Scientist-Practitioner Model Essay
Is Scientist Practitioner Model an Ideal Rather Than a Reality? The scientist practitioner model is
established on the ideology that the knowledge and skills on both research and clinical practice are
essential to trained professional psychologists. It claims that, professional psychologists should play
three roles, as a researcher, a consumer and an empirical evaluator. However, some researchers argue
that, scientist practitioner model is an ideal rather than a reality (Prochaska Norcross, 1983; Long
Hollin, p.78). For instance, Frank (1984) argued that the interests and aptitudes that necessary for
research and practise are discordant. It is unrealistic to train students to be both scientist and

So, it is unrealistic to train students to be both scientist and practitioner when people enter program

that, the personality traits between researcher and practitioner are differ. For instance, Kelly and
Goldberg (1959) found that, experimental psychologist were score high on both curiosity and
creativity but low on altruism. However, clinicians were relatively more altruism than average
population but low on both curiosity and creativity. Also, Perry (1975) indicated that, clinicians tended

The Progressive Era And The New Deal
Despite existing during two different times in the history of the United States, it can be argued that the
New Deal reforms reflected the reform traditions of the Progressive Era. When examining the New
Deal, Progressive influence is evident based first off of the social and political issues addressed by
reforms. Second, the reforms from the two times themselves are uncannily similar, again due to the
focus on the same problems existing in the United States. In addition to this, the icing on the cake is
found when examining President Roosevelt s administration during the New Deal, a majority of which
were intelligent Progressive reformers during the Progressive Era. Because of this, the New Deal
reflected the reform traditions of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite having differentiating reasons behind their reforms, the New Deal and the Progressive Era
focused on the same issues, which is evident in the similarity of their reforms. As we already know
from the aforementioned information, both the Progressive Era and New Deal had a focus on similar
issues, specifically the rights of laborers, the improvement and expansion of public facilities, and the
limitations of corporate power. Reforms during the Progressive era reflected these values, as seen in
the work accomplished by Samuel Jones, President Taft, and President Wilson. Jones, a Progressive
mayor in Toledo, Ohio ...founded night schools and free kindergartens, built new parks, and supported
the right of workers to unionize (Give Me Liberty 699) in an effort to improve public resources.
President Taft one of the presidents during the Progressive era implemented antitrust laws which
attacked corporations influence by limiting the power of the wealthy, either through taxation or
prosecution of antitrust violators. In addition to this, President Wilson reinforced antitrust laws while
passing legislation which empowered laborers through exempting labor unions from antitrust laws,
banning child labor in certain labor markets, and enforcing an eight hour work day on the nation s
railroads. Coincidentally, the New

Analysis Of Popular Mechanics By Raymond Carver
In Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver a man begins packing his things in a suitcase on a rainy
day. His spouse barges into the room and begins to berate him. She moves to the dresser and picks up
a picture of their baby and leaves the room. The man follows they begin fighting about who gets the
baby. As the women holds tightly to the baby, the man backs her into the kitchen and begins grabbing
the child. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are pulling backwards. The story
concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. This story s theme of the selfish and
aggressive nature of humans is prevalent throughout the text.
Carvers use of diction sets an eerie and depressing mood. The beginning of the story describes ...

Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is
physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the vivid
image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the
middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery
relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person.
Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are
no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader
put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or
hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat,
looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the
room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the
light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in
this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room
(Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with
fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. These few details make it clear

Biofuel Powered Automobiles
Biofuel powered automobiles are an example of humans developing new technology to improve life.
Automobiles and plants, which are both capable of being engineered by humans, have immensely
impacted the United States of America and the world. The connection of automobiles and plants
demonstrates the significance of human innovation and ingenuity. One connection between
automobiles and plants is their ability to be engineered. Automobiles have been engineered with
several different engines throughout time. Electric, steam, and combustion powered engines were all
attempted during the early development of automobiles. Eventually, the combustion engine was
proven to be the easiest to mass produce and at the time, the most efficient. Automobiles ... Show

Automobiles have had an enormous impact on the entire world and all of humanity, but the United
States exemplifies this the best. Although the production and distribution of automobiles started in
Europe, Ford Motor Company expanded the business exponentially in the U.S. The invention and
improvement of automobiles allows individuals to travel. The railroad allows people to travel long
distances, but the automobile allows people to individually travel where they want at any time. It also
provides quicker daily travel which allows people to spend more time enjoying other leisure activities.
The automobile has revolutionized modern civilization by providing a convenient mean of
transportation. Plants have also revolutionized the world, and the U.S. exemplifies this. The United
States had an agrarian based economy that grew significantly during the late nineteenth century and
early twentieth century. The inventions of agricultural tools accelerated the planting and harvesting of
plants. This led to the employment of many more people, the use of much more land, and a rapid
population increase. These benefits of the agricultural growth helped revolutionize the U.S. and
expand it into a major world power. Human engineering of automobiles and plants has been

Influence Of Perfumes And Fragrances
Walking into a perfumery, you are overwhelmed by the scents of citrus, floral, oceanic, woodsy, and

you choose? In many cases, advertising influences people s choice in perfumes and fragrances. Not
only does advertising affect the choice in buying perfumes, but also in other areas of life like clothing,
food, drinks, fitness and more. Even in the times before the technology era, advertising was a key
component in selling products. Advertisements included notice boards, free samples, newspaper ads,

For example, a perfume print ad created in 1965 by Dana called Ambush is a intriguing advertisement.
The print ad is in black and white with the perfume in the middle of the poster with words written to
the side from the goddess of fragrance Ambush perfume while there are two women s upper bodies
depicted in the ad. One seems to be a statue of a goddess wearing a crown that contains angel wings
and star earrings with a gentle smile on her face. The other woman is real and she is behind the statue
with a smile and only a side of her face is shown. Lastly, there are long thin leaves that obscure the
view of the women slightly although the perfume is not and is the item that stands out to the audience.
The ad effectively draws the attention of women as it brings curiosity to the viewers in trying to figure
out who is behind the statue as well as referencing to godesses, which are known to be powerful and
beautiful women. Another criteria in creating an effective perfume advertisement is endorsing
celebrities. In many cases, advertisements feature celebrities, using their popularity to increase
perfume purchases. For instance, Marilyn Monroe, the most glamorous movie star at the time said in
an interview that she wears Chanel No. 5, in which the next week sales skyrocketed. Chanel No. 5 has
become one of the top and oldest perfume companies to have created an advertising platform for
perfume by creating short films promoting their products. The short films

