Review Of The Short Story Mojave Rats
As Coretta Scott King once said, The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the
compassionate actions of its members. The short story Mojave Rats by Kristin Valdez Quade explores
the relationship between Monica, who offers no compassion to the people around her, her daughters
Cordelia and Beatrice, and her second husband Elliot. They moved from Los Angeles to Shady Lanes
RV park in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Monica feels superior and out of place and lives convinced that
Elliott will soon finish his geological expedition so that they can climb into academia and live a
flawless and carefree life as a happy family. They live isolated from the rest of their community and
Monica does not have any allies to help her through her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monica is fueled by the enjoyment she feels while tormenting Cordelia. The discipline frightens
Cordelia and most likely further silences her from bringing up and thinking about Monica s past,
which (unsuccessfully) forces Cordelia to immerse herself fully in their new life. The exhilaration that
Monica experiences shows that she is happy to part with her past, but she is simultaneously torn
because she feels that she is not fit for her present conditions and is not ready to settle with them.
Setting aside her motives to hurt Cordelia, Monica s decision to give the dress away is a step in the
right direction of accepting her current state. At the end of the story, Elliot comes home and fixes their
thermostat that had been broken through the whole story. After endless complaints about the cold,
...While her family slept below her in the grey dawn light, she would place her cheek back on the
pillow and watch them, waiting for them to stir, and she wouldn t even notice that she was finally
warm (57). Her family, slept below her , as she looked down on her new family situation feeling like
an outsider. There is an interesting distinction between Monica not feeling the cold and Cordelia s
inability to feel the heat. Monica does not feel that her actions are

Health Education And Planning Assessments
Within certain themes within Health Education, planning assessments can be used to show
understanding e.g. weekly food plans within the Physical Health content. Overall Health Education
would be an excellent addition to work alongside PSHE and Citizenship, the making of a statutory
health education would highly benefit its pupils in their personal development.
The second subject to be added into the curriculum would be Multi Media studies. This subject will
reflect today s society and teach skills that are needed due the growth of technology (Wise 2000;
Bazalgette 2010). Multi Media studies would involve aspects of other subjects such as I.C.T, music,
business and technology, thus allowing for cross curricular work to take place (Howard, ... Show more

This is because as discussed in the National Association for the Education of Young Children (2016),
young children also want to use technology that older individuals use (National Association for the
Education of Young Children, 2016). By providing Multi Media as a subject it means younger
children can seek and develop their own skills and creativity through the basic use of technology e.g.
using basic computer programs/ learning how to take a photo on a camera. Furthermore while there is
a current GCSE called Media Studies (AQA, 2016), it can only be studied within year 9 onwards
meaning pupils might not have learnt any skills within the previous years regarding media which
could be a disadvantage for some. The GCSE is also time constricted as it has to be taught within just
two years.
Similar to that of the current I.C.T subject within the national curriculum, Multi Media studies will
allow for creativity (Department for Education, 2013), the amount of areas of study mean that pupils
can thrive and creative within the subject. The National Advisory Committee on Creative and Cultural
Education (1998:3) report states that there is stronger emphasis on creative and cultural education .
The Multi Media Studies subject would allow for creativity to be shown through numerous ways such
as through graphic design, game design, filming, editing as well as broadcasting and photography.
As a result of the content that will be within the program of study, pupils will

Genocide And The Holocaust
Genocide is one of the most tragic events that can happen around the world. Identifying the stages is
the most crucial part of stopping these horrible acts. The Bosnian Genocide and the Holocaust could
have been prevented or stopped if the 8 stages were properly identified . There are 8 stages of
genocide and the first stage is Classification. Classification is putting people into groups based on
race, ethnicity, and religion. These groups usually are separated into the superior people and the
inferior people. In the holocaust the Nazis targeted minorities, more specifically the Jewish people.
The Jews were seen as the inferior race and they needed to be eliminated according to the nazis. The
second stage of genocide is symbolization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage of genocide is called polarization. Polarization is where they separate the population. The
SS and Nazis used propaganda to convince the german population the the Jewish people were the root
of all evil. They used posters and videos to make this happen. Poster depicted Jews as being ape like
with large noses and a slanted forehead. The most prevalent example of this is the Hitler Youth, they
were brainwashed using propaganda so they would believe that everything Hitler said was morally
right. The people that rebelled and did not believe the propaganda were eliminated. The next stage of
genocide and the first step of the systematic killing is preparation. Preparation is when the target group
is put together and combined to make it easier for extermination. In the Bosnian Genocide men and
women were moved to concentration camps where they would be held until they were killed. The
Serbs overthrew the law enforcement and roamed the streets rounding up Bosniaks, making sure none
got away. They executed anyone that was thought to be strong enough to rebel instantly. The most
gruesome stage of Genocide is Extermination. Extermination is the killing of the targeted group. They
use the word extermination because they do not view the victims as humans and they are making them
feel like rats or insects by using this term. In the Holocaust they had many ways of killing the Jews,
the SS and Nazis used, starvation, exhaustion, mobile shooting squads, and gas

