Modern Heroes In Dante s Inferno And Beowulf
Although when most hear the phrase modern hero they primarily imagine heroes from today s
time; however, that does not mean ancient heroes, such as Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim, are
unable to display the same traits as today s heroes. The most common traits among modern heroes
consist of people who are capable of some sort of supernatural ability that separates them from
everyone else, selflessness or generosity, and courageousness. These traits are portrayed by the
main characters of both Dante s Inferno and Beowulf. Although they both demonstrate heroism,
Beowulf is portrayed as more of a modern herothan Dante because he displays all three of the
common characteristics of a modern hero while Dante only displays two of them. A key component

Beowulf, being a war hero, displays his courage every time he goes to fight a monster whether it
be Grendel or the dragon. Beowulf s willingness to go into battle against creatures that could
potentially kill him is not something most would do especially to the extent that he does. For
example, before the battle with the dragon Beowulf tells his men at arms to remain here on the
barrow, safe in your armor. . . this fight is not yours (Beowulf 2529 2533). Beowulf is telling his
men to stay back while he fights the dragon alone, that takes a tremendous amount of bravery to
go against a fire breathing dragon alone with no back up. This fearless attitude that Beowulf has
is not shared with Dante. Dante throughout the Inferno is shown to faint on multiple occasion
due to his fear and shock. For instance, after Dante hears Charon speak in Canto III of the
Inferno the twilight country shook so violently, the terror of it bathes me with sweat even in
memory. . . like one whom sleep comes over in a swoon, I stumbled into the darkness and went
down (Inferno 3. 127 130). So, in other words, when Dante is over come with fear or anxiety he
passes out and is unable to act. That does not display courageousness, but instead it shows his
weakness of being unable to control his fear. Imagine if Beowulf acted in a similar manner when
facing up against the dragon. He would have not been able to defeat the dragon and the people of
city would have continued to be terrorized by the dragon. This lack of courage displayed by Dante
is what sets him apart from Beowulf and prevents him from being a true modern

Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings...
Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there
are some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework
classifying the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict
definitions by discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches
to this topic are different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a
being. There is key similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and
Heidegger are two philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being?
This paper discusses the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle
asks many what questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific
type of animals and how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy
when discussing the differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled
destructible mobile substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can
disintegrate when no soulis in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul
but not a rational soul compared to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal
is a living item that has perception. (413b1 5) These perceptions state that the animals have wants,
desires,

Volcano In Iceland
Eyjafjallajökull, or translated directly to island mountain glacier is a fairly active stratovolcano
located on the south coast of Iceland. The mountain stands at about 5,400ft at its highest summit
and erupted most recently in spring of 2010. The Eyjafjallajökull eruption of 2010 was the first in
190 years. The volcanois completely covered by an ice cap and is one of around 130 volcanoes
located in Iceland, it is also one of the smallest. Previous eruptions occurred in the years 920,
1612, and 1821 1823. The 2010 eruption of the volcano began March 10, 2010 and was declared

Volcanic ash is highly rich in nutrients, which is good for the soil and the agriculture industry,

familiar with the country. The volcano now boasts a new tourist facility and is a popular attraction

The Man In The Water By Roger Rosenblatt
How hard is it to do the right thing? In the article, The Man in the Water , many people did the
right thing right until the end. The Man in the Water takes place in Washington D.C., where there
was a blast of winter. It was a chaotic disaster that caught the nation s attention. In reality, not
everyone is willing to be the good guy . Everyone have once, thought of themselves more than
others but, in this article, not everyone was selfish. Not being selfish, showed heroism and bravery.
In the article The Man in the Water , Roger Rosenblatt uses conflict and setting to develop moral
courage. In this article, the author uses conflict to show guts. There are many problems and
situations in this article. One of the problems in this article is a plane crashing. Last Wednesday, the
elements, indifferent as ever, brought down flight 90 (Rosenblatt, 273). Nature has brought down a
plane in its winter wonderland. Many people were injured and cannot aid themselves. Despite this
incident, the humans worked together to overcome this obstacle to help help others that needed it.
Instead of doing nothing, they risked their lives to make sure the people on the plane lived..
Another conflict is, the humans having a chance to go home. The men who helped out was given
numerous chances to leave the disaster site. They had a choice to stay... Show more content on

The conflicts in this article is man versus nature and man versus self. The setting also affected
heroism by being in winter and in an important city called, Washington. Moral courage is trying
to not be greedy but to help each other and not for personal gain. Just like the unidentified man
who did not want to reveal himself. He did it out of the heart and not to receive awards or fame.
The theme of Moral Courage related to the real world because if everyone helped each other then,
the world will be a better

Feminism
Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
The movement organized around this belief.
Feminism
Feminist Theory is an outgrowth of the general movement to empower women worldwide.
Feminism can be defined as a recognition and critique of male supremacy combined with efforts to
change it.
Feminism
The goals of feminism are:
To demonstrate the importance of women
To reveal that historically women have been subordinate to men
To bring about gender equity.
Feminism
Simply put:
Feminists fight for the equality of women and argue that women should share equally in society s

