Alexander The Great Persuasive Essay
These are examples of how Alexander strived to complete his objectives by spilling as little
blood as possible. However, not all cities were willing to surrender to Alexander. Some, such as
Tyre and Gaza, chose to fight to the last. Alexander knew that he had to take these cities so he
chose to turn their refusal to surrender and the time that they forestalled his armies into some
benefit. Both the cities of Tyre and Gaza were massacred brutally after refusing Alexander s
terms of surrender. While these sieges costed him both time and men, Alexander used these
massacres as a weapon of terror against his enemy. Through his actions he was able to show that
a speedy surrender to his forces was the preferable option to resistance, and likely reduced the
time and casualties that would have been sustained by a long series of continuous sieges.
However, Alexander was also extremely fortunate to follow up on his success in battle with great
rewards. After the battle of Issus, Alexander was able to seize the Persian treasury which was
being stored in Damascus. The seizing of your enemy s material wealth is of utmost importance in
conducting warfare and perfectly reflected Alexander s strategic objectives. It prevented Darius

His Coup D Е“il in battle gained him great victories on the Granicus and at Issus. He was then
able to aptly transition these victories into his campaign objectives which supported his clear
goal of conquering all of Persia with as little bloodshed as possible. He won decisive victories at
key points to ensure that he would be able to operate his sieges against the Persian cities that were
hesitant to surrender to him. Simply put, Alexander, one of history s greatest military geniuses,
utilized all the aspects of his Kingdom to wage a highly effective war against the Persian King
Darius that eventually resulted in the creation of one of the largest empire s in

Manipulation In The Lycaon Tale
In the second century B.C. A Greek geographer called Pausanias, tells of a man, called Lycaon

The philosopher Voltaire stated Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit
atrocities. Consequently, since their conception, these words have rung true over the centuries in
conjunction with titles such as Witches, or Werewolf, and Jew.

Gun Hill Street Essay
The Bronx has been changing over the years as realtors and big corporations set foot in New
York City. The Bronx has always been seen as a bad borough because of history of crime rate,
poverty, and aggressiveness towards other people in the past, but it has slowly been shifting
towards a positive change. Gun Hill Road was one of the neighborhoods in the Bronx that was
usually known as a ghetto area. This is because of the infamous reputation of the projects and areas
around them having higher than usual crimerates. Gun Hill Road/White Plains has had a rough
past for a long time, but over time it has actually been improving a lot. Not too long ago there was
a shooting that involved gang members fighting over turf, but NYTimes reports that It is not a

deadly family squabbles and turf battles between local... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

St. Therese Of Lisieux s Saturday Evening Mass
On September the 10th, I visited St. Therese of Lisieux s Saturday evening mass. Before
attending this mass, this summer I had the opportunity to attend a Catholic Mass during a trip
California. Because of this previous experience and the reading detailing the meaning behind
each part of Mass, I was able to more clearly understand the workings of the service. Additionally,
with regards to the Erickson essay, I learned how to differentiate between Catholic mass and
Zwinglian view of the Lord s supper. When attending Mass at St Therese, I witnessed hundreds
of years of tradition transpire via the saintly icons, the reading of the Old and New Testament text,
the papal prayer, and beautifully somber hymns for glorification of Christ. Immediately, I was
impressed by the congregation s knowledge of the routine structure of the service. Before sitting,
congregation members kneeled and made the sign of the cross on one s self. Furthermore, I was
surprised that the church goers knew the songs by heart without referring to hymnal or having a
projection screen with the words displayed. My favorite part of the mass was when the lead male
sang a song that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fullness of Christ. The church decided to partake in communion on a Sunday in order for the
Congregation to have a time to deeply reflect on the Lord and give him thanks for his sacrifice for
us. To conclude, the value and administration was not rigidly detailed, but easily prescribed in

The Biased American Dream By James Truslow Adam
The Biased American Dream The American Dream is a commonly known theme among the
general population today. It states that with the right amount of work any US citizen can obtain
success in their lives. This idea was popularized around 1930 with James Truslow Adam s book
The Epic of America bringing about the idea that there is opportunity for everyone in America if
they can work hard enough.3 This idea of the American dream however began much earlier than
the 20th century. Rather it began in the west in the 1800s as US citizens gained the ability to cross
the frontier and begin completely new lives, whether those lives became advantageous or not.
According to the American Dream the western settler s level of work, not race or gender, would
determine whether or not he or she became successful. However this was not the case. The
American Dream of the 19th century is disparate from the one known today. Unlike Adam s
American Dream of the 1930s, this western American Dream was heavily skewed towards white
male, US citizen obtainment. This was because the main drive of the western frontier was for white
male US citizens to profit from the newly obtained land and keep it for themselves thus fulfilling
their new American Dream. In the mid19th century, economic opportunities existed in the Western
Frontier of America, allowing people to go and accomplish their dreams if they had the motivation,
but those opportunities were prohibitive for women, nonwhites, or non US

