Analysis Of Disobedience As A Psychological And Moral...
The Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem was written by Erich Fromm. The
author was a writer in the twentieth century. He did various things and had various jobs. The
author talks about the effects of obedience and disobedience. He explains that the world we live
in today will be destroyed through disobedience. Fromm uses mythological and religious figures to
explain how this theory makes sense. Fromm argues that society goes on without accomplishing
freedom through disobedience. Some forms of disobedience are acceptable, but others may be too
harsh and unnecessary. Fromm strongly believes that humans should be disobedient and if not
they will not be successful in life. The first thing that he talks about is Adam and Eve and how
they disobeyed an order, which was when they ate from the forbidden tree. The consequence of
disobeying a request made the ties with Earth tear and their eyes to open. Adam and Eve never
again observed each other as equivalents, they took a gander at each different as outsiders and
additionally their general surroundings. Fromm states that the... Show more content on

The human conscience is our own instinct and the opinion of people. This is based off us knowing
what is human and inhuman and what is beneficial to life and what destroys or harms life. This is
the one that helps us function as humans. The authoritarian conscience is what individual people
tell when wanting to make people happy. Fromm referenced Freud in the essay stating that he
looked at this type of conscience as Superego which represents the internal commands and
prohibitions of father, and it is accepted by the son out of fear. Fromm incorporates many different
philosophies, including the rational and irrational authority. The statement ipso facto submission

Racial Minorities And Its Impact On American Society
While Southwestern boasts itself as an extremely progressive, liberal institution. The university
does meet many of the requirements to call itself these things it s staff is not very diverse. In just
the year 2015 Southwestern granted tenure to the first black male in its history Dr. Reggie Byron.
Dr. Bryon became one of just five males of color tenured at Southwestern out of 91 tenured faculty.
This represents that the faculty at Southwestern Universitystrongly under represents racial
minorities in its tenured staff. This lack of diversity exemplifies a structure of privilege at
Southwestern that disproportionately furthers the interests of white students and professors and
excludes racial minorities from the same experiences. First, the possible causes for this lack of
diversity must be shown as to expose this structure of privilege here at Southwestern. One factor
that plays a major role in the hiring of racial minorities especially at positions thought of as very
professional, which professors fall under is how society defines professionalism. The way we
visual the word professional in American society is very stigmatized and obviously benefits the
dominant group. Most of the time we picture a white male body in a suit with short, straight hair
and is well groomed. None of these indicators point to a minoritybody as being professional. This
becomes a form of colorblind racismwhere the inequality of racial minorities is contributed to
things that are not racial

Lewis Mere Christianity
Lewis discusses the difficult topics of atonement and the Christian life within chapters four and five
of Mere Christianity. Lewis maintains his mere Christianity explanation of the topics by not
focusing on the multiple theories, by not diving deeper into explanations that will never be fully
adequate for Earthly beings, and by focusing on what is true across all denominations of Christianity
; he focuses on what is true for mere Christianity. I find his approach to the doctrines of atonement
and the Christian life to be strong. He does not give those who doubt an escape from accepting the
truth. Lewis does not focus on the multiple theories and warns the reader against focusing on the
theories and not on what all Christians agree upon. He states The central Christian belief is that
Christ s death has somehow put us right with Godand given us a fresh start. Theories as to how it
did this are another matter. A good many different theories have been held as to... Show more

This focus on commonality is evident when mentions his Methodist friend disagreeing to which of
the three things that spread the Christ life to us should be emphasized over the others. Lewis
instead concentrates on the fact that Christians in general all agree that the three are important. He
does not get into a detailed debate on which of the three is most important because he wants to
maintain what is true to mere Christianity. Lewis knows that he believes that these three things are
important to Christianity but is unable to explain why. By admitting that he cannot explain why, he
is allowing the reader to form their own opinion or theory; but he is not allowing room for them
not to believe in the three things and in the truth, which is Christianity. Lewis upholds his focus on
mere Christianity by not focusing on a certain denomination s beliefs, but he focuses on what is
accepted by Christians, of all sects, as a

The Nature Of Human Activity
Archaeology, the study of the material remains of human activity, depends on certain sources of
data and the interpretation thereof. It is not always easy to distinguish explicit expressions of
theory within the archaeological reports that follow excavations. However, it is nearly impossible
to find empiricism, which is an inherently implicit element of theory and is therefore very difficult
to express outright. The most general definition is that empiricism holds that knowledge comes
through sense and experience. In archaeology, an additional facet is added to the definition: the
ability of items of the archaeological record, artifacts or data, to speak for themselves through sheer
scientific inquiry. There are many sub descriptions of empiricism. The two most common are vulgar
empiricism, which is a strictly atheoretical perspective, that is to say without theory or even outside
of theory, not to be confused with the other, empirical sufficiency, the necessity that a claim be
backed by empirical data. Though hidden under other theories, empiricism is within all
archaeological processes. It is from these shadows of theory that the archaeological community
should bring empiricism into the open and acknowledge it as a necessary part of the archaeological
interpretation process.
The word empiricism is derived from the ancient Greek word for experience, empeiria. As a
theoretical element, in its modern form, it began with the writings of Francis Bacon, Pierre
Gassendi, and

Differences Between Han China And Gupta India
During the years 320 BCE and 550 CE, two civilizations coexisted, Han China and Gupta India;
both civilizations developed in Eurasia. Han China and Gupta India, both focused their religious
views on the mandate of heaven. The political system of Han China is similar to that of Gupta
India, in that both included strict laws and stressed the importance of your role in society. Han China
and Gupta India also used hierarchy and bureaucracy as their political control. A major difference
between these administrations is that in Han China the emperor was fully in charge, even
revered, while in Gupta India priests were at the top of the hierarchy. Han China and Gupta India
both had an idea of hierarchy social structure. However, the Gupta s social hierarchy was based on
religion and Han was not. The Han China has king on top of... Show more content on

Ordinary Resurrections, By Jonathan Kozol
The novel Ordinary Resurrections, written by Jonathan Kozol, focuses on an area in south New
York called the Bronx, which is a poor community composed of mainly African American and
Hispanic people. The author, Jonathan Kozol, focuses the novel specifically on the children
who live in a section of the South Bronx called Mott Haven, which is America s epicenter for the
plague of pediatric and maternal AIDS (Kozol 3) and is one of the centers of an epidemic of
adult and pediatric asthma. (Kozol 3). The people of Mott Haven do not have sufficient access
to healthcare, live in extreme poverty, and are malnourished. However, Kozol does see some
good things in Mott Haven such as the teachers at the public elementary school. Kozol is
impressed with these teachers because they strive every day to provide education and aid to the
kids of the Bronx. He believes that the education of a person early in their life has a major impact

cannot pay for extra education such as tutoring or private schooling. Kozol wants each and every

The Psychology of Religion
In terms of the psychology of religion, many thinkers have commented about the origins of
religious belief. Some of these support these religious beliefs, some don t. However it is first
appropriate to establish whether or not they are actually making a valid comment on the subject of
religion or not.
Georg Hegel (1770 1831) was the initial scholar to step foot into this field. He redefined God by
creating a character he often named Spirit . He attempted to make God sound theistic by giving
God a mind. In some passages, this mind was made to resemble the transcendent mind of
Christianity s theistic God, although some interpreters recognised that Spirit s mind was actually
nothing but the collective psyche of man. For this reason, and ... Show more content on