Hawthorne s Rappaccini s Daughter Essay
Hawthorne s Rappaccini s Daughter This essay focuses on the way Hawthorne s Rappaccini s
Daughter articulates the tension between the spirit and the empirical world. Hawthorne challenges the
empirical world Rappaccini, both malevolent for his experimentation with human nature and
sympathetic for his love for his daughter, represents, by raising an aesthetic question Rappaccini
implicitly asks. Hawthorne never conclusively answers this question in his quest to preserve spiritual
beauty in an empirical world, offering the most disturbing possibility of all: could art and the artist

But, as the tale reveals, Baglioni s envy emerges in the professional warfare in which Rappaccini, not
Baglioni, has gained the advantage (928). Baglioni s description of Beatrice and Rappaccini, as
Beatrice will later reveal to Giovanni, prove at least somewhat false because his intentions are tainted
by a desire that Rappaccini not snatch the lad [Giovanni] out of [his] hands...and make use of him for
his infernal experiments (932). Rather, Baglioni approaches Giovanni for the sole purpose of
deprecating his rival s character and daughter, with an obvious jealousy that motivates him and
ultimately destroys Giovanni s faith in the beauty, innocence, and spiritual essence Beatrice
represents. Giovanni s first impressions of Beatrice support Baglioni s view of Rappaccini and his
daughter, who looked redundant with life, health, and energy; all of which attributes were bound down
and compressed, as it were, and girdled tensely, in their luxuriance, by her virgin zone (926). Like one
of the flowers in the garden, Rappaccini tends his daughter with a watchful eye, which binds and
compresses her, protecting her chastity from lustful intentions. Giovanni immediately senses this
protection, even oppression, and his fancy must have grown

on marrying; she already knew what she wanted to do with her life (Powell 1). Because of this, she
told Billy no the first time he asked her to marry him. She later said yes (Powell 1). A little while after
they were married, they had their first child. They had a little baby girl named Virginia Leftwich, but
everyone called her Gigi. Billy and Ruth ended up having five children in all. They had two other
daughters: Anne and Ruth, who was also called Bunny. Billy was probably excited when the two boys
came along: William Franklin III and Nelson Edman, or Ned (Powell 2). Both of Billy s boys followed
in their dad s footsteps of becoming a pastor. Billy has impacted his family so much. Some he did not

Christian Listen To Secular Music
Should A Christian Listen to Secular Music?
Thesis statement
Christian should listen to secular music because it also conveys positive message and its positive sides
outweighs its negative sides.
These days, secular music seems to have a greater influence on many people s lives than Christian
music. Secular music can be very entertaining. There are many secular songs that have catchy
melodies, thoughtful insights, and positive messages. However, my friend has just attended a seminar
that said secular music id from the devil. Yet, I have not found the evidence of this anywhere in the
Bible. In determining whether Christian should listen to secular music. I personally believe that
Christian should listen to secular music, because it also conveys positive message and its positive
sides outweighs its negative sides. Here we are going to discuss some explanation about this topic.
According to listen to the secular music, (Denora, 2012) Christian reviews of the arts would do well to
distinguish between content and composition. You can just appreciate it, just enjoy it and thank the
Lord for it. Thank the Lord for gracing the artists with the ability and creativity to craft that song.

Causes Of Unemployment In The Great Depression
Throughout history both political parties have struggled with many obstacles in governmental policy.
One policy issue that has been apart of both political platforms for years is unemployment. The
unemployment of the American citizen has been high since the beginning of the Great Depression.
Because of high unemployment rates, the American economy has been spiraling into debt now
reaching seven trillion dollars. This has led both political parties to take aim at one another, blaming
the opposition for the social and economical distress. The problem of wide spread unemployment is
prominent in political platforms throughout the years.
After the stock markets crashed in 1929, the United States was faced with an economical battle it had
never seen before. Unemployment was at an all time high because banks were closing and the
American dollar was seemingly meaningless. This brought on mass hysteria and caused chaos
throughout the American population. The American public started looking to the leaders of this
country for answers. They couldn t find jobs, and what jobs they did find were paying them almost
nothing. The public wanted this problem fixed. During the 1932 election, both the democratic and
republican parties addressed the high unemployment brought on by the depression. The Democratic
nominee, Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR), was convinced that this problem was the fault of the former
president and Republican nominee, for the 1932 election, Herbert Hoover. In his parties

Shakespeare Queering Essay
Queering in Shakespeare
Royal National Theatre As You Like It 1967 Shakespeare plays provide a broad and fluid platform for
post modern theatre makers to explore upon various subjects. Yet, it is particularly interesting when
actors are dancing around with genders and sexualities with Shakespeare text, however ahead of time

Royal National Theatre staged a production of As You Like It (1967) directed by Clifford Williams,

In fact, when Shakespeare wrote his plays, they were intended to be played by all male companies,
which, on a certain level, makes it reasonable for casting choices to go back to that root. Hurren also
lined out boys playing girls (especially boys playing girls who are pretending to be boys) adds an extra
dimension of eroticism to the proceeding; and further, that this effect is just what Shakespeare, whose
own sexual propensities are commonly assumed to have been somewhat ambiguous, was aiming at a
theory brought up by one of Jan Kott s essays, Shakespeare s Bitter Arcadia. The relationship between
actors gender representation, which had somehow shifted, and the audience, who had also changed
and learned to appreciate different/new culture in and outside of the theatre, is fascinating. Every time
a major alteration was made, theatre makers were targeting different subjects or it was influenced by
contemporaneous social changes: both when women were first represented on stage by female actors
and when all male cast stands for queers in theatre opposing to a stage dominated by male actors only
for social normality. Nonetheless, each time a revolutionary casting choice manufactured, whether it
was the director s choice to tweak audience s sexuality or not, it takes time for theatre goers to
recognize the message. In this case, Royal National Theatre s production of As You Like It (1967)
proffered the four female roles played not by boys, but by men whose ages ranged from 27 to 37.