What Is The Monomyth In Captain America
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an amazing sequel to the first Captain America movie.
This movie follows some stages of Joseph Campbell s monomyth theory and heres a few. The
first stage is the call to adventure . Captain America is actually called to complete missions a
couple of times in the movie. First he is called by S.H.I.E.L.D. to save hostages from a boat that
is full of hydra members. Also known as nazi s. The second time he is called is when an assassin
that goes by the name the Winter Soldier shoots his boss down right in front of him. Before Fury
(his boss) dies he tells cap that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been compromised by hydra and that he must do
whatever he can to get rid of the hydra agents. Another stage of the monomyth theory is the
supernatural aid. In the movie Captain Americasecretly receives something from Fury while being

The next stage of the monomyth theory is the atonement with the father. Captain America faces
off with the Winter Soldier. After fighting each other for a while cap knocks the Winter Soldier s
mask off. He realizes it s his dead best friend Bucky. Now that he knows this, cap doesn t try to
kill him anymore, he tries and persuades Bucky while there still fighting to try and remember
him but it doesn t work. So he knocks him out and defeats him. The second last stage is the
ultimate boon. Captain America achieves the goal of his battle. He got rid of all the hydra agents
in S.H.I.E.L.D. He also defeated the Winter Soldier. The final stage of the monomyth theory is the
freedom to live. After cap defeats Bucky and clears his name he is a free man. He chooses to

The Life of Isaac Newton
Throughout the span of Isaac Newton s life time, he accomplished, dreamed, and achieved what
others thought were impossible. He was a curious man, with a passion to learn and discover the
undiscovered. Newton uncovered scientific answers that lead the way to influential discoveries in
motion and mathematics, optics, and also physics. He was not only an educated physicist and
mathematician, but experienced and established in his frame of study. To say Newton was just a
scientist would be an understatement, he was one of the great minds of the 17th century Scientific
Revolution (Source 3). Isaac Newtonwas born in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England on January
4, 1643. He was born as a premature baby and no one expected him to live. Newton s father
passed away three months before he was born. When Sir Newton was only three years old, his
mother, Hannah Newton, abandon her son and ran off to marry her second husband. Newton was
left to be raised by his maternal grandmother. One thoughtless action of his mother, manifested into
a sense of abandonment, irrational behavior, and also and insecurity issues for this young boy.
When Newton was twelve years old, his mother returned with three step children, after her second
husband died. She pulled Newton out of school, for she wanted him to practice farming, thinking
he could make a fine career out of it. Poor Newton hated farming and found it as such a tedious
task. His mother soon enrolled him back into school to

The Five Causes Of Invasive Species
Invasive Species Invasive species are one of the 5 causes of the inevitable 6th extinction. An
invasive species is any kind of plant, animal, fungi, or bacteria that is not endemic to a region
but, when introduced, can spread quickly and cause destruction to that region. Primarily due
human activities, these species are spread by sea, air, and other ways. Sometimes these species
are purposely brought to an area as a means of pesticide or other uses, but others can be
introduced accidentally. When an new species is introduced to an ecosystem, it can destroy
wildlife because organisms may not be evolved to defend against such invaders. On December
26, 2013, in a small village in Guinea, a anomalous disease began spreading. An 18 month old
boy fell victim to the illness characterized by fever, black stools, and vomiting and would soon
die from it. The boy is said to have contracted the disease from infected bats that were closer to
human settlements due to deforestation. By January 2014, several members of the boy s family
and those who had helped them had developed similar symptoms resulting in death. Soon after, the
disease had spread to those who had attended funerals or took care of ill relatives causing this
pattern of exposure continued. An alert on January 24th was raised when the head of the Meliandou
health post informed district health officials of cases of severe diarrhoea with a fatal outcome. An
investigation was setup where a team of health officials found what

The Fall Of The Roman Empire
Historiographic Paper: The End of Antiquity The Fall of Rome HIST534 A001 Sum 15
American Military University David Provencher (ID# 4358187) July 30, 2015 The fall of the
Roman Empire is one of the most discussed and debated events in ancient history. Many
historians site the date of 476 A. D. as the day the empire ended, but there are also many that say
that the 476 A.D. date is subjective because it took many years of internal problems and neglect
for the empire to come to an end. Even from the beginning of the Empire under Augustine Caesar
many predicted that Rome wouldn t last because of the decadent lifestyle of its citizens. Today
this view is still popular but many historians have been searching for other reasons to help
explain the collapse of one of the world s greatest empires. The many different views of how the
empire fell range from political incompetence, religious extremism, financial or environmental.
The fact that no one has offered up a solution that all historians can agree with is simply because
of the lack of overwhelming evidence to point to a cause. Another issue is that many historians are
looking at the situation through present day eyes, they are looking at the fall of Rome and trying
to find reasons that would be relevant to our present day society, not a society that existed
thousands of years ago. There are so many reasons that range from the possible to the ridiculous,
like the barbarian invasion to lead poisoning, but many

The Purpose Of The Naturalization Process
The naturalization process for an individual starts when that individual wishes to become an
American citizen. After an interest has been established, the individual can then start with the
naturalization process. The person I interviewed said that she wanted the convenience of
traveling without a visa. After she completed the required tests and was given her certificate of
citizenship she became an official citizen. The purpose of the naturalization process is to admit
people to the status of an American citizen. This is done through series of examinations and a fee
to see if the individual is eligible to become a citizen. One check done before being admitted was
seeing if the applicant had good moral character. Eligibility for being a citizen

