An idea I found interesting in the novel Of Mice And Men, by John Steinbeck was loneliness
and isolation. I found this idea interesting because it helped me understand how important it is to
be surrounded by people. George and Lennie s friendship contrasts this idea as they are friends
and they have each other, whereas most of the other ranch workers travel alone. The idea of
loneliness was strongly conveyed through the characters Crooks and Curley s wife, they are both

OlabisiOnabanjo University Main Campus was surveyed usingelectrical resistivity method to
unravel the competent depth for structures foundation. The research was also aim to delineate the
lithological arrangement of the soil using this method.
The study area lies between Longitude N06В°55.389кћЊ N06В°55.384кћЊ and Latitude
E003В°55.001кћЊ and E003В°54.959кћЊ respectively. It lies in the Pre Cambrian basement
complex terrain of South western Nigeria. The rocks present in Precambrian basement complex are
mainly Granodiorite, Porphyroblastic Granite, Migmatite Gneisses, Biotite Gneisses and
Hornblende Gneiss. The Gneisses constitute the major rocks by the other groups of rocks. The
basement complex is one of the three major litho petrologic components that make up the geology
of Nigeria.

Even though the home of the future will bring many benefits to consumers, owning home
appliances connected to the internet may pose a security risk. In an article by Adam Turner, titled
Smart technology may make your home a net target , Turner explains the dangers of using smart
home devices. How do these dangers affect smart home technology? To explain the issues, Turner
relays the knowledge of AVG securityadviser Michael McKinnon. Mckinnon claims that people use
most of these devices to access files remotely, giving hackers the opportunity to breach them. After a
hacker gains access to a home s internal network, they can then collect passwords and financial
information (Turner 1). The essence of Turner s argument is that by using internetconnected smart
home technology, hackers have an easier means of accessing sensitive information.

Improper identification leads to wrong procedure, hence complication and possibly death (Position
Statement Surgical Safety 2015). The WHO checklist helps to improve surgical safety through
confirming safety practices are upheld and developing better communication within the
multidisciplinary team (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015), thus providing optimum patient
care (ACORN Competency standard 5). Surgery related complication and mortality was reduce by
33%, through a study of eight hospitals from 2007 to 2008 (Position Statement Surgical Safety
2015). Therefore proving that compliance with safety measure were increased as a result of
endorsing the SSC, and obliges to competency standard 3.3. Through briefing and debriefing,
standard of care is improved, as the whole multidisciplinary team is made aware of the procedure,
and allows for optimal performance, which decrease surgery time, thus improve surgical safety
(ACORN Competency Standard 9). Furthermore it is important that each hospital adapt their own
policy in regards to the type of facility, such as in the occurrence of near miss episode (appendix
1,), institutions must refine their policy to provide the best care for the patients (Position Statement
Surgical Safety 2015).

How Does Katherine Mansfield Use Dramatic Irony In Miss Brill
Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield is a short story surrounding the main character Miss Brill as
she goes about her Sunday routine. Through Miss Brill Mansfield portrays the theme that one
can easily fall into a world of fallacy and blur the lines of fantasy and reality, and she utilizes
irony to depict this. Verbal irony is seen in the way Miss Brill describes herself throughout the
story. While sitting in the park, people watching, Miss Brill imagines herself as an actress in a
grand play. She even states to an old man, Yes, I have been an actress for a long time (342). This

The irony in this is found in the fact that Miss Brill is the static and odd one in this situation. She
is merely a lonely old woman sitting on the park bench, never moving or interacting with others.
This shows how deeply she believes in her fantasy and how skewed her perception of reality is.
The entire short story is surrounded by dramatic irony. Miss Brill lovingly cares for a fox fur, as
described on the first page, She had taken it out of its box that afternoon, shaken out the moth
powder, given it a good brush, and rubbed the life back into the dim little eyes (339). She goes
about her day, creating extravagant fantasies, until her daydream is shattered by young couple.
The couple makes fun of Miss Brill s fur by comparing it to a fried whiting , or a fried fish, and
the reader at this point knows that the fur is ugly, dead, similar to fried fish, but Miss Brill still
believes in it s worth. Her lifeless fur will remain just that, dead and limp, similar to Miss Brill
herself, and when she rubbed the life back into those dim little eyes Miss Brill was actually
referencing herself; however, she is so invested in her fantasy that only the reader can see the

Akakiy Akakievitch is the protagonist in The Overcoat. In the short story Akakiy is said to be
ugly, poor, have no courage, pathetic, and is unemotional. Akakievitch s job is to copy papers as
a low ranking official. The main theme of The Overcoat is isolation. The theme of isolation
relates to absurdity for the reasons that Akakiy has no relationships, doesn t fit into society s
standards until he gets a new overcoat, and is an antihero. Akakiy is isolated from most events

A life interchanging from high to low, happy to sad, to the brink of exploding with euphoria to
the lowest low, is the life of a human living with Bipolar disorder. This roller coaster of emotions
is inevitable and almost unlikely to cure in terms of later onset. Living with any personality
disorder puts strain and hardship on your loved ones and is more then anyone would want to

Linings Playbook does a great job depicting a character with Bipolar disorder and the struggles
the main character Pat faces on a day to day basis through his road to recovery. Silver Linings
Playbook displays many types of psychological disorders that include Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder, Bipolar disorder, and a slight sexual disorder. Bradley Cooper does an exceptional job
playing the role of Pat Solitano, a bipolar patient who has just been released from a psychiatric
ward after almost killing another man for sleeping with his wife. He plans to relive his past and
thinks that nothing has changed since he has been gone, a common occurrence of a subject with
bipolar disorder. On his journey he is set up with the character Tiffany, played by Jennifer
Lawrence. She is a recently widowed woman that uses sex as a way of coping with her loss. These
two characters connect throughout the movie and develop a relationship
