Influence Of The Modern Sports Industry
Different societies have different standards dictating how people should dress, eat, and how their
bodies should look. Recently, in developed countries, societies promote enhancement supplements and
medications in their standards for what its members should aspire to use. Because of this, men face
increasingly more pressure to take these products so they can comply with social norms. The modern
sports industry shows this increasing trend in male consumption of supplements. In 2013, 45% of
collegiate male athletes in a study reported using some sort of nutritional supplement during their
training (Darvishi). This supports the idea that in modern American advertisements, advisors place
increasingly more pressure on men to take synthesized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advertisers intentionally include a bland background so viewers focus on the only other figure
present in the photograph: a lone man wearing gym clothes. The advertisement does not show the man
s face, but does display his physique clearly. The man is large and muscular, and he appears to flex his
muscles to show their outlines clearly. The absence of the man s face in the image shows how the
advertisers portray the man s physique as the primary focus of the image by stripping the man of a
unique identity, therefore mystifying him. By making his identity irrelevant, the advertisement seeks
to present the man as the standard for physical perfection that all men should seek to achieve. The
words used in the advertisement also aim to present the man as a dominant figure. The advertisers
intend for two words to stand out. They bold, underline, and completely capitalize the words BOSS IT
in the upper right hand dominant corner of the advertisement. By telling men to boss their workout,
the advertisers appeal to the traditional image of the dominant male figure. The advertisement tells
men to Walk in. Tear it up. Walk away. These words further imply that men should dominate their
work out, however, by also telling them to simply walk away, the advertisers imply that the
supplement will allow men to tear up their workout in a casual and effortless manner. This will allow
men to walk away in the same way the man shown in the advertisement walks away, without even

Language As A Bilingual Language
I have always been intrigued by the concept of language; whether it be from how languages
originated, how people learn them, or how the language creates words different from the pre existing
languages, I draw an interest to all of it. I specifically remember when I was younger, trying to create
a new language of my own. In today s world, there are more than 2,000 languages spoken around the
world. Some of those languages are only spoken by a single village while others are spoken by
billions of people. Those who speak the less popular languages are most likely fluent in another major
one. English is one of those major languages, although it is not the most spoken language in the world,
it is a competitor; however, it is many people s choice of a second language, and spoken regularly in
many foreign countries. Many schools throughout the world make it a requirement for their students to
practice another language while enrolled. Unfortunately, after graduation, students never retain the
language, it was simply stored in their short term memory. Becoming fluent in another language is not
only alluring, but it is very beneficial to one s self, and the global community. Being bilingual is
proven to give a leg up to people in the business world, improve one s mental health in many ways,
and additionally advance other aspects in one s life not ordinarily associated with the learning of a
new language. Why is it beneficial for native English speakers to learn another language?

Faulkner s Light in August
Light in August Hightower s Epiphany
Most criticism concerning Faulkner s novel, Light in August, usually considers the character of Joe
Christmas. Christmas certainly deserves the attention paid to him, but too often this attention obscures
other noteworthy elements of the complex novel. Often lost in the shuffle is another character, the
Reverend Gail Hightower, who deserves greater scrutiny. A closer examination of Hightower reveals
Faulkner s deep concern for the South and the collective suffering of its people. Hightower, through
his own personal epiphany, transcends the curse under which the South has suffered for so long.
Of course, the central character of Joe Christmas has dominated criticism of the ... Show more content

Which to me is the worst possible condition a man could find himself in not knowing what he is and
to know that he will never know. (FIU 72)
According to Faulkner, then, even Christmas does not know his heritage for sure, and that lack of
knowledge apparently condemns him to a racial limbo from which there is no escape.
Actually, Christmas is free to define himself as he sees fit. Even if he does possess Negro blood, it is
not enough to prevent him from passing as a white man, and most characters who know him believe
only that perhaps his father was a Mexican. Christmas passes as a white man by posing as a black one.
James Snead remarks, Joe Christmas hides his blackness behind the screen of a negro s job : He
pretends to slave like a negro so no one will think he is one (84). By accepting a menial labor job at a
planing mill and living in a shack, he plays the role of a white man playing the role of a black man.
Only when he confesses his suspicions do people see him as black: I think I got some nigger blood in
me. . . . I don t know. I believe I have (LIA 216). But this confession hardly amounts to a definitive
statement.
By failing to provide an ultimate answer to the question of Christmas blood, Faulkner achieves what
John L. Longley, Jr. considers to be one of [his] clearest strokes of genius (166). We all must confront
our own racial feelings when we try to force Christmas into a category, and his

Bosnian Genocide Essay
In 1992 when Bosnia declared its independence from the Yugoslav, Orthodox Christian Serbians were
losing power to the Muslim Bosniaks. The Bosnian Serb forces did not want to be outnumbered by
Bosniaks at all. Especially when it came to things like politics. The Serbs that lived in Bosnia
Herzegovina felt threatened by the numerous amount of Muslim power, so they decided to
exterminate them. This resulted in a genocide. A genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of
people. This genocide is known as the Bosnia and Herzegovina Genocide.
The Bosnian and Herzegovinian Genocide took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, (Bosnia), and
Serbia. Before Bosnia became independent, they started to elect their first president. At the time there

They organized their genocide by state, (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Their goal was to exterminate all
Bosniaks, (Muslim people who lived in Bosnia), and Croats, (Croatians who lived in Bosnia). That
made the Bosniaks and Croats the victim. They were being targeted because ever since Bosnia broke
away from Yugoslavia, Serbians had less power.
Bosnia breaking away from Yugoslavia is the catalyst for this genocide. When they broke away, the
Serbs living in Bosnia didn t have the population power, political power, or religious power. They
figured that if they just took out all of the Bosniaks, (who had the majority power at the time), then
they would be better off. So, that s what they did. They began their extermination process in early
May of 1992 by attacking a Bosniak dominated town.
Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of it. The Serbians quickly started to gain speed in their
extermination process. The whole process of wiping out all Bosniaks and Croats was expected to take
about five years. But, in 1994 NATO forces initiated air strikes against the Bosnian Serbs to stop the
murders/ attacks. In December of 1955 the conflict was ended and there was a force created to
maintain ceasefire. Over the course of those three years Bosniaks and Croats were tortured, killed, and

