Book Report On Kenan s List
Kenan Trebničević was living in Bosnia during the time of the ethnic cleansing that happened. In his
book, The Bosnia List, Kenan tells about his experience with the war that him and his family had to
live through. Kenan had very skeptical views about how his homeland turned out to be after the war,
but once he traveled back to Bosnia with his family his perspective was greatly changed. Kenan was
about thirty years old when he decided he was going to make a list of all of the things that he wanted
to do when he got back to Bosnia. After traveling back, he soon realized that things were much
different than he anticipated, and he decided to make a new list. When Kenan made his original list it
had a lot of hate in it. The first item on his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, when he started to make his new list he thought it was difficult to think of the good among the evil
(Trebinčević 296). When he sat down and really thought about it, there were just enough people there
to help him and his family stay alive and to escape the horrible life they were living (Trebinčević 296).
The first item on Kenan s new list was, Thank God for Obren, who warned Dad and Mujo away from
the Partizan Sports Hall (Trebničević 297). The Partizan Sports Hall was a popular place that Kenan
and his family occupied a lot. This is the place that Kenan was able to learn karate as a child from his
coach Pero. But, it was also a place where innocent people were being taken during the ethnic
cleansing that happened in Bosnia. It was very important that Obren was there to warn Kenan s father
and his friend to steer clear of this place now, otherwise they probably would have been killed right

The Day I Lost My Innocence
The day I lost my innocence was the day my life was forever changed. For the past couple of days we
have been hearing about the civil wars in the different Liberian counties. I can hear the fear in my dad
s voice as he tells me of the horrible things the rebels are doing. They are killing all of the people that
do not support or believe in what they are doing. I am from one of the richest countries in the world,
blessed with many natural resources. This small West African country called Liberia, is one of the
world s largest exporters of rubber, diamonds, and gold. But this beautiful country will never hold the
esteemed place that it once held. War has torn this beautiful land a part. I hate wars, I hate everything
about them. If I had the power and the chance to do great things in this world, I would do everything
in my power to stop people from fighting war; so that people don t have to die. But interestingly, my
view on wars was not always this way. At one point in my life, the idea of war was exciting to me,
mostly because it was always glorified. From what I saw on television, war movies were depicted with
beautiful story lines that made me want to take part in that exhilarating experience. But this view was
suddenly changed when I was forced to take a man s life. My troubles all started just one month ago
when the rebels finally took over the capital city of Liberia, called Monrovia. I awoke to barrels of
gun fire, everything I knew and loved to do was takin from

A Closer Look at Pluralism
Reading over the brilliant work of Michael Walzer s What does it mean to be an American I have
discovered that the identity of Americans is that of a melting pot. We , as Americans, promote an
abundance of cultures that are interconnected to make our country the amazing place it is today.
Walzer believes in the diversity of America, he realizes that America s cultural diversity is part of what
makes us the best country in the world. Walzer knows that pluralism and national unity go hand in
hand. You cannot have one without the other. Even with the existence of dozens of ethnos that have
the right to vote and live freely as U.S. citizens, we are not in jeopardy of acquiring any negative
consequences. As walzer stated one can reasonably argue that ethnic pluralism is entirely compatible
with the existence of a unified republic. Walzer s opinion on pluralism is diverse as the word would
indicate. To begin with, he stresses the importance of keeping immigration open, and we should be
strongly against any government issued law that would cut off immigrants coming into this country.
No one is indigenous to this country, so in a sense, we are all immigrants. It is morally repugnant to
allow some to come, while turning others away. Next, he states that we should upgrade the schooling
to help in the teaching of history and aid in immigrant awareness. Then, he goes on to discuss how
essential it is to identify and aid in the nurturing of public political ability

Summary Of The Poem Enter Without So Much As Knocking By...
In 1950 s Australia, post WWII, everyone wanted to be living the American Dream. Everyone wanted
a nice house and a large backyard, cute kids and a stay at home wife, a stable job and a steady income,
and all the material products in the world. In 1950 s Australia, Bruce Dawe wrote many poems. In
three of his poems Enter Without So Much as Knocking; Americanized; and Breakthrough he used
techniques such as language, juxtaposition and metaphors to express his views about the negative
effects of consumerism, American influence and technology.
In the poem Enter Without So Much as Knocking , Bruce Dawe uses the language of television to
display the effect technology and advertisements had on daily Australian life in the 1950 s. In the first
stanza, Dawe wrote ...first thing he heard was Bobby Dazzler on Channel 7: Hello, hello, hello all you
lucky people... The stanza is focused on a ten day old baby who has been taken home and the first
thing he hears is the catch phrase of a TV personality. This tells us that in Dawe s world, children are
exposed to the news and the power of ads as young as possible, to force them into a life of technology
and big companies. In stanza three, the language becomes more demanding and jarring. Dawe uses
capitalization, repetition and short sentences to create a list of rules society is being forced to follow.
He uses road rules such as walk. Don t walk. Turn left. No parking, and the lack of emotion in the
words highlights how he believes this is not the way to live. The fifth stanza is written as the adult. It s
a long sentence filled with the jargon of advertising and superficial connections to family and friends,
and through this language use Dawe shows us exactly what he s afraid of.
Americanized is, as the title suggests, a poem about American influence. It is an extended metaphor,
where the mother in the poem is America, the child being Australia, and their relationship which is not
built on trust or love but rather need and fear. This basic human relationship has been twisted by Dawe
to show that the consumer lifestyle America brought to Australia is taking away the Australian
identity. The poem starts with She loves him... and although this emotive language makes the

