War I And World War Two
Throughout history there have been an abundance of bloodshed, of hatred, of battles that have taken
the lives of countless people in the past. War is in our blood, it is part of being human; war is what
defines our generations and proves our superiority over fellow humans. War is inevitable with all the
different opinions and regions on our globe, it is a necessary evil in modern wars. World War One
and World War Two had many differences and similarities comparable to the causes of war, warfare,
and the imperialism that took place. In the past, wars were insinuated because of rulers desire to
expand their empires and to gain resources. But in modern wars fought in the West such as the two
World Wars, began for completely different reasons. In 1914 Austria still had a ruling monarchy, and
Emperor Franz Joseph I only had one heir to the throne, who was his nephew, Franz Ferdinand. Like
any monarch, he wanted to preserve his family name and pass down the crown, but all that was
taken away from Emperor Franz on june 28th 1914 when Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian
nationalist while he was in Bosnia, Serbia. This act against Austria sent shockwaves throughout the
country and all of Europe, prompting Austria to give Serbia an ultimatum, which Serbia did not
follow. Austria declared war on Serbia on July 28th 1914, and Serbia's greatest Ally Germany
declared war on Austria shortly thereafter, beginning one the bloodiest wars Europe has ever seen.

Canadian Women's Role In World War Two
How would you come to your country's aid if you were a Canadian woman in the midst of World
War 2? This question was on the minds of many Canadian women. Canada entered World War Two
on September 10th, 1939; at that time, the women stayed home to cook, sew, and nurture their
children. This is the reason that from 1939 to 1940, the largest contribution made by Canadian
women came from volunteer work. During World War Two, when there was a deficiency in the
workforce, the Canadian women became actively involved in supporting the Canadian economy.
August 13th, 1941 marked the formation of the Canadian Women's Army Corps, through which
Canadian women played an increasingly important role in all areas of the Canadian military.

In addition, there were over 1.1 million Canadians who served in World War 2, causing an additional
economic deficit due to the lack of workers. This is reason why Canadian women were required to
step in to fill the vacant positions. Four hundred thousand Canadian women entered the workforce,
taking over the retail, banking, and office jobs that were normally filled by men. In a survey
conducted by the Ministry of Labour , the percentage of women in industrial jobs increased from
19.75 percent to 27 percent. During those years, Canadian women made countless accomplishments
which benefit to the status of Canadian women during World War Two. The salary for women in the
workforce was two thirds less than the pay for men, but in July 1943, there was an outcry led by the
National Council of Women and the pay was raised by 80%. Another accomplishment was that there
were working mothers in need of subsidized nursery care, which is why from 1942–46, the
Dominion–Provincial Wartime Agreement allowed these Canadian women to do so. The Canadian
women entered the workforce to support Canada in time of war but their initiative full action has

World War Two: The Treaty Of Versaille
World War II can easily be identified as one of the pivotal roles that plagued society and the
economy in the search for power throughout the 1930's and a portion of 1940's. World War One did
nothing but create causes for a subsequent World War that became one of the most catastrophic
moments in history. The Treaty of Versaille became a byproduct of World War One that was only
beneficial to the Allied powers and created a vast amount of reparations for Germany, that could not
be paid off effortlessly or immediate. This created an obstacle as the Great Depression was present
in both Europe and the United States and Nazi power was only rising. Fascist powers like Nazis in
Germany and powers of Japan did not only want power, but felt the need ... Show more content on

This period of time produced political and economic issues for several nations, including the United
States and Europe. This put countries in weak positions and this led to governments power thinning.
This new loss of power prompted groups to rise to their own power such as Nazi's in Germany. After
Hitler was suppressed for a long period of time and was residing in jail previous to his dominance
over political parties, the Great Depression provided the perfect opportunity to seize the power he so
desperately wanted and helped the Nazi party suppress the government. Political parties at this point
of the Great Depression were doing the opposite of what they should have been doing which is
working together in an effort to repair these immense economic problems many people were
suffering from. The chancellor at the time, Hindenburg, eventually gave the position to Hitler and
his rising Nazi party. Without the devastating economic problems that were associated with the
Great Depression it would have been even more difficult for Hitler to become such a strong figure at
this point in time. If Hitler would have never come to power a second world war may have never

World War Two And Its Effect On The World
World War Two
World War Two began in 1939 and it when for six year, World War Two lasted until both the
Germans and the Japanese had surrendered in 1945, which was six years after it began. It began in
September 1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany had invaded
Poland. January 1933 Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and he immediately he secretly
built up Germany 's army and weapons. In 1934 he made the size of the army bigger and he began to
build warships and he created a German air force. Britain and France were aware of Germany
preparing for war but they were concerned about the rise of Communism and they thought that if
Germany was stronger, it might prevent the spread of Communism. In 1936 German troops entered
Rhineland, they weren 't very strong at this point and they couldn 't of been defeated easily by
France or England but neither of them were prepared for war. Germany 's next step was to take back
the land that was originally theirs and in March 1938 German troops moved into Austria, the
Austrian leader was forced to hold a vote to see if Austria wanted to be apart of Germany. The
voting results shows that were fixed and 99% of people wanted to be in union with Germany.
Austria looked for help from France and Britain and hitter promised that it was the last of Germany
spreading because he didn 't want war. Hitler lied and in March 1939 invaded Czechoslovakia.

Women During World War Two
"I think a lot of women said, Screw that noise. 'Cause they had a taste of freedom, they had a taste of
making their own money, a taste of spending their own money, making their own decisions. I think
the beginning of the women 's movement had its seeds right there in World War Two." President
Franklin D. Roosevelt's quote clearly illustrates the significance of women in the workforce during
World War Two and the feelings women may have felt. World War II was crucial for women in the
workforce because it was the first time the government needed women in the workforce to replace
men in their jobs, while they were away at war. Although, women had some involvement in the First
Great War, there was no greater demand for women to the workforce then during World War Two.
Although women played a crucial role in the successes of the Second Great War, society had varying
opinions and outlooks revolving around women's involvement in the workforce. Not everyone was
supportive of women's involvement in the labor force because of the stereotypes formed many years
previous to World War II regarding women being simply homemakers and working only in their
homes, or very seldom as secretaries. This view of women caused many problems for women in the
workforce and it continues to be a problem for women today. It is evident while looking at this
particular time in history, that there were varying views of women being a part of the workforce; it
is clear that there are people who thought

A Tale of Two Cities, A Doll's House, Brave New World
J.M. Barrie once wrote, "You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it."
Throughout this semester, the most prevalent subject that has continuously risen from conversation
is that of sacrifice. Through the three books read in class, A Tale of Two Cities, A Doll's House, and
Brave New World, one can learn that sacrifice is not a selfless thing, but a necessary part of life
when attaining something he or she feels is of greater value. In A Tale of Two Cities, written by
Charles Dickens, Sydney Carton is introduced as a lethargic alcoholic that has little interest in
living. As the story progresses, however, Dickens shows Sydney's interest in another character
named Lucie. Later, Sydney even announces his love to her before she weds another man, Charles
Darnay, yet he still continues to speak of the worthlessness of his life as the story continues. It
becomes very obvious to the reader that Lucie is the focal point of Sydney's life, and that he lives
primarily in the light of her happiness. Towards the end of the novel, Darnay is in prison and soon
facing the guillotine. Sydney, who looks stunningly similar to Darnay, takes his place and dies to
ensure Lucie's happiness with Darnay in their future. From the time he announced his love to Lucie
until his death, Sydney showed his passionate interest and care for Lucie while showing apathy for
his own life. It is clear that Sydney valued Lucie and her happiness more than his own life.