Stepper Motors
1. Introduction
This is the first in a series of articles on using Forth to interact with the real world. We will
explore how to control motors of various types (such as servomotors and stepper motors), switch
power to devices, and sense the environment. Each article will present a project that can be used to
demonstrate the ideas we are going to discuss.
In this first article, I want to lay the foundation for the future columns and discuss the use of the PC
parallel port to control stepper motors. We will adopt the fantasy that we are working on some
microprocessor based control application and will be using the PC parallel port as a proxy for the
digital I/O channels on our controller. To the extent possible, the code will be... Show more content

The control is relative, meaning that there is no way to determine the shaft position directly. You
can only command the motor to rotate a certain amount clockwise or counter clockwise from its
current position. These commands consist of energizing the various motor coils in a particular
sequence of patterns. Each pattern causes the motor to move one step. Smooth motion results from
presenting the patterns in the proper order.
Features that stepper motors provide include:
* Excellent rotational accuracy * Large torque * Small size * Work well over a range of speeds *
Can be used for motion or position control
There are two types of stepper motors:
* Bipolar motors, with two coils. These have four wires on them (see Figure One a). They are
tricky to control because they require changing the direction of the current flow through the coils
in the proper sequence. We will discuss these motors further when we get to the topic of DC
motor control. * Unipolar motors, with two center tapped coils which can be treated as four coils
(see Figure One b). These have six or eight (or sometimes five) wires, and can be controlled from a
microprocessor with little more than four transistors (see Figure Two).
Figure One. (a) The internal arrangement of the coils for a bipolar stepper motor. (b) The internal

Co Supervisor: ______________ Date: _________ EXECUTIVE SUMMARY.
Shoulder impingement syndrome is a progressively worsening condition in many individuals. The
use of a chiropractic adjustment or myofascial dry needling as forms of treatment are both yet to
be differentiated as to which is more beneficial (Fitness Pain Free. 2016).
The aim of this study is to research the effect of a chiropractic adjustment on the shoulder and the
cervical spine, and compare to dry needling of the shoulder and cervical musculature.
The research study will include three separate groups that will receive chiropractic adjustments, dry
needling or a combination of the two treatments. The results will then be evaluated and an outcome
will be based on these results as to which treatment is more effective.

and the scorching heat of the sun searing upon your face because there s no shade. And when you

activities. What s wrong with this picture? It s not possible, of course. Even though plants aren t the

Based upon the same experiments and samples taken, it was concluded that the atmospheric
nitrogen pollution was caused by the burning of fossil fuels and rigorous agriculture
(Ananthaswamy, 2004).
According to the 2004 release of the Threatened and Endangered Species System (TESS)
information, there are 599 endangered plants and 147 threatened plants in the US alone (TESS,
2004). These listings rely on a very stern legal system. Whether they can be labeled rare ,
threatened, or endangered , it is determined by the measure of endangerment the species sustain.
An endangered type is one that is in jeopardy of extinction throughout all or a major fraction of its
range. A threatened species is one that is likely to become in danger of extinction in the future
(UFWS, 2004).
Ways for prevention of plant dissolution/ rewards
Here in DeKalb County, we have several different threatened plant species. They are: Bay star
Vine, Flatrock Onion, Granite Rock Stonecrop, Indian Olive, Piedmont Barren Strawberry, and the

There are over 542 discrete approved ecosystem recovery plans. Some plans cover more than one
species while a few have different plans covering various parts of their ranges (TESS, 2004). One

The Role of a Journalist
Role of Journalist Australian writer/journalist Karl Karus said it best when he said, corruption is
worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual, the former
invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. For decades, the United States has been one
the most notable countries to come under fire with reports of government corruption. During the
dawn of the new millennium the Transparency Corruption began to publish their Corruption
Perceptions Index (CPI), a culmination of assessments and opinion surveys by experts which rank
countries based on their perceived corruption. In 2012, the U.S ranked 19 out of 174 countries. Its
often questioned how this report would vary had it been published decades before when whistle
blowers and journalist were striving to shed light onto government corruption in the 50s , 60s, and
70s. Throughout the history of the United States its been the responsibility of journalist and whistle
blowers to report dishonesty and injustice created by those in power. In a letter to Virginia
statesman Edward Carrington, President Thomas Jefferson shared his views on the press and
government. The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object
should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government
without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer
the latter. Its been this

What s Black Then White And Said All Over Summary
Slang has been around for centuries; everyone, no matter his or her race or ethnicity uses it, but
it is more comely used by African Americans. In What s Black, Then White, and Said All Over,
Leslie Savan talks about covert prestige and how black inspired language is used around the
mainstream, not only in pop music but also in marketing methods. Helen Epstein in her essay
AIDS, Inc., talked about the different advertising methods the people in Africa used to try to
lower the AIDS rate. Both essays touch the topic of advertising but Savan s paper was mainly
focused on the impact that black talk had on the mainstream, marketing, and convert prestige.
Most of us talk and all of us have heard or been exposed to slang or black talk on social media, at
school, the mall or any social event. According to Leslie Savan Black Slang can t describe black

Introduction
The aim of this essay is to bring together modern day thoughts and concepts on the hyper real and
the simulated (simulacra). How these terms and themes offer fuel and conjecture to certain
conspiracy theories: concepts that bring focus, differing interpretations, and relevance into my art
practice. It can be said that the definition of a conspiracy theory is common knowledge; however,
for this essay, this is the definition in layman s terms: conspiracy theory refers to a narrative ... Show