In the play A Man For All Seasons, the main character is Sir Thomas More. Sir Thomas is the
Chancellor of England and a very religious man. Once, during a conversation with Wolsey
(Chancellor at the time) about the King needing a son, Wolsey asks if Sir Thomas would like to
govern the whole country by prayer and Sir Thomas agrees. This shows how strong his faith was. Sir
Thomas is a friend of King Henry VIII, but when he disagreed with the King s opinion on marriage,
he was beheaded. King Henry was married to Catherine of Argon, the daughter of Ferdinand and
Isabella of Spain. Catherine was Henry s brother s widow. King Henry and Catherine were married for

State reasons. Sir Thomas doesn t agree, so Wolsey says he was an enemy in him, until he comes
down to earth. In Scene 3, Sir Thomas is looking for a boat, and Cromwell approaches him. Thomas
Cromwell is in his late 30 s, subtle, serious, and an intellectual bully. Cromwell is on his way to see

He is the Spanish Ambassador who is in like 60 s and a professional diplomat. Chapuys tells Sir
Thomas that the King of Spain would be very insulted if Catherine were to be hurt or insulted. He uses
this as a kind of threat to Sir Thomas, as if to make sure Catherine will not get hurt. In Scene 4, when
Sir Thomas comes home, he finds out that William Roper is there with Lady Margaret. Roper wants to
marry Margaret, but Sir Thomas says he cannot as long as he is a heretic. Sir Thomas tells William to

Yahoo Case Study Essay example
Case about Yahoo 1. Success as a Web Search Engine
a. Why was Yahoo! such an early success on the Web?
Yahoo was an early success due to a combination of factors such as timing, hard work, and a good
understanding of Web surfer s tastes and needs.. In early 1995, Net mania was just flowering. It was a
great time to be a young entrepreneur with an Internet idea. Dave Faldo and Jerry Yang saw a
consumer need for classifying and differentiating web sights. Resting the urge to automate this
process, Yahoo s founders instead chose to manually perform this search, reviewing and classifying
roughly 1000 sights a day. This approach combined with their decision to offer a free service lead to
early success.
b. Why was Yahoo! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yahoo! provides its users with free services such as email, stock tracking, customized news searches,
weather, travel rates, and sports information all on one personalized home page.
However, Yahoo! founders realized that without a strong brand name, they would have difficulty
attracting both advertisers and users. In order to get people to use your sight the first time, having a
recognizable brand name in essential. New users have been bombarded with creative ads that may
well lead them to try Yahoo! before a competitor. It is well know that creating brand equity is the
surest way to find long term success in the business world. One has to go no further than Coca Cola to
see the lasting effects of building a recognizable brand name. Once users came in droves, advertisers
weren t far behind seeking to capitalize on this captive audience.
b. Do you approve of how Karen Edwards has promoted the Yahoo! brand? Why or why not? How
would you improve Yahoo! marketing? Explain why.
Edwards used an excellent approach in her initial marketing campaign. The majority of web surfers
are young. Targeting events and media that are frequently attended/subscribed to by the Gen X target
market proved quick and efficient way to attract interest.
The next step was to find a way to hold on to current users. This was accomplished with the consistent
offering of new services and distributing freebies that kept the Yahoo! brand name in the forefront of

Why Elephants Are Scared Of Mice
Why Elephants Are Scared of Mice
Thousands of years ago in Africa, elephants roamed the Earth without a single worry. Their immense
size and strength had caused them to develop exaggerated pride, overconfidence and the belief that
they were superior to all other creatures. George in particular, was no exception. He was more
egotistic and arrogant than the entire elephant race combined. George only allowed the others to refer
to himself as Master George and was incredibly irritated when smaller creatures would even glance at
him without proper deference.
Due to physical weakness and miniature size, most field mice had grown completely obedient,
cowardly and feeble in character. Elephants such as George would often bully, hurt or even ... Show

George the elephant was of the opinion that he there was nobody as attractive or intelligent as himself.
For this reason he presumed that it was a waste of time for him to meet other female elephants to build
a family with. Therefore, George s only task was to find water for himself. Pedro on the other hand,
had recently encountered a stunning female mouse who he cared for a great deal. Although he was
challenged to find enough water for two beings, his size was finally an advantage due to the fact that
mice required less water than larger creatures.
After hours of searching for even the smallest bodies of water, Pedro eventually came across a
sizeable puddle. His hard work had payed off; he was ready to return home to provide water to his
partner. However, in order to continue his journey, Pedro needed several gulps of water himself. As
Pedro drank blissfully, he noticed a large silhouette approaching the puddle. He could recognize this
creature anywhere. It was an elephant.
It didn t take George a long time to discover puddles that had not yet dried. George only needed to
stand on his hind legs to see all the bodies of water around. He would then walk towards the pond, and
proceed to use his long trunk to suck up the remaining water. After having used his methods on four
different puddles, George casually strolled in the direction of the fifth. He was about to begin
consuming the water, when he

Cause And Effects Of The Cambodian Genocide
During times of trouble it is the structure of families which bring stability and fuel resilience. Families
often support each other to survive a trauma because they are support systems. The Cambodian
genocide led by the Khmer Rouge regime attempted to tear apart families and exploit their special
bond. The Khmer Rouge soldiers took towns captive or burned them, and recruited youths to join their
cause (Pran IX). From 1975 to 1979, all Cambodians were forced to live in labor camps and were
forced to work fourteen to eighteen hours a day with only a single bowl of rice to eat. Family
members were separated from one another purposefully to lower morale. During this period an
estimated one third of Cambodian s population died due to malnutrition, illness, and execution (Pran
X). Children of Cambodia s Killing Fields: Memoirs by Survivors compiled by Dith Pran is important
because it confirms the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime, explains how the Khmer Rouge gained
power, and how the Khmer Rouge attempted to indoctrinate young children against their parents.
In the 1950s Cambodia gained its independence from France and became peacefully ruled by Prince
Sihanouk. In the 1960s, Cambodia was dragged into the Vietnam War and in 1970, the prime minister
General Lon Nol assumed power and announced the implementation of the Khmer Republic and sent
the Khmer Republic s army to fight the North Vietnamese in Cambodia (Smith Hefner 264). Prince
Sihanouk formed a communist guerrilla