Was World War Two Inevitable
Was World War Two inevitable?
The origins of the Second World War have been a contentious issue ever since the conflict ended in
1945. It is a topic which continues to provoke furious debate more than sixty years later. It was
unquestionably Hitler's war and was directly brought about by his actions in the 1930's. However
opinion is divided as to whether his actions were meticulously planned or was he simply an
opportunist who pragmatically took each step as they arose naturally. Marshal Foch described the
Treaty of Versailles "as a 20–year armistice, rather than an enduring peace"
(www.timeshighereducation.co.uk). I will examine the events between the wars to determine if these
events were preordained or if the horrors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another factor is that Hitler never definitively won any election by an overall majority and was in
fact handed the reins of power by short sighted politicians, such as Von Papen, who erroneously
believed him to be a man they could manipulate and control. Hindsight shows us that nothing could
be further from the truth. Once in power he set about removing the terms of the Versailles Treaty,
including full rearmament, restoration of all territories and union with Austria. The German people
were happy with this and as other nations such as Britain believed that Germany was only taking
back what was previously theirs before Versailles this led to no action being taken by the League of
Nations. This failure to take Hitler on would be repeated several times in the years to come. Hitler
wanted to create Lebensraum in the east to unite all German peoples under one Reich. He set his
sights on taking land from Russia and its people, whom he equated with the Jews, would be slaves
to the 'Master Race'.
The Allies were at odds as to how to deal with Germany after the Great War. France wanted to
cripple them so as to never again be in danger of attack, while Britain wanted them to rebuild so
they could trade with them in the future. American President Woodrow Wilson's fourteen points
were used to create the Versailles settlement and as part of the Treaty the League of Nations was
formed to ensure there was no further conflict in Europe.

The Destruction Of World War Two
Introduction As the destruction of World War Two came to an end, a new dawn was coming to the
European continent, and the country of Hungary. It was one of the vulnerable nations easily
overpowered by the Nazi's during the war and fought over in the Battle of Budapest, it's capital city.
After the war, the surviving Jews and gypsies that had been taken to concentration camps were
freed; the people left in the country during the war, such as, Magdolna Tanzer's parents, Istvan and
Magdonla Sztehlo, moved into the devastated capital to find jobs, which was nearly impossible. And
then, the eventual rise of the communist party of Hungary, run in the background by the leaders of
the Soviet Union, and with it the lives of millions changed, including my family's. Communism was
the eventual driving factor Magdolna's family to secretly immigrate to the United States of America.
Communism is a topic that not many people are aware of, or its impact, especially in a small country
like Hungary. Communism did a lot of good things for the country; it helped pull Hungary out of
economic disaster after the war; but, it also made living there, for the long run, extremely tough for
citizens. But the Soviets, although they rebuilt Hungary (relatively), their main intensions appear
more and more selfish as facts come together. The Soviet Union brought help to Hungary in the
short term and the long term effects, although not as beneficial, still caused an improvement as
communism began to gain

Essay about World War Two
World War Two
World War II was a major event in European history. It changed the world forever. The events would
shape Europe until the Second World War. There were severe consequences of this war. These
consequences can be broken into social, political, economic and psychological consequences. WWI
definitely was a pivotal point in history. There were many social effects of World War I. Women
became the majority of the work force. All of the men went to the military so someone had to work
in the factories. These women gained equal pay also in these factories. This was a big step in the
equality of women. The rise of women at home gave birth to flappers. These were sexually

The US did not want this. Wilson devised his 14 Points Plan but was rejected because it went to
easily on the Germans. They ended up not joining the League of Nations. H.C.Lodge fought it. In
article 10, US troops could be dispatched in times of conflict and we did not want to be involved in
the European conflicts. The US became isolationist. The Treaty demilitarized Germany greatly.
They were required to pay full war reparations. The biggest effect of the treaty was that Germany
had to assume full war guilt. German lands were handed over to France and Poland. France obtained
Alsace and Lorraine and the Saar mining region. Poland was given Silesia and the Polish Corridor
was formed. This treaty made Germany hateful towards Europe. By humiliating Germany, it was
almost impossible to avoid future wars. In addition to the humiliation of Germany, the Turkish
Empire was also divided. Britain obtained Iraq and Palestine while France got Lebanon and Syria.
The new controllers of these countries would cause rebellions. The political effects of WWI would
not last long. Because of the harsh treatment of the Germans, a Second World War was not far away.
WWI had many economic consequences as well. First of all, Germany was left in shambles after the
Treaty. They were being forced to pay reparations that they couldn't afford. They paid the first
couple payments before they started to stop. This forced France and Belgium to occupy part of

The Aftermath of World War Two Essay
The Aftermath of World War II Some people argue that faith and reason are two completely
unrelated concepts. This statement could not be further from the truth. Both faith and reason
separate man from animal. Man possesses the ability to think his way through obstacles. When a
situation appears too great for logic, faith brings man to the next level. During World War II faith
and reason worked side by side. Politicians and military leaders employed reason to break down and
destroy the enemy. The soldiers on the front lines and the civilians back home tapped into their faith
to see them through the turmoil around them. Following World War II faith and reason continued
their importance. In order to end the war, the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frisch reported his findings to Niels Bohr; a Nobel Prize winning scientist whom was just leaving
Denmark to lecture at Princeton University. A Hungarian scientist named Leo Szilard was especially
interested in the new experiments involving nuclear fission. He had earlier hypothesized that fission
could produce a "self sustaining chain reaction" which would produce huge amounts of energy.
Szilard, a refugee from Nazism decided that Hitler must not develop this technology. He requested
the help of fellow refugee, Albert Einstein to illustrate his concern to President Truman. Einstein's
letter to Truman said, "This new phenomenon would also lead to the construction of bombs, and it is
conceivable–though much less certain–that extremely powerful bombs of a new type may be
constructed" Thus began what became know as the "Manhattan Project." This was the code name
for the development of the first atomic bomb. (The Fall of Japan, 20) Once this technology was
finally developed, the scientific community was up in arms. On June11, 1945, the Franck Report
was published. A panel of seven scientists at the University of Chicago compiled this document.
They offered the idea of testing the bomb "before the eyes of representatives of all United Nations,
on the desert or a barren island" ("Atomic Bomb: Decision"). On July 3, 1945, Szilard published a
petition against the use of the atomic bomb. He asked President Truman, "to rule that the United

Espionage In World War Two
" If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the results of a hundred battles. If
you know yourself but not your enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you
know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle" (Sun Tzu). Espionage is the
secret gathering of information on rival countries for military purposes. However, espionage in other
countries is considered illegal: Even though it gains valuable information that could protect our
country. Although many spies got caught and was sentence to life in jail or death, the espionage in
World War II was effective because it gave information about the enemies and what there next move
was going to be. Espionage in World War II had three major components which were code breaking,
traditional spying, and deception operations. On July 3–7, 1942, United states and the Empire ...

Deception means something that deceives or is intended to deceive; fraud; artifice. One great
deception plan that led the victory of D–day was the Operation of Bodyguard. Operation Bodyguard
was a deception plan made by the Allies to mislead the German high commander about the time and
place of the invasion (Kagan 13.) The plan was a success in keeping the German 15 Army at Calais;
also, it let the landings in Normandy take Germany by surprise on D–day (Kagan 268.) Shortly after
the Allies ( America and British) paratroopers began to land in Normandy, dummy paratroopers
were dropped from the aircraft. The dummies were made out of burlap, straw, and armed fireworks
that was simulated with gunfire. It made the Germans think that the dummies were the soldiers and
it mislead the German commanders into moving the troops away from the real landing zones (Kagan

multiple reasons like establishing dominance, resources and desire to have more power but what
really starts a war is when there is ethnic conflict. People believe in their cause to protect or defend
their culture which is who they are and likely most people they know. My personal ancestry has
suffered from this and endured through the holocaust. "From Two Worlds As a Keepsake", also

first thing I asked myself when I read this question was what first comes to mind when you think of
war the worst war I know of. I immediately thought of my knowledge of World War Two. Today
that is one of the most brutal things to look back on. Holocaust was incredibly brutal and inhuman.
The things people endured are unimaginable. That was less than on hundred years ago and it doesn't
seem to be improving. I don't think you can ever say war is ever humane. It is people fighting for
what they believe in and doing what they think is right. Most of the time they will kill and do what

It is also known that not everyone will completely agree with each other all the time. That is where I
find Kant saying that we will abolish aggressive war entirely to be untrue. The largest wars
happened after the enlightenment period and with each war the number of deaths grow. No two
people are ever the same. They come from diverse backgrounds and have different experiences. It
doesn't matter if they are from the same town two people are never just alike. This causes problem
and disagreements, which will eventually lead to war. Right now, we are in period with no major
world wars, there are small ones in many nations. Looking from a world stand point this is seen as a
time of peace, but like we talked about in class this correlates with the world right before WWI.
Unfortunately, if history repeats itself within the next 50 years wars will ravage the earth again.
Aside from the two world wars the number of casualties rise over time. The Taiping war in China
from 1851–1864 is where over 22 million people died. That is far more than the thirty years war
from 1618–1648, which was said to have over 5 million deaths. The wars many have little
connection, but prove the point that wars less than 200 years apart and the amount of deaths more
than triples in a third of the time. This is due to rise in total population. Proving my point again the
rise of population only brings more issues and we all know issue lead to war. No matter ow bad we