William James pragmatism hypothesis stems from religion s efficacy. If an individual believes in
and performs religious activities, and those actions happen to work, then that practice appears the
proper choice for said individual. However, if no, there is no rationality to continue with the action.
It is possible that James was influenced but Epicurus two sovereign masters .
In terms of critiques of w. James, he does not attempt to prove or disprove that God exiles, so his
work is ambiguous and leaves his working assumptions unexplored. Also, his work focused
solely on mystical experiences and avoided the kind of public religious experiences Swinburne
would later consider. And, is pragmatism a good basis for religion? It ignores the religious
teaching of the efficacy of suffering to transform the character of the believer. For religion
suffering is not the issue but sin. James never defines what he means by God and this casts doubt
on the significance of describing mystical experiences.
Sigmund Freud (1856 1939) was a psychologist who continued this area of study and had, in the
opinion of many Scholars I had the most profound impact upon it. He believed that our sense of
morality is a result of behaviourist conditioning a growing being. His theory was inspired by works
such as Religion of the Semites, The Descent of Man and The Golden Bough. Totem and taboo

Netherland Geography
When most people think of the Netherlands what comes to mind are bland dresses with wooden
shoes, fields of tulips, windmills of all shapes, and the bordering North Sea with hundreds of canals
flowing in and out of the country. Contrary to what most people would believe, Dutch history is
dynamic, dramatic, and in some stages even exciting. With no real solidified date of origin, it is
common knowledge that the country thrived off seaports that bordered the western coasts.
Formerly joined with what we now know as Belgium, the Netherlands was once a fruitful nation in
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, being home to many anglers, ship builders, and sea traders.
Although it was home to many of these people experiencing wealth, this also... Show more content

and twenty two meters or one thousand fifty three feet (Netherlands Geography, September 29,
2015). For thousands of years the Dutch people have struggled with the sea flooding their lands
and taking tens of thousands from the population. Faced with an on going threat that repeated itself
many times of the course of the country s history, the Dutch developed ways to combat this.
Dutchman built raised farmlands and villages with polders and countless amounts of windmills to
try to remove water from the areas below sea level. In the nineteen thirties, the Dutch built a dike,
the Afsluitdiijk, to aid in warding off the sea from flooding their lands (Netherlands Geography,
September 29, 2015). Over the next twenty years, this provided a means to help aid in combating
the floods but in nineteen fifty three, the sea struck again. High waters claimed innocent lives and
raised more questions on how to combat their lengthy coasts effectively. The Dutch had taken
enough tolls from the sea and came up a resolution that is running to this day. Delta Works is a
massive chain of flood protection structures consisting of thirteen dams, including barriers, sluices,

Theseus and Hippolyta s Relationship in Shakespeare s A...
The relationship between Theseus and Hippolyta represents ideal, mature love, and contrasts with
the other lovers relationships with in the play. Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazon, is engaged to
Theseus, Athenian duke. Occasionally, they disagree about certain issues, but due to their mature
personalities, they are able to confront and resolve their problems. They understand the terms of
their relationship, and they know where they stand. Hippolyta is the former leader of the Amazons
a tribe of fierce warrior women whose only connection with men came when it was time to kill or
time breed. She is therefore unmoved by Theseus wooing her. Their relationship matures throughout
the course of the play. At the end of Act 4, as the sun rises,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As stated previously, Hippolyta and Theseus have an interesting relationship because of the fact
that they only appear at the opening and closing of the show. When they appear in Act 4 Scene
1, the reader can tell Hippolyta has become stronger and more independent since the first scene.
In her first line in the scene she states, I was with Hercules and Cadmus once, when in a wood of
Crete they bayed the bear with hounds of Sparta. This proves her power and strength straight
away stating how she was once fighting with the heroes Hercules and Cadmus. I never heard so
musical a discord, such sweet thunder , she goes on to say (IV.i.97 103). Theseus and Hippolyta
stumble upon the four lovers in the forest, and tells the two couples that they shall join in later on
Hippolyta and his wedding. There is no clear conflict so far between Hippolyta and Theseus.
This brings us to their interaction in Act 5. Hippolyta and Theseus begin the scene, where
Hippolyta states that the lovers are speaking of strange things. This leads Theseus to go on and on
about how people in love are crazy. He states that, Lovers and madmen have such seething brains,
such shaping fantasies, that apprehend more than cool reason ever comprehends. The lunatic, the
lover, and the poet are of imagination all compact basically comparing lovers to madman and how
they hallucinate and are ruled by their

The Fall Of Byzantium And The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire was the continuation of the Roman Empire in the Greek speaking, eastern
part of the Mediterranean. Christian in nature, it was perennially at war with the Muslims,
Flourishing during the reign of the Macedonian emperors, its demise was the consequence of
attacks by Seljuk Turks, Crusaders, and Ottoman Turks.
Byzantium was the name of a small, but important town at the Bosphorus, the strait which connects
the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean to the Black Sea, and separates the continents of Europe and
Asia. In Greek times the town was at the frontier between the Greek and the Persian world. In the
fourth century BCE, Alexander the Great made both worlds part of his Hellenistic universe, and
later Byzantium became a town of growing importance within the Roman Empire.
By the third century CE, the Romans had many thousands of miles of border to defend. Growing
pressure caused a crisis, especially in the Danube/Balkan area, where the Goths violated the
borders. In the East, the Sasanian Persians transgressed the frontiers along the Euphrates and
Tigris. The emperor Constantine the Great (reign 306 337 CE) was one of the first to realize the
impossibility of managing the empire s problems from distant Rome.
So, in 330 CE Constantine decided to make Byzantium, which he had refounded a couple of years
before and named after himself, his new residence. Constantinople lay halfway between the Balkan
and the Euphrates, and not too far from the immense wealth and

The wider range of devices has made it easily accessible to access the internet. With more devices
having the ability to access the internet, web browser companies were making it their target to
make sure that their browser was the one being used. They would pay other technology
companies to put their web browser on their devices. For example, Xbox 360 uses Bing as their
main web browser and iPhone uses safari as their main browser. One of the main uses that
people around the world use web browsers is to go on social networking sites, such as Facebook,
Twitter, Myspace, etc. Social networking sites make it easy for people to be able to see what
their friends and family have going on in their lives and it also makes it easy for them to keep in

Extermination Service Research Paper
Making sure your home is free of pests is not only important for its look and function, but also
for your health, so it is essential that you learn the signs you need an extermination service.
While a bug here and there is normal, other signs are evidence that your home is at risk of a
dangerous and unhealthy infestation. Here are 3 signs you need to call an exterminator. Daytime
Pests Most bugs will only come out at night, when your home is most quiet and dark. This is a
great time for these nocturnal creatures to search for food and water, since you, your pets, and
other dangers to the bugs are not in their way. Unfortunately, seeing pests out in your home during

An extermination service can inspect your home for signs of high moisture before giving you
advice on eradicating the problem. This will prevent future problems while treating existing
infestations. Droppings Inside the Home The presence of fecal matter in your home is a sure
sign that you need to hire an exterminator. These droppings are difficult to see. Since they may
resemble different things, you may not realize the dropping are fecal matter from pests.
Droppings may look similar to coffee grounds, black pepper, or small black or brown pellets.
Obviously, the look of the droppings will depend on the specific types of pests inside your
home. However, your exterminator will be able to determine what bugs or rodents are affecting
your home and health by just looking at these droppings. Preventing a pest problem is
imperative for your home s look and your family s health. If you are noticing one or more of the

Mirrors In V For Vendetta
In the 2005 film, V for Vendetta , McTeigue strategically uses mirrors to quietly echo the desire
to expose the truth of a totalitarian government. V, a heroic, masked vigilante, takes it upon
himself to plot the demise of a fascist British government. Evey emerges as V s unlikely