Essay On The Difference Between Civil Law And American...
Compared to the rest of the industrialized world, the United States is a fairly young country. As a
result, the U.S. has many institutions that differ from other advanced industrial democracies. One of
the most prominent differences between the U.S. and the rest of the industrialized world resides in our
legal systems. While the most common democratic judicial tradition, especially in social democracies,
is the civil law tradition, the U.S. differs and has a common law legal tradition. Many differences exist
between civil and common law traditions and the United States legal system would have stark changes
if it switched to a civil legal system.
A key difference between civil and common law legal systems is the role of the legal code. In civil
law, the legal code is the supreme source of justice in a society; a handbook on citizen rights,
responsibilities, and the law (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.97). In civil law, the the legal ...

In common law systems, less emphasis is placed on strictly following the words of the legal code, but
rather following the precedent set by previous cases findings. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier,
judges in common law nations have a prestigious connotation attached to their role. They hold a
highly sought after position and earn their black robe through the culmination of their legal career.
With the defendant under the presumption of innocence, these judges and the court act as neutral
actors and let the two opposing sides argue their case in front of a jury. Because of this, the common
law system is referred to as adversarial (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.100). One of the biggest
differences amongst common and civil law systems is the role of judicial review. Unlike in nations
with civil law, common law societies have a tremendous amount of judicial review oversight of
legislative or executive actions by the judiciary (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016,

Research Paper On Shakespeare
I assume everyone already knows that Shakespeare invented many new words in the English
language, but have you ever stopped and thought about just why he did it? People don t make up new
words for no reason; they make them up because there is a need. In Shakespeare s case, that need was
because of his time period and the ideas he wanted to express. Let me explain:
Shakespeare wrote his plays, poems, and other works during the time of Elizabethan England. This is
a very interesting time period in history because many new revolutions and reforms were taking place.
The most important one regarding Shakespeare was the Italian Renaissance. You see, Early Modern
English which is what we call the English that Shakespeare wrote in was very messy regarding its
structure and vocabulary when you compared it to languages such as Latin and Greek. When
Shakespeare was starting to write his works, the English language was going through incredible
changes, absorbing and integrating words from other languages due to the events that were happening
in the 1600s such as colonization, exploration, war, and others. There was a huge return to
philosophical thinking in Italy and a new way of expressing ideas that we today call the Renaissance.
Of course the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

scenes he describes are often using Italian cultural mediums such as Commedia Dell Arte. Nowhere
could you find such a historical basin of beautiful ideas and expressions without going to Latin and
therefore to Italy. Shakespeare wanted his plays to mean something wonderful, and to do this he went
to places with language that conveyed these beautiful ideas like no one else. There s a reason why in
English romantic means romantic as in love inspiring and romantic as in

Chapter 1 Saudi Arabia
In Chapter 1 Article 1 of Saudi Arabia s constitution, it states [t]he Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a
sovereign Arab Islamic State. Its religion is Islam. Its constitution is Almighty God s Book, The Holy
Qur an, and the Sunna (Traditions) of the Prophet (PBUH). Arabic is the language of the Kingdom (
The Royal Embassy ). The relationship between religion and the state can be explained in a variety of
factors that ultimately influence the political, social and religious structure within a country. Saudi
Arabia, for example, is an Islamic theocracy where Islam is the official state religion and requires it
citizens to be Muslim ( Saudi Arabia ). As the birthplace of Islam, the overwhelming majority of
natives in Saudi Arabia are adherents to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the constitution of Saudi Arabia is based on the strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism,
religious freedom policies are essentially non existent. In general, the government does not recognize
the principle of separation of religion and state. For example, it is illegal to practice non Muslim
religions in public; however the government has publically stated that it allows non Muslims to
worship in private ( Saudi Arabia , 2004). This right, however, is not guaranteed in practice and is not
a constitutional right ( Saudi Arabia , 2004). A 2017 Pew Research Center report reinforced Saudi
Arabia s single monopoly rule policies by including it as part of 23 out of 198 countries to earn the
distinction of having very high government restrictions on religion ( Global , 2017). Similarly, Saudi
Arabia also received a high rating on the Pew Research Center s Social Hostilities Index, which
measures aggression by private individuals, organizations or groups in society, such as religion related
harassment and terrorism (Fahmy, 2018). Another prominent example of religious restrictions is the
inability for a Muslim to convert to another religion. A Muslim who attempts to convert to another
religion can be charged and sentenced to death if he or she does not recant (Beehner, 2007). Strict
restrictions on religious freedom and expression have allowed Sunni Islam to

official procedure. A young customs official tells Obi that the tax on his radiogram is five pounds. Obi
demands a government receipt. The official says that he can decrease the duty to two pounds for Obi.
Obi asks how he can do it. The novel also records the way of life of taxi drivers who load their cars
and drive at unsafe speeds howling abuse at one another across that roads and traffic police taking too
much advantage of the condition and taking bribes from them. Even ministers confess that they take
bribes. No Longer at Ease shows the nature and extent of the changes brought by colonial intervention
in Nigeria. (Riddy, Felicity, Language as a Theme in No Longer at Ease Ed. Innes and Lindfors, 153.)
The degeneration of young Nigerians is very objectively illustrated. In the novel, Nigerians are shown
to have little ethical values. Young girls offer their sex to win favours from bureaucrats. About Obi
himself, the novel verbalizes: he had been quite intimate with a few (women) in England...a Nigerian,
a West Indian, English girls and so on. (Achebe, Chinua. 1960. No Longer at Ease. London:

Kashida of Kashmir
Kashmiri embroidery is well known for the beauty of its colour, texture, design and technique.
Probably, the best known Indian embroidery is the Kashida of Kashmir . This embroidery is revealed
in shawls and in cottage industry done by the members of families in Srinagar. Kashmiri embroidery is
practiced by men and it is essentially a commercial craft. | | According to Ramala S. Dongekery, the

The Importance Of Movies In Movies
Movies have been around since the late 1800 s in various forms and have always been at the center of
water cooler debates because of their ability to push the boundaries of social norms. Because movies
are entertainment, they can fall victim to becoming boring and mundane after a while, this is why the
boundaries of what we see portrayed on screen are always moving. Lyden (2003) states We are
beginning to realize that we cannot understand or interpret our society except in its relation to these
unavoidable additions to it. Some welcome them and some fear them, but they are here to stay (p.1).
For as long as I can remember, I ve been an avid fan of movies. I have enjoyed everything from action
to drama; comedy to suspense, but the one thing that is immutable about my experience is the self
apparent change in the morals and values depicted in film. It is the ability of movies to make us feel a
certain way, as well as influence social conciseness that makes the moralities that drive them
important to examine. How do movies continue to push the boundaries of our expectations, without
exploring the fringes of cultural and social morality? What is the damage to our psyches when the
things depicted on the big screen challenge the established moral norms? Matthew 6:22 24 informs us

skilled workers, more immigrants are urgently needed. David Olive, author of this source in The
Toronto Star, believes that Canada needs to be more welcoming to immigrants for the sake of the
economy. Compared to Canadian natives, immigrants face a plethora of problems in regards to finding
jobs. In Canada there is a stubborn gap between skilled first generation immigrants and the general
population when it comes to being able to secure employment, decent housing and adequate pay .
Potential immigrants often opt out of immigration because to them it isn t worth it if they have to take
lower paying jobs that aren t in their original field of work. Immigrants often convey these struggles
and challenges to their home country consequently discouraging other potential immigrants. Solving
the issues immigrants currently confront is thus integral to the long term prosperity of Canada s
economy . The source recommends fast tracking credentials while the immigrant is in their home
country as well as allowing temporary foreign workers and international students (who have graduated
from Canada) to have a quicker way to permanent residence. Through this source, David Olive is
ultimately trying to say that for Canada s economy to stay competitive, we must help immigrants
arrive here, and make their

Abstract:
The primary goal of our experiment is to construct an automated house that will be more energy
efficient than an average house. SmartWindows that will automatically close and adjust to conform
with any outside conditions. Our primary motivation is from the huge amount of domestic power that
is lost every year, which can become a large sum when converted to money. As personal victims of
this unfortunate monetary loss, finding and developing a solution to this problem prompted this
investigation and subsequent experiment. The experimenting process is fairly simple but will take an
extended period of time through two phases: construction and experimentation. First the model house
must be constructed from balsa wood blocks and held together by a combination of glue and staples.
Then the windows will be constructed, with plexiglass substituting for glass Next, the actual window
opening apparatus must be created in AutoDesk Inventor before being 3D printed. This apparatus will
be connected to the Arduino module, which will be programmed to control the functions of the house
and making sure everything runs effectively and efficiently. The windows are our primary focus and
will be the most important improvement but more may be

wallpaper was male run establishment and the patriarchal (Controlled by man) structure in the
nineteenth century households. Prior to the twentieth century men had assigned and defined roles for
women. Most of the woman that had suffered were the middle class. Men had the so called power to
overrule the woman. In the poem the yellow wallpaper it s about this woman that is driven to madness
as a result of a Victorian rest cure . The rest cure involves the isolation of family and friends and that s

Donald Super Theory
In 1980, Donald Super introduced a theory that described career development in terms of life stages
and life roles. Super was one of the first theorists to discuss the constantly evolving nature of career
development, and the importance of finding a balance between career and personal life. Super s
developmental model emphasized how personal experiences interact with occupational preferences in
creating one s self concept. Super discussed how each of us progress through various life and career
development stages, including growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and disengagement.
He also discussed that each of us take on different roles as we go through life, such as a child, student,
leisurite, citizen, worker, parent, and spouse. Each of these roles has an impact on our personal and
professional development, and on our work/life balance. Finally, his archway of career determinants
detailed how both personality characteristics (intelligence, needs, values) and societal characteristics
(labor market, school, family) influence our career choices and have a major impact on our career
development. Super s Life and Career Development Stages Donald Super s theory of career
development focuses on the different stages people progress through as they go through life, and how
these stages correlate with important events and career choices. During growth (birth 14 years), people
grow physically and begin to form ideas of their self worth. During this time, many people

Argumentative Essay About Space Station
In the near future, a station will be needed to do what Earth can no longer to provide for us in the
future. With the growing population of 200,000 people to this planet every day and 70 million more
people every year, food is the ever growing need. But how can we support the growing human species
on Earth? The answer in short is we can t by the year 2100 the United Nations predicts that 11 billion
people will exist on Earth (World Population Balance 2017). This in turn unless corrected by stop
having kids, would create death rates rise through famine, disease, and war. Another solution is to

the system to response to power grid load and power system thermal load. This would provide a safe

be brought online from a down system or emergency. If in an emergency the nuclear reactor

investigate the reactor to see if recoverability can be taken. Batteries will be cycled on and off to

