How Does Writing Change Over Time
Writing has changed a lot over the years. The hot topics fade and new ones replace them. From
early America to 1870 there was not many changes in the topics because there was not as many
people as there are now. There was only three considerable changes to writing styles and topics.
The writing styles and topics over the years have changed from myths, to God, and finally to
individualism. Writingstarted off as myths. There are four functions of a myth. The myth must
include all of creation, day to day function of the world, support customs/rituals, and how to deal
with trials and tribulations. An example of a myth is The World On The Turtle s Back. That myth
was written by the Iroquois and was about how the world was created. Their myths were generally
communicated orally. The myth talked about a heaven where the gods lived. One became curious
and fell into the underworld. The woman... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was in play when the Puritans came over and settled in America. They tried to be godly and
always do the correct thing. An example of this type of writing is The Crucible. The Crucible is a
play written about a true event. These godly people did not like witches. They thought that witches
were possessed by the devil so they killed them. They thought they were doing the right thing, but
some people took advantage of it. Those girls were ungodly, but everyone thought they were godly.
The Puritans thought that children were innocent (they never lied). That is not the case and these
ungodly children took advantage and twisted these people s minds. Some people were godly and
did the right thing but most people were not, even though that is what they thought they were
doing. Those people thought that they were ridding Salem of the devil and allowing God back in
but what they were really doing was pushing God out and opening the door for the devil. When the
Puritans arrived in America, they changed the style and topic of writing to

Similarities Between Zelda And Jay In The Great Gatsby
The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is an autobiography. Many of Fitzgerald s
personal circumstances and experiences are portrayed in the novel and movie very similar to
Fitzgerald s life. Fitzgerald writes about what he envisions about himself through the character of
Gatsby and Nick.
If the novel is looked at from a point of view of Gatsby, it is clearly shown that the character
portrays experiences from Fitzgerald s life through biographical and historical events. Many of
Fitzgerald s experiences are incorporated into Jay Gatsby. Like Jay, Fitzgerald as a boy rejected the
circumstances of his own birth. He sometimes fantasized that he really had been born into a family
very different from his own. One of wealth and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nick is a truthful man within a bunch of liars. Nick moves to New York to make his own money
selling bonds. Tom and Daisy are both cheating on each other with different people along with
Myrtle. Gatsby lies about his life to fit in with other people. Nick is the only one who does not
lie to himself. Fitzgerald was truthful to himself, when he published books he did not say he
was famous to fit in with other people. Nick heads east seeking his own fortune and not to be
given one. Nicks moral sense is also like Fitzgerald s, at the beginning Nick starts to interact with
the others and is not like them at all. He is set off to be more practical, down to earth person.
This is evident in chapter two when he does not know how to respond to Tom and Myrtle s
secret life. Fitzgerald was also a down to earth person who was realistic. He told his wife that she
should stay with him because of an educated guess that he was going to make money off of his
books. His wife did not go and cheat on him because he did not have money, she waited for him
and eventually married

Comparing Sigmund Freud s Life And Breuer
While Freud was a medical student he was introduced to Josef Breuer through physiologist Ernst
Brucke. Josef Breuer eventually became friends with Freud and later on introduced Freud to
Wilhelm Fliess. Fliess and Breuer were two influential individuals in Freud s life and Breuer greatly
influenced the development of psychoanalysis. Josef Breuer was a Viennese physician who used
hypnotism to treat hysteria and eventually Freud also used hypnosis to treat his own patients which
helped him form his ideas on unconscious desires. Freud adopted Breuer s cathartic method in the
treatment of his own patients and it was here that he developed his ideas about the role of
unconscious conflicts in hysteria and other forms of neurosis in great depth ... Show more content

A passing Christian knocked his cap off while telling him to get out of the way and expressing
how much he disliked Jews. Instead of standing up to the Christian, Freud s father just moved
out of the way and retrieved his cap from the ground. After hearing this story Freud was greatly
affected because he lost confidence in his father as a role model. Freud later based his Oedipus
Complex theory off of Sophocles s play Oedipus the King. The story was similar to his father s
story only in the play when the main character is told to move off the road by the king the
character instead retaliates and murders the king. The Oedipus Complex is a child s desire for
sexual involvement with either the mother or the father depending on the child s gender followed
by rivalry with the parent of the same sex (Breger, 2012). The Oedipal theory somewhat combines
Freud s longing for his mother s attention and his contempt for his father. Freud did not want to
apply his patient s traumatic experiences to himself so instead he applied his own experiences to
his patients through this Oedipal

Zechariah Is The Doctrine Of End Times
One of the major themes of the book of Zechariah is Old Testament Eschatology. Eschatology is
the doctrine of end times, or the study of last things. Zechariah s message is divided into three
main sections. The first section, chapters 1 8, is considered apocalyptic and is filled with eight
visions succeeding one another in one night. The second section, chapters 7 8, delivered two
years later, are an answer to the question whether the days of fasting and mourning for the
destruction of the city should be kept any longer, and an assurance to the people of God s
presence and blessing. The third and final section, chapters 9 14, consists of two oracles. The
first oracle (9 11) addresses God s dealings with His people. The second oracle (12 14) points out
the final conflict and triumph of God s kingdom. In the first section, Zechariah details a series of
eight supernatural visions the Lord reveals to Him. These visions are apocalyptic in nature and
are communicated to encourage the people to finish rebuilding the Temple, which at that point
was five months into reconstruction. These visions are given to relay hope for the people s
future and the future of the city of the Temple, Jerusalem. The first vision (1:7 17) consists of
four angelic riders on four horses of various colors. The angelic rider on the red horse dismounts
his horse in the middle of a grove of myrtle trees. Zechariah asks the meaning of this vision and the
angel of the Lord responds. The horses and riders

A Man For All Seasons By Robert Bolt
The book A Man for All Seasons, by Robert Bolt is a play written to teach us a few important
lessons about life. He wrote A Man for All Seasons in 1960, and the play was mounted on the
London stage that same year and in New York in 1961. The themes that Bolt uses in writing this
play are moral values, self, friendship, and corruption. Moral values are when a character respects
his own opinion about something. Self and friendship are the relationships built between characters
and how that affects the play. Overall, the most important theme of this play is corruption.
Corruption is dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.
Throughout the play, Bolt incorporates corruption in many ways and through many characters.
Some characters that Bolt expresses corruption in is Richard Rich, Matthew, and William Roper.
The main character in the play is Thomas More, an English lawyer, social philosopher, author,
statesman, and for a short period of time, Lord Chancellor of England. Thomas More is viewed
as saint like by the people that new him. More is given the responsibility to decide whether or
not King Henry VIII and his wife Catherine could get a divorce. King Henry was allowed to get
married to Catherine, even though she was his brother s wife, because the judge bent the rules for
him. King Henry is now asking for a divorce because he wants to birth a male child, which
Catherine can not give him. While this is happening, Richard Rich is Thomas

Criminal and Civil Law in the English Legal System Essay
One of the main differences between criminal cases and civil cases is that they are held in
different courts, this is because there is a significant distinction between a civil wrong and a
criminal wrong. Crimes are considered to be a type of wrongdoing, however civil wrongs tend to
have only an impact on the parties involved in the case. For example: a breach of contract. Where
as criminal wrongs tend to have an impact on society itself. For example: a murder, theft or rape.
Criminal law is dealt with in the Magistrates court and if very serious in the Crown court. It is
said to be more difficult to win a case in the Magistrates court and Crown court than in a civil court
as in a magistrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magistrates also determine, subject to appeal, whether the defendant should be kept in custody
pending trial. Magistrates can impose conditions to meet their concerns about granting bail. Courts
have limited information on which to base bail decisions, with the exception of experimental bail
information schemes involving the probation service. Normally prosecutors and sometimes defence
lawyers make representations as to whether bail should be granted or not. There is a high degree of
correlation between prosecutors representations and magistrates decisions. One problem the society
has with magistrates is that sections of the community are underrepresented in the lay magistracy.
The lay magistracy remains predominately white, middle aged, middle class and conservative.
The other court of trial for a criminal case is the Crown Court. Indictable offences like murder
can only be dealt with in this court and also triable offences for example, all theft cases. An
accused has the absolute right of trial in the Crown Court but if he/she elects summary trial the
magistrates may decline to hear the case. Even if they do they may commit a convicted person to
the Crown Court for sentence if they believe their own sentencing proves to be inadequate. Three
types of judges sit in the court High Court Judges, circuit judges and recorders. The latter are part
time and hear the less serious

Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Commercial...
5.1 Critical Analysis
International commercial arbitration has evolved, primarily, against the background of two
unifying international traditions: the private international legal tradition, directed at the
harmonization of laws; and the public international law tradition, committed to reducing global
barriers to trade. International Commercial arbitration is the most widely used tool for resolution of
trade or commercial disputes. The effort should be made to tackle the problems which will benefit
commercial transaction activities. Most of the domestic courts were very slow in dealing with
Arbitration cases. Therefore, parties now resort to Arbitration in order to avoid lengthy and
complex litigation procedure.
The Study findings revealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A practical solution to avoid this issue is to include an Immunity Waiver Clause in the arbitration
agreement. States are generally not comfortable with this clause; however, this puts an obligation
on the state to not use this as a defence during enforcement of awards. Once any State agrees to
arbitration, it is an assumed principle that the State has waived its Sovereign Immunity. Under
International Conventions like New York Convention, if the state enters into an agreement, it is
treated as if the State has waived its Immunity and can be taken up as strong evidence against the
State. The situation is difficult as national courts (dealing with enforcement of awards) refuse to
build up special rules and regulations for the enforcement of arbitral awards and they are guided
by the principles applicable in judicial proceedings . Therefore it is probable on some occasions for
litigants to conquer the hindrance that are present while enforcing an award against

Essay On Kettle Bottom
In the book Kettle Bottom there are three sections divided, with several different narrators. The
narrators appear and disappear throughout the book. One of the poems stood out, which pertained
an exchange of letters between two sisters. During this time period women were often disregarded,
and were looked down upon. Fisher including the women in Kettle Bottom, displays her gratitude
and how she is sympathetic towards the women. Throughout Kettle Bottom, there is a collection of
poems titled My Dearest Hazel. The My Dearest Hazel collection was the most intriguing to me as
it included the Appalachian women and their hardships. The poems specifically focuses in on a
young woman Hazel. Each poems shows letters chronologically between... Show more content on

I believe that the Appalachian women were exhilarating and independent women, that should
have never been overlooked, just as it is displayed. I found this piece so interesting as Fisher dug
deeper into the women, making them appear more in depth. In the second appearance of My
Dearest Hazel, the sister is writing to Hazel, following up with her. At this point her sister has
observed that Hazel is pregnant and it is also now known to the readers that Hazel married
Turely. As her sister stated, I afeared that s what it was, Hazel, when I see you at the wedding,
looking so pale and peaked. Her sister explains her fear for Hazel and that most people are stuck
living in tents. Her fear is that she will end up living the same. Her sister states, You get ready,
honey / Cart all your canned goods up to Momma s, your quilts, / your pretty dishes them Baldwin
Felts / break things up when they put people out / and you will need / to hang onto whatever you
can (Fisher, 27).
The chance Turly not surviving from working in the coal mine, and the fear of marriage not
working with a child makes Hazel s sister concerned. She wants Hazel to cherish the things she
already has, before she loses then. I found this poem so intriguing as Hazel s pregnancy was not
something celebrated but something feared. Pregnancy is typically an exciting time for a woman,
but in this situation was something not recommended. The last poem in the

Interdependence On Canada
Canada has always been dependent on the United States Pierre Trudeau once said, Living next to
you (the United States) is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly
and even tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt. This
saying gives a deep understanding of what Canadas relationship with the States was like. The U.S.
is a country that has flourished throughout history and Canada was right behind. The U.S has
almost 10 times more the population than Canada. So, Canada has depended on the U.S for simple
things such as getting tourists from them to visit Canada. It is evident that Canada s dependence on

The isolationism policy was an approach to not get involved in any world affairs. This was initially
used by the United States during the Great Depression. However, Canada was so dependent on the
U.S. that they used the same policy. Another example of their dependence on the U.S. was during
the Vietnam War. Canada depended on the U.S. by selling 2.7 billion dollars of war materials so
that it would help them financially. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), is a great
example of how Canada depended on the U.S. Both the countries were afraid of the Soviet Union
attacking, so NATO helped with Canada and the U.S coming together to protect themselves from
the Soviet Union from attacking. If Canada wasn t dependant on the States, they would have dealt
with the conflicts they had with the Soviet Union on their own. The U.S has a great effect on

Social Role Valorisation is also evident in society in terms of adults who are incarcerated. Social
role valorisation is a term used as to how people are devalued, assigned low value roles, and
treated poorly, often to the extent of risk to their own lives. Wolfensberger states This poor
treatment is given to any group which is given low value by powerful forces in society.
The community, those who do the right thing and follow the law, want to feel protected and safe.
The issue surrounding those who have been incarcerated worry about prisoner s release. This
creates another issue for those who have served their time to be looked down upon by the
community.
In relation to Human rights there has been major reforms within the prisons system. According to
United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime a central argument for reforms is the Human Rights
argument and they also state however The detrimental impact of imprisonment, not only on

Multiple Sclerosis Report
Worldwide, more than 2.3 million people are currently affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This
condition is a life long, potentially debilitating disease of the central nervous system (CNS)
(Pasquier, 2014, 537). Specifically, it is a chronic auto immune disease that attacks the central
nervous system. Furthermore, the person s own immune system does not recognize the neurons
and attacks the myelin, and the nerve fibers it covers and protects. The myelin then creates scar
tissue which causes damage and keeps the nerve impulses in the neuronfrom being able to travel to
the brainor the spinal cord. If this occurs, bodily functions become difficult or impossible because

What patients experience due to this disease are a range of physical and cognitive problems.
According to Bonafede (2013), these symptoms may include difficulty with balance, muscle
coordination, memory, concentration, vision and speech. Moreover, they may come and go or
become progressively worse, which will end up hindering the person s abilities and productivity.
Until recently, the major course of therapy only included the use of steroids, due to their
immunosuppressive qualities; however, now several new compounds have been developed and
approved, in hopes to change the course of the disease (Tavazzi, 2014, 833). Current available
treatments include steroids and Glatiramer acetate, Natalizumab, and Fingolimod. The first,
suppresses the immune system to reduce the inflammatory response, thus avoiding the immune
cells from entering the central nervous system. However, long term use of steroids puts the patient
at risk for infection or hypertension; so, during the use of these drugs one must make into account
if the benefits outweigh the risk. The latter, is a synthetic amino acid polymer resembling myelin
basic protein, delivered via injection (Tavazzi, 2014, 833). To be more specific, it is thought to set
the immune system so as not to attack the myelin, so as to reduce its scarring and damage to the
CNS. It has been shown to be safe and well tolerated. Some

Government Apologies In Canada
In A Sorry State by Mitch Miagawa, Brian Mulroney is quoted as saying, Apologies are the only
way to cleanse the past. There is controversy surrounding whether this quotation can be taken as
truth or fiction. Government apologies have become a very common staple in Canadian society,
and in my opinion, have been drained of their meaning. Mulroney s statement is simply not
reflective of the values and beliefs of majority of Canadians. Words cannot and will not accurately
heal and reconcile all affected parties.
Brian Mulroney implies that apologies are the only way to move forward. Referring to his apology

the healing process, he continues by voicing that No apology, no words, and certainly no time in
parliament will give healing. Likewise, apologies cannot re write the past, let alone cleanse the
past. It is crucial to not part with history, and to positively re build trust and relationships, therefor
making both ends meet. Reconciliation must take place by educating other generations. In other
words, the government must not just say sorry, they must be sorry. When discriminatory and
prejudiced behaviours take place, it is obvious that apologies are more of a formality than a
genuine expression of regret. Full closure may never be reached, nor will an apology alleviate pain
experienced by those who are negatively

Reflection Paper On Final Reflection
Personal Reaction and Reflection Journal Final Response
Final Reaction
In the beginning of this film, it appears these men were struggling to be truthful and honest. They
were making sure it was a safe place to do so. They all came to discuss their experiences and learn
from other men s experiences. As the film went on I was impressed by their ability to continue to
talk about the hard topics related to racism in our country. They all took many risks to explain their
experience and question when other members thoughts were inaccurate within the group setting.
After watching the rest of the color of fear I have seen a big change in everyone in the group,
especially David Christensen.
I believe that this film as a whole is so powerful and looks at many different perspectives of how
racism and oppression can affect everyone around us. As I mentioned before we all experience
privileges and oppression, but everyone experiences these in different ways as we learned when
reading about the addressing model. By the end of this documentary, we saw so many different
types of oppressions related to within group and between group differences. They were powerful
messages because they explained how both concepts influenced and allowed the cycle of oppression
to continue in our society.
The take home message I received is that racism and prejudice will not stop from having a few
discussions, but this can help to us as a society and as counselors to become more aware of these
concepts.