Desert Dolphins Research Paper
On Thursday, June 22, the Blythe Desert Dolphins hosted their second home swim meet, where
they competed against the Brawley Sunstrokers and the Holtville Stingrays at the Palo Verde
High School pool. The Desert Dolphins went head to head with 34 Brawley swimmers and 13
Holtville swimmers. Making a huge splash in the water, tough competitors from the Desert
Dolphins swam hard and did their best to take home well deserved ribbons in each category. With
dynamic strokes and fast speed, the dolphins glided through the water effortlessly, completing 25
and 50 yards per event. Doing the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, some notable
performances from the meet were by: 6 year old Joseph Hawpe taking home 2nd place in the 25

The Importance Of Technology On Human Interaction And...
Up until about twenty or thirty years ago, no one really knew what technology was or how to
use a cell phone, tablet, or computer. The iPhone was not even invented until ten years ago, but
today, technology plays a role in almost every aspect of every person s life. It is just about
impossible to go a day without seeing or using some piece of technology. The extensive amount of
technology available today has really influenced the world and how people live. Unfortunately, that
influence is not entirely positive; it has hindered human interaction and communicationby making
people socially awkward, creating relationship issues, and limiting people s abilities to understand
and use the written language. Because technology hinders human interaction and communication,
people should limit their technological use.
First, the more recent generations of children are growing up with technology available
everywhere, so they are learning from a very young age what technology is and how to use it.
Instead of playing outside with other kids in their neighborhood like their parents did growing
up, most children today play video games on a gaming console, laptop, tablet, or cell phone. This
is isolating children from the real world and inhibiting their ability to learn how to communicate
with others. They are not learning to understand various social clues or even how to have a
conversation face to face, and because of this, most kids may feel anxious or overwhelmed when
they face a social

The Diversity Management Core Competencies Essay
The two core competencies that have decide to write about are individual differences and
leadership. These are two competencies that are extremely important on a daily basis, especially in
the workplace. Individual differences are the variations from different individuals, such as culture,
personality, perception, demographic factors, skills, and attitudes. It is important for individual
differences to be recognized and taken into consideration when it comes to managing any
organization. Leadershipis just as critical because it is the influence within an organization that has
a meaningful impact. Leadership maximizes individuals efforts so key goals can be achieved. It is
important to note that just because you manage an organization, that does not mean that you are
leading the organization. In a way, leadership is also the ability to turn a vision into a reality. I
chose these two diversity managementcore competencies because individual differences are
something you see everywhere, whether it s in an organization, group or team, and leadership is
something that no organization or group can have success without. I also chose leadership
because my supervisor at work is a great leader and she is constantly leading by example, so I can
relate to it personally and it is something I really respect and appreciate.

Complication of Amputation and Edema
Title Here Amputation is the general term describing a condition of disability resulting from the
deliberate surgical removal of a part of the body, a limb, or part of a limb (Bowker Michael,
1992). Limb loss can be a congenital condition, the result of traumatic injury, or a surgical
procedure to treat disease (Clawson, 2009). Clawson posits that the majority of amputations in the
United States are the result of vascular disease caused by diabetes (p. 393). In cases of traumatic
amputation, adjustment and adaptation is more difficult than for people who have had time to
prepare, such as may occur with diabetes. Amputations may be performed at any level in the upper
extremities such as the digits, the hand, or the arm, or in the lower extremities such as the toes, the
foot, or the leg. Appropriate rehabilitation is a vital element to helping people with lower limb
amputation learn to walk and function again and live high quality lives (Hanley et al., 2004).
Literature Review
In the United States, the majority of amputations are performed in order to treat complications of
peripheral vascular disease; the greater numbers involve the lower limbs (Clawson, 2009).
According to Bowker and Michael (1992), disease is the most frequent reason for amputation in
adults age 50 or older, while trauma is the usual cause of amputation in younger individuals.
Marshall and Stansby (2008) include malignant tumor, uncontrollable acute or chronic infection,

Liver Biopsy Essay
Liver biopsy is a technique used to determine the degree of liver diseases.1 It is done when liver
blood tests are abnormal and can be performed by using a small needle to remove a minute part
of the liver tissue.1This is then viewed with the aid of a microscope to find out the cause of the
disease and the length of scarring of the liver. It can be helpful in examining the effectiveness of
several treatments.1
TYPES OF LIVER BIOPSY
There are different ways liver biopsy can be performed. These include the fine needle liver
aspiration, transvenous biopsy, laparoscopic biopsy and percutaneous biopsy.3 Each of the different
methods has advantages and disadvantages.3
Percutaneous Biopsy
This is the usual method, in which a liver tissue is taken by introducing a needle into the liver for
a little period of time.1 The area to be injected is anesthetized and a syringe is inserted swiftly into
and out of the liver.1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps to locate the position of tumour and target the needle s insertion into the liver under
direct supervision.2 This method is allied with small risk of seeding of the needle tract with
cancerous cells and it is commonly a harmless method, even in patients with haemangioma cyst.1
Laparoscopic Biopsy
This is carried out at the point a patient is about to get an abdominal surgery. This allows the
surgeon to examine the liver and take tissue sample as needed.3
Transvenous Biopsy
An interventional radiologist may carry out Transvenous biopsy. 1This normally occurs when the
patient has a major problem with clotting of the blood. 1To do this; a minute tube is introduced
into the neck and radiologically led into the hepatic vein, which makes the liver dry.1A tiny biopsy
syringe is then introduced via the tube and straight into the liver to get a sample of tissue.

Courage And Its Three Factors

Dr. Stelzer
Writing for Wisdom
29 September 2015 Fortitude and Its Three Factors Fortitude is one of the Cardinal Virtues that
have been around since the ancient world before Christ. This virtue is defined by dictionary.com as
mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger, or temptation courageously. I
believe that this definition is adequate but that it does not encompass the essence of fortitude. This
definition does not go deep enough. Fortitude is having the courage, bravery, and strength to face
the pain, suffering, and problems that we go through during the course of our lives. Courage is
one of the key factors of fortitude. It is defined as the quality of mind that enables a person to face
the difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear at thefreedictionary.com. In other words courage is a
state of mind that allows people to be able to face extremely difficult things despite their fear and to
Vaughan 2 work through that fear to keep going to face another day. Soldiers are an example of
people who embody courage. Every day they wake up with the knowledge that they might die and
that they are going to go to battle against people who want to kill them. Many people would buckle

Essay on Just War Doctrine And The Gulf Conflict
Just War Doctrine and the Gulf Conflict
In evaluating US involvement in the Iraq conflict in terms of the Just
War Doctrine jus ad bellum and jus in bello it is my opinion that the US adhered to the Doctrine in
its entirety. The US acted justly both in its entering into the Gulf conflict (jus ad bellum) and in its
conduct while in the conflict (jus in bello). To support this opinion I will individually address the co
parts that constitute the Just War Doctrineand show how US participation in the Iraq war abstained
from violating the tenets of either co part.