Water Treatment Systems Should Be Banned
Many people in the United States, and in other parts of the world, take water for granted because all
they have to do it turn on a faucet. More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation,
and hygiene related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world. (Adams
2003) What if clean, drinkable water was available to those people? Water is needed to produce crops;
it is also needed to hydrate people to keep them alive as well as feed animals. Water treatment systems
can be used to take contaminated water, like that which is found all over the world in rivers and lakes,
after it is run through a treatment system the water is lacking contaminates and drinkable.
The product that I have decided would benefit not only my business but also the world would be my
father in law s water treatment business. The knowledge and ability of his company to take
contaminated water, that you would not want to handle with gloves let alone drink, run it through his
treatment system make it clean and pure is something that parts of the world desperately need. Using
the four utilities of customer value, I can demonstrate why marketing these types of systems could be
beneficial and lucrative.

Its main objective is improving economic efficiency, especially labor productivity. It was one of the
earliest attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and to management (3). He believed
this could greatly increase the effectiveness with which a company runs. To apply his solution, Taylor
created planning departments, staffed them with engineers, and gave them the responsibility to:
1. Develop scientific methods for doing work.
2. Establish goals for productivity.
3. Establish systems of rewards for meeting the goals.
4. Train the personnel in how to use the methods and thereby meet the goals.
In theory, providing the workers an insight into the goals set out by the company and providing them a
suitable and healthy environment along with teaching them the latest techniques could really help a
company to work its way towards its desired goals. The workers should be kept together as a group
and treated fairly with promotions and appreciation whenever the company does good in the market.
This could motivate the workers in putting more effort in reaching the goals that have been set up by
the company.

The Dutch in Japan Essay
The Red Haired Barbarians: The Dutch in Japan
The success of Dutch merchants in Japan illustrates the uniqueness of the Dutch
Republic amongst the 17th century European countries. Not only would the Dutch come to dominate
trade in Asia, in Japan they would demonstrate a practicality that would enable them to be the singular
Western force present in a country that would severely isolate itself from any foreign intrusion. The
V.O.C. could indeed be a ruthless cartel in securing trade from its competition and in dealing with
indigenous populations around the world, as in the case of slavery where human beings were reduced
to mere commodities to be bought and sold. Yet, the relationship between early Dutch traders, the

He ushered in the longest era of peace in his country, and his decisions determined the fate of both the
Portuguese and Dutch in Japan. (Totman)
One merchant ship was the first successful Dutch emissary to arrive in Japan in
1600. The Liefde arrived in Japan nearly two years after it left Rotterdam on 27 June
1598 with four other heavily armed ships. Their mission was to go to the Moluccas to buy spices as
well as to explore the Silver ryke (the Silver Empire) of Japan. They were later informed that they
were also to assault and plunder Spanish and Portuguese strongholds along their route in Africa and
Asia. Only the Leifde survived to reach the
Usuki Bay in Kyushu. The original 110 man crew was reduced to 24 emaciated survivors. The
Japanese inhabitants of the area pillaged the cannons, rifles, and other assorted weapons, as well as the
figurehead of the ship, a representation of Erasmus
(which can still be seen at the National Museum in Tokyo). Crew members Jan Joosten van
Lodensteyn and the single Englishman aboard the ship, William Adams, were taken to Tokugawa
Ieyasu in Edo to be interrogated by a Portuguese interpreter. The Shogun was pleased with their
responses and crewmembers were compensated for their losses and were allowed to live in Japanese
society. This initial meeting with Tokugawa gave the Dutch permission to trade with Japan. (Dutch)

Cases around the Fourth Ammendment
1) The US Supreme Court held the Fourth Amendment only protects the right of privacy for a person
when the individual actually expects privacy. In addition, the individual s expectation of privacy needs
to be reasonable. Rosanna have a ten foot fence surrounding the garden by her house. She has a
reasonable expectation of privacy for the contents inside of that particular garden, and she expects
privacy since she had put up a tall privacy fence for that purpose. However, she has no expectation of
privacy for the open field garden located next to the road. This garden is in an open field, an
expectation of privacy is unreasonable to a reasonable person. Since she did not put up any fence
around this garden, it shows that Rosanna have no expectation of privacy for this garden. Therefore,
the Fourth Amendment protection of individual s expectation of privacy only protects the privacy of
Rosanna s garden next to her house and not the open field garden next to the road. 2) Based on the
totality of the circumstances, the officer pulled Mr. Hightower based on unreasonable suspicion and
no probable cause. Mr. Hightower from Metropolis drove a late model Corvette at around 3 am down
Main Street does not arouse suspicion to a reasonable person. In addition, the arresting officer did not
witness Mr. Hightower commit any traffic violation or any crime and it is legal to drive around the
city at 3 am. The officer violated Mr. Hightower s Fourth Amendment right of protection of unlawful

Four Earth Systems
The hydrosphere, geosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere, are the four Earth systems that have many
interactions between each other. Many of these interactions are for the good or bad of the
environment. The hydrosphere is all water on earth like groundwater, rivers, oceans, glaciers, etc. The
geosphere is things such as rock, landforms, molten rock, volcanoes, minerals, soil, etc. The biosphere
consist of all living things, like plants or animals. The atmosphere is the envelope of gases
surrounding the Earth, this is known as air. One interaction is between the geosphere and the

