The Goal By Eli Goldratt
The novel The Goal by Eli Goldratt is an inspiring story of a manufacturing plant that seems to need
some help staying afloat. The story explains the Theory of Constraints and concentrates on bottlenecks
and constraints. The plant manager, and also the main character in the story, is Alex Rogo. In the book,
Alex is depicted as a husband, a father and long time project engineer and plant manager at UniCo
struggling with both his marriage and his manufacturing plant. The main plot of the story starts off
with Bill Peach (Division Vice President) telling Alex that the plant is not profitable. Peach then gives
Alex a three month deadline to improve the plant s performance dramatically and increase profits or
the production plant will shut down. Peach fails to mention that the entire division is under water and
may soon be shut down by corporate. During this challenging time, Alex is also dealing with an
impatient wife at home who is sick and tired of her husband spending so much time at work. She
eventually moves out and Alex is stuck trying to figure out how he can salvage both his marriage and
production plant. When Alex runs into an old Physics Professor, Jonah, he begins to express all of his
challenges at work and is surprised to hear that Jonah is fully aware that the plant is missing deadlines
and experiencing high inventory and expenses. Jonah helps to guide Alex through this challenging
period. Before Alex can tackle the problems, he must first identify the goal.

Atticus Personal Response
I am reading the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The recent chapters we have been
reading focus on how to walk in someone else s shoes. In chapter 10, 11, and 12 mostly talks about
how Aunt Alexandra comes and lives with them for a while and how Jem is maturing more. In
chapters 13, 14, and 15 shows that Atticus goes to the jail cell where Tom Robinson is and so Jem,
Dill, and Scout sneak out and go looking for him. They see that a mob of men are coming towards
Atticus and Tim, so Scout runs to him and makes an end to the situation. Who knew a young child
could protect a man from other men. Some personalities that Atticus shows is knowledgeable and
responsible.
G. (To begin with) I will be characterizing Atticus as knowledgeable ... Show more content on

Within this story there is plenty of evidence to support this. Atticus is does not just have multiple of
knowledge for vocabulary and reading but he also has great knowledge of kid behavior and to be in
someone else s shoes. As a father of two, he is knowledgeable in many materials. First of all, he
teaches his children how read at a young age, so his kids do not have difficulties in school. He tries to
pass on all of his knowledge to his kids. Another way he has plenty of knowledge is by reading. He is
not a normal father in Maycomb county, who drinks beer and plays football. He would much rather
read than play any active sport. One way to show this from the book is He did not do the things our
schoolmates fathers did: he never went hunting, he did not play poker or fish or drink or smoke (Lee
119). This shows that Mr. Finch prefers not to do the crazy stuff other fathers did. He prefers to relax,
read a book, and talk to his kids daily. The final way he demonstrates his knowledge is by taking the
Tom Robinson s case. He knows that he will not win but he is doing it for himself. Atticus tells, The
only thing we ve got is a black man s word against the Ewell . The evidence boils down to you did I
didn t (Lee 117). This describes that even though he know he is not going to win the case, he is going
to try his best, so that is great knowledge of dedication. Not only is Atticus knowledgeable, he is also
responsible. One way he shows responsibility is by teaching his kids to show manner to
people...especially old ones. When Jem got furious at Ms. Dubose and cut her camellia bushes, Atticus
took it into his own hands and made Jem apologize to her. A way he punished Jem is by reading to her
for an hour everyday for a month. Another way he shows responsibility is by asking his sister to come
and take help him take care of Jem and Scout. In the book it shows that, We decided that

Amelia Earhart And Noonan
In 1992, an expedition found in certain objects ( a shoe and a metal plate) on the small atoll of
Nikumaroro south of Howland, which could have been left by Earhart and Noonan. Her girlhood
(childhood) was much like other ones she was just another American girl having a good time. During
her free time, Earhart went horseback riding with her sister Muriel. Amelia Earhart s childhood,
career, and disappearance all contributed to the legacy she left behind.
Who was Amelia Earhart? Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot.
In the winter of 1920 Amelia saw her first air show and took her first airplane ride. ( biography of

Designing A Well Secure Solution
Comprehensive and Secure Solution In order to design and construct a well secured network, many
features must be taken into consideration, such as the topology and placement of hosts within the
network, the selection of hardware and software technologies, and the successful arrangement of each
component. I will discuss securing a LAN from the viewpoint of the network architect considering
two main areas: the network topology which comprises the physical and logical design of the network;
and securing the routers and switches which connect segments and hosts to form the network.
Initial Assumptions and Challenges
Finding some of the best practices and examining some of the security issues found in small to
medium sized networks is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Topology and Architecture
Topology is the arrangement of the various elements (links, nodes, etc.) of a computer network.
Essentially, it is the structure of a network and may be depicted physically or logically. On the
physical side, a network needs provide distribution to the offices or buildings where the users are
located.
In laying out the logical topology we need to consider the arrangement of devices on the network. The
way data is moved across the network may include which groups of users and devices should be
grouped alongside which parts of the network are trusted. The diagram below lays out the proposed
network design. The design includes one router connected to the internet, a core router, a firewall, an
intranet switch, three workgroup switches, multiple workstations, and servers. If the business wanted
to consider more advanced management of the network from an IT perspective we propose adding a
few management workstations and servers as well as setting up a management VLAN (virtual LAN).
The management VLAN will operate on a separate VLAN from the regular user traffic.
Security
A hacker looks for poorly configured network devices. Common vulnerabilities include information
gathering, sniffing, spoofing, and denial of service. As you see in our diagram, we propose to
implement several points of protection,

Night Of Babysitting
Most people find surviving a night of babysitting impossible. Children can be intimidating at times.
Babysitting is not as difficult as people may think. You can survive a night of babysitting if you follow
a few steps. Some people find babysitting difficult, in order to survive a night of babysitting you
should use the following steps. First, you will need an abundance of energy. Children have tons of
energy and they are always moving and you need to keep up with them. Next, you should keep the
children busy. You should plan activities for the children to do such as painting, hide and go seek, and
board games. If you do not plan any activities to keep the children busy they will create their own
entertainment, which means more work for you.

