Globalization of Korean Popular Culture in Asia
Globalization of Korean Popular Culture in Asia
1. Introduction
Since 1990s, Korean Popular Culture has had a strong influence in Asian countries, including
China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore. This new popular cultural phenomenon in Asia
is called the Korean Wave , also known as hallyu in Korean pronunciation, which refers to the surge
of popularity of Korean popular culture abroad, particularly in Asia(Kin 284). The Korean Waveis
first coined in mid 1999 by journalists in Beijing who are surprised by the fast growing popularity
of Korean entertainment and popular Culture in China(Fiaola 1).
Korean Wave certainly brings a big hit to Asian countries, but at the same time, some anti Korean
feelings are aroused as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, originally, supposed to be the last work of Samsung Entertainment Group and the group
will break up afterwards. Shiri, surprisingly, got a big hit from Korea and other Asian countries.
Although it costs only about 2% of average budget of Hollywood films, it was popular throughout
the world. As Diffrient mentioned, Shiri led to a pan Asian phenomenon after its releases in
Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan(42). Later on, films such as Joint Security Area and My Sassy Girl
also gave a big hit to Asia, which further spread Korean popular culture to other Asian countries. As
a Hollywood reporter said, Korea has transformed itself from an embattled cinematic backwater into
the hottest film market in Asia (Segers 14).
Korean TV dramas also floods the daily programming of free to air TV stations and even become
part of the routine viewing habits of their respective audiences(Beng 2). Starting with What Is
Love All About and Stars in My Heart in the late 1990s, and Winter Sonata and Dae Jang Geum
in recent years, Korean television drama and its stars such as Bae Yong Jun and Lee Young Ae,
have attracted Asian audiences. Korean TV dramas were dubbed into Mandarin in Taiwan in
2004 and into Cantonese in Hong Kong in 2005. It was soon dubbed for broadcasting in China
and Japan in 2006. According to the Television Broadcast Limited(TVB), Dae Jang Geum had
broke the rating record of Hong Kong TV dramas since 1991, which rated 50 points,

New Approaches And Education For The Success Of...
7New Approaches and Education for the Success of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems
There is a common thinking in the academia and professional arenas that the solution to the
untreated wastewater discharges into our water bodies can be prevented or mitigated mainly with
the construction of wastewater sewer collection systems and wastewater treatment plants. Part of the
purpose of this research is to revisit and analyze the benefits of using decentralized wastewater
treatment technologies and evaluate the latest wastewater treatment technologies available.
7.1Overview of Centralized Wastewater Treatment Systems Infrastructure
It is also of common knowledge that our nation s wastewater treatment infrastructure is widely
recognized to be in serious overhaul, if not outright replacement. (Crawford 2011). Also it is known
that wastewater management does not figure among the environmental legal and regulatory matters
that command public attention, despite the direct human and environmental health impacts of
wastewater infrastructure failures, to say nothing of the unsavory nature of ruptured sewage lines
and massive sewage spills, with their attendant harms for both land and water pollution (Crawford
2011). This is due to a lack of knowledge and education to the public concerning this serious threat.
A serious national wastewater treatment crisis is imminent. The need to address our wastewater
infrastructure deficiencies is urgent and not only for the centralized

A Character Analysis Of Hannya s Cruel Liar
Hannya is a jealous, obsessive, impulsive, and manipulative liar. She knows how to trick people
into playing along with her cruel acts, allowing her to get whatever she wants whenever she
wants, even if she doesn t deserve it. She obsesses over her looks and she expects others to do
the same towards her; Hannya gets easily angered when someone admires anything else but her
when she is around, causing her to lash out both physically and emotionally at almost anything
and everything. She craves attention relentlessly and will go out of her way to stir up drama if
that helps her achieve her goal. She doesn t care if a particular person hates her since she figures
that she can always make them come crawling back later on. This feminine Viscet is

Woodticks In Saskatoon By Joy Kogawa Summary
dtick Questions In the poem the speaker s daughter is being mocked by some white children for
being Japanese. The speaker then has a flashback to her time living in Slocan. She remembers
the time when the other white kids made fun of her and she ran into the forest to hide. When she
reaches deep into the forest, she then listens for the voices of the kids to guide her back onto the
path, and she vows to never go near the mountain alone again. Then she flash forwards back to the
present and she reassures her daughter that they do not have woodticks in Saskatoon. From
reading the poem it can be determined that the speaker is the author, Joy Kogawa. One of the
major giveaways of this is name of the daughter: Deidre. Joy Kogawa has a daughter... Show more

However, upon reading the poem and the uses of the title within in the text we can also see the
allusion drawn to Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, in which there is also a wall
within Act V. In this act, the characters of Thisbe and Pyramus, who are lovers, are separated by
a wall and are only able to communicate through a hole in the wall. Eventually their love for
each other proves to be too strong and the wall then leaves. Parallels that can be drawn to the
poem includes whispering through loose bricks , a reference to the hole in the wall in the play,
also when the word dream is used in the third stanza references the title of the play, while the
voice... from the wall can be compared to the talking wall in the play. The significance of these
allusions in the title is that they reinforce the overall arching theme of the poem that there are
always ways past obstacles or barriers and where these hindrances are, people will always be
looking to overcome them. On a literal level, the author Joy Kogawa explores the various methods
to evade a wall. She suggests ,through a door, sneaking, torturing, bombs, zeppelins, battering rams,
whispering through a hole in the wall. All of these are methods which can work, but the one way

Where Have All The Rivers Gone Essay
Egypt s history has became one of the extensive histories out of other countries in the world. In
ancient times, the country depended on the Nile River for most of its agriculture. The Nile River
remains an essential part of the country s resources. According to Sandra Postel in her article
Where Have All the Rivers Gone? , Egyptdepended on the Nilefor most of its irrigation of crops
including rice, cotton, and many others. In addition to ancient history, there s plenty to know about
Egypt s modern history. Sometime around 1800, European powers dominated Egypt when other
foreign powers were conquering the country. France and Britain, specifically, invaded the country
for themselves for a moderate amount of time. According to John Esposito, Napoleon Bonaparte
of France ruled Egypt for three years after 1798 (773). With Britain seeing Egypt as a threat,
Muhammad Ali signed the Treaty of London in 1840 which disbanded Egypt s war industries. Both

Food From The Sea Chapter 1 Summary
Australia has small crystals that enables scientist map out earths existence; they are called Zircons.
The earth began as dust. The planet was extremely hot at first and without a certain collusion it
would not be what it is today. A planet with four seasons and with tides in the ocean from the
moon. At first, there were no continents they would come along later, so it was mostly water. Next,
single cell organisms and photosynthesis would start creating oxygen. In fact, oxygen was so
abundant it froze most the planet. Eventually, oxygen would lead the planet to multicellularity.
Life would come and go many times over the course of time. This would be causes by catastrophic
events, but life would always be resilient. All life evolved from the sea.
This chapter tells us how the earth formed and all of the different cycles it went through to get
where it is today. It goes on to illustrate the beginning of life from single cell to multi cell. How life
would end and then come back with different creatures each time.