A Humean Critique of Descartes Essay
A Humean Critique of Descartes
Montreal has big potholes. Lots of them. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and
Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in
Montreal. Hume would probably repave the roads based on the success of past designs and the results
of empirical data. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed after
attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with new
foundations and new directions. This allegory underlines a central question of a Hume Descartes
comparison: if Hume s road to knowledge needs improvement, does Descartes know where to start or
where he is going? The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes used relations of ideas as the foundation for his method for acquiring knowledge. Descartes
writes that disciplines which rely on composite things are doubtful, and arithmetic and geometry
contain something certain and indubitable (Descartes 61). For example, 2+3=5 is a relation of ideas
because 2+3 #8800;5 is a contradiction. The Discourse on Method constitutes a series of
demonstrative reasonings. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and demonstrative,
mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought that logical deduction
from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world.
Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to accumulation of
data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation which governs our
understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which ignores experience cannot
draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact (Hume17). This is the central
proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not by reason, but by experience (17).
For Hume, empiricism paves the way to knowledge and custom, the codified accumulation of
knowledge, serves as the great guide of human life (28). Knowledge is simply a belief reinforced by
experience a far cry from the Cartesian certainty and clarity. The collection of

The Sign Of The Four, And The Red Badge Of Courage, By...
Great Expectations , The Sign of the Four , and The Red Badge of Courage are books written with
literary elements as building block for storytelling. Each first chapter uses character development,
setting description, and many types of conflict to interest the reader. Even though all of the stories
contain these elements, some are used more than others. Great Expectations and The Red Badge of
Courage focus on the setting and character description more than The Sign of The Four where the
element on conflict is heavily used. In the first chapter of Great Expectations the reader is introduced
to Pip who is looking at the tombstones of his birth family that he never knew in the graveyard of a
church on top of a hill. His mother, father, and five infant babies were all buried together as told in the
story (Dickens,2016). Charles Dickens chose to implement the setting of the story while also
introducing some of the characters. The story uses direct characterization when a man appears to
threaten Pip. The man is described as beaten up with torn shoes and wet clothes and a knife that he
uses to scare Pip which leads to conflict (Dickens,2016). The type of conflict that occurs is classified
as man versus man. Dickens uses conflict to describe what Pip looks like when the man steals a piece
of bread from Pip because he is hungry and then threatens to cut Pips cheek off and eat it. He then
describes himself in first person that he does not have much fat on his body (Dickens,2016). Two
more characters are introduced when the man asks Pip who he lives with since his parents are dead.
Pip responds and says that he lives with his sister and the man she is married to who happens to be a
blacksmith (Dickens,2016). When the man put the knife to Pips throat and told him to fetch him a file,
it motivated Pip because his life depended on it (Dickens,2016). His behavior towards the conflict is
that he obeys what the man has told him to do and agrees to his terms (Dickens,2016). Arthur Doyle s
book The Sign of The Four it is shown that conflict and character development are heavily focused on
when telling the story. The reader is first introduced to a main character who witnesses a man named
Sherlock Holmes

Abuse Power In The Crucible
Another lesson I learned from reading The Crucible, is to not abuse power. Abusing power is using
power to an advantage in a bad way. Good leaders use their power to influence people in a positive
way, while bad leaders use their power mainly for personal benefits. In the play, many of the
characters with power abused it. They took complete control of situations influencing other characters
to do bad things. One character from the book that abuses his power is Judge Danforth. Danforth ran
all the trials for the witches , and was completely unfair. He made it basically impossible for an
accused witch to be innocent. He also didn t allow suspects to have lawyers or anyone give
information that disagreed with him. He considered different opinions as contempt of court . When
Mr. Nurse was clashing with Danforth over the issue, Danforth said, do you know who I am, Mr.
Nurse? (Act lll, Scene l) This shows that Danforth has the cocky mindset that he is above everyone.
Good leaders should be able to listen to critics. Danforth believed that everyone accused was a witch;
so he didn t even bother giving them a fair chance. Many people died under his signature. He used his
power to contribute to the destruction of the town and many lives. Another example from the book
deals with the ringleader of the group of girls caught in the woods; Abigail Williams. Abigail
happened to be the leader of the group, and was completely evil. Abigail was able to influence a whole
group of girls to

That exquisite little hyacinth. He pulled it out from under dad s garden, sealed in a ziploc bag. Yes, a

Good And Evil In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Another powerful symbol used to portray the theme of evil is the staff. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses this
symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first shown as
the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as remarkable was his
staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454). Goodman Brown was
mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree of Good and Evil. The staff
is shown as a symbol of a serpent, which is usually a strong symbol of evil and slyness. The serpent is
normally painted with such negative nouns because of the infamous personality it holds according to

Brown then succumbs to the temptation. Hawthorne then adds the symbolic moment before he
ventures out which is when he finds his wife s ribbon and he begins to cry out that he has loss of his
Faith. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of Goodman Brown s wife
then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown recognizes that he is losing his
faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into sin and there is nothing for him to do
because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted his fallen state. There is no good on
earth, and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given (Hawthorne, 456) Hawthorne
then connects this to the biblical story when the snake tempted Eve and the snake was the form of the
devil. Hawthorne uses different metaphors to explain the questionable actions of the snake and how it
is a strong symbol of the development of the