Edward Weston s Influence On The World Of Photography Essay
Edward Weston was seen as one of the leading pioneers of photography in the 20th century. His
contribution to the world of photography is one that was able to bring new possibilities to the field.
His style of photography was unique to him at the time and offered the art community very original
works of art. This style of Weston s was one of high resolution and clarity, though it did not come until
midway in his career. Weston would soon collaborate with other artists that shared his tastes to form
the f/64 group. Before becoming the world renowned photographer, Weston started as a humble and
novice photographer (Edward Weston).
As a matter of fact, Weston was interested in photography from an early age. Consequently on his
16th birthday, Weston s father gave him a Kodak Bulls Eye number two camera. This was Weston s
first camera which he began to use to take pictures of his aunt s farm and Chicago parks. His photo s
were average for the time and even landed him an exhibit in the Chicago Art Institute at the age of 17.
Weston then traveled to California and became a surveyor of the land, which helped him gain an
interest in the state and also the landscape. After working in California for some time, Weston made
his way back to Illinois to attend the Illinois College of Photography. This did not keep Weston away
from California for very long though. Within six months, Weston returned to California and created
the Camera Pictorialists of Los Angeles in 1909 (Edward

Native American Code Talker Essay
A. Plan of the Investigation This investigation evaluates to what extent did the Navajo code talkers aid
the American military during WWII? In order to assess the extent to which these soldiers assisted the
American military during WWII, this investigation focuses on their involvement in transmitting
military messages in their native tongue, and the events surrounding these transmissions. In addition,
the contribution of other Native American code talkers is considered and compared to that of the
Navajos specifically within the investigation. B. Summary of Evidence Native American code

For instance, in response to the 800 flawless messages transmitted by Navajos at Iwo Jima, Major
Howard Connor who was the signal officer of the Navajos at Iwo Jima said, Were it not for the
Navajos, the Marines would never have taken Iwo Jima ( Navajo Unbreakable Code ). The third
Amphibious Corps was thought to have been the ones to report that, during Guam and other missions,
the Navajo were considered indispensable for the rapid transmission of classified dispatches (Paul,
69). Besides transmitting vital information, the Code Talkers sometimes transmitted dummy messages
(Takaki, 52). These false messages drove the enemy crazy, trying to decipher them, but getting
nowhere (Takaki, 52). Meadows even puts forth the idea that if the Navajo and Comanche Indian
communication units had been expanded, the war may have even been shortened (Meadows,
Comanche , 50). As stated by Campbell, In the year 2000, Federal legislation was enacted to award
Congressional Gold Medals to the Navajo code talkers for their contribution to America s victory over
the Japanese Empire in World War II (qtd. in Hearing ). According to Tim Johnson, There is no doubt
that the bravery and the courage of the Navajo code talkers helped to make the United States the free

Separation Of Powers, Popular Sovereignty And Federalism
There is 5 Principles of democracy which are very important but there are 3 principles that i think are
the most important. The three i think are the most important are Separation of Powers, Popular
sovereignty and federalism. These stand out to me because i feel like they re the most of about what
goes on in the world today. Separation of powers is a very important part of society today. The three
different powers is the Judicial branch, Legislative branch and the Executive branch. Those are also
known as the 3 branches of government. Each branch has a different power and certain types of laws
and rules they can enforce. They have separation of powers sdso that one branch does not have to

Food Stamp History
A History of Food Stamps
The primary goal of food stamps is to increase food security and reduce national hunger in the United
States. Each year, out of the one trillion dollars that the United States Government has to spend on
assistance and welfare, food stamps takes up about 70 billion dollars (The History of NAP). The
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or previously known as the Food Stamp Program)
started through the Agriculture Adjustment Act (AAA) and since then has spread around its influence
and authority and grown in size (Mary Clare Jalonick Associated). Throughout the past 80 years, the
Food Stamp Program has been modified and reformatted, and today it aids more than 44 million
Americans (Rude, Emelyn). The Food Stamp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson instated the Food Stamp Act which made the Food Stamp Program permanent. Congress saw
this as an opportunity to strengthen the agricultural economy; to help achieve a fuller and more
effective use of food abundances; to provide for improved levels of nutrition among low income
households through a cooperative Federal State program of food assistance to be operated through
normal channels of trade (Puro, Steven). In order for this program to function Congress would
distribute out paper food stamps each month through a welfare office to those personnel or families
who made the poverty line or below. Right after the Food Stamp Act of 1964 was adopted by
Congress and the United States, many legislators have debated funding, eligibility standards,
accessibility, and accountability (Food Distribution). However, this program did lead to a boost in the
economy. Not only did low income families get the nutritional supplements that they needed, but it
also caused food stamps to be cash equivalent to actual money which let customers buy other grocery
items that were not part of the food program which expanded options (Rude,

Sexuality And Selection Research Paper
Sexuality Selection
In order to create the next generation of a population, survival is not enough. Individuals must also
reproduce. Around 90% of species reproduce sexually, which means male and female of a specie
match. Darwin defined this as sexual selection.
Darwin stated that sexual selection worked mainly in two ways: COMBAT OR DISPLAY, the first
process is about members of the same sex fighting one another to attract the other sex attention; the
second process, which is called display, is about members of one sex, choosing members from the
other sex.
Combat leads to larger and stronger males, males that outstand from the rest of the population. This
also apply to Human. Darwin states that mate selection is of women by men, not the

Equal Citizen And Gender Status
equal citizen. This approach requires an expansion of the meaning of equality to include all choices
people make in their lives. If we look at it in this way, equality means the right not to have one s life
split between career and family. It also means the right to control one s own social roles. From an
inequality perspective, the test in any case would be whether the policy or practice in question
integrally contributes to the maintenance of an underclass or a deprived position because of gender
status. If the law continues to contribute to the repression of women, the court must then deliberate if
the law has a substantial impact on perpetuating the inequality of women. If so, the court must use the
strict scrutiny analysis to see if the law is reasonable in having a compelling state interest. Therefore,
the inequality test moves away from the current equal protection analysis in that is does not need to
have a link between similarly situated classes of people. This difference is important because laws that
govern reproductive biology rule ways in which women and men are not similarly situated. Moreover,
this test demands a strict security analysis of cases that perpetuate the oppression of women, rather
than the intermediate scrutiny analysis, which is, applied to all gender cases. Therefore, things that
make men and women different like pregnancy or sexuality would automatically prompt strict
scrutiny. From this new equality perspective then, the abortion question