For example, one of the amazing characteristics of holograms is that every part of a hologram is
a smaller version of the whole. Or put another way, if you cut a holographic waveform printed
image into four pieces and point the laser at each one you will not see four quarter segments of
the holographic image. You will see four quarter sized versions of the whole hologram. Every part
of a hologram is a smaller version of the whole.
So maybe our body is just a hologram therefore every part of the body is a smaller version of the
whole. This explains why reflexology, acupuncture and other forms of alternative healing can find
areas in different parts of the body, hand, ear, foot, or suchlike, that affect different organs and the
processes of the whole body.
We are living in a giant hologram, and everything we see around us is merely a projection of a
two dimensional surface. This theory put forward in 1997 by physicist Juan Maldacena

Analysis Of Millay s Lost Love
An Analysis of Millay s Lost Love in Poetry
Poetry is a unique way of telling a story in which the medium in question shows instead of tells.
They come in all sorts of styles from a Haiku to Free Verse. Some of them are very clear as to
what they are about while others can be convoluted and they have to think about for a while. The
message in the poem could be about anything. Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote about a variety of
topics mostly about the pain of loss from either death, break up, etc. Everyone at some point
learns what it is like to lose a loved one and after reading these it could help to them to cope. To
lose someone one loves can be very difficult, how one copes with that is varied but there is bound
to be a Millay poem to help with that.
Time does not bing relief; you all have lied is a poem in which Millay describes the voraciousness
of his or her pain after having lost someone near and dear to them. Within this fourteen line sonnet
they depict the variety of ways they miss them and are reminded of them in their daily life.
There are a hundred places where I fear To go, so with his memory they brim! ( Millay 56).
Within a poem the author has only so much space to convey all they wish to say. To tell a tale and
have the audience to be able to feel and relate to it. Millay shows how with the passing of each
season, the changes in the weather how no matter the time that has passed she continues to miss
them. I miss him in the weeping of the rain; I

The Commercial Use of Mobile Telephones
The Commercial Use of Mobile Telephones
Around the 1980 s mobile telephones started showing up for commercial use. They were analog
style, cumbersome and expensive to purchase. In the 1990 s digital technology was born and
mobile phones became readily available to everyone and less expensive than the previous ten years.
By 1998 over 30% of the world population within the areas of Europe, Asia, and North America had
mobile telephones.
With this type of usage of mobile telephones, Mobile Telephone Network plc (MTN) was born in

The Lone Ranger And Tonto In Heaven By Sherman Alexie
A collection of twenty two stories narrated by different characters, The Lone Ranger and Tonto
Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie illustrates the lives of modern Native Americans on the
Spokane Indian Reservation and their hardships, which include despair, alcoholism, and poverty.
Tribal members hold high hopes for the young who have extraordinary talent while doubting that
they will achieve success and watching them succumb to alcoholism. These stories, while sad and
gloomy, are told with humor and wit, making the stories bearable to the reader. The grabbing title
came to Alexie in a dream, in which the Lone Rangerand Tonto got in a fight in heaven (McNally,
2001).
Sherman Alexie grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Many of his works, such as
Reservation Blues, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, and Ten Little Indians, are
based on his experiences living on the reservation. According to Alexie, [e]very theme, every
story, every tradgedy that exists in literature takes place in my community (McNally, 2001). The
stories in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fight in Heaven are based on things that he has experiences
or witnessed growing up on the reservation. Thomas Builds the Fire, Victor Joseph, and Junior
Polatkin, who are reoccurring characters in the stories, also appear in Alexie s first novel,
Reservation Blues (McNally, 2001).

Analysis Of The Poem Raffaello Sanzio Da Urbino
Intro Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, more commonly known as Raphael, was an admirable and
innovative artist that lived during the High Renaissance period. He was a painter, an architect, and
a poet, and his creativity left a lasting impact in the world of art. His painting in particular was
highly regarded; some considered Raphaelto be the incarnation of painting itself and others said he
was the greatest painter of the western world. Even those who had a low opinion of Raphael gave
him credit for his greatness. His final painting, The Transfiguration, demonstrates the epitome of his
renowned techniques, harmonious color choices, ease of composition, and clarity of form in a
wonderful piece from the Italian Renaissance.
Historical Context ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, two other prominent artists of the Renaissance, worked
during the same time period as Raphael as well. Painting at the same time as them likely had a
positive effect on Raphael s work as they strove to push their creative and innovative limits.
Raphael is now regarded as one of the trinity of art masters alongside Michelangelo and da Vinci,
and even among them he stands out. He differed from Leonardo and from Michelangelo only in
his serene faith that he could go forward without destroying or losing himself this was the
Renaissance faith in the virtus of man. At the age of twenty one, Raphael moved to Florence. This
decision is thought to have been a catalyst for his stylistic development. One of his first
commissions was from Pope Julius II, who asked Raphael to decorate his apartments at the vatican.
As aforementioned, he went on to do architectural work, write poetry, paint frescoes and portraits,
and draw, eventually settling on painting as his primary focus.
Raphael was a follower of classicism. In fact, it was stated that Raphael [gave] form to the
academic version of classicism during the High Renaissance. He was known for focusing on figure
and space, along with having a dramatic expression. Two words that are often mentioned when
discussing Raphael s style are harmony and