Mary Wigman Research Paper
Mary Wigman rejected ballet technique in her dance style, perceiving classical ballet technique as
artificial and confining. Wigman believed that the emphasis should be on the transcendent nature and
spiritual purpose of the dance, while embodying essentialism (pg. 6, Newhall). She knew she was not
the best dancer in the room, but she knew how to be in touch with her emotions while dancing. She
drew upon sources from what was going on in the world during the early 1900 s from war to the

International Criminal Court Argumentative Essay

with the intention of being a justice system that had jurisdiction over international crimes such as war
crimes and genocide. Originally, there were 124 states that ratified the International Criminal Court
and there were 31 states that signed. Recently, states have decided to leave the International Criminal
Court or retract their signatures. There are many arguments as to why these states are choosing to

From the point of view of a realist, states tend to pursue their own interests. Specifically, states that
have not ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court can do what they deem
necessary whether or not it is in accordance with international law. Therefore, states, such as South
Africa, are driven by their own self interest to leave the International Criminal Court. For South
Africa, their self interests may include protecting their citizens from what they believe is an unjust
court system. African leaders, like the leaders in South Africa, believe that the International Court
System is biased and is a tool for Europe to beat up on Africa. (NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE). In
particular, realists believe that self interest is driven by the state s pursuit of power. In this case, the
countries that are not under the International Criminal Court s jurisdiction do not have to follow the
international laws that are defined in the Rome Statute. Therefore, in pursuit of power, the South
African government may choose to follow the suit of other powerful countries and leave the
International Criminal Court. In contrast to the realist view, constructivism is based on the fact that the
system is created by the states, and, therefore, anarchy is

Rights for Minors Minors do not have the same rights and privileges as adults do. They wish they
could have those rights, but society thinks differently. First, when people are in public, they all have to
follow by federal laws or they will get put into court, fined or locked up. Minors publicly don t have
the same rights as adults. Most children by law have a curfew. Ages 13 and under during the school
year have to be in by 8pm and 9pm in the summer, ages 14 and 15 during the school year have to be in
at 9pm and 10pm in the summer and ages 16 and 17 during the school year have to be in by 10pm and
11pm during the summer. Minors think that curfew is absurd because when they get with their friends
and they are hanging out and having fun, they tend to lose track of time and then their parents call
them in at approximately 8:00 pm and their friends can stay out until around ... Show more content on

Sleepwalking Leg Syndrome
Sleep problems can range from mild to severe and can be as diverse as walking in your sleep to coping
with restless leg syndrome. It is thought that more than 10 million people suffer from RLS and over
8.5 million have dealt with walking in their sleep. I am part of both of those statistics. I will first talk
about my experience as a whole with sleepwalking and then restless leg syndrome. I never thought of
sleepwalking as a problem or sleep disorder even tho I did it myself as a child. On one of my
sleepwalking excursions I apparently walked out of my room, through the living room, down 4 or 5
stairs (with no problem going down or back up), and over to my dad who was still awake watching
television while lying on the couch. That all seemed normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I have not had a sleepwalking episode since I was 19 years old which would concur with what we now
know in that the older we get, our deep NREM 3 sleep becomes less and therefore so does the
sleepwalking. As with sleepwalking I did not know restless leg syndrome was a sleep problem or
disorder. Also as with sleepwalking I started having RLS symptoms when I was a child. I did not
know it was a thing because I was so young when I first had the symptoms and I don t recall even
telling my parents there was a problem. It wasn t until I was pregnant with my fourth child that I
remember it happening again with any kind of regularity. But after this go around of feeling the same
painful irritating symptoms in my legs I was able to look it up on the internet and voila! Restless leg
syndrome.
I am glad to know what it is but as with sleepwalking there isn t a so called cure, only things you
could do to manage the symptoms. There isn t even actually a test to be taken to determine if you have
RLS, only certain criteria to be met.It is an annoying hurtful sensation

Troposphere Refraction Lab
The Troposphere has atoms and molecules which affect the radio waves between the satellite and the
receiver. Due to the amount of gas present in this area group velocity decreases and the Zenith angle
contributes to the troposphere refraction. The lower the zenith angle the more affected is the
tropospheric refraction. Ionosphere and Troposphere has an influence on pseudo range and Carrier

From blast furnaces to highly efficient electric arc furnaces, the steel industry has seen advancements
in both technology and range of product versatility (The Industrial Revolution n.d.).
Steel is closely linked to the ferrous scrap industry and the iron ore industry in that its main raw
materials are derived from these areas. Because of its chemical properties, steel does not have high
product substitutability; therefore world s economies have long been depending on its extensive use.
1.4 Early Market Structure of the Steel Industry
Following the post war era of the WWII, steel distribution remained mainly focused on the former
USSR, US, and Western European countries. In 1960s, the emergence of Japan as a potential steel
manufacturer surfaces, making changes to the early dominant structure of the steel market in the 50s.
ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community) was by then the world s greatest exporter of steel. It was
a collusion of developed western countries in an attempt to create a shared market.
Other strong forces were the U.S. Steel Company and later on the ex USSR. This particular period of
the industry was founded on the basis of new technologies, extensive mining and abundant production
(Medeiros 2006). Between 1960 and 1974, a growth of 5.5% per annum was keeping the industry on
top (World Steel Industry n.d.).