The Opposites In Alison s Fun Home
The Opposites in a mirror Fun Home isn t merely a story of Allison Bechdel and her father, but a story
of the change in her thoughts about how the two of them were related. Over the course of the novel,
Her thoughts of her father change, from thinking each other as total opposites, from their habits,
personality, and sexuality, to accepting that these differences are really what make them the same. On
page 15, Bechdel explicitly states the numerous ways in which her and her father are different. She
does this by giving examples of classic opposites in society, like Spartan to my Father s Athenian.
Modern to his victorian, Butch to his Nelly, Utilitarian to his Aesthete .(15) These examples are laid
along illustrations of her and her father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alison compares her father to The grimy deer hunters (96) and stated that her father was a big sissy
(97). Meanwhile, she notes how she was nicknamed Butch, and The opposite of sissy (97). The clear
indication that she gives in this comparison is that she is more manly than her father. However, in the
view of sexuality and gender, this holds Alison and her father as equals. Alison talks about herself
defying gender stereotypes even as a young child. Alison hated flowers, liked baseball, and mentioned
that she had become a connoisseur of masculinity at an early age (95) Meanwhile, her father loved
having all sorts of plants around the house, would rather garden than play baseball, and clearly was
not the image of masculinity that Alison wanted her father to be. This contrast is, again, what brings
Alison and her father closer together. They both defy their gender stereotypes. The only true difference
is that that Alison is female, and her father male. This similarity is furthered when Bechdel tells of
both her and her father s sexuality. Again, the oxymoronic difference could be made, that her father
likes men, and she likes women, but the underlying similarity is that they both aren t straight. This
second refutation of the similarities between farther and daughter only further to prove their

Annotated Bibliography Of Borderlands
Julia Glandt October 24, 2017 Borderlands FYS Annotated Bibliography They had no life; they were
not allowed to have a life. They were isolated from not only the white race but also their own people.
Mr. Michael Reed was one of those slave owners that treated his slaves that they were nothing more
than a piece of property. In his files, Mr. Reed had a ledger of daily activities. This ledger contained
hourly and daily record of everything his slaves would do. In some of his recordings, Mr. Reed would
write down very strange things for what activity his slaves were doing. He would make mention when
they were sick, of course so he could know how many hours they worked; but many of his recording
were not appropriate for him to be writing. He acted almost as if a lion stalking its prey before it killed
them, minus the killing. If his slaves went to the restroom, he would repeatedly write that or the word
nothing if he felt that they were not contributing to work on the plantations. By Reed doing this to his
slaves, he isolated them to not allow for them to have any outside contact. He silenced his slaves from
feeling like humans. Being trapped in this isolation dehumanized the slaves by treating them as more
of a research project/business rather than actual people, even though they were never thought of as
people at the time. The treatment these individuals reported ran the gamut from the most harsh,
impersonal, and exploitative to work and living conditions and environments

Nuclear War Pros And Cons
The Ineffectiveness of Attempts to Prevent the Proliferation of Nuclear Arms On August 6 1945, the
United States revealed the atomic bomb, a weapon more powerful than any preceding it. The U.S.
dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, ending World War II, and
resulting in over one hundred thousand deaths (Groves). Although nuclear weapons have not been
used in combat since, these weapons continue to be developed. Thousands of nuclear weapons are
currently operational, many with over one hundred times the power of the bombs dropped on Japan in
World War II, and the number of countries with nuclear weapons has grown over the past decades
(Kimball; Smith). There has been some debate about whether current attempts ... Show more content

In December of 1987, the United States and the Soviet Union signed the Intermediate Range Nuclear
Forces (INF) treaty, aimed at reducing the usefulness of nuclear weapons in combat. This treaty
eliminated all ground launched ballistic and cruise nuclear missiles with a range of 500 to 5500
kilometers in the United States and the Soviet Union. The INF put in place a comprehensive
inspection plan to ensure that the production of these weapons was discontinued, and the remaining
ones were destroyed (U.S. Department of State). Despite this inspection plan, the NPT has often been
violated by the Soviet Union, and now Russia. When it was first signed, the Soviet Union failed to
declare some of their missiles that operated within the range covered by the treaty. In 1993, Russia
refused to allow U.S. inspectors to completely inspect a new missile they had created, and in 2007,
Russia tested a cruise missile with a range estimated at well within the range banned by the INF treaty,
all serious violations of the NPT (Schneider 3 18). The U.S. response to these violations has been
minimal, and this lack of enforcement has allowed these violations to continue (Schneider 19 20).
Although the goals of the INF treaty were positive, it was made much less effective by the lack of
enforcement of the treaty. The INF had a comprehensive inspection and verification plan in place, but
since this was not strongly enforced, Russia was able to violate it without

Quotes That Show Bravery In Odysseus
Throughout the Odyssey, the Greek hero Odysseus show bravery, which, I think, is the most important
trait for a hero to exhibit. The first episode in which Odysseus shows bravery is in the episode New
Coasts and Poseidon s son. When Odysseus is stuck in the cave with Polyphemus Odysseus knew that
they need to find a way out so they were? going to blind the giant. Odysseus was going to stick a spear
into the eye of the giant Polyphemus. Odysseus could have stayed in the back lines and had his men
do it for him, but instead he was there to spear the Giant. This shows the trait bravery

What s Wrong With Online Marketing Advertising Practices
There are a number of types of products you should actively avoid. If you ve read our two part series
about Honest Marketing Techniques What s Wrong With Online Marketing Advertising Practices you
already know there are issues with uncontrolled advertising on the internet. Perhaps you ve already
been burned by purchasing a bad product, or with luck, you ve only been suspicious that a given
product may not be what it seems to be. In part one of this three part series, we will first look at blind
advertisements.
There is some similarity in product launches being seen lately, especially with ClickBank launches. It
isn t a problem with ClickBank per se, but as one of the most popular third party organizations

Blind copy on a $37 or $77 price point will sell the living daylights out of your product. It will also
destroy your customer list you just built, send refunds through the roof and create support nightmares.
Yes, I know that if you are an affiliate, you don t have to deal with the support issues, but you will
have lower income and ClickBank will withhold larger amounts from your checks to cover the
anticipated refund rates.
Compare that to the copy for an ethical advertisement. You get real information about what you ARE
going to get, so you know what to expect when you download the product. You don t get exaggerated
claims about how you will feel, or perhaps how much money you will make, but you will get concrete
information about what the product actually is and what benefits it provides.
I personally would never recommend any product that I haven t purchased myself and found to be
effective, and certainly not any product that doesn t provide up front information about exactly what it
is.
Second Rule: Loopholes and secrets are Blind too.
If the advertising copy promises a newly discovered loophole , you should be very, very careful about
the product. You should be aware that the great majority of loopholes are soon closed, often even
before major sales occur for the product that supposedly takes advantage of them.

