax meaning: Long Term
Capital Gains Tax or LTCG Tax is the tax levied on the
profit generated by an asset such as real estate and
shares, which is held for a long time period.
 There are different types of capital gains. For
example, while in the case of property, the asset may
be deemed as “long term” only if held for three years
or more, in case of stocks, the limit may be set at one
year. The gain or profit from selling the asset is
classified as capital gain and hence, one needs to pay
tax on it in the year that the asset transfer takes place.
How do you calculate Long Term
Capital Gain Tax on sale of
property?
 Once the period of holding for various assets is
defined for categorizing it “ long term”, one may look at
the tax rates that apply. For instance, the government
may choose to apply 10% long term capital gains tax
when equity shares or units of the equity-oriented fund
are sold, whereas it may levy 20% LTCG on the sale
of a property. Keep in mind that Long Term Capital
Gains Tax on sale of equity shares is a phenomenon
witnessed on and off in the Indian taxation regime
over time.