Female Victims Of Sexual Assault
Throughout my five weeks at the Campus Assault Resources and Education (C.A.R.E.), I observed
and discussed a problem that I wanted to research more. The problem that I observed was the stigma
of male rape and sexual assault victims. There are programs established at the C.A.R.E. office that are
geared towards men and the entire staff is making efforts to get away from gendered victim and
perpetrator type language, but I still observed that most statistics used in presentations only talked
about women sexual assault rates and majority of men that came up to the booth during freshman and
transfer orientation did not know how they could get involved or were impacted by this program. One
student in particular, came up to me and asked me how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stems from the stereotypes concerning male sex roles, sexual motivation, and sexual functioning.
In our society, sexual assault is a major social problem and researchers are beginning to delve more
into the topic. This is because there are significant psychological problems that happen after an
assault. One problem is that not much scientific research has been done that has been attentive to male
victims and their needs. The researchers hypothesized that a male victim of female sexual assault
would be judged as more likely to have encouraged or initiated the assault, less likely to be able to be
forced to have sex, more likely to have enjoyed the interaction because of the physical reaction, and
less likely to experience high stress from the event.
In order to demonstrate this bias, the study selected 77 male subjects and 89 female subjects from the
University of Washington s introductory level psychology courses who volunteered to participate in
this research. Each subject received a booklet containing two case descriptions and rating forms and
the true purpose of the study was concealed. The sex of the victim and sex of the assailants were
systematically varied in a 2 x 2 design. After the participants read the case, there was a Juror
Questionnaire designed to measure degree of responsibility and affective responses attributed to the
victim and assailants, as well as judgment of remorse and punitiveness toward the assailants.

The Failure Of The League Of Nations
The League of Nations was doomed To failure from the start Adam Jenner Many may believe that the
League of Nations was doomed to failure as soon as the doors of their Geneva headquarters were
opened; many may say that it was built on unstable foundations; that the very idea of it was a grave
misjudgment by the powers that were. Indeed it is true that the League of Nations, when it was set up
was marred with many fundamental flaws. The League of Nations was formed after the end of the
First World War. It was an idea that President Wilson introduced as an international police force to
maintain peace and to ensure the devastating atrocities like the First World War ever happening again.
The principle mission of the League of Nations was to maintain World Peace. Their failure as the
international peacekeeping organization to maintain world peace brought the outbreak of Second
World War. Their failure in policing and preventing peace in settling disputes throughout Europe,
erupted into the most devastating war ever. Through my analysis of the failures of the League of
Nations to maintain world peace, my arguments will demonstrate the understandings of the reasons
and events that created the most devastating environment for the Second World War.
When the league first started everyone had different ideas of what organization it should be and what
aims it should have. The league was based on the covenant a set of 26 articles or rules which all
members had to agree to and the

Absolute Film Is Fine Art
Absolute Film Is Fine Art Although literature existing on the subject of abstract cinema s origins is not
lacking, seldom does it appear in a purely art historical context. In mentioning visual artists,
particularly focusing on Hans Richter and Viking Eggeling s collaborations, scholarship rarely
questions the aesthetic motives or innate desire for each of these artists to transcend pencil and paper,
oil and canvas primarily; so what are these films connections to previous endeavors for these pioneers
of abstract film? What drove these established artists to strive for a universal language and rhythm in
the medium of moving image that couldn t be achieved on canvas or paper? These particular questions
will be focused specifically on and answered through an understanding of the advent of absolute
cinema, between 1918 and 1925, before Richter would move beyond and arguably surpass a non
objective approach to film. Absolute cinema aesthetically conjoins film to the immobile fine arts,
bridging the gap and acting as the logical baby step between painting on canvas and working with
celluloid. Not only does absolute cinema provide such a bridge but it also allows the expression of
abstract and geometrical forms to exceed staticity. What could only exist as an impression of
temporality through painting, drawing, and sculpture, such as within a Boccioni States of Mind

The Peasants Revolt The Movie Essay
The Protestant Reformation was a religious movement to reform Catholicism leading to the creation
of Protestantism. Many movies try to portray the religious movement, but one stands out from the
others. The film Luther did not accurately portray the social and political aspects of the Protestant
Reformation. The film does not give enough detail to historically represent the German peasants and
nobility; it also dramatizes political characters and events to specifically target Luther s enemies,
giving inaccurate information in the process.
The film lacks the detail to historically portray the social aspects successfully because the plot orbits
around Martin Luther; it omits different aspects of the Peasants Revolt, specifically the relationship
between the German peasants and nobility. Throughout the film, Eric Till the director eliminates most
of the interaction between the German peasants and nobility allowing the film to revolve around
Luther. The Peasants Revolt erupted due to German nobles placing unrealistic taxes on peasants, but
the movie prioritized another cause: The whole world s been turned upside down by that madman
Luther (Luther 2003). Peasants from Wittenberg claimed that Luther s ideas lived on after his
kidnapping and inspired peasants to separate themselves from the Catholic Church. Till disregards the
importance of taxation and gives the viewers inaccurate information: Heading Wimpheling s

Differing Opinions on the Controversial Death Penalty...
The issue of capital punishment is one that has been in discussion for many years. How can anyone
control the life of another human being? The accused may have taken the life of another citizen but
what gives anyone the right to take his. This is the main point of the question but it gets vastly more
complicated as the issue is further investigated. For instance, the psychopath who goes on a murderous
rampage might have an abnormality with the frontal lobe of the cortex in his brain. Now, if this is the
case this person may not be able to control his murderous impulses. So, should this person be

Of course there is the old argument that capital punishment legalizes killing. This holds no ground.
The person who committed a crime deserves to be punished. But, which punishment is worse, life in
prison or death? The criminal sentenced to death most likely suffers more waiting for his death
sentence to be carried out than did the person he murdered. Although this it not positively known. The
next part of this discussion will be carried out by Christopher W. Morris. One must first understand
what justice is compared to benevolence. The standard distinction is to understand justice to pertain to
what individuals are owed, to what they may claim, to what they have a right. (Morris, 273)
Benevolence is concerned with the well being of the accused. Justice is the more important of these
two issues. A moral object is that which is receiving the moral consideration and to achieve moral
standing is to be owed moral consideration, hence be a direct moral object. Having moral standing is a
relation; something has moral standing in its relation to some other entity(ies). (Morris, 274)
Criminals forfeit their moral standing in civilization. They do pay the same moral consideration to
others so the moral consideration to them should be lost. The accused did not respect this social
contract and so this should not be respected upon them. The last part of this discussion will be