Povertyin the World
Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context that
it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of agreeing on
a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979, p.285). A
clear definition of poverty supports and indicates the process for measurement, and as such would also
assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012; Ruggeri, Saith Stewart
2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australia s (Oxfam) Close the Gap campaign, it is necessary to
identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge the scope of the project, the
development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that occurs.
Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life
expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland
2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the
marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to fundamental
freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a multidimensional one.
Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of
human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Along with a

Freud Defense Mechanisms
Sigmund Freud: Defense Mechanisms Sigmund Freud was a psychoanalytic theorist and practitioner
who strongly emphasized the unconscious processes and biological drives that guide our behavior. He
asserted that instincts are the propelling forces of our personality, and that they originate in the id (the
unconscious part of our personality that works on the pleasure principle, and is a reservoir of our
instincts and libido). In addition to the id, we have the ego (the conscious, rational side of our
personality that works on the reality principle) and the superego (the largely unconscious, moral side
of our personality that contains our conscience). In addition to conceptualizing five psychosexual
stages that cover childhood and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I use this defense mechanism relatively often. For example, I m a very irritable person. Therefore, I
get angry at people often. The other day, I was in an argument with my brother and we were both
becoming very frustrated. Rather than giving into my id impulse, which was to hit my brother, I
sublimated that impulse into something else exercise. Instead of fighting my brother, I decided to go to
the gym. Alfred Adler: Striving for Superiority and Fictional Finalism Alfred Adler was a
psychological theorist who placed much emphasis on the uniqueness of each individual.
Consequently, he disagreed with Freud, especially regarding Freuds idea of the universality of
biological motives in every person. Adler proposed that inferiority is a function of the environment,
and that it is the normal condition of all people. Furthermore, he asserted that inferiority is the source
for human striving, because people compensate for feelings of inferiority by striving for higher levels
of development. In other words, we strive for superiority, and we have a strong will to work towards
perfection or completion. Additionally, Adler asserted that people have an imagined or potential goal
that guides our behavior, which he called fictional finalism. I feel as though my behavior is guided by
striving for superiority, and by fictional finalism. I strive for superiority on a daily basis, in most
aspects of my life. First, I

The Factum Myth
Our universe is like a web that connects each plane with others and all the planes was created by the
Principium, an arcane object placed in the first plane. That object created all worlds, even the one

life; Malkridos, god of Dark and death(the keeper of souls after the death); Shian, god of the earth and
Nacaltaal creator of the Aether. They gave life to the other minor Gods, between them ther was the

Cheering Creative Writing
Stepping onto the cold dark bus. It s early morning with a little wind to make you shiver. Quietly the
team picked their seats and sat down on the flat, grey seats. It s competition day. Cheering competition
day. In cheering you practice a routine for months and you have one chance to do it to the best of your
ability out in front of the judges. It s not like basketball where you make a play and if you don t get the
points just start over again. In cheering we have one chance to lay it all out there on the royal blue
mats. Taking the long drive to Augusta everyone is quite, we are all nervous for our first really
important competition. We arrive at the competition building and I start to question if we will be able

Booming voice. I walked into the mats more nervous than ever. Getting in to my correct position my
gut felt hollow and I was felt sick. Waiting for the music to come on was like waiting for pot to boil,
long and drawn out. Medomak Valley Pathners, we re back for redemption... . The music had started
and we were really performing. I though to myself we need to hit the first stunt and we did. Im in a
positiion where I can t see the other stunt groups so when the crowd started to cheer and the roar, I
new all the stunt groups it their skills. They next challenge would be jumps, they needed to be timed

than nervous but I knew I still had more challenges. They next thing challenge was the second stunt,
this stunt we turn the direction of the stunt. We pushed as hard as we could getting her to stand and
lock her leg. We hit it, I thought to myself. Now the only challenge left was the pyramid. This was the
one thing that could separate us from wining and losing. If one thing went wrong the whole thing
could fall apart. We pushed as hard as we could to toss, flip and throw her in the air. We hit it, and
everyone new that we had it made form here on out. All that was left was the dance. The team
knowing that we were almost done pushed all of our energy out into this dance. We were tight, clean,
and had good facials. Panthers!!!! We called bellowed. That was the end, or one chance, we did it. I
felt sick but that didn t stop me from hugging my hardworking teammates. We got of the mats. All that

The Dangers Of Secondhand Smoking
We have laws that protect minors from physical abuse, but isn t the damage from secondhand smoking
also considered physical abuse?
Secondhand smoke is the combination of the smoke exhaled by smokers and the burning end of a
cigarette. This smoke is dangerous for children and should not be used in the car with children.
Why is Secondhand Smoking Bad for Children?
Secondhand smoking cause many defects for children as they grow up. As parents of young children
smoke in the car, these children are exposed to this secondhand smoke frequently. According to
Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Secondhand smoke causes numerous health
problems in infants and children, including more frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory
infections, ear infection, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). As these children group up, the
health problems resulting from the secondhand smoke exposure affects their lifestyle and future.
Children do not deserve to be exposed to such toxic things so young. They are innocent victims to
their parents bad habit and life choices. Children are vulnerable and clearly do not know what these
chemicals do to their bodies so they are defenseless against the dangers of secondhand smoke. Centers
of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also states, Secondhand smoke contains more than 7,000
chemicals, hundreds are toxic and about 70 are known to cause cancer. I believe that it is not okay to
for parents to think that exposing children to secondhand smoke is not a problem. This mentality that
there is not a problem is the problem with secondhand smoking. I am not asking parents to stop
smoking just to take is outside away from childrens developing bodies.
Secondhand smoke is dangerous to all passengers in the car. The Americans for Nonsmokers Rights
(ANR) argues, Exposing passengers, both children and adults, to secondhand smoke in the confined
space of a car is extremely hazardous. This hazard is something that can be avoided, if laws are passed
to make smoking with children in the car illegal.
A study found on Rabbit Air website preformed by UK researchers found levels of fine particulate
matter were measured from the rear passenger seat of cars of over a dozen

