Ageism In The Workplace
Imagine being an older aged person going into an interview. You go through the entire interview
and kill it, nothing went wrong, and the interviewer even says the job is basically yours. When
leaving the interview, a younger kid walks in. The following day, you find out that you were
declined, and that the other applicant that walked in after got the job. Later, you find out that you
and that younger kid had the same qualifications. This is what happens when people experience age
discrimination. People don t understand how ageismcan go from harming one person, all the way
to an entire business. Discriminating against age is still happening all around and many people
don t know it s happening. More action needs to be taken in order to really... Show more content on

When people first consider this reason, it makes sense at first. Older youngers are more fragile
and can t do as much physically and technologically like young people can. Andrew Mayfair
says, Your business may lose the potential to mold and keep a valuable employee for years to
come (Mayfair). Andrew Mayfair points out in his article, The Consequences of Age
Discrimination at Work , how businesses believe that getting rid of older employees who can t
do as much as younger employees is helping the company. Mayfair then explains how older
employees, with their extensive knowledge, are the molds for the younger employees. Instead of
letting a younger employee slowly gain a vast amount of knowledge, the older employees already
possess this and can pass it down to the new and inexperienced employees. Businesses who will
discriminate against people of older age have the misconception that they are helping their business
by getting rid of older employees. Little do they realize, these discriminatory practices are causing
the adolescent employees to be substantially held back due to their little knowledge of the

Personal Worldview: Initial Statement
I believe we as human beings have distinguishing characteristic that we passed down to one
another since the beginning of time. Things such as the way we think, the way we feel, and the
way we act. It s what we use to provide what we receive as normal when we are judging how best
to live amongst our peers and as individuals. Human Nature is the tool we have used since the
first human being was crated and placed upon this earth. It is the tool we are all born with that
directs us in the decisions we make whether they are wise decisions or bad choices. Human nature
is who we are as a species. Human nature is why today s society is a ... Show more content on

So basically everything is left up to the individual. This was a bit much for me to grasp or even try
understanding. I am a Christian and stand firm in my belief in God and what awaits me in the
afterlife. I know and trust in the bible when it tells me that I will be held accountable for all that
I do that is immoral and sinful. My only salvation is to pray for forgiveness and repent. I believe
that when I meet my maker I will be fully aware of what is going on and although my body, the
keeper of my soul, will be no more: I will. I do not believe that I will become a part of nature or this
force that pantheists speak about. I know that I am not God. I am a product of God made in his
image.
I found the New Age Movement to be a very interesting worldview. At times it had me scratching
my chin at the different concepts that they boast to be true. In the end and with further research
I realize that they too fall short of Christianity. There is just no way the world will be able to run
without any guidance and if we could govern ourselves then we would all be living in a state of
peace right now. Unfortunately we are not and it is because the world has laid down their bibles
and picked up pamphlets of other hogwash that has blinded them to the way of the bible. There is
only one true God and way to salvation. I continue to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and God the
creator. With all the worldviews I have come in

Persuasive Essay On Refugees
The issue of refugees heated up when President Donald Trump became president. He is totally
against of letting refugees into the United States. As most people who aren t refugees don t
really care what he does, but people who are refugees would have a different story. The UN has
never really had any issues towards refugees until Donald Trump had became president. The
growth of refugees has increased because of war, being discarded from the country, or not
following the right religion. Historically we have let many refugees come into our country in the
past. According to The Washington Post, global displacement levels declined to a historic low in
2005 but started escalating again because of a series of conflicts, including the U.S. invasion of
Iraq. By mid 2015, the total number of refugees and internally displaced people had climbed to an
all time high of more than 60 million people, the UNHCR estimates reflecting both the masses of
people newly uprooted from war torn regions of Syria and South Sudan, as well as those displaced
years ago from places like Pakistan and Afghanistan who still haven t been able to return home. So
throughout the history, many refugees have been fleeing their countries but letting refugees into
the United States, it could cause a lot of problems like it would cost the UN more money, there are
billions of refugees why not help them all, and there could be terrorist in the group. What this
evidence suggests is that this is a very significant

East India Company Essay
Introduction
The East India Company (EIC), formally chartered as the Governor and Company of Merchants of
London trading into the East, it was also well known as the Honourable East India Company, and
its primary purpose was to trade with the East Indies, though it mainly landed up trading with the
Indian subcontinent. It started off as a Joint stock company. The company petitioned Queen
Elisabeth I to sail to the East Indies after the defeat of the Spanish armada which prevented
privateers from sailing to those waters because of the trade monopoly it owned over there.
They finally reached India after 2 failures and 3 ships lost at sea, they received a charter. The
charter was given to George, Earl of Cumberland, and 215 Knights, Aldermen, ... Show more

The east India Company in 1682 were attempting to gain a firman, a permit to have regular
trading rights all over the Mughal Empire. But Josiah Child the then governor of the east India
Company interfered and Aurangzeb broke off negotiations this sparked off the Childs War. Then
an attempt was made to fortify all British, gain control of Chittagong then fortify it and to set up
a mint. And for this purpose 400 cannons along with 600 men on board 12 ships of war were
supposed to be joined by 400 men from madras to capture and fortify Chittagong but instead

after another attempt by Aurangzeb to resume negotiations that the British rejected. The Mughals
attacked all British and ordered for the confiscation of their property. All British property was
lost except for Bombay and Madras. Bombay was surrounded by the Mughals for a year, in 1960
the British surrendered and were forced to lay prostrate before the emperor, pay large fines and
promised better behaviour. There was no incident after this caused by the east India Company

The Importance Of Being A Photographer By Photographer
Anyone can be a photographer, as long as you zoom in on what you love. There was a girl who
found a liking to photography because she enjoyed capturing the essence of nature and art. She
loved being able to capture the uniqueness of objects living or not because there are so many
things people should get to see as well as think about how the picture can make that person feel.
Seeing a picture of a rainforest with beautiful trees and glittering water could make someone feel
relaxed, they can also develop an imagination in pictures like this. And that is why she wishes to be
a Photographer. The important thing about being a photographer is that there are certain techniques
and equipment in this career. When someone takes a picture, someone is able to put it on a
computer and edit it. An individual is able to put in color corrections, and other specialized effects.
When editing someone can use a computer, high quality printer, or editing software. When taking
pictures of animals, the individual must wear a type of clothing with a certain fabric so they do not
scare away the animal. Being a photographer takes more effort than someone might think. They
need to have the correct training, and adequate education. Employers look for photographers who
are also imaginative and creative. Those in entry level jobs learn how to set up the lights, cameras,
and other equipment. They may receive many different assignments involving camera adjustments
or decisions on what kind of subject

The Negative Stereotypes Of African Americans
others (f) Black people have been known to be able to do incredible things from themselves and
others. They are able to turn nothing into something and use it for the greater good of their own
communities. Since the Great Renaissance and the inception of the Black Wall Street, African
Americans were a force to American society. Through the Black Wall Street, with their own money,
Blacks were able to open up jobs and business that would recreate and maintain the socioeconomic
flow within their own communities. Businesses, shops, banks, and health care facilities came out
of the Black Wall Street. Since its destruction in 1921, African Americans and their sense of having
something that they can call their own has not been revitalized. Till this day, Blacks rely on their
white counterparts to fulfill their needs in day to day living. There are a few ways that African
Americans can give to themselves, which will continue to give throughout the year. In return, this
will make them (as a people) stronger, more unified, and powerful than ever before. One important
thing that African Americans can do to change their outlook and perception of life is to stop
feeding into the negative stereotypes placed upon them. Through various forms of entertainment
and art, Blacks have failed short of sustaining their dignity by buying into these stereotypical roles
that are used as forms of entertainment to their fellow man. Depictions of heavy drug users, single