Only after all non conflictory options have been exhausted should war be committed to.
As to the question of whether or not the US adhered to the tenet of jus ad bellum the reply is a
resounding yes. The US, under legitimate authority undertook the just cause of alleviating the
plight of a coalition partner.
Saddam Husseins invasion of Kuwait was unjust, or at least in violation of the
Just War Doctrine, and the US sought to reconcile matters. The goal, the removal of Iraqi forces
from Kuwait, was a just one and was pursued proportionally. For nearly six months the US and
other UN/coalition partners made every diplomatic effort to resolve the conflict peacefully.
Secretary
General of UN Security Council Junio Perez de Cuellar made several attempts to hash out a
peaceful plan with Saddam Hussein directly and during this time the
US abstained from any military action. In conjunction with efforts of Perez de
Cuellar, US Secretary of State James Baker spent countless hours negotiating directly with the
Iraqi Foreign Minister in an attempt to bring about a non violent end to the crisis. When all efforts
failed to bring an end to the conflict by peaceful means the UN Security Council drafted Resolution
678 which authorized quot;all means necessary quot; to dislodge Iraqi forces from Kuwait. In one

Student Self-Assessment Reflection

Student Self Assessment Reflection
When creating a self assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self assessment that would
be clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self
assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards reading
, discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self reflection of their learning. The
student was asked to circle thumbs up (always), thumbs middle (sometimes), and thumbs down
(not yet). I prefer using the term not yet because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress versus a
failure. After allowing the student to complete the self assessment privately, I was able to sit down
with them, take notes, and have a mini conference to dive deeper into their responses.
For the statements, I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important, Student N circled
thumbs up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading.
Student N also circled a thumbs up for the statement, I enjoy reading at home. I asked the student
if they read a lot at home and they responded with, I don t really read a lot at home. I like video
games and watching TV. I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they
liked about it. Student N talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By
their response, I could tell that they preferred reading at home when It involved another family
member versus reading on their own. The student also gave thumbs up responses to I think I m a
good reader and I don t have a problem finding books to read. Student N seems confident in their
reading and is aware of what they enjoy reading.
Student N gave a thumbs middle for I am comfortable reading aloud in class. I shared with him
that even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also
shared that sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This
will help me build our classroom culture and reflect on how we respect and respond to peers when
they are reading or if they make a mistake. I want all students to feel comfortable practicing their

Providing Professional And Vocational Education
The second barrier standing in the way of the process of obtaining professional and vocational
education was this: It is physically very difficult to get to school as indicated by our respondents. At
present, in the Russian Federation, only 10 percent of universities provide not only architectural
but, first and foremost, educational and methodological accessibilityof higher education for disabled
students, demonstrating a proper level of professional and pedagogical competence of the teaching

themselves specific features of someone s appearance, communication or movement patterns, but
are results of the lack of public participation, which exacerbate social inequality between people.
The authors of the article argue that one of the ways to overcome the first and second barriers
could be the involvement of team project work of school and university students. In line with this
suggestion, N.A. Lukianova directed a project in autumn 2016, at TPU whereby a team of students
studying Industrial Design completed a portfolio consisting of the results of monitoring and
assessment of the level of accessibility of the architectural environment on campus for students with
disabilities. The portfolio included an interactive map of the campus. The main objectives of this
team student project were formulated as follows. Students had to analyze official documents that
define norms and rules for assessing accessibility and regulate legal relations in the area of
research. Moreover, they had to develop methodological recommendations for assessing the state of

recorded disasters, comprised of man made disasters, such as fires and armed conflict, as well as
natural ones, such as typhoons and flooding, have disrupted as much as 7 million lives in the last
year (Philippine Disaster Report: Disaster Statistics 2010). Statistics like these and events in world

In the wee hours of the morning of April 26, 1986, the town was still and operation of the power
plant was going smoothly. However, at 1:24 AM, 2 explosions suddenly tore through the fourth
unit, sending both debris and radioactive material flying through the air (IAEA, One Decade
After Chernobyl: Summing Up The Consequences of The Accident. 67). The explosions that
occurred that night were not at all planned. They were the results of human error; an experiment
conducted in the fourth unit that had gone horribly wrong. During the conduction of the
experiment, the power was shut too rapidly and pressure began to build, rendering the unit
unstable (Chernobyl Accident 1986). However, there were several other factors that also played
a role in the explosions; specifically, the different defects and flaws in the design of the
Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The plant in Chernobyl was an RBMK model, a military based
type of reactor. However, this model suffered 3 major flaws in its design. Firstly, its cooling
systems were made in such a way that instead of reducing power when water or fuel becomes
scarce, power would increase. The second flaw would be in the control rods; they lacked the speed
necessary to cope with changes in reactivity. Lastly, it was lacking in proper containment systems to
ensure safety within the unit (Henares, jr., n.p.). There was also one flaw that was unique to this
plant which may have led to its demise:

Examples Of Transcendence In The Wanderer And The Seafarer
Godden and Lapidge (180) suggest that loss, suffering and morality are all common tropes of
vernacular poems thus the Lif is lane motif or life is transitory theme permeates old English
poetry. Transience can be defined as the fact of nothing lasting forever or the instability of the
world, whilst transcendence can be defined as one moving beyond or rising above. This essay
will explore the themes of transience and transcendence in the battle poem Brunanbruh and the

the speakers express their sadness and isolation due to their losses and long for the past. Whereas
transcendence is evident as the speakers move beyond their losses and engage psychologically...

The harshness of live out at sea compared to on land reflects the stress The Seafarer faces in
trying to find oneself, whereas life on land can be associated with enclosure which in turn brings
comfort compared to life on the sea, which inflicts discomfort due to the unpredictability of nature.
Waller (27 56) writes about how The Wanderer is strongly focused on the mindas a traumatic place
due to the exile it recounts. Waller suggests that the mind leaves the body in The Seafarer. This
reinforces the idea of the sea as a metaphor for the mind, as it moves away from the body causing
chaos and destruction as one is disconnected. He suggests how during the Anglo Saxon period

store unhappy thoughts, and also refers to lines of the poem where the speaker expresses a strong
desire to keep his thoughts to himself as he struggles with the miserable condition of exile (Waller,

Causes Of The Salem Witch Trials

Classic Literature
2 October 2017
The Salem Witch Trials The Salem witch trials were an important event in American history.
However this affected more than Salem, the ripples from these trials swept throughout the United
States. Over two hundred witches where accused and twenty where killed. Later the judges
admitted that they had been mistaken and tried to make it right but frictions lasted for a long time
after word. (Blumberg, 2007) The main reason behind the Salem Witch Trials was fear. The
location of Salem was a town that was on the edge of the settled colonies. Therefor the settlers of
this area had many reasons to fear death, by starvation, sickness, or being killed and scalped by
the Native American that lived in the forest. The people that lived in constant fear took it out on
the weaker people. These weaker people where; the old, the poor, and women. When the
movement started this fear compelled the people to take action. (Salem Witch Trials, 2011)
These trials started in Salem when some young girls had fits. The doctor said it was because of
witches and the town blamed several women. Titub, one of the accused, was a slave form the
Caribbean. Sarah Good, another, was a homeless beggar. Sarah Osborne, an elderly impoverished
woman, was the third accused. These three where imprisoned and where tried. Two of them,
Osborne and Good, refused to confess, but finally Titub confessed to associating to with the devil.

this is what sparks Robby s behavioral changes. Then John, as an outsider looking in on the
situation moves onto how he views Robby. He understands Robby s behavior is wrong but he

The Garlic Rainforest
Garlic mustard was introduced from Europe either accidently or intentionally as a cooking herb
in the United States. Within a short time span, they can spread from small area by overtaking
large forest area. The seeds of the garlic mustard remain in the soil for five or more years. The
plant identification phase is formed by the leaves being alternative, being triangular to heart
shaped, or being scalloped edged and also giving off an odor of garlic when crushed. This odor
can be used for distinguishing between garlic mustard from native plants such as evergreen violets,
piggy back plant and fringecup plants as well. It will also help to distinguish non native plants such
as the silver dollar plant.
Garlic mustard has two growing seasons. The first growing season is in early March and then the
second growing season occurs in April. The second growing season includes plants that have flower
stalks that range from 12 to 48 inches tall. It is also topped with a cluster of white, four petaled