Women s Rights in the 19th Century and Now Essay
It would be a huge understatement to say that many things have changed when it comes to women s
rights, positions, and roles in our society today since the 19th century. Actually, very few
similarities remain. Certain family values, such as specific aspects of domesticity and performance
of family duties are amongst the only similarities still present. Victorian women had several
hardships to overcome. Education, marriage, leisure, and travel amongst other things were limited
and controlled. A womanwas never to travel if not in the company of her parents or husband.
Leisure, for example, was limited and a woman always had to look busy and find something to do.
They did not have the right to vote, sue or own any property. Their bodies... Show more content on

This resulted in her share of criticism from the media and her readers. In a time when it was
expected of a woman to behave a certain way and sexual desire was considered something only
experienced by men, Kate Chopin spoke with exceptional openness about human sexuality. She
then criticized society for its close mindedness. She helped to generate enlightened attitudes among
both the women and men of her time. By not only admitting the fact that a woman has strong
sexual desires, but also glorifying it, Chopin opened doors to better communication and
understanding between men and women as a result of The Storm.
This has changed significantly since the 19th century. Sex, amongst others, is no longer taboo to
women and it has become a much more liberated subject. It is encouraged and accepted in today s
society that a woman enjoys sexual pleasures outside the restraints of only pregnancy, even
marriage. Women in the Victorian erahad very little to say when it came to marriage. Usually, the
parents of the woman would make the choice for her as to whom she would marry based on a
man s social status. It was not odd for a 15 year old girl to wed, unlike in today s society. Parents
would usually look for a man who was wealthy enough to help the woman advance in her life, since
women were mostly uneducated and only taught to be homemakers and mothers and not work.
Women were dealt with as if they were objects, and

are not as many women attending law school as men in this movie. This leaves less female to
female conversation and less opportunity for story lines that do not revolve around men.
Hopefully, Legally Blonde, proves me wrong and turns out to be the inspiring story I remember it
to be as a kid.
Describe the results of your Bechdel Test in detail:1) Were there at least two (2) named female
characters?
There are a total of eight named female characters in the movie. In order of appearance, these
characters include: Elle Woods, Margot, Enid, Paulette Bonafonte, Vivian Kensington, Brooke
Taylor, Chutney, and Mrs. Hayworth. However, only four of these women were actually involved
in conversation lasting a minute. The female characters that had main speaking roles include, Elle,
Paulette, Vivian, and Brooke.
Elle has been described as the main female character. Paulette is a manicurist that she develops a
friendship with along the way. In a way, she takes refuge with Pauline at the salon from the
harsh reality of Harvard and Warner. Vivian is a fellow classmate of Elle s and Warner s new

hidden away in a shed with her five year old son Jack. Joy was locked in what her and her son

but the man tricked her and kidnapped her. Room has a very well thought out plot, but an even
more well thought out composition. The use of point of view for Jack and the opening and closing

establishing shot of the only natural light source in the room, a sky light. Jack then starts
narrating a story his mom Joy told him about when he was born. While this narration is going on
the film cuts to a shot of Joy and Jack in bed Jack is just waking up. This releases some of the
tension but there is still some residing anxiety and one really can t make out what is really
going on yet. Joy makes a plan to escape with most of the task on Jack. After Jack completes his
escape and leads the police back to his mom still locked in the room, they go live together with
Joys mom. Joy and Jack have a hard time adjusting to their new life. Joy gets very depressed and

Hamilton learnt the basics of English whilst attending school (completed Grade 8). Due to the fact
that isiZulu is spoken more widely in KZN, South Africa than Sesotho, it was not as necessary
/ important for Hamilton to learn how to communicate in Sesotho, as much as it was for Sparak
and Simphiwe to learn how to communicate in isiZulu. Why are they acting / behaving in
certain ways? During their lunch break on day two, I noticed that Sparak and Simphiwe each
had a brightly coloured blanket which they wrapped around their shoulders. They sat down, flat
on the grass, and ate their lunch (consisting of spinach, potato and pap , which is a stiff, mealie
meal), using their fingers to scoop their food into their mouths. No other eating utensils were
used. Simphiwe, the younger of the two Sotho s, treated the older Sparak, with much respect.
This was evident when I observed that he waited for Sparak to sit down first, he handed Sparak
his lunch, and he fetched water for Sparak to drink. Hamilton joined Sparak and Simphiwe for
lunch. However, he sat on a low wooden bench and he didn t have a bright blanket wrapped
around his shoulders. The lunch that Hamilton was eating was samp and beans. (Traditional Zulu

Comparing The Book Of Proverbs And Ecclesiastes
Looking at the books of wisdom of the Old Testament, the ideas of diligence and laziness have
been greatly captured. Diligence has been displayed in a much positive way, unlike laziness which
has been greatly condemned and looked down upon in most of the books of wisdom in the Old
Testament (Hindson and Yates 2012). Though the two ideas looked to have been intertwined
making them closely related, they are totally different from each other. It must be understood that
the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes are the books of wisdomthat have handled the two ideas in
more expansive manner and thus become our center of focus as we discuss the two in greater details.
As stated above, the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes provide a wide description ... Show more

In this, we are able to infer that listening to a diligent person is more important than listening to a
lazy person. This is because a diligent person is a person who is full of wisdom, unlike a lazy
person who is full of foolishness (Ecclesiastes 10:10 12 RSV). It has been stated in the book of
Ecclesiastes that those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious
and blessing than those that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness
and their end is mere madness. It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent
person have a lot of wisdom are greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a
lazy person which are full of foolishness. Such words can only lead to madness and nothing good
can ever come out of them as compared to those from a diligent person which are more gracious
and valuable. Laziness is therefore regarded as evil and has nothing good to offer to anyone and
no one should pay attention to people with such qualities and tendencies. Ecclesiastes encourages
us to pay more attention to the diligent people as they have a lot of wisdom which if put into
practice; the results are good and much

No Clear Link Between TV Violence and Aggression Essay
No Clear Link Between Television Violence and Aggression
There is a great deal of speculation on the role of television violence in
childhood aggression. Research demonstrates there may be other intervening
variables causing aggression. These variables include IQ, social class, parental
punishment, parental aggression, hereditary, environmental, and modeling. With
all of these factors to taken into consideration it is difficult to determine a
causal relationship between television violence and aggression. It is my
hypothesis this relationship is bi directional violent television

Subjects in the aggression condition reproduced a good deal of physical and
verbal aggressive behavior resembling that of the models. The data clearly
confirmed the prediction that exposure of subjects to aggressive models
increases the probability of aggressive behavior (Bandura et al. 1961). Another
study sought to determine the extent to which film mediated aggressive models
may serve as an important source of imitative behavior. Children were divided
and then exposed to four different aggression models. A real life aggression
condition, a human film aggression condition, a cartoon film aggression
condition, and a control group. The results showed that exposure to humans on
film portraying aggression was the most influential in eliciting aggressive
behavior. Subjects in this condition, in comparison to the control subjects,
exhibited more aggression and more imitative aggression. Subjects who viewed
the aggressive human and cartoon models on film exhibited almost twice as much
aggression as subjects in the control group. These results provide strong
evidence that exposure to filmed aggression heightens aggressive reactions in
children (Bandura et al. 1963a). These results add to the conclusion that
viewing violent television produces aggressive behavior.