Wild Cat Falling Belonging Analysis
How are Australian identity and culture represented in the texts you have studied? While some
texts choose to represent the Australian landscape as being harsh and untamed, others appear to
present them in a more positive fashion. However, when we get to the heart of each text, it s
context and purpose we find a common theme of connection with the land within them. In this
analysis I will be using Wild Cat Falling by Mudrooroo, My Country by Dorothea Mackellar and
The Drovers Wife by Henry Lawson. Wild Cat falling represents the main character as having a
disconnection with the Australian landscape, which leads to him having an identity crisis, not
knowing where he belongs. My Country represents the authors connection with the bush landscape,

sentance uses emotive language of hopelessness and disconnection to get the reader to respond on
an emotional level and the readers emotional response from that positions them to share the writers
viewpoint. This technique is used in this text to convey the sense of rejection of his traditional
connection to the landscape that he refuses to believe that he has. The effect on the audience is that
we feel a strange disconnection with the Australian landscape and a feeling that we don t belong.
On page 30 the main character quotes on clear nights I could see the water alight under the space

Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate Sexist Capitalism
Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate sexist Capitalism:
The emergence of Stay at Home Dads and The Providing Woman
Introduction:
Marxist feminism is a sub category of the larger feminist theory; this kind of feminism is primarily
attentive to explaining how women are oppressed through capitalist systems and the emergence of
the concept of private property. According to Marxist feminists, women s true emancipation, all
over the world, can only be achieved through a fundamental reorganization of the capitalist
economy that does not fairly compensate women s labor. Additionally, Marxist feminists do
criticize Marx for what they think was his partial analysis of sexism under capitalism and total
indifference to gender imbalance. However, they do not dismiss the basic Marxist fundamentals.
Theoretical and Historical Backgrounds:
In its early days, the Women s Liberation Movement, four main currents of feminism were identified
:
Liberal feminism, which is mainly concerned with solving all social problems to fight ignorance
and social restraints on freedom of choice for everyone, not just woman.
Radical feminism which focuses on male patriarchy as the main cause of the oppression of women.
Socialist feminism which believes in a dual system, indeed it focuses on both the public and private
spheres and claims that woman freedom can only be achieved by working to end economic and
cultural foundations of women s domination.
Marxist feminism, on the other hand is a

Comparing Sonny s Blues And The Fire Next Time
James Baldwin s works, both Sonny s Blues and The Fire Next Time, weave the themes of black
identity, family , and religion more elegantly than I have ever witnessed by any other writer. When
reading The Fire Next Time readers witness the disharmony and miscommunication that wedges
itself between a father and son. Baldwin, a teenager at the time, acts as many teenagers do, hoping
to find various ways to spite his father first by joining a church and becoming saved, but not his
father s church; then by insulting his father s beliefs and rules by inviting a non christian into the
familyhome, although he already anticipates his father s reaction to such an act; and finally by
joining the pulpit, although he is not a true believer. Baldwin

Social Exchange Theory And Domestic Violence Essay
When sociologists set out to do their research and theorize what they had found at the end of their
research project, they often find that the methodologies that they use to research and theorize are
relatively similar. Such is the case for the social exchange theory and feminist approach to studying
domestic violence. Sabatelli (1993) explained the central premise of the social exchangetheory as to
see social relationships as extended markets in which each individual act out of self interest with the
goal of maximizing profits (p.385). On the other hand, Menon (2009) states that a feminist
methodology or approach to researching and theorizing about domestic violence to be a process that
engages in an epistemology that transcends the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is, individuals should only stay in a relationship if they feel that they are better off staying
rather than leaving. However, the feminist approach may be less subjective towards seeing victims
of domestic violence as having that power and ability to leave, even if they wanted to. The
feminist methodology takes on a more realistic approach to understanding the difficulties that
women may have leaving, even if they willfully wanted to leave. On the other hand, the social
exchange theory is more idealistic in that it sees every individual as having the same amount of
agency in deciding whether or not they would want to stay in a relationship, filtering out the issues
that might be holding victims of domestic violence back from leaving their abusive partners.
Nevertheless, the potential policy implications from both approaches could be similar in that they
emphasize on equality in relationships. Therefore, both would be inclined to allow more agency
and freedom to individuals in a abusive relationship to leave their partners through providing
financial resources and other counselling services to help them cope with their

The Things They Carried’ by Tim O’Brien Essay
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien provides a insider s view of war and its distractions,
both externally in dealing with combat and internally dealing with the reality of war and its
effect on each solder. The story, while set in Vietnam, is as relevant today with the conflicts in
Iraq and Afghanistan as it was in the 1960 s and 1970 s in Southeast Asia. With over one million
soldiers having completed anywhere from one to three tours in combat in the last 10 years, the
real conflict might just be inside the soldier. O Brien reflects this in his writing technique, using a
blend of fiction and autobiographical facts to present a series of short narratives about a small unit
of soldiers. While a war story, it is also an unrequited... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of pathos and ethos in tandem strengthens his writing, but also leads to some parts being
almost tedious. As PFCs or Spec 4s, most of them were common grunts and carried the standard
M 16 gas operated assault rifle. The weapon weighed 75 pounds unloaded, 8.2 pounds with its full
twenty round magazine. Depending on numerous factors, such as topography and psychology, the
riflemen carried anywhere from twelve to twenty magazines... (O Brien 1990). This paragraph
almost drones on losing the reader in a myriad of technical mumbo jumbo and measurements
before getting back on target with the story of the soldier s life in the field. The organization of the
text can be hard to follow when he goes on about the equipment. On the other hand O Brien takes
the role of narrator; clearly he is invested emotionally in the story. However, the drama of the
moment can be diluted with too much fact and not enough emotion. Taking each character and
peeling back the soldier layers to expose us to the person underneath, he also creates moments
that are poignant and riveting. For the most part they carried themselves with poise, a kind of
dignity. Now and then, however, there were times of panic, when they squealed or wanted to

Centipedes Research Paper
Most pests are adapted for either outdoor or indoor living. However, when searching for a mate, an
easy meal, a secure place for depositing their eggs or a nurturing environment, outdoor pests will
sometimes find their way inside your home or business. Sometimes, these pests are temporary and
quickly return to the wild, but at other times, they find themselves too content to leave. Pest control
professionals refer to these types of pests as occasional invaders. In Florida, you might find yourself
contending with the following occasional invaders.
Earwigs
Earwigs are small; adults usually have a body length of about 0.5 inch. Their legs are light brown,

When agitated or threatened, they can emit a very foul smelling spray. Palmetto bugs prefer warm,
humid climates, so when they wander indoors, they typically shelter in unused or infrequently
used areas; you may find them in utility rooms or around water heaters. Outdoors, they tend to
make their homes in the holes of trees, under piles of leaves or beneath boards. In color, they are
dark brown with black hues, but if they have molted recently, they may appear reddish brown.
Other Occasional Invaders
There are several different types of ants that may invade your home or business, but in Florida, the
most common types are carpenter ants, red imported fire ants, pharaoh ants and pavement ants.
Because different types of ants require different treatments, it is always best to consult a reputable,
experience pest control company if ants invade.
A few types of spiders prefer to make their permanent homes inside human structures, but outdoor
spiders sometimes come inside to look for a mate or when food is in short supply. In Florida, the
most common outdoor spiders that may occasionally invade are jumping spiders, wolf spiders
and black widows; there have been a few isolated instances of brown recluse spiders reported. Of
these four types, only the black widow and the brown recluse pose any health

Rhetorical Devices In One Thousand Paper Cranes
Mode Paragraph: The rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes a is narrative that follows
the narrative arc. It is narrative because it follows the narrative arc of exposition, inciting
incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and a resolution throughout the story. The books
starts off with the inciting incident of the bomb being on Hiroshima which cause Sadoko to
become ill and die in the future. The rising action lets us follow Sadoko as her condition worsens
The climax of the book is Sadoko s death if shifted the direction of the book to a what will
happen next. The falling action let s Sadoko s class take charge of how the will remember her.
The resolution is Sadoko s class fundraising to have the peace park built for all the kids that died
because of the radiation. That is why the rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes is narrative
.
Character Paragraph: In this story Sadoko is the protagonist that is having to overcome the
newly grow issue of leukemia. Also this story main focuses on her and her action. I believe
Sadoko is a flat character because throughout the book we are reminded of her strong will and
determination which was never be deterred until death. Which can be seen when Sadoko is
described as being vibrant and athletic and we know on page 32 and toward the end you can see
her hard work never ended when she still continued to make paper cranes even after her condition
worsened. In addition, I believe Sadoko is a dynamic character. Came to this conclusion, we see
her express many different characters. She is happy, saddened at times, kind, Optimistic, and
cheerful. In conclusion, I feel these ways because Sadoko s spirit and many character traits stand
strong.
Point Of View Paragraph: The point of view of this story is third person omniscient because we
are able to understand the feelings and thought process inside of each character. The paragraph I
will rewrite is on page 41 and I will change the point of view from third person omniscient to first
person.