The Experience of Minorities in World War Two
During World War II many minority groups thought that if they were to participate in the war and
defend the country that they would gain more respect or get a higher class status in society, although
they thought wrong instead they were sort of obligated to defend the country in war without thinking
they were going to get any reward in return. African Americans were one of the few minority groups
that hoped to win a better position in postwar society. But in the end they were very disappointed.
Many blacks were migrated from rural areas into industrial cities which was great for the economy
but not really for the blacks because it created tensions among blacks and whites. In the military
blacks had the most menial assignments, and there were segregated training camps and units for the
blacks. Not only were blacks affected by the war but also Native Americans. There was very little
war work that was available for the tribes. Some young people left the reservations causing the
number of people in tribes decrease. This caused many Indians to come in close contact with white
people, which opened up their eyes to the benefits they would receive if they left the reservations
and lived in a non–Indian world and adjust to American society. But soon after the war there were
fewer jobs available for them so they returned back to their reservations. Then there were many
pressures to eliminate the reservations for good, which would require tribes to reassign themselves
and adjust to

Positive Change In World Through Manipulation of Behavior in B.F Skinner's Waldo Two
B.F. Skinner, in his novel Walden Two, presents many arguments about how he foresees a positive
change in the world through manipulation of behavior on the personal level. Sigmund Freud, in his
works, specifically Civilization and
Its Discontents, presents his view of human nature and what is innately problematic about it. Both
Freud and Skinner agree that human behavior is the result of outside factors that severely hinder the
concept of free will.
Skinner believes that humans, in the correct environment, can live happily, while Freud understands
that humans are destined to live in "some degree of anguish or discontent."

Skinner wants to use this notion to create a world without pain and suffering. In
Walden Two, he systematically describes what conditions are necessary to create a world of
happiness.
Skinner proposes that to create his perfect society, one needs only to come up with the
characteristics of what man should be. Since he can then create any man, he will fill the world with
these perfectly–conditioned people and all will be perfect. Although many of his insights are
problematic at the root level, some of what Skinner proposes is material which should not just be
totally dismissed.
Freud has a much different concept of human existence. He, too, says that people are "formed" out
of experiences and pre–existent conditions.
However, Freud believes that the biggest factor in shaping human behavior is much more personal
and internal. Since everyone experiences things differently, he claims, it is impossible to shape
everyone so that some utopian society will form, as in Skinner's case.
Freud recognizes on one level that there is an innate conflict between the individual and society. So
even at the first level, there is a conflict which will hinder happiness. Freud states that the norms of
society are much too rigorous for the common person because they are in conflict with the inner
desires of the psyche. Keep in mind, this has nothing

Americans freedom, use honorable means, and bring freedom to foreign nations but that's not
exactly what it did. When people think of WW2 as the Good War, many memories of the war are

The Causes And Events Of World War Two
Elijah Walker Professor Jeffrey Cook History 102 22 November 2015 World War Two The causes
and events of World War Two mark an intersection of the mid–twentieth century life in a world
which was very different than our world today. Communications between nations had limited means
by which to convey important messages and actions, relying primarily on telegraph, radio, and
similar systems. In America, the mood was one of isolated attitudes among the vast majority of its
citizens. Americans had suffered many losses in the previous war with Germany and were still
reeling from the effects of the Great Depression as well. The combined effect of these circumstances
led to an overall aversion to getting involved with European conflicts again. All ... Show more

Secret Weapons Of World War Two
Secret Weapons of World War Two In a war of mass destruction and huge weaponry, development
of the next big offensive device was on the minds of all the leaders involved. Many of these
weapons were designed in secret laboratories under the top scientists and physicists in the world.
High emphasis and funding put into these designs, the developments flourished. Some of these
weapons were unbelievable successes, making their way to the battlefield meeting all the
expectations set by their imaginative creators. Others, however, did not make it any further than the
testing unit. Numerous previously unheard of ideas were presented, several being far ahead of their
time. This was cause for some of the weapons failures. Although, these were ... Show more content

During its final testing, however, the Panjandrum nearly killed a filmer of the event, roaring towards
him and shooting rockets in every direction. Due to safety reasons, the project was discontinued
after that final test. Barnes Wallis, also British, designed what was called an Earthquake Bomb. This
was a bomb that fell from high above the earth, penetrated the ground, exploded, and caused an
earthquake. It was used towards the end of the war, on massively reinforced installations,
underground caverns, buried tunnels, and bridges. Some of Wallis' bombs based on the Earthquake
Bomb were used to disable the German V2 factory, bury V3 guns, sink Tirpitz, the battleship, and
other previously undamageable targets. Another British bomb designed by Barnes Wallis was the
Bouncing Bomb. The concept was a bomb that bounced across water to avoid torpedo nets. It was
designed to allow speed and time of detonation to be pre–determined. In May of 1943, a Bouncing
Bomb was used to explode German dams underwater, having a similar effect to Wallis' other design,
the earthquake bomb. Also in the family of bombs developed by Great Britain, was the E61 Anthrax
Bomb. This was a biological bomblet, sub–munition for the E133 cluster bomb. Within in was

Spanish Intervention In World War Two
This investigation has sought to answer the question how decisive was Spanish intervention in world
war two? The evidence and arguments considered has led me to the conclusion that the answer to
this question is that they were not that decisive in terms of the whole of the world war, but rather
decisive in small and localized victories. When looking at the individual factors, militarily the
Spanish intervention was only important in a very tiny scale, the "Nueve" although an important
asset for the liberation of Paris was of not any more importance than the rest of the companies under
Leclerc's command. Most importantly the factor in military intervention which makes it seem as the
Spaniards weren't that decisive was the few numbers. Economically

Should Spies Be Allowed In World War Two?
When people are reminded of World War Two, they usually refer to all the stupendous and
spectacular fights that took place. The thing that people do not know is that those stupendous and
spectacular fights could not have been done without the courage's people who risked their lives to
gather information to give their alliance an upper edge against the opponent. Some examples of
spies are Mata Hari and Major Robin Stephens who risked their lives to gain information on their
enemies. Spies did not only have their minds, but they also have gadgets that aided them to help
gather information. Ultimately, all the outcomes that come from World War Two could not have
been possible if people did not risk their lives to give their side and advantage against their
opponent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spies are people who secretly collect and reports information on the activities. When people think of
spies, they usually think of people in movies like "Mission Impossible", "007", and many more. The
way that people look at spies are from what they see from those movies, the spies being brave,
confident, and always wins in the end. In contrast, the reality is that spies "commit acts of espionage
and subterfuge which were often lonely, frightening and very dangerous." Spies were used during
World War Two to gain information from the enemy and change the balance in favor of the alliance
forces. Female spies in specific were found to be valuable for short–range intelligence work and
were less suspicious that men. One example of spies helping their side was Odette and Simone.
Odette and Simone were two 29–year–old female spies who were decided to get as close as possible
to the town of Granges sur Valonne to get information in Germany's plan. In the end, the
information they collected was timely and useful to the alliance

Conscription in World War Two Essay
The act of applying conscription during the First and Second World Wars have nearly torn Canada
apart. The conscription crisis of 1917 was a treacherous event that occurred during the First World
War. During this time the relations between Quebec and the rest of Canada were in an all time low
in our Canadian history. The Québécois thought conscription was merely unnecessary no matter
what circumstance; while all other Canadians did essentially want conscription occur. The contrast
was inevitably high on the issue of conscription between the Québécois and the rest of Canada thus
creating a solution when conscription was indeed needed was impossible. However while William

It was an outstanding number for a country with such a small population. The large and wide scale
conscription infuriated many of the Québécois ever since they wanted no part the war, which created
a big gap between the French and English relations. The Military Service Act caused Canada to
basically split in half socially. All in all the Military Service Act solely erected more problems than
solutions to others.
Once the Military Service Act was put in place, the problems began that made the Conscription
Crisis of 1917 so significant. Almost immediately Quebec anti–conscription riots broke out all over
Montreal. The province of Quebec was totally opposing the fact of serving in World War One. The
fact that forcing young men to fight and die was thought to be an outrage in Quebec. Never minding
the fact that the Canadian Corps was nearly in Complete English. During the riots nearly forty
percent of the Québécois conscripted men did not report for their duty in the war. The views
French–Canadian's between the majorities of the English Canadian's were basically utterly opposed
to each other causing the relations between the two the lowest ever within Canadian history. In both
the elections of 1917 and 1921 seventy percent of the Quebec Population voted liberal for the loss of
trust from the conservatives due to this event. "The 1917 Election was the most bitter in Canadian
history, viciously fought on both sides"– said