Meaning Of Plato s Examined Life
Living an examined life means to constantly question our values and beliefs in order to be able
to ideally defend our ideas about how to live our lives. This questioning allows us to have an
open mind to new information that could change the way we look at and live our lives. Practicing
living an examined life comes with various obstacles. We may experience people surrounding us,
for example our neighbors, family members, turn against us, treat us and our ideas as threatening
to the society. Although we may have to face these difficulties, through questioning what we
already know, we will be able to acquire much more information, as well as build new ideas about

Nelson Mandela and His Search for Equality
Mandela was one of the world s most active and influential human activists of the 20th century. In
his fight for equality Nelson Mandela fought through racism, imprisonment, and social inequality all
in an effort for equal rights for African Americans in South Africa His efforts provided hope and
pride for African Americans in South Africathat things could and would get better for them in the
future. Mandela was far from perfect and had many issues he had to deal with publicly and
personally. Mandela struggled with racism and social injustice throughout his life and seemed to
just brush it off. Nelson Mandela overcame social inequality by breaking down the walls of
politics for African Americans, being awarded the Nobel Prize for... Show more content on

The men developed classes that they taught to the other prisoners on subjects such as economics,
politics, and government. ( Magoon 69). When Mandela was in prison with the younger prisoners,
they would tell him of their anger and express it. Mandela was more restrained with his anger.
Mandela touched them in an intellectual way and in a way that could persuade the prisoners not to
use violence, but use their minds to find solutions. Mandela did lots of work to improve the rights
of African Americans in South Africa and was a great influence to other activists like himself.
Aside from the countless organizations Mandela was apart of, he also contributed to his society
and community in other ways as well. As a member of the African National Congressand
Umkhonto we Sizwe, a militant organization he confounded, Mandela protested apartheid. (
Magoon 101). Mandela spent most of his life trying to end the apartheid, but he was also peaceful
and always overcame the disrespects and prison time he was sentenced. He became an important
person, not just to South Africa, but to the whole world. Nelson Mandela was determined to end the
apartheid in South Africa and sought that he would make sure that it was ended. Mandela worked

Policy: Complete College Tennessee Act of 2010
Relevant History
Higher education attainment is one important parameter of national competitiveness in today s
increasing global world. Compare to 1990, today, the rank of U.S. in the world in four year
degree attainment dropped from the 1st to the 12th. Therefore, President Obama set a new goal for
the United States to be first in the world again in college attainment by 2020, in order to remain
global competitive, and fulfill the needs of the growing new jobs which requires more education of
the new economy (The White House, n.d.).
President Obama and Secretary of Education Arne announced the United States Department of
Education s Race to the Top competition, a $4.35 billion incentive program designed to make
drastic reforms and improvements in education and student performance, as a part of the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. After a rigorous competition with other states, Tennessee
emerged as one of the two states awarded Race to the Top funding and will receive $501 million
over the next four years (The Public Agenda for Tennessee Higher Education2010 2015, 2011).

Jonathan Swift s Gulliver in the Land of the Houyhnhnms
In the last voyage in Jonathan Swift s book Gulliver s Travels, A voyage to the country of the
Houyhnhnms, Swift describes his idea of an ideal society. There are many examples provided in
this part of the book to convince the reader that Swift is indeed illustrating his idea of a utopia. By
using horses as the most reasonable creature, Swift not only defaces human society by making a
beast a more powerful creature, but also shows that humans are unable to attain this perfectly
reasonable society.
The society that the Houyhnhnms live in is unlike any society known to man. The Houyhnhnms
are perfect in the way they live their lives; they are always doing what is best for ... Show more

Gulliver explains the idea of war to the Master Houyhnhnm, and it is hard form him to understand
the significance of it and why it would ever be needed. This idea can be shown in the following
quotation: The Houyhnhnms, indeed, appear not to be so well prepared for war, a science to which
they are perfect strangers, and especially against missive weapons, (236). Gulliver tries to justify
the causes of war and attempts to explain this idea to the Houyhnhnms, who can not grasp the
concept of why such a thing would ever be necessary. The Houyhnhnms do not even have a word
to describe such evil, as it is not something that exists in their world. The Master listens to all of
Gulliver s stories and decides that humans are not unlike the Yahoo s after all. The Yahoo s are
characterized by their greed and selfishness throughout the book, and humans are viewed to be of
the same nature.
Swift thinks that the Houyhnhnm society is the ideal society; for this revealed by the way that he
shows Gulliver wanting to become just like them. Swift does not like the European culture which is
very different from that of the Houyhnhnms. Swifts major focus is on reason and thinks that a
completely reasonable society would be a perfect one; which is what the Houyhnhnm society
revolves around. Swift is always pointing out faults in humans and how they are not as perfect as
the Houyhnhnms,

Summary Of A Long Way Gone And The Bite Of The Mango
A Long Way Gone and The Bite of the Mango are two stories written about the same war and its
effects from the two different perspectives of a young boy, Ishmael and a young girl, Mariatu.
Although both novels have their differences, when compared, they come together to create a
wider understanding of how the civil war in Sierra Leone affected all kinds of people in ways
both comparable and dissimilar. In both The Bite of the Mango and A Long Way Gone, main
characters Mariatu and Ishmael are forced to mature at an extreme pace by going through
several, very different experiences caused by the same war. In the majority of The Bite of the
Mango, Mariatu is at the young age of fourteen, but before then, she is just twelve years old,
living in Sierra Leone with her family. When talk about the war begins to spread throughout her
town, the citizens begin a practice put in place in case of a raid by the rebels. The first time it
happened, we abandoned our homes and took nothing with us, hiding in the bush for several
days as we listened to our stomachs moan in hunger (Kamara and McClelland 19). During these
drills, they would hear word spread about rebels nearby, then pack some things in a bag, leave
their homes and hide in bushes for days on end, sometimes starving themselves for fear of
coming out and being raided by the rebels. However, her childhood is ripped away from her
abruptly when she is raped by a close family friend. This is when she faces her first traumatic

Ecological Niche Modeling For The Neotropical Felid...
Ecological niche modeling for the neotropical felid jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaruni)
Abstract
Despite sharing common territory with the well studied ocelot, little research has been done on
the jaguarundi. The preferred habitat of the species is currently unknown as the jaguarundi has
been spotted in a variety of different biomes, though it is thought they may prefer living along
the borders between habitats (Giordano, 2016). Previous spatial analysis has been focused on
phenotypic changes or based on out of date data (da Silva et al., 2016; Wilcox et al., n.d.). Using
336 records gathered from the year 2000 to 2015, this project will identify priority jaguarundi
habitat and which environmental variables have the largest impact on where the species lives.
Priority habitat will be determined using two methods: Mahalanobis D2 using SAS code and
maximum entropy using the program MaxEnt (Duncan and Dunn, 2001; Rotenberry et al., 2006).
Both will be trained on 70% or the data points and then checked against the remaining 30%. The
chosen environmental variables will then be stacked to form a graded map of priority habitat.
This map will then be contrasted with the existing range map and the Bordercats Working Group
map of priority jaguarundi habitat in northern Mexico (Wilcox et al., n.d.). The ranges of the maps
will likely match up relatively well, but the new map will allow for greater specificity in policy
decisions and a better understanding of what environmental

