A Report On The Los Penasquitos Trail
In late October our class explored the Los Penasquitos Trail in Sorrento Valley and collected
samples of the area s vegetation, water sources and soil. We hiked early in the morning on a dry,
dirt trail surrounded by drought resistant landscaping. The soil samples for this experiment were
collected from the descending end of a hill leading down to the Wagon Creek Bridge. It was our
assumption that this area would have more microorganisms because of the increased foot traffic.
The purpose of this report is to discuss the bacteriawe discovered in our soil sample. The samples
were kept in plastic tubes with a closed lid until we were ready for analysis. One gram of the soil
was measured out from the tube and mixed with 20ml of deionized water. A serial dilution was
prepared consisting of five glass test tubes filled with 9ml of culture broth. Afterwards, 1ml of the
soil was piped from the center of the sample and placed into the first tube of the serial dilution. We
lightly capped each tube and incubated the sample under a ventilation hood at room temperature
(~24ВєC) for 48 hours. After the incubation period the samples were mixed well will a vortex. We
then piped 1ml of the first dilution into the second dilution and mixed thoroughly with the vortex.
This process was repeated with remainder of the dilutions.. Streak plates were prepared in petri
dishes filled with premade nutrient agar and 100Вµl of the third, fourth and fifth dilutions. We

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
Victoria Sirianni Ms. Thompson AP ELA 4 21 July 2015 Song of Solomon Producing the plot
with a vivid image and motive allowed Toni Morrison to incorporate numerous literary works to
enhance the allusions in the story. These specific allusions gave readers a more accurate
understanding of certain aspects of the book. As well as this, readers are capable of searching
beyond just the surface of what the words say. The common use of biblical references and
myths, as well as other notations, provide a more in depth and detailed analyzation throughout
the entire novel. To start off, Song of Solomon s title relates to the biblical book of the same
name. This emphasizes that the novel addresses more of an old aged theme. The bible based
book focuses on a conversation between two lovers and Toni s novel is a celebration of the
success of earthly love. Morrison also gives her characters biblical names in order to match them
with the well known figures. These characters not only obtain their original history, but the
history that their name carries in the Bible, as well. For example, the biblical character, Hagar, is
Sarah s handmaiden, who bears Sarah s husband a son and is then banished from his sight. Similar
to the previous one mentioned, Morrison s character is often used by Milkman. He takes
advantage of everything she has to offer and uses it for his own selfish benefits. He seems to regret

The Biblical Texts Of The Jewish People
For the Jewish people, Jerusalem has long been regarded as a special city, chosen by God as he
chose the people of Israel. The importance of Jerusalem in the Jewish religious tradition can be
traced back to the Hebrew Bible, in which narratives describe the events which make the city
sacred. However, these events alone do not make Jerusalema sacred place; the biblical texts also
work together to portray the importance and holiness of Yahweh, the Godof Israel. The concept of
sacredness is also highlighted by Mircea Eliade, who theorized about how a sacred place comes
into existence. The biblical texts support Eliade s ideas of the sacred by narrating repeated
hierophanies and promises, working together to reveal the importance of the divine to the people
of ancient Israel. Eliade s primary concept is that of the axis mundi, around which everything
else revolves. An axis mundi is a connection between earth and the supernatural, where humans
and the cosmic can come together (Eliade, 37). Becoming sacred, according to Eliade, is made
possible through a hierophany, an experience through which the divine manifests itself (21). This
hierophany sets a place apart, creating a break in homogeneity that separates it from the profane
(Eliade, 63). He also emphasizes the idea that sacredness makes a place real, and becomes a fixed
point, a point of reference that people align their whole world to (Eliade, 22). A hierophany opens
up the very possibility of a connection with the

Genesis 25 Thesis
Genesis 25 is primarily written in prose, but God s words to Rebekah about her pregnancy
emphasize the importance of what he is saying to her and the fate of her sons. The poem reads,
Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples born of you shall be divided; the one shall be
stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger (Gen. 25:23). God has foretold that the
two brothers will have numerous descendants that are able to form two nations, but he doesn t
explain why they will be in conflict. As is common in the Bible the youngest son achieves
superiority over his elder brother. There is an odd choice of words in this poem though. By saying
that Esauwill serve Jacobit implies that he will forever be in his shadow, however they... Show more