Unfair Access to Information
In Hong Kong, about 40% of households do not have a computer, while 70% do not use the Internet.
Despite the rapid development and widespread use of information and communication technologies in
recent years, scholars have drawn attention to the fact that access to these innovations is by no means
even [1], and this has raised concerns about an emerging information gap in a society based on income
and education. The issue of whether equitable access to information technologies and services in the
digital age for the poor, the elderly and other disadvantaged groups is currently a controversial topic.
The purpose of this essay is to examine the hypothesis that access to information in the digital age is
unfair. I will examine two refuting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the number of families with access to the Internet has risen sharply in the past decade, a
significant proportion of households are unable to afford the fees for these services. [1] It would
indicate that students from such households at an obvious disadvantage. The students, unlike children
from middle and upper income families, do not have ready access to the specialized and up to date
information and entertainment provided by this new media. Thus, it reinforces the non digital
inequalities.
Thirdly, possibly the next most noteworthy refuting reason is that service provision made possible by
digital technologies would benefit the elderly, the poor and minority. [4] The government can provide
more tailored services for the public through database driven technology. [5] It provides the
opportunity for the public to obtain services from companies and government without visiting the
offices. It would allow government and companies to offer 24 hours services [6], for example,
individual can make the booking in advance anywhere and anytime they need by putting health
service online.
The final argument is that replacing traditional face to face services with digital ones place burdens on
the elderly and the poor. In order to access to digital services, the elderly have to give up their
traditional ways of doing things and learn to familiarize themselves at such old age with new
technologies

The And Structure Of Uk Construction Industry
In 1998, Sir John Egan identified five key drivers for change including integrated processes and teams
(Egan, J 1998). Egan noted significant changes required to the culture and structure of UK
construction industry to help improve the relationships between companies . Sir John Egan (Egan, J
1998). In a subsequent report issued in 2003, Egan suggested that the UK Office of Government
Commerce (OGC) recommends integration of the project team as an enabler of change. The proposal
from the OGC on the adoption of standard forms of contract that encourage such team integration and
collaboration between the various parties would help eliminate the inherent adversarial culture deeply
rooted in the construction industry (Egan, J 2003). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effect Of Heartburn On Your Stomach
Introduction:
Heartburn is generally caused by imbalanced gastric juices/acids. Antacids are a type of medication,
which corrects the pH balance in your stomach. A pH scale is a scale that ranges from 0 14, with 0
being the most acidic, 7 being neutral, and 14 being most basic. There are many types of antacids,
such as sodium bicarbonate (contains baking soda), calcium carbonate, there is also aluminum and
magnesium based antacids. A combination of aluminum and magnesium based antacids also exist.
These come in liquid and solid tablet forms. The brands, which are going to be tested during this
experiment, will be milk of magnesia by the Life Brand that costs $8.99; Phillips that costs $13.99,
and Bismuth by the Life Brand that costs $5.99.
Purpose:
The testing of three different antacids was done during this experiment to determine, which of the
three antacids is the best to stop heartburn.
Hypothesis:
The Phillips antacid is going to be the best type of antacid from the three because this antacid includes
magnesium and not a lot of other chemicals. This antacid is also the one that costs the most, and if it
cost a lot it should be better.
Variables:
Independent Variables:
Amount of antacid
Concentration of acid
State of antacid
Dependent Variables:
Amount of acid added/dropped to neutralize the antacid
Controlled:
Titration technique
Indicator type
Concentration of acid
State of antacid

Roscoe Arbuckle Research Paper
The Scandalous Hollywood Fat Man: Roscoe Arbuckle Have you ever wondered how everyday life
would be if there were parade tabloid writers and paparazzi following your every move? Every step
you take you hear the shutter of a camera and microphones following you around to get the scoop .
This was the life Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle. Roscoe was a very famous comedian during the nineteen
teens and twenties. He co starred with Mabel Normand in many films such as Mabel s Wilful Way and
Fatty and Mabel Adrift under Keystone Film Studio. In 1920 he opened his own film company which
propelled his success even further. During this time he came to be known as the Million Dollar Man,
Roscoe became the first actor to be paid one million dollars a year. Fame and money became Roscoe s
normality, he started living larger and larger. Different women every night, luxurious cars, and only
the most expensive hotel suites for him and his friends to celebrate. Roscoe was living the life a lot of
people wish they could have.

His films had been banned. The newspapers had been filled with alleged Hollywood murder and
sexual perversion. His accuser Delmont became a star as Arbuckle suffered. She was touring the
country and giving lectures and speeches about the evils of Hollywood. The third and final trial began
in March 13, 1922. His defense started with an aggressive stance. McNab, his defense lawyer, tore
apart the case and presented different examination and cross examination of the witnesses. It only took
six minutes for the jury to decide a unanimous not guilty verdict. The jury wrote an apologetic
statement towards Arbuckle. They had admitted after all the trials there was no clear evidence he had
committed such a crime and he was an innocent man free from blame. Arbuckle kept this letter as
treasured remembrance for the rest of his

Interns Will Build Good Network
Interns will build good network. Everyone you meet in an internship is a potential contact for your
network and someone you can call upon for advice and referrals when you are job hunting closer to
graduation time.
 You will build your resume. Any kind of experience on your resume is helpful, but career relevant
internship experience will make a better impression on employers than your serving job. Many
employers use internships as a trial period and will already have plans to recruit on a permanent basis.
Therefore, it s vital that you make a good impression; turn up on time, be enthusiastic and show your
flexibility, adaptability and commitment.