Inaccuracies In Armageddon
The movie Armageddon is a great movie, but contains many scientific inaccuracies. The movie has
many scenes that are set in outer space where many things such as gravity act different. While
watching the movie many things are portrayed to act in space as they do on Earth, which is not
true. Forces that act upon an object in space behave completely different than those that act upon
objects on Earthdue to the differences in atmosphere. There are four specific instances from the
movie where I can prove inaccuracies. In the movie when the crew was on the crater drilling,
nothing was coming out of the hole. When there is drilling taking place the rock or dirt needs to
be displaced into the surrounding area. In the movie nothing came out of the hole during the entire
drilling process. There was almost no gravity on the asteroid to be able to hold the remnants and
dust in the hole being drilled. Therefore, the dust and remnants should be up on the surface of the
asteroid and floating around in space. The way I would fix this inaccuracy of how... Show more

This could never happen because gun powder is used to create an explosion which requires
oxygen. The space shuttle had crash landed, releasing all the oxygen from within the shuttle. In
turn a gun would be rendered useless in space. There is new ammunition than can be fired in
space, but the movie also failed to show that outcome correctly as well. If a gun was shot in the
vacuum of space, the gun and whatever is holding it would be launched backwards just as the
bullet is launched forwards due to there being no gravity to holding anything in place. To fix this
inaccuracy I would show the space vehicle being blown backwards by the gun shot or I would
show the gun on the space vehicle firing blanks because of the gun not being able to fire with no

Alex Rider Book
The book Snakehead by Anthony horowitz is the seventh book in the Alex Rider books . I have
to say that every single one of the Alex Rider books give me a mind blowing snensation. I then
go on to idolize Alex Rider because he everything a teenage boy would want to have acheived.
Since Alex is fourteen years of age, the most youthful spy agent to have served Britain, the
United States and Australia, the book lands into the teenage genre which is why many young
adult boys will love to read about a 14 year old boy conquering bad guys and therefore benefiting
the world. Which is a boyhood dream. So far Snakehead has exceded my excpectations, as well
as underachieved in some areas, so i still have mixed emotions about the book. Which will
probably change as i eventually read on. The Alex Rider book has been an underachiever
because it has been unrealistic. Even though its a 14 year old boy as a spy, there should be some
mild form of reality which will balance the book in between the real and fantasy world. The over
achieveing part was how he has managed to connect the previous book to the current one im
reading now, checking every box and explaining it wih beautiful and precise writing, the
prologue had no flaws and it was just like watching another episode of a seires. All of the Alex
Rider books have not been relatable to my personal life because i have not experienced any losses
or any form of experience with action packed dramas. However as ahuman beign you still are
living many different lives. As myself i live several lives, as a brother, a son, a student and a lot

We Both Reach For The Gun Analysis
In 1975, Chicago became a Broadway hit due to the work of Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred
Ebb. Ebb created the lyrics and also worked with Fosse to write the book, while Kander created
the music. Chicago portrays a theme that celebrity statuses corrupt judicial system. The idea of
celebrity criminals appears throughout the musical as the girls fight for attention in press in
order to help win their trial. Mamma Morton clearly says (33 minutes into the movie) Murder is
a form of entertainment here and the musical proves that statement true. The most dominant
example of celebrity criminals gaining the favor of the public eye is when Roxie makes up her
entire life story. Billy Flynn asks her questions about her past, like where she was born or where
her parents are, only to completely change her answers. The song We Both Reached for the Gun
showcases that Flynn acts more like a publicist than a lawyer. Roxie s entire life was made up and
told to the press so she could appeal innocent and make the public take sympathy on her.... Show

In the start of the musical, all of the attention in the media is on Velma Kelly because she was a
celebrity before she was arrested. The attention then shifts to Roxie and leaves Velma feeling
neglected by the press and Flynn. Velma tries to convince Roxie they need to do a show together,
with the motive that maybe more attention will shift back to her. As soon as there is a new murder
in the city the attention of the media shifts, yet again, and this time away from Roxie and Velma. In
pursuit of attention, Roxie faints and then starts the rumor that she is pregnant in hopes the court
could never kill a pregnant woman. Mamma Morton understands the idea that fame benefits the
girls on trial, so she takes bribes in order to help them get publicity. As a jail supervisor, she is a
representation of the corruption that