Summary Of Early Childhood Observation
The child s engagement in imaginative or fantasy play is typically of a preschooler s functioning
level. Preschoolers delight in fantasy and play and engage their newly found cognitive abilities to
extend their world of make believe (Timberlake Culter, 2005). He appeared to delight in fantasy
playwith his action figure and was able to create sound effects to further expand upon the fantasy,
suggesting his age and development is consistent with the expectations of a preschooler. According
to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) social and emotional developmental
milestones for a four year old child, the child under observation appears to be meeting established
benchmarks as observed by the child s enjoyment in participating in activities, creativity with make
believe play, preference to engage with another child rather than by himself, and cooperation with

At the age of 6 years old, a child would most likely experienced the school system which would

happening in middle childhood development. This paper will examine what these changes affect
the child s ability to function in society. This analysis will focus on the normal course of

Studies show that childhood injuries and deaths occur right in their home (Morrongiello, Corbett,
McCourt, Johnston, 2006). In the United States, it is estimated that 1 in 4 children will experience
an injury that will need medical attention (Morrongiello, Corbett, McCourt, Johnston, 2006).
Erikson s psychosocial theory is an excellent way to better understand why a child will get injured
by providing a different perspective (Ginsburg, 1992). This will lead to more extensive research on
childhood injuries (Ginsburg, 1992).
Social skills
If the child is unable to play with others, participate in school activities and demonstrate proper
social behavior. The parents or the teacher should intervene to ask the child why they are not
participating. Failure to participate in these developmental activities could be a sign of low self
esteem, depression, abuse and being bullied by others.
The child develops a sense of pride and competence in new skills they learn (Huffman, Younger,
Vanston, 2010). For example, this accomplished by being confident that they score a goal when
they play soccer, spelling a word correctly or putting shape blocks in the correct place. A sense of
pride may be felt when they contribute to society (Huffman, Younger, Vanston, 2010). Opening a
door for others, fundraising by selling chocolate bars, volunteering in the community are some
examples of how the child can feel this pride. The

which is rare in Iceland since there are very few trees we were marvelling at the power of vast
waterfalls which crashed down the face of dark cliffs into deep pools and out again into salmon

Bjorn, who was generously acting as our guide for the day, explained that the lowland areas would

Solving Ethical Dilemmas in the Accounting Profession
The Dilemma of an Accountant
Baker Greenleaf was one of the Big Eight accounting firms. Daniel Potter was a highly ethical
accountant that placed a lot of value on integrity. He was hired to work as an accountant for the
firm. Baker like many other firms was faced with a dilemma that tested the firm s ethical standings.
Even though a firm may be faced with a difficult decision, the firm s ethical standing helps
determine the best ethical decision for each situation. To reach the best ethical decision it is best to
use philosophical approaches in addition to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dan is a guy that has high ethics and integrity who bases his decisions on those aspects.
Baker Greenleaf is the firm handling the account. Baker s reputation is at stake, if the wrong
decision is made the firm s reputation may be ruined. The firm could lose clients, revenue, and
face lawsuits if the wrong decision is reached. The wrong decision may also cause the firm to lose
investors.
Oliver, who is the project senior and has about six years of experience with Baker risks losing a
promotion. He also risks not gaining exclusive control over the account. This could cause Baker to
lose profit.
The client (SUB) has it reputation at risk. The clients may lose potential buyers if people
discovered the SUB falsifies its reports. The clients may also face lawsuits if the reports are not
corrected.
Gene is assisting Dan with the account and she may have a promotion at risk too. She has her
reputation, ethics, and integrity on the line. Participating with the wrong decision could also put
her job at Baker at risk.
Clients/customers of the SUB may be over charged if the reports are falsified. The clients/customers
may also choose to do business with another company because of the situation.
Solution for the Dilemma
Dan s decision to refuse to falsify the reports was the right decision not only for himself but the
firm as well. Dan s decision was based on the deontology approach; he was more concerned about
his duties, obligations, morals,

The Depletion Of The Ozone Layer
Over hundreds of thousands of years humans have adapted their way of life to the environment
they live in resulting in us developing different physical attributes, shelters, clothing, foods,
languages and beliefs. But there are elements in our world that all humans, no matter where or
how they live depend on, water and air. Both are essential for life but air also protects all of us and
it is therefore understandable that the response to the depletion of the ozone layer became
international. This essay will look at what the ozone layer is, why it was depleting, how the
international response to this situation developed and what this collaboration means for our future.
The envelope of gases surrounding the earth is called the atmosphere and it serves three critical
functions: it provides life giving oxygen, keeps the earth warm, and protects us from deadly
ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Most of the atmosphere consists of nitrogen and oxygen
(See Figure 1). But these gases do not keep us warm or protect the earth from UV rays. For these
functions you have to turn to some of the trace gases found in the atmosphere, commonly referred
to as greenhouse gases. They are: water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and nitrous oxide.
These trace gases function like the transparent covering of a greenhouse, allowing sunlight to filter
through to the earth s surface, then trapping in the heat. Without this greenhouse effect the earth s
temperature would plummet far

Essay On Texas Government
The Texas Government has long been considered a weak type government because it is not the
government which holds all of the power, it is the voter. This weak system of government can be
seen all the way up through Texas executive power. The Federal Government, under the authority of
the U.S. Constitution has a comparatively strong centralized form of government. The plural
executive in Texasand the Executive of the United Statesare vastly different in principle and policy.
This paper will explain what the plural executive is and how it works in Texas, compare it to the
U.S. Executive branch, and explain why the plural executive was created.