Essay on Appearance Vs. Reality
One of the characteristics of Realism, in American literature at least, is the ironic use of
perceptions of appearance vs. reality. With this in mind, Henry James s The Real Thing and The
Beast in the Jungle are two works wherein such characteristics can be shown to operate as James
employs cleverly woven twists of appearance and reality in each of the plots.
In James s The Real Thing, the plot is centered on an unnamed artist and his interactions with two
sets of models: the Monarchs (members of genteel society), and Miss Churm and Oronte (members
of the working class). The ironically named Monarchs are a couple who appear as though they

Monarch.
Miss Churm (a phonetically guttural name that is perhaps a word play on charm by the author)
is a working class native of London and Oronte is an out of work penny ice vendor. James s
introduction of Miss Churm and Oronte to the reader is performed with divergent
characterizations of appearance and reality between the two sets of models. While the Monarchs
are introduced to the readers in a sterile appearance of spotless perfection, and gentility, Miss
Churm (a freckled cockney who couldn t spell and loved beer ) unceremoniously intrudes into the
studio. And Oronte s introduction leads the artist to conclude that the fellow s a bankrupt orange
monger ... a telling comparison from the artist s first impression of the Monarchs, when he believed
them to be sitters. But the success of Miss Churm and Oronte as models of nobility, compared to the
analogous failure of the Monarchs, attributes to the most ironic point of departure in James s
characterizations.
The artist s ability to transform Miss Churm into everything from a fine lady to a shepherdess, and
the Italian Oronte into an Englishman compared with his inability to perform the same
transformation with the Monarchs serves as a

Constitution. There have only been 17 amendments, or changes, since ratification. While the United
States has evolved with time the role and function of the government, and the way the government
guarantees civil rights and liberties, has also evolved. These changes have resulted from changing

Since the Constitution was written the government has had a hand in the economy, however the
proverbial hand has grown bigger and stronger. For instance, the Federal Trade Commission, FTC,
came to be around 1913 and its rulings have had varying levels of impact to the economy. FTC
rulings include: do not call legislation, funeral industry regulation, and antitrust rulings in the
petroleum industry. While the structure of the federal government was and still is the executive
branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch, those branches have each taken on many
more responsibilities as needed to keep up with the progression of America. Put in place by the
founding fathers, Federalism was intended to balance the power of the national and state
governments so that the national government could not acquire too much power. The executive
branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch still exist today as when first created, on a
much larger scale. Extensive modification in the executive branch since the late eighteenth century
has been the growth of the number of departments, agencies, and other offices. In 1789, President
George Washington s administration had three main departments: State, Treasury, and War. He had
other offices that included the office of the Attorney General, the lead lawyer of the federal

A Streetcar Named Desire Film Analysis
In the film A Streetcar Named Desire , the producers do an excellent job of showing how the
film plays with light and dark, illusion and reality, and brutality conflict. Blanche, Stella, Stanly
and Mitch successfully portray the concepts of light vs dark, illusion vs reality, brutality conflict
through various transitions of each. As Blanche arrives at the house of Stella and Stanly, right
away you see his mood go into a very dark place as if he does not want her to be there. Stanly s
character in the film comes off to be very rough and aggressive. The night after Blanche arrived,
she meets Stanly s friend Mitch, who is different from Stanly just by the way he carries himself.
Mitch and Blanche catch a glimpse of each other which brings some light back into her being
there. Stella was in support of her sister blanche meeting Mitch as it may have been an effective
way for her to comfortably. Light and dark effects in a dramatic film play a big part because it
sets the tone of the storyline and helps give the suspension of where the story will go and end
up. It can be good for a film to bounce back and forth from light and dark moments to keep
scenes impactful to the viewer. [For example, in the scene where Blanche buys a cover for the
light in the bedroom area, it made her happy, and the others seemed as if they supported it to make
her feel comfortable, and then towards the end of the film when Stanly snatches the cover off the
light as he is angry, it changes the

Setting And Symbolism In The Piano Lesson By August Wilson
A haunting of the past
In August Wilson s play, The piano lesson, the author takes his readers on a journey through the
life of the Charles family. Sister and brother battle each other over a piano that tells their family s
history. Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his
personal belief in the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has
in a person s everyday life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of
the Charles family and further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew
up in a non wealthy colored district in which he set most of his plays (Fisher, James), so there is
no surprise that Wilson s play has black roots that are relatable to his past ,also acting as salute to
people of color (Gantt, Patricia). His strong connection to African American roots are why
censors ,who have criticized Wilsons work, applaud him on his capability to make interesting
characters and pull from African American folklore (Bloom, Harold), and in doing so, he shared
much of his native craft and technique (Tracie, Guzzio). A man owns the Charles family, whose
grandparents had ownership of his grandparents, and he happens to also be man who held the title
of Robert Stutter (Bryer, Jackson R., and Mary C. Hartig, Wilson 1.2.8). In the play, a major
flashback occurs on a slave plantation where the older Charles family must to pick cotton (2.1.7).
The setting is critical to the family when it comes to the readers understanding of the present
Charles s past, as their grandparents were slaves which in turn made life for the future generations a
lot harder. Although Bernice lives in Pittsburgh (1.1.5), it is still hard for colored people to make a
living and buy food from white only markets, so instead, their parents teach them things such as
how to kill a chicken (2.2.10). Wilson uses setting to show that even though Bernice lives in a
different environment than that of which her family roots originate, their individualities interrupt
and cross within her own (Lise, Kidergurd), and the physical things, such as her skin color, still
affect her present life. Although Bernice does not wish to