EMPLOYER S PERSPECTIVE:
A staggering 95 percent of employers said candidate experience is a factor in hiring decisions,
according to an annual survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) nearly
half of surveyed employers wanted new grad experience to come from internships or co op programs.
If you have completed internships, you will clearly have an edge over your classmates who haven t.
Philip D. Gardner, research director of the Collegiate Employment Research Institute quotes that
internship experience is just one of those things you have to have before employers will even consider
looking at your resume. Employers increasingly see their internship programs as the best path for
hiring entry level candidates. Not only does participation in an internship make the student a more
attractive candidate, but it can also be an avenue to a job. the National Association of Colleges and
Employer s Experiential Education Survey shows that hiring from the intern program is growing.
Employers reported that nearly 36 percent of the new college graduates they hired came from their
own internship programs.
Matthew Zinman of the Internship Institute reports that IBM hires up to 2,000 interns annually and
converts more than half of them to full time hires. Recruiting guru Dr. John Sullivan writes on the
Electronic Recruiting Exchange that the most effective sources I have worked with have consistently

Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Essay examples
Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry
Benjamin Franklin once said that there were only two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. He got
it half right. They did, in fact, die with pretty regular certainty. However, what was inevitable was sex.
Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have been
completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm of the
chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly probed as
in the 17th and 18th century. To judge by the poets of the time, one would conclude that next to dying
the citizens of this era spent most of their time either praising the virtuous, trying to ... Show more

Again, the virtue itself is not exactly being praised so much as being alluded to as a component of
something good.
The women also had their say. In Katherine Phillips s A Married State (1679), the many advantages of
a life of chastity are listed. Phillips says A virgin s state is crowned with much content; / It s always
happy as it s innocent. In addition to innocence, Phillips points out that there are no grouchy husbands,
no screaming children and nothing else to distract you from your service to God. In fact, wistful
women wishing they d kept their virginity and wedding vows to themselves wrote many poems in this
era. It is a telling social commentary that so many married women would wish themselves back to live
a life of chaste penitence than to enter into so called wedded bliss.
The most common theme in virginity poems is that of men trying to get women to change their minds
and go to bed with them. Many poets tried to use persuasion on their objects of desire. In Robert
Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, the well known first line Gather ye rosebuds while ye
may appears. This poem is an appeal to virtuous women to use it while they ve got it, per se. In the
proud tradition of soldiers who will be sent off tomorrow who just know they aren t coming back and
hedonists everywhere, Herrick emphasizes that time is short and virgins are wasting their youths

The Worst Phone Call Of My Life
On February 5th 2006 I received the worst phone call of my entire life. The day before was my
eighteenth birthday in which two of my best friends help celebrate with food, pop, and games! On that
night I invited my three closest friends, one of which never showed. Throughout the night my friends
and I continually phoned our friend to try and figure out why he never showed up. After numerous
attempts we decided he most likely drank too much beer, while his parents were known to be out of
town, and just passed out forgetting about my birthday. The next morning I had a voicemail from my
friends Mom asking me if he ever came over my house because he was no were to be found. I
immediately phoned my friends mother and she sadly informed me that my friend was found in the
woods unconscious after hitting a tree with his snowmobile. He was found at 6 am in the morning by
his father in 20 degree weather. My friend was unconscious for almost 8 hours in the cold before being
rushed to the University of Michigan Medical center. I have always been interested in computers my
entire life, from the engineering aspect all the way to software development. The weeks following my
friend s accident proved to shape my interest in computer science and artificial intelligence greatly.
Frostbite to his fingers prompted doctors to remove all ten with just leaving his hands in place. Three
separate brain surgeries occurred to remove multiple blood clots and an entire facial reconstruction

Case Study On Rhino Horn
1. Reasons why rhinos are being poached 1.1. The number of rhinos being poached has grown rapidly
in recent years and is being driven by the demand for rhino horn in Asian countries, particularly
Vietnam. The main reasons people poach rhinos are for medicinal purposes and to have as a status
symbol to display your wealth and success. In Chinese culture, a rhino horn is used to treat fever,
rheumatism and gout. They also believe that the horn can cure snakebites, hallucinations, typhoid,
headaches, carbuncles, vomiting, food poisoning and devil possession. The rhino horn is usually
shaved into a powder, dissolved in hot water and then consumed by the patient. Some western
countries believe that rhino horns are used as an aphrodisiac, but this is not true. However, people in
Vietnam believed this tale and started to use the rhino horn for new reasons. They also use the rhino
horn as a hangover cure. More and more people are buying rhino horns as a status symbol or ... Show

The linkage of power of the private rhino owners will increase effectiveness of prevention of rhino
poaching. The only way of knowing for certain whether the legalizing of rhino horn trade will work is
when it is legalized. Extreme policies and legislation would be put in place to ensure that this system
would work effectively.Another strategy to look at is whether the punishment for the perpetrators
should be more severe and whether the use of a shoot on sight policy should be implemented when the
culprits are caught in the act (Van Houlen, 2004). This would increase the risk for individuals
contemplating to part take within the illegal activities of rhino

Secession Of The Texas Economy
In today s society with so many disagreements between the state and federal government going on the
thought crosses some Texans minds about secession. The movement, headed by the Texas Nationalist
Movement and the Tea Party, is seeking to remove the state from the union and institute Texas as a
new country. Many questions arise over the topic of secession covering topics such as economy,
currency, population, and if Texas would be helped or hurt by leaving the United States federal
government behind. It has been shown that Texas has a much larger population than many countries as
well as gold to back a currency should it decide to create one. The Texas economy is extremely strong
with a mass of exports and natural resources being gathered in the state. These natural resources tied
with other products made in Texas give the state one of the strongest economies in the world. Even
with all this knowledge the question over secession still persists. The Texas economy stands 12th in
the world and stands as a reason that secession might be possible. From minerals to gemstones, oil to
natural gas, and animal products to the creation of electrical equipment the Texas economy stands
strong even when other parts of the world are struggling. Among the natural resources are 16 ports
whose economic impact on the United States totals in the billions. For the past decade, Texas has been
the top state for foreign exports. Last year, they totaled $265 billion, according to data from the