Jim Brown In Professional Football
In 1957, Brown was selected to join the Cleveland Brown squad and immediately joined the team s
training camp. Despite most professional football players taking the time to adjust the high level of
play of the NFL, Brown quickly adjusted and made his presence felt. This showed another important
quality of coach ability that Jim Brown possessed. Jim got better each game, day, week and season.
His ability to be receptive to instruction, taking criticism and challenges to improve was outstanding.
In 1958, Brown won the rushing title for the 1,527 yards he ran and tied the single touchdown record
with 18. As years went by, Jim continued the onslaught, rushing on the ground and catching long
passes into the end zone as teams watched. Between 1958

Friedel-Crafts Acylation Lab Report
The Friedel Crafts acylation reaction is an important and valuable electrophilic aromatic substitution
reaction. First introduced in 1912 by Charles Friedel and James M. Crafts, this reaction allows large
multi step reactions to take place, and creates numerous types of products.1 Today, Friedel Crafts
reactions are among the most used electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions. In the electrophilic
aromatic substitution class of reactions, functional groups are substituted onto an aromatic ring.2
Products such as ketones, hydrocarbons and phenols, phenol ethers, and keto acids can be produced by
electrophilic aromatic substitution.1 These products can then undergo other reactions, allowing for the
creation of many types of products. The products acquired can be used for a range of purposes, such as
pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, etcetera.3 In particular, Friedel Crafts acylation reactions result in a
product containing a ketone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The functional group added during a Friedel Crafts acylation reaction, deactivates the ring, resulting in
a mono substituted ring rather that a poly substituted ring, which is produced from a Friedel Crafts
alkylation reaction.4 The mono substituted product is then further reduced to get an alkyl substituted
ring instead of yielding a product containing a ketone. To obtain the ketone product, an acyl group is
added to an aromatic ring. However, for this reaction to take place, no electron withdrawing groups
can be present on the aromatic ring, and an acyl halide must be used to obtain the acyl cation.5 These
limitations are met, in the Friedel Crafts acylation reaction of anisole with acetyl

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Ultrasound Over...
Advantages of using ultrasound over conventional methods. Low equipment cost. Easy installation.
No additional emulsifier is required to be added in the process. Production of smaller sized particles
with the help of ultrasound is much easier. The process is environment friendly. There are less chances
of mechanical failure as a stirrer (impeller) is not required. Micro and Nano spheres produced by this
method show a better size distribution. As the temperatures involved in this method is not that high the
drug are safe from being decomposed. There is no need of purification in this method as there is no
residual solvent obtained in this method. It is a cost effective method as compared to other methods.
The drug loading in micro and nano spheres produced with the help of ultrasound is easier. The

You can t tax business. Business doesn t pay taxes. It collects taxes. by Ronald Reagan. This quote
really stands out because in this time period there are high taxes. Taxes were one of the big problems
in the progressive era. There were extremely high tariffs and the percentage was different in other
parts in the U.S. During the late 1800s and early 1900s there were reforms done Economically and
Socially . Economically, There were lots of Acts published by Woodrow Wilson talking about how the
consumers pay way too much for taxes. The Underwood Tariff Act of 1913 decreased the tax by ten
percent. Woodrow Wilson then enforces tariffs because he wanted to win the election and people liked
him because he was going to do something that the citizens would like. Socially, there were
progressives who didn t like how them and there peers were being treated because it was disgusting
and filled with filth. There air was polluted and there were diseases spreading every where.
Progressives paid and helped the citizens with their living conditions.
Socially, the U.S. in the 1890 1920s was a time for reform. Due to the slums, health, working wages
this motivated a man named Jacob Riis. He was a muckraker, that being said he would expose the
slums of New York City with horrible and disgusting photographs in newspapers and in meetings.
This attracted many citizens around the world. The images were so graphic that it hit many people.

Business Administration And Human Resource Management
Quantitative research is simply an extravagant name for analyzing data with numerical values. While
it does require numbers to calculate accurate hypothesis, quantitative research can be used to
eventually create hard factual data. Within my current field of study, quantitative research methods are
being used very frequently. I am studying in both business administration and human resource
management and will identify how both fields could benefit from this research method below.
Additionally, the pitfalls or negatives will be analyzed to ensure that there is a clear understanding of
how best to use this method of research to the absolute maximum.
First, let us examine how the world of business uses quantitative research methods on a daily basis. In
the business world, numbers generate all outlooks via positive or negative. For instance, when a
company is analyzing a new market, they will likely run some quantitative research to ensure there are
positive numbers to generate a profit. This could be numbers for population, spending trends or even
stock analysis. All of these examples would be identified through case studies.
However, quantitative research can also be used to track data within the company such as production,
manpower hours, quality of work and mishaps. This allows the management staff to keep operations
running smoothly and also monitor areas that could benefit from improved productivity. This method
could also be used to assist in determining awards,

