Urea Molasses Multinutrients
Block
Hussain Ahmad
• Wooden box
(9”× 5"× 5")
UMMB
• 2.5kg block to be fed for 4-6 days in case of
cattle and 4 days for buffalo
• 20-40 days for sheep & goat
Sheep and goats
• 45% molasses
• 10% urea
• 5% trace minerals
• 2.5% NaCl
• 22.5% wheat bran
• and 15% cement
• MUBs =9.5 US cents/kg
Sheep and goats consumed both the
straw- and wheat bran-based
• By sheep
• Consumption of the straw-based block ranged
from 50 to 179 g/head/d, whereas, the denser
wheat bran-based block was consumed at a
rate of 8–20 g/head/d.
• By goats
• Consumption of the straw-based block was
low (8 g/head/d) while, wheat bran-based
blocks (16–24 g/head/d).
Urea-Mineral Lick Blocks
• Cattle with access to blocks had daily gain of
370 g/day and were significantly better than
the controls at 203 g/day
• Live weight gain of goats with access to blocks
was also significantly higher (P<0.05) than
those without blocks (95 vs. 73 g/day)
• Body condition of cattle & goats was improved
• The consumption of ULB became stable after
about 10 days from the commencement of the
trial.
• On average, the intake of ULB was 50 g/head/d
for cattle and 10 g/head/d for goats.
• Thus, a ULB block weighing 2 kg is sufficient for
one head of cattle for 20 days or for 10 goats
for 10 days.
Precautions
• Block should provide to cattle over 1 year & for
sheep & goat over 6 months of age
• Not more than 500g/d for cattle & buffalo & for
sheep & goat should be supplied not more than
100g/d
• Never be supplied in ground form or dissolved in
water
• Not provide to non- ruminants & calves
• Animals should be supplied with other usual feeds
like straw, fresh green grass, concentrates &
sufficient amounts of clean drinking water in
addition to UMB