The Era Of Good Feelings
Simran Orion
APUSH Sec. 3
The years 1815 to 1825 are incorrectly titled the Era of Good Feelings. Though many consider this
time period to be one of unity and nationalism, the occurrences of this age indicate otherwise.
Though there were a small amount of beneficial happenings in this era, the bad greatly outweighs
the good. Perhaps America prospered economically toward the end of the era with industrialism
thriving, but slavery, taxation, and the expansion of the country beckons the question of how this
time in America s history could have ever been called the Era of Good Feelings. This era
included much conflict and shaped the future events to come. One of the greatest issues within
this time period was slavery. The subject had been suppressed for years, and made a halfway
appearance within the Era of Good Feelings before it was buried, once again. Slavery was the
greatest tension causing topic between the North and South. Southerners were pro slavery, as their
farms and ways of live depended upon it. Northerners were generally abolitionists, as it was
immoral and unconstitutional, in their eyes. Southerners saw the Northerners wishes to abolish
slavery as means to obtain even more power. Were slavery to be abolished in the South, Southern
agriculture and economy would immediately fail, affecting the rest of America, as well. There d be
no one to work on the plantations, except the white Southerners, themselves. Simply, without

a.The relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary regions of the cortex in information
processing is that they are more directly involved with each other than others with sensory or motor
processing. The primary cortex receives information from the peripheral receptors, which then
travels to surrounding primary areas known as secondary and tertiary regions of the cortex where
incoming information is integrated.

Analysis Of Common Sense By Lonnie Rashid Jr.
I just want people to feel like they can achieve something great in their lives. We all go through
rough times, but love is the antidote. You ve got to dream and just believe in yourself. And if you
believe, you will achieve it (Coleman). Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr, also known as Common or Common
Sense, was born on March 13, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois. He is a well known rapper, actor, poet, and
film producer (Wikipedia). Common should be admired because he is selfless when giving back to
the community, compassionate about different causes and movements, and has shown his wisdom
through creative outlets. Common is selfless when giving back to the community. He founded the

Torture In The 8th Amendment
Solitary confinement can be considered as torture by several people due to the mental pain or
suffering that is caused by it. But would solitary confinement be considered an unusual and cruel
punishment to the point of violating the eighth amendment? Is torture considered a bad thing?
Solitary confinement has been the only choice that the system could think of in order to reprimand
those who have already done something wrong. Torture is often used for the purpose of having a
positive outcome, which is not a bad thing depending on the situation and its extent. The eighth
amendment of the United States Constitutionwas first introduced by James Madison for the purpose
of prohibiting some punishments that are not legal, such as painful and hard labor. This amendment
states that punishments must be fair, not cruel, and must have a certain limit. The eighth
amendment also prohibits the imposition of excessive bail and excessive fines. For example, an
accused must be treated as an innocent person before he or she is proven otherwise. Excessive bail
depends on how severe the situations are. Other great examples of the 8th amendment prohibitions
are castration, burning at the stake, and quartering. Based on the wording of the amendment, I
believe that the use of solitary confinement in the United States does not violate citizens eighth
amendment rights. A cruel and unusual punishmentwould be considered grossly disproportionate,
which doesn t exactly concord with solitary

Small Town Essay

This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town
the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the
youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you
might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s
revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different
projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has
grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to
host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not
best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new
sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting
this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team
stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because
the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would
rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The
next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel

Becoming A Writer Essay
Becoming a Writer There is a multitude of jobs and careers I want to have, as some of you may
know, but I think we re only allowed to talk about one. However, there is one job in particular
that I know that I ll do, whether I m paid for it or not. That job is writing. Not only do you need
language skills, but I believe that you will need creativity and an immense amount of patience in
order to be a successful writerof any sort. In contemplation of becoming a writer, there are certain
duties, special skills and talents, as well as certain education to take into consideration. Some of
the things you may be expected to do are: plan out ideas, edit to satisfy needs of self and others,
and actually write. Depending on what is being written, you