  • 2. Analysis Of Disobedience As A Psychological And Moral... The Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem was written by Erich Fromm. The author was a writer in the twentieth century. He did various things and had various jobs. The author talks about the effects of obedience and disobedience. He explains that the world we live in today will be destroyed through disobedience. Fromm uses mythological and religious figures to explain how this theory makes sense. Fromm argues that society goes on without accomplishing freedom through disobedience. Some forms of disobedience are acceptable, but others may be too harsh and unnecessary. Fromm strongly believes that humans should be disobedient and if not they will not be successful in life. The first thing that he talks about is Adam and Eve and how they disobeyed an order, which was when they ate from the forbidden tree. The consequence of disobeying a request made the ties with Earth tear and their eyes to open. Adam and Eve never again observed each other as equivalents, they took a gander at each different as outsiders and additionally their general surroundings. Fromm states that the... This is based off us knowing what is human and inhuman and what is beneficial to life and what destroys or harms life. This is the one that helps us function as humans. The authoritarian conscience is what individual people tell when wanting to make people happy. Fromm referenced Freud in the essay stating that he looked at this type of conscience as Superego which represents the internal commands and prohibitions of father, and it is accepted by the son out of fear. Fromm incorporates many different philosophies, including the rational and irrational authority. The statement ipso facto submission distinguishes irrational from rational ... • 3. Racial Minorities And Its Impact On American Society While Southwestern boasts itself as an extremely progressive, liberal institution. The university does meet many of the requirements to call itself these things it s staff is not very diverse. In just the year 2015 Southwestern granted tenure to the first black male in its history Dr. Reggie Byron. Dr. Bryon became one of just five males of color tenured at Southwestern out of 91 tenured faculty. This represents that the faculty at Southwestern Universitystrongly under represents racial minorities in its tenured staff. This lack of diversity exemplifies a structure of privilege at Southwestern that disproportionately furthers the interests of white students and professors and excludes racial minorities from the same experiences. First, the possible causes for this lack of diversity must be shown as to expose this structure of privilege here at Southwestern. One factor that plays a major role in the hiring of racial minorities especially at positions thought of as very professional, which professors fall under is how society defines professionalism. The way we visual the word professional in American society is very stigmatized and obviously benefits the dominant group. Most of the time we picture a white male body in a suit with short, straight hair and is well groomed. None of these indicators point to a minoritybody as being professional. This becomes a form of colorblind racismwhere the inequality of racial minorities is contributed to things that are not racial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lewis Mere Christianity Lewis discusses the difficult topics of atonement and the Christian life within chapters four and five of Mere Christianity. Lewis maintains his mere Christianity explanation of the topics by not focusing on the multiple theories, by not diving deeper into explanations that will never be fully adequate for Earthly beings, and by focusing on what is true across all denominations of Christianity ; he focuses on what is true for mere Christianity. I find his approach to the doctrines of atonement and the Christian life to be strong. He does not give those who doubt an escape from accepting the truth. Lewis does not focus on the multiple theories and warns the reader against focusing on the theories and not on what all Christians agree upon. He states The central Christian belief is that Christ s death has somehow put us right with Godand given us a fresh start. Theories as to how it did this are another matter. This focus on commonality is evident when mentions his Methodist friend disagreeing to which of the three things that spread the Christ life to us should be emphasized over the others. Lewis instead concentrates on the fact that Christians in general all agree that the three are important. He does not get into a detailed debate on which of the three is most important because he wants to maintain what is true to mere Christianity. Lewis knows that he believes that these three things are important to Christianity but is unable to explain why. By admitting that he cannot explain why, he is allowing the reader to form their own opinion or theory; but he is not allowing room for them not to believe in the three things and in the truth, which is Christianity. Lewis upholds his focus on mere Christianity by not focusing on a certain denomination s beliefs, but he focuses on what is accepted by Christians, of all sects, as a ... • 7. The Nature Of Human Activity Archaeology, the study of the material remains of human activity, depends on certain sources of data and the interpretation thereof. It is not always easy to distinguish explicit expressions of theory within the archaeological reports that follow excavations. However, it is nearly impossible to find empiricism, which is an inherently implicit element of theory and is therefore very difficult to express outright. The most general definition is that empiricism holds that knowledge comes through sense and experience. In archaeology, an additional facet is added to the definition: the ability of items of the archaeological record, artifacts or data, to speak for themselves through sheer scientific inquiry. There are many sub descriptions of empiricism. The two most common are vulgar empiricism, which is a strictly atheoretical perspective, that is to say without theory or even outside of theory, not to be confused with the other, empirical sufficiency, the necessity that a claim be backed by empirical data. Though hidden under other theories, empiricism is within all archaeological processes. It is from these shadows of theory that the archaeological community should bring empiricism into the open and acknowledge it as a necessary part of the archaeological interpretation process. The word empiricism is derived from the ancient Greek word for experience, empeiria. As a theoretical element, in its modern form, it began with the writings of Francis Bacon, Pierre Gassendi, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of these support these religious beliefs, some don t. However it is first appropriate to establish whether or not they are actually making a valid comment on the subject of religion or not. Georg Hegel (1770 1831) was the initial scholar to step foot into this field. He redefined God by creating a character he often named Spirit . He attempted to make God sound theistic by giving God a mind. In some passages, this mind was made to resemble the transcendent mind of Christianity s theistic God, although some interpreters recognised that Spirit s mind was actually nothing but the collective psyche of man. For this reason, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William James pragmatism hypothesis stems from religion s efficacy. If an individual believes in and performs religious activities, and those actions happen to work, then that practice appears the proper choice for said individual. However, if no, there is no rationality to continue with the action. It is possible that James was influenced but Epicurus two sovereign masters . In terms of critiques of w. James, he does not attempt to prove or disprove that God exiles, so his work is ambiguous and leaves his working assumptions unexplored. Also, his work focused solely on mystical experiences and avoided the kind of public religious experiences Swinburne would later consider. And, is pragmatism a good basis for religion? It ignores the religious teaching of the efficacy of suffering to transform the character of the believer. For religion suffering is not the issue but sin. James never defines what he means by God and this casts doubt on the significance of describing mystical experiences. Contrary to what most people would believe, Dutch history is dynamic, dramatic, and in some stages even exciting. With no real solidified date of origin, it is common knowledge that the country thrived off seaports that bordered the western coasts. For thousands of years the Dutch people have struggled with the sea flooding their lands and taking tens of thousands from the population. Faced with an on going threat that repeated itself many times of the course of the country s history, the Dutch developed ways to combat this. Dutchman built raised farmlands and villages with polders and countless amounts of windmills to try to remove water from the areas below sea level. Over the next twenty years, this provided a means to help aid in combating the floods but in nineteen fifty three, the sea struck again. In her first line in the scene she states, I was with Hercules and Cadmus once, when in a wood of Crete they bayed the bear with hounds of Sparta. This proves her power and strength straight away stating how she was once fighting with the heroes Hercules and Cadmus. Christian in nature, it was perennially at war with the Muslims, Flourishing during the reign of the Macedonian emperors, its demise was the consequence of attacks by Seljuk Turks, Crusaders, and Ottoman Turks. Byzantium was the name of a small, but important town at the Bosphorus, the strait which connects the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean to the Black Sea, and separates the continents of Europe and Asia. In Greek times the town was at the frontier between the Greek and the Persian world. In the fourth century BCE, Alexander the Great made both worlds part of his Hellenistic universe, and later Byzantium became a town of growing importance within the Roman Empire. By the third century CE, the Romans had many thousands of miles of border to defend. Growing pressure caused a crisis, especially in the Danube/Balkan area, where the Goths violated the borders. In the East, the Sasanian Persians transgressed the frontiers along the Euphrates and Tigris. The emperor Constantine the Great (reign 306 337 CE) was one of the first to realize the impossibility of managing the empire s problems from distant Rome. So, in 330 CE Constantine decided to make Byzantium, which he had refounded a couple of years before and named after himself, his new residence. Evey emerges as V s unlikely accomplice in his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption. In the way the McTeigue films the scene, it actually appears as if Evey and V sit on opposite sides of the same mirror. • 23. The Importance Of Technology On Human Interaction And... Up until about twenty or thirty years ago, no one really knew what technology was or how to use a cell phone, tablet, or computer. The iPhone was not even invented until ten years ago, but today, technology plays a role in almost every aspect of every person s life. It is just about impossible to go a day without seeing or using some piece of technology. The extensive amount of technology available today has really influenced the world and how people live. Unfortunately, that influence is not entirely positive; it has hindered human interaction and communicationby making people socially awkward, creating relationship issues, and limiting people s abilities to understand and use the written language. Because technology hinders human interaction and communication, people should limit their technological use. First, the more recent generations of children are growing up with technology available everywhere, so they are learning from a very young age what technology is and how to use it. Instead of playing outside with other kids in their neighborhood like their parents did growing up, most children today play video games on a gaming console, laptop, tablet, or cell phone. This is isolating children from the real world and inhibiting their ability to learn how to communicate with others. They are not learning to understand various social clues or even how to have a conversation face to face, and because of this, most kids may feel anxious or overwhelmed when they face a social ... These are two competencies