Modern Day Zeppelins Or Airships
Have you ever seen a modern day zeppelin or more commonly known as airships? Probably not.
Zeppelins were once very popular. People all over the world wanted to fly on them, until the well
known zeppelin called the Hindenburg went up in flames. Today, there are companies that are trying
to bring back the airships that are safer for the world to use. There are many reasons that zeppelins or
airships could be very popular again. One reason they could be popular again is because they are safe
and good fro the environment. Modern day airships would use helium, a nonflammable gas, instead of
Hydrogen, the very flammable hydrogen. Helium is environment friendly, unlike hydrogen, which
was used in the 1930 s zeppelins. That is how the Hindenburg

Douglas McGregor: The Father of Theory X; Theory Y Douglas McGregor is one of the founding

Consequently, the only way that employees can attempt to satisfy higher level needs at work is to seek
more compensation, so it is quite predictable that they will focus on monetary rewards. While money
may not be the most effective way to self fulfillment, it may be the only way available. People will use
work to satisfy their lower needs, and seek to satisfy their higher needs during their leisure time.
Unfortunately, employees can be most productive when their work goals align with their higher level
needs.
McGregor makes the point that a command and control environment is not effective because it relies
on lower needs for motivation, but in modern society those needs are mostly satisfied and thus no
longer motivate. In this situation, one would expect employees to dislike their work, avoid
responsibility, have no interest in organizational goals, resist change, etc., thus creating a self fulfilling
prophecy. To McGregor, motivation seemed more likely with the Theory Y model.
Theory Y The higher level needs of esteem and self actualization are continuing needs in that they are
never completely satisfied. As such, it is these higher level needs through which employees can best
be motivated.
In strong contrast to Theory X, Theory Y leadership makes the following general assumptions: * Work
can be as natural as play if the conditions are favorable. * People will be self directed and creative to

Essay Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a condition that affects thousands of people each year. An estimated 764,000
children and adults are afflicted with one or more symptoms of CP. Around 8,000 infants and babies
are diagnosed each year and 1,200 1,500 preschool age children are recognized with symptoms of CP
(www.ucp.org). This condition is caused by abnormal development of areas of the brain that control
movement and posture (www.ucp.org). It can also be caused by damage to the brain (usually because
of head injury during the birthing process) or diseases/infections the mother has during pregnancy
such as German measles, rubella, bacterial meningitis, or viral encephalitis. Other risk factors may be

It can be quite difficult for the patient to use the muscles needed for speech; this is called dysarthria
(www.ucp.org). A lesser known type of CP that affects 5 10% of patients is called ataxic CP
(www.ucp.org). This form affects the patients sense of balance leaving them with poor coordination. It
is difficult for them to move quickly or make specific movements. Writing and buttoning their own
shirt can be a difficult task for people with ataxic CP. A tremor in the body part they are attempting to
use can be present as well. CP can also be present as a mixed form. This means the patient can have a
combination of each of the previous forms. There are many challenges that come with being
diagnosed with any type of cerebral palsy. Children with CP may have a problem controlling the
muscles in their mouth. Things we take for granted such as eating and talking can be very difficult for
children with CP. They may need assistance eating and may use other forms of communication.
Problems with breathing can also affect the child s ability to speak. Some children with CP also have
seizures or convulsions. This can be a result of abnormal brain activity. These seizures can completely
interrupt their activity. They can stare off in space or lose complete control of their body. Medication
is prescribed to those that need it. Children with

Stereotypes In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood, a book written by Truman Capote, details about a murder case in 1959 in Holcomb.
The four victims in this book where apart of the Christian church which in their community, which
was very ethnically diverse, Christianity was the most popular religion.
In the book we see that Christianity was more than just a religion, it was their way of living. The
villagers went by Gods words and they would socialize in the church. We also notice that in the book
Capote creates the following stereotype: good people are believers of the lord and bad people are
followers of Satan or are lost.
The way that he creates this is by using the following non believers of the lord characters to represent
this stereotype: Perry and Dick. Perry in the story reveals to have homosexual tendencies, which in
Christianity homosexuality is a sin, and Dick represents the seven deadly sins. Dick desires money,
sex, and power while Perry only desires to be loved and to get an education. In the story it is revealed
that Perry at one point was catholic but because of the abuse that he suffered in the catholic orphanage
he stopped believing in God and became lost. As a child Perry had vision of a huge golden bird which

but the Devil. Dick was lost by all the greed and lush he desired and he could never have been saved

The Time Value Of Money Essay
Until Wednesday April 8, 2015 no country had ever offered a ten year bond that gave investors a yield
of less than zero percent. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are paying to
hold. While many countries like the United States Federal Reserve are preparing to increase interest
rates, the European Central Bank is driving them down. The decreasing interest rates have forced
countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep their currency from
increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However, this notion challenges
the very fundamentals of investing in the bond market. Numerous countries throughout the Eurozone
and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various European countries rates
have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into negative territory. It appears
that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of investing) seems to count for very little
throughout the European bond market.
Although Switzerland was the first to sell ten year bonds with negative interest rates several other
European countries (both inside and outside the Eurozone) have sold government debt securities with
negative yields. Up until now the highest government debt instrument were five year maturities.
Switzerland s issuing of a ten year bond with a negative yield is only one of the numerous strange
monetary occurrences throughout the European