Society s Influence
Fashion and the film industry are two huge influences on societal expectations that women display
their bodies sexually.
The sexual revolution liberated women from the
Victorian of modesty but also demanded a commitment to diet and beauty.
Doing Gender
Many feminist theorists believe that an individual is labeled at birth as a member of a sex
category, either male of female, and from that point on, is held to acting accordingly.
Gender is not something that one has or something that one is; rather, it is something that one does.
Gender as Social Structure
Risman does not accept the criteria of nature as a way to distinguish behavior expectations.
She is especially upset by the field of sociobiology.
Gender as Social Structure
By assigning people to one or two categoriesmale or female society has created difference between
them.
Risman feels that genders strongest influence is found at the interactional level, and therein lies the
deepest liability for the continuation of inequality in American family life
Relevancy
Feminism can be defined as a social movement and an ideology in support of the idea that a larger
share of scarce resources should be allocated to women. Feminist believe that women should enjoy
the same rights in society as men and that should share equity in society s opportunities.

Compare And Contrast Mental Illnesses
Mental and physical illnesses are both very serious, but also very different. Mental illnesses are
often overlooked, as well as overshadowed by physical illnesses. Mental and physical illnesses,
while vastly different, do have similarities. Both can require intense treatment, and both can get
overlooked. The difference is that mental illnesses are more difficult to diagnose. Say if you
break your arm, you know the bone is broken or fractured. Nobody could argue that. Where if
you are always sad and melancholy, it s just assumed you are having a bad day, or blamed on
mood swings. Physical illnesses are often caused by something specific, whether if it runs in your
family, you caught it from somebody else, or any other reason, there is almost... Show more content

The Crossing Movie Analysis
Film Review: The Crossing
The movie starts off in the winter of 1776 just six months after the colonies declared
independence from Britain. The Continental Army had already suffered many losses against the
British forces and were being chased away towards the boundary between New Jersey and
Pennsylvania the Delaware River. The approaching winter caused many to become ill causing the
Continental Army to have even fewer soldiers to fight. The only way they can get away from the
oncoming attacks from the British is to cross the Delaware River.

portrayal of Washington. Before watching the only thing I really knew about Washington was
that he was a great general but I didn t know what that really meant. This movie shows that by
seeing Washington s thought process when thinking of his plans of attack and it shows his care
for his men. One scene that was a small part really showed this. While his men were marching
for miles the Generals were all riding horses but Washington wanted to encourage his men to
keep going so part way through he got of his horse and marched alongside them. It was kind of
symbolic because he got off his high horse and lowered himself to his men which some would see
as him degrading himself but I saw that as him respecting his men and knowing that what they were

Junk Food
Junk food has been getting a bad rap recently in society. It is believed that junk food is a leading
factor in childhood obesity and should not be allowed in public schools. Due to this many school
systems have enacted bans, or strict regulations that limit or completely exclude junk food in
schools. Junk foodshould not be banned in schools because schools profit and are able to fund
educationand extracurricular activities through selling it, junk food isn t as harmful as one would
think, and even if schools ban junk food students can still be at risk of obesity through the use of
outside sources.
Schools make huge profit through the use of vending machines and selling junk food that help fund

There are many studies that show junk food isn t as harmful as many would imagine. According
to Radford, A study followed nearly 20,000 students from kindergarten through the eighth grade
in 1,000 public and private schools. The researchers examined the children s weight and found
that in the eighth grade, 35.5 percent of kids in schools with junk food were overweight while
34.8 percent of those in schools without it were overweight (1). These researchers came to the
conclusion through this experiment that junk food in school wasn t as serious in issue as one
would think. Junk food isn t exactly available twenty four seven while students are in school. As
stated by Rosenthal There really isn t a lot of opportunity for children to eat while their in
school, or at least eat endlessly, compared to when their at home. As a result whether or not junk
food is available to them in at school may not have much bearing on how much junk food they
eat (6). For lack of a better statement, students can t eat as much at school as they can when their
at home. Whether kids have access to junk food or not, it is believed them gaining weight from it
isn t an issue. As quoted by Radford, kids with access to junk food at school were no heavier than
those without (2). To be blunt, kids who eat junk food aren t going to be any heavier than anyone
else.

A central point of the story in Gone Girl is the animosity between Nick and Amy in their marriage.
There are several reasons why these negative feelings exist, but the recession which occurred in the

Reflection Paper On Teaching Experience
Today was the first day in a while where I was able to interact with the students for most of my
time in Mrs. Beach s class! When I arrived, Mrs. Beach and I shared how sad that we were that
today was my last observation. I have developed such great relationships with my mentor teacher
and her students that it was hard to say good bye. Mrs. Beach and I also talked about some of the
things that I have learned from my time with her. I have always loved the first ten minutes of my
observation because it is the time the Mrs. Beach and I use to debrief the past observation or to
discuss the types of teaching that I will observe. Today, we talked about how the geometry unit that
the students have just started is very easy and that in past years students have flown through it.
With that being said, Mrs. Beach teaches this unit differently. Instead of dividing the class into two
groups to teach the lesson in small groups, the teacher taught the lesson whole group.
Before teaching the lesson, Mrs. Beach had the students read the lesson objective silently. The
lesson objective stated: I will use right angles to determine whether angels are equal to, greater than,
or less then right angles. Draw right obtuse and acute angles. After two minutes, the teacher asked
students to share the terminology that they recognized from the objective. This is how the
conversation went:
Teacher: I am looking for a thumbs up if tour have read the objective. Can someone read this for us
aloud? What do you recognize from this objective?
Student: I remember what a right angle is.
Teacher: What s something that you don t recognize?
Student: Acute and obtuse angles.
Teacher: Okay, good. Make a right angle with your arms. Now make an obtuse angle with your
arms. I always think of an obtuse angle as having a deep voice because it is bigger than a right
angle (The teacher says this last sentence in a deep voice). Now make an acute angle with your
arms. I always think of an acute angle as having a cute voice because it is smaller than a right
angle (The teacher says this last sentence in a small, higher pitched voice). Using gestures to
teach this part of the lesson was so creative, and the kinesthetic learners were eating it