Susan Glaspell s A Jury Of Her Peers And Flannery O ...
The oppression of women has occurred all throughout history across the world in the thousands
of years that patriarchy has existed. During recent times as social standards have progressed, the
voices of women are heard more often than long ago. Nonetheless, it is often overlooked that
women of decades before used their voices in other ways in order to speak out against
oppression. One of the ways these women did this was in their literary writing. Despite the
progress made today to stand up against oppression of women, there is much that can be learned
by looking back at problematic situations portrayed by women writers of the 19th and 20th
centuries. Out of all of the texts written by women only three will be discussed; Rebecca
Harding Davis s Life in the Iron Mills, Susan Glaspell s A Jury of Her Peers and Flannery O
Connor s Good Country People, in which specific symbols are used as representations of the
ways in which women were oppressed and how important it is to study these texts today. By
narrowing down the number of literary texts to three as well as discussing only one literary
device from each, one can begin to understand the importance of learning about the American
women s literary tradition. Beginning with Rebecca Harding Davis s Life in the Iron Mills,
readers can find within the text a clear oppression of lower class peoples that is also an indirect
oppression of women as lower class individuals. Davis tells this story with a man named Hugh
Wolfe as her main

Analysis Of The Film Dead Man Walking
Introduction The theoretical perspective I found most convincing when analyzing the behavior
of the main character, Mathew Poncelot, in the film, Dead Man Walking, are the ideologies of
sociologist Max Weber. He believed that rather than only focusing on one s social actions, it is
instead important to understand why people do the things that they do (Long Crowell).
Empathizing with individuals and identifying their perspectives explains one s rationales behind
each choice and behavior (Long Crowell). By gaining an understanding of an individual s point
of view, we can make sense of their reality and how their perceptions affect their role in our
world (DuBose, 2015). Weber s theory supports that Poncelot s behaviors can be explained by
evaluating the rationale behind the factors that influenced and affected the choices he made. His
childhood experiences, family values, education level, social class, and economic status were
crucial factors when explaining why he became the person he was. Furthermore, the combination
of Poncelot s thoughts and actions were based on the experiences and social interactions he
encountered. Throughout this analysis, I will reflect on the various theoretical perspectives
discussed this semester and what I have learned from each of these concepts. I will address why I
found Weber s theory most convincing and apply connections between theories as they relate to
understanding social problems and the values of daily social work practices.

The Ten Commandments
The purpose of this paper is to examine three of the Ten Commandments. The focus will be on the
strengths and weakness of first, second, and fourth commandment, as well as a which
commandment should be rewritten for the 21st century Christian. The First Amendment of the
United States Constitution protects the right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression
from government interference. The Freedom of Expression consisted of the rights to freedom of
speech, press, assembly and to petition the government for a redress of grievances, and the implied
rights of association and belief. The Supreme Court then explains the extent of the protection
afforded to these rights, the Court has also explained the First Amendment as applying to the entire

The Fourth Amendment also lengthens further security by demanding that warrants be issued
and empowered by law to allow a search and seizure. Furthermore, a warrant will only be
distributed if probable cause can be proven. The fourth Amendment gives for extra requirements
and protection of citizens due to the misuse of the writ of assistance during the American
Colonial Period. The writ of assistance was a type of general search warrant that was employed
by tax collectors to search the homes of the colonists and seize goods, which was commonly
misused and the collectors would often just take what they pleased. Lastly, with rewriting the
Fourth Amendment should state that searches of persons and properties shall be conducted only
when the person or owner of the said property is well notified and informed. Seizures of
properties shall have acceptable permission from the court and written notice provided to the
owner of said property defining to what property is to be seized. In conclusion, there are so many
draw backs and benefits when it comes to the constitution. However, when it comes to rewriting the
constitution not everyone will agree. Some will say rewriting the constitution may be secret sauce
that society needs to fully understand the message it is trying to deliver, while on the other hand
some would consider it to be

Hypothesis: Dissolve time has a direct negative correlation to temperature.
Experimental Method: Polyethylene glycol 3350(PEG) was placed in water in order to measure
the amount of time it took for the PEG to dissolve. The amount of both PEG and water were the

How Does Bronte Use Weather In Wuthering Heights
Throughout the novel Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte uses weather and other natural
phenomena to further explain the events that are happening in the plot. Whenever a major event
is occurring, Bronte also writes about the weather at that time. She corresponds these events
based on their tone and severity. If an event is very grave and serious, Bronte would choose a
thunderstorm or rain, while if an event were to be happy and cheerful, she would choose a sunny
day. When little Hareton was born, Bronte describes the morning of a fine June day (Bronte, 64),
letting the reader know that the morning of this happy occasion was filled with sunlight and
warmth. Only a few pages later, a rainstorm emphasizes an angry outburst between Catherine and
Nelly. The two events have a very distinctive tone; a birth is a celebration of new life, while the
argument between Nelly and Catherine had severe consequences. Bronte did not necessarily go into
large detail about what the weather was like, but she was sure to mention it in order to give the
reader another hint about the plot.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Emily Dickinson Diction
Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye. Emily Dickinson s great poem, Much
Madness is Divinest, expresses the true rebellious persona that Dickinson was from within and the
sense of frustration she had at being a very intelligent woman living during a time where men
were the much dominant. The poet uses this poem to reflect the anger she felt (although she was
said to be very reserved and quiet spoken) towards the society she lived in. When it came to
putting down her feelings on paper, Dickinson did not hold back. In her work Dickinson utilizes the
concept of slant rhyme, a wide ranged use of diction, and tone setting to give us her thoughts in
concern to the society that she much resented. Dickinson employs slant rhyme to emphasize the
true madness in society. Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye; much sense the
starkest madness. The use of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was that the madness that they so much feared, if fully embraced, could be a magnificent quality.
It could allow a person to see things that many others denied the existence of. Dickinson with her
diverse and creative use of words suggests that society was comprised of commonness which was
the actual true madness. The act of living one s life in conformity of the expectations of others,

The article by Valerie Reed Hickman is, Clarissa and the Coolies Wives: Mrs. Dalloway Figuring

The argument Hickman claims in response to Mrs. Dalloway is [the] absence of [an] encounter

Clarissa s party seems to do what she set out to do which was to break down the walls of
Imperialism. Meanwhile, Hickman addresses the loss of two characters of Smith and an old
lady. Then Clarissa imagines what Smith and the old lady went through. Never worries about the
Indian women. Hickman then discusses Peter and the caricature of Imperialism he simply is for
the book. Peter only misses being in India because they follow the traditions of Imperialism.
Hickman explains that no other mention of Indians is offered by Woolf. Hickman uses a two
other author s interpretation of the total disregard Woolf has for transnational feminists. Even
going far as using Jane Marcus to mock A Room of One s Own failure to adequately give voice to
the black woman (Hickman 60). Including some material from Coolies by Mulk Raj Anand.
Hickman changes tactics with the explanation that it is possible for transnational feminists rights
can be heard in fiction. Then contradicting herself, she states that there is no real representation of
transnational women in a text. Gayatri Spivak s point on that subaltern women are always spoken
for by others whether or not they are part of the British Empire. Subaltern women can become
transnational feminist but they require to gain a voice before the healing can begin. Hickman
includes the use of an example where an Imperialist wants to give voice to subaltern woman. The