that are extremely important on a daily basis, especially in the workplace. Individual differences are the variations from different individuals, such as culture, personality, perception, demographic factors, skills, and attitudes. It is important for individual differences to be recognized and taken into consideration when it comes to managing any organization. Leadershipis just as critical because it is the influence within an organization that has a meaningful impact. Leadership maximizes individuals efforts so key goals can be achieved. It is important to note that just because you manage an organization, that does not mean that you are leading the organization. In a way, leadership is also the ability to turn a vision into a reality. I chose these two diversity managementcore competencies because individual differences are something you see everywhere, whether it s in an organization, group or team, and leadership is something that no organization or group can have success without. • 26. Complication of Amputation and Edema Title Here Amputation is the general term describing a condition of disability resulting from the deliberate surgical removal of a part of the body, a limb, or part of a limb (Bowker Michael, 1992). Limb loss can be a congenital condition, the result of traumatic injury, or a surgical procedure to treat disease (Clawson, 2009). Clawson posits that the majority of amputations in the United States are the result of vascular disease caused by diabetes (p. 393). In cases of traumatic amputation, adjustment and adaptation is more difficult than for people who have had time to prepare, such as may occur with diabetes. Amputations may be performed at any level in the upper extremities such as the digits, the hand, or the arm, or in the lower extremities such as the toes, the foot, or the leg. Appropriate rehabilitation is a vital element to helping people with lower limb amputation learn to walk and function again and live high quality lives (Hanley et al., 2004). Literature Review In the United States, the majority of amputations are performed in order to treat complications of peripheral vascular disease; the greater numbers involve the lower limbs (Clawson, 2009). According to Bowker and Michael (1992), disease is the most frequent reason for amputation in adults age 50 or older, while trauma is the usual cause of amputation in younger individuals. Saddam Husseins invasion of Kuwait was unjust, or at least in violation of the Just War Doctrine, and the US sought to reconcile matters. The goal, the removal of Iraqi forces from Kuwait, was a just one and was pursued proportionally. In the dialogue Meno, Plato explains the difference, Socrates, is only that he who has knowledge will always be right; but he who has right opinion will sometimes be right, sometimes not. (Meno np). The one who has the right opinion may be answering a question with a guess, rather than make use of a truthful information because such one does not possess the needed knowledge. Sometimes the response to a question through right opinion, if the individual is lucky, may be correct; however, it is not always the case. A person with knowledge, on the other hand, is able to proof his or her answer with facts and true information, which will explain why he or she must be right. Possession of knowledge makes one a better person because one can give true information, direction to those who seek it rather than guess and possibly give false information to the ... Jonathan Swift s Gulliver in the Land of the Houyhnhnms In the last voyage in Jonathan Swift s book Gulliver s Travels, A voyage to the country of the Houyhnhnms, Swift describes his idea of an ideal society. There are many examples provided in this part of the book to convince the reader that Swift is indeed illustrating his idea of a utopia. By using horses as the most reasonable creature, Swift not only defaces human society by making a beast a more powerful creature, but also shows that humans are unable to attain this perfectly reasonable society. The society that the Houyhnhnms live in is unlike any society known to man. The Houyhnhnms are perfect in the way they live their lives; they are always doing what is best for ... This idea can be shown in the following quotation: The Houyhnhnms, indeed, appear not to be so well prepared for war, a science to which they are perfect strangers, and especially against missive weapons, (236). Gulliver tries to justify the causes of war and attempts to explain this idea to the Houyhnhnms, who can not grasp the concept of why such a thing would ever be necessary. The Houyhnhnms do not even have a word to describe such evil, as it is not something that exists in their world. The Master listens to all of Gulliver s stories and decides that humans are not unlike the Yahoo s after all. The Yahoo s are characterized by their greed and selfishness throughout the book, and humans are viewed to be of the same nature. Swift thinks that the Houyhnhnm society is the ideal society; for this revealed by the way that he shows Gulliver wanting to become just like them. Swift does not like the European culture which is very different from that of the Houyhnhnms. Swifts major focus is on reason and thinks that a completely reasonable society would be a perfect one; which is what the Houyhnhnm society revolves around. • 45. Summary Of A Long Way Gone And The Bite Of The Mango A Long Way Gone and The Bite of the Mango are two stories written about the same war and its effects from the two different perspectives of a young boy, Ishmael and a young girl, Mariatu. Although both novels have their differences, when compared, they come together to create a wider understanding of how the civil war in Sierra Leone affected all kinds of people in ways both comparable and dissimilar. In both The Bite of the Mango and A Long Way Gone, main characters Mariatu and Ishmael are forced to mature at an extreme pace by going through several, very different experiences caused by the same war. In the majority of The Bite of the Mango, Mariatu is at the young age of fourteen, but before then, she is just twelve years old, living in Sierra Leone with her family. When talk about the war begins to spread throughout her town, the citizens begin a practice put in place in case of a raid by the rebels. The first time it happened, we abandoned our homes and took nothing with us, hiding in the bush for several days as we listened to our stomachs moan in hunger (Kamara and McClelland 19). During these drills, they would hear word spread about rebels nearby, then pack some things in a bag, leave their homes and hide in bushes for days on end, sometimes starving themselves for fear of coming out and being raided by the rebels. However, her childhood is ripped away from her abruptly when she is raped by a close family friend. This is when she faces her first traumatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Ecological Niche Modeling For The Neotropical Felid... Ecological niche modeling for the neotropical felid jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaruni) Abstract Despite sharing common territory with the well studied ocelot, little research has been done on the jaguarundi. The preferred habitat of the species is currently unknown as the jaguarundi has been spotted in a variety of different biomes, though it is thought they may prefer living along the borders between habitats (Giordano, 2016). Previous spatial analysis has been focused on phenotypic changes or based on out of date data (da Silva et al., 2016; Wilcox et al., n.d.). Using 336 records gathered from the year 2000 to 2015, this project will identify priority jaguarundi habitat and which environmental variables have the largest impact on where the species lives. Priority habitat will be determined using two methods: Mahalanobis D2 using SAS code and maximum entropy using the program MaxEnt (Duncan and Dunn, 2001; Rotenberry et al., 2006). Both will be trained on 70% or the data points and then checked against the remaining 30%. The chosen environmental variables will then be stacked to form a graded map of priority habitat. This map will then be contrasted with the existing range map and the Bordercats Working Group map of priority jaguarundi habitat in northern Mexico (Wilcox et al., n.d.). The ranges of the maps will likely match up relatively well, but the new map will allow for greater specificity in policy decisions and a better understanding of what environmental ... • 47. Inaccuracies In Armageddon The movie Armageddon is a great movie, but contains many scientific inaccuracies. The movie has many scenes that are set in outer space where many things such as gravity act different. While watching the movie many things are portrayed to act in space as they do on Earth, which is not true. Forces that act upon an object in space behave completely different than those that act upon objects on Earthdue to the differences in atmosphere. There are four specific instances from the movie where I can prove inaccuracies. In the movie when the crew was on the crater drilling, nothing was coming out of the hole. When there is drilling taking place the rock or dirt needs to be displaced into the surrounding area. In the movie nothing came out of the hole during the entire drilling process. There was almost no gravity on the asteroid to be able to hold the remnants and dust in the hole being drilled. Therefore, the dust and remnants should be up on the surface of the asteroid and floating around in space. The way I would fix this inaccuracy of how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could never happen because gun powder is used to create an explosion which requires oxygen. The space shuttle had crash landed, releasing all the oxygen from within the shuttle. In turn a gun would be rendered useless in space. There is new ammunition than can be fired in space, but the movie also failed to show that outcome correctly as well. If a gun was shot in the vacuum of space, the gun and whatever is holding it would be launched backwards just as the bullet is launched forwards due to there being no gravity to holding anything in place. To fix this inaccuracy I would show the space vehicle being blown backwards by the gun shot or I would show the gun on the space vehicle firing blanks because of the gun not being able to fire with no ... • 48. Alex Rider Book The book Snakehead by Anthony horowitz is the seventh book in the Alex Rider books . I have to say that every single one of the Alex Rider books give me a mind blowing snensation. I then go on to idolize Alex Rider because he everything a teenage boy would want to have acheived. Since Alex is fourteen years of age, the most youthful spy agent to have served Britain, the United States and Australia, the book lands into the teenage genre which is why many young adult boys will love to read about a 14 year old boy conquering bad guys and therefore benefiting the world. Which is a boyhood dream. So far Snakehead has exceded my excpectations, as well as underachieved in some areas, so i still have mixed emotions about the book. Which will probably change as i eventually read on. The Alex Rider book has been an underachiever because it has been unrealistic. Even though its a 14 year old boy as a spy, there should be some mild form of reality which will balance the book in between the real and fantasy world. The over achieveing part was how he has managed to connect the previous book to the current one im reading now, checking every box and explaining it wih beautiful and precise writing, the prologue had no flaws and it was just like watching another episode of a seires. All of the Alex Rider books have not been relatable to my personal life because i have not experienced any losses or any form of experience with action packed dramas. Ebb created the lyrics and also worked with Fosse to write the book, while Kander created the music. Chicago portrays a theme that celebrity statuses corrupt judicial system. The idea of celebrity criminals appears throughout the musical as the girls fight for attention in press in order to help win their trial. Mamma Morton clearly says (33 minutes into the movie) Murder is a form of entertainment here and the musical proves that statement true. The most dominant example of celebrity criminals gaining the favor of the public eye is when Roxie makes up her entire life story. Billy Flynn asks her questions about her past, like where she was born or where her parents are, only to completely change her answers. The song We Both Reached for the Gun showcases that Flynn acts more like a publicist than a lawyer.
