sophisticated.
We liked the
simple design
of the logo and
we thought it
would appeal
to a wide
audience
because it has

model with

cartoons.
However, it does not have
a very British or English
sounding name because it
is too simple and widely
appealing. This would not
be not conventional so
would not be suitable to
use in our film.

We thought of this name because it
is quite a dreamy concept and our
protagonist often has his ‘head in the
clouds’ due to his mental illness.

the genre because Gritty
Realism is a British genre
and fish and chips is
traditionally associated
with Britishness.
This is also a good
choice for a production
company logo as fish
and chips are quite a
greasy meal and not
particular attractive.
This fits the genre as
Gritty realism are often
associated with
unattractiveness and
have a ‘grimy’
aesthetic.
However, unfortunately
this does not give off the
desired professional
appeal and aesthetic that
we want for our film as
well as for it to be more
conventional. This is
because although the
genre is smaller and less
glossy than blockbuster
films, with lower budgets
aswell, they still look
professional.

Like the fish and chips
idea, we believed tea
was also commonly
associated with British
culture and therefore
would be conventional
to use as a production
company logo in a
typically British film
genre.
We believed we would be
able to produce a logo that
looked classy and more
professional than our
previous idea of fish and
chips.
We wanted the logo to
be associated with a tea
cup or tea bag to display
and directly symbolise
the name. We also
believed that if sketched
out as a design it would
look appealing.
Tea is often associated with delicateness and we
believed this could reflect the delicateness of the
subject/theme our film focuses around.

4. Design ideas
We decided we wanted a
vintage teacup design as it is a
bespoke and well known
object associated with
britishness.
We wanted our
design to have a
delicate and
dainty appeal
with minimalistic
floral patterns.
We desired a simple
and traditional
aesthetic to the
design.

5. Development of chosen design:
We had Dottie, our best drawer/artist, sketch out a
more developed, aesthetically pleasing and professional
design of the logo. We decided to keep the design
simple with only using black, white and blue as colours.
This is because many production company’s that do
gritty realism films, such as ‘Film Four’, have very limited
colours and complications to their logos. Thus making
this design more conventional by keeping it simple. This
was also the reason we had the teacup be of a simple
design of only a few blue flowers.
We decided to use a china mug design as the log rather
than a mug as we believed it would convey the
britishness of it more than a mug would.
As well as this, we used this written font because we
believed it represented the delicateness of the ‘tea’.
The placement of the ‘Cup of Tea’ words we decided
would work best on a drawing of a tea bag as it would
emphasise the tea aspect of the company as well as
keep the minimalistic professionalism we desired.

6. Unfortunately we had difficulties when putting
the sketch of the design company into our
editing software. This meant that we had to
produce a digital edit of the logo so this
process would be easier and be able to have
our film look more professional.
I believe this edit to be a lot smoother,
however, I think it is too simple as it doesn't
express the dainty aesthetic that we wanted
our logo to have. Its minimalistic look makes it
look more childish and less professional in my
opinion. Furthermore, it doesn't convey the
britishness as much as the previous design did.
Although this digital design was a way of
tackling the issues whilst editing the logo into
the film we unfortunately had problems when
trying to make the background transparent in
the Photoshop software. This meant that after
editing it into the film it looked even more
professional. We had to find an alternative to
the sketch/digital version of the logo.