Pros And Cons Of The Patriot Act
USA PATRIOT Act: Better Sorry than Safe
In today s society, you are always being watched. The USA PATRIOT Act wants it to stay that way.
According to Chris Plante in, A Short, Crucial Explanation of the USA PATRIOT Act and USA
Freedom Act, the USA PATRIOT Act, or the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing
Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct TerrorismAct of 2001, creates an, [...]
expansion of government power pertaining to domestic surveillance, law enforcement, and border
security. (The Verge). The USA PATRIOT Act
allows increased spying on citizens in the United
States in order to decrease crime and terrorism. The Patriot Act Poll Results via ISideWith tell a
story of a lack of understanding about the USA PATRIOT Act, however, with approximately 55%
of Americans supporting the act. However, despite the belief it is a well regulated, necessary act,
the USA PATRIOT Act must be repealed due to the abuses the act allows, the violations of citizens
rights, and the inefficiency of the act in preventing crime and terrorism.
One common idea many Americans have is that the USA Patriot Act keeps them safe. Even
Robert Mueller, the former director of the FBI, believed having such an act in place prior to 9
/11 could have prevented the attacks (CBS News). He further explained that having the act in
place at the time could have tracked the phone of one of the terrorists that carried out the attacks.
He implies here that the information from the act is vital in protecting the country from terrorism
attacks. Another belief is that the USA PATRIOT Act has strict safeguards in place to prevent
abuses of power, according to a New York Times article from Nathan A. Sales. Sales suggests the
USA PATRIOT Act is a safe and well restricted act. Ultimately, however, this is not the case.
First, the USA PATRIOT Act allows for multiple abuses of power. It allows for so many, in fact,
that the American Civil Liberties Union was able to compile a list of the Top Ten Abuses of Power
Since 9/11. In this list, they point out that, [...] the National Security Agency was tapping into

their name. SeaWorld is an attraction that has been in the United States for many years, and
although it provides great entertainment for individuals and their families, it also is a place where

The Effects Of Lead On Human Population
The effects of lead in the human population have been an issue since the early civilizations
because lead was found in almost every item used for eating and cooking. In the 1950 s, houses
were built and the first choice for plumbing pipes was made of lead. The paint used to cover the
interiors was lead based. Children s toys were also coated with lead based paint. Nowadays, lead
can still be found in some glassware; however, the government has banned the use of lead in the
rest. Lead can be introduced into the body through inhalation or skin contact. However, ingestion of
lead is the most common way of it being transported into the body. There are a few symptoms that
are caused by lead poisoning in the gastrointestinal tract: stomachpain, weight loss, decreased
appetite, constipation, diarrhea, unusual taste in the mouth, and a blue line around the gum line.
The two problems that occur with these symptoms are that they can be misconstrued as symptoms
for other diseases, such as appendicitis. These symptoms occur only when lead is at high
concentration in the body. Being the foremost pathway for intake, absorption in very dependent on

Women s Role In Ancient Civilizations
The environment had a large part in shaping early human history and civilizations. The peoples of
the Paleolithic era were generally hunter gatherer nomadic peoples that traveled out of Sub Saharan
Africa looking for better food supply and environments. The Neolithic Era gave rise to human
settlement and the beginning of human civilization. The first civilizations settled between the Tigris
and Euphrates rivers around the area that would later be called the Fertile Crescent because of its
plentiful in cereal crops, water, and animals that could be domesticated. A civilization such as

The Byzantine Empire ruled by Hammurabi did not see women as equal to men. Hammurabi s
Codes gave women some rights, but they were not completely equal to men. For example, one of
the codes allows a woman accused of cheating on her husband to merely swear she did not do it
and go back home. On the other hand a woman who is convicted of neglecting their husband may,
if her husband wishes, be forced to stay in his house as a servant while he is remarried.
Sparta, a militant society in Ancient Greece, allowed women more freedoms than any of the
other Greek city states. Women were able to educate themselves, have physical training, and own

empire allowed women to keep their property both before and after their marriage, and according
to Islamic scripture women were made at the same time as man, meaning that they are equal to a

the continued spread of Islam led to more conservative values and essentially the imbalanced
treatment of women. Through examining each of these civilizations, it can be inferred that pre
modern civilizations generally had varying ideas of what the role of women should be in

A New World Order For The United States
A New World Order
The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst
for an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world.
Technological advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of
the world, therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy
would eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European
continent. However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to
establish itself as the leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to
attempt to create a new, less conflict ridden global order. Though World War Iset the stage for the
United States to assume a global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war,
it is not to say that the United States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first
place. I argue that the U. S. failures to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series
of actions and events beginning at the turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible
to avoid joining either war once they began.

Research Proposal On Hydroelectric Generator
Science Fair Proposal
Edward Montanez
Everman Joe C.Bean High School
Abstract
A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the
hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. I
will be constructing my own hydroelectric generator in order to show it is possible to create
electricity using large volumes of water, enough power to light a light bulb.
Background
Making Electricity and Hydroelectric Generators
Electricity is the flow of electrons through a metal wire, or through a conductor. Electrons are tiny
particles found in atoms, and is also one of the building blocks of all matter. Electrons carry tiny
negative charges, when they move through a conductor they produce a little invisible magnetic
force. The strength depends on how in motion the electrons are. Pushing the electrons a little closer
and tighter can cause a stronger field. When electrons produce a magnet force, you can use a
magnet to make the electrons mover which is how an hydroelectric generator works.
A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the
hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. For
more than 100 years the simplest way to produce the volumes of falling water needed to make
electricity was to use dams to create electricity. But sometimes dams

She was born in Chicago May 19, 1930 in Chicago, and she grew up in the Woodlawn
neighborhood in the South side of Chicago. Her parents were well known civil rights activists;
Carl Hansberry (her father) and Nannie Hansberry (her mother). When she was 8 years old, she and
her family moved into a white neighborhood, where they experienced violence and antagonism...

Even though people of color had more freedom in Chicago than those who lived more in the South,
they still struggled to find their place living there; they lived in their own communities away from
whites with very few opportunities to make lives for themselves.
Living conditions weren t very ideal. In an excerpt from How We Built the Ghettos James Boulie
has written, Many blacks lived in apartments that lacked plumbing, with only one bathroom for
each floor. In the play A Raisin in the Sun, Mama and her family shared their bathroom with
neighbors and they had a system for who would use the bathroom at certain times. Boulie has also
written, With the buildings so overcrowded, building inspections and garbage collection were
below the minimum mandatory requirements for healthy sanitation. This unhealthiness increased
the threat of disease. This is most likely why mama had always been cleaning and taking care of
the home they lived in. Not only were the living conditions awful, but the opportunities to move
into nicer places were even worse. In the History of African Americans in Chicago, on Wikipedia, it
was written that, Redlining is the practice of denying key services (like home loans and
insurance) or increasing their costs for residents in a defined geographical area. When it came to a
colored person trying to move into a white neighborhood, it usually didn t end very well. As a child

Nuclear Bomb Debate
Ever since nuclear weapons were invented, the world has been strict about their usage and
manufacturing. USA, having the most number of operational nuclear warheads (Macais) has been
most vocal about who should can manufacture and store nuclear weapons. But one should not
forget that there has only been one recorded incident of nuclear weapons being used in combat
and that was when USA dropped 2 of its nuclear bombs on Japan, one in Nagasaki and one in
Hiroshima.
Japan had almost lost the world war II and both, USA and Japan knew it. Japan, however, decided
to keep on fighting. This course of action made the allied nervous. The estimated causalities on
both sides were too high and USA was already wounded due to the skirmish with the Germans. ...