Ibjectages And Disadvantages Of A Relational Database...

Codd. Data is stored in tables, in the form of rows and columns and the relationhips between these

The tables, which contain data stored in rows and columns are made using SQL. Before storing data,
it is essential to identify relationships among them. This is done so using an Entity Relationship

installations routinely used by military forces that supply their personnel with the means and
equipment to respond to a threat within the land it occupies (The Editors, 2011). As the world s

To answer this we must look at the stability and political environments that encompass a state
because they play a large role in the ability of other actors to occupy land that it controls. For this
reason, the US should only associate with countries that follow their same beliefs. The US must be
cautious as to what countries that they decide to ally themselves with in order to analyze potential
political outcomes (Lostumbo, Michael J., McNerney, Michael J., Peltz, Eric, 2013). Factors that

Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Oppositional Defiant Disorder is a tricky diagnosis when it comes to teens. Let s face it, a whole
lot of teens are defiant by nature, so let s take a closer look at this complex disorder. At times, even
the best brightest will defy the rules, push limits, and challenge authority. It is the nature of
adolescence. The difference between normal adolescent rebellion and O.D.D. is that teens with this
disorder will thrive on pushing buttons creating conflict. When it comes to teens with oppositional
defiant disorder, it s all about control and power.
Every parent/child relationship has a give take when it comes to the endless power struggle of

This is where parenting a teen with Oppositional Defiant Disorder gets tricky.
Let s talk about two major tools you can use when struggling with setting limits and the power
struggles that come along with Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
First, pick your battles. Now, I m not saying let a teen get away with anything, by now most of
you realize that I m all about teaching teens personal responsibility, but, when you know that the
outcome is going to be conflict, you have the option of picking the best time and place for this
battle. If delaying an argument is the best option to get your teen out the door and onto the school
bus, push the pause button, let it go temporarily, and come back to the situation when time is on
your side. This gets your teen out the door and keeps them on task, and it allows both sides time to
reflect on the situation.
Second, know what rules bend and what rules break. In an ideal world, all rules would be
followed, without issues, but this is the really real world, and a parent that knows when to be
flexible is going to have less conflict, and is less likely to find themselves caught up in a power

lying on the floor of his room, semiconscious. The motel manager calls 911, and Raymond is
taken to the closest emergency room, where he lies on a gurney in the hallway for 6 hours before
a physician examines him. Because it is unclear what is wrong with him and he cannot speak
coherently, the physician admits him to the hospital for observation. Later, when it is determined
that he had suffered a stroke; he is discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation facility that has no
knowledge of his medical history including his current medications for hypertension and high
cholesterol. He dies there several weeks later. 1. Identify the source(s) of inefficiency of medical
care. The first source of inefficiency in this case is that the patient was admitted to observation. The
patient would be on Medicare and if he is admitted to observation, then to a rehabilitation center it
will cost more. The patient should have been admitted to the hospital first as an inpatient, preferably
in the ICU, because the patient was unable to communicate (Barry, 2012). When the condition of
stroke was determined the patient needs to stay in the ICU, until stable, before going to a
rehabilitation center. Rehabilitation will not do any good until the patient is well enough to be able
to rehabilitate. If the patient is not stable enough, to be moved then this would cause a readmission,
which would cost more money.

A Report On The Subway Closed At 11
No one spoke English in the bookstore. But there was still an English section populated by cheap
copies of public domain classics like The Odyssey or Jane Eyre. Beyond it, the sprawling window
revealed a neon glitzed row of karaoke bars.
Excuse me, a voice said.
It was an American girl about 20 years old. Boston accent.
Do you know what time the subway closes?
The subway in Beijing closes at 11 PM. I learned this firsthand, when a thunderstorm stranded me in
the Zhonglouwan Hutong. I plodded back to my hotel as water flooded the cobblestone streets. My
shoes practically melted off my feet.
She was a nice girl. After a while, I invited her to grab a drink with me at a cafe down the road. She
was down. After all, the subway closed at 11 and it was only 9:30.
It was late summer, 2015. I was 24 years old. I had been living alone in Beijing for the past month.
The American Film Institute sent me to China through a partnership with IDG Media. I had spent
the past year battling through AFI s rigorous and rewarding first year. Frankly, I could use some
time alone.
Be careful what you wish for.
A teacher once told me, I ve been alone in my life and I ve been lonely. They re totally different
things.
In Beijing I was mostly alone.
Then I got lonely.
We left the bookstore and went to an erudite cafe called the Bookworm. We ordered drinks. The
girl was a journalism major, also living in Beijing on a scholarship.
I mentioned I was a screenwriter. She