Barbie and the Notion of Progression Since the emergence of the Barbie doll in 1959, Barbie has
been a populous choice among young children, and more specifically young girls because of its
monopolization of the toy market. Barbie is a doll that has been outwardly controversial and
debated upon for years and most likely will be for many years to come. The idea of the Barbie
doll is a toy for which young girls model themselves after and aspire to be like when they mature
and grow up. DuCille states, more than simple instruments of pleasure and amusement, toys and
games play crucial roles in helping children determine what is valuable in and around ... Show more

Presidential Barbie. Again, this Barbie is dressed conservatively, in a full pink suit, with the
skirt landing below her knees and a jacket to cover up much of her skin. This Barbie also comes
equipped with platform shoes, which allow her to stand on her own for the first time in fifty
three years. This demonstrates independence along with leadership, as she does not need
someone to hold her up. The fact that she is running for President and in doing so has stability,
speaks volumes to the kind of women this Barbie is trying to portray. Presidential Barbie has a
platform in which she stands for which she titles the 5 B s . They include, B a dreamer, B
creative, B informed, B confident, and lastly B involved. Barbie s platform illustrates positive
messages for young girls and their futures. Another progressive aspect of Presidential Barbie is that

of The White House Project is to, ignite the leadership of women in business along with politics

The Mind Body And Body
The Mind Body problem arises to Philosophy when we wonder what is the relationship between the
mental states, like beliefs and thoughts, and the physical states, like water, human bodies and tables.
For the purpose of this paper I will consider physical states as human bodies because we are
thinking beings, while the other material things have no mental processes. The question whether
mindand body are the same thing, somehow related, or two distinct things not related, has been
asked throughout the history of Philosophy, so some philosophers tried to elaborate arrangements
and arguments about it, in order to solve the problem and give a satisfactory answer to the
question. This paper will argue that the Mind Body Dualism, a view in... Show more content on

(In class, Schmit used the four elements to explain it.) Materialism is considered a monistic view,
since it considers that all things belong to this one fundamental kind of thing. Usually, the
philosophers that believe in Materialism presuppose that, if the mind is a material thing, then it is
reasonable to relate it to the brain or with the functioning of the brain, since the brain is a material
thing and it is certainly associated with thinking.
Opposed to Mind Body Materialism is Mind Body Dualism, a view which supports that mind and
body are not identical, but, in some sense, radically different kinds of thing. It denies that the mind
is the same of the brain, or a product of the brain, by arguing that the thoughts and the material
things are composed of different substances, and the mind is a thinking thing that lacks the usual
attributes of physical objects: size, shape, location, solidity, motion, etc. According to the Dualism,
the soul is comprised of a non physical substance, while the body is constituted of matter. This
view also establishes that mind and body are capable of causally affecting each other, even if they
are necessarily not the same thing. When applying this notion the human body, the meaning
becomes clearest: the intellect is responsible for all our acts, but it does not imply that the intellect
is the brain. For example, before eating a meal, which is a physical action, you probably felt hungry,

School Prayer In Schools
School Prayer is a very controversial topic in our country today. Many famous figures in this nation
support the idea, but there is a number of citizens that do not. Wonder what the verdict is
constitutionally? Let s dig in and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to
the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority
of them were catholic. A big influence on making school prayerin schools were mainly catholic and
other denominational and non denominational groups. In the twentieth century, a number of states
passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before
class. School Prayer should be permitted in the United States because it is in the constitution,
former presidents have promoted it; and teachers would have freedom of religionin the class.
The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who
agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school s mission to provide
children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation. Supporters also
say that when students volunteer to pray, they have the right to the law of separation of church and
state, and other laws between the lines of freedom of religion. In God we Trust mottos and using
the Bible for swearing in public officials and federal holidays that have a religious background on

The State Of California Is Eliminating Mandatory Minimums...
No More Minimums
Zach Fulk
Sociology 4611
Professor Bellair Introduction
States throughout the country, including Ohio, have began a massive and struggling goal to
decrease the prison population for many very vital reasons. To decrease the population it takes
many conjoining and as a whole, teamwork to get laws passed that will allow inmates to serve a
shorter or even no time in prison. The best and most effective way to lower the prison population
is a collaborate effort and look into every effect that causes people to enter prison and remain in
prison for an extended period of time. To eliminate the Ohio prison population by 20% over the
next two years that requires a deduction from roughly 51,000 inmates to 40,800 inmates. This is a
drastic reduction and is relatable to what the state of California is experiencing today. The method
that I want to look into to reduce the population throughout Ohio s prisons is eliminating mandatory
minimums and creating more successful programs to prevent recidivism. These programs to
eliminate and also reduce the number of prisoners are nothing new and something that will take
every bit of the two years allotted.
With eliminating mandatory minimums it will shorten and even eliminate those who have
committed nonviolent crimes from spending an unnecessary length of time in prisons. Many
experts and people involved with the criminal justice system have looked into and tried to do away
with the outdated laws passed to keep those who have

The Volkswagen Beetle
The people #8217;s car #8211; generically, Volkswagen in German #8211; is almost as old as the
automobile, and the type was familiar in Germany long before the advent of the Volkswagen.
Usually these #8220;popular #8221; cars were minimal cars, though size and simplicity did not
necessarily bring them within the reach of the ordinary man in the street. Henry Ford did build
a successful universal car, to sell at a low price, but his Model T with its 2.9 litre engine was by
no means a small car, nor was the Model A that followed it. When it was in production in the late
1920s, small #8220;proper #8221; cars in Germany ranged from the 700 cc DKW to the 1 litre

So in 1954 they got rid of the starter button and made it easier by putting it in the ignition. In
1960 500,000 beetles are shipped to the U.S. and you start to see more and more of them when
on the road. In 1970 they invent the annoying buzzer that goes off when the door is open and the
beetle is first to install it. In 1974 the first VW plant was shut down in Wolfsberg. Then in 1976
the metallic paint and sport style rims were added to make the beetle look a little better which

only remaining beetle production is in Mexico. (Beetle) Concept I was the sensation of the
Detroit Show in January 1994 when Volkswagen executives quite clearly stated that it was not
the forerunner of the production model. By the next motor show, at Geneva in March 1994, the
strong public reaction had led to corporate change of mind, and chairman Ferdinand Piech
decided that it would be developed as a production model. Beetle had never been an official VW
name, but the public inevitably saw Concept I as #8220;Beetle II #8221;, and on the Volkswagen
stand at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show it was presented as #8220;the new Beetle #8221;. The aim

That is, online pedagogy seems more associated with cyber distance than with virtual community,