People argue that the bombs were made for defense purpose only. .... the atomic bomb was built
as a defensive weapon, not an offensive one. It was intended to be a deterrent .... To bolster their
argument, these critics point out that ever since WWII, the weapon has been used only as a
deterrent. From 1949 1991 the Cold War, ..... Korea (while Truman was still in office), Vietnam,
Iraq, and Afghanistan, nuclear weapons were never again deployed. In other words, not using them
in those wars has been an admission that they should never have been used offensively in the first
place. (Barnes)
The usage of bombs was also called an illegal act. The League of Nations had made a resolution
which basically said that the use of chemical or bacterial methods in the conduct of war is
contrary to international law. (Barnes). However, bomb supporters argue that since the United
States had never been a part of the League, the rules didn t apply. Also, the league had been
disbanded in 1939, long before the atomic bomb was even

Mapinfo Data Report
11 I utilized the Mapinfo Professional software for the analysing the spatial data of the new
location site. Moreover, this software helped me to provide 3D dimensional view of the terrain
land and also rotating as well as magnifying the projected maps. I correlated the Google earth
which produce earth based satellites maps and photographs for getting more information about
neighbouring BTS towers nearby the new location. CE1.12 I updated the mapping functionality
and survey reports using the Crystal reports. The Crystal reports, is a third party software used for
creating reports directly from the Mapinfo database, in the form of tabular data form. CE1.13 I

In the simulation software, a tool named Signal Distribution was used for analysis of RF signal.
I used the following formula for manually calculating the channel interference of two APs:
channel interference = (90+P) x 100/60, where P was the signal Power and swapped the
corresponding signal power to determine the strength of the interference of one other. CE1.18
For pre deployment survey report, I always updated the data and measurements and directly
reported to Team leader regarding the progress and updates. Pre deployment survey report was
basic survey report for the designing and implementing the Radio Network Design (RND). CE
1.19 I created a virtual RF environment using a RF modelling tool called AirMagnet planner. I
installed a single AP in the location site and simulated different virtual APs on the floor plan
based on the Mapinfo software to estimate the expected coverage. Based on the spatial report of
the survey provided by the Mapinfo, I analysed the spatial terrain feature of the new BTS site.
The virtual implementation of BTS cell site on Mapinfo is given below CE1.20 Three virtual
sectors (Usually each sectors uses 60 degree angle projection) were implemented on the antenna
and each sector is shown in different colour based on the design. In the above figure, light green
shows the area covered by the light green sector and so on. The coverage of the each sector can
increase or decreased based on the frequency given to each of them. The design and

Homecoming Dance
During the year, Student Council members have been behind the scenes of events like
Homecoming week and the blood drives. Student Council is in charge of a lot of different
activities you see, for example the homecoming dance, the snowball dance, the blood drive, they
organize, plan it, come up with a theme, and then decorate the events, Rudebusch .Said We
basically do most of everything during Homecoming week, It s a really fun group there s energy
in the room when they get pretty pumped up we sometimes, Aaron Rudebusch, student council
adviser, said. The Homecoming dance Sept. 22 was organized completely by the student council
members. Rudebusch works to organize the council members to give them tasks to get it done. We
show up and Mr. Rudebusch would divide us up and tell you where to go, and what tasks needed
to be finished, Freshman Jack Dent said. The task that took me the longest for the homecoming

those are our main fundraiser aspects, Rudebusch said. Student council might not always have the
funds they need to pull of the tasks they set out to finish. If push comes to shove, they may even
pay out of their own pockets. For funding sometimes we have to get our own money pay
ourselves, sometimes the PTA pays it, we sometimes do concessions, Dent said The members take
their job with pride and enjoy the work they do. The most rewarding part of being in student
council is we get to help our school and do great things for our students, Student Council member

Identify The Different Types Of Retainers
We all know that one day those braces will come off. At that time your orthodontist creates your
new retainer. We all know the retainer is an important part of the teeth straightening process. If you
do not wear the retainer prescribed by your orthodontist, your teeth will go back to their earlier
placement. Your teethwill line up exactly as they looked before you got braces. Your teeth are held
in place by periodontal ligaments. It takes a long time for the periodontal ligaments to adjust when
the teeth are straightened. Therefore, orthodontists created retainers to keep your teeth straight, in
perfect alignment. Basically, your orthodontist has a choice of three different types of retainers As
a patients this is not something you get to choose; the orthodontist chooses the best retainer for
each patient. Some of the retainers are removable and others are permanently attached. Retainers
which are permanently attached can only be removed by the orthodontist.... Show more content on

Through the use of plaster impressions and x rays, the orthodontist determines which retainer
works best for the patient. There are three basic types of retainers. The Hawley retainer is the most
common retainer, preferred by many orthodontists. Molded to fit your mouth, the retainer has a
piece of wire used to keep your teeth in perfect alignment. The acrylic retainer is easily removed. It
can easily be altered or customized; just incase those perfectly aligned teeth start to move out of
alignment. This is the most common retainer, preferred by many

Manorial Trade Network, the Indian Ocean Trade Network,...
Comparing and Contrasting the Manorial Trade Network, the Indian Ocean Trade Network, and the
Trans Saharan Trade Network
The creation of a strong and productive society depends on a stable economy. The development of
extensive trade relations in Africa, Europe, and Asia, was necessary for the existence of the highly
advanced civilizations that exist today. The Trans Saharan trade, Indian Ocean trade, and manorial
trade of Europe in the middle ages were major trading networks that flourished. The Trans Saharan
trade network connected the Mediterranean countries and Northern African countries with Sub
Saharan Africa. The Indian Ocean Trade network stretched from Eastern Africa to China, India,
Persia, and other Asian countries. Manorial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some great city states that benefited from long distance trade were Mali, Ghana, and Songhai.
The standardization of weights, measures, and currencies was one of the most important
outcomes of trade in the Trans Saharan. It was necessary in order for peoples of different
languages, religions, and cultures to communicate and negotiate. The most important facet of the
trade networks is which products are being traded. In the medieval manor the knights and nobles
traded favors such as fixing a building or building a shack or supplying agricultural produce. In
the other trading networks a variety of items were exchanged. The Indian Ocean network was best
known for trading ivory, gold, silks, iron, porcelain, ebony, spices, herbs, jewelry, cotton, animal
hide, and slaves. The Trans Saharan trade exchanged vast quantities of gold, salt, books, cotton,
cloth, horses, guns, leather goods, and slaves. All of these trading networks involved the
participation of slaves although slaves played a different role in each system.
Serfs and slaves had a different position in each of the trade networks. In medieval Europe serfs
were peasants who worked for the lord of the manor. The serfs did all of the laborious work on the
farms in exchange for protection and the right to work the land. This included

The Tragedy Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Essay
Science is a broad field that encompasses many aspects of everyday life and existence. Some areas
of science include the study of the universe, environment, dinosaurs, animals and insects. Another
popular science is the study of people and how they work. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, Dr.
Victor Frankensteinis a scientist who studies inspiring the dead. He wants to be the first person to
give life to a dead human being. all their time to focus on this goal renounces his family and friends
passed, and. When finally this is achieved, everything crumbles. So, Victor Frankenstein is to blame
for the tragedy, not the monster he has created, because he is the mastermind behind the whole
operation, which is supposed to have everything under control, working properly as a good scientist
should do.
Although some critics say the monster Victor has created is to blame for the destruction and
violence following the experiment is Victor, who is the responsible party. First, Victor, being the
scientist, should have known how to do research on the subject much more than what he had done.
It was obvious that he has not thought about the consequences that can result from it, as the
monster going crazy, how do you react monster people and things, and especially the time it will
take to turn the monster in the perfect being normal human. Obviously, this is something that could
take a very long time and a lot of patience, which lacks Victor. All Victor really wants is to be the