The National Alliance For End Homelessness Essay
One of the simplest pieces of knowledge we acquire in elementary school (for future growth and
development) are the three basic needs a living organism requires for living: food, water, and
shelter. However, not everyone has access to all of these essentials. Homeless people are faced
with awful conditions and suffer more due to poor weather conditions, diseases, and lack of safety.
There hasn t been much progress on this issue, and if this continues, the number of homeless people
will only increase. In a few states the topic is being named as a statewide emergency , but
unfortunately this problem is national. Instead of focusing on state programs, local programs and
non profit organizations to fix the housing issue, we must all contribute to ending this epidemic.
The National Alliance to End Homelessness(NAEH) released an article stating, In January 2015,
564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States (Snapshot of Homelessness).
We must develop a solution to end long term homelessness immediately. The best way of solving
this issue is to provide stable long term housing, which is a term used to describe the home s
environment and financial status.
The most logical solution for homelessness is a project known as Housing First. The Housing First
program was first launched by Tanya Tull, an individual with first hand experience of povertyand
advocate for homelessness, due to an increasing number of homeless people in the 1990s.

The General Internal Medicine Ward
A lot of the appeal of internal medicine is Sherlockian solving the case from the clues. We are
detectives; we revel in the process of figuring it all out. It s what doctors most love to do Lisa
Sanders.
Reflecting on my clinical rotation in the general internal medicine ward, I worked on a variety of
cases. I got to work with a patient who had cirrhosis secondary to Hepatitis C infection, a patient
who had COPD and developed right sided heart failure, a patient who had an un witnessed heart
attack that resulted in brain death, and much more. I enjoyed this variety, and I felt challenged
everyday to identify and evaluate differential diagnoses to come up with an appropriate
management for the patient. I also enjoyed the process of working independently to learn about the
mechanism of disease, and working collaboratively within the ward and in consultation with
different services to identify diagnosis and management plan.
Throughout my medical career, I have strived to succeed with the best of my abilities. I
completed all of my courses with above average scores. I have successfully passed my Step 1, 2
CS and CK, and MCCEE exams on first attempt. I have used my knowledge to help fellow
colleagues by offering mentorship in to MD3 Neuroscience students while I was in MD4. As a
clerk during internal medicine core rotation I had the opportunity to work in both hospital and
clinical setting. I found this opportunity very rewarding and it helped my developed my patient care.

Literary Devices In Hamlet
Hamlet Analysis
To be, or not to be? That is the question, These words are spoken by Hamlet in the play Hamlet by
William Shakespeare. This quote is well known around the world and is interpreted differently, with
so much meaning behind a small soliloquy. Throughout the play, Hamlet, Shakespeare uses the
literary device to involve the audience on what is occurring but also to convey more meaning and
understanding. Shakespeare uses symbolism describe complex ideas, that help develop the plot of
the play. Another literary device he uses is imagery, he uses imagery throughout the play to give a
more accurate representation of the corrupt Denmark and the events taking place within. Lastly, he
uses allegory, the allegories are used to hide the moral all throughout the play. In Hamletthe play,
William Shakespeare, uses different literary devices to further the understanding of his writings,
through symbolism using objects to convey the meaning behind it, imagery using descriptive words
to help give a more vivid picture to the audience, and allegory to hide morals/messages behind other
things.
Throughout the play, Shakespeare uses symbolism to help the audience further understand the
meaning. The one example that stood out the most was, the poison throughout the story, for
example, ...Upon my secure hour, thy uncle stole With juice of cursed hebenon in a vial, And in
the porches of my ears did pour... (Act 3, Sn. 5, ln. 61 63). Poison was a symbol of death and
afterlife, they

The crystal clear water feels refreshing to the touch. As you look around and see the life that is

This is why it is so vital to the survival of the ocean population. Like nitrogen, Carbon is absorbed
and dissolved into the surface of the ocean. Tiny marine plants called phytoplankton use
photosynthesis to turn much of the carbon dissolved into the ocean into organic matter. Some
organisms use it to make the material used for shells and skeletons, calcium carbonate. By using up
carbon through chemical and biological processes, there is more allowance for carbon dioxide to
enter the water from the atmosphere. The nickname carbon sink has been given to the ocean
because it absorbs more carbon than it lets out.
The relationship between humans and the ocean could once be categorized as commensalism,
where the human was helped, and the ocean was neither helped nor harmed. Now, it has some of
the same characteristics of parasitism. Humans continue to fish, sail, and explore in the ocean.
One of the largest impacts humans have on the ocean is pollution. Beaches across the world are
littered with trash and toxic materials, in and out of the water. Since every ocean connects, a
piece of trash could start in Cuba, and end up somewhere on the coast of Madagascar. To try and
reverse the damage done, there are clean up attempts all around the world to try and make the
ocean what it once was. Trash left over isn t the only problem going on. Every once in awhile,
there will be a large boat, transferring oil from one continent to another. The BP oil spill in

The Greek Constellation Of Aries
I chose the constellation of Aries because of it s fascinating history and it s story in mythology. It s
located in the northern hemisphere between Pisces to the west and Taurus to the east. It s name is
latin for ram and because of that it s sign represents ram s horns. This constellation possesses only
four stars: Hamal(Alpha Arietis, second magnitude ) , then Sheratan ( Beta Arietis, third magnitude
) and at last Mesarthim and 41 Arietis ( both of them Gamma Arietis, forth magnitude ).
Originally, in ancient texts, this constellation was defined as a specific pattern of stars, and has
remained that way since then. Now it includes the ancient pattern as well as the surrounding stars.