  • 2. Influence Of The Modern Sports Industry Different societies have different standards dictating how people should dress, eat, and how their bodies should look. Recently, in developed countries, societies promote enhancement supplements and medications in their standards for what its members should aspire to use. Because of this, men face increasingly more pressure to take these products so they can comply with social norms. The modern sports industry shows this increasing trend in male consumption of supplements. In 2013, 45% of collegiate male athletes in a study reported using some sort of nutritional supplement during their training (Darvishi). This supports the idea that in modern American advertisements, advisors place increasingly more pressure on men to take synthesized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The advertisers intentionally include a bland background so viewers focus on the only other figure present in the photograph: a lone man wearing gym clothes. The advertisement does not show the man s face, but does display his physique clearly. The man is large and muscular, and he appears to flex his muscles to show their outlines clearly. The absence of the man s face in the image shows how the advertisers portray the man s physique as the primary focus of the image by stripping the man of a unique identity, therefore mystifying him. By making his identity irrelevant, the advertisement seeks to present the man as the standard for physical perfection that all men should seek to achieve. The words used in the advertisement also aim to present the man as a dominant figure. The advertisers intend for two words to stand out. They bold, underline, and completely capitalize the words BOSS IT in the upper right hand dominant corner of the advertisement. By telling men to boss their workout, the advertisers appeal to the traditional image of the dominant male figure. The advertisement tells men to Walk in. Tear it up. Walk away. These words further imply that men should dominate their work out, however, by also telling them to simply walk away, the advertisers imply that the supplement will allow men to tear up their workout in a casual and effortless manner. This will allow men to walk away in the same way the man shown in the advertisement walks away, without even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Language As A Bilingual Language I have always been intrigued by the concept of language; whether it be from how languages originated, how people learn them, or how the language creates words different from the pre existing languages, I draw an interest to all of it. I specifically remember when I was younger, trying to create a new language of my own. In today s world, there are more than 2,000 languages spoken around the world. Some of those languages are only spoken by a single village while others are spoken by billions of people. Those who speak the less popular languages are most likely fluent in another major one. English is one of those major languages, although it is not the most spoken language in the world, it is a competitor; however, it is many people s choice of a second language, and spoken regularly in many foreign countries. Many schools throughout the world make it a requirement for their students to practice another language while enrolled. Unfortunately, after graduation, students never retain the language, it was simply stored in their short term memory. Becoming fluent in another language is not only alluring, but it is very beneficial to one s self, and the global community. Being bilingual is proven to give a leg up to people in the business world, improve one s mental health in many ways, and additionally advance other aspects in one s life not ordinarily associated with the learning of a new language. Why is it beneficial for native English speakers to learn another language? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Faulkner s Light in August Light in August Hightower s Epiphany Most criticism concerning Faulkner s novel, Light in August, usually considers the character of Joe Christmas. Christmas certainly deserves the attention paid to him, but too often this attention obscures other noteworthy elements of the complex novel. Often lost in the shuffle is another character, the Reverend Gail Hightower, who deserves greater scrutiny. A closer examination of Hightower reveals Faulkner s deep concern for the South and the collective suffering of its people. Hightower, through his own personal epiphany, transcends the curse under which the South has suffered for so long. Of course, the central character of Joe Christmas has dominated criticism of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which to me is the worst possible condition a man could find himself in not knowing what he is and to know that he will never know. (FIU 72) According to Faulkner, then, even Christmas does not know his heritage for sure, and that lack of knowledge apparently condemns him to a racial limbo from which there is no escape. Actually, Christmas is free to define himself as he sees fit. Even if he does possess Negro blood, it is not enough to prevent him from passing as a white man, and most characters who know him believe only that perhaps his father was a Mexican. Christmas passes as a white man by posing as a black one. James Snead remarks, Joe Christmas hides his blackness behind the screen of a negro s job : He pretends to slave like a negro so no one will think he is one (84). By accepting a menial labor job at a planing mill and living in a shack, he plays the role of a white man playing the role of a black man. Only when he confesses his suspicions do people see him as black: I think I got some nigger blood in me. . . . I don t know. I believe I have (LIA 216). But this confession hardly amounts to a definitive statement. By failing to provide an ultimate answer to the question of Christmas blood, Faulkner achieves what John L. Longley, Jr. considers to be one of [his] clearest strokes of genius (166). We all must confront our own racial feelings when we try to force Christmas into a category, and his ... • 5. Bosnian Genocide Essay In 1992 when Bosnia declared its independence from the Yugoslav, Orthodox Christian Serbians were losing power to the Muslim Bosniaks. The Bosnian Serb forces did not want to be outnumbered by Bosniaks at all. Especially when it came to things like politics. The Serbs that lived in Bosnia Herzegovina felt threatened by the numerous amount of Muslim power, so they decided to exterminate them. This resulted in a genocide. A genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people. This genocide is known as the Bosnia and Herzegovina Genocide. The Bosnian and Herzegovinian Genocide took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, (Bosnia), and Serbia. Before Bosnia became independent, they started to elect their first president. At the time there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They organized their genocide by state, (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Their goal was to exterminate all Bosniaks, (Muslim people who lived in Bosnia), and Croats, (Croatians who lived in Bosnia). That made the Bosniaks and Croats the victim. They were being targeted because ever since Bosnia broke away from Yugoslavia, Serbians had less power. Bosnia breaking away from Yugoslavia is the catalyst for this genocide. When they broke away, the Serbs living in Bosnia didn t have the population power, political power, or religious power. They figured that if they just took out all of the Bosniaks, (who had the majority power at the time), then they would be better off. So, that s what they did. They began their extermination process in early May of 1992 by attacking a Bosniak dominated town. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of it. The Serbians quickly started to gain speed in their extermination process. The whole process of wiping out all Bosniaks and Croats was expected to take about five years. But, in 1994 NATO forces initiated air strikes against the Bosnian Serbs to stop the murders/ attacks. In December of 1955 the conflict was ended and there was a force created to maintain ceasefire. Over the course of those three years Bosniaks and Croats were tortured, killed, and starved by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Edward Weston s Influence On The World Of Photography Essay Edward Weston was seen as one of the leading pioneers of photography in the 20th century. His contribution to the world of photography is one that was able to bring new possibilities to the field. His style of photography was unique to him at the time and offered the art community very original works of art. This style of Weston s was one of high resolution and clarity, though it did not come until midway in his career. Weston would soon collaborate with other artists that shared his tastes to form the f/64 group. Before becoming the world renowned photographer, Weston started as a humble and novice photographer (Edward Weston). As a matter of fact, Weston was interested in photography from an early age. Consequently on his 16th birthday, Weston s father gave him a Kodak Bulls