A Reflection Of Remember The Titans
This is a reflection of two movies I viewed which I feel has connections to classes
that I received while attending Warrant Officer Intermediate Level Education
(WOILE). The two movies I chose to watch and pull my inspiration from are
Remember the Titans, a movie based on a true story from the early 70 s and my
second choice was The Replacements, a fiction comedy. Both movies reflect on
leadership and teambuilding, but first, let us get a little background on the two movies.
Remember the Titans, tells the story of a newly integrated high school football team.
It takes place in 1971 in the city of Alexandria, Virginia at T. C. Williams High School
. When the school board decides to consolidate and integrate all the schools in the
district, T. C. Williams finds itself caught up in the middle of racial tensions as both
blacks and whites are now attending the same school. Tension builds even more when
the current head coach, Bill Yoast, a white coach, is told by the school board that he
must step down to assistant coach to make way for the newly appointed head coach,
Herman Boone, a black coach. The movie focusses around the football team as both
blacks and whites lean to put aside their race and their differences to come together
to achieve a common goal, and that is to win.
The second movie, The Replacements, is a fictional comedy about a football team
of replacement players put together when the primary team goes on strike. The
team, built from a vast array of cultural backgrounds must learn to come together in
order to win three of the final four games of the season to make it to the playoffs. At
first, they are unorganized and have no clear direction, but that soon changes after a
bar brawl that lands the whole team in jail.
Both movies reflect how weak and/or strong leadership can effect a team and its
mission, in this case, the mission is to win games and move onto the
championships. When coaches Boone Yoast first come together their leadership
styles as well as their respect for each other clash. When the team arrives at their
training camp, Coach Boone gets to work quickly by setting a high set of standards

which social media provokes social interaction amongst society. Hajli specifically

English Language Learners There are many English Language Learners who may
be at a higher disadvantage because they are learning English as a second language.
Being introduced to any language is a challenging task for all small children;
consequently, students who cannot communicate with any school staff members are
often left behind. Due to the variety of languages in a school setting it would be
difficult to have a dual immersion program set in place. However, in Kern County,
there are many small towns whose population is primarily Spanish speaking. These
town s students are faced with many difficulties as they try to adjust and transition to
English because a lot of their parents do not speak English themselves. Schools with a
high population of Spanish speaking students should offer a dual immersion program
because it will provide their students the necessary tools to become proficient English

Many times, school faculty may feel that incorporating a dual immersion program

through the alteration, modification, or transformation of elements of the original.
A remix is a piece of art that may have had items added, appropriated, or removed.

The Black Hills Of South Dakota
Lets take a trip back in time to 1884 in the Black Hills of South Dakota. A New York
lawyer had just traveled there to inspect mining claims in that region. The man s
name was Charles E. Rushmore. Rushmore was curious by one of the mountains and
asked a towns person what the name of the mountain was. The towns person replied
saying it had no name. From then on Charles Rushmore started calling it Rushmore
Peak. Over time it became known as Mount Rushmore(history.com). During the
following years the area of the Black Hillsdecided they wanted to start attracting
tourist the region. I the early 1920s the state historian of South Dakota, Doane
Robinson, came up with an idea to attract tourist. He thought of the idea to to carve
famous historic heroes of the west into the side of the mountain (history.com). In
1924, Robinson decided to contact the famous American sculptor, Gutzon Borgium,
about his idea. Borgium at the time was working on another project for Georgia, but
Robinson was able to convince him to abandon his project and come

Introduction
The battle at Little Bighorn is one of the most talked about battles in American
History. In this paper I will cover the events in history that lead to the battle, the
battle, aftermath and the lessons learned from this battle. Over one hundred years

The battle at Little Bighorn occurred on June 25th 1876 near an Indian camp located
by the Little Bighorn River. The camp was located in the Black Hills not on a
reservation. To fully understand the battle we must first look at what lead to it. The
issues that arose in the eight years leading up to the battle would be the catalyst for
what the battle at Little Bighorn.
To begin in 1868 the Fort Laramie Treaty was signed.

the Sioux tribes and the new settlers. The treaty designated land in the Black Hills
for the Native Americans to live and hunt. The land was to be protected from

General Terry sent Lt. Colonel Custer to evaluate the land in the Black Hills and to
find a location for a new Army Fort. On his expedition Lt.Col. Custer discovered
gold. The discovery of gold in the lands protected by the treaty would be the cause of

in 2008 in Buffalo, New York. It was created by Judge Robert Russell in an effort

3. From what I ve read, this kind of court is highly successful. In the case of Judge
Robert Russell s original special veteran s court, his court saw (at the time of this
particular article) a 90% success rate without any recidivism. In Hennepin County,
Minnesota, their special veteran s court was found in a study of two years to have
lowered the amount of offenses committed of 83% of the participants six months
after being in the program, as compared to six months before.
One judge noted that working with fellow veterans is particularly helpful to those

it is important for veterans being put through these kinds of courts to be working