Margaret Sanger s A Moral Necessity For Birth Control
Public discussions of birth control were criminalized under the Comstock Act of 1873 because people
believed it was immoral. Margaret Sanger, who had opened the first birth control clinic in 1916
despite the Comstock Act of 1873, was a feminist and advocate. After serving prison time, Sanger
returned publicly and illegally with drive to present a strong argument that defended the moral use of
birth control. Prior to her morally controversial 1921 speech, Sanger was arrested in New York for her
intent to advocate public knowledge pertaining to birth control. Although the ethical nature of using
birth control is still controversial in America, Margaret Sanger s 1921 speech A Moral Necessity for

William E. Nelson stated in Criminality and Sexual Morality in New York that New York was then
primarily the most populous state and the economic and cultural leader of the nation . Thus, the
outcomes of the law hypothetically showed how socio political forces influenced the law s treatment
of sexual immorality and gender related violence in New York (W. E. Nelson).
The law was an experiment. Because the law was then recent and new to the public, the outcomes
were expected to produce preliminary hypotheses about more general national developments (Yale
Journal of Law the Humanities, Vol. 5: 265). This was important because the American populace
could not be defined by or categorized with the demographic in New York circa 1920. Additionally,
the law could not physically prevent any public citizen from professing such profane and immoral
knowledge. Comstock and Sanger both recognized the inevitability of sexual intercourse, but they
perceived differently which aspects of sexual intercourse were immoral, and as a result, they differed
in their methods of influencing the public politically. During that era, the entirety of sexual intercourse
(irrespective to the practice of married couples with intentions to procreate) was deemed immoral.
This was because any practice of sexual activity was

Huckleberry Finn Ending
Many critics argue that the ending to Huckleberry Finn is poor because it shows a regression of Huck
s character that negates much of the growth Huck experiences throughout his journey down the
Mississippi River and changes the novel s focal point onto Tom rather than Huck. Tom Quirk, author
of articles on American literature and specifically many studies of Mark Twain, states that the ending
of the novel essentially disregarded whatever moral growth and social seriousness the narrative had
acquired in favor of rather trivial burlesque on the grounds that there was a certain consistency and
aptness to the gesture. Huck s journey down the Mississippi serves as a coming of age story in that
Huck learns to follow his own conscious and determine

  • 2. Book Report On Kenan s List Kenan Trebničević was living in Bosnia during the time of the ethnic cleansing that happened. In his book, The Bosnia List, Kenan tells about his experience with the war that him and his family had to live through. Kenan had very skeptical views about how his homeland turned out to be after the war, but once he traveled back to Bosnia with his family his perspective was greatly changed. Kenan was about thirty years old when he decided he was going to make a list of all of the things that he wanted to do when he got back to Bosnia. After traveling back, he soon realized that things were much different than he anticipated, and he decided to make a new list. When Kenan made his original list it had a lot of hate in it. The first item on Kenan s new list was, Thank God for Obren, who warned Dad and Mujo away from the Partizan Sports Hall (Trebničević 297). The Partizan Sports Hall was a popular place that Kenan and his family occupied a lot. This is the place that Kenan was able to learn karate as a child from his coach Pero. But, it was also a place where innocent people were being taken during the ethnic cleansing that happened in Bosnia. • 4. The Day I Lost My Innocence The day I lost my innocence was the day my life was forever changed. For the past couple of days we have been hearing about the civil wars in the different Liberian counties. I can hear the fear in my dad s voice as he tells me of the horrible things the rebels are doing. They are killing all of the people that do not support or believe in what they are doing. I am from one of the richest countries in the world, blessed with many natural resources. This small West African country called Liberia, is one of the world s largest exporters of rubber, diamonds, and gold. But this beautiful country will never hold the esteemed place that it once held. War has torn this beautiful land a part. I hate wars, I hate everything about them. If I had the power and the chance to do great things in this world, I would do everything in my power to stop people from fighting war; so that people don t have to die. But interestingly, my view on wars was not always this way. At one point in my life, the idea of war was exciting to me, mostly because it was always glorified. From what I saw on television, war movies were depicted with beautiful story lines that made me want to take part in that exhilarating experience. But this view was suddenly changed when I was forced to take a man s life. My troubles all started just one month ago when the rebels finally took over the capital city of Liberia, called Monrovia. I awoke to barrels of gun fire, everything I knew and loved to do was takin from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Closer Look at Pluralism Reading over the brilliant work of Michael Walzer s What does it mean to be an American I have discovered that the identity of Americans is that of a melting pot. We , as Americans, promote an abundance of cultures that are interconnected to make our country the amazing place it is today. Walzer believes in the diversity of America, he realizes that America s cultural diversity is part of what makes us the best country in the world. Walzer knows that pluralism and national unity go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other. Even with the existence of dozens of ethnos that have the right to vote and live freely as U.S. citizens, we are not in jeopardy of acquiring any negative consequences. As walzer stated one can reasonably argue that ethnic pluralism is entirely compatible with the existence of a unified republic. Walzer s opinion on pluralism is diverse as the word would indicate. To begin with, he stresses the importance of keeping immigration open, and we should be strongly against any government issued law that would cut off immigrants coming into this country. No one is indigenous to this country, so in a sense, we are all immigrants. It is morally repugnant to allow some to come, while turning others away. Next, he states that we should upgrade the schooling to help in the teaching of history and aid in immigrant awareness. Then, he goes on to discuss how essential it is to identify and aid in the nurturing of public political ability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of The Poem Enter Without So Much As Knocking By... In 1950 s Australia, post WWII, everyone wanted to be living the American Dream. Everyone wanted a nice house and a large backyard, cute kids and a stay at home wife, a stable job and a steady income, and all the material products in the world. In 1950 s Australia, Bruce Dawe wrote many poems. In three of his poems Enter Without So Much as Knocking; Americanized; and Breakthrough he used techniques such as language, juxtaposition and metaphors to express his views about the negative effects of consumerism, American influence and technology. In the poem Enter Without So Much as Knocking , Bruce Dawe uses the language of television to display the effect technology and advertisements had on daily Australian life in the 1950 s. In the first stanza, Dawe wrote ...first thing he heard was Bobby Dazzler on Channel 7: Hello, hello, hello all you lucky people... The stanza is focused on a ten day old baby who has been taken home and the first thing he hears is the catch phrase of a TV personality. This tells us that in Dawe s world, children are exposed to the news and the power of ads as young as possible, to force them into a life of technology and big companies. In stanza three, the language becomes more demanding and jarring. Dawe uses capitalization, repetition and short sentences to create a list of rules society is being forced to follow. He uses road rules such as walk. Don t walk. Turn left. No parking, and the lack of emotion in the words highlights how he believes this is not the way to live. The fifth stanza is written as the adult. It s a long sentence filled with the jargon of advertising and superficial connections to family and friends, and through this language use Dawe shows us exactly what he s afraid of. Americanized is, as the title suggests, a poem about American influence. It is an extended metaphor, where the mother in the poem is America, the child being Australia, and their relationship which is not built on trust or love but rather need and fear. This basic human relationship has been twisted by Dawe to show that the consumer lifestyle America brought to Australia is taking away the Australian identity. The poem starts with She loves him... and although this emotive language makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Why Elephants Are Scared Of Mice Why Elephants Are Scared of Mice Thousands of years ago in Africa, elephants roamed the Earth without a single worry. Their immense size and strength had caused them to develop exaggerated pride, overconfidence and the belief that they were superior to all other creatures. George in particular, was no exception. He was more egotistic and arrogant than the entire elephant race combined. George only allowed the others to refer to himself as Master George and was incredibly irritated when smaller creatures would even glance at him without proper deference. Due to physical weakness and miniature size, most field mice had grown completely obedient, cowardly and feeble in character. Elephants such as George would often bully, hurt or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George the elephant was of the opinion that he there was nobody as attractive or intelligent as himself. For this reason he presumed that it was a waste of time for him to meet other female elephants to build a family with. Therefore, George s only task was to find water for himself. Pedro on the other hand, had recently encountered a stunning female mouse who he cared for a great deal. Although he was challenged to find enough water for two beings, his size was finally an advantage due to the fact that mice required less water than larger creatures. After hours of searching for even the smallest bodies of water, Pedro eventually came across a sizeable puddle. His hard work had payed off; he was ready to return home to provide water to his partner. However, in order to continue his journey, Pedro needed several gulps of water himself. As Pedro drank blissfully, he noticed a large silhouette approaching the puddle. He could recognize this creature anywhere. It was an elephant. It didn t take George a long time to discover puddles that had not yet dried. George only needed to stand on his hind legs to see all the bodies of water around. He would then walk towards the pond, and proceed to use his long trunk to suck up the remaining water. After having used his methods on four different puddles, George casually strolled in the direction of the fifth. He was about to begin consuming the water, when he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Cause And Effects Of The Cambodian Genocide During times of trouble it is the structure of families which bring stability and fuel resilience. Families often support each other to survive a trauma because they are support systems. The Cambodian genocide led by the Khmer Rouge regime attempted to tear apart families and exploit their special bond. The Khmer Rouge soldiers took towns captive or burned them, and recruited youths to join their cause (Pran IX). From 1975 to 1979, all Cambodians were forced to live in labor camps and were forced to work fourteen to eighteen hours a day with only a single bowl of rice to eat. Family members were separated from one another purposefully to lower morale. During this period an estimated one third of Cambodian s population died due to malnutrition, illness, and execution (Pran X). Children of Cambodia s Killing Fields: Memoirs by Survivors compiled by Dith Pran is important because it confirms the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime, explains how the Khmer Rouge gained power, and how the Khmer Rouge attempted to indoctrinate young children against their parents. In the 1950s Cambodia gained its independence from France and became peacefully ruled by Prince Sihanouk. In the 1960s, Cambodia was dragged into the Vietnam War and in 1970, the prime minister General Lon Nol assumed power and announced the implementation of the Khmer Republic and sent the Khmer Republic s army to fight the North Vietnamese in Cambodia (Smith Hefner 264). • 12. Essay On The Difference Between Civil Law And American... Compared to the rest of the industrialized world, the United States is a fairly young country. As a result, the U.S. has many institutions that differ from other advanced industrial democracies. One of the most prominent differences between the U.S. and the rest of the industrialized world resides in our legal systems. While the most common democratic judicial tradition, especially in social democracies, is the civil law tradition, the U.S. differs and has a common law legal tradition. Many differences exist between civil and common law traditions and the United States legal system would have stark changes if it switched to a civil legal system. A key difference between civil and common law legal systems is the role of the legal code. In civil law, the legal code is the supreme source of justice in a society; a handbook on citizen rights, responsibilities, and the law (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.97). In civil law, the the legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In common law systems, less emphasis is placed on strictly following the words of the legal code, but rather following the precedent set by previous cases findings. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, judges in common law nations have a prestigious connotation attached to their role. They hold a highly sought after position and earn their black robe through the culmination of their legal career. With the defendant under the presumption of innocence, these judges and the court act as neutral actors and let the two opposing sides argue their case in front of a jury. Because of this, the common law system is referred to as adversarial (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.100). One of the biggest differences amongst common and civil law systems is the role of judicial review. Unlike in nations with civil law, common law societies have a tremendous amount of judicial review oversight of legislative or executive actions by the judiciary (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, ... • 13. Research Paper On Shakespeare I assume everyone already knows that Shakespeare invented many new words in the English language, but have you ever stopped and thought about just why he did it? People don t make up new words for no reason; they make them up because there is a need. In Shakespeare s case, that need was because of his time period and the ideas he wanted to express. Let me explain: Shakespeare wrote his plays, poems, and other works during the time of Elizabethan England. This is a very interesting time period in history because many new revolutions and reforms were taking place. The most important one regarding Shakespeare was the Italian Renaissance. You see, Early Modern English which is what we call the English that Shakespeare wrote in was very messy regarding its structure and vocabulary when you compared it to languages such as Latin and Greek. When Shakespeare was starting to write his works, the English language was going through incredible changes, absorbing and integrating words from other languages due to the events that were happening in the 1600s such as colonization, exploration, war, and others. There was a huge return to philosophical thinking in Italy and a new way of expressing ideas that we today call the Renaissance. Of course the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its constitution is Almighty God s Book, The Holy Qur an, and the Sunna (Traditions) of the Prophet (PBUH). Arabic is the language of the Kingdom ( The Royal Embassy ). The relationship between religion and the state can be explained in a variety of factors that ultimately influence the political, social and religious structure within a country. As the constitution of Saudi Arabia is based on the strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism, religious freedom policies are essentially non existent. In general, the government does not recognize the principle of separation of religion and state. For example, it is illegal to practice non Muslim religions in public; however the government has publically stated that it allows non Muslims to worship in private ( Saudi Arabia , 2004). This right, however, is not guaranteed in practice and is not a constitutional right ( Saudi Arabia , 2004). A 2017 Pew Research Center report reinforced Saudi Arabia s single monopoly rule policies by including it as part of 23 out of 198 countries to earn the distinction of having very high government restrictions on religion ( Global , 2017). Similarly, Saudi Arabia also received a high rating on the Pew Research Center s Social Hostilities Index, which measures aggression by private individuals, organizations or groups in society, such as religion related harassment and terrorism (Fahmy, 2018). Another prominent example of religious restrictions is the inability for a Muslim to convert to another religion. A Muslim who attempts to convert to another religion can be charged and sentenced to death if he or she does not recant (Beehner, 2007). Strict restrictions on religious freedom and expression have allowed Sunni Islam to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Movies In Movies Movies have been around since the late 1800 s in various forms and have always been at the center of water cooler debates because of their ability to push the boundaries of social norms. Because movies are entertainment, they can fall victim to becoming boring and mundane after a while, this is why the boundaries of what we see portrayed on screen are always moving. Lyden (2003) states We are beginning to realize that we cannot understand or interpret our society except in its relation to these unavoidable additions to it. Some welcome them and some fear them, but they are here to stay (p.1). For as long as I can remember, I ve been an avid fan of movies. I have enjoyed everything from action to drama; comedy to suspense, but the one thing that is immutable about my experience is the self apparent change in the morals and values depicted in film. It is the ability of movies to make us feel a certain way, as well as influence social conciseness that makes the moralities that drive them important to examine. How do movies continue to push the boundaries of our expectations, without exploring the fringes of cultural and social morality? What is the damage to our psyches when the things depicted on the big screen challenge the established moral norms? However, due to a declining workforce and a lack of skilled workers, more immigrants are urgently needed. David Olive, author of this source in The Toronto Star, believes that Canada needs to be more welcoming to immigrants for the sake of the economy. Compared to Canadian natives, immigrants face a plethora of problems in regards to finding jobs. In Canada there is a stubborn gap between skilled first generation immigrants and the general population when it comes to being able to secure employment, decent housing and adequate pay . Potential immigrants often opt out of immigration because to them it isn t worth it if they have to take lower paying jobs that aren t in their original field of work. Immigrants often convey these struggles and challenges to their home country consequently discouraging other potential immigrants. Solving the issues immigrants currently confront is thus integral to the long term prosperity of Canada s economy . The source recommends fast tracking credentials while the immigrant is in their home country as well as allowing temporary foreign workers and international students (who have graduated from Canada) to have a quicker way to permanent residence. Through this source, David Olive is ultimately trying to say that for Canada s economy to stay competitive, we must help immigrants arrive here, and make their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First the model house must be constructed from balsa wood blocks and held together by a combination of glue and staples. Then the windows will be constructed, with plexiglass substituting for glass Next, the actual window opening apparatus must be created in AutoDesk Inventor before being 3D printed. This apparatus will be connected to the Arduino module, which will be programmed to control the functions of the house and making sure everything runs effectively and efficiently. Super was one of the first theorists to discuss the constantly evolving nature of career development, and the importance of finding a balance between career and personal life. Super s developmental model emphasized how personal experiences interact with occupational preferences in creating one s self concept. Super discussed how each of us progress through various life and career development stages, including growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and disengagement. He also discussed that each of us take on different roles as we go through life, such as a child, student, leisurite, citizen, worker, parent, and spouse. Each of these roles has an impact on our personal and professional development, and on our work/life balance. Finally, his archway of career determinants detailed how both personality characteristics (intelligence, needs, values) and societal characteristics (labor market, school, family) influence our career choices and have a major impact on our career development. The law was an experiment. Because the law was then recent and new to the public, the outcomes were expected to produce preliminary hypotheses about more general national developments (Yale Journal of Law the Humanities, Vol. 5: 265).