Eye number two camera. This was Weston s first camera which he began to use to take pictures of his aunt s farm and Chicago parks. His photo s were average for the time and even landed him an exhibit in the Chicago Art Institute at the age of 17. Weston then traveled to California and became a surveyor of the land, which helped him gain an interest in the state and also the landscape. After working in California for some time, Weston made his way back to Illinois to attend the Illinois College of Photography. This did not keep Weston away from California for very long though. Within six months, Weston returned to California and created the Camera Pictorialists of Los Angeles in 1909 (Edward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Native American Code Talker Essay A. Plan of the Investigation This investigation evaluates to what extent did the Navajo code talkers aid the American military during WWII? In order to assess the extent to which these soldiers assisted the American military during WWII, this investigation focuses on their involvement in transmitting military messages in their native tongue, and the events surrounding these transmissions. In addition, the contribution of other Native American code talkers is considered and compared to that of the Navajos specifically within the investigation. B. Summary of Evidence Native American code transmission began in World War I, with the Choctaw Indians (Meadows, Honoring ). Because the Native languages were not based on European languages or ... The third Amphibious Corps was thought to have been the ones to report that, during Guam and other missions, the Navajo were considered indispensable for the rapid transmission of classified dispatches (Paul, 69). Besides transmitting vital information, the Code Talkers sometimes transmitted dummy messages (Takaki, 52). These false messages drove the enemy crazy, trying to decipher them, but getting nowhere (Takaki, 52). Meadows even puts forth the idea that if the Navajo and Comanche Indian communication units had been expanded, the war may have even been shortened (Meadows, Comanche , 50). As stated by Campbell, In the year 2000, Federal legislation was enacted to award Congressional Gold Medals to the Navajo code talkers for their contribution to America s victory over the Japanese Empire in World War II (qtd. in Hearing ). According to Tim Johnson, There is no doubt that the bravery and the courage of the Navajo code talkers helped to make the United States the free and proud place it is today (qtd. In Hearing ). The three i think are the most important are Separation of Powers, Popular sovereignty and federalism. These stand out to me because i feel like they re the most of about what goes on in the world today. Separation of powers is a very important part of society today. The three different powers is the Judicial branch, Legislative branch and the Executive branch. Those are also known as the 3 branches of government. • 9. Food Stamp History A History of Food Stamps The primary goal of food stamps is to increase food security and reduce national hunger in the United States. Each year, out of the one trillion dollars that the United States Government has to spend on assistance and welfare, food stamps takes up about 70 billion dollars (The History of NAP). The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or previously known as the Food Stamp Program) started through the Agriculture Adjustment Act (AAA) and since then has spread around its influence and authority and grown in size (Mary Clare Jalonick Associated). Throughout the past 80 years, the Food Stamp Program has been modified and reformatted, and today it aids more than 44 million Americans (Rude, Emelyn). The Food Stamp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johnson instated the Food Stamp Act which made the Food Stamp Program permanent. Congress saw this as an opportunity to strengthen the agricultural economy; to help achieve a fuller and more effective use of food abundances; to provide for improved levels of nutrition among low income households through a cooperative Federal State program of food assistance to be operated through normal channels of trade (Puro, Steven). In order for this program to function Congress would distribute out paper food stamps each month through a welfare office to those personnel or families who made the poverty line or below. Right after the Food Stamp Act of 1964 was adopted by Congress and the United States, many legislators have debated funding, eligibility standards, accessibility, and accountability (Food Distribution). However, this program did lead to a boost in the economy. Not only did low income families get the nutritional supplements that they needed, but it also caused food stamps to be cash equivalent to actual money which let customers buy other grocery items that were not part of the food program which expanded options (Rude, ... • 10. Sexuality And Selection Research Paper Sexuality Selection In order to create the next generation of a population, survival is not enough. Individuals must also reproduce. Around 90% of species reproduce sexually, which means male and female of a specie match. Darwin defined this as sexual selection. Darwin stated that sexual selection worked mainly in two ways: COMBAT OR DISPLAY, the first process is about members of the same sex fighting one another to attract the other sex attention; the second process, which is called display, is about members of one sex, choosing members from the other sex. Combat leads to larger and stronger males, males that outstand from the rest of the population. This also apply to Human. Darwin states that mate selection is of women by men, not the ... • 11. Equal Citizen And Gender Status equal citizen. This approach requires an expansion of the meaning of equality to include all choices people make in their lives. If we look at it in this way, equality means the right not to have one s life split between career and family. It also means the right to control one s own social roles. From an inequality perspective, the test in any case would be whether the policy or practice in question integrally contributes to the maintenance of an underclass or a deprived position because of gender status. If the law continues to contribute to the repression of women, the court must then deliberate if the law has a substantial impact on perpetuating the inequality of women. If so, the court must use the strict scrutiny analysis to see if the law is reasonable in having a compelling state interest. Therefore, the inequality test moves away from the current equal protection analysis in that is does not need to have a link between similarly situated classes of people. This difference is important because laws that govern reproductive biology rule ways in which women and men are not similarly situated. Moreover, this test demands a strict security analysis of cases that perpetuate the oppression of women, rather than the intermediate scrutiny analysis, which is, applied to all gender cases. Therefore, things that make men and women different like pregnancy or sexuality would automatically prompt strict scrutiny. From this new equality perspective then, the abortion question ... • 12. The Opposites In Alison s Fun Home The Opposites in a mirror Fun Home isn t merely a story of Allison Bechdel and her father, but a story of the change in her thoughts about how the two of them were related. Over the course of the novel, Her thoughts of her father change, from thinking each other as total opposites, from their habits, personality, and sexuality, to accepting that these differences are really what make them the same. On page 15, Bechdel explicitly states the numerous ways in which her and her father are different. She does this by giving examples of classic opposites in society, like Spartan to my Father s Athenian. Modern to his victorian, Butch to his Nelly, Utilitarian to his Aesthete .