United States Involvement In World War I
The United States should have entered World War I.
The main reason why the United States should have entered World War I is because they needed
to defend their people. According to Source 1, President Woodrow Wilson claimed that the U.S.
should join the war in response to the sinking of the Lusitania ship. In his speech to Congress on
April 2, 1917, he claimed, American ships have been sunk, American lives taken...the lives of
peaceful and innocent people cannot be. He confirmed that the U.S. was being attacked and many
American lives lost. Therefore, fighting for the tranquility of U.S. citizens, by joining the war, was
in the best interest.
The United States land was very valuable and needed to be protected from other countries
attempting to invade. According to Source 2, the Zimmerman Telegraph that was sent by the
Germans to the Mexicans proposed an alliance. In return, Germany offered Mexico financial
support and would help them reconquer the lost territory in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. Due
to the fact that the United States s land was at risk of being invaded, it should take caution and

lines, the Germans planned to place heavy tolls on American trade, while the British were

in actuality, this major action must have been a target to the United States. The data shows that the

situations experienced in the hallway on a daily basis. Plenty of events that occur in the hallway

An example of this would be text walkers. A reason this is ignorant is because the person who is
texting and walking is highly likely to bump into another person. The person is also oblivious to
the environment around them and have slower reaction times to specific circumstances such as
people who run in the hallway. Additionally, it is also mindless when people are incredibly loud
in the hallway. It is unnecessary to talk incredibly loud in which other people are not even able
to hear themselves talk. Talking louder than necessary also disturbs people who need silence and
it also gives other people headaches due to the loud noises. A final ignorant situation that occurs
in the hallway is when people walk purposely slow to irritate others walking behind them. This is
a common occurrence and highly disrespectful to cause other people to be late for their class on
purpose. Nobody should be late to his/her class due to the mean and absurd actions of others.
Therefore, ignorance is common in hallways and describes many situations which are encountered
in the hallway. Obnoxious, unpleasant, and ignorant are all words to describe the absurd instances
which occur in the hallway. Anyone in the hallway always has to face oblivious texters, loud
yellers, and many other irrational events. Walking in the hallway is not an enjoyable experience

We Live In Such A World Claude Mckay Meaning
Imagine a world with joy and happiness everything is flawless,No racism, no violence, no
poverty and no hate; we live in a utopian world. We do not live in such a world, it is nothing like
this. The poem by Claude McKay and the picture by Brittany Jackson have expressed that this
world is not as perfect as we think it is. The poem written by Claude McKay and the picture by
Brittany Jackson both describe the theme of how hatred is so easily acted upon.
The picture that Brittany Jackson illustrates, describes anger. You can see the anger in this picture
because of how easily he is eating the world, if he was not so angry then he would not be eating
the world so easily. If he was happy then it might be hard for him to eat the world, that is if he
has a conscience. You can also see that the man is cutting the world with a knife and if you were
to cut a world, then it would need a tougher knife than just a butter knife. Another detail that
expresses anger is his grip around the knife. I know for me I would not be gripping ... Show more

These birds are attacking and tearing apart the prey and they do not stop. This just shows much

Michael Jackson Beat It
In 2009, we lost one of the greatest entertainers in music history, however his music still lives on,
inspiring and touching people s heart. I have always been a fan of Michael Jackson, and the
reason why I picked this song is because it presents a strong message. Not only did
Jackson make a powerful statement with his lyrics, he also made one with his choice of rhythm
and beats. The guitars and drums that were used, give the song a dramatic rock vibe. According to
music critics Jackson s album Thriller seemed to be inspired by a mixture of several genres which

The second verse talks about making the right choice to just go away instead of shedding blood,
and trying to be a tough guy. The third verse simply describes that even if one chooses to walk
away, it is better to be alive than to risk it. The fourth verse in my opinion talks about the
consequences of fighting and that if one chooses to be violent, chances are that they will get hurt.
As mentioned earlier the chorus defines to just walk away although No One wants To Be
Defeated. It is better to go because in the end It Doesn t Matter Who is Wrong Or Right.
Jackson uses very powerful words and explains that it is always best to look out for yourself
instead of proving yourself to others. It is not worth the struggle (songfacts).
As I was analyzing the song, I was listening for specific sounds and noises that would symbolize
the meaning of the song. I heard a police siren which could symbolize that if you get involved
with gangs and violence, you will end up in jail. I also heard a snapping sound and deep breathing
sounds. The breathing sounds could represent the sound of someone running away and catching a
breath. I could detect sounds as if someone was getting punched and sounds of blades which could
represent a fight. While searching for different meanings of the song I came across an interesting

Reflection About My Practicum Experience
This portfolio is reaching its end and it is now time for me to start reflecting about my practicum
period. Last year was a great year and a challenging one as well.
When the practicum period started I was lost, I did not know where to begin and what to do and
it took me time to adapt to the new challenges I faced. Once I sat down and considered my
options I began searching for schools to do the practicum. The city I live in has many
disadvantages as far as education; on the one hand, English is not taught in kindergarten so I ended
up teaching in a Language School during the kindergarten period; on the other, there are not many
qualified English teachers and this resulted on very scarce feedback from the teachers who
observed my lessons.
As time went by, things did not get easier; it took me three months to be accepted in the primary
school because of some issues with the Ministerio de EducaciГіn . Luckily, I did not have such
problems in the secondary school.
This portfolio helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses as a teacher. As regards my
teaching skills is concerned, now that I re read all the lesson plans I made, I can say that I made
some progress. Firstly, I learn to create meaningful and effective contexts. As it can be seen in my

Utopian Cults Essays
For many years, cults have been a subject of great controversy. A cult is a group of people that
are bound together by an appreciation of the same thing, person, ideal, etc. Usually these groups
keep close because of religious reasons, but their beliefs are almost always considered strange by
outsiders. Cults are similar to clans or congregations, but are usually referred to as sects.
There are many different categories that a cult could be sorted into. Apocalyptic, Utopian,
Spiritualistic, Satanic, and Witchcraft/Voodoo cults are just some of the more basic types. While
an Apocalyptic cult would focus on the end of the world, a Utopian cult would center more on a

A utopia is any visionary system of political or social perfection. In Moore s novel an ideal place
to live was described and since then many people on Earth have searched to find a utopia of their
own. Utopian Cults created exclusive, self supporting communities that were completely isolated
from the sinful world. In all of these cults, success of the community was most important and
individual wants came second. The leader of the clan would assign jobs to his/her followers and
they had to work. Assignments were usually tasks such as farming, because the cult s community
was isolated from the rest of the world and needed to feed themselves. All recorded Utopian cults
have failed within 20 years of effort proving that none of them were up to the enormous challenge
of perfection. The most famous Utopian cult of all time was led by Jim Jones and it was called the

Indianapolis, Indiana. Jones taught his followers to treat all races equally which was not popular
in the early fifties. To show their disapproval, many people would knock him off of his bike and
some even threw dead cats into his church, but Jones kept preaching. Things turned around for
Jones when the Civil Rights Movement began, his church expanding not only over Indianapolis
but all over America. In 1961, Jim Jones and his family moved to Brazil where Jones served as a