  • 3. Alexander The Great Persuasive Essay These are examples of how Alexander strived to complete his objectives by spilling as little blood as possible. However, not all cities were willing to surrender to Alexander. Some, such as Tyre and Gaza, chose to fight to the last. Alexander knew that he had to take these cities so he chose to turn their refusal to surrender and the time that they forestalled his armies into some benefit. Both the cities of Tyre and Gaza were massacred brutally after refusing Alexander s terms of surrender. While these sieges costed him both time and men, Alexander used these massacres as a weapon of terror against his enemy. Through his actions he was able to show that a speedy surrender to his forces was the preferable option to resistance, and likely reduced the time and casualties that would have been sustained by a long series of continuous sieges. However, Alexander was also extremely fortunate to follow up on his success in battle with great rewards. After the battle of Issus, Alexander was able to seize the Persian treasury which was being stored in Damascus. The seizing of your enemy s material wealth is of utmost importance in conducting warfare and perfectly reflected Alexander s strategic objectives. It prevented Darius from quickly... The Bronx has always been seen as a bad borough because of history of crime rate, poverty, and aggressiveness towards other people in the past, but it has slowly been shifting towards a positive change. Gun Hill Road was one of the neighborhoods in the Bronx that was usually known as a ghetto area. This is because of the infamous reputation of the projects and areas around them having higher than usual crimerates. Gun Hill Road/White Plains has had a rough past for a long time, but over time it has actually been improving a lot. • 6. St. Therese Of Lisieux s Saturday Evening Mass On September the 10th, I visited St. Therese of Lisieux s Saturday evening mass. Before attending this mass, this summer I had the opportunity to attend a Catholic Mass during a trip California. Because of this previous experience and the reading detailing the meaning behind each part of Mass, I was able to more clearly understand the workings of the service. Additionally, with regards to the Erickson essay, I learned how to differentiate between Catholic mass and Zwinglian view of the Lord s supper. When attending Mass at St Therese, I witnessed hundreds of years of tradition transpire via the saintly icons, the reading of the Old and New Testament text, the papal prayer, and beautifully somber hymns for glorification of Christ. Immediately, I was impressed by the congregation s knowledge of the routine structure of the service. Before sitting, congregation members kneeled and made the sign of the cross on one s self. Furthermore, I was surprised that the church goers knew the songs by heart without referring to hymnal or having a projection screen with the words displayed. My favorite part of the mass was when the lead male sang a song that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. The Biased American Dream By James Truslow Adam The Biased American Dream The American Dream is a commonly known theme among the general population today. It states that with the right amount of work any US citizen can obtain success in their lives. This idea was popularized around 1930 with James Truslow Adam s book The Epic of America bringing about the idea that there is opportunity for everyone in America if they can work hard enough.3 This idea of the American dream however began much earlier than the 20th century. Rather it began in the west in the 1800s as US citizens gained the ability to cross the frontier and begin completely new lives, whether those lives became advantageous or not. According to the American Dream the western settler s level of work, not race or gender, would determine whether or not he or she became successful. However this was not the case. The American Dream of the 19th century is disparate from the one known today. Unlike Adam s American Dream of the 1930s, this western American Dream was heavily skewed towards white male, US citizen obtainment. This was because the main drive of the western frontier was for white male US citizens to profit from the newly obtained land and keep it for themselves thus fulfilling their new American Dream. In the mid19th century, economic opportunities existed in the Western Frontier of America, allowing people to go and accomplish their dreams if they had the motivation, but those opportunities were prohibitive for women, nonwhites, or non US ... • 13. The Five Causes Of Invasive Species Invasive Species Invasive species are one of the 5 causes of the inevitable 6th extinction. An invasive species is any kind of plant, animal, fungi, or bacteria that is not endemic to a region but, when introduced, can spread quickly and cause destruction to that region. Primarily due human activities, these species are spread by sea, air, and other ways. Sometimes these species are purposely brought to an area as a means of pesticide or other uses, but others can be introduced accidentally. When an new species is introduced to an ecosystem, it can destroy wildlife because organisms may not be evolved to defend against such invaders. On December 26, 2013, in a small village in Guinea, a anomalous disease began spreading. An 18 month old boy fell victim to the illness characterized by fever, black stools, and vomiting and would soon die from it. The boy is said to have contracted the disease from infected bats that were closer to human settlements due to deforestation. By January 2014, several members of the boy s family and those who had helped them had developed similar symptoms resulting in death. Soon after, the disease had spread to those who had attended funerals or took care of ill relatives causing this pattern of exposure continued. • 14. The Fall Of The Roman Empire Historiographic Paper: The End of Antiquity The Fall of Rome HIST534 A001 Sum 15 American Military University David Provencher (ID# 4358187) July 30, 2015 The fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most discussed and debated events in ancient history. Many historians site the date of 476 A. D. as the day the empire ended, but there are also many that say that the 476 A.D. date is subjective because it took many years of internal problems and neglect for the empire to come to an end. Even from the beginning of the Empire under Augustine Caesar many predicted that Rome wouldn t last because of the decadent lifestyle of its citizens. Today this view is still popular but many historians have been searching for other reasons to help explain the collapse of one of the world s greatest empires. The many different views of how the empire fell range from political incompetence, religious extremism, financial or environmental. The fact that no one has offered up a solution that all historians can agree with is simply because of the lack of overwhelming evidence to point to a cause. Another issue is that many historians are looking at the situation through present day eyes, they are looking at the fall of Rome and trying to find reasons that would be relevant to our present day society, not a society that existed thousands of years ago. There are so many reasons that range from the possible to the ridiculous, like the barbarian invasion to lead poisoning, but many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this first article, I want to lay the foundation for the future columns and discuss the use of the PC parallel port to control stepper motors. You can only command the motor to rotate a certain amount clockwise or counter clockwise from its current position. Smooth motion results from presenting the patterns in the proper order. Features that stepper motors provide include: * Excellent rotational accuracy * Large torque * Small size * Work well over a range of speeds * Can be used for motion or position control There are two types of stepper motors: * Bipolar motors, with two coils. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual, the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. For decades, the United States has been one the most notable countries to come under fire with reports of government corruption. During the dawn of the new millennium the Transparency Corruption began to publish their Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), a culmination of assessments and opinion surveys by experts which rank countries based on their perceived corruption. In 2012, the U.S ranked 19 out of 174 countries. Its often questioned how this report would vary had it been published decades before when whistle blowers and journalist were striving to shed light onto government corruption in the 50s , 60s, and 70s. Throughout the history of the United States its been the responsibility of journalist and whistle blowers to report dishonesty and injustice created by those in power. • 24. Analysis Of Millay s Lost Love An Analysis of Millay s Lost Love in Poetry Poetry is a unique way of telling a story in which the medium in question shows instead of tells. They come in all sorts of styles from a Haiku to Free Verse. Some of them are very clear as to what they are about while others can be convoluted and they have to think about for a while. The message in the poem could be about anything. Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote about a variety of topics mostly about the pain of loss from either death, break up, etc. Everyone at some point learns what it is like to lose a loved one and after reading these it could help to them to cope. To lose someone one loves can be very difficult, how one copes with that is varied but there is bound to be a Millay poem to help with that. Time does not bing relief; you all have lied is a poem in which Millay describes the voraciousness of his or her pain after having lost someone near and dear to them. Within this fourteen line sonnet they depict the variety of ways they miss them and are reminded of them in their daily life. There are a hundred places where I fear To go, so with his memory they brim! ( Millay 56). Within a poem the author has only so much space to convey all they wish to say. To tell a tale and have the audience to be able to feel and relate to it. Millay shows how with the passing of each season, the changes in the weather how no matter the time that has passed she continues to miss them. I miss him in the weeping of the rain; I ... His painting in particular was highly regarded; some considered Raphaelto be the incarnation of painting itself and others said he was the greatest painter of the western world. He differed from Leonardo and from Michelangelo only in his serene faith that he could go forward without destroying or losing himself this was the Renaissance faith in the virtus of man. At the age of twenty one, Raphael moved to Florence. This decision is thought to have been a catalyst for his stylistic development. With this in mind, Henry James s The Real Thing and The Beast in the Jungle are two works wherein such characteristics can be shown to operate as James employs cleverly woven twists of appearance and reality in each of the plots. In James s The Real Thing, the plot is centered on an unnamed artist and his interactions with two sets of models: the Monarchs (members of genteel society), and Miss Churm and Oronte (members of the working class). Setting And Symbolism In The Piano Lesson By August Wilson A haunting of the past In August Wilson s play, The piano lesson, the author takes his readers on a journey through the life of the Charles family. Sister and brother battle each other over a piano that tells their family s history. Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his personal belief in the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has in a person s everyday life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of the Charles family and further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew up in a non wealthy colored district in which he set most of his plays (Fisher, James), so there is no surprise that Wilson s play has black roots that are relatable to his past ,also acting as salute to people of color (Gantt, Patricia). His strong connection to African American roots are why censors ,who have criticized Wilsons work, applaud him on his capability to make interesting characters and pull from African American folklore (Bloom, Harold), and in doing so, he shared much of his native craft and technique (Tracie, Guzzio). A man owns the Charles family, whose grandparents had ownership of his grandparents, and he happens to also be man who held the title of Robert Stutter (Bryer, Jackson R., and Mary C. Hartig, Wilson 1.2.8). In the play, a major flashback occurs on a slave plantation where the older Charles family must to pick cotton (2.1.7). The setting is critical to the family when it comes to the readers understanding of the present Charles s past, as their grandparents were slaves which in turn made life for the future generations a lot harder. Although Bernice lives in Pittsburgh (1.1.5), it is still hard for colored people to make a living and buy food from white only markets, so instead, their parents teach them things such as how to kill a chicken (2.2.10). Wilson uses setting to show that even though Bernice lives in a different environment than that of which her family roots originate, their individualities interrupt and cross within her own (Lise, Kidergurd), and the physical things, such as her skin color, still affect her present life. • 44. Torture In The 8th Amendment Solitary confinement can be considered as torture by several people due to the mental pain or suffering that is caused by it. But would solitary confinement be considered an unusual and cruel punishment to the point of violating the eighth amendment? Is torture considered a bad thing? Solitary confinement has been the only choice that the system could think of in order to reprimand those who have already done something wrong. Torture is often used for the purpose of having a positive outcome, which is not a bad thing depending on the situation and its extent. The eighth amendment of the United States Constitutionwas first introduced by James Madison for the purpose of prohibiting some punishments that are not legal, such as painful and hard labor. This amendment states that punishments must be fair, not cruel, and must have a certain limit. The eighth amendment also prohibits the imposition of excessive bail and excessive fines. For example, an accused must be treated as an innocent person before he or she is proven otherwise. Excessive bail depends on how severe the situations are. Other great examples of the 8th amendment prohibitions are castration, burning at the stake, and quartering. Based on the wording of the amendment, I believe that the use of solitary confinement in the United States does not violate citizens eighth amendment rights. A cruel and unusual punishmentwould be considered grossly disproportionate, which doesn t exactly concord with solitary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At least, that s how it is for the youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel ...