Ikea Faced While Distributing Their Global Catalogs During...
INTRODUCTION
This case study focuses on a controversy Ikea faced while distributing their global catalogs during the
Fall of 2012. Every year, the company issues 60 different versions of the catalogs worldwide based on
local cultures, tastes, trends, etc of each region. One version of the catalog intended for Saudi Arabia
featured many pictures featured in other catalogs, but with the women erased from the photos. In each
photo, Ikea either completely removed the woman from the picture, or replaced her with an object.
Consequently, the catalog caused much controversy from customers claiming that Ikea was not
following their company s values by not featuring women in the catalog. The key issue that arose from
the ordeal was how would they rebuild their reputation with customers, and how could they take steps
to prevent a similar situation occurring in the future?
In this case study, I will first establish and outline the problem featured, then introduce solutions to the
problem and how to implement them, and end with a brief conclusion.
PROBLEMS AND GOALS
In result to the catalog, Ikea was faced with a major problem. How would they regain the trust of their
customers who expect them to uphold their company s integrity? To address this problem, Ikea should
create a set of goals in order to amend their brand image and reputation. There are four main goals I
suggest the company focus on to do this. They are:
Reassure customers that this was a mistake and does not reflect the

understand our responsibility, it is important to comprehend the original relationship between man and
nature. Genesis 1:26 28 tells us that God created man and woman in His image and gave them
dominion over all the earth. This included all the animals that God had created as well as the entire
earth. God also charged their descendants with the care for all the earth (Gen. 1:28). Even after the
curse, God never withdrew this responsibility. We must care for the world that God has given to us.
Although Scriptures are in general agreement with many of the ecology groups that man is responsible
for his environment, Christians may disagree

The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century
During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at one
point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and
economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has
remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the
concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will
only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the
French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had
extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French
influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French
or British colonies, it meant that other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or
British territories before it would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of
Asia, World East Siam s geopolitical position would prove to be extremely beneficial, as its role as a
buffer between France and Britain would allow it room to maneuver in diplomatic relations, even in
the face of aggression and unfair treaties. The treaties would make up part of the

An Analysis Of Punishment, By Seamus Heaney
Poets have rarely shown a perspective as dubious on the atrocities of the Irish Republican Army as
Seamus Heaney has done in his poem Punishment . Heaney succeeds in uniting two contradictory
perspectives by comparing the cruelty of an ancient time fluently with contemporary barbarism. By
viewing contemporary violence through the lens of Iron Age customs, he untangles the harsh truth of
human nature. Unlike other essays, which have focussed primarily on the historical background, this
essay will analyse the lexical aspects that colour these former and present times. By looking at the
extensive use of lexical oppositions and poetic devices, one can see the many layers Heaney has used,
which is important to underscore the contrasting structures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The poem is enjambed across both lines and stanzas, which allows the reader to flow along in an
evolvement of thoughts. Moreover, past and present seem to merge smoothly since he easily draws
parallels between the ritual sacrifice from the Iron Age and the killings by IRA at the time. The
speaker moves from a detached observer to a puzzled participant, who senses the linkage between the
socialized violence of ancient and contemporary times. Other tools used to link words, and thus
meanings, together and to increase the fluency of the text are alliterations and assonances. The dark
sentiment in this poem is carried on a system of clear alliteration: halter, nape, her neck, her naked and
her nipples in the first stanza, a case of double alliteration, and rigging her ribs , body in the bog ,
stones of silence , shaved head like a stubble , blindfold of a soiled bandage . Assonance is used
abundantly in the third paragraph. Furthermore, the poem is written in iambic pentameter without
rhyme. This rhythmic form also aids to create a continuous flow throughout the eleven four line

Analysis Of The Book Little Red Cap By Angela Carter
Fairytales subvert, challenge or reaffirm archetypal values through didactic lenses. The presence of
universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature, can
be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter s The
Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all promote their
hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of their time period.
Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these fairytale adaptations can
retain their archetypal value and thus remain significant and relevant in contemporary circumstances.
The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context
through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national
cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Little Red
Cap was adapted for instructional purposes, specifically aimed at a children s audience. Initially in the
tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as a sweet little girl
and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the engrained virtue of
her youth. The instruction for Little Red Cap to not stray from the path foreshadows the inherent
danger associated with a misguided venture. The symbolism of

Aerospace engineering is an occupation that helps many different things that are done in America;
some of which being rockets for NASA and airplanes and fighter jets for the United States Military.
An aerospace engineer is a certain type of engineer that primarily designs aircraft, spacecraft,
satellites, and missiles. Aerospace engineers specialize in advanced aerodynamics, so they need
problem solving, analytical, business, critical thinking, math, and writing skills. They either specialize
in aeronautical engineering or astronautical engineering (working with aircraft or working with
spacecraft). In order to become an aerospace engineer, one needs to have a Bachelor s degree (four

Fort Monroe Essay
Fort Monroe, Virginia, has been a major post of the U.S. Army for over 166 years. Fort Monroe is the
largest stone fortication in the United States, moated and covering sixty three acres and cost nearly
two million dollars. It was the crown jewel of America s defense and was built at a great expense
following the British invasion during the War of 1812 and named after President James Monroe. Fort
Monroe was a vital piece in America s defense and history. Fort Monroe also known as Freedom s
Fortress is located near Hampton, VA. Which was at that time a small pretty village on the water s
edge. In 1860 the town and surrounding county had about 3,100 whites, 2,400 enslaved persons, and
200 free persons of color. It was designed by Simon Bernard, it was at one time aide de camp to
Napoleon Bonaparte and was completed by 2nd Lt. Robert E. Lee from 1831 1834.This citadel was
erected at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay on a 565 acre peninsula that was carved by the James
river and York rivers known as Old Point Comfort. Within the moated walls of the fort, a large parade
ground is bordered by buildings and a striking collection of mature oak trees . One particular Tree at
Fort Monroe, known as the Algernourne Oak, is estimated to be nearly 500 years old. These trees are
witnesses to events that shaped both our nation and millions of individuals lives: Old Point Comfort

Emily Dickinson Mood
Emily Dickinson was a poet was a very solitary poet who wrote about topics such as death. She was
from Amherst, Massachusetts, and lived between 1830 and 1886. She began writing poetry when she
was a teenager, and dozens of her poems were published in her lifetime. Two of her most famous
poems I Heard a Fly Buzz and Because I Could not Stop for Death both reflect what it feels like to
experience a near death experience and dying itself. Both are lyrical poems, and have a matching
theme of acceptance, given the gentle tone of voice in the delivery of the lyrics in her poems. The
mood, tone, imagery, and language are all something that compare in the many poems written by
Emily Dickinson, but specifically these two written in 1862 and 1863. ... Show more content on