  • 2. How Does Writing Change Over Time Writing has changed a lot over the years. The hot topics fade and new ones replace them. From early America to 1870 there was not many changes in the topics because there was not as many people as there are now. There was only three considerable changes to writing styles and topics. The writing styles and topics over the years have changed from myths, to God, and finally to individualism. Writingstarted off as myths. There are four functions of a myth. The myth must include all of creation, day to day function of the world, support customs/rituals, and how to deal with trials and tribulations. An example of a myth is The World On The Turtle s Back. That myth was written by the Iroquois and was about how the world was created. Their myths were generally communicated orally. The myth talked about a heaven where the gods lived. One became curious and fell into the underworld. The woman... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was in play when the Puritans came over and settled in America. They tried to be godly and always do the correct thing. An example of this type of writing is The Crucible. The Crucible is a play written about a true event. These godly people did not like witches. They thought that witches were possessed by the devil so they killed them. They thought they were doing the right thing, but some people took advantage of it. Those girls were ungodly, but everyone thought they were godly. The Puritans thought that children were innocent (they never lied). That is not the case and these ungodly children took advantage and twisted these people s minds. Some people were godly and did the right thing but most people were not, even though that is what they thought they were doing. Those people thought that they were ridding Salem of the devil and allowing God back in but what they were really doing was pushing God out and opening the door for the devil. • 3. Similarities Between Zelda And Jay In The Great Gatsby The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is an autobiography. Many of Fitzgerald s personal circumstances and experiences are portrayed in the novel and movie very similar to Fitzgerald s life. Fitzgerald writes about what he envisions about himself through the character of Gatsby and Nick. If the novel is looked at from a point of view of Gatsby, it is clearly shown that the character portrays experiences from Fitzgerald s life through biographical and historical events. Many of Fitzgerald s experiences are incorporated into Jay Gatsby. Like Jay, Fitzgerald as a boy rejected the circumstances of his own birth. Nick is a truthful man within a bunch of liars. Nick moves to New York to make his own money selling bonds. Tom and Daisy are both cheating on each other with different people along with Myrtle. Gatsby lies about his life to fit in with other people. Nick is the only one who does not lie to himself. Fitzgerald was truthful to himself, when he published books he did not say he was famous to fit in with other people. Nick heads east seeking his own fortune and not to be given one. Nicks moral sense is also like Fitzgerald s, at the beginning Nick starts to interact with the others and is not like them at all. He is set off to be more practical, down to earth person. This is evident in chapter two when he does not know how to respond to Tom and Myrtle s secret life. Fitzgerald was also a down to earth person who was realistic. He told his wife that she should stay with him because of an educated guess that he was going to make money off of his books. • 4. Comparing Sigmund Freud s Life And Breuer While Freud was a medical student he was introduced to Josef Breuer through physiologist Ernst Brucke. Josef Breuer eventually became friends with Freud and later on introduced Freud to Wilhelm Fliess. Fliess and Breuer were two influential individuals in Freud s life and Breuer greatly influenced the development of psychoanalysis. Josef Breuer was a Viennese physician who used hypnotism to treat hysteria and eventually Freud also used hypnosis to treat his own patients which helped him form his ideas on unconscious desires. Freud adopted Breuer s cathartic method in the treatment of his own patients and it was here that he developed his ideas about the role of unconscious conflicts in hysteria and other forms of neurosis in great depth ... Instead of standing up to the Christian, Freud s father just moved out of the way and retrieved his cap from the ground. After hearing this story Freud was greatly affected because he lost confidence in his father as a role model. Freud later based his Oedipus Complex theory off of Sophocles s play Oedipus the King. The story was similar to his father s story only in the play when the main character is told to move off the road by the king the character instead retaliates and murders the king. The Oedipus Complex is a child s desire for sexual involvement with either the mother or the father depending on the child s gender followed by rivalry with the parent of the same sex (Breger, 2012). The Oedipal theory somewhat combines Freud s longing for his mother s attention and his contempt for his father. Freud did not want to apply his patient s traumatic experiences to himself so instead he applied his own experiences to his patients through this Oedipal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Zechariah Is The Doctrine Of End Times One of the major themes of the book of Zechariah is Old Testament Eschatology. Eschatology is the doctrine of end times, or the study of last things. Zechariah s message is divided into three main sections. The first section, chapters 1 8, is considered apocalyptic and is filled with eight visions succeeding one another in one night. The second section, chapters 7 8, delivered two years later, are an answer to the question whether the days of fasting and mourning for the destruction of the city should be kept any longer, and an assurance to the people of God s presence and blessing. The third and final section, chapters 9 14, consists of two oracles. The first oracle (9 11) addresses God s dealings with His people. The second oracle (12 14) points out the final conflict and triumph of God s kingdom. In the first section, Zechariah details a series of eight supernatural visions the Lord reveals to Him. These visions are apocalyptic in nature and are communicated to encourage the people to finish rebuilding the Temple, which at that point was five months into reconstruction. These visions are given to relay hope for the people s future and the future of the city of the Temple, Jerusalem. The first vision (1:7 17) consists of four angelic riders on four horses of various colors. The angelic rider on the red horse dismounts his horse in the middle of a grove of myrtle trees. Zechariah asks the meaning of this vision and the angel of the Lord responds. The horses and riders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He wrote A Man for All Seasons in 1960, and the play was mounted on the London stage that same year and in New York in 1961. The themes that Bolt uses in writing this play are moral values, self, friendship, and corruption. Moral values are when a character respects his own opinion about something. Self and friendship are the relationships built between characters and how that affects the play. The main character in the play is Thomas More, an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and for a short period of time, Lord Chancellor of England. Thomas More is viewed as saint like by the people that new him. More is given the responsibility to decide whether or not King Henry VIII and his wife Catherine could get a divorce. King Henry was allowed to get married to Catherine, even though she was his brother s wife, because the judge bent the rules for him. • 9. Criminal and Civil Law in the English Legal System Essay One of the main differences between criminal cases and civil cases is that they are held in different courts, this is because there is a significant distinction between a civil wrong and a criminal wrong. Crimes are considered to be a type of wrongdoing, however civil wrongs tend to have only an impact on the parties involved in the case. For example: a breach of contract. Where as criminal wrongs tend to have an impact on society itself. For example: a murder, theft or rape. Criminal law is dealt with in the Magistrates court and if very serious in the Crown court. Magistrates also determine, subject to appeal, whether the defendant should be kept in custody pending trial. Magistrates can impose conditions to meet their concerns about granting bail. Courts have limited information on which to base bail decisions, with the exception of experimental bail information schemes involving the probation service. Normally prosecutors and sometimes defence lawyers make representations as to whether bail should be granted or not. There is a high degree of correlation between prosecutors representations and magistrates decisions. One problem the society has with magistrates is that sections of the community are underrepresented in the lay magistracy. The lay magistracy remains predominately white, middle aged, middle class and conservative. The other court of trial for a criminal case is the Crown Court. Indictable offences like murder can only be dealt with in this court and also triable offences for example, all theft cases. An accused has the absolute right of trial in the Crown Court but if he/she elects summary trial the magistrates may decline to hear the case. Even if they do they may commit a convicted person to the Crown Court for sentence if they believe their own sentencing proves to be inadequate. Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Commercial... 