Her ancestors had assisted Vlad Dracule during his rise to power; other relatives went on to

child, a quality found to be unique for someone of her social status. She was also vain, often
boasting of her fresh complexion that she believed was her best feature. Well educated, Erzebet
was able to both read and write in four languages.

blood of young girls was the key to eternal beauty.
Erzebet s helpers began combing the countryside by the dark of night in search of worthy girls.

Then their throats would be slit, the blood draining into a bath below. Erzebet would then bathe in

Rate Of Teen Pregnancies In The United States
One crucial question is what is the rate of teen pregnancies in the United States? According to the

roughly 0.24% of the United States overall population. Though, not a substantial amount, it still
generates an abundance of issues; not only for the mother and child, but also for the country as teen

Intolerance During The Nazi Regime
Intolerance
The definition of intolerance is the unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ
from one s own . There have been many times in history when people have been unwilling to
accept things that are different than what they belief. There has been the Nazi regime, whites
segregating blacks, people who disagree with people who are homesexual, and Donald Trump.
One example of intolerance is during the Nazi regime. When Hitler came to power in 1933, he
tried to imprison and kill all Jews and nobody for the most part tried to stop him. Hitler didn t stop
there though, he still thought that everyone who didn t have blonde hair and blue eyes were not
good enough, because they were not what he thought to be the perfect race. There was the
holocaust. There were about 42, 500 facilities in Germany that were used for slave labor, mass
murder, and other human right abuses. It is to be predicted that about 200,000 Jews died during
the Holocaust. Jews were hunted down and were forced to go into hiding. If they were caught, they
would be sent to concentration camps where many died. Six million Jews died, including 1.5

What Are The Four Major Developmental Theories
Introduction
Developmental theories help teachers in many ways to enrich their teaching and student s learning
process. Therefore, it is very important teachers to apply the key ideas of these developmental
theories in their teaching career to the betterment of students.
This document will present a brief description of four major developmental theories and will focus
on how these theories can be applied in my real teaching world as a middle school teacher. Four
major developmental theories
Though many theorists have brought the study of human development, there are about four major
important theories that are in use effective (Oswalt, Major Child Development Theories and
Theorists, 2007). They are:

Piaget s stages of cognitive development theory
Jean Piaget has brought a cognitive developmental theory with four stages;
Sensorimotor (birth to 2 years), Preoperational (2 to 7 years), Concrete operational (7 to 11 years),
and formal operational (12 years to adulthood). In
Piaget s view, throughout these four stages all children develop their thinking according to how
they see the world around them (Oswalt, Jean Piaget and Child Development
, 2007).
Lawrence Kohlberg s theory of moral development

identify and differentiate what is right and what is wrong.
In his theory, he presented main three levels with total six stages. They

Homosexuality As A Psychological Disorder
The social argument for homosexuality dates back to the ancient Greeks. Aristophanes, in his
Symposium investigates homosexuality, although not termed as such, as a desire by men to share a
long term fulfillment of the soul. He believed that two souls are longing to be together, and the
sexual desire alone is not strong enough to create homosexuality, but that the cultural environment
allows or forbids the relationship to occur (Heffner, 2003). The debate about homosexuality dates
back further than expected. However, it does not matter how far back it goes, there is still the
same result, homosexuality is not biological and homosexuals are not born this way . Groups
supporting gay and lesbian relationships [did not emerge] until after World War II, (Morris, 2015).
Research being done today to prove that homosexuality is biological has yet to have solid evidence
to support that theory. Therefore, the start up of these groups were quite unnecessary.
Homosexuality, at most, is a psychological disorder, meaning it is all in the person s head. It can be
caused by a multitude of things and can be changed with a little help from others. Although there is
no irrefutable evidence regarding the origins of sexual preference there is significant historical and
sociological support, that homosexuality is environmentally derived.
A psychological disorder is a disorder of the mind involving thoughts, behavior, and emotions that
cause either self or others significant distress

Social Abstivation Aspects Of Social Observation
Robert is 5 years old and this observation took place at a family party, in a great social setting. I
received clearance to observe Robert by both his mother and father. Robert is an only child and
spends his time equally between his maternal and paternal families due to the fact that his parents
are separated. He is a third generation Mexican American. He seems to be growing fairly well in
reference to his height and weight compared to other children his age. Throughout much of the
afternoon, I observed calm behavior and much later, I observed a more boisterous behavior. At the
beginning of the observationhe walked into the social setting being almost oblivious to the people
around him, not wanting to formally greet members of the family until his father asked him to do
so. After this, Robert sat at a table alone until children approached him and then he became a little
less shy in demeanor.
The next transition in this observation began at the time children started to come, Robert
nervously asks a group of children if he can play with them and the group accepts. Much of the
observation between Robert, the group of children, and playtime consisted of playing with a
basketball in which there is no clear objectives or rules , playing shooting or bad guy, good guy
games, and just aimlessly, randomly running throughout the yard and home. Robert doesn t seem to