For example, in I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died, she uses words such as The stillness in the room and
I heard a fly buzz help to give the reader some insight on what is happening as she is dying. The
description makes the audience feel as though there is actually a fly buzzing in the room, and helps to
also enhance the senses of sight and sound because it makes the reader feel like they can actually hear
a fly buzzing. The fly is set to represent death is it is flying around her because she is dying.
Additionally, the image of a dead body appears because when somebody dies and their body
decomposes, flies come around it. This symbolizes that Emily Dickinson is already dead as she is
writing the poem. In the second poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, she paints the image of a
person that is there with her by saying that He kindly stopped for me She also paints an image of The
Carriage held but just Ourselves and passing through her memories when she says We passed the
school... We passed the fields of Gazing Grain We passed the Setting Sun. Dickinson sets the image of
her traveling through her memories as she

Psychological Egoism (Philosophy Paper)
Psychological Egoism (Philosophy Paper)
Psychological egoism is the view that people are always selfish. When was the last time you did a
good deed? Did you do it for its own sake, or for your own? The egoist says that all of us are
necessarily self regarding. I shall argue that this view is incorrect.
First we should ask, what kind of claim is this? Is it an a priori claim, or a generalization from
experience? If it were the latter, we could never conclusively prove it: we could never show that
necessarily all actions are selfish. So it must be a priori. But no a priori claim could be substantive: a
priori truths are all analytic (that is, the predicate is contained in the subject). So if this claim were
analytic, it would become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compare the case in which someone types for hours on a philosophy paper and gets a cramp in his
hand. Did I type in order to get the cramp? Of course not. To be sure, it was a foreseeable result of my
typing, but it was not the motive for my heroic efforts.
Perhaps we can go further in refuting the egoist s claims. Phil Washburn presents the opposing view in
his book Philosophical Dilemmas. This is called psychological altruism. The altruist points to
phenomena such as love that seem to show that people can be genuinely other regarding.
What will the egoist say? The egoist has to admit that there seem to be acts of selflessness, such as the
soldier who jumps on a grenade to save his comrades. Here Washburn s egoist appeals to re
interpretation: there is always a competing story the egoist can give that makes the act turn out to be
selfish. Perhaps the soldier wanted to avoid the pain of living on as a coward, or wanted to become a
hero and bring glory to himself and his family.
Yes, perhaps. But it s not enough simply to present such a story: one must also give some reason to
suppose that it is true in the case at hand. Since egoism is an a priori claim, as we have seen, it
supposes that in every case such a story will be not just available but justified by the evidence. But
this is totally implausible. The egoist s just so stories are just so much hot air.

Contradictions In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Coleridge s Brilliant Views of Life
In Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner the audience will be indulged into an enduring tale.
As old as the poem is, it can be surprising that the popularity has withheld if not risen. The
contradictions that detailed throughout the poem lead the audience through a series of the supernatural
and large disbelief. Thus, Without someone to explain these accounts in person, the interpretation is
left up to the audience. One might be caught in the same thoughts as the wedding guest when reading
the poem, such as amazement, horror, and incredulity. Like this wedding guest was seemingly
hypnotized from listening, the reader was confounded to continue reading. The reader will be affected
greatly by the ideas and intricacies of Coleridge compared to the man in the wedding party. The reader

These personifications used by Coleridge are not unheard of; however, they act as a guideline to
describe the inanimate and animate. An Albatross is a truly living creature in comparison to an
inanimate object such as a rock. The ancient mariner destroys this contradiction in his act of killing the
Albatross. Coleridge masterfully pushes the boundaries of what is actually living and the supernatural,
by granting life to the inanimate and death to the animate. Shortly, after the death of the Albatross the
extraordinary bad luck of the sailors changes for the better, and they now capable of navigating
themselves out of the treacherous ice caps towards the equator. Once at the equator the men are now
under new drastic circumstances, while on calm seas, they are completely out of drinking water.
Coleridge continues to personify the sea, The very deep did rot: O Christ!/... / Upon the slimy sea./

Foils In Catch 22
In the book Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, nearly all of the characters in the book serve as foils toward
the main character Yossarian. The central idea of Catch 22 that Joseph Heller is trying is prove is that
war is crazy and pointless. He shows this with the fact that all of the character in the book except for
Yossarian and Orr are crazy. One of the very important foils in this book is Dunbar, who is Yossarians
closest friend. Other than being Yossarians closest friend in the war, Dunbar is a foil to Yossarian
because he has extremely similar philosophies and ways of acting. Because the characters are so
similar, often times throughout the book many of Yossarian s philosophies and ways of acting are
discovered through Dunbar, which makes him a foil.
Dunbar as a foil to Yossarian is shown in many ways, one of which being that they both have a twisted
sense of humor which only they understand. A way this is shown is with their ironic fear of death, in
which they fail to understand why people are shooting at them. Heller uses Dunbar s sheer will to keep
surviving in the face of death as a comparison to Yossarian. It is a comparison because Dunbar keeps
trying to extend his life, like Yossarian, but eventually gives up hope and goes ... Show more content

betraying his army or pretending to be sick. This shows Dunbar as a foil because he reflects

book with using Dunbar insane relationship with

more ingenious in thinking up unexpected and clever examples; but it turned out that the
inconsistencies were not there; and often their resolution could be found in earlier work of Einstein
himself. When that did not work, after repeated efforts, Einstein had simply to say that he did not like
the theory. He did not like the elements of indeterminacy. He did not like the abandonment of
continuity or of causality. (Oppenheimer, Robert)
He summed up his scientific career by saying The real goal of my research has always been the
simplification of and unification of the systems of theoretical physics ( Einstein). Einstein did not like
to conform to the ideas of others and so was always different and alone in his thoughts.
His scientific work has allowed for a much broader understanding of how the world works and made
some very useful inventions possible.
Albert Einstein s scientific theories accelerated the development of the world like never before and he
gave scientists the tools to mold almost every observable aspect of life as we live today. From nuclear