Let Me Know You Essay
Let Me Know You
My work Let Me Know You is a performance: without the audiences knowing what is going to
happen, I sniff their body from toe to head like an animal, with no physical touching. The most of
audiences feel uncomfortable during the performance, others, try to sniff me back at the same time.
Humans are commonly known to have five primary senses: sight, hearing, taste, touching and smell,
governed by five important organs: eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. Smell is often ignored , though,
it plays an important role in our daily life without people noticing it. The purpose of my performance
is to remind people to explore all their senses, be more aware of the surroundings and their own body.
I developed new respects on objects that we see daily, and grew more appreciations of human nature.
Scent takes a much important position in animal s world. People who have pets often notice that cats
take long time to find biscuits near their face. It is because their sights are bad in short distance, and
they rely on nose to locate food; in the wild, big cats spray urine to make their territory, average 300
square kilometers; in the water, a shark can sense one drop of blood in a million drops of water; dogs
smells each others anus at the first time they meet, they only shut down their tails to hide their odour
when they are scared or dominated. Human, instead, are trying to conceal body odour as much as they
can. Being smelly is seen as rude and insanitary. Shampoos

A Brief Overview of the Topic
The cruise industry has undergone a number of significant changes from the days of tropical vacations
and the days of transoceanic transportation, when the cruising services were only available to the
domain of the elites in the society (Murphy, 2016). Today, the cruising industry has grown to a modern
multimillion leisure and tourism industry, which provides an affordable option of vacation and a level
of comfort, which is difficult to match for the average citizen (Chang, Park, Liu, Roh, 2016). In
addition, the number of people who cruise has been experiencing a significant increment over the
years across the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The alternatives and choices that have been provided by these companies include sailing vessels,
smaller cruise ships, and yachts (Hung Petrick, 2016). These alternatives and choices carry a few
passengers to regulated ports, exotic destinations, and remote destinations, which are prohibited to
larger ships of liners due to the concern of the effect of the influx of passengers on the local
environment.
The changes that have occurred in the cruise industry need to be exhaustively discussed in order to
understand the how the industry has undergone transformation over the years. As such, this paper will
critically discuss the cruise industry and the changes that it has undergone over the years. This will
help in providing information about this industry including its contribution to the global economy in
terms of job creation among other positive and negative impacts that it has had on the global economy.

American Sign Language And Numerical Stories
A Z stories in American Sign Language and numerical stories as well were introduced around the
1940 s (Bauman). Gilbert Eastman stated that A Z and numerical stories were most likely created as
early as the 1900 s at the Ohio School for the Deaf (Bauman). However, with the advanced technology
of the 20th century American Sign Language numerical and A Z stories may be cherished and
videorecorded for future generations (American Sign Language Literature). What are A Z and
numerical stories? A Z stories are stories created in American Sign Language that begin with the letter

Although, there rules that apply to both forms of storytelling. The first rule is that the story
incorporates paralinguistic mechanisms such as pausing, space, etc. (Bauman). The second rule is that
the story flows naturally, and clearly makes sense. It is not allowed that a storyteller has a story that is
choppy or jumpy to the point that the viewer does not understand. One of the most important rules is
that the storyteller succeeds in continuing the story in alphabetical, or numerical, order. Similarly, if
one tells the story in the reverse order, one cannot skip a letter, or number (Bauman). Lastly, for
alphabetical stories there are allowable deviations and those that are not allowed. For example, many
storytellers interchange 2 hand shapes such as N, H, U, and V. This deviation, along with the
interchange of the 3 hand shapes M and W, are allowable deviations (Bauman). However, the usage of
the time out sign as T in A Z stories is an example of a deviation that is not allowed (Bauman). These
vital rules to alphabetical and numerical storytelling aid in contributing to the overall purpose. A Z and
numerical stories have multiple purposes, however, the main purpose is that of a source of
entertainment (American Sign Language Literature). Similar to our American Sign Language class,
classes throughout the world are assigned to create or research A Z and numerical stories for school

Environmental interventions that can be used to orient the client when they are in times of confusion,
stress or overstimulation can be to place calendars, clocks, and family pictures in the client s room.
Another possible intervention is for the caregiver to help orient and reduce possible agitation. Sensory
overload can also result in patient stress and anxiety, which may be due to environmental noise levels
that are particularly high in the ICU. Interventions can include limiting noise in and around the client s
room and helping the client understand noises that cannot be prevented. Conversation can be stressful
to hear for some patients, even more so if it is about the client. Stress can be reduced by staff by
finding a more appropriate place in the unit away from the client for client related discussion.
Decreasing or muting the noise of phones, setting alarms based on client conditions and reducing
unnecessary alarms can also help to limit noise. For example, when assessing a client s blood pressure,
making sure to silence the alarm when handling BP devices or invasive lines and remembering to reset
them when done help reduce noise levels for the patient. It is useful to remember that pharmacological
treatments given to improve delirium may themselves cause delirium or increase sedation. Almost

Puritans Religious Beliefs
The English reformed Protestants would be funded to establish a new colony in the America s with
almost radical ideals. They were called the Puritans, but shaped American history. John Winthrop led
the expedition that bring this religion across the sea with good and pure examples. Puritan ideas and
beliefs affected the political reign as well as the economy, not to mention the entire society.
Their religious ideals would shape almost everything about the community, as well as country. The
church was a mandatory attendance in Puritan communities. While not all attendees were full
members, things such as how the town would run and voting were decided by the church. For the
Puritans, religious and political life were completely intertwined. (Puritans in America, Study, 2017)
The Puritans believed that God had a unique covenant with them, and that they were expected to live
by the beliefs of the scriptures. Just as other religious beliefs, such as the Amish, they had no tolerance
for drinking, sex without procreating. Many were often left in fear of what their ultimate fate was after
death, whether eternal salvation or damnation. Because of their mandatory expectations, early
migrants of the Massachusetts Bay colonies were full members of the Puritan churches. The church
was very strict in their beliefs, and in their influence in the colonies. This fear and worship would be
prevalent in most American religious, as well as their study and sacrifice.