The On Arab Spring, Syria
I.Introduction With the escalation of protests that would mark the so called Arab Spring, Syria s
president Bashar al Assad responded not just through brute force but also by the raising of the
salaries of the public servants, the cancellation of subsidy cuts, the waiving of fees and the
allowance of illegal building (SyriaReport 28 March, 3 and 4 April 2011). In this response one can
see one element that the regime has deployed in its quest for survival that of the deployment of
patronage to which many would claim that the Syrian regime would bribe their own people so as
to remain in power. Though one can see this as a desperate attempt of a dying regime, this may
more of an oversimplification. What would be noted that this form deployed here would be
considered Patronage or Clientalism which more than just a survival mechanism, it is the normal
aspect of conferring legitimacy upon a regime that rules in a corporate manner with little appetite
for representative government. In this system of governance, the state is more or less detached
from the public at large and is mainly tied through an elitegroup that would support the activities of
the state machinery, because of this lack of legitimacy the trust between the communities are
insufficient and to win this trust the ruler would engage in an activity called Clientalism in which
he would reward a certain group in exchange for support. Such a system is prevalent in a majority
of authoritarian states, especially Syria,

The Christ Of The Dead
Having heard from people all over of how the Thessalonians gave up their worship of idols and
had committed themselves to serving the one true God (1 Thessalonians 1:9), the apostle Paul
was eager to embark on a mission to Thessalonia long before he ever did (1 Thessalonians 1 3).
However, the Thessalonians were very new to the Christian faith and were also somewhat naГЇve
when it came to understanding certain aspects of their own religious doctrine, as shown to us by
the Thessalonians fear of the Second Coming of Jesus, and the death of the believers, which will
come when he returns. Paul knew this and didn t want the Thessalonians to be uninformed, so he
told them what to expect, (1 Thessalonians 4:13 18), and also told them not to fear what was to
come, because all the believers, living and death would meet the lord beyond the clouds. In The
Taking Up of The Dead, Joseph Plevnik ponders on whether or not Paul encountered the
Thessalonians before this, and spoke to them of the resurrection of the dead. Plevnik also questions
whether Paul registered a change of view on the matter between 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians,
and wonders what s to be made of the translation motif in 1Thessalonians? Plevnik begins his
argument by mentioning how religious scholar B. Rigaux once commented on the Thessalonian
letters. He observed that because certain exegetes concluded on the basis of (v.13) that the
Thessalonians knew nothing of the resurrection of the dead, (as seen by

Film Adaptation Of Shakespeare s The Tempest
Julie Taymor s 2010 film adaptation of Shakespeare s The Tempest is a truthful recreation of the
classic romantic tragicomedy in all aspects except that the role of the magician, Prospero, is
played by Helen Mirren, turning him from Prospero to Prospera. Through this simple change in
the gender of one of the main characters, we see the play s themes called into question and
viewed differently to how they would have been if the role of Prospero was played by a male.
These themes include the usurpation of royalty and family. This review will discuss how Taymor s
decision to change Prospero s gender is a critique of modern gender discourse. When Sebastian and
Antonio usurp Prospera during the flashback in the middle of the film, we... Show more content on

I feel that through this decision, Taymor is commenting on the state of Elizabethan society and
its view of women, who were desirable only if they were silent and invisible (Greer 2007, 4) and
although not as conservative as the Elizabethan era, our own contemporary society, where
women are still not equal to men. It also comments on how there is a canon built around
Shakespeare, whose parts for women are comparatively few and composed largely of supporting
rather than leading roles. (Goodman 2001, 71). Due to this canon, Taymor (and many other
directors and screenwriters) are forced to reinvent Shakespeare s plays (Goodman 2001, 84 85).
Family is one of, if not the biggest theme in Shakespeare s The Tempestand this theme is of course
shown in Taymor s adaptation of the play. But the fact that Prospero is a woman in the film shows
the audience a deeper relationship between Prospera and Miranda the mother daughter relationship.
In the original play, we see Prospero as owning his daughter rather than having a normal father
daughter relationship with her. It is as though Miranda is an object to be given as a prize to another

Differences On Body And Tissue Weights
Results and Discussion
Body and Tissue Weights
The initial body weight of rats was similar (p value=0.19). At the end of the experimental period,
the HFFr+S rats had a near doubling of visceral fat weight, compared to the control group
(6.9В±1.1 g vs. 3.4В±0.4 g, p value=0.009), while it was slightly and non significantly lower in the
other groups, especially in the rats gavaged with the high dose of metformin (200 mg/kg/day). After
60 days, no significant differences were found between the groups regarding the final body weight
and liver/body weight percentage (Table 2). This suggests that the excess energy intake of HFFr
rats have led to a greater adiposity, but not to a higher body weight.