  • 3. Scientist-Practitioner Model Essay Is Scientist Practitioner Model an Ideal Rather Than a Reality? The scientist practitioner model is established on the ideology that the knowledge and skills on both research and clinical practice are essential to trained professional psychologists. It claims that, professional psychologists should play three roles, as a researcher, a consumer and an empirical evaluator. However, some researchers argue that, scientist practitioner model is an ideal rather than a reality (Prochaska Norcross, 1983; Long Hollin, p.78). For instance, Frank (1984) argued that the interests and aptitudes that necessary for research and practise are discordant. The Progressive Era And The New Deal Despite existing during two different times in the history of the United States, it can be argued that the New Deal reforms reflected the reform traditions of the Progressive Era. When examining the New Deal, Progressive influence is evident based first off of the social and political issues addressed by reforms. Second, the reforms from the two times themselves are uncannily similar, again due to the focus on the same problems existing in the United States. In addition to this, the icing on the cake is found when examining President Roosevelt s administration during the New Deal, a majority of which were intelligent Progressive reformers during the Progressive Era. Despite having differentiating reasons behind their reforms, the New Deal and the Progressive Era focused on the same issues, which is evident in the similarity of their reforms. As we already know from the aforementioned information, both the Progressive Era and New Deal had a focus on similar issues, specifically the rights of laborers, the improvement and expansion of public facilities, and the limitations of corporate power. Reforms during the Progressive era reflected these values, as seen in the work accomplished by Samuel Jones, President Taft, and President Wilson. Jones, a Progressive mayor in Toledo, Ohio ...founded night schools and free kindergartens, built new parks, and supported the right of workers to unionize (Give Me Liberty 699) in an effort to improve public resources. The man follows they begin fighting about who gets the baby. As the women holds tightly to the baby, the man backs her into the kitchen and begins grabbing the child. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are pulling backwards. The story concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the vivid image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person. Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat, looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room (Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. Hawthorne challenges the empirical world Rappaccini, both malevolent for his experimentation with human nature and sympathetic for his love for his daughter, represents, by raising an aesthetic question Rappaccini implicitly asks. Rather, Baglioni approaches Giovanni for the sole purpose of deprecating his rival s character and daughter, with an obvious jealousy that motivates him and ultimately destroys Giovanni s faith in the beauty, innocence, and spiritual essence Beatrice represents. Giovanni s first impressions of Beatrice support Baglioni s view of Rappaccini and his daughter, who looked redundant with life, health, and energy; all of which attributes were bound down and compressed, as it were, and girdled tensely, in their luxuriance, by her virgin zone (926). One policy issue that has been apart of both political platforms for years is unemployment. The unemployment of the American citizen has been high since the beginning of the Great Depression. Because of high unemployment rates, the American economy has been spiraling into debt now reaching seven trillion dollars. This has led both political parties to take aim at one another, blaming the opposition for the social and economical distress. The problem of wide spread unemployment is prominent in political platforms throughout the years. After the stock markets crashed in 1929, the United States was faced with an economical battle it had never seen before. Unemployment was at an all time high because banks were closing and the American dollar was seemingly meaningless. This brought on mass hysteria and caused chaos throughout the American population. The American public started looking to the leaders of this country for answers. They couldn t find jobs, and what jobs they did find were paying them almost nothing. The public wanted this problem fixed. During the 1932 election, both the democratic and republican parties addressed the high unemployment brought on by the depression. Shakespeare Queering Essay Queering in Shakespeare Royal National Theatre As You Like It 1967 Shakespeare plays provide a broad and fluid platform for post modern theatre makers to explore upon various subjects. Yet, it is particularly interesting when actors are dancing around with genders and sexualities with Shakespeare text, however ahead of time he was, which was written in a time that women and queer were oppressed or not acknowledged. Royal National Theatre staged a production of As You Like It (1967) directed by Clifford Williams, with an all male cast with Ronald Pickup as Rosalind, Jeremy Brett as Orlando, Charles Kay as Celia, Derek Jacobi as Touchstone, Anthony Hopkins as Audrey, and Robert Stephens as Jaques. In fact, when Shakespeare wrote his plays, they were intended to be played by all male companies, which, on a certain level, makes it reasonable for casting choices to go back to that root. Hurren also lined out boys playing girls (especially boys playing girls who are pretending to be boys) adds an extra dimension of eroticism to the proceeding; and further, that this effect is just what Shakespeare, whose own sexual propensities are commonly assumed to have been somewhat ambiguous, was aiming at a theory brought up by one of Jan Kott s essays, Shakespeare s Bitter Arcadia. The relationship between actors gender representation, which had somehow shifted, and the audience, who had also changed and learned to appreciate different/new culture in and outside of the theatre, is fascinating. Every time a major alteration was made, theatre makers were targeting different subjects or it was influenced by contemporaneous social changes: both when women were first represented on stage by female actors and when all male cast stands for queers in theatre opposing to a stage dominated by male actors only for social normality. Nonetheless, each time a revolutionary casting choice manufactured, whether it was the director s choice to tweak audience s sexuality or not, it takes time for theatre goers to recognize the message. In this case, Royal National Theatre s production of As You Like It (1967) proffered the four female roles played not by boys, but by men whose ages ranged from 27 to 37. • 18. Mary Wigman Research Paper Mary Wigman rejected ballet technique in her dance style, perceiving classical ballet technique as artificial and confining. Wigman believed that the emphasis should be on the transcendent nature and spiritual purpose of the dance, while embodying essentialism (pg. 6, Newhall). She knew she was not the best dancer in the room, but she knew how to be in touch with her emotions while dancing. She drew upon sources from what was going on in the world during the early 1900 s from war to the rebellion against the authoritarian tradition of the church, monarchy, and feudalism (pg. 73, Newhall). Mary Anne Santos Newhall went onto to state, For Wigman and her cohorts, this flight into archaic rituals seemed at once regressive, progressive, and an act of rebellion against their middle class beginnings (pg. 17). The court was made with the intention of being a justice system that had jurisdiction over international crimes such as war crimes and genocide. Originally, there were 124 states that ratified the International Criminal Court and there were 31 states that signed. Recently, states have decided to leave the International Criminal