America in World War Two Essay
Leading into the American involvement in World War II, American ideas were harsh. The United
States turned to isolationism instead of involvement. Most Americans opposed taking a role in the
war. Many even opposed any aid to help those countries who were in war. The diplomacy of
isolationism quickly changed after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. America suddenly
was thrown into the warfront. During World War II many ways and ideas of the American culture
changed once again. Now, most Americans supported the war. Technology was advanced

He gave a speech in New York explaining what the committee position was. Lindbergh made it clear
that he believed that it was not our fault that Britain declared war, and we also should not declare
war. He states that America can not win this war for England, no matter how much assistance is
given. Lindbergh also notes that this country was founded on democracy and millions of people
were against the intervention. His speech was made to persuade people stuck in the middle to join
the opposing war side. For Americans, he made many good points on why the U.S. should stay away
from the war. However, his speech was not enough to forgo the entrance of war.
In 1941, the unexpected happened. Japan attacked the United States. More than 2,000 Americans
were killed. After the initial aftershock of the attacks, Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on
Japan. Roosevelt turns the actions of Japan to even more cowardly acts than they actually were. He
makes sure to point out that the path Japan has taken is a deceiving. Since Japan was still included in
talks with the U.S., they showed no threat to America. Although America was not the only nation to
come under attack from Japan, the others were also unknowing. This made it easy for Roosevelt to
stress how bad Japan was in doing these acts. After Roosevelt's speech, it was easy to see that
America was indeed headed for war.

Women in World War Two
Women in World War Two "There was much more to women's work during World War Two than:

a war? In 1939 to 1945 for many women, World War II brought not only sacrifices, but also a new
style of life including more jobs, opportunities and the development of new skills. They were
considered as America's "secret weapon" by the government. Women were who allow getting over

Medical advancements in World War Two
World War II brought death and destruction upon the world. On the other hand, it also opened doors
for pioneering developments that commonly occur during such situations of high adversity. Some of
the most important advancements took place in the field of medicine when the world was embroiled
in World War II. As Dr. Ralph Major states, "An army is a vast laboratory of medical research where
disease and injuries are seen on a far larger scale than in peacetime. Many improvements in the
treatment of infections have come from experiences on the battlefield" (Major 52). Devastation in
the war left countless soldiers and civilians with life threatening injuries and diseases. This

Plasma was used to transfer blood as it served to keep satisfactory blood pressure and supply critical
proteins and globulins (antibodies) to the wounded soldiers (www.usaaf.net/wwii). There were many
uses of Plasma on the battlefield and on the whole, it helped keep a proper balance in the body
which makes it one of the best innovations in medical history. The pressing demand for blood on the
battlefields led to Britain organizing the International Transfusion Association in 1940 which
collected blood (people donated blood) and turned it into blood plasma. This program collected,
processed and transported 14,500 units of plasma to the allied armies and it was all done within five
months (home.att.net/wwii.htm). Dr. Drew was an important member of the group and his scientific
research helped revolutionize blood plasma transfusion so that blood plasma could readily be given
to wounded soldiers on the battlefield, which dramatically improved opportunities to save lives.
Blood plasma could also be dried which made it very easy to transport, pack, store and the soldiers
could also carry it around in their pockets (www.history.amedd/army). As mentioned in the 'United
States office of war' newsreel "Soldiers in Normandy got the best medical care science could offer
and plasma cheated death in cases of many soldiers" (www.concise.britannica.com). Soldiers
received the most modern medical treatments on D–day in Normandy beach and blood transfusion

Ladies In World War Two
World War Two has regularly been depicted as a defining moment in the fight for balance amongst
men and ladies. From the earliest starting point, ladies were continually attempting to pick up status,
regard, and rights in their general public. Preceding World War Two, a lady's part in the public arena
was viewed as somebody who cooked, cleaned, and conceived an offspring. The years amid and
taking after the war denoted a defining moment in the fight for equity. Ladies, for once, were being
viewed as people with abilities outside the kitchen, and we're interestingly allowed to substantiate
themselves. On December 7, 1942, Pearl Harbor was bombarded and FDR proclaimed war. This
denoted the passage of the US into World War Two, a war which has

America And The Two World Wars
Andrew Iarocci and Jeffrey A. Keshen, A Nation in Conflict: Canada and the Two World Wars
(University of Toronto Press, 2015)
Andrew Iarocci and Jeffrey A. Keshen's A Nation in Conflict: Canada and the Two World Wars,
gives us an overview of Canada's contributions to the two World Wars and compares their work
overseas militarily, and the political and societal changes on the home front. The following will
summarize Iarocci and Keshen's book, and will end with a discussion and reflection on its strengths
and weaknesses.
The first chapter, 'Politics and Recruitment,' outlines Canada's involvement in the two World Wars
and compares the different approaches to recruitment of Prime Minster Robert Laird Borden in the
First World War and that of Prime Minster William Lyon Mackenzie King's approach during the
second. The First World War came as a surprise to many Canadians. Throughout English Canada,
Canadians were enthusiastic for the fight and viewed the war as a way to preserve freedom from
German militarism. The patriotic duty of soldiers would demonstrate loyalty to secure a strong voice
for Canada in shaping imperial affairs. The Dominion of Canada entered the war with a small
permanent military force of about 3,000 soldiers and the war had relatively little impact on the daily
lives of Canadians. (7) By October 1914, the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) had 36,267
soldiers overseas – the largest military force ever to depart Canada. (10) With the war brought new

World War Two Poem Annotated
Just by reading the title, we know that this poem is about World War II. The first stanza talks about
high school kids "training for war." Hall is comparing a school sport to fighting in the war which, to
me, is a bit of an exaggeration. You are not very likely to get badly hurt playing a sport and, if you
do, you can usually come back from it fairly well. In war, it is extremely easy to become injured,
and most war injuries can cause you to lose your life. We see an example of this in Stanza II when
Dom dies in battle. During WWII, the military drafted young men to fight in the war. Dom was just
a kid, sent off to fight in the war, and died not even a year after being one of the high schoolers
playing sports. His life had barely started before

World War two was caused by Adolf Hitler's expansionistic actions and the appeasement practiced

assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. However many secondary factors were at play as well.
Austria's attack on the Balkan region. The triple alliance and triple entente in conjunction with secret
alliances, which the League of nations would later dis–condone. Furthermore, "NIMs," nationalism,

Radar In World War Two
One of the most important technological achievements of World War Two was the invention of
radar. For the first time in history, commanders could see hundreds of miles past their own vision
and develop strategies to counter enemy movements. Radar had enormous effects on the outcome of
World War Two and was a determining factor in how naval and aerial strategy developed into what
it is today. Applicable in both offensive and defensive strategies, radar can be used as an early
warning device or as a helping mechanism for aerial bombers and naval ships to find their targets
more effectively. Defensively, radar played a large role against aerial and naval attacks throughout
the war. World War Two was the first time that airplanes were used as ... Show more content on

Suddenly, poor weather conditions and the darkness of night were no longer problems for naval
leaders and fighters. Radar allowed ship commanders and airman to see without light, and be more
precise with their targets. The ability to attack at night was immensely different from previous wars.
Previously, the darkness made fighting impossible due to lack of technology for targeting. With
radar, this was now possible. To attack from the air or by ship at night was a formidable threat to
ships and land bases. Radar was used to locate enemy ships and launch planes accurately from large
distances. Attacking without ever seeing the enemy was also now a normal element to naval
warfare. From using radar to launch planes at an enemy hundreds of miles away to using it to find
the coordinates of enemy ships and using naval gunfire, seeing the actual enemy was no longer
necessary. One instance where radar played a formidable role in an attack was at the battle of
Midway. Midway was the turning point in the war where Japan lost two of their aircraft carriers due
to radar locating their exact locations (Lambert). With this information American forces were able to
send dive bombers to the exact coordinates to destroy the vital Japanese carriers. Also using radar
for reconnaissance was a determining factor for the offensive campaigns. Being able to detect where
the enemy is and where they are going to be made the planning of operations more adjustable to
change. The use of radar required a broad communication chain in order to inform leaders of the
findings. With the increased communications, radar findings could be announced to the whole fleet
and its commanders. Increasing the pre–battle intelligence by increasing communication,
commanders could use the radar finding and direct ships and aircraft