The Case Of Plessy V. Ferguson
Segregation is the enforced separation of different racial groups in a country, community, or
establishment. During segregation people of different races had to ride in different rail cars and
attended separate schools. In two cases, Plessy V. Ferguson and Brown V. Bored of Education, the
Fourteenth Amendment was argued. The outcome of these two court cases effected African
Americans and their fight against segregation. These two court case are similar in their fight for a

Introduction GIS is an abbreviation for Geographic Information Systems. GIS is a perfect blend of
geography and technology. People can accumulate various forms of location data (both tangible and
intangible) and produce living, breathing maps. By utilizing the power of Geographic Information
Systems, users can create powerful applications. These applications can range in size from being
small (surveying a single farm) to large (displaying real time voting across the country in a
presidential election). The paper will begin with a literature review on the sources used for research
including conference papers, lectures, and trade magazines. Immediately following the literature
review, there will be the discussion which entails a thorough explanation of the fundamental
concepts that contribute to the foundation of Geographic Information Systems. After the
explanation of concepts, there will be high level summary of Roger Tomlinson s GIS
implementation plan for companies. This paper will then discuss the current trends and major
industries that are utilizing GIS. In the end, there will be a conclusion that will include a future
analysis on GIS. Literature Review Discussion Geographic Information Systems is a basic input

Formal And Substantive Theory Of The Rule Of Law
The statement above said by Lord Bingham, from The Rule of Law (2007) 66 (1) Cambridge

state does not provide human protection. This statement can be looked upon, agreed and

Lance Armstrong Hero
Although it is a literary device, the idea of a tragic hero can be applied to real life figures in
society, in this case Lance Armstrong, a professional cyclist, began as an adopted child that into a
common family. Armstrong s story differs from the common Shakespearean hero, but he later
achieved his nobility through cycling. From a young age he competed in triathlons that ranged
from swimming to what he took a passion in, cycling. Despite being very new to the professional
scene, within one year he and his team had won a championship hosted in Norway. Suspicion rose

unhealthy cycle because it lead him down a pathway of drinking and drugs right before he

he still wanted to conquer every race in sight. With every race that he won, it was almost as if a

Why Do British Soldiers Wear Uniform
A common myth that I chose was the myth regarding the British Soldiers and their red coats.
The myth was the explanation of why the British soldiers wore red coats. The myth back then
and that is still circulating is that the British soldiers wore red coats so their enemies could not
see blood on them when they were injured. Ultimately, if you didn t have a knowledge of the
exact reason, you would automatically assume it was a war tactic. It would make sense in
preventing one soldier or another to be sought out because of an injury (weakness) making them
an easy target. Let s look at the myth of the British Soldiers, the reason behind their red coats and
why this myth still circulates today. First, let s discuss the myth of the British soldiers. Their
uniforms they were red and white. The majority of their uniform was white. So rationally
speaking, it wouldn t make sense. In fact, the uniform would need to be almost all red to meet this
myth. If the uniform was all red would blood still show up on it? Many already know that or have

The Setting for Thomas Hardy s The Withered Arm and Other Wessex Tales
In the following essay I seek to show evidence of how Thomas Hardy was acutely aware of the
social status of people, how village and town life was conducted, how men and women reacted to
their own sex and to each other and the part religion played in people s daily lives.
Social class is raised a lot in Hardy s pieces. Even though these stories were all written at a different
time and then put together, you can see it is a strong theme in the book.
In the Withered Arm, there is instantly a strong sense of upper and lower class. You learn of a

How Did Technology Shape American Culture
Technology and music have always been interlinked. As technology improves ways of recording
and distributing music improves. Over history we have gone from scratchy records to clear and
portable MP3s. New and innovative technology have helped to shape America s culture as a nation.
In 1877 the first human voice was recorded by Thomas Edison using tinfoil. He was attempting to
improve the telegraph when he realized that when he moved tape through the machine it made a
noise that sounded similar to speech. He then placed a stylus on to a cylinder made of tinfoil and
spoke the words of Mary had a little lamb into the makeshift machine.

Before music radio stations broadcasted things such as sermons, sports and the news. Department
stores would also have their own stations and they used them to advertise their merchandise.
In 1926 the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began the National Broadcasting Network
(NBC). These were groups of stations that worked with local stations to syndicate radio shows.
These shows focused mostly on music and featured several different live performers. The types of
music were diverse and could vary from country to jazz.
The Golden Age of Radio was the time period of 1930 1955. During this time was the great
depression and radio was a way to listen to music and receive the news for free. It was a cheap way
to have entertainment instead of more expensive ways such as going to a live concert or the movies.
Eventually radio shows and broadcasts about news decreased in popularity. All that was left was
music. Radio networks transitioned to playing prerecorded music of popular artists. The most
popular type of station was a station that plays Top 40. Top 40 is the top 40 songs on the music
charts in that particular time period. FM or radio was introduced soon after this and it instantly

Differentiation in the European Union Integration Process
From time to time it is worth reminding ourselves why twenty seven European nation states have
come together voluntarily to form the partnership that is the European Union. 1 Europe has a
history of war and conflict that predates living memory and the idea of a united Europe is
something that appears repeatedly in that history. Hitler, Napoleon, and the many Roman Emperors
all sought a united Europe. Their quests although in many ways motivated by a horrifying desire
for power sparked the minds of philosophers and other political thinkers to imagine Europe united
in harmony and peace despite national differences. Today we have the European Unionwhich is

Therefore, member states are making a great effort to be a part of this group so that they to will
continue to move forward and not be left behind. In such cases differentiation allows for more
efficient integration and acts as a motivation for further integration.5 This is also seen in
enhanced cooperation. Enhanced cooperation makes it possible for a group of at least eight
member states to integrate further than the treaties require of them so long as it remains open to
the other member states, and aims to further the objectives of the Union. The group can use the
Union s institutions and mechanisms in order to do this. Recently, ten countries were attempting
to develop a harmonized divorce law because the Union has been unable to agree on one. The
problem with the divorce laws is in the case of couples who were born in different countries and
can shop around for the best place for them to divorce. The European Union has been attempting to
achieve a harmonized divorce law but Sweden has blocked it because it has very liberal divorce
laws and fears unequal treatment based on gender.6 Austria, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary,

Essay on Parkinson Disease (PD)
Introduction
Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized mainly by
physical and psychological disabilities. This disorder was named after James Parkinson, an
English physician who first described it as shaking palsy in 1817 (Goetz, Factr, and Weiner, 2002).
Jean Martin Charcot, who was a French neurologist, then progressed and further refined the
description of the disease and identified other clinical features of PD (Goetz, Factr, and Weiner,
2002). PD involves the loss of cells that produce the neurotransmitter dopamine in a part of the
brain stem called the substansia nigra, which results in several signs and symptoms (Byrd, Marks,
and Starr, 2000). It is manifested clinically by tremor, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although many theories and hypotheses were raised as to why this happens, there is no solid
information supporting the physiological cause of this, but it is surely one of various factors that
may lead to the development of PD.
Neuroanatomy of the Basal Ganglia It has been known that PD is a disorder affecting the basal
ganglia. The term basal ganglia is generally applied to a collection of nuclei situated deep within the
cerebral hemispheres, lying laterally to the thalamus (Gazzeniga, George, and Mangun, 2008). The
basal ganglia are important subcortical structures. They are composed of five nuclei: caudate,
putamen, globus pallidus, subthalamic nucleus, and substantia nigra. These nuclei are not thought of
a single anatomical entity; rather, they form a functional unity whose contribution is greatly to
motor control. Interestingly, this system does not influence movement through spinal cord
pathways, but rather acts as part of a feedback loop to all areas of the cerebral cortex, with primary
input into motor areas (Aird, 2000). A number of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters are
what control this whole process, and a balance of both is required to ensure that smooth, purposeful
movement takes place. In order to understand the pathways of which the basal ganglia take part in,
it is essential to know the input and output connections of the basal ganglia. The input

Taking a Look at Ancient Israel
The Jewish religion makes Israel s culture in 722 B.C. 540 B.C. distinctive. Israel s religion is

The Israelites way of life was influenced by their religion. They maintained their faith even when

Miller was back at it last night, managing to pitch himself into and out of a messy seventh inning
when Cubs second baseman Javier Baez loaded the bases with a single. Miller got the outs and
the game moved on. Even though it wasn t his usual pristine performance, Miller proved that he
s equipped to handle almost anything, and he can be that dependable guy for the Tribe. Lucky
enough for us, Cubs ace Jon Lester wasn t on top of his game either, allowing the Indians to
score some key runs. Cubs fans everywhere have got to be a little worried, especially as the
Indians continued to show their rock solid defense and excellent bullpen rotation. Tonight s
game, however, could be a different story. The Cubs are sending Jake Arrieta to the mound
against Trevor Bauer, and I absolutely hate that matchup. Bauer is a loose cannon, who easily
loses his temper and gets in funks. Quite frankly, I m not confident in his ability to win Game 2.
Arrieta is one of my favorite Cubs pitchers, a guy with raw talent and a killer sinker. To go 2 0 at
home, the Indians must rely on their team chemistry and Tito s 9 0 record in World Series