Eradication, Extinction, And Control
1.Define eradication, extinction, elimination, and control.
a)Eradication as permanent reduction to zero of the worldwide incidence of a disease or an
infection and with further intervention no longer needed, once interruption of transmission has
been certified worldwide,.
b)Extinction of the disease means the specific infectious agent no longer exists in nature or even in
the laboratory.
c)Elimination: reduction to zero of the occurrence of a disease or an infection in a defined
geographical area, continued measures to prevent re emergence and re establishment of
transmission are required.
d)Control is associated to the reduction in the incidence (the number of new cases per population
at risk in a given time period), prevalence (the proportion of the population found to have a
condition) of an infectious disease to an acceptable level within a specified area.
2.Describe the characteristics of smallpox that made it an appropriate candidate for eradication.

his critical work on the narrator, when the story is in fact about the character of Bartley. Dan s
critical work may be further persuading if he focused more of his writing on the actual character
of Bartleby, whom the story is titled after. If The Reliable Narrator could have gone into more

writes, Every virtue I see in the man, they see as a vice; where I see his strength, they see his
weakness; what I see as his genuine responsiveness, they see as his cold self absorption (266). In

that the narrator is really trying to help Bartleby in the end, and if McCall had gone on and

The War Of Abraham Lincoln
The 1860 s was a time when the world was facing one of the bloodiest war in history. One of the
reasons for the war was the election of Abraham Lincoln. South Caroline issued the Declaration of
the Causes of Secession because they believed Lincoln was anti slaver (Bartels). However during
the most consequential period in American history, on November 1860 Abraham Lincolnwas elected
as the sixteenth president of the United Statesand the first Republican President. As the commander
in chief the union army, Lincoln needed to bring an end to the war and reunite the nation. On
November 19, 1863 Abraham Lincoln gave one of the most inspirational wartime speeches at the
Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Gettysburg Addressevoked a sense of unity into the American
citizens and human equality, which was greatly needed at that time. Lincoln s prerogative was to
acknowledge the values our founding fathers had, honor the human sacrifices and remind the
citizen of the optimistic purpose of war.
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in humble surroundings, a one room log
cabin with dirt floors in Kentucky. Coming from a farmer family Lincoln had no access to a
formal education, so he self educated himself from the basics of English to the complicated
language of law. Eventually he became a self taught Illinois lawyer and a great speaker. Lincoln s
family didn t believe in the idea of slavery so he too grew up finding it frightful (History.com).

in pioneering powered flight. Later, in the middle of the same century, the United States and the
Soviet Union stood nose to nose as they wrestled to prove each other s superiority in outer space
exploration. This century brings a new challenge for technology makers to fight about: Information,
and particularly, the way in which consumers consume it. Computer giants, Microsoft and Apple
have been at each other s throats since the 1980s, and to this day the two companies still can t
get along like mature adults, but they continue to compete by inventing better and faster ways for
people around the world to work, learn and play. As we will see, their competitive advertising
says volumes about the personalities of the companies and the audiences for which they strive, and
we ll excavate this by comparing two very different ads for two very similar products, the
Microsoft Surface Tablet and the Apple iPad. When it comes down to pure, objective logic, I found
the dry security of the Microsoft ad most effective as a sales piece, compared to the vague and
emotional iPad spot, because it has the most complete and abundant product

Water Quality and Contamination Essay
Water Quality and Contamination
Water Quality and Contamination
Introduction
Abstract My lab report was based on how ground water could be affected by contaminants that
surround us everyday. Access to safe drinking water depends not only on the quality of water at
source but also on contamination throughout it s way to the user and practices related to
purification and sanitation ( Mishra, S., Nandeshwar, S. 2013).I was very surprised that the
detergent contaminated the water. I thought that the detergent would stay in the soil but it ended up
going through the soil into the water. Which then left the water bubbly and dark. These labs may
show that we may need to look into more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I poured the solution back and fourth 15 times. Once the mixture was created I poured 10ml of
the Contaminated water into a 100ml beaker. I then added 10 grams of alum to the 250ml beaker
that is contaminated. I mixed the solution for 1 2 minutes and then let it sit for 15mintues.While I
let it sit I washed out the 250ml beaker then I put a 4 layer cheesecloth in the funnel that was
placed in the 250ml beaker. Then I layered the funnel with 40ml of sand, 20ml of activated
charcoal and 40ml of gravel. Then I poured clean tap water through the filter until the funnel was
full. I poured the clean tap water through the filter 4 more times. After that was done, I poured Вѕ
of the contaminated water into the filter for 5 minutes. After 5minutes I then added a few drops
of bleach to the filtered water and slowly stirred the combination for 1 minute. The third
experiment I did was to see the quality of tap water, Dasani water and Fuji water. I first labeled
250ml beakers Tap, Dasani and Fuji. I then poured 100ml of each water type into there specific
beaker. The first strip test I did was the ammonia test. I placed the strip in each of the 3 beakers
for 30 seconds to see the test strip level. Then compared to the strip color to the colored charts
that were given. I repeated the same steps for chloride except for putting the test strip in for 1
second. Next, I did the 4 in 1 test repeating the same steps besides placing the test strip in the
beaker for 5

Similarities Between Night And The Breakaway
Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, and Karen Hesse the author of Debts display many similarities
throughout their work. Each author s use of imagery and the tones they convey allow the reader to
understand how each character gets over their conflicts with optimism. In the novel Night by Elie
Wiesel and the short story The Breakaway, by an unknown author the two author s use of imagery
is similar because they both show how the characters overcome their conflicts with hope. An
example of this similarity in Night is when the author states that We breathed in air filled with fire
and smoke, and our eyes shone with hope. . The imagery shows that they had hope in their eyes,
which helps create emotion that the reader feels about the character. An example of this in the short
story is when the author said By the time he got to senior year in high school, his GPA was
hovering in the slam dunk position . The imagery the unknown author uses makes the reader
understand that even though he was hurt and his grades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this difference in Night is when the author said that One more stab to the heart, one
more reason to hate. One less reason to live . This tone conveys a throw in the towel attitude toward
his experience during the Holocaust because he is stating that the more things that hurt him, the
more things give him less hope to live. An example of perseverance in the short story is when the
author states that So, while she was home on break, they studied together, and they talked, and they
worked, and Justin felt better than he ever had before . This tone expresses the author s feelings
towards getting his grades up because he worked hard with a persevering attitude to achieve his