One of the most significant causes of World War Two was the signing of treaty of Versailles when
Germany surrendered. World war one was over. The treaty of Versailles that dealt with Germany
was signed in June 1919. Germany was forced to pay debits or reparations of 6.6 million which go

100,000 men and was forbidden to have tanks. There was six battle ships and no submarines which

A Tale Of Two Cities Or A Tale Of Two Worlds?
Karen Vanderford Ms. Faris Honors English IV 29 May 2015 A Tale of Two Cities or A Tale of Two
Worlds? A person's class status in today's world is based on what one owns and how society views
an individual; nothing else really matters. Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities exemplifies the
importance of social status through the way society views and treats its characters. Lucie Manette,
from England, is the "golden thread" who everyone adores, especially a man named Sydney Carton,
who is known as a failure who drinks all the time. He has a look–alike named Charles Darnay, who
is part of the aristocracy in France, marries Lucie and later has to go on multiple trials for a number
of different reasons. He is found not guilty in each trial until his last trial, where he is proven guilty
of being an aristocrat, causing harm to an innocent man and sentenced to die in the next twenty–four
hours. Hearing this, Lucie panics and starts to imagine life without Charles, which harms her health.
Therefore, Sydney Dalton, who looks identical to Charles and loves Lucie more than life itself,
decides to change places with Charles in Charles' jail cell by drugging Charles and making him
unconscious so he cannot have a say in what happens. Carton faces the guillotine next day by is

World Wars One and Two Essay
The way the First World War ended left embittered and unresolved issues and disputes that would
prove to carry on and would lay the foundation for the second World War two decades later.
The Treaty of Versailles can be said to be the single most important, indirect cause of World War II.
It placed the blame, or "war guilt" solely upon Germany. Secondly, harsh reparations
imposed by the treaty hampered the German economy by causing rapid inflation and caused people
to support parties like the Nazis and the Communists. In Germany, the Treaty forced the country to
limit its armed forces to 100,000, forbade it having an air force, demilitarized the Rhineland, a

But this as a result prompted the Nazi party in to action, which had been losing popularity, to
experiencing an increase in membership. This more than anything contributed to the rise of Hitler in
Germany, and therefore World War II in Europe. Adolf Hitler knew that the German people wanted
change and promised to revitalize the German economy as he knew this was what the people wanted
to hear. And soon the support for the Nazi party grew to an astounding level.
Although anti–semitism played an indirect role in causing World War II, it was important in Adolf
Hitler's rise to power, and since Hitler's program sparked the war in Europe, it could be seen as a
factor leading to war.
However once Hitler gain political power, he started demanding more land and so forth. A major
part of the blame lies with both the British and French. Both these nations repeatedly followed a
policy which not only gave Hitler what he wanted and therefore made him more likely to push for
more, but also gave the Germans time to rearm. Hitler himself said that when he reoccupied the
Rhineland, "that the Army had a standing order to retreat" if the French showed any
resistance. When he invaded Poland, he doubted that France and Britain would intervene any more
decisively than they did for Czechoslovakia, Austria, or to enforce the disarmament provisions of

Causes of World War Two
How far was Adolf Hitler the cause of World War II
World War II (WWII), the deadliest conflict of human history, stems from the following major
causes–Adolf Hitler, appeasement, the Treaty of Versailles, the weakness of the League of Nations,
and world economic depression. All of such factors stand amid heated historical debates between
two sets of conflicting schools of thought–structuralism, otherwise known as functionalism, against
intentionalism, and orthodoxy against revisionism. Although all five reasons possess significant
weight in causing the Second World War, the Adolf Hitler factor exceeds the others in its
importance.
To begin with, Adolf Hitler is considered to be the main factor that led to the outbreak of WWII
firstly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, Taylor supports the structuralist view by stating that evidence from Treaty of Brest
Litovsk and Bethmann–Hollwegg Memorandum shows that Hitler's ideas, such as Lebensraum,
were essentially traditional, which implies that even if Hitler had not led Germany, the same
consequences would have been elicited.
Furthermore, appeasement, a policy based on the assumption that willingness to compromise would
avert conflict by protecting the essential interests of nations, is regarded as another major cause of
WWII. Appeasement was an increasingly prevalent theme in international foreign policies up to
WWII, and Britain, which saw previous successes from Anglo–French and Anglo–Russian colonial
agreements of 1904 and 1907, was most eager in adopting it as a main policy. Moreover, along with
France, Britain was also given justifications to continue the policy of appeasement on the grounds of
the Treaty of Versailles. In 1937 Britain launched a major initiative in which it had hoped to divert
German expansion in Eastern Europe by offering Germany colonies in Africa. However, the
complete failure of this approach was marked by the even accelerated pace of German expansion as
seen in Anschluss and the German destruction of Czechoslovakia in 1939. Following the failure,
Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of Britain, was bitterly accused by not only both left and right
wing British historians and