5.1 Critical Analysis International commercial arbitration has evolved, primarily, against the background of two unifying international traditions: the private international legal tradition, directed at the harmonization of laws; and the public international law tradition, committed to reducing global barriers to trade. International Commercial arbitration is the most widely used tool for resolution of trade or commercial disputes. The effort should be made to tackle the problems which will benefit commercial transaction activities. Most of the domestic courts were very slow in dealing with Arbitration cases. Therefore, parties now resort to Arbitration in order to avoid lengthy and complex litigation procedure. The Study findings revealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A practical solution to avoid this issue is to include an Immunity Waiver Clause in the arbitration agreement. States are generally not comfortable with this clause; however, this puts an obligation on the state to not use this as a defence during enforcement of awards. Once any State agrees to arbitration, it is an assumed principle that the State has waived its Sovereign Immunity. Under International Conventions like New York Convention, if the state enters into an agreement, it is treated as if the State has waived its Immunity and can be taken up as strong evidence against the State. The situation is difficult as national courts (dealing with enforcement of awards) refuse to build up special rules and regulations for the enforcement of arbitral awards and they are guided by the principles applicable in judicial proceedings . One of the poems stood out, which pertained an exchange of letters between two sisters. During this time period women were often disregarded, and were looked down upon. I found this piece so interesting as Fisher dug deeper into the women, making them appear more in depth. In the second appearance of My Dearest Hazel, the sister is writing to Hazel, following up with her. At this point her sister has observed that Hazel is pregnant and it is also now known to the readers that Hazel married Turely. As her sister stated, I afeared that s what it was, Hazel, when I see you at the wedding, looking so pale and peaked. Her sister explains her fear for Hazel and that most people are stuck living in tents. Her fear is that she will end up living the same. Her sister states, You get ready, honey / Cart all your canned goods up to Momma s, your quilts, / your pretty dishes them Baldwin Felts / break things up when they put people out / and you will need / to hang onto whatever you can (Fisher, 27). The chance Turly not surviving from working in the coal mine, and the fear of marriage not working with a child makes Hazel s sister concerned. This saying gives a deep understanding of what Canadas relationship with the States was like. The U.S. is a country that has flourished throughout history and Canada was right behind. Social role valorisation is a term used as to how people are devalued, assigned low value roles, and treated poorly, often to the extent of risk to their own lives. The community, those who do the right thing and follow the law, want to feel protected and safe. The issue surrounding those who have been incarcerated worry about prisoner s release. This creates another issue for those who have served their time to be looked down upon by the community. In relation to Human rights there has been major reforms within the prisons system. • 16. Analysis Of The Book Elvira Karlene ElviraKarlene Edwards Although the small Idaho town where I grew up had a population of barely eleven hundred people, it wasn t as if we were all alike. My best girlfriend was a Jehovah s Witness, a boy I dated in high school was a Mormon, and the town undertakers were Seventh Day Adventists. The prettiest girlin town s father was black, and down the valley some Japanese farmers owned land, but that was about it, except for the Basque sheepherders who brought their flocks through Long Valley in springtime, and the original Finn settlers, some of whom generations later still spoke the language. I never thought much about how insular we were until the Walkersadopted Elvira from Mexico. The Walkers were friends of my parents and sometimes Mr. Walker worked with Dad on construction jobs. I remember the summer when I was four, Dad and Mr. Walker built Brown s Logging Camp back in the hills and our families lived in tents, and my motherwashed clothes on a washboard, and Mrs. Walker taught me to draw trees. I still have the results, a crayon colored mountain scene that Mother saved in my scrapbook. She also saved the note Mrs. Walker wrote thanking her for sharing me, and describing a picnic we had eaten on a blanket during one of my visits to their home in McCall. As a little girl, I was often invited to Mrs. Walker s, and together we played card games, or took walks in the woods, or made cookies, or played with Lady Lady was a dark haired, fine featured border ... • 17. Multiple Sclerosis Report Worldwide, more than 2.3 million people are currently affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This condition is a life long, potentially debilitating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) (Pasquier, 2014, 537). Specifically, it is a chronic auto immune disease that attacks the central nervous system. Furthermore, the person s own immune system does not recognize the neurons and attacks the myelin, and the nerve fibers it covers and protects. The myelin then creates scar tissue which causes damage and keeps the nerve impulses in the neuronfrom being able to travel to the brainor the spinal cord. If this occurs, bodily functions become difficult or impossible because messages aren t being delivered to or from the organs back to the CNS.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What patients experience due to this disease are a range of physical and cognitive problems. According to Bonafede (2013), these symptoms may include difficulty with balance, muscle coordination, memory, concentration, vision and speech. Moreover, they may come and go or become progressively worse, which will end up hindering the person s abilities and productivity. Until recently, the major course of therapy only included the use of steroids, due to their immunosuppressive qualities; however, now several new compounds have been developed and approved, in hopes to change the course of the disease (Tavazzi, 2014, 833). Current available treatments include steroids and Glatiramer acetate, Natalizumab, and Fingolimod. The first, suppresses the immune system to reduce the inflammatory response, thus avoiding the immune cells from entering the central nervous system. However, long term use of steroids puts the patient at risk for infection or hypertension; so, during the use of these drugs one must make into account if the benefits outweigh the risk. The latter, is a synthetic amino acid polymer resembling myelin basic protein, delivered via injection (Tavazzi, 2014, 833). To be more specific, it is thought to set the immune system so as not to attack the myelin, so as to reduce its scarring and damage to the CNS. It has been shown to be safe and well tolerated. There is controversy surrounding whether this quotation can be taken as truth or fiction. Government apologies have become a very common staple in Canadian society, and in my opinion, have been drained of their meaning. Mulroney s statement is simply not reflective of the values and beliefs of majority of Canadians. Words cannot and will not accurately heal and reconcile all affected parties. Actions speak louder than words and healing is not an easy process, as First Nations journalist James Sinclair describes in his article, To Own Ourselves, Money, resources, and time may help, but none of these will ultimately do the job. Referring to the healing process, he continues by voicing that No apology, no words, and certainly no time in parliament will give healing. Likewise, apologies cannot re write the past, let alone cleanse the past. It is crucial to not part with history, and to positively re build trust and relationships, therefor making both ends meet. Reconciliation must take place by educating other generations. In other words, the government must not just say sorry, they must be sorry. Reflection Paper On Final Reflection Personal Reaction and Reflection Journal Final Response Final Reaction In the beginning of this film, it appears these men were struggling to be truthful and honest. They were making sure it was a safe place to do so. They all came to discuss their experiences and learn from other men s experiences. As the film went on I was impressed by their ability to continue to talk about the hard topics related to racism in our country. They all took many risks to explain their experience and question when other members thoughts were inaccurate within the group setting. After watching the rest of the color of fear I have seen a big change in everyone in the group, especially David Christensen. I believe that this film as a whole is so powerful and looks at many different perspectives of how racism and oppression can affect everyone around us. As I mentioned before we all experience privileges and oppression, but everyone experiences these in different ways as we learned when reading about the addressing model. By the end of this documentary, we saw so many different types of oppressions related to within group and between group differences. They were powerful messages because they explained how both concepts influenced and allowed the cycle of oppression to continue in our society. The take home message I received is that racism and prejudice will not stop from having a few discussions, but this can help to us as a society and as counselors to become more aware of these concepts. ... • 20. Susan Glaspell s A Jury Of Her Peers And Flannery O ... The oppression of women has occurred all throughout history across the world in the thousands of years that patriarchy has existed. During recent times as social standards have progressed, the voices of women are heard more often than long ago. Nonetheless, it is often overlooked that women of decades before used their voices in other ways in order to speak out against oppression. One of the ways these women did this was in their literary writing. Despite the progress made today to stand up against oppression of women, there is much that can be learned by looking back at problematic situations portrayed by women writers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Out of all of the texts written by women only three will be discussed; Rebecca Harding Davis s Life in the Iron Mills, Susan Glaspell s A Jury of Her Peers and Flannery O Connor s Good Country People, in which specific symbols are used as representations of the ways in which women were oppressed and how important it is to study these texts today. By narrowing down the number of literary texts to three as well as discussing only one literary device from each, one can begin to understand the importance of learning about the American women s literary tradition. Beginning with Rebecca Harding Davis s Life in the Iron Mills, readers can find within the text a clear oppression of lower class peoples that is also an indirect oppression of women as lower class individuals. • 22. Analysis Of The Film Dead Man Walking Introduction The theoretical perspective I found most convincing when analyzing the behavior of the main character, Mathew Poncelot, in the film, Dead Man Walking, are the ideologies of sociologist Max Weber. He believed that rather than only focusing on one s social actions, it is instead important to understand why people do the things that they do (Long Crowell). Empathizing with individuals and identifying their perspectives explains one s rationales behind each choice and behavior (Long Crowell). By gaining an understanding of an individual s point of view, we can make sense of their reality and how their perceptions affect their role in our world (DuBose, 2015). Weber s theory supports that Poncelot s behaviors can be explained by evaluating the rationale behind the factors that influenced and affected the choices he made. His childhood experiences, family values, education level, social class, and economic status were crucial factors when explaining why he became the person he was. Furthermore, the combination of Poncelot s thoughts and actions were based on the experiences and social interactions he encountered. Throughout this analysis, I will reflect on the various theoretical perspectives discussed this semester and what I