Observation Of The Middle School Social Studies Teacher
I was pleased to have had the opportunity to observe two eighth grade teachers as part of my
internship process. I will use aliases for these teachers. Mrs. Cessna is a Middle School Social Studies
teacher who is currently teaching U.S. History to eighth grade students. She has been teaching for
thirteen years. The second teacher I observed is an eighth grade Math teacher, Mrs. Knox. Mrs. Knox
is in her twenty first year of teaching. Mrs. Knox is an amazing teacher. The Common Core Standards
for math are very challenging. The way the schedule is set up at North Haven Middle School, the math
teacher teachers 5 classes a day. One class is designed to be an accelerated class, one is a math lab
which is an additional class for struggling math learners. The other three fall somewhere in between.
The class I was able to observe was one of these middle range math classes. The dynamics within the
class varied from a couple students who excel in math to struggling math learners. A few of the
students in this class also attend the math lab while others receive special education services. Mrs.
Knox is able to consider the needs of all her students when teaching. She reviews information multiple
times to ensure an understanding of the math processes. Math is not a subject that lends itself to
student directed teaching and learning. There are specific rules and formulas that need to be taught by
Mrs. Knox. Mrs. Knox tried her best to engage the students in

The Partition onf India
The Partition of India in August, 1947 was a significant event in history that accounted for the
separation of one of the world s oldest civilization into two, independent nations Pakistan and India.
Like many other wars in history, The Partition of India was instigated by religious, political and social
conflict. This resulted in violence, discrimination and the largest human displacement in contemporary
history. While the Partition was well studied, much of our understanding was focused on the political
side of history, not the human side of it. This was why oral history played an important role in
manifesting the complexity of a historical event. Our focus here is Maya Rani s testimony from
Butalia s book, The Other Side of Silence: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To Rani, people dying here, others dying there (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268) was something that
happened every day, it was no surprise to her. Thus, Rani s cynical view about the future of India and
Pakistan was conceivably drawn from memories of witnessing horrendous fights and strife throughout
her whole life (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268).
Official documents have little say about women and children of the Partition as they were viewed as a
collective. Earlier reports on the abduction of women only gave the reader the statistics and brief
statements that glorified community nationalism rather than the victims itself. Many failed to dwell
into the individual trauma of this particular group (Menon Bhasin, 1998, p.11). Rani s testimony was
significant in that not only it opened us to another outlook from a witness point of view; it also
revealed that people who were not physically involved were also affected psychologically. This was
also the only part in the testimony where Rani displayed sympathy and grievance. Her sensitivity and
deep connection with these victims correlated with age and gender. Her emphasis on the words young
and girl throughout her testimony evoked our sense of disbelief that people would do such inhumane
things to each other (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.271). Her hesitant manner, evident

In-Vitro Fertilization Is Ethical Essay
The use of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, used during in vitro fertilization, for medical screening
and sex pre selection is ethical so as long as it is done for the child s best interest and not for
superficial desires of the parents. Every year, around 3,945,875 babies are born in the United States
(NIH, 2017). Unfortunately, 12.1% of women ages 15 44 and 8% of men ages 25 to 44 struggle with
infertility issues (CDC, 2016). It is also challenging for gay and lesbian couples to become parents in

To others, there are a plethora of issues in IVF that constitute it as being unethical. Opponents
consider it unethical to play God and create life in an unnatural manner. They believe couples should

opposition to the destruction of embryos during or after the procedure. For example, embryos are
frozen in large groups and are disposed of if not used or remain frozen for numerous years (Bliss,
2012). Others believe that people should simply adopt a child instead of going through the expensive
and risky procedure of IVF. However, these arguments are only the tip of the iceberg of IVF being that
there are several topics to be discussed. One of the most interesting topics within IVF is that of
designer babies . Although predominantly permissible by law, the ethics of designer babies
encompasses whether or not it is moral to use PGD for preventive medical measures, sex pre
selection, and the determination of a child s various traits. As stated above, the ethicality of the
procedures lie within the intention of pursuing

Personality, Depression, And Uncertainty In The Great...
Uncertainty in the Great Depression
The Great Depression is associated with many images and ideas: stock brokers frantically selling,
families waiting in bread lines, Franklin Roosevelt s presidency, people hunting for any source of
income, and many others. Obviously, the Depression meant different things to different people, and it
is difficult to generalize about their experiences. However, there are some experiences that almost
everyone who lived through the depression shared. Perhaps the most widely experienced feeling
among ordinary people during the Great Depression was uncertainty, including questions about
economics, the definition of success, morality, and politics. Although very few Americans had
experienced uncertainty of the level the Great Depression brought, ordinary people had lived with
uncertainties for their whole lives. In fact, the years leading up to the Depression conditioned many
people to accept some high risks and uncertainties as a part of life, even as a requirement for a life
well lived. In the 1920s, books, magazines, and newspapers portrayed heroes with the traditional
virtues of intelligence, self control, generosity, and other timeless qualities. However, almost every
hero started with or achieved material wealth in addition to their moral qualities. These media sources
built on the tradition of the Protestant work ethic to equate economic success with a good work ethic
and general morality. This gave ordinary people an extra motivation to

Urban agriculture
An urban farm in Chicago
Urban agriculture, urban farming or urban gardening is the practice of cultivating, processing, and
distributing food in or around a village, town, or city.[1] Urban agriculture can also involve animal
husbandry, aquaculture, agroforestry, urban beekeeping, and horticulture. These activities occur in peri
urban areas as well, and peri urban agriculture may have different characteristics.[2]
Urban agriculture can reflect varying levels of economic and social development. In the global north,
it often takes the form of a social movement for sustainable communities, where organic growers,