War I And World War Two

  • 1. War I And World War Two Throughout history there have been an abundance of bloodshed, of hatred, of battles that have taken the lives of countless people in the past. War is in our blood, it is part of being human; war is what defines our generations and proves our superiority over fellow humans. War is inevitable with all the different opinions and regions on our globe, it is a necessary evil in modern wars. World War One and World War Two had many differences and similarities comparable to the causes of war, warfare, and the imperialism that took place. In the past, wars were insinuated because of rulers desire to expand their empires and to gain resources. But in modern wars fought in the West such as the two World Wars, began for completely different reasons. In 1914 Austria still had a ruling monarchy, and Emperor Franz Joseph I only had one heir to the throne, who was his nephew, Franz Ferdinand. Like any monarch, he wanted to preserve his family name and pass down the crown, but all that was taken away from Emperor Franz on june 28th 1914 when Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist while he was in Bosnia, Serbia. This act against Austria sent shockwaves throughout the country and all of Europe, prompting Austria to give Serbia an ultimatum, which Serbia did not follow. Austria declared war on Serbia on July 28th 1914, and Serbia's greatest Ally Germany declared war on Austria shortly thereafter, beginning one the bloodiest wars Europe has ever seen. • 5. Canadian Women's Role In World War Two How would you come to your country's aid if you were a Canadian woman in the midst of World War 2? This question was on the minds of many Canadian women. Canada entered World War Two on September 10th, 1939; at that time, the women stayed home to cook, sew, and nurture their children. This is the reason that from 1939 to 1940, the largest contribution made by Canadian women came from volunteer work. During World War Two, when there was a deficiency in the workforce, the Canadian women became actively involved in supporting the Canadian economy. August 13th, 1941 marked the formation of the Canadian Women's Army Corps, through which Canadian women played an increasingly important role in all areas of the Canadian military. Canadian women made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, there were over 1.1 million Canadians who served in World War 2, causing an additional economic deficit due to the lack of workers. This is reason why Canadian women were required to step in to fill the vacant positions. Four hundred thousand Canadian women entered the workforce, taking over the retail, banking, and office jobs that were normally filled by men. In a survey conducted by the Ministry of Labour , the percentage of women in industrial jobs increased from 19.75 percent to 27 percent. During those years, Canadian women made countless accomplishments which benefit to the status of Canadian women during World War Two. The salary for women in the workforce was two thirds less than the pay for men, but in July 1943, there was an outcry led by the National Council of Women and the pay was raised by 80%. Another accomplishment was that there were working mothers in need of subsidized nursery care, which is why from 1942–46, the Dominion–Provincial Wartime Agreement allowed these Canadian women to do so. The Canadian women entered the workforce to support Canada in time of war but their initiative full action has completely changed the lives of Canadian women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. World War Two: The Treaty Of Versaille World War II can easily be identified as one of the pivotal roles that plagued society and the economy in the search for power throughout the 1930's and a portion of 1940's. World War One did nothing but create causes for a subsequent World War that became one of the most catastrophic moments in history. The Treaty of Versaille became a byproduct of World War One that was only beneficial to the Allied powers and created a vast amount of reparations for Germany, that could not be paid off effortlessly or immediate. This created an obstacle as the Great Depression was present in both Europe and the United States and Nazi power was only rising. Fascist powers like Nazis in Germany and powers of Japan did not only want power, but felt the need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This period of time produced political and economic issues for several nations, including the United States and Europe. This put countries in weak positions and this led to governments power thinning. This new loss of power prompted groups to rise to their own power such as Nazi's in Germany. After Hitler was suppressed for a long period of time and was residing in jail previous to his dominance over political parties, the Great Depression provided the perfect opportunity to seize the power he so desperately wanted and helped the Nazi party suppress the government. Political parties at this point of the Great Depression were doing the opposite of what they should have been doing which is working together in an effort to repair these immense economic problems many people were suffering from. The chancellor at the time, Hindenburg, eventually gave the position to Hitler and his rising Nazi party. Without the devastating economic problems that were associated with the Great Depression it would have been even more difficult for Hitler to become such a strong figure at this point in time. If Hitler would have never come to power a second world war may have never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. World War Two And Its Effect On The World World War Two World War Two began in 1939 and it when for six year, World War Two lasted until both the Germans and the Japanese had surrendered in 1945, which was six years after it began. It began in September 1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany had invaded Poland. January 1933 Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and he immediately he secretly built up Germany 's army and weapons. In 1934 he made the size of the army bigger and he began to build warships and he created a German air force. Britain and France were aware of Germany preparing for war but they were concerned about the rise of Communism and they thought that if Germany was stronger, it might prevent the spread of Communism. In 1936 German troops entered Rhineland, they weren 't very strong at this point and they couldn 't of been defeated easily by France or England but neither of them were prepared for war. Germany 's next step was to take back the land that was originally theirs and in March 1938 German troops moved into Austria, the Austrian leader was forced to hold a vote to see if Austria wanted to be apart of Germany. The voting results shows that were fixed and 99% of people wanted to be in union with Germany. Austria looked for help from France and Britain and hitter promised that it was the last of Germany spreading because he didn 't want war. Hitler lied and in March 1939 invaded Czechoslovakia. • 21. Women During World War Two "I think a lot of women said, Screw that noise. 'Cause they had a taste of freedom, they had a taste of making their own money, a taste of spending their own money, making their own decisions. I think the beginning of the women 's movement had its seeds right there in World War Two." President Franklin D. Roosevelt's quote clearly illustrates the significance of women in the workforce during World War Two and the feelings women may have felt. World War II was crucial for women in the workforce because it was the first time the government needed women in the workforce to replace men in their jobs, while they were away at war. Although, women had some involvement in the First Great War, there was no greater demand for women to the workforce then during World War Two. Although women played a crucial role in the successes of the Second Great War, society had varying opinions and outlooks revolving around women's involvement in the workforce. Not everyone was supportive of women's involvement in the labor force because of the stereotypes formed many years previous to World War II regarding women being simply homemakers and working only in their homes, or very seldom as secretaries. This view of women caused many problems for women in the workforce and it continues to be a problem for women today. It is evident while looking at this particular time in history, that there were varying views of women being a part of the workforce; it is clear that there are people who thought ... • 25. A Tale of Two Cities, A Doll's House, Brave New World J.M. Barrie once wrote, "You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it." Throughout this semester, the most prevalent subject that has continuously risen from conversation is that of sacrifice. Through the three books read in class, A Tale of Two Cities, A Doll's House, and Brave New World, one can learn that sacrifice is not a selfless thing, but a necessary part of life when attaining something he or she feels is of greater value. In A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, Sydney Carton is introduced as a lethargic alcoholic that has little interest in living. As the story progresses, however, Dickens shows Sydney's interest in another character named Lucie. Later, Sydney even announces his love to her before she weds another man, Charles Darnay, yet he still continues to speak of the worthlessness of his life as the story continues. It becomes very obvious to the reader that Lucie is the focal point of Sydney's life, and that he lives primarily in the light of her happiness. Towards the end of the novel, Darnay is in prison and soon facing the guillotine. Sydney, who looks stunningly similar to Darnay, takes his place and dies to ensure Lucie's happiness with Darnay in their future. From the time he announced his love to Lucie until his death, Sydney showed his passionate interest and care for Lucie while showing apathy for his own life. It is clear that Sydney valued Lucie and her happiness more than his own life. Therefore, by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Was World War Two Inevitable Was World War Two inevitable? The origins of the Second World War have been a contentious issue ever since the conflict ended in 1945. It is a topic which continues to provoke furious debate more than sixty years later. It was unquestionably Hitler's war and was directly brought about by his actions in the 1930's. However opinion is divided as to whether his actions were meticulously planned or was he simply an opportunist who pragmatically took each step as they arose naturally. Marshal Foch described the Treaty of Versailles "as a 20–year armistice, rather than an enduring peace" (www.timeshighereducation.co.uk). I will examine the events between the wars to determine if these events were preordained or if the horrors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another factor is that Hitler never definitively won any election by an overall majority and was in fact handed the reins of power by short sighted politicians, such as Von Papen, who erroneously believed him to be a man they could manipulate and control. Hindsight shows us that nothing could be further from the truth. Once in power he set about removing the terms of the Versailles Treaty, including full rearmament, restoration of all territories and union with Austria. The German people were happy with this and as other nations such as Britain believed that Germany was only taking back what was previously theirs before Versailles this led to no action being taken by the League of Nations. This failure to take Hitler on would be repeated several times in the years to come. Hitler wanted to create Lebensraum in the east to unite all German peoples under one Reich. He set his sights on taking land from Russia and its people, whom he equated with the Jews, would be slaves to the 'Master Race'. The Allies were at odds as to how to deal with Germany after the Great War. France wanted to cripple them so as to never again be in danger of attack, while Britain wanted them to rebuild so they could trade with them in the future. American President Woodrow Wilson's fourteen points were used to create the Versailles settlement and as part of the Treaty the League of Nations was formed to ensure there was no further conflict in Europe. ... • 33. The Destruction Of World War Two Introduction As the destruction of World War Two came to an end, a new dawn was coming to the European continent, and the country of Hungary. It was one of the vulnerable nations easily overpowered by the Nazi's during the war and fought over in the Battle of Budapest, it's