Tristan And Iseult Comparative Essay
The Romance of Tristan and Iseult, by Joseph BГ©dier, and Jean Cocteau s 1943 cinematic
adaptation of the epic love story Eternal Return, both portray the love between Tristan and Iseult,
and Patrice and Natalie as an agonizing cancer that overpowers the lovers after they consume the
love potion. But the differences of how and when the lovepotion is administered, and the lovers
feelings for each other before the potion is drunk, reveal different depictions of the love potion
between the novel and the film.
The first difference between the film and the novel is when the two lovers drink the love potion.
In the book, they drink the love potion when they are still on the boat and have dropped anchor by
an island ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Tristan is injured after battling the dragon and Iseult is healing him Her glance linger[s] on
the face of [Tristan]; she [sees] that he [is] beautiful (BГ©dier, 32). Here she is already falling
for him. She also gets upset when he says that she will marry King Mark, and tremble[s] for
shame and anguish...it [is] to another that he [is] delivering her (BГ©dier, 37). In these two
instances before the love potion is drunk, Iseult is already showing signs of affection for Tristan,
albeit as much as the decorum of the day allows her. In the film, Natalie also shows her love for
Patrice before they consume the love potion. Like the book, she is upset when Patrice says that
he wants her to marry his uncle, and later on their journey from the island, when Patrice asks her
if she thought he was proposing to her, she scornfully replies you are a child, but cannot stop the
tears from forming in her eyes. When Morholt comes looking for Patrice at Natalie s home, she
says that she hates Patrice and will have him out of there in the morning. She is saying this
because she loves Patrice and wishes to protect him from Morholt, who is there to get his
revenge. She also says that she will marry Morholt, and then she says that they cannot get
married if he kills Patrice and ends up in jail. Once again Natalie s words are to protect Patrice, and
her actions speak louder than her words, because she refuses to kiss

Short Story Powerball Winning A Grand Amount Of Money Essay
Sometimes one finds themselves with everything, but the contemplates and wonders if they are
truest pleased. In Powerball, winning a grand amount of money can fulfill one for a while, but
then something can unexpectively change that satisfaction forever. Humans can never be gratified.
Primarily, being unsatisfied can lead one to become solitary because of a loss or just having to
much and not having no one to share it with. For instance, in Powerball it says, My granddaughter
is dead because of the money. The wants of more and the exaggerated amounts of money to
Whittaker is granddaughter led to her death. That then causes an emptiness in Whittaker is life
because she was his only grandchild that he dearly loved and cherished. The desire

Nursing Mobility And Safety
Mobility and safety are two nursing topics that are very related. Safety is the key to ensure that the
patient can remain mobile. It is important that the patient has ways to move around without fear of
falling. It is also imperative that the patient knows how to move safely and use mobility devices.
The nurse needs to understand how these two topics go together to ensure that the patient will
remained unharmed at the hospital and in the home. As stated earlier, safetyis so important to make
sure that patient keeps their mobility. The surroundings need to be safe to prevent falls. When
falls are prevented, the patient remains mobile. One safety precautions to ensure that falls do not
happen is to have a clear area for the patient to be able to walk around. This means not having
objects in their pathway or rugs in their walkway. Having these objects in the way can cause the
patient to have a fall. Having rooms well lit will prevent falls. If they are able to see... Show more

There might be certain movements that can affect mobility in the future or could re injure they
surgical site. For example, after a hip replacement surgery patients are given and abduction pillow.
According to Hip Rehab After Surgery , the pillow is used to prevent the patient from dislocating
their new hip. After the surgery for safety reasons their mobility must be restricted while it heals.
When they do the surgery, they cut through muscles and those have to grow back. This will prevent
further injury and the patient will be able to get back their normal mobility after it is healed.
Although there are certain actions that post operation patients cannot do they still need to be
mobile. The patient is moved as soon as the patient is able to handle it. Getting the patient up will
prevent blood clots in their legs and promote blood circulation. Proper blood flow to the legs will
mean that they can remain mobile and stay

A New Dystopia By George Orwell
A New Dystopia
Who will reign supreme; Aldous Huxley or George Orwell? Ever since these two authors
released their dystopian novels over 50 years ago, both authors and avid fans have argued as to
which dystopia will take over our society. Will it be the brute force, boot and gun approach of
Orwell s dystopia or the all loving, drug accepting society that Huxley illustrates? If you take a
closer look, a mix of both dystopias is quite apparent in our society today; we are living in our
own modern, advanced and constantly developing dystopia. The topics discussed in these two
novels cover a variety of subjects, sex, drugs, freedom, religion and beliefs, and life in general.
Both have their own idea of what outcome these topics will take in their most dire form. In this
paper I will be comparing and contrasting their differences and then comparing them to our world
today in an effort to see which direction our society is headed.
The topic of sex in these two novels is depicted in very different ways. In 1984, sex and intimate
relationships are taboo. Big Brother thinks that a relationship with intimacy between two
individuals may cause them to unite together and could possible lead to the questioning of Big
Brother, which is unacceptable and potentially dangerous. On the opposite side of the spectrum, in
Brave New World, everyone is expected to engage with as many partners as possible. Also, that
engaging with only one partner a number of times is suspicious. In fact if you don

The Berlin Wall And The Wall
On November 9,1989 the German rulers finally allowed the Wall to be taken down. The Berlin
Wall was according to Rosenberg a physical division between West Berlin and East Germany in
order to keep East Germans from fleeing to the West (Rosenberg). History always seems to repeat
itself because even in modern times the usage of a wallto keep people from moving in large number
is still viable. Nonetheless, like the Berlin wall and the Great Wall of Chinabefore that, wallsare just
that walls and unfortunately they are not enough to keep individuals from getting to the other side.
With the upcoming presidential elections in the United States there is a party member in
particular who promises: that if elected will construct a wall separating The United States of
America and its southern neighbor Mexico with a concrete wall. With this in mind, it is easy to
write off the wall and guess at a rough estimate with dollars in mind but what is more important
than money is how this wall would impact the surrounding areas where the wall itself is to be
constructed. Not only that but if such a wall is to be built it will also have an everlasting impact on
the local economies near the site. Although constructing a wall on the American southern border
near Texas and Mexico would reduce the passage of illegal immigrants, the cost of this wall would
outweigh the benefits of its erection.
The first of many problems that arise with the construction of this wall is that there are

Levi Jordan Plantation Essay
The Plantation
The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because
of mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins,
rings, bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal
bones, wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to
the hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake
clay and for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet
molds, metal tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there
were children there. The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and
it s much harder to hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make
the bullets the right shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on
the plantation led people to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting.