Approximately 70,000 100,000 Americans have sickle cell anemia, the most common form of an
inherited blood disorder that causes the production of abnormal hemoglobin, a protein that attaches to
oxygen in the lungs and carries it to all parts of the body.1 Sickle cell anemia is a inherited disorder
which causes the manifestation of unreliable hemoglobin resulting unevenly shaped red blood cells,
recognized as sickle cells. People with sickle cell disease have red blood cells that have mostly
hemoglobin S, an irregular type of hemoglobin opposite of what a person has without this disease.
Sometimes these red blood cells become sickle shaped like a moon crescent and have difficulty

In the United States, 1 in 400 African American newborns have the disease; other people affected
include Hispanics, people of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern descent, and Asians. 2 Sickle cell

months of age or older.
Someone who inherits only one sickle cell gene and a normal gene from the other parent will have the
sickle cell trait, but not the disease. People with sickle cell trait don t have sickle cell disease and
typically don t show signs of the disorder, but they can pass the gene for the disease to their children
and etc. Even thought sickle cell disease can cause severe health complications, some of these can be
life threatening. In other words people with sickle cell does not live as long compared to people who
do not have this disease.

Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel
Luke, I am Your Father The relationship between fathers and their sons is an unbreakable bond. Every
man who finds out his spouse is having a baby, wishes for a son. All throughout history, sons carried
on the family name and honor, and parts of that honor system still remain today. This unspoken bond
between father and son leads to many other aspects of the relationship. A son feels a responsibility to
care for his father when he is ailing, because the father does the same for him. These themes resound
in Elie Wiesel s novel Night which was written about Wiesel s experiences in Nazi concentration
camps. This novel revolves around the father/son relationship in which Eliezer experiences first hand
and witnesses from afar.

Eliezer was horrified by the thought, let alone to witness it with his own eyes. Eliezer fought with
tooth and nail to be able to keep his father close and alive. Other men just abandoned their fathers as if
they were merely a burden. After long hours of running and marching towards a different
concentration camp, the prisoners were finally able to take a break. Several prisoners died that night
from exhaustion. When it was time to leave, Eliezer describes the scene by saying, The dead remained
in the yard, under the snow without even a marker, like fallen guards....Sons abandoned the remains of
their fathers without a tear, (Pg 92). Elie was horrified by this sight and was thankful that his father
was still alive. The only reason neither Elie or his father passed away that night was because they
watched out for one another to make sure they did not pass away. That is an incredible bond. Elie was
always watching out for his father, and vice versa; however, others sons wished for their fathers
deaths, as to relieve a dead weight.
Some sons abused their fathers in order to show their personal strength. When everyone was being
transferred to another concentration camp, the men were not given food. When the train passed by a
certain German city, the onlookers threw bread into the train cars. A piece of bread was thrown into
Elie s car and it was chaos. There was a certain old

Examples Of Metaphors In The White Tiger
Research Question: How does Aravind Adiga use metaphors in The White Tiger to highlight the
contrast between the different sections of Indian society?
Introduction:
Typically, we identify metaphors to be the figure of speech that draws an indirect comparison to bring
out an enhanced rhetoric effect. However, metaphors are so strongly ingrained in our language, that all
of us think, write, and even speak in metaphors every day. Ironically, the word metaphor itself is a
metaphor, as metaphor stems from a Greek word that means transfer or carry across . In the literal
sense, metaphors transfer meaning from one idea to another, typically associating it with a word.
Aravind Adiga s The White Tiger is an epistolary novel consisting of ... Show more content on

The only two options for people in the country is eat or get eaten up . In this jungle, which is India, the
different animals correspond the inhabitants that play a major role in the workings of the country. The
buffalo, the stork, the mongoose, and even the White Tiger are assigned these titles primarily because
of their personality which aligns sublimely with the nature stereotypically associated with these
animals.
The overall metaphor of the White Tiger represents what it is like to break out of the never ending
chaos present in the jungle like world. Balram refers to this world as The Darkness . As he is the
White Tiger , he possesses the required skills to break out of the Rooster Coop and find order unlike
the other inhabitants of the darkness.
Throughout the novel, Arvind Adiga uses a plethora of metaphors to describe the happenings of
Balram Halwai, and his activities. In addition to this, the author repeatedly uses ironic, and sarcastic
phrases to condemn the upper class Indian society, or citizens from the light . This brings out several
key themes in the novel, including

Homosexuality Essay
Homosexuality
No one knows exactly how homosexuality entered into human history. I would imagine that the
practices associated with the erotic attraction of people to one s own gender have been around since
the dawn of humanity. The earliest accounts of homosexual behavior seem to be found in ancient
pagan religious practices. At least, the pagans included homosexuality in the worship of various gods.
Whether the inclusion in worship was because the practice was already a part of the society at large or
if the pagan worship introduced the practice is impossible to determine, although some understandings
of Paul s writings argue for the latter.
Human beings began to worship many gods very early in human history. These early gods ... Show

