Chilean culture has evolved significantly in recent decades due to economic growth and globalization. A new middle class emerged with increased access to goods, services, and credit. Consumer spending on leisure and recreation increased over 4000% from 1990 to 2010. Television remains an important part of family life, with families watching an average of 3 hours per day together. However, new technologies have also become more prominent in cultural consumption, especially among youth and high-income groups who access foreign content online. Museums and libraries have seen relative growth but still play a smaller role in leisure activities compared to television and online media.