In this study, HFFr diet, calcium vitamin D3 supplementation and oral gavage administration of

the levels of serum CTRP3 (also known as cartonectin, cartducin, CORS 26) was significantly

By allowing you to order online this gives you the ability to view the entire menu when ordering
so there is never an question as to what they offer. They call their curbside pickup Ruby Tue Go.
They also have the ability to have orders ready for pick in about 15 minutes. It makes it easy and
convenient for getting a good lunch in the middle of a busy work day. There is also the fact that
they offer not only call ahead orders for pickup but also reservations that can be placed both over
the phone and online. I understand that in larger cities this is something that most restaurants
offer but in my home town they are the only ones to offer reservations. According to their
website they offer full service catering if needed for a meeting or larger gathering. They will do
everything from setting up the food and seating to tearing down ofter the gathering is over. The
customer has the ability to make all the arrangements online where they have access to the full
menu that is offered. They will cater to all sorts of gathering. A few examples are: Business
Meetings, Pharmaceutical Sales Events, Graduation Parties, Tailgating, Holiday Parties, Baby
Showers. They have a portion of their menu devoted to healthy foods that makes them not only a
nice restaurant that offers reservations and a fine dinning experience for everyone, but also a
healthy alternative for those people who are trying to do the best

Analysis Of The Motorcycle Diaries Walter Salles
The Motorcycle Diaries (2004), directed by Walter Salles, demonstrates nuanced political motifs
highlighting not only the overt political turmoil of Latin America as well as socio political
problems. Salles combines this with Hollywood and filmic politics, Salle s own own understanding
of the project of filmmaking in Latin America responds to what the film scholar Zuzana pick has
called a continental project that is a common creative activity directed toward cultural
decolonialisation, identify search, and political unity through the cinematic expression amid the
continent s countries (Elena, DiМЃaz LoМЃpez, 2003) in order to create a romanticised global
product whose politics can be seen as determined by the need to appease film goers,... Show more

And Salles again demonstrates Ernesto s burgeoning communist awakening by having him
suggest, forming a trade union when he asks, a local man unfairly fired from his job if he has
organised with other workers in order to overthrow their boss. Another example Salles using
creative licence to serve his own bias or that of film goers and financial backers, by simplifying
the narrative. He does this in order to elicit a gut response of injustice in the viewer, making the
narrative that of the oppressed against the oppressors or good against evil. Salles cinematography
specifically here attempts to place the viewer in Ernesto s position by having him shoot a series of
photos which are displayed on screen in black and white, from the photographers perspective. This
seeks to have the audience empathise and perhaps change along with Ernesto by seeing the results
of oppressive authority on to peoples they do not understand. This invokes other stories of journeys,
like Jack Kerouac s On the Road Which similarly exploits the plight of indigenous peoples It was
beautiful... I thought I d found my life s work. (Kerouac, 1997) in the purity of this environment Sal
finds himself among the Mexican peasant workers. Salles Indigenous peoples regurgitate this theme
of retaining the unique essence of the land when compared to the modern cities of the Spanish
conquistadors. This interaction furthers Guevara

The Effects Of Immigration On The United States
Immigration can be defined as: the movement from one country to another country. Immigration
had two major impacts on the US: on the labor market and especially on the politics of race. The
black rebellions of the 1960s created a political crisis for the government of US on the adequate
response to black rebellions. Daniel Patrick Moynihan and President Johnson proposed two
different policies to resolve black poverty.
Moynihan s reason as to why black poverty exists is due to the pathology of African Americans.
He believes African Americans shouldn t demand for Affirmative Action. Moynihan s reason ties
into Goldfield s theories of impoverishment for poverty as pathology. Poverty as pathology states
how people are poor because of how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The analysis of the African Americanculture is to be compared to the culture of Asian Americans.
The culture of Asian Americans is considered as the model minority. The term, model minority is a
minority group who are perceived to be successful compared to other minority groups. The culture
of African Americans consists of families who tolerate foolish behavior and whose standards are
not that high and strict. The culture of Asian Americans (families) is in contrast to the culture of
African Americans (families). The culture includes: providing a secure environment for children,
pushing children to work harder, foster savings, being disciplined and submissive, motivate and
discipline their children, establish a sense of obedience, promotes individualism, and the
development of Confucian ethic. The Asian Americanculture is a positive factor compared to the
African American culture (negative difference) towards African Americans. Moynihan must
incorporate the element of the race s culture in order to identify a solution to the poverty of the
particular race. Understanding the race is simply not content when it is necessary to come up
with solutions to poverty of a particular race. The opinion of Robert G. Lee s as to whether or not
Asian America Model Minority is true. Lee considers the Asian American model minority to be a
myth. This is because of not everyone is or was successful from the Asian American model
minority. Since the 1970s, a majority of Asian