capital city. After the war, the surviving Jews and gypsies that had been taken to concentration camps were freed; the people left in the country during the war, such as, Magdolna Tanzer's parents, Istvan and Magdonla Sztehlo, moved into the devastated capital to find jobs, which was nearly impossible. And then, the eventual rise of the communist party of Hungary, run in the background by the leaders of the Soviet Union, and with it the lives of millions changed, including my family's. Communism was the eventual driving factor Magdolna's family to secretly immigrate to the United States of America. Communism is a topic that not many people are aware of, or its impact, especially in a small country like Hungary. Communism did a lot of good things for the country; it helped pull Hungary out of economic disaster after the war; but, it also made living there, for the long run, extremely tough for citizens. But the Soviets, although they rebuilt Hungary (relatively), their main intensions appear more and more selfish as facts come together. The Soviet Union brought help to Hungary in the short term and the long term effects, although not as beneficial, still caused an improvement as communism began to gain ... There were severe consequences of this war. These consequences can be broken into social, political, economic and psychological consequences. WWI definitely was a pivotal point in history. There were many social effects of World War I. Women became the majority of the work force. All of the men went to the military so someone had to work in the factories. These women gained equal pay also in these factories. This was a big step in the equality of women. The rise of women at home gave birth to flappers. In article 10, US troops could be dispatched in times of conflict and we did not want to be involved in the European conflicts. The US became isolationist. The Treaty demilitarized Germany greatly. They were required to pay full war reparations. The biggest effect of the treaty was that Germany had to assume full war guilt. German lands were handed over to France and Poland. France obtained Alsace and Lorraine and the Saar mining region. Poland was given Silesia and the Polish Corridor was formed. This treaty made Germany hateful towards Europe. By humiliating Germany, it was almost impossible to avoid future wars. In addition to the humiliation of Germany, the Turkish Empire was also divided. Britain obtained Iraq and Palestine while France got Lebanon and Syria. The new controllers of these countries would cause rebellions. The political effects of WWI would not last long. Because of the harsh treatment of the Germans, a Second World War was not far away. WWI had many economic consequences as well. First of all, Germany was left in shambles after the Treaty. They were being forced to pay reparations that they couldn't afford. They paid the first couple payments before they started to stop. This forced France and Belgium to occupy part of ... This statement could not be further from the truth. Both faith and reason separate man from animal. Man possesses the ability to think his way through obstacles. When a situation appears too great for logic, faith brings man to the next level. During World War II faith and reason worked side by side. Politicians and military leaders employed reason to break down and destroy the enemy. The soldiers on the front lines and the civilians back home tapped into their faith to see them through the turmoil around them. Following World War II faith and reason continued their importance. Frisch reported his findings to Niels Bohr; a Nobel Prize winning scientist whom was just leaving Denmark to lecture at Princeton University. A Hungarian scientist named Leo Szilard was especially interested in the new experiments involving nuclear fission. He had earlier hypothesized that fission could produce a "self sustaining chain reaction" which would produce huge amounts of energy. Szilard, a refugee from Nazism decided that Hitler must not develop this technology. He requested the help of fellow refugee, Albert Einstein to illustrate his concern to President Truman. Einstein's letter to Truman said, "This new phenomenon would also lead to the construction of bombs, and it is conceivable–though much less certain–that extremely powerful bombs of a new type may be constructed" Thus began what became know as the "Manhattan Project." This was the code name for the development of the first atomic bomb. (The Fall of Japan, 20) Once this technology was finally developed, the scientific community was up in arms. On June11, 1945, the Franck Report was published. A panel of seven scientists at the University of Chicago compiled this document. They offered the idea of testing the bomb "before the eyes of representatives of all United Nations, on the desert or a barren island" ("Atomic Bomb: Decision"). On July 3, 1945, Szilard published a petition against the use of the atomic bomb. He asked President Truman, "to rule that the United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you know yourself but not your enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle" (Sun Tzu). Espionage is the secret gathering of information on rival countries for military purposes. However, espionage in other countries is considered illegal: Even though it gains valuable information that could protect our country. Although many spies got caught and was sentence to life in jail or death, the espionage in World War II was effective because it gave information about the enemies and what there next move was going to be. One great deception plan that led the victory of D–day was the Operation of Bodyguard. Operation Bodyguard was a deception plan made by the Allies to mislead the German high commander about the time and place of the invasion (Kagan 13.) The plan was a success in keeping the German 15 Army at Calais; also, it let the landings in Normandy take Germany by surprise on D–day (Kagan 268.) Shortly after the Allies ( America and British) paratroopers began to land in Normandy, dummy paratroopers were dropped from the aircraft. The first thing I asked myself when I read this question was what first comes to mind when you think of war the worst war I know of. I immediately thought of my knowledge of World War Two. Today that is one of the most brutal things to look back on. Holocaust was incredibly brutal and inhuman. The things people endured are unimaginable. That was less than on hundred years ago and it doesn't seem to be improving. I don't think you can ever say war is ever humane. It is people fighting for what they believe in and doing what they think is right. Most of the time they will kill and do what ever is needed to win the argument. I think one thing that ... That is where I find Kant saying that we will abolish aggressive war entirely to be untrue. The largest wars happened after the enlightenment period and with each war the number of deaths grow. No two people are ever the same. They come from diverse backgrounds and have different experiences. It doesn't matter if they are from the same town two people are never just alike. This causes problem and disagreements, which will eventually lead to war. Right now, we are in period with no major world wars, there are small ones in many nations. Looking from a world stand point this is seen as a time of peace, but like we talked about in class this correlates with the world right before WWI. Unfortunately, if history repeats itself within the next 50 years wars will ravage the earth again. Aside from the two world wars the number of casualties rise over time. The Taiping war in China from 1851–1864 is where over 22 million people died. That is far more than the thirty years war from 1618–1648, which was said to have over 5 million deaths. The wars many have little connection, but prove the point that wars less than 200 years apart and the amount of deaths more than triples in a third of the time. This is due to rise in total population. Proving my point again the rise of population only brings more issues and we all know issue lead to war. No matter ow bad we want it world ... The Experience of Minorities in World War Two During World War II many minority groups thought that if they were to participate in the war and defend the country that they would gain more respect or get a higher class status in society, although they thought wrong instead they were sort of obligated to defend the country in war without thinking they were going to get any reward in return. African Americans were one of the few minority groups that hoped to win a better position in postwar society. But in the end they were very disappointed. Many blacks were migrated from rural areas into industrial cities which was great for the economy but not really for the blacks because it created tensions among blacks and whites. In the military blacks had the most menial assignments, and there were segregated training camps and units for the blacks. Not only were blacks affected by the war but also Native Americans. There was very little war work that was available for the tribes. Some young people left the reservations causing the number of people in tribes decrease. This caused many Indians to come in close contact with white people, which opened up their eyes to the benefits they would receive if they left the reservations and lived in a non–Indian world and adjust to American society. But soon after the war there were fewer jobs available for them so they returned back to their reservations. Skinner, in his novel Walden Two, presents many arguments about how he foresees a positive change in the world through manipulation of behavior on the personal level. Sigmund Freud, in his works, specifically Civilization and Its Discontents, presents his view of human nature and what is innately problematic about it. Both Freud and Skinner agree that human behavior is the result of outside factors that severely hinder the concept of free will. Skinner believes that humans, in the correct environment, can live happily, while Freud understands that humans are destined to live in "some degree of anguish or discontent." Skinner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Skinner wants to use this notion to create a world without pain and suffering. In Walden Two, he systematically describes what conditions are necessary to create a world of happiness. Skinner proposes that to create his perfect society, one needs only to come up with the characteristics of what man should be. Since he can then create any man, he will fill the world with these perfectly–conditioned people and all will be perfect. Although many of his insights are problematic at the root level, some of what Skinner proposes is material which should not just be totally dismissed. Freud has a much different concept of human existence. He, too, says that people are "formed" out of experiences and pre–existent conditions. However, Freud believes that the biggest factor in shaping human behavior is much more personal and internal. Since everyone experiences things differently, he claims, it is impossible to shape everyone so that some utopian society will form, as in Skinner's case. Freud recognizes on one level that there is an innate conflict between the individual and society. So even at the first level, there is a conflict which will hinder happiness. Freud states that the norms of society are much too rigorous for the common person because they are in conflict with the inner desires of the psyche. Keep in mind, this has nothing ... One of the Japanese Americans who was forced to move to an internment camp was Gene J Takahashi . Him and his family were thrown into chaos after the Pearl Harbor attack, and given only a week to dispose of all of their material possessions . They were pushed and shoved onto a small packed train, where all the windows were boarded or covered up with blankets so they wouldn't know where they were being taken . It wasn't until 1988, with only two survivors left, when Congress apologized for the internment camps, and provided $20,000 to the surviving victims . On the other hand, it also opened doors for pioneering developments that commonly occur during such situations of high adversity. Some of the most important advancements took place in the field of medicine when the world was embroiled in World War II. There were many uses of Plasma on the battlefield and on the whole, it helped keep a proper balance in the body which makes it one of the best innovations in medical history. The pressing demand for blood on the battlefields led to Britain organizing the International Transfusion Association in 1940 which collected blood (people donated blood) and turned it into blood plasma. This program collected, processed