(15) These examples are laid along illustrations of her and her father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alison compares her father to The grimy deer hunters (96) and stated that her father was a big sissy (97). Meanwhile, she notes how she was nicknamed Butch, and The opposite of sissy (97). The clear indication that she gives in this comparison is that she is more manly than her father. However, in the view of sexuality and gender, this holds Alison and her father as equals. Alison talks about herself defying gender stereotypes even as a young child. Alison hated flowers, liked baseball, and mentioned that she had become a connoisseur of masculinity at an early age (95) Meanwhile, her father loved having all sorts of plants around the house, would rather garden than play baseball, and clearly was not the image of masculinity that Alison wanted her father to be. This contrast is, again, what brings Alison and her father closer together. They both defy their gender stereotypes. The only true difference is that that Alison is female, and her father male. This similarity is furthered when Bechdel tells of both her and her father s sexuality. Again, the oxymoronic difference could be made, that her father likes men, and she likes women, but the underlying similarity is that they both aren t straight. This second refutation of the similarities between farther and daughter only further to prove their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Annotated Bibliography Of Borderlands Julia Glandt October 24, 2017 Borderlands FYS Annotated Bibliography They had no life; they were not allowed to have a life. They were isolated from not only the white race but also their own people. Mr. Michael Reed was one of those slave owners that treated his slaves that they were nothing more than a piece of property. In his files, Mr. Reed had a ledger of daily activities. This ledger contained hourly and daily record of everything his slaves would do. In some of his recordings, Mr. Reed would write down very strange things for what activity his slaves were doing. He would make mention when they were sick, of course so he could know how many hours they worked; but many of his recording were not appropriate for him to be writing. If his slaves went to the restroom, he would repeatedly write that or the word nothing if he felt that they were not contributing to work on the plantations. By Reed doing this to his slaves, he isolated them to not allow for them to have any outside contact. He silenced his slaves from feeling like humans. Being trapped in this isolation dehumanized the slaves by treating them as more of a research project/business rather than actual people, even though they were never thought of as people at the time. • 14. Nuclear War Pros And Cons The Ineffectiveness of Attempts to Prevent the Proliferation of Nuclear Arms On August 6 1945, the United States revealed the atomic bomb, a weapon more powerful than any preceding it. The U.S. dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, ending World War II, and resulting in over one hundred thousand deaths (Groves). Although nuclear weapons have not been used in combat since, these weapons continue to be developed. Thousands of nuclear weapons are currently operational, many with over one hundred times the power of the bombs dropped on Japan in World War II, and the number of countries with nuclear weapons has grown over the past decades (Kimball; Smith). In December of 1987, the United States and the Soviet Union signed the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty, aimed at reducing the usefulness of nuclear weapons in combat. This treaty eliminated all ground launched ballistic and cruise nuclear missiles with a range of 500 to 5500 kilometers in the United States and the Soviet Union. The INF put in place a comprehensive inspection plan to ensure that the production of these weapons was discontinued, and the remaining ones were destroyed (U.S. Department of State). Despite this inspection plan, the NPT has often been violated by the Soviet Union, and now Russia. When it was first signed, the Soviet Union failed to declare some of their missiles that operated within the range covered by the treaty. In 1993, Russia refused to allow U.S. inspectors to completely inspect a new missile they had created, and in 2007, Russia tested a cruise missile with a range estimated at well within the range banned by the INF treaty, all serious violations of the NPT (Schneider 3 18). The U.S. response to these violations has been minimal, and this lack of enforcement has allowed these violations to continue (Schneider 19 20). Although the goals of the INF treaty were positive, it was made much less effective by the lack of enforcement of the treaty. The INF had a comprehensive inspection and verification plan in place, but since this was not strongly enforced, Russia was able to violate it without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Povertyin the World Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context that it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979, p.285). A clear definition of poverty supports and indicates the process for measurement, and as such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012; Ruggeri, Saith Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australia s (Oxfam) Close the Gap campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that occurs. Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland 2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a multidimensional one. Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Freud Defense Mechanisms Sigmund Freud: Defense Mechanisms Sigmund Freud was a psychoanalytic theorist and practitioner who strongly emphasized the unconscious processes and biological drives that guide our behavior. He asserted that instincts are the propelling forces of our personality, and that they originate in the id (the unconscious part of our personality that works on the pleasure principle, and is a reservoir of our instincts and libido). In addition to the id, we have the ego (the conscious, rational side of our personality that works on the reality principle) and the superego (the largely unconscious, moral side of our personality that contains our conscience). Consequently, he disagreed with Freud, especially regarding Freuds idea of the universality of biological motives in every person. Adler proposed that inferiority is a function of the environment, and that it is the normal condition of all people. Furthermore, he asserted that inferiority is the source for human striving, because people compensate for feelings of inferiority by striving for higher levels of development. In other words, we strive for superiority, and we have a strong will to work towards perfection or completion. Additionally, Adler asserted that people have an imagined or potential goal that guides our behavior, which he called fictional finalism. Secondhand smoke is the combination of the smoke exhaled by smokers and the burning end of a cigarette. This smoke is dangerous for children and should not be used in the car with children. Why is Secondhand Smoking Bad for Children? Secondhand smoking cause many defects for children as they grow up. As parents of young children smoke in the car, these children are exposed to this secondhand smoke frequently. According to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Secondhand smoke causes numerous health problems in infants and children, including more frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infection, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). As these children group up, the health problems resulting from the secondhand smoke exposure affects their lifestyle and future. Children do not deserve to be exposed to such toxic things so young. They are innocent victims to their parents bad habit and life choices. Children are vulnerable and clearly do not know what these chemicals do to their bodies so they are defenseless against the dangers of secondhand smoke. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also states, Secondhand smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, hundreds are toxic and about 70 are known to cause cancer. I believe that it is not okay to for parents to think that exposing children to secondhand smoke is not a problem. This mentality that there is not a problem is the problem with secondhand smoking. I am not asking parents to stop smoking just to take is outside away from childrens developing bodies. Secondhand smoke is dangerous to all passengers in the car. The Americans for Nonsmokers Rights (ANR) argues, Exposing passengers, both children and adults, to secondhand smoke in the confined space of a car is extremely hazardous. People will use work to satisfy their lower needs, and seek to satisfy their higher needs during their leisure time. Unfortunately, employees can be most productive when their work goals align with their higher level needs. McGregor makes the point that a command and control environment is not effective because it relies on lower needs for motivation, but in modern society those needs are mostly satisfied and thus no longer motivate. In this situation, one would expect employees to dislike their work, avoid responsibility, have no interest in organizational goals, resist change, etc., thus creating a self fulfilling prophecy. To McGregor, motivation seemed more likely with the Theory Y model. Theory Y The higher level needs of esteem and self actualization are continuing needs in that they are never completely satisfied. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are paying to hold. While many countries like the United States Federal Reserve are preparing to increase interest rates, the European Central Bank is driving them down. The decreasing interest rates have forced countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep their currency from increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However, this notion challenges the very fundamentals of investing in the bond market. Numerous countries throughout the Eurozone and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various European countries rates have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into negative territory. It appears that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of investing) seems to count for very little throughout the European bond market.