A very similar practice came into use during the Great Depression that provided a purpose, a job, and
food to those who would otherwise be without anything during such harsh times. In this case, these
efforts helped to raise spirits socially as well as to boost economic growth. Over 2.8 million dollars
worth of food was produced from the subsistence gardens during the Depression. By the time of the
Second World War, the War/Food Administration set up a National Victory Garden Program that set
out to systematically establish functioning agriculture within cities. With this new plan in action, as
many as 5.5 million Americans took part in the victory garden movement and over 9 million pounds
of fruit and vegetables were grown a year, accounting for 44% of U.S. grown produce throughout that
time.[citation needed]
In 2010, New York City saw the building and opening of the world s largest privately owned and
operated rooftop farm, followed by an even larger location in 2012.[6] Both were a result of municipal
programs such as The Green Roof Tax Abatement Program.[7] and Green Infrastructure Grant
Program[8]
With its past success in mind and with modern technology, urban agriculture today can be something
to help both developed and developing nations.

that the per capita gun ownership is still 23 per cent lower than it was in 1996 (Alpers, 2016). In a
survey by the author it was found that 90% of the respondents believe that the gun laws affected
Australia positively, the rest said they haven t affected Australia. It was surprisingly found that no one
said the gun laws had a negative effect on Australia, this could be due to the lack of respondents as
some citizens believe the gun laws have effected Australia negatively, because they believe individuals