and transported 14,500 units of plasma to the allied armies and it was all done within five months (home.att.net/wwii.htm). Dr. Drew was an important member of the group and his scientific research helped revolutionize blood plasma transfusion so that blood plasma could readily be given to wounded soldiers on the battlefield, which dramatically improved opportunities to save lives. • 109. Ladies In World War Two World War Two has regularly been depicted as a defining moment in the fight for balance amongst men and ladies. From the earliest starting point, ladies were continually attempting to pick up status, regard, and rights in their general public. Preceding World War Two, a lady's part in the public arena was viewed as somebody who cooked, cleaned, and conceived an offspring. The years amid and taking after the war denoted a defining moment in the fight for equity. Ladies, for once, were being viewed as people with abilities outside the kitchen, and we're interestingly allowed to substantiate themselves. On December 7, 1942, Pearl Harbor was bombarded and FDR proclaimed war. This denoted the passage of the US into World War Two, a war which has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 113. America And The Two World Wars Andrew Iarocci and Jeffrey A. Keshen, A Nation in Conflict: Canada and the Two World Wars (University of Toronto Press, 2015) Andrew Iarocci and Jeffrey A. Keshen's A Nation in Conflict: Canada and the Two World Wars, gives us an overview of Canada's contributions to the two World Wars and compares their work overseas militarily, and the political and societal changes on the home front. The following will summarize Iarocci and Keshen's book, and will end with a discussion and reflection on its strengths and weaknesses. The first chapter, 'Politics and Recruitment,' outlines Canada's involvement in the two World Wars and compares the different approaches to recruitment of Prime Minster Robert Laird Borden in the First World War and that of Prime Minster William Lyon Mackenzie King's approach during the second. The First World War came as a surprise to many Canadians. Throughout English Canada, Canadians were enthusiastic for the fight and viewed the war as a way to preserve freedom from German militarism. The patriotic duty of soldiers would demonstrate loyalty to secure a strong voice for Canada in shaping imperial affairs. The Dominion of Canada entered the war with a small permanent military force of about 3,000 soldiers and the war had relatively little impact on the daily lives of Canadians. (7) By October 1914, the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) had 36,267 soldiers overseas – the largest military force ever to depart Canada. (10) With the war brought new legislation ... • 117. World War Two Poem Annotated Just by reading the title, we know that this poem is about World War II. The first stanza talks about high school kids "training for war." Hall is comparing a school sport to fighting in the war which, to me, is a bit of an exaggeration. You are not very likely to get badly hurt playing a sport and, if you do, you can usually come back from it fairly well. In war, it is extremely easy to become injured, and most war injuries can cause you to lose your life. We see an example of this in Stanza II when Dom dies in battle. During WWII, the military drafted young men to fight in the war. Dom was just a kid, sent off to fight in the war, and died not even a year after being one of the high schoolers playing sports. His life had barely started before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 125. Cause Of World War Two World War two was caused by Adolf Hitler's expansionistic actions and the appeasement practiced by Chamberlain. Differing from the individualistic WW2, World War one was caused by the alliance system and Schlieffen plan of Germany. Firstly, World War one was caused, directly at least, by the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. However many secondary factors were at play as well. Austria's attack on the Balkan region. The triple alliance and triple entente in conjunction with secret alliances, which the League of nations would later dis–condone. Furthermore, "NIMs," nationalism, imperialism, and militarism played a major role in preparing the European nations for war, or at the least building tensions preemptively. Additionally the ... • 129. Radar In World War Two One of the most important technological achievements of World War Two was the invention of radar. For the first time in history, commanders could see hundreds of miles past their own vision and develop strategies to counter enemy movements. Radar had enormous effects on the outcome of World War Two and was a determining factor in how naval and aerial strategy developed into what it is today. Applicable in both offensive and defensive strategies, radar can be used as an early warning device or as a helping mechanism for aerial bombers and naval ships to find their targets more effectively. Defensively, radar played a large role against aerial and naval attacks throughout the war. World War Two was the first time that airplanes were used as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suddenly, poor weather conditions and the darkness of night were no longer problems for naval leaders and fighters. Radar allowed ship commanders and airman to see without light, and be more precise with their targets. The ability to attack at night was immensely different from previous wars. Previously, the darkness made fighting impossible due to lack of technology for targeting. With radar, this was now possible. To attack from the air or by ship at night was a formidable threat to ships and land bases. Radar was used to locate enemy ships and launch planes accurately from large distances. Attacking without ever seeing the enemy was also now a normal element to naval warfare. From using radar to launch planes at an enemy hundreds of miles away to using it to find the coordinates of enemy ships and using naval gunfire, seeing the actual enemy was no longer necessary. One instance where radar played a formidable role in an attack was at the battle of Midway. Midway was the turning point in the war where Japan lost two of their aircraft carriers due to radar locating their exact locations (Lambert). With this information American forces were able to send dive bombers to the exact coordinates to destroy the vital Japanese carriers. Also using radar for reconnaissance was a determining factor for the offensive campaigns. Being able to detect where the enemy is and where they are going to be made the planning of operations more adjustable to change. The use of radar required a broad communication chain in order to inform leaders of the findings. With the increased communications, radar findings could be announced to the whole fleet and its commanders. Increasing the pre–battle intelligence by increasing communication, commanders could use the radar finding and direct ships and aircraft ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A person's class status in today's world is based on what one owns and how society views an individual; nothing else really matters. Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities exemplifies the importance of social status through the way society views and treats its characters. Lucie Manette, from England, is the "golden thread" who everyone adores, especially a man named Sydney Carton, who is known as a failure who drinks all the time. He has a look–alike named Charles Darnay, who is part of the aristocracy in France, marries Lucie and later has to go on multiple trials for a number of different reasons. He is found not guilty in each trial until his last trial, where he is proven guilty of being an aristocrat, causing harm to an innocent man and sentenced to die in the next twenty–four hours. Hearing this, Lucie panics and starts to imagine life without Charles, which harms her health. Therefore, Sydney Dalton, who looks identical to Charles and loves Lucie more than life itself, decides to change places with Charles in Charles' jail cell by drugging Charles and making him unconscious so he cannot have a say in what happens. Carton faces the guillotine next day by is beheaded because he is supposed to be Charles but no one knew that until the switch was done and at this point, there was no going back. World Wars One and Two Essay The way the First World War ended left embittered and unresolved issues and disputes that would prove to carry on and would lay the foundation for the second World War two decades later. The Treaty of Versailles can be said to be the single most important, indirect cause of World War II. It placed the blame, or "war guilt" solely upon Germany. Secondly, harsh reparations imposed by the treaty hampered the German economy by causing rapid inflation and caused people to support parties like the Nazis and the Communists. In Germany, the Treaty forced the country to limit its armed forces to 100,000, forbade it having an air force, demilitarized the Rhineland, a region in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this as a result prompted the Nazi party in to action, which had been losing popularity, to experiencing an increase in membership. This more than anything contributed to the rise of Hitler in Germany, and therefore World War II in Europe. Adolf Hitler knew that the German people wanted change and promised to revitalize the German economy as he knew this was what the people wanted to hear. And soon the support for the Nazi party grew to an astounding level. Although anti–semitism played an indirect role in causing World War II, it was important in Adolf Hitler's rise to power, and since Hitler's program sparked the war in Europe, it could be seen as a factor leading to war. However once Hitler gain political power, he started demanding more land and so forth. A major part of the blame lies with both the British and French. Both these nations repeatedly followed a policy which not only gave Hitler what he wanted and therefore made him more likely to push for more, but also gave the Germans time to rearm. Hitler himself said that when he reoccupied the Rhineland, "that the Army had a standing order to retreat" if the French showed any resistance. When he invaded Poland, he doubted that France and Britain would intervene any more decisively than they did for Czechoslovakia, Austria, or to enforce the disarmament provisions of the ... • 153. Causes of World War Two How far was Adolf Hitler the cause of World War II World War II (WWII), the deadliest conflict of human history, stems from the following major causes–Adolf Hitler, appeasement, the Treaty of Versailles, the weakness of the League of Nations, and world economic depression. All of such factors stand amid heated historical debates between two sets of conflicting schools of thought–structuralism, otherwise known as functionalism, against intentionalism, and orthodoxy against revisionism. Although all five reasons possess significant weight in causing the Second World War, the Adolf Hitler factor exceeds the others in its importance. To begin with, Adolf Hitler is considered to be the main factor that led to the outbreak of WWII firstly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, Taylor supports the structuralist view by stating that evidence from Treaty of Brest Litovsk and Bethmann–Hollwegg Memorandum shows that Hitler's ideas, such as Lebensraum, were essentially traditional, which implies that even if Hitler had not led Germany, the same consequences would have been elicited. Furthermore, appeasement, a policy based on the assumption that willingness to compromise would avert conflict by protecting the essential interests of nations, is regarded as another major cause of WWII. Appeasement was an increasingly prevalent theme in international foreign policies up to WWII, and Britain, which saw previous successes from Anglo–French and Anglo–Russian colonial agreements of 1904 and 1907, was most eager in adopting it as a main policy. Moreover, along with France, Britain was also given justifications to continue the policy of appeasement on the grounds of the Treaty of Versailles. In 1937 Britain launched a major initiative in which it had hoped to divert German expansion in Eastern Europe by offering Germany colonies in Africa. However, the complete failure of this approach was marked by the even accelerated pace of German expansion as seen in Anschluss and the German destruction of Czechoslovakia in 1939. Following the failure, Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of Britain, was bitterly accused by not only both left and right wing British historians and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