Rereading it though he does have a point to be this way, Jacob received the best blessing from
his father and when begged to also get a blessing Isaac gave Esau a rather harsh and pitiful one.
What was said in Jacob s blessing was the complete opposite for Esau. The word serve is also
mentioned in this poem, Isaac is telling Esau you shall serve your brother (Gen. 27:40), but
there is no further evidence that ever supports this claim that he does serve Jacob, unless both
God and Isaac were not literally talking about the brothers but the two nations they establish.
Verse 40 also supports this idea with Isaac s phrasing of, and you shall serve your brother; but when
you break loose, you shall break his yoke from your neck. (Gen. 27:40), in Genesis 33 Esau and
Jacob meet again after several years and Esau forgives his brother for all that he has done to

The American Dream in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
The struggle for financial security and success has always been prominent in the American culture.
The idea of the American dream captures the hearts of so many, yet leaves almost all of them
enslaved in the endless economic struggle to achieve high status, wealth, and a house with a white
picket fence. In Arthur Miller s, Death of a Salesman, we see how difficult it is for Willy Loman
and his sons to achieve this so called American dream. In Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin in the
Sun, she examines an African American family s struggle to break out of the poverty that is
preventing them from achieving some sort of financial stability, or in other words the American
dream. Both plays explore the desire for wealth, driving forces that... Show more content on

I drive a man around in his limousine and I say, yes, sir; no, sir; very good, sir; shall I take the
Drive, sir? Mama, that ain t no kind of job...that ain t nothing at all (Hansberry pg.73). When
considering Willy s circumstance, he insists that he is crucial to the company he works for, if
old man Wagner was alive I d a been in charge of New York now (Miller pg. 4) and that he should
be a leader by now rather than simply being an employee. These quotes exemplify the idea that
believing you deserve better than you currently have is a powerful force that encourages the
struggle for the American dream. A final major similarity between the two plays is the fact that
both of the men face prejudice for things that they cannot control. For Walter, a prejudice exists
because of his skin color. He dreams of having the same opportunities as the white men and in
this quote he expresses that to his mother Mama sometimes when I m downtown, I pass them
cool quiet looking restaurants where them white boys are sitting back and talking bout
things...sitting there turning deals worth millions of dollars (Hansberry pg. 74). Death of a
Salesman only features white characters, however, a different type of prejudice is shown in the
play. Because Willy is much older now, he doesn t feel like he possess the energy or the capacity
to continue making long trips. When this conclusion leads Willy to be fired, he pleads with
Howard saying, You can t eat the

Gothic Horror in Susan Hill s The Woman in Black and H.G....
Gothic Horror in Susan Hill s The Woman in Black and H.G. Wells The Red Room As with all
things, the gothic horror genre of literature did not begin at one definable point, but evolved
gradually. Gothic horror evolved out of gothic fiction (as opposed to classical fiction, for
example the novels of Jane Austen), before establishing itself as a genre in its own right.
However, many literary scholars and critics would point to The Castle of Otranto , written by
Horace Walpole and first published in 1764, as the first true gothic horror novel, containing as it
does many of the clichs prevalent throughout the genre. Gothic horror novels are typified by their
dark, lachrymose atmosphere of dread and fear. In fact, the key to... Show more content on

These are very important to the gothic feel, and are sometimes augmented by hidden passages and
spiral staircases. In The Woman In Black, the main location is an old, isolated, haunted house in
the middle of a marsh, even supplemented with an abandoned graveyard for full gothic effect. The
castle setting of The Red Room is more traditional for the gothic horror genre, in fact it contains
many classic clichs of the genre, such as suits of amour, spiral staircases and underground tunnels.
These environments are designed to build up an oppressive atmosphere, and increase the tension
even in calm, natural parts of the story. This tension and sense of an oppressive atmosphere is one
of the key elements in gothic horror stories. Everything is done to add to this atmosphere. One of
the most common tricks is to create a sense of alienation and isolation. One definition of alienation
is separation resulting from hostility, ant this is very pertinent to the gothic horror genre; in many
books and stories, the narrator feels that people aren t telling him everything, and are acting against
him (though they are often