On the Levi Jordan Plantation ceramic shards have been found next to what is thought to be a
hearth or fireplace. Some of the clay was in the form of one bowl, several ceramic plates and

scattered around it. Blacksmiths will sometimes make pots, but most of the time they used iron or
aluminum. Pots are made from clay, which can be found anywhere near a river. Then the clay is
fired, to dry it after it has been shaped (most of the time by hand, but in modern times on a pottery
wheel). A couple of countries who were the first to make clay pots were, Czech Republic, Japan,
and China. Clay was a very important resource used for decoration, storage, and

Effects Of The Domino Theory On The Vietnam War
he Vietnam War was an extension of Cold War An Ideological conflict between Capitalism and
Communism (1965 1975)The US joined the war to stop the spreading of Communism( didn t want
Russia to gain more allies as they had in Cold War) , under the Domino effect theory (first
developed under the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower) applying this theory to South East Asia it
argued that if South Vietnam was taken by communists, then the other countries in the region such
as Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia and Indonesia, would follow. The United States of
America s intention to stop the domino effect in Vietnam failed as in 1975 North Vietnamese forces
marched into Saigon. However communism itself did not spread throughout the rest of South east
Asia.
After World War 1 the United States of America established itself as a formidable opponent and a
world power, World War 2 confirmed the superiority of the United States military and the
unstoppable patriotism of its people, Cold War showed that the government could negotiate
peacefully instead of directly waging yet another conflict. The main problem that led to the Vietnam
War and the United states of America s failure to stop the domino effect in Vietnam was the United
States of America s solutions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard Nixon accepted the Domino Theory , however, because of civil unrest in the U.S and the
defeat in Vietnam the Domino Theory was largely discredited. Nixon announced the removal
United States troops. His planned was called Vietnamization which would bring peace with honour.
It was designed to turn over the responsibility of war to South Vietnam. The U.S. would strengthen
the South Vietnam army so they could fight without direct help from the U.S. This would allow
American troops to gradually come home. Vietnamization would also set up a self sufficient South
Vietnam government. Nixon s initiatives showed U.S. action in a positive way and focused on

Selfishness in Wuthering Heights
Through self centered and narcissistic characters, Emily Bronte s classic novel, Wuthering
Heights illustrates a deliberate and poetic understanding of what greed is. Encouraged by love,
fear, and revenge, Catherine Earnshaw, Heathcliff, and Linton Heathcliff all commit a sin called
selfishness. Catherine Earnshaw appears to be a woman who is free spirited. However,
Catherine is also quite self centered. She clearly states that her love for Edgar Linton does not
match how much she loves Heathcliff. She is saying that she does love both, and she is unwilling
to give one up for the other; she wants Heathcliff for her friend . Catherine admits that her love for
Linton is like the foliage in the woods ; however, her love for... Show more content on

For self revenge, Heathcliff decided to punish the next generation for the evil deed of a father.
Unfortunately for Heathcliff, the love that is his life suddenly died, causing more anguish and
wrath to bubble and erupt. After Catherine died, Heathcliff beseeched her to stay with him and
haunt him. He is a self centered human being, and desires Catherine to be with him even after
death. Edgar on the other hand didn t beg for Catherine to haunt him, for he was looking forward
to their time together in the afterlife. This proves Heathcliff s selfishness to needing Catherine with
him, and also confirms the fact that Edgar is the one that would unconditionally love Catherine
forever. Heathcliff selfishly only wanted Catherine for himself, he visited Catherine s coffin and
removed the blond lock of hair which belongs to Edgar and threw it to the floor, then taking his
own and placing it in. Another one of the many things Heathcliff wanted was power. He seduced
and married Isabella Linton, not out of love, but out of selfish thoughts of abusing her to get
revenge against her brother, Edgar because he married Heathcliff s lover. When Isabella died,
Heathcliff s son Linton was handed over to him; Heathcliff forced Linton to marry Edgar and
Catherine s daughter, Catherine or Cathy Linton. When Ellen found letters written between the two,
Linton s letters rendered natural,

Arsenic Pollution And Arsenic Contamination
a.Inorganic arsenic is highly toxic and a significant public health threat throughout the world. Long
term exposure to arsenic through contaminated water can lead to arsenic poisoning and a variety of
adverse health effects, including skin lesions, cancer, and respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.
However, arsenic is highly abundant in the Earth s crust and is naturally present across the world in
the air, water, and soil. Arsenic integrates into the environment with natural processes including
weathering reactions and volcanic activity, and through anthropogenic processes such as mining,
fossil fuel combustion, and utilization of pesticides.
b.Although arsenic is found throughout the environment, epidemiological studies have ... Show

In this region, high arsenic concentrations are mostly due to the volcanic activity in the Andes
Mountains. Mining is also widespread in the region, and copper smelting specifically emits arsenic
into the atmosphere. It is difficult to measure mining s impact on arsenic water contamination
because baseline natural levels were not established in the area. Overall, however, arsenic released
from mining processes settles mainly in the atmosphere, and studies have shown that drinking water
serves as the primary path of exposure of arsenic for humans, making the naturally occurring arsenic
in the groundwater a greater threat to human health in Antofagasta. ii. The Antofagasta Regionhas
an extremely arid climate and low rates of precipitation, which greatly limit water availability and
further exacerbate the effects of the natural arsenic contamination. The Loa River and its
tributaries of San Pedro, Salado, and San Salvador are the only surface water sources, but this
river is very saline and home to a range of arsenic levels. These arsenic levels naturally fluctuate
due to its natural volcanic and geothermal origins, but generally, all the concentrations are above
safe set limits for human consumption as set by the World Health Organization at 10 ug/L.

TRADER JOE S
Description:
Trader Joe s has become a multi billion dollar national chain partly through its ability to find cheap
real estate, skip name brands and smartly manage its supply chain. It s also due to its workforce
management practices. Below, excerpts from a book Trader Joe s Adventure, review the company s
management compensation, encouragement of multitasking, screening and wages, careful use of
money, fun culture, sense that its people are its brand, and communication style.
Learning Objective:

Without question, all of these things are an essential part of what makes Trader Joe s such a
thriving retailer when much larger chains are struggling to survive. But there s a saying in retail
circles that the last 100 feet are the hardest. Every effort can be made to heighten the efficiency
of the supply chain and get products from the manufacturer to the retailer s back door in the
most cost effective way possible. Yet, if in store execution is shoddy, retailers simply end up
shooting themselves in the foot. A big part of this execution or the last 100 feet at Trader Joe s is
its employees, people who like what they do, go out of their way to help customers, and even
engage in some suggestive selling. They are a major reason for the company s success. After all,
few employers particularly in retailing can boast of having such high levels of employee loyalty, not
to mention extremely low turnover.
Compensate workers well The core of this allegiance is a wage and benefits package that is
typically far more competitive than that of most companies in the supermarket industry. Wages may
attract high quality employees, but wages are not necessarily the reason they remain loyal, as any
human resources expert can attest. Employees stay because Trader Joe s has created a culture of

Chemical Compounds And Its Effects On The Environment
Veiga Baker established that the main pathways of Hg to humans living in close proximity to
ASGM sites are the inhalation of Hg vapor from amalgam burning and gold melting, and the
ingestion of methyl mercury from dietary sources, especially fish. 3 Additionally, according to
Bank, the chemical forms by which people are exposed to mercury are: Inorganic compounds (Hg
combined with chloride, hydroxide, sulfide, dissolved organic matter (DOM); or other noncarbon
species) Elemental (or metallic) mercury, and Organic compounds (Hg combined with methyl,
ethyl, or other carbon species).9 It seems that the risk of contamination by mercury through water
consumption is very low according to Veiga and Baker. These authors claim that because the
stability and brief residence time of MeHg in aquatic systems (MeHg is readily consumed by
microorganisms at the base of the food chain), its concentration in natural ecosystems is extremely
low. Even further, they say, if people are drinking unfiltered water full of suspended particles, it
seems that Hg is the least health problem related to this. 3 Bank, as well as many other authors,
agrees that the major impact on human health is due to inhalation of vapor mercury and MeHg
intake through fish.9 However, this author states that mercury toxicity on human health depends on
different factors such as the route of exposure, the dose consumed, and the age of the person.
Additionally, citing other authors, Bank claims that,

Class Conflict, By George Orwell And Mockingjay, And Joon...
Class conflict is a recurring theme in many popular apocalyptic and dystopian works. Whether a
conflict with the state or with other classes, class conflict is the driving force for many works in
this genre. This is evident through the depiction of power hungry classes inclination to control
others in favor of society wide improvement. The type of class conflict seen in these works is
present in our world today. Events such as the Ferguson protests and the Occupy Wall Street
movement have precipitated violence and struggle of the oppressed at the hands of powerful and
inherently evil forces. While class conflict is a resounding theme among numerous popular
apocalyptic and dystopian works, I believe it is best portrayed in Orwell s 1984, Collins
Mockingjay, and Joon ho s Snowpiercer. Not only do these works present the different forms of
class conflict that take place in apocalyptic and dystopian settings, but they also help define the
cultural significance of class conflict seen in our society. In 1984, a class conflict exists between the
majority of the undermined population and the state. The society is divided into three distinct
classes: the proles, who represent the working class proletariat, the Outer Party, which consist of the
middle classof Oceania, and the Inner Party, which regulates the Ministries, Thought Police, and

growing at a prolific rate. This is due to easy access of programs, like Final Cut, Premiere Pro,
and iMovie, that allow basically anyone to make their own video or movie. Some say that this
ability to produce movies easier than ever before poses a threat to the integrity of the movie

Soundcloud is a relatively new music streaming site that enables up and coming rappers to
easily release their content to a large audience. Many rappers, now referred to as soundcloud
rappers, use this site to increase their chances of stardom in an otherwise competitive enterprise.
Artists such as Lil Yachty, XXX Tentacion, Lil Pump, Lil Uzi Vert, and Jay Critch, all became
famous by utilizing the streaming sites fan base to gain followers. This rise in Soundcloud
rappers created a subgenre of hip hop music, known as soundcloud rap, without degrading the
integrity of hip hop. While this subgenre has increased in popularity in the past year significantly,
artists that represent the gems of hip hop, like Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, J Cole, Jay Z, and
Schoolboy Q, all still play a major role in mainstream hip hop, maintaining the fundamentals of
genre. In addition, many of these notably artist of the hip hop industry use their celebrity status to