  • 2. Modern Heroes In Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Although when most hear the phrase modern hero they primarily imagine heroes from today s time; however, that does not mean ancient heroes, such as Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim, are unable to display the same traits as today s heroes. The most common traits among modern heroes consist of people who are capable of some sort of supernatural ability that separates them from everyone else, selflessness or generosity, and courageousness. These traits are portrayed by the main characters of both Dante s Inferno and Beowulf. Although they both demonstrate heroism, Beowulf is portrayed as more of a modern herothan Dante because he displays all three of the common characteristics of a modern hero while Dante only displays two of them. A key component ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf, being a war hero, displays his courage every time he goes to fight a monster whether it be Grendel or the dragon. Beowulf s willingness to go into battle against creatures that could potentially kill him is not something most would do especially to the extent that he does. For example, before the battle with the dragon Beowulf tells his men at arms to remain here on the barrow, safe in your armor. . . this fight is not yours (Beowulf 2529 2533). Beowulf is telling his men to stay back while he fights the dragon alone, that takes a tremendous amount of bravery to go against a fire breathing dragon alone with no back up. This fearless attitude that Beowulf has is not shared with Dante. Dante throughout the Inferno is shown to faint on multiple occasion due to his fear and shock. For instance, after Dante hears Charon speak in Canto III of the Inferno the twilight country shook so violently, the terror of it bathes me with sweat even in memory. . . like one whom sleep comes over in a swoon, I stumbled into the darkness and went down (Inferno 3. 127 130). So, in other words, when Dante is over come with fear or anxiety he passes out and is unable to act. That does not display courageousness, but instead it shows his weakness of being unable to control his fear. Imagine if Beowulf acted in a similar manner when facing up against the dragon. He would have not been able to defeat the dragon and the people of city would have continued to be terrorized by the dragon. This lack of courage displayed by Dante is what sets him apart from Beowulf and prevents him from being a true modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings... Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there are some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework classifying the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict definitions by discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches to this topic are different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a being. There is key similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and Heidegger are two philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being? This paper discusses the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle asks many what questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soulis in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception. • 23. The National Alliance For End Homelessness Essay One of the simplest pieces of knowledge we acquire in elementary school (for future growth and development) are the three basic needs a living organism requires for living: food, water, and shelter. However, not everyone has access to all of these essentials. Homeless people are faced with awful conditions and suffer more due to poor weather conditions, diseases, and lack of safety. There hasn t been much progress on this issue, and if this continues, the number of homeless people will only increase. In a few states the topic is being named as a statewide emergency , but unfortunately this problem is national. Instead of focusing on state programs, local programs and non profit organizations to fix the housing issue, we must all contribute to ending this epidemic. The National Alliance to End Homelessness(NAEH) released an article stating, In January 2015, 564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States (Snapshot of Homelessness). We must develop a solution to end long term homelessness immediately. It s what doctors most love to do Lisa Sanders. Reflecting on my clinical rotation in the general internal medicine ward, I worked on a variety of cases. I got to work with a patient who had cirrhosis secondary to Hepatitis C infection, a patient who had COPD and developed right sided heart failure, a patient who had an un witnessed heart attack that resulted in brain death, and much more. I enjoyed this variety, and I felt challenged everyday to identify and evaluate differential diagnoses to come up with an appropriate management for the patient. I also enjoyed the process of working independently to learn about the mechanism of disease, and working collaboratively within the ward and in consultation with different services to identify diagnosis and management plan. Throughout my medical career, I have strived to succeed with the best of my abilities. I completed all of my courses with above average scores. I have successfully passed my Step 1, 2 CS and CK, and MCCEE exams on first attempt. By using up carbon through chemical and biological processes, there is more allowance for carbon dioxide to enter the water from the atmosphere. • 35. Homosexuality As A Psychological Disorder The social argument for homosexuality dates back to the ancient Greeks. Aristophanes, in his Symposium investigates homosexuality, although not termed as such, as a desire by men to share a long term fulfillment of the soul. He believed that two souls are longing to be together, and the sexual desire alone is not strong enough to create homosexuality, but that the cultural environment allows or forbids the relationship to occur (Heffner, 2003). The debate about homosexuality dates back further than expected. However, it does not matter how far back it goes, there is still the same result, homosexuality is not biological and homosexuals are not born this way . Groups supporting gay and lesbian relationships [did not emerge] until after World War II, (Morris, 2015). Research being done today to prove that homosexuality is biological has yet to have solid evidence to support that theory. Therefore, the start up of these groups were quite unnecessary. Homosexuality, at most, is a psychological disorder, meaning it is all in the person s head. It can be caused by a multitude of things and can be changed with a little help from others. In this response one can see one element that the regime has deployed in its quest for survival that of the deployment of patronage to which many would claim that the Syrian regime would bribe their own people so as to remain in power. Though one can see this as a desperate attempt of a dying regime, this may more of an oversimplification. What would be noted that this form deployed here would be considered Patronage or Clientalism which more than just a survival mechanism, it is the normal aspect of conferring legitimacy upon a regime that rules in a corporate manner with little appetite for representative government. In this system of governance, the state is more or less detached from the public at large and is mainly tied through an elitegroup that would support the activities of the state machinery, because of this lack of legitimacy the trust between the communities are insufficient and to win this trust the ruler would engage in an activity called Clientalism in which he would reward a certain group in exchange for support. However, the Thessalonians were very new to the Christian faith and were also somewhat naГЇve when it came to understanding certain aspects of their own religious doctrine, as shown to us by the Thessalonians fear of the Second Coming of Jesus, and the death of the believers, which will come when he returns. It also comments on how there is a canon built around Shakespeare, whose parts for women are comparatively few and composed largely of supporting rather than leading roles. (Goodman 2001, 71).