  • 2. The Goal By Eli Goldratt The novel The Goal by Eli Goldratt is an inspiring story of a manufacturing plant that seems to need some help staying afloat. The story explains the Theory of Constraints and concentrates on bottlenecks and constraints. The plant manager, and also the main character in the story, is Alex Rogo. In the book, Alex is depicted as a husband, a father and long time project engineer and plant manager at UniCo struggling with both his marriage and his manufacturing plant. The main plot of the story starts off with Bill Peach (Division Vice President) telling Alex that the plant is not profitable. Peach then gives Alex a three month deadline to improve the plant s performance dramatically and increase profits or the production plant will shut down. Peach fails to mention that the entire division is under water and may soon be shut down by corporate. During this challenging time, Alex is also dealing with an impatient wife at home who is sick and tired of her husband spending so much time at work. She eventually moves out and Alex is stuck trying to figure out how he can salvage both his marriage and production plant. When Alex runs into an old Physics Professor, Jonah, he begins to express all of his challenges at work and is surprised to hear that Jonah is fully aware that the plant is missing deadlines and experiencing high inventory and expenses. • 3. Atticus Personal Response I am reading the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The recent chapters we have been reading focus on how to walk in someone else s shoes. In chapter 10, 11, and 12 mostly talks about how Aunt Alexandra comes and lives with them for a while and how Jem is maturing more. In chapters 13, 14, and 15 shows that Atticus goes to the jail cell where Tom Robinson is and so Jem, Dill, and Scout sneak out and go looking for him. They see that a mob of men are coming towards Atticus and Tim, so Scout runs to him and makes an end to the situation. Who knew a young child could protect a man from other men. Some personalities that Atticus shows is knowledgeable and responsible. G. (To begin with) I will be characterizing Atticus as knowledgeable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this story there is plenty of evidence to support this. Atticus is does not just have multiple of knowledge for vocabulary and reading but he also has great knowledge of kid behavior and to be in someone else s shoes. As a father of two, he is knowledgeable in many materials. First of all, he teaches his children how read at a young age, so his kids do not have difficulties in school. He tries to pass on all of his knowledge to his kids. Another way he has plenty of knowledge is by reading. He is not a normal father in Maycomb county, who drinks beer and plays football. He would much rather read than play any active sport. One way to show this from the book is He did not do the things our schoolmates fathers did: he never went hunting, he did not play poker or fish or drink or smoke (Lee 119). This shows that Mr. Finch prefers not to do the crazy stuff other fathers did. He prefers to relax, read a book, and talk to his kids daily. The final way he demonstrates his knowledge is by taking the Tom Robinson s case. He knows that he will not win but he is doing it for himself. Atticus tells, The only thing we ve got is a black man s word against the Ewell . The evidence boils down to you did I didn t (Lee 117). This describes that even though he know he is not going to win the case, he is going to try his best, so that is great knowledge of dedication. Not only is Atticus knowledgeable, he is also responsible. One way he shows responsibility is by teaching his kids to show manner to people...especially old ones. When Jem got furious at Ms. Dubose and cut her camellia bushes, Atticus took it into his own hands and made Jem apologize to her. A way he punished Jem is by reading to her for an hour everyday for a month. Another way he shows responsibility is by asking his sister to come and take help him take care of Jem and Scout. In the book it shows that, We decided that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In laying out the logical topology we need to consider the arrangement of devices on the network. The way data is moved across the network may include which groups of users and devices should be grouped alongside which parts of the network are trusted. The diagram below lays out the proposed network design. The design includes one router connected to the internet, a core router, a firewall, an intranet switch, three workgroup switches, multiple workstations, and servers. If the business wanted to consider more advanced management of the network from an IT perspective we propose adding a few management workstations and servers as well as setting up a management VLAN (virtual LAN). The management VLAN will operate on a separate VLAN from the regular user traffic. Security A hacker looks for poorly configured network devices. Common vulnerabilities include information gathering, sniffing, spoofing, and denial of service. As you see in our diagram, we propose to implement several points of protection, ... Despite most professional football players taking the time to adjust the high level of play of the NFL, Brown quickly adjusted and made his presence felt. This showed another important quality of coach ability that Jim Brown possessed. Jim got better each game, day, week and season. • 8. Friedel-Crafts Acylation Lab Report The Friedel Crafts acylation reaction is an important and valuable electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction. First introduced in 1912 by Charles Friedel and James M. Crafts, this reaction allows large multi step reactions to take place, and creates numerous types of products.1 Today, Friedel Crafts reactions are among the most used electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions. In the electrophilic aromatic substitution class of reactions, functional groups are substituted onto an aromatic ring.2 Products such as ketones, hydrocarbons and phenols, phenol ethers, and keto acids can be produced by electrophilic aromatic substitution.1 These products can then undergo other reactions, allowing for the creation of many types of products. The products acquired can be used for a range of purposes, such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, etcetera.3 In particular, Friedel Crafts acylation reactions result in a product containing a ketone. ... To obtain the ketone product, an acyl group is added to an aromatic ring. However, for this reaction to take place, no electron withdrawing groups can be present on the aromatic ring, and an acyl halide must be used to obtain the acyl cation.5 These limitations are met, in the Friedel Crafts acylation reaction of anisole with acetyl ... While it does require numbers to calculate accurate hypothesis, quantitative research can be used to eventually create hard factual data. Within my current field of study, quantitative research methods are being used very frequently. I am studying in both business administration and human resource management and will identify how both fields could benefit from this research method below. Additionally, the pitfalls or negatives will be analyzed to ensure that there is a clear understanding of how best to use this method of research to the absolute maximum. First, let us examine how the world of business uses quantitative research methods on a daily basis. In the business world, numbers generate all outlooks via positive or negative. For instance, when a company is analyzing a new market, they will likely run some quantitative research to ensure there are positive numbers to generate a profit. This could be numbers for population, spending trends or even stock analysis. All of these examples would be identified through case studies. However, quantitative research can also be used to track data within the company such as production, manpower hours, quality of work and mishaps. This allows the management staff to keep operations running smoothly and also monitor areas that could benefit from improved productivity. INTRODUCTION This case study focuses on a controversy Ikea faced while distributing their global catalogs during the Fall of 2012. Every year, the company issues 60 different versions of the catalogs worldwide based on local cultures, tastes, trends, etc of each region. One version of the catalog intended for Saudi Arabia featured many pictures featured in other catalogs, but with the women erased from the photos. In each photo, Ikea either completely removed the woman from the picture, or replaced her with an object. Consequently, the catalog caused much controversy from customers claiming that Ikea was not following their company s values by not featuring women in the catalog. The key issue that arose from the ordeal was how would they rebuild their reputation with customers, and how could they take steps to prevent a similar situation occurring in the future? In this case study, I will first establish and outline the problem featured, then introduce solutions to the problem and how to implement them, and end with a brief conclusion. PROBLEMS AND GOALS In result to the catalog, Ikea was faced with a major problem. How would they regain the trust of their customers who expect them to uphold their company s integrity? To address this problem, Ikea should create a set of goals in order to amend their brand image and reputation. There are four main goals I suggest the company focus on to do this. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. Heaney succeeds in uniting two contradictory perspectives by comparing the cruelty of an ancient time fluently with contemporary barbarism. By viewing contemporary violence through the lens of Iron Age customs, he untangles the harsh truth of human nature. The presence of universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature, can be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter s The Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all promote their hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of their time period. Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these fairytale adaptations can retain their archetypal value and thus remain significant and relevant in contemporary circumstances. The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Initially in the tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as a sweet little girl and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the engrained virtue of her youth. Did you do it for its own sake, or for your own? The egoist says that all of us are necessarily self regarding. I shall argue that this view is incorrect. First we should ask, what kind of claim is this? Is it an a priori claim, or a generalization from experience? If it were the latter, we could never conclusively prove it: we could never show that necessarily all actions are selfish. So it must be a priori. But no a priori claim could be substantive: a priori truths are all analytic (that is, the predicate is contained in the subject). So if this claim were analytic, it would become ... Phil Washburn presents the opposing view in his book Philosophical Dilemmas. This is called psychological altruism. The altruist points to phenomena such as love that seem to show that people can be genuinely other regarding. What will the egoist say? The egoist has to admit that there seem to be acts of selflessness, such as the soldier who jumps on a grenade to save his comrades. Here Washburn s egoist appeals to re interpretation: there is always a competing story the egoist can give that makes the act turn out to be selfish. Perhaps the soldier wanted to avoid the pain of living on as a coward, or wanted to become a hero and bring glory to himself and his family. Yes, perhaps. But it s not enough simply to present such a story: one must also give some reason to suppose that it is true in the case at hand. These personifications used by Coleridge are not unheard of; however, they act as a guideline to describe the inanimate and animate. An Albatross is a truly living creature in comparison to an inanimate object such as a rock. The ancient mariner destroys this contradiction in his act of killing the Albatross. Coleridge masterfully pushes the boundaries of what is actually living and the supernatural, by granting life to the inanimate and death to the animate. Shortly, after the death of the Albatross the extraordinary bad luck of the sailors changes for the better, and they now capable of navigating themselves out of the treacherous ice caps towards the equator. Once at the equator the men are now under new drastic circumstances, while on calm seas, they are completely out of drinking water. Coleridge continues to personify the sea, The very deep did rot: O Christ!/... / Upon the slimy sea./ About, about, in reel and rout / The death fires danced at night; (Lines 123, 126 128). • 29. Foils In Catch 22 In the book Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, nearly all of the characters in the book serve as foils toward the main character Yossarian. The central idea of Catch 22 that Joseph Heller is trying is prove is that war is crazy and pointless. He shows this with the fact that all of the character in the book except for Yossarian and Orr are crazy. One of the very important foils in this book is Dunbar, who is Yossarians closest friend. Other than being Yossarians closest friend in the war, Dunbar is a foil to Yossarian because he has extremely similar philosophies and ways of acting. Because the characters are so similar, often times throughout the book many of Yossarian s philosophies and ways of acting are discovered through Dunbar, which makes him a foil. Dunbar as a foil to Yossarian is shown in many ways, one of which being that they both have a twisted sense of humor which only they understand. A way this is shown is with their ironic fear of death, in which they fail to understand why people are shooting at them. Heller uses Dunbar s sheer will to keep surviving in the face of death as a comparison to Yossarian. It is a comparison because Dunbar keeps trying to extend his life, like Yossarian, but eventually gives up hope and goes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 30. Accomplishments Of Albert Einstein years first in trying to prove that the quantum theory had inconsistencies in it. No one could have been more ingenious in thinking up unexpected and clever examples; but it turned out that the inconsistencies were not there; and often their resolution could be found in earlier work of Einstein himself. When that did not work, after repeated efforts, Einstein had simply to say that he did not like the theory. He did not like the elements of indeterminacy. He did not like the abandonment of continuity or of causality. (Oppenheimer, Robert) He summed up his scientific career by saying The real goal of my research has always been the simplification of and unification of the systems of theoretical physics ( Einstein). Einstein did not like to conform to the ideas of others and so was always different and alone in his thoughts. His scientific work has allowed for a much broader understanding of how the world works and made some very useful inventions possible. Albert Einstein s scientific theories accelerated the development of the world like never before and he gave scientists the tools to mold almost every observable aspect of life as we live today. Suddenly these thoughts seemed utterly insignificant. That spring, I got diagnosed with heart disease. Ventricular Tachycardia. It is strange to think that somebody 21 years old could get such a complicated sounding disease. Initially I felt confused and a bit doubtful. I asked the doctor over and over again to make sure it was the correct diagnosis. Eventually I came to accept the fact that I have Ventricular Tachycardia. Eventually, I was able to see that having this disease didn t have to be such a negative thing; that it could help me on my path. I went back to volunteering and shadowing with a new understanding. I was finally able to feel what the patients were going through, because I had gone through something similar. The confusion, fear, doubt, anger. The Partition onf India The Partition of India in August, 1947 was a significant event in history that accounted for the separation of one of the world s oldest civilization into two, independent nations Pakistan and India. Like many other wars in history, The Partition of India was instigated by religious, political and social conflict. This resulted in violence, discrimination and the largest human displacement in contemporary history. While the Partition was well studied, much of our understanding was focused on the political side of history, not the human side of it. This was why oral history played an important role in manifesting the complexity of a historical event. Our focus here is Maya Rani s testimony from Butalia s book, The Other Side of Silence: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To Rani, people dying here, others dying there (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268) was something that happened every day, it was no surprise to her. Thus, Rani s cynical view about the future of India and Pakistan was conceivably drawn from memories of witnessing horrendous fights and strife throughout her whole life (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268). Official documents have little say about women and children of the Partition as they were viewed as a collective. Earlier reports on the abduction of women only gave the reader the statistics and brief statements that glorified community nationalism rather than the victims itself. Many failed to dwell into the individual trauma of this particular group (Menon Bhasin, 1998, p.11). Rani s testimony was significant in that not only it opened us to another outlook from a witness point of view; it also revealed that people who were not physically involved were also affected psychologically. This was also the only part in the testimony where Rani displayed sympathy and grievance. Her sensitivity and deep connection with these victims correlated with age and gender. Her emphasis on the words young and girl throughout her testimony evoked our sense of disbelief that people would do such inhumane things to each other (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.271). Opponents consider it unethical to play God and create life in an unnatural manner. They believe couples should conceive on their own without the help of a medical procedure involving embryos. This is due to their opposition to the destruction of embryos during or after the procedure. For example, embryos are frozen in large groups and are disposed of if not used or remain frozen for numerous years (Bliss, 2012). Others believe that people should simply adopt a child instead of going through the expensive and risky procedure of IVF. However, these arguments are only the tip of the iceberg of IVF being that there are several topics to be discussed. One of the most interesting topics within IVF is that of designer babies . Although predominantly permissible by law, the ethics of designer babies encompasses whether or not it is moral to use PGD for preventive medical measures, sex pre selection, and the determination of a child s various traits. • 41. Personality, Depression, And Uncertainty In The Great... Uncertainty in the Great Depression The Great Depression is associated with many images and ideas: stock brokers frantically selling, families waiting in bread lines, Franklin Roosevelt s presidency, people hunting for any source of income, and many others. Obviously, the Depression meant different things to different people, and it is difficult to generalize about their experiences. However, there are some experiences that almost everyone who lived through the depression shared. Perhaps the most widely experienced feeling among ordinary people during the Great Depression was uncertainty, including questions about economics, the definition of success, morality, and politics. Although very few Americans had experienced uncertainty of the level the Great Depression brought, ordinary people had lived with uncertainties for their whole lives. In fact, the years leading up to the Depression conditioned many people to accept some high risks and uncertainties as a part of life, even as a requirement for a life well lived. In the 1920s, books, magazines, and newspapers portrayed heroes with the traditional virtues of intelligence, self control, generosity, and other timeless qualities. However, almost every hero started with or achieved material wealth in addition to their moral qualities. These media sources built on the tradition of the Protestant work ethic to equate economic success with a good work ethic and general morality. This gave ordinary people an extra motivation to ... A very similar practice came into use during the Great Depression that provided a purpose, a job, and food to those who would otherwise be without anything during such harsh times. In this case, these efforts helped to raise spirits socially as well as to boost economic growth. Over 2.8 million dollars worth of food was produced from the subsistence gardens during the Depression. By the time of the Second World War, the War/Food Administration set up a National Victory Garden Program that set out to systematically establish functioning agriculture within cities. With this new plan in action, as many as 5.5 million Americans took part in the victory garden movement and over 9 million pounds of fruit and vegetables were grown a year, accounting for 44% of U.S. grown produce throughout that time.[citation needed] In 2010, New York City saw the building and opening of the world s largest privately owned and operated rooftop farm, followed by an even larger location in 2012.[6] Both were a result of municipal programs such as The Green Roof Tax Abatement Program.[7] and Green Infrastructure Grant Program[8] With its past success in mind and with modern technology, urban agriculture today can be something to help both developed and developing nations.