Male gods could plant seeds and were therefore seen as more productive than the female gods to
some. When a man ejaculated his semen into another man s anus at the shrine, he was depositing more
male power to the gods. With the additional strength of the semen of many men, the god could then
insure a bountiful crop, a larger herd, and many children to care for the field. This practice grew into,
not only forms of pagan worship, but also a means of supplying money for the temple. Catamites,
boys and men who were exclusively used for passive anal sex, began to serve the temples. One must
wonder whether boys were sometimes forced into this kind of sexual contact due to economic
circumstances, much like their female counterparts. Women often survived only by prostitution since
they were allowed no inheritance. Orphan boys may often have found themselves in the same
predicament.
Regardless, it was very early in human history that both male and female prostitutes were used in
temple worship in order to raise funds for the temple, as well as support themselves.
Homosexuality in Ancient Greece
Greek culture is often promoted as the most accepting of homosexuality. To some extent, this may be
true. The Greeks developed a hedonistic attitude toward the human body and sexuality. Although we

Alternative Sources Of Energy From Fossil Fuels
Each day, advancing technology requires a stable source of fuel to produce the thousands of units of
energy being consumed by it. At present, this energy is derived from various sources with fossil fuels
being the largest by far. According to the United States Energy Information Administration, in 2014
sixty seven percent of the United State s energy was converted from fossil fuels. ( What is U.S.
Electricity Generation by Energy Source? ) Although fossil fuels are able to meet rising energy
demands, they are limited and toxic to this planet. For this reason, U.S. officials have already begun to
consider alternative sources of energy to break America s fossil fuel addiction; namely, liquid fuels
derived from various agricultural crops. However, using agriculture in this way infringes upon the
nation s food supply and the quantity of fuel produced is unable to meet rising fuel demands. Due to
this, a new, dedicated source of energy is needed. One proposed source is microalgae, a microscopic
plant life form that is neither a part of the food supply, or a detriment to the environment. In addition,
microalgae are able to produce copious amounts of liquid fuel in comparison to currently used crops.
America should invest in the production of microalgae for bio fuel to solve issues caused by modern
energy production processes. In the past, there have been significant events that have led to increased
awareness of energy production and the way it affects the planet. James A.

Malnutrition Associated With Chronic Disease
Alexis Aaron
Case Study #3 Malnutrition Associated with Chronic Disease Chronic diseases are characterized as a
condition lasting longer than three months and an acute illness is of a shorter duration. Malnutrition
associated with chronic diseases can be due to the fact that many patients with chronic diseases are
physically handicapped and unable to perform activities of daily living such as eating and driving
themselves to the store. Chronic diseases that could physically cause malnutrition like this include
rheumatoid arthritis or neuromuscular diseases such as stroke. Another way that malnutrition
associated with chronic disease can happen is through inflammation of the organs that can occur
during organ failure or pancreatic cancer and cause certain nutrients to not be absorbed at all.
Malnutrition associated with acute illness and inflammation can be caused by traumatic injuries such
as severe burns and major infections of the body. The inflammatory response is a defense mechanism
triggered by invading bacteria or severe injury. People who have been victims of these types of
injuries can sustain pretty severe damage to their metabolism caused by the inflammatory response
and can interfere with the nutrition therapy the RD is attempting to provide this can lead to unwanted
weight loss and malnutrition.

An Experiment On Social Media
If someone signed up for an experiment to just spend 500 dollars for an entire day they would never
regret it, right? Typically most people would be up to the idea and the sign up sheets would fill up
quick, even though there is a slight catch. The participant cannot be in contact with anyone they know,
which includes using social media. In hindsight, signing up for this experiment seemed like the perfect
opportunity to be alone and spend money on things like a movie ticket and popcorn, cute clothes, and
maybe even starbucks; however, I was sadly very wrong. The experiment started on February 14th and
I was excited to roam around Phoenix and spend money for the sake of psychological science. When
the researchers of different genders came to pick me up from my house I noticed that they had unique
name tags, instead of saying their names the name tags said researcher one and researcher two .
Mrs. Nyx? said researcher two as the female researcher detached her pen from her clipboard and
clicked the black ball point pen.
Yes, I replied while I stepped out of my house and lock the front door behind me. Both of the
researchers nodded and turned to walk towards their car while I followed behind. The male researcher
climbed into the front seat while researcher one sat next to me so she can debrief me for the
experiment.

Northup On Slavery
Black slaves were in the situation that little help would be given to the group from the society. As
Northup s thought when he first beat his master, An unfriended, helpless slave what could I do, what
could I say, to justify, in the remotest manner, the heinous act I had committed, of resenting a white
man s contumely and abuse (112). No one would help him even though what he did was fight back for
his unequal treatment. It seemed that slaves was born to be treated like this; they should only obey
their masters; they should take whatever the white gave; they should not complain about anything.
There was not right or wrong, but only what the white said and what the black obeyed. Northup wrote
helplessly:

The system of slave occurred in South instead of North mostly because of the planation economy in
the South. To support the slavery system, slavery holders used religions belief to explain their
misdeed. For instance, Mr. Tanner read Bible to his slaves, and emphasized the sentence that servant
which knew his lord s will, and prepared not himself, prepared not himself, neither did according to
his will, shall be beaten with many stripes (128). He used Bible to back up the idea that slaves have to
obey their masters, or they would face severe punishment. In fact, there is nothing wrong with the
Bible or Christianity. However, because of the slavery system, religions have been used in wrong way
that violate human s right. When southerners believed the righteous of slavery, they would keep
digging authoritative sources in order to protect it. With time went by, slavery penetrated in people s
mind and no one step forward to doubt it. In Northup s point of view, the wrong idea of slavery were