Court or retract their signatures. Specifically, states that have not ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court can do what they deem necessary whether or not it is in accordance with international law. For South Africa, their self interests may include protecting their citizens from what they believe is an unjust court system. African leaders, like the leaders in South Africa, believe that the International Court System is biased and is a tool for Europe to beat up on Africa. (NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE). In particular, realists believe that self interest is driven by the state s pursuit of power. In this case, the countries that are not under the International Criminal Court s jurisdiction do not have to follow the international laws that are defined in the Rome Statute. Absolute Film Is Fine Art Absolute Film Is Fine Art Although literature existing on the subject of abstract cinema s origins is not lacking, seldom does it appear in a purely art historical context. In mentioning visual artists, particularly focusing on Hans Richter and Viking Eggeling s collaborations, scholarship rarely questions the aesthetic motives or innate desire for each of these artists to transcend pencil and paper, oil and canvas primarily; so what are these films connections to previous endeavors for these pioneers of abstract film? What drove these established artists to strive for a universal language and rhythm in the medium of moving image that couldn t be achieved on canvas or paper? These particular questions will be focused specifically on and answered through an understanding of the advent of absolute cinema, between 1918 and 1925, before Richter would move beyond and arguably surpass a non objective approach to film. Absolute cinema aesthetically conjoins film to the immobile fine arts, bridging the gap and acting as the logical baby step between painting on canvas and working with celluloid. Not only does absolute cinema provide such a bridge but it also allows the expression of abstract and geometrical forms to exceed staticity. Many movies try to portray the religious movement, but one stands out from the others. The film Luther did not accurately portray the social and political aspects of the Protestant Reformation. The film does not give enough detail to historically represent the German peasants and nobility; it also dramatizes political characters and events to specifically target Luther s enemies, giving inaccurate information in the process. The film lacks the detail to historically portray the social aspects successfully because the plot orbits around Martin Luther; it omits different aspects of the Peasants Revolt, specifically the relationship between the German peasants and nobility. Throughout the film, Eric Till the director eliminates most of the interaction between the German peasants and nobility allowing the film to revolve around Luther. The Peasants Revolt erupted due to German nobles placing unrealistic taxes on peasants, but the movie prioritized another cause: The whole world s been turned upside down by that madman Luther (Luther 2003). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course there is the old argument that capital punishment legalizes killing. This holds no ground. The person who committed a crime deserves to be punished. But, which punishment is worse, life in prison or death? The criminal sentenced to death most likely suffers more waiting for his death sentence to be carried out than did the person he murdered. Although this it not positively known. The next part of this discussion will be carried out by Christopher W. Morris. One must first understand what justice is compared to benevolence. The standard distinction is to understand justice to pertain to what individuals are owed, to what they may claim, to what they have a right. (Morris, 273) Benevolence is concerned with the well being of the accused. Justice is the more important of these two issues. A moral object is that which is receiving the moral consideration and to achieve moral standing is to be owed moral consideration, hence be a direct moral object. Having moral standing is a relation; something has moral standing in its relation to some other entity(ies). (Morris, 274) Criminals forfeit their moral standing in civilization. They do pay the same moral consideration to others so the moral consideration to them should be lost. The accused did not respect this social contract and so this should not be respected upon them. In this apparition the blessed mother chose to appear to an 11 year old girl, Mariette Becco. Banneux is a small town southeast of Liège; it was a poor farming village centered on its church. Beautiful valleys of Ambleve, Vesdre, and Hoëgne surround the town. The house that Mariette Becco lived in was small with a garden in the front; the climate was humid and swampy. Across the street from her house was the edge of the Eifel Forest. The Mother Mary appeared to a young girl named Mariette. Despite the rapid development and widespread use of information and communication technologies in recent years, scholars have drawn attention to the fact that access to these innovations is by no means even [1], and this has raised concerns about an emerging information gap in a society based on income and education. The students, unlike children from middle and upper income families, do not have ready access to the specialized and up to date information and entertainment provided by this new media. Thus, it reinforces the non digital inequalities. Thirdly, possibly the next most noteworthy refuting reason is that service provision made possible by digital technologies would benefit the elderly, the poor and minority. [4] The government can provide more tailored services for the public through database driven technology. [5] It provides the opportunity for the public to obtain services from companies and government without visiting the offices. It would allow government and companies to offer 24 hours services [6], for example, individual can make the booking in advance anywhere and anytime they need by putting health service online. The final argument is that replacing traditional face to face services with digital ones place burdens on the elderly and the poor. • 44. Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Essay examples Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Benjamin Franklin once said that there were only two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. He got it half right. They did, in fact, die with pretty regular certainty. However, what was inevitable was sex. Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have been completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm of the chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly probed as in the 17th and 18th century. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, the virtue itself is not exactly being praised so much as being alluded to as a component of something good. The women also had their say. In Katherine Phillips s A Married State (1679), the many advantages of a life of chastity are listed. Phillips says A virgin s state is crowned with much content; / It s always happy as it s innocent. In addition to innocence, Phillips points out that there are no grouchy husbands, no screaming children and nothing else to distract you from your service to God. In fact, wistful women wishing they d kept their virginity and wedding vows to themselves wrote many poems in this era. It is a telling social commentary that so many married women would wish themselves back to live a life of chaste penitence than to enter into so called wedded bliss. The most common theme in virginity poems is that of men trying to get women to change their minds and go to bed with them. Many poets tried to use persuasion on their objects of desire. In Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, the well known first line Gather ye rosebuds while ye may appears. This poem is an appeal to virtuous women to use it while they ve got it, per se.