African American Implicit Attitudes
Based on the survey, my results did not mirror my expected attitudes. My results of the survey
exemplified that I give moderate autonomic preference to European American over African
Americans. I believe that is not really true because I give equal importance to everyone. I don t
judge a person based on his/her color. I treat everyone equally whether the person is black, white
or brown. I have a lot of friends from different races such as Asians, African Americans and
Mexicans. Finally, my attitude toward everyone is equal. The IAT results measure implicit attitudes
and stereotypes towards a group of people. They also measure the bonding between the associations
and concepts. For example, I was quick at categorizing when both European Americans... Show

bullied tends to get angry and start to curse him. That is how implicit attitude can affect behavior.
Implicit attitude can also affect values. For example, if a person who is implicit towards a value
or a belief shares it with others, there might be chance that others can also get influenced by the
same value and start believing them. That is how an implicit attitude can affect others beliefs.
Implicit attitudes can also affect communication styles. For instance, If person A who is implicit

attitude causes a change in communication styles. When it comes to economic opportunities,
implicit attitude affects a lot of people. Many people may not get jobs because someone might be

A Summary OfThe Rapture And The Book Of Revelation
In K. Essex s article aptly named, The Rapture and the Book of Revelation, Essex outlines four
promising facts regarding Revelation 3:10. He states,
First, this promise applies not only to one local assembly existing in the days of the apostle John
but to the entire church of Jesus Christ. The constant refrain in all seven messages from Christ to
these churches is He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Second, the
trial which is coming is not local, but is about to come upon the whole world. The persecutions of
the past were usually limited to one country or area. This trial must refer to the tribulation to come
when all the world will be amazed and follow after the beast (13:3), and all who worship him will
come under the wrath of God. Third, those who dwell on the earth is not a suitable description for
the members of the church. Fourth, the grammar of П„О·ПЃОП‰ ОµОє (tereГ¶ ek), though not
conclusive, favors removal from the hour of trial.
Not only does Essex, much like Svigel and I touch on the Greek origins of Rev 3:10, but he also
picks apart the logic behind the trials coming about the whole earth. It is not local to one area, it
will be meant for everyone left on the planet key word: left. Thusly, the whole church will have
heard the Word from the Great Advocate by this time. Those who accepted and followed Christ
would have been lifted into the air and taken up with Christ. Essex also points out the scripture that
follows after

Girl Scout Interview
For my profile I interviewed a longtime friend and sister Girl Scout of mine. She goes by the
name of Rosie Houck. Girl Scout Programs build the confidence, courage, and character of the
girls that will one day be leading society to the future. Each year girls from around the world put
all of the things that they have learned about people and helping others to the test. There are
three major awards that can be earned in Girl Scouts, the bronze, the silver and the gold. Rosie
Houck has completed all three of them. An accomplishment that is obtained by fewer and fewer
girls each year. I have always loved helping people, said Rosie. Standing at a staggering height of
five foot zero, Rosie isn t exactly tall. Her shoulder length black... Show more content on

In fact she cringed and shook her head vigorously. That being said, but yet, I don t regret what I
did even a bit. It helped better the lives of people I didn t know, and will continue to do so with
people I will never meet. Said Rosie. That is exactly what happened, about a year later Rosie
went back to the corrals to see how they were holding up. As soon as she stepped out of the car
the owner came out and thanked her once again for all the work she had done. She helped ensure
the business stayed afloat for years to come. Knowing that you did something completely for
someone else while expecting nothing is a great feeling, said Rosie. That is what being a girl scout

Justice Is A Key Element Of Justice
My idea of justice has evolved in nuanced ways in which I did not predict at the onset of this
course. I have held consistent the idea of creating a more equal world as a key element of justice.
However, I have added important nuances in the way in which I think about and discuss this issue.
I discussed equality in my initial definition of justice. This sense of equality has developed to
include non humananimals and even matter into this conversation. Through Bennett I have
embraced the idea of flattening out the current human on top hierarchy by elevating non human
animals and matter to a similar plane as humans. In my definition of justice currently, I include not
only obvious human issues but also issues of matter and animals. This being said, it is integral to
clarify that the major crises that are present in our world cannot be categorized as solei human ,
animal or matter issues. What effects one, effects all. No individual node can be separated from the
assemblage that not only influences, but comprises it.
While I still support my assertion that justice can be found through the respecting and valuing of
all things, my understanding of the nature of this respect has deepened. It is difficult to gain deep
respect for things that you do not have intimate knowledge of. At the onset of the course, I knew I
should respect matter, however, if it had not been for this course I would not have understood why
I should have a deep respect for the lives of the

Essay On Fight Club
He d probably watched Fight Club one too many times growing up, both the novel and the film
had a marked impact on Trent s band and indeed his public persona. It d been a rocky road for
him to reach that place, and the character that he played was one born from necessity. Trent s
father was a lifelong biker, and the president of a prominent outlaw MC in California. The man
sold drugs, pimped out girls and did a little bit of everything and he d been a convict for much of
his son s early years. As a result, Trent was forced to grow up in group homes, and abuse from his

were two brothers in the group, both were Mexican Americans and they d lived their entire lives

The white guy was named Jackson and he was a longtime friend of Trent s and another one of
the guitarists, he was an especially liberal minded giant of a guy that stood about 6 8 and was
covered head to toe in tattoos. Of everyone in the group, he was the most hardcore against any
sort of racism and before blowing big, his claim to fame was being televised nationally at a riot,
where he punched a Nazi sympathizer in the face quite hard. He drank like a fish, but was
otherwise a sweetheart with a new family of his own, and Trent was proud to be godfather to his
twins. Their bassist was Trent s cousin Reggie who had come from a family of musicians. In
addition they had two more members, one was an Asian American young man who everyone
called kid and the other was a black woman who was petite but probably the most volatile in
temperament which was saying something. They were there to add texture to the sound and both
handled similar duties of sampling, keyboards, percussion and turntables. The kid s background
was in Hip Hop initially, and he d been a very popular DJ at a number of clubs before signing on,

Chest Pain In Pediatric Patients

Despite the frequency of the presenting symptoms, it is revealed that the majority of children who
report chest pain do not have true cardiac related chest pain. The evaluation and management of

Different Perspectives In Octavia Butler s Kindred
In Octavia Butler s Kindred, Dana and Kevin both experience many unbelievable events that
change their sense of reality. They each travel back to the antebellum South for different amounts
of time, gaining different insights from the same events. Kevin, a white man, travels back to a
time of privilege, while his wife Dana, a black woman, travels back to a timeof hardship and
enslavement. Their contrasting perspectives cause them to see the world differently. For example,
Kevin draws from his sole point of view, while Dana uses her own perspective with other people s
perspectives. No matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truththrough what
see and what they already know.
Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief
about where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was a dream (17). He says this
despite the fact that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His
perspective is different from Dana s, meaning what he sees isn t always what actually happens.
Dana goes back in time, while Kevin saw Dana vanish and reappear (16). Despite not knowing what
Dana experienced, he still believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana s experience was a
dream, and refers to his perspective as facts (16). By doing so, he asserts his perspective, the white
male perspective, is objective and truthful, while Dana s is illegitimate. Kevin s view is similar to

  • 2. Globalization of Korean Popular Culture in Asia Globalization of Korean Popular Culture in Asia 1. Introduction Since 1990s, Korean Popular Culture has had a strong influence in Asian countries, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore. This new popular cultural phenomenon in Asia is called the Korean Wave , also known as hallyu in Korean pronunciation, which refers to the surge of popularity of Korean popular culture abroad, particularly in Asia(Kin 284). The Korean Waveis first coined in mid 1999 by journalists in Beijing who are surprised by the fast growing popularity of Korean entertainment and popular Culture in China(Fiaola 1). Korean Wave certainly brings a big hit to Asian countries, but at the same time, some anti Korean feelings are aroused as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, originally, supposed to be the last work of Samsung Entertainment Group and the group will break up afterwards. Shiri, surprisingly, got a big hit from Korea and other Asian countries. Although it costs only about 2% of average budget of Hollywood films, it was popular throughout the world. As Diffrient mentioned, Shiri led to a pan Asian phenomenon after its releases in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan(42). Later on, films such as Joint Security Area and My Sassy Girl also gave a big hit to Asia, which further spread Korean popular culture to other Asian countries. As a Hollywood reporter said, Korea has transformed itself from an embattled cinematic backwater into the hottest film market in Asia (Segers 14). Korean TV dramas also floods the daily programming of free to air TV stations and even become part of the routine viewing habits of their respective audiences(Beng 2). Starting with What Is Love All About and Stars in My Heart in the late 1990s, and Winter Sonata and Dae Jang Geum in recent years, Korean television drama and its stars such as Bae Yong Jun and Lee Young Ae, have attracted Asian audiences. Korean TV dramas were dubbed into Mandarin in Taiwan in 2004 and into Cantonese in Hong Kong in 2005. It was soon dubbed for broadcasting in China and Japan in 2006. New Approaches And Education For The Success Of... 7New Approaches and Education for the Success of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems There is a common thinking in the academia and professional arenas that the solution to the untreated wastewater discharges into our water bodies can be prevented or mitigated mainly with the construction of wastewater sewer collection systems and wastewater treatment plants. Part of the purpose of this research is to revisit and analyze the benefits of using decentralized wastewater treatment technologies and evaluate the latest wastewater treatment technologies available. 7.1Overview of Centralized Wastewater Treatment Systems Infrastructure It is also of common knowledge that our nation s wastewater treatment infrastructure is widely recognized to be in serious overhaul, if not outright replacement. (Crawford 2011). Also it is known that wastewater management does not figure among the environmental legal and regulatory matters that command public attention, despite the direct human and environmental health impacts of wastewater infrastructure failures, to say nothing of the unsavory nature of ruptured sewage lines and massive sewage spills, with their attendant harms for both land and water pollution (Crawford 2011). This is due to a lack of knowledge and education to the public concerning this serious threat. A serious national wastewater treatment crisis is imminent. The need to address our wastewater infrastructure deficiencies is urgent and not only for the centralized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Woodticks In Saskatoon By Joy Kogawa Summary dtick Questions In the poem the speaker s daughter is being mocked by some white children for being Japanese. The speaker then has a flashback to her time living in Slocan. She remembers the time when the other white kids made fun of her and she ran into the forest to hide. When she reaches deep into the forest, she then listens for the voices of the kids to guide her back onto the path, and she vows to never go near the mountain alone again. Then she flash forwards back to the present and she reassures her daughter that they do not have woodticks in Saskatoon. From reading the poem it can be determined that the speaker is the author, Joy Kogawa. One of the major giveaways of this is name of the daughter: Deidre. Joy Kogawa has a daughter... However, upon reading the poem and the uses of the title within in the text we can also see the allusion drawn to Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, in which there is also a wall within Act V. In this act, the characters of Thisbe and Pyramus, who are lovers, are separated by a wall and are only able to communicate through a hole in the wall. Eventually their love for each other proves to be too strong and the wall then leaves. Parallels that can be drawn to the poem includes whispering through loose bricks , a reference to the hole in the wall in the play, also when the word dream is used in the third stanza references the title of the play, while the voice... from the wall can be compared to the talking wall in the play. The significance of these allusions in the title is that they reinforce the overall arching theme of the poem that there are always ways past obstacles or barriers and where these hindrances are, people will always be looking to overcome them. On a literal level, the author Joy Kogawa explores the various methods to evade a wall. She suggests ,through a door, sneaking, torturing, bombs, zeppelins, battering rams, whispering through a hole in the wall. All of these are methods which can work, but the one way we sometimes fail to realize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Sandra Postel in her article Where Have All the Rivers Gone? , Egyptdepended on the Nilefor most of its irrigation of crops including rice, cotton, and many others. In addition to ancient history, there s plenty to know about Egypt s modern history. Sometime around 1800, European powers dominated Egypt when other foreign powers were conquering the country. France and Britain, specifically, invaded the country for themselves for a moderate amount of time. • 8. Women s Rights in the 19th Century and Now Essay It would be a huge understatement to say that many things have changed when it comes to women s rights, positions, and roles in our society today since the 19th century. Actually, very few similarities remain. Certain family values, such as specific aspects of domesticity and performance of family duties are amongst the only similarities still present. Victorian women had several hardships to overcome. Education, marriage, leisure, and travel amongst other things were limited and controlled. A womanwas never to travel if not in the company of her parents or husband. Leisure, for example, was limited and a woman always had to look busy and find something to do. In a time when it was expected of a woman to behave a certain way and sexual desire was considered something only experienced by men, Kate Chopin spoke with exceptional openness about human sexuality. She then criticized society for its close mindedness. She helped to generate enlightened attitudes among both the women and men of her time. By not only admitting the fact that a woman has strong sexual desires, but also glorifying it, Chopin opened doors to better communication and understanding between men and women as a result of The Storm. This has changed significantly since the 19th century. Sex, amongst others, is no longer taboo to women and it has become a much more liberated subject. It is encouraged and accepted in today s society that a woman enjoys sexual pleasures outside the restraints of only pregnancy, even marriage. Women in the Victorian erahad very little to say when it came to marriage. Usually, the parents of the woman would make the choice for her as to whom she would marry based on a man s social status. It was not odd for a 15 year old girl to wed, unlike in today s society. Parents would usually look for a man who was wealthy enough to help the woman advance in her life, since women were mostly uneducated and only taught to be homemakers and mothers and not work. Why are they acting / behaving in certain ways? During their lunch break on day two, I noticed that Sparak and Simphiwe each had a brightly coloured blanket which they wrapped around their shoulders. They sat down, flat on the grass, and ate their lunch (consisting of spinach, potato and pap , which is a stiff, mealie meal), using their fingers to scoop their food into their mouths. It has been stated in the book of Ecclesiastes that those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious and blessing than those that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness and their end is mere madness. It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent person have a lot of wisdom are greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a lazy person which are full of foolishness. Such words can only lead to madness and nothing good can ever come out of them as compared to those from a diligent person which are more gracious and valuable. Laziness is therefore regarded as evil and has nothing good to offer to anyone and no one should pay attention to people with such qualities and tendencies. Ecclesiastes encourages us to pay more attention to the diligent people as they have a lot of wisdom which if put into practice; the results are good and much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research demonstrates there may be other intervening variables causing aggression. For the purpose of this paper I will consider physical states as human bodies because we are thinking beings, while the other material things have no mental processes. The question whether mindand body are the same thing, somehow related, or two distinct things not related, has been asked throughout the history of Philosophy, so some philosophers tried to elaborate arrangements and arguments about it, in order to solve the problem and give a satisfactory answer to the question. Materialism is considered a monistic view, since it considers that all things belong to this one fundamental kind of thing. Usually, the philosophers that believe in Materialism presuppose that, if the mind is a material thing, then it is reasonable to relate it to the brain or with the functioning of the brain, since the brain is a material thing and it is certainly associated with thinking. Opposed to Mind Body Materialism is Mind Body Dualism, a view which supports that mind and body are not identical, but, in some sense, radically different kinds of thing. It denies that the mind is the same of the brain, or a product of the brain, by arguing that the thoughts and the material things are composed of different substances, and the mind is a thinking thing that lacks the usual attributes of physical objects: size, shape, location, solidity, motion, etc. According to the Dualism, the soul is comprised of a non physical substance, while the body is constituted of matter. This view also establishes that mind and body are capable of causally affecting each other, even if they are necessarily not the same thing. When applying this notion the human body, the meaning becomes clearest: the intellect is responsible for all our acts, but it does not imply that the intellect is the brain. Wonder what the verdict is constitutionally? Let s dig in and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority of them were catholic. In the twentieth century, a number of states passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before class. The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school s mission to provide children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation. No More Minimums Zach Fulk Sociology 4611 Professor Bellair Introduction States throughout the country, including Ohio, have began a massive and struggling goal to decrease the prison population for many very vital reasons. To decrease the population it takes many conjoining and as a whole, teamwork to get laws passed that will allow inmates to serve a shorter or even no time in prison. The best and most effective way to lower the prison population is a collaborate effort and look into every effect that causes people to enter prison and remain in prison for an extended period of time. To eliminate the Ohio prison population by 20% over the next two years that requires a deduction from roughly 51,000 inmates to 40,800 inmates. This is a drastic reduction and is relatable to what the state of California is experiencing today. The method that I want to look into to reduce the population throughout Ohio s prisons is eliminating mandatory minimums and creating more successful programs to prevent recidivism. These programs to eliminate and also reduce the number of prisoners are nothing new and something that will take every bit of the two years allotted. With eliminating mandatory minimums it will shorten and even eliminate those who have committed nonviolent crimes from spending an unnecessary length of time in prisons. It is clear that the narrator is really trying to help Bartleby in the end, and if McCall had gone on and elaborated on his points mentioned above, explaining how he sees these characteristics of the narrator affecting Bartleby, he may have had a stronger argument. Another section where McCall s argument could be made stronger if he added how it relates more to Bartleby is when he writes, The Lawyer is constantly trying to use Bartleby s plight to touch off his own emotions (270). If McCall elaborated on how the lawyer is trying to use Bartleby s troubles to touch off his own emotions he might have made a more logical argument. Adding more detail to this statement would give the readers more information or insight into the relationship of the narrator and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

South Caroline issued the Declaration of the Causes of Secession because they believed Lincoln was anti slaver (Bartels). However during the most consequential period in American history, on November 1860 Abraham Lincolnwas elected as the sixteenth president of the United Statesand the first Republican President. As the commander in chief the union army, Lincoln needed to bring an end to the war and reunite the nation. On November 19, 1863 Abraham Lincoln gave one of the most inspirational wartime speeches at the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Gettysburg Addressevoked a sense of unity into the American citizens and human equality, which was greatly needed at that time. Lincoln s prerogative was to acknowledge the values our founding fathers had, honor the human sacrifices and remind the citizen of the optimistic purpose of war. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in humble surroundings, a one room log cabin with dirt floors in Kentucky. Coming from a farmer family Lincoln had no access to a formal education, so he self educated himself from the basics of English to the complicated language of law. Eventually he became a self taught Illinois lawyer and a great speaker. Lincoln s family didn t believe in the idea of slavery so he too grew up finding it frightful (History.com). Throughout modern history, rivalry and the race for dominance have plagued the ever accelerating world of technology. In the early 1900s bicycle shop owners Orville and Wilber Wright battled with Glenn Curtiss, a motorcycle engineer, in pioneering powered flight. Later, in the middle of the same century, the United States and the Soviet Union stood nose to nose as they wrestled to prove each other s superiority in outer space exploration. This century brings a new challenge for technology makers to fight about: Information, and particularly, the way in which consumers consume it. Computer giants, Microsoft and Apple have been at each other s throats since the 1980s, and to this day the two companies still can t get along like mature adults, but they continue to compete by inventing better and faster ways for people around the world to work, learn and play. As we will see, their competitive advertising says volumes about the personalities of the companies and the audiences for which they strive, and we ll excavate this by comparing two very different ads for two very similar products, the Microsoft Surface Tablet and the Apple iPad. When it comes down to pure, objective logic, I found the dry security of the Microsoft ad most effective as a sales piece, compared to the vague and emotional iPad spot, because it has the most complete and abundant product ... • 47. A Summary OfThe Rapture And The Book Of Revelation In K. Essex s article aptly named, The Rapture and the Book of Revelation, Essex outlines four promising facts regarding Revelation 3:10. He states, First, this promise applies not only to one local assembly existing in the days of the apostle John but to the entire church of Jesus Christ. The constant refrain in all seven messages from Christ to these churches is He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Second, the trial which is coming is not local, but is about to come upon the whole world. The persecutions of the past were usually limited to one country or area. This trial must refer to the tribulation to come when all the world will be amazed and follow after the beast (13:3), and all who worship him will come under the wrath of God. Third, those who dwell on the earth is not a suitable description for the members of the church. Fourth, the grammar of П„О·ПЃОП‰ ОµОє (tereГ¶ ek), though not conclusive, favors removal from the hour of trial. Not only does Essex, much like Svigel and I touch on the Greek origins of Rev 3:10, but he also picks apart the logic behind the trials coming about the whole earth. It is not local to one area, it will be meant for everyone left on the planet key word: left. Thusly, the whole church will have heard the Word from the Great Advocate by this time. Those who accepted and followed Christ would have been lifted into the air and taken up with Christ. Essex also points out the scripture that follows after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have held consistent the idea of creating a more equal world as a key element of justice. However, I have added important nuances in the way in which I think about and discuss this issue. I discussed equality in my initial definition of justice. This sense of equality has developed to include non humananimals and even matter into this conversation. Through Bennett I have embraced the idea of flattening out the current human on top hierarchy by elevating non human animals and matter to a similar plane as humans. In my definition of justice currently, I include not only obvious human issues but also issues of matter and animals. This being said, it is integral to clarify that the major crises that are present in our world cannot be categorized as solei human , animal or matter issues. What effects one, effects all. No individual node can be separated from the assemblage that not only influences, but comprises it. While I still support my assertion that justice can be found through the respecting and valuing of all things, my understanding of the nature of this respect has deepened. It is difficult to gain deep respect for things that you do not have intimate knowledge of.