The Age Of Jackson By Andrew Jackson Essay
The Age of Jackson was a time when the high society aristocrats were threatened by the commoner.
Jackson was a common man himself; orphaned as a boy, Jackson, rose to the top and became an
admired general and commander in chief. Jackson affected the outlook on the class system, the
method of electing our president, the spread of the spoils system, the fighting between the north and
the south, the interactions between America and the Indians, and he helped lead our country to
inflation.
With Jackson s emaciated physical appearance, it is ironic that he had the personality of a fighter.
Andrew Jackson overall was a misfit in politics for a plethora of reasons that in turn had various
effects. Jackson frequently used his power to veto bills. He did this more than any other president
before him. This set the precedent for all future presidents to be more involved in the legislative
process. Not only did Jackson give the President a much needed voice in legislation, but he also
challenged the class system. Jackson became an orphan at a young age and took an interest in
cockfighting. Like his predecessor, Washington, he had no formal college education and was known to
have bad spelling habits. However, these disadvantages gave him a popularity increase with the lower
class common man. He was perceived to have a greater understanding of the common man, being a
common man himself. Jackson s involvement in the end of the War of 1812 was a major success for
him. At the Battle of

According to the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, the definition of vernacular is of, relating to, or
being a nonstandard language or dialect of a place, region, or country. In terms of African American
history, the evolution of vernacular is very important and a very unique part of the culture. The
African American vernacular has aided the development of a distinct culture in terms of what African
Americans were subjected to from the installation of slavery. The African American vernacular was

It shed light on the lynching of African American men in the South. Lynching s occurred in other
regions of the United States, but mainly in the South. Strange Fruit is commonly known as a song of
social change. As mentioned before, this poem helped to expose racism in the U.S. During this time,
many people were fighting for the civil rights of African American that had been stymied by
institutionalized racism. Jim Crow laws of the South are an example of institutionalized racism. Jim
Crow laws limited the civil rights of African American and deemed them second class citizens. Even
during the days of slavery, there were many efforts made that helped to expose the atrocities that
occurred against African Americans. This included photographs and written works such as books and
newspaper articles.
During the early 20th century, racism against African Americans was exposed via songs that called for
a change of societal practices and views. Southern trees bear a strange fruit, blood on the leaves and
blood at the root, black bodies swinging in the southern breeze... are some of the lyrics of the song
Strange Fruit. Here is fruit for the crows to pluck, for the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, for the

How Labor Laws And The Work Of The Individual And How They...
In the late 1800 s, labor laws and ethics were something that nobody thought of and did much about. It
wasn t until the reign of Pope Leo XIII and his idea of a revolutionary change that came in the
doctrine of the Rerum Novarum, which focused on the laboring class. In first world countries, they
have labor laws to help benefit the worker, but those first world companies take advantage of third
world countries, and impoverished individuals. The focus of this paper will focus on how labor laws
and the work of the individual and how they have a major effect on poverty. In first world countries,
labor laws were created to protect and benefit the labor workers and to enable them to profit from their
labor. According to Economic Justice for All, employment is a basic right, a right which protects the
freedom of all to participate in the economic life of society. This quote is true for all individuals of all
backgrounds, and not just those in first world countries. Many individuals in the world do not benefit
from the property that makes profits and so they must endure employment to elude poverty, and to
support themselves and their families. With the ethics of Economic Justice for All, in the United States
alone, there are 8 million American s that are unemployed, cannot find jobs, and are living under the
poverty line, which equivalates to 7 percent of the labor force in America. The article goes on to say
that the burdens of unemployment compel us to the conviction that as