  • 2. Ageism In The Workplace Imagine being an older aged person going into an interview. You go through the entire interview and kill it, nothing went wrong, and the interviewer even says the job is basically yours. When leaving the interview, a younger kid walks in. The following day, you find out that you were declined, and that the other applicant that walked in after got the job. Later, you find out that you and that younger kid had the same qualifications. This is what happens when people experience age discrimination. People don t understand how ageismcan go from harming one person, all the way to an entire business. Discriminating against age is still happening all around and many people don t know it s happening. More action needs to be taken in order to really... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When people first consider this reason, it makes sense at first. Older youngers are more fragile and can t do as much physically and technologically like young people can. Andrew Mayfair says, Your business may lose the potential to mold and keep a valuable employee for years to come (Mayfair). Andrew Mayfair points out in his article, The Consequences of Age Discrimination at Work , how businesses believe that getting rid of older employees who can t do as much as younger employees is helping the company. Mayfair then explains how older employees, with their extensive knowledge, are the molds for the younger employees. Instead of letting a younger employee slowly gain a vast amount of knowledge, the older employees already possess this and can pass it down to the new and inexperienced employees. Businesses who will discriminate against people of older age have the misconception that they are helping their business by getting rid of older employees. Little do they realize, these discriminatory practices are causing the adolescent employees to be substantially held back due to their little knowledge of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal World View Nicole Whaley PHI 103 August 7, 2011 Richard Irvin Personal Worldview: Initial Statement I believe we as human beings have distinguishing characteristic that we passed down to one another since the beginning of time. Things such as the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we act. It s what we use to provide what we receive as normal when we are judging how best to live amongst our peers and as individuals. Human Nature is the tool we have used since the first human being was crated and placed upon this earth. It is the tool we are all born with that directs us in the decisions we make whether they are wise decisions or bad choices. Human nature is who we are as a species. Human nature is why today s society is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So basically everything is left up to the individual. This was a bit much for me to grasp or even try understanding. I am a Christian and stand firm in my belief in God and what awaits me in the afterlife. I know and trust in the bible when it tells me that I will be held accountable for all that I do that is immoral and sinful. My only salvation is to pray for forgiveness and repent. I believe that when I meet my maker I will be fully aware of what is going on and although my body, the keeper of my soul, will be no more: I will. I do not believe that I will become a part of nature or this force that pantheists speak about. I know that I am not God. I am a product of God made in his image. I found the New Age Movement to be a very interesting worldview. At times it had me scratching my chin at the different concepts that they boast to be true. In the end and with further research I realize that they too fall short of Christianity. There is just no way the world will be able to run without any guidance and if we could govern ourselves then we would all be living in a state of peace right now. Unfortunately we are not and it is because the world has laid down their bibles and picked up pamphlets of other hogwash that has blinded them to the way of the bible. There is only one true God and way to salvation. I continue to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and God the creator. With all the worldviews I have come in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Refugees The issue of refugees heated up when President Donald Trump became president. He is totally against of letting refugees into the United States. As most people who aren t refugees don t really care what he does, but people who are refugees would have a different story. The UN has never really had any issues towards refugees until Donald Trump had became president. The growth of refugees has increased because of war, being discarded from the country, or not following the right religion. Historically we have let many refugees come into our country in the past. According to The Washington Post, global displacement levels declined to a historic low in 2005 but started escalating again because of a series of conflicts, including the U.S. invasion of Iraq. By mid 2015, the total number of refugees and internally displaced people had climbed to an all time high of more than 60 million people, the UNHCR estimates reflecting both the masses of people newly uprooted from war torn regions of Syria and South Sudan, as well as those displaced years ago from places like Pakistan and Afghanistan who still haven t been able to return home. So throughout the history, many refugees have been fleeing their countries but letting refugees into the United States, it could cause a lot of problems like it would cost the UN more money, there are billions of refugees why not help them all, and there could be terrorist in the group. What this evidence suggests is that this is a very significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It started off as a Joint stock company. • 6. The Importance Of Being A Photographer By Photographer Anyone can be a photographer, as long as you zoom in on what you love. There was a girl who found a liking to photography because she enjoyed capturing the essence of nature and art. She loved being able to capture the uniqueness of objects living or not because there are so many things people should get to see as well as think about how the picture can make that person feel. Seeing a picture of a rainforest with beautiful trees and glittering water could make someone feel relaxed, they can also develop an imagination in pictures like this. And that is why she wishes to be a Photographer. The important thing about being a photographer is that there are certain techniques and equipment in this career. When someone takes a picture, someone is able to put it on a computer and edit it. An individual is able to put in color corrections, and other specialized effects. • 7. The Negative Stereotypes Of African Americans others (f) Black people have been known to be able to do incredible things from themselves and others. They are able to turn nothing into something and use it for the greater good of their own communities. Since the Great Renaissance and the inception of the Black Wall Street, African Americans were a force to American society. Through the Black Wall Street, with their own money, Blacks were able to open up jobs and business that would recreate and maintain the socioeconomic flow within their own communities. Businesses, shops, banks, and health care facilities came out of the Black Wall Street. Since its destruction in 1921, African Americans and their sense of having something that they can call their own has not been revitalized. Till this day, Blacks rely on their white counterparts to fulfill their needs in day to day living. There are a few ways that African Americans can give to themselves, which will continue to give throughout the year. In return, this will make them (as a people) stronger, more unified, and powerful than ever before. One important thing that African Americans can do to change their outlook and perception of life is to stop feeding into the negative stereotypes placed upon them. Through various forms of entertainment and art, Blacks have failed short of sustaining their dignity by buying into these stereotypical roles that are used as forms of entertainment to their fellow man. • 8. Wild Cat Falling Belonging Analysis How are Australian identity and culture represented in the texts you have studied? While some texts choose to represent the Australian landscape as being harsh and untamed, others appear to present them in a more positive fashion. However, when we get to the heart of each text, it s context and purpose we find a common theme of connection with the land within them. In this analysis I will be using Wild Cat Falling by Mudrooroo, My Country by Dorothea Mackellar and The Drovers Wife by Henry Lawson. This sentance uses emotive language of hopelessness and disconnection to get the reader to respond on an emotional level and the readers emotional response from that positions them to share the writers viewpoint. This technique is used in this text to convey the sense of rejection of his traditional connection to the landscape that he refuses to believe that he has. The effect on the audience is that we feel a strange disconnection with the Australian landscape and a feeling that we don t belong. On page 30 the main character quotes on clear nights I could see the water alight under the space travelling moon and I would feel detached from life . This statement is used to show that the main character has this feeling of detachment with his traditional homeland. But the first Chromecast s successful design and sales meant two very important points for the new Chromecast. • 10. Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate Sexist Capitalism Marxist Feminism Efforts to Eradicate sexist Capitalism: The emergence of Stay at Home Dads and The Providing Woman Introduction: Marxist feminism is a sub category of the larger feminist theory; this kind of feminism is primarily attentive to explaining how women are oppressed through capitalist systems and the emergence of the concept of private property. According to Marxist feminists, women s true emancipation, all over the world, can only be achieved through a fundamental reorganization of the capitalist economy that does not fairly compensate women s labor. Additionally, Marxist feminists do criticize Marx for what they think was his partial analysis of sexism under capitalism and total indifference to gender imbalance. However, they do not dismiss the basic Marxist fundamentals. Theoretical and Historical Backgrounds: In its early days, the Women s Liberation Movement, four main currents of feminism were identified : Liberal feminism, which is mainly concerned with solving all social problems to fight ignorance and social restraints on freedom of choice for everyone, not just woman. Radical feminism which focuses on male patriarchy as the main cause of the oppression of women. Socialist feminism which believes in a dual system, indeed it focuses on both the public and private spheres and claims that woman freedom can only be achieved by working to end economic and cultural foundations of women s domination. Marxist feminism, on the other hand is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Sonny s Blues And The Fire Next Time James Baldwin s works, both Sonny s Blues and The Fire Next Time, weave the themes of black identity, family , and religion more elegantly than I have ever witnessed by any other writer. When reading The Fire Next Time readers witness the disharmony and miscommunication that wedges itself between a father and son. Baldwin, a teenager at the time, acts as many teenagers do, hoping to find various ways to spite his father first by joining a church and becoming saved, but not his father s church; then by insulting his father s beliefs and rules by inviting a non christian into the familyhome, although he already anticipates his father s reaction to such an act; and finally by joining the pulpit, although he is not a true believer. • 12. Social Exchange Theory And Domestic Violence Essay When sociologists set out to do their research and theorize what they had found at the end of their research project, they often find that the methodologies that they use to research and theorize are relatively similar. Such is the case for the social exchange theory and feminist approach to studying domestic violence. Sabatelli (1993) explained the central premise of the social exchangetheory as to see social relationships as extended markets in which each individual act out of self interest with the goal of maximizing profits (p.385). On the other hand, Menon (2009) states that a feminist methodology or approach to researching and theorizing about domestic violence to be a process that engages in an epistemology that transcends the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is, individuals should only stay in a relationship if they feel that they are better off staying rather than leaving. However, the feminist approach may be less subjective towards seeing victims of domestic violence as having that power and ability to leave, even if they wanted to. The feminist methodology takes on a more realistic approach to understanding the difficulties that women may have leaving, even if they willfully wanted to leave. On the other hand, the social exchange theory is more idealistic in that it sees every individual as having the same amount of agency in deciding whether or not they would want to stay in a relationship, filtering out the issues that might be holding victims of domestic violence back from leaving their abusive partners. Nevertheless, the potential policy implications from both approaches could be similar in that they emphasize on equality in relationships. Therefore, both would be inclined to allow more agency and freedom to individuals in a abusive relationship to leave their partners through providing financial resources and other counselling services to help them cope with their ... The Things They Carried’ by Tim O’Brien Essay The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien provides a insider s view of war and its distractions, both externally in dealing with combat and internally dealing with the reality of war and its effect on each solder. The story, while set in Vietnam, is as relevant today with the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan as it was in the 1960 s and 1970 s in Southeast Asia. With over one million soldiers having completed anywhere from one to three tours in combat in the last 10 years, the real conflict might just be inside the soldier. • 34. Essay on Parkinson Disease (PD) Introduction Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized mainly by physical and psychological disabilities. This disorder was named after James Parkinson, an English physician who first described it as shaking palsy in 1817 (Goetz, Factr, and Weiner, 2002). Jean Martin Charcot, who was a French neurologist, then progressed and further refined the description of the disease and identified other clinical features of PD (Goetz, Factr, and Weiner, 2002). PD involves the loss of cells that produce the neurotransmitter dopamine in a part of the brain stem called the substansia nigra, which results in several signs and symptoms (Byrd, Marks, and Starr, 2000). It is manifested clinically by tremor, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although many theories and hypotheses were raised as to why this happens, there is no solid information supporting the physiological cause of this, but it is surely one of various factors that may lead to the development of PD. Neuroanatomy of the Basal Ganglia It has been known that PD is a disorder affecting the basal ganglia. The term basal ganglia is generally applied to a collection of nuclei situated deep within the cerebral hemispheres, lying laterally to the thalamus (Gazzeniga, George, and Mangun, 2008). The basal ganglia are important subcortical structures. They are composed of five nuclei: caudate, putamen, globus pallidus, subthalamic nucleus, and substantia nigra. These nuclei are not thought of a single anatomical entity; rather, they form a functional unity whose contribution is greatly to motor control. Interestingly, this system does not influence movement through spinal cord pathways, but rather acts as part of a feedback loop to all areas of the cerebral cortex, with primary input into motor areas (Aird, 2000). A number of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters are what control this whole process, and a balance of both is required to ensure that smooth, purposeful movement takes place. In order to understand the pathways of which the basal ganglia take part in, it is essential to know the input and output connections of the basal ganglia. The input ... Will it be the brute force, boot and gun approach of Orwell s dystopia or the all loving, drug accepting society that Huxley illustrates? If you take a closer look, a mix of both dystopias is quite apparent in our society today; we are living in our own modern, advanced and constantly developing dystopia. The topics discussed in these two novels cover a variety of subjects, sex, drugs, freedom, religion and beliefs, and life in general. Both have their own idea of what outcome these topics will take in their most dire form. In this paper I will be comparing and contrasting their differences and then comparing them to our world today in an effort to see which direction our society is headed. The topic of sex in these two novels is depicted in very different ways. In 1984, sex and intimate relationships are taboo. Big Brother thinks that a relationship with intimacy between two individuals may cause them to unite together and could possible lead to the questioning of Big Brother, which is unacceptable and potentially dangerous. The Berlin Wall was according to Rosenberg a physical division between West Berlin and East Germany in order to keep East Germans from fleeing to the West (Rosenberg). History always seems to repeat itself because even in modern times the usage of a wallto keep people from moving in large number is still viable. Nonetheless, like the Berlin wall and the Great Wall of Chinabefore that, wallsare just that walls and unfortunately they are not enough to keep individuals from getting to the other side. With this in mind, it is easy to write off the wall and guess at a rough estimate with dollars in mind but what is more important than money is how this wall would impact the surrounding areas where the wall itself is to be constructed. Not only that but if such a wall is to be built it will also have an everlasting impact on the local economies near the site. Even further, they say, if people are drinking unfiltered water full of suspended particles, it seems that Hg is the least health problem related to this. 3 Bank, as well as many other authors, agrees that the major impact on human health is due to inhalation of vapor mercury and MeHg intake through fish.9 However, this author states that mercury toxicity on human health depends on different factors such as the route of exposure, the dose consumed, and the age of the person. Whether a conflict with the state or with other classes, class conflict is the driving force for many works in this genre. The type of class conflict seen in these works is present in our world today. Events such as the Ferguson protests and the Occupy Wall Street movement have precipitated violence and struggle of the oppressed at the hands of powerful and inherently evil forces.
