Vitamin E is an essential fat-soluble vitamin for dogs that was discovered in 1922. It exists in two forms, tocopherols and tocotrienols, with alpha-tocopherol being the most common and biologically active form. Vitamin E is absorbed in the small intestine and transported through the body via chylomicrons and lipoproteins to be stored mainly in the liver and adipose tissue. It supports skin and coat health, the immune system, fertility, muscle function, and wound healing while also protecting cells from free radical damage and improving cardiovascular health. A vitamin E deficiency in dogs can lead to muscle degeneration and retinal issues.