  • 2. Review Of The Short Story Mojave Rats As Coretta Scott King once said, The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. The short story Mojave Rats by Kristin Valdez Quade explores the relationship between Monica, who offers no compassion to the people around her, her daughters Cordelia and Beatrice, and her second husband Elliot. They moved from Los Angeles to Shady Lanes RV park in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Monica feels superior and out of place and lives convinced that Elliott will soon finish his geological expedition so that they can climb into academia and live a flawless and carefree life as a happy family. They live isolated from the rest of their community and Monica does not have any allies to help her through her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monica is fueled by the enjoyment she feels while tormenting Cordelia. The discipline frightens Cordelia and most likely further silences her from bringing up and thinking about Monica s past, which (unsuccessfully) forces Cordelia to immerse herself fully in their new life. The exhilaration that Monica experiences shows that she is happy to part with her past, but she is simultaneously torn because she feels that she is not fit for her present conditions and is not ready to settle with them. Setting aside her motives to hurt Cordelia, Monica s decision to give the dress away is a step in the right direction of accepting her current state. At the end of the story, Elliot comes home and fixes their thermostat that had been broken through the whole story. After endless complaints about the cold, ...While her family slept below her in the grey dawn light, she would place her cheek back on the pillow and watch them, waiting for them to stir, and she wouldn t even notice that she was finally warm (57). Her family, slept below her , as she looked down on her new family situation feeling like an outsider. There is an interesting distinction between Monica not feeling the cold and Cordelia s inability to feel the heat. Monica does not feel that her actions are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Health Education And Planning Assessments Within certain themes within Health Education, planning assessments can be used to show understanding e.g. weekly food plans within the Physical Health content. Overall Health Education would be an excellent addition to work alongside PSHE and Citizenship, the making of a statutory health education would highly benefit its pupils in their personal development. The second subject to be added into the curriculum would be Multi Media studies. This subject will reflect today s society and teach skills that are needed due the growth of technology (Wise 2000; Bazalgette 2010). Multi Media studies would involve aspects of other subjects such as I.C.T, music, business and technology, thus allowing for cross curricular work to take place (Howard, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because as discussed in the National Association for the Education of Young Children (2016), young children also want to use technology that older individuals use (National Association for the Education of Young Children, 2016). By providing Multi Media as a subject it means younger children can seek and develop their own skills and creativity through the basic use of technology e.g. using basic computer programs/ learning how to take a photo on a camera. Furthermore while there is a current GCSE called Media Studies (AQA, 2016), it can only be studied within year 9 onwards meaning pupils might not have learnt any skills within the previous years regarding media which could be a disadvantage for some. The GCSE is also time constricted as it has to be taught within just two years. Similar to that of the current I.C.T subject within the national curriculum, Multi Media studies will allow for creativity (Department for Education, 2013), the amount of areas of study mean that pupils can thrive and creative within the subject. The National Advisory Committee on Creative and Cultural Education (1998:3) report states that there is stronger emphasis on creative and cultural education . The Multi Media Studies subject would allow for creativity to be shown through numerous ways such as through graphic design, game design, filming, editing as well as broadcasting and photography. As a result of the content that will be within the program of study, pupils will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Genocide And The Holocaust Genocide is one of the most tragic events that can happen around the world. Identifying the stages is the most crucial part of stopping these horrible acts. The Bosnian Genocide and the Holocaust could have been prevented or stopped if the 8 stages were properly identified . There are 8 stages of genocide and the first stage is Classification. Classification is putting people into groups based on race, ethnicity, and religion. These groups usually are separated into the superior people and the inferior people. In the holocaust the Nazis targeted minorities, more specifically the Jewish people. The Jews were seen as the inferior race and they needed to be eliminated according to the nazis. The second stage of genocide is symbolization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This stage of genocide is called polarization. Polarization is where they separate the population. The SS and Nazis used propaganda to convince the german population the the Jewish people were the root of all evil. They used posters and videos to make this happen. Poster depicted Jews as being ape like with large noses and a slanted forehead. The most prevalent example of this is the Hitler Youth, they were brainwashed using propaganda so they would believe that everything Hitler said was morally right. The people that rebelled and did not believe the propaganda were eliminated. The next stage of genocide and the first step of the systematic killing is preparation. Preparation is when the target group is put together and combined to make it easier for extermination. In the Bosnian Genocide men and women were moved to concentration camps where they would be held until they were killed. The Serbs overthrew the law enforcement and roamed the streets rounding up Bosniaks, making sure none got away. They executed anyone that was thought to be strong enough to rebel instantly. The most gruesome stage of Genocide is Extermination. Extermination is the killing of the targeted group. They use the word extermination because they do not view the victims as humans and they are making them feel like rats or insects by using this term. In the Holocaust they had many ways of killing the Jews, the SS and Nazis used, starvation, exhaustion, mobile shooting squads, and gas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Application Essay-Magnet School I will contribute to the MSOE Community with my ambition and sense of civic duty; these characteristics were created by my passion for learning, my collaborative skills, awareness, and my assertive character. I love to learn. At a young age, this passion allowed me to explore at my own pace and cultivated my fierce determination to seek the truth. Now I am surrounded by people who encourage me to try everything. I ruthlessly pursue my interests with the support of my friends and teachers. My pioneer spirit led to my exploration of marine life at Catalina Island, late nights to observe stars, roles in musicals, and even an attempt at belly dancing. That support developed my willingness to try new things, so I always attend events given by friends and acquaintances. By giving others the same support, I work to create a community of interdependency. From these relationships, I know how to collaborate. Working well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an artist, I encourage everyone around me to do things uniquely their way. We all bring our own experiences to our perspective of life, and sometimes we forget that. Being aware of others lives is important, but understanding others views and feelings is more crucial to fostering a supportive community. Therefore I remember to be sensitive to the issues of those around me. Whenever I recognize a need, I address it without hesitation. At school I provided free tutoring at lunch because I saw my peers were having trouble without individual attention. After two years of trying to singlehandedly fill the gap between student knowledge and in class teaching, I realized it was fruitless, especially in math as the rigor increased. • 7. A Humean Critique of Descartes Essay A Humean Critique of Descartes Montreal has big potholes. Lots of them. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in Montreal. Hume would probably repave the roads based on the success of past designs and the results of empirical data. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed after attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with new foundations and new directions. This allegory underlines a central question of a Hume Descartes comparison: if Hume s road to knowledge needs improvement, does Descartes know where to start or where he is going? The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descartes used relations of ideas as the foundation for his method for acquiring knowledge. Descartes writes that disciplines which rely on composite things are doubtful, and arithmetic and geometry contain something certain and indubitable (Descartes 61). For example, 2+3=5 is a relation of ideas because 2+3 #8800;5 is a contradiction. The Discourse on Method constitutes a series of demonstrative reasonings. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and demonstrative, mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought that logical deduction from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world. Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to accumulation of data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation which governs our understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which ignores experience cannot draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact (Hume17). This is the central proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not by reason, but by experience (17). For Hume, empiricism paves the way to knowledge and custom, the codified accumulation of knowledge, serves as the great guide of human life (28). Knowledge is simply a belief reinforced by experience a far cry from the Cartesian certainty and clarity. The collection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Sign Of The Four, And The Red Badge Of Courage, By... Great Expectations , The Sign of the Four , and The Red Badge of Courage are books written with literary elements as building block for storytelling. Each first chapter uses character development, setting description, and many types of conflict to interest the reader. Even though all of the stories contain these elements, some are used more than others. Great Expectations and The Red Badge of Courage focus on the setting and character description more than The Sign of The Four where the element on conflict is heavily used. In the first chapter of Great Expectations the reader is introduced to Pip who is looking at the tombstones of his birth family that he never knew in the graveyard of a church on top of a hill. His mother, father, and five infant babies were all buried together as told in the story (Dickens,2016). Charles Dickens chose to implement the setting of the story while also introducing some of the characters. The story uses direct characterization when a man appears to threaten Pip. The man is described as beaten up with torn shoes and wet clothes and a knife that he uses to scare Pip which leads to conflict (Dickens,2016). The type of conflict that occurs is classified as man versus man. Dickens uses conflict to describe what Pip looks like when the man steals a piece of bread from Pip because he is hungry and then threatens to cut Pips cheek off and eat it. He then describes himself in first person that he does not have much fat on his body (Dickens,2016). Two more characters are introduced when the man asks Pip who he lives with since his parents are dead. Pip responds and says that he lives with his sister and the man she is married to who happens to be a blacksmith (Dickens,2016). When the man put the knife to Pips throat and told him to fetch him a file, it motivated Pip because his life depended on it (Dickens,2016). His behavior towards the conflict is that he obeys what the man has told him to do and agrees to his terms (Dickens,2016). Arthur Doyle s book The Sign of The Four it is shown that conflict and character development are heavily focused on when telling the story. The reader is first introduced to a main character who witnesses a man named Sherlock Holmes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Abuse Power In The Crucible Another lesson I learned from reading The Crucible, is to not abuse power. Abusing power is using power to an advantage in a bad way. Good leaders use their power to influence people in a positive way, while bad leaders use their power mainly for personal benefits. In the play, many of the characters with power abused it. They took complete control of situations influencing other characters to do bad things. One character from the book that abuses his power is Judge Danforth. Danforth ran all the trials for the witches , and was completely unfair. He made it basically impossible for an accused witch to be innocent. He also didn t allow suspects to have lawyers or anyone give information that disagreed with him. He considered different opinions as contempt of court . When Mr. Nurse was clashing with Danforth over the issue, Danforth said, do you know who I am, Mr. Nurse? (Act lll, Scene l) This shows that Danforth has the cocky mindset that he is above everyone. Good leaders should be able to listen to critics. Danforth believed that everyone accused was a witch; so he didn t even bother giving them a fair chance. Many people died under his signature. He used his power to contribute to the destruction of the town and many lives. Another example from the book deals with the ringleader of the group of girls caught in the woods; Abigail Williams. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses this symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first shown as the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as remarkable was his staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454). Goodman Brown was mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree of Good and Evil. Hawthorne then adds the symbolic moment before he ventures out which is when he finds his wife s ribbon and he begins to cry out that he has loss of his Faith. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of Goodman Brown s wife then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown recognizes that he is losing his faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into sin and there is nothing for him to do because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted his fallen state. There is no good on earth, and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given (Hawthorne, 456) Hawthorne then connects this to the biblical story when the snake tempted Eve and the snake was the form of the devil. The most of audiences feel uncomfortable during the performance, others, try to sniff me back at the same time. Humans are commonly known to have five primary senses: sight, hearing, taste, touching and smell, governed by five important organs: eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. Smell is often ignored , though, it plays an important role in our daily life without people noticing it. The purpose of my performance is to remind people to explore all their senses, be more aware of the surroundings and their own body. I developed new respects on objects that we see daily, and grew more appreciations of human nature. Scent takes a much important position in animal s world. The second rule is that the story flows naturally, and clearly makes sense. It is not allowed that a storyteller has a story that is choppy or jumpy to the point that the viewer does not understand. One of the most important rules is that the storyteller succeeds in continuing the story in alphabetical, or numerical, order. Similarly, if one tells the story in the reverse order, one cannot skip a letter, or number (Bauman). Lastly, for alphabetical stories there are allowable deviations and those that are not allowed. For example, many storytellers interchange 2 hand shapes such as N, H, U, and V. This deviation, along with the interchange of the 3 hand shapes M and W, are allowable deviations (Bauman). However, the usage of the time out sign as T in A Z stories is an example of a deviation that is not allowed (Bauman). These vital rules to alphabetical and numerical storytelling aid in contributing to the overall purpose. For example, when assessing a client s blood pressure, making sure to silence the alarm when handling BP devices or invasive lines and remembering to reset them when done help reduce noise levels for the patient. At present, this energy is derived from various sources with fossil fuels being the largest by far. According to the United States Energy Information Administration, in 2014 sixty seven percent of the United State s energy was converted from fossil fuels. ( What is U.S. Electricity Generation by Energy Source? ) Although fossil fuels are able to meet rising energy demands, they are limited and toxic to this planet. For this reason, U.S. officials have already begun to consider alternative sources of energy to break America s fossil fuel addiction; namely, liquid fuels derived from various agricultural crops. However, using agriculture in this way infringes upon the nation s food supply and the quantity of fuel produced is unable to meet rising fuel demands. Due to this, a new, dedicated source of energy is needed. One proposed source is microalgae, a microscopic plant life form that is neither a part of the food supply, or a detriment to the environment. In addition, microalgae are able to produce copious amounts of liquid fuel in comparison to currently used crops.