have learned from each of these concepts. I will address why I found Weber s theory most convincing and apply connections between theories as they relate to understanding social problems and the values of daily social work practices. ... The writ of assistance was a type of general search warrant that was employed by tax collectors to search the homes of the colonists and seize goods, which was commonly misused and the collectors would often just take what they pleased. Lastly, with rewriting the Fourth Amendment should state that searches of persons and properties shall be conducted only when the person or owner of the said property is well notified and informed. • 25. How Does Bronte Use Weather In Wuthering Heights Throughout the novel Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte uses weather and other natural phenomena to further explain the events that are happening in the plot. Whenever a major event is occurring, Bronte also writes about the weather at that time. She corresponds these events based on their tone and severity. If an event is very grave and serious, Bronte would choose a thunderstorm or rain, while if an event were to be happy and cheerful, she would choose a sunny day. When little Hareton was born, Bronte describes the morning of a fine June day (Bronte, 64), letting the reader know that the morning of this happy occasion was filled with sunlight and warmth. Only a few pages later, a rainstorm emphasizes an angry outburst between Catherine and Nelly. The two events have a very distinctive tone; a birth is a celebration of new life, while the argument between Nelly and Catherine had severe consequences. Bronte did not necessarily go into large detail about what the weather was like, but she was sure to mention it in order to give the reader another hint about the plot.... Emily Dickinson s great poem, Much Madness is Divinest, expresses the true rebellious persona that Dickinson was from within and the sense of frustration she had at being a very intelligent woman living during a time where men were the much dominant. The poet uses this poem to reflect the anger she felt (although she was said to be very reserved and quiet spoken) towards the society she lived in. When it came to putting down her feelings on paper, Dickinson did not hold back. In her work Dickinson utilizes the concept of slant rhyme, a wide ranged use of diction, and tone setting to give us her thoughts in concern to the society that she much resented. However, despite the belief it is a well regulated, necessary act, the USA PATRIOT Act must be repealed due to the abuses the act allows, the violations of citizens rights, and the inefficiency of the act in preventing crime and terrorism. One common idea many Americans have is that the USA Patriot Act keeps them safe. Even Robert Mueller, the former director of the FBI, believed having such an act in place prior to 9 /11 could have prevented the attacks (CBS News). He further explained that having the act in place at the time could have tracked the phone of one of the terrorists that carried out the attacks. The Effects Of Lead On Human Population The effects of lead in the human population have been an issue since the early civilizations because lead was found in almost every item used for eating and cooking. In the 1950 s, houses were built and the first choice for plumbing pipes was made of lead. The paint used to cover the interiors was lead based. Children s toys were also coated with lead based paint. Nowadays, lead can still be found in some glassware; however, the government has banned the use of lead in the rest. Lead can be introduced into the body through inhalation or skin contact. However, ingestion of lead is the most common way of it being transported into the body. There are a few symptoms that are caused by lead poisoning in the gastrointestinal tract: stomachpain, weight loss, decreased appetite, constipation, diarrhea, unusual taste in the mouth, and a blue line around the gum line. The two problems that occur with these symptoms are that they can be misconstrued as symptoms for other diseases, such as appendicitis. These symptoms occur only when lead is at high concentration in the body. • 36. Women s Role In Ancient Civilizations The environment had a large part in shaping early human history and civilizations. The peoples of the Paleolithic era were generally hunter gatherer nomadic peoples that traveled out of Sub Saharan Africa looking for better food supply and environments. The Neolithic Era gave rise to human settlement and the beginning of human civilization. The first civilizations settled between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers around the area that would later be called the Fertile Crescent because of its plentiful in cereal crops, water, and animals that could be domesticated. A civilization such as Mesopotamia highlighted the relationship between fertile lands and societies. According to Diamond, environments and human societies are intertwined in that human ... Hammurabi s Codes gave women some rights, but they were not completely equal to men. For example, one of the codes allows a woman accused of cheating on her husband to merely swear she did not do it and go back home. On the other hand a woman who is convicted of neglecting their husband may, if her husband wishes, be forced to stay in his house as a servant while he is remarried. Sparta, a militant society in Ancient Greece, allowed women more freedoms than any of the other Greek city states. Women were able to educate themselves, have physical training, and own property. But their general priority was to bear and birth more healthy Spartan males. The Muslim empire allowed women to keep their property both before and after their marriage, and according to Islamic scripture women were made at the same time as man, meaning that they are equal to a man. Women could serve as leaders, warriors, and even generals. But the death of Muhammad and the continued spread of Islam led to more conservative values and essentially the imbalanced treatment of women. • 37. A New World Order For The United States A New World Order The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst for an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world. Technological advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of the world, therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy would eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European continent. However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to establish itself as the leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to attempt to create a new, less conflict ridden global order. Though World War Iset the stage for the United States to assume a global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war, it is not to say that the United States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first place. I argue that the U. S. failures to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series of actions and events beginning at the turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible to avoid joining either war once they began. Samuel Morse s telegraph revolutionized long distance communication, making it possible for near instant communication, even across such a vast space like the Atlantic Ocean. • 38. Research Proposal On Hydroelectric Generator Science Fair Proposal Edward Montanez Everman Joe C.Bean High School Abstract A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. I will be constructing my own hydroelectric generator in order to show it is possible to create electricity using large volumes of water, enough power to light a light bulb. Background Making Electricity and Hydroelectric Generators Electricity is the flow of electrons through a metal wire, or through a conductor. Electrons are tiny particles found in atoms, and is also one of the building blocks of all matter. Electrons carry tiny negative charges, when they move through a conductor they produce a little invisible magnetic force. The strength depends on how in motion the electrons are. Pushing the electrons a little closer and tighter can cause a stronger field. When electrons produce a magnet force, you can use a magnet to make the electrons mover which is how an hydroelectric generator works. A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. For more than 100 years the simplest way to produce the volumes of falling water needed to make electricity was to use dams to create electricity. But sometimes dams ... Even though people of color had more freedom in Chicago than those who lived more in the South, they still struggled to find their place living there; they lived in their own communities away from whites with very few opportunities to make lives for themselves. Living conditions weren t very ideal. In an excerpt from How We Built the Ghettos James Boulie has written, Many blacks lived in apartments that lacked plumbing, with only one bathroom for each floor. In the play A Raisin in the Sun, Mama and her family shared their bathroom with neighbors and they had a system for who would use the bathroom at certain times. Boulie has also written, With the buildings so overcrowded, building inspections and garbage collection were below the minimum mandatory requirements for healthy sanitation. This unhealthiness increased the threat of disease. This is most likely why mama had always been cleaning and taking care of the home they lived in. Not only were the living conditions awful, but the opportunities to move into nicer places were even worse. In the History of African Americans in Chicago, on Wikipedia, it was written that, Redlining is the practice of denying key services (like home loans and insurance) or increasing their costs for residents in a defined geographical area. We all know the retainer is an important part of the teeth straightening process. If you do not wear the retainer prescribed by your orthodontist, your teeth will go back to their earlier placement. Your teethwill line up exactly as they looked before you got braces. Your teeth are held in place by periodontal ligaments. It takes a long time for the periodontal ligaments to adjust when the teeth are straightened. Therefore, orthodontists created retainers to keep your teeth straight, in perfect alignment. Basically, your orthodontist has a choice of three different types of retainers As a patients this is not something you get to choose; the orthodontist chooses the best retainer for each patient. In the medieval manor the knights and nobles traded favors such as fixing a building or building a shack or supplying agricultural produce. In the other trading networks a variety of items were exchanged. The Indian Ocean network was best known for trading ivory, gold, silks, iron, porcelain, ebony, spices, herbs, jewelry, cotton, animal hide, and slaves. The Trans Saharan trade exchanged vast quantities of gold, salt, books, cotton, cloth, horses, guns, leather goods, and slaves. All of these trading networks involved the participation of slaves although slaves played a different role in each system. Serfs and slaves had a different position in each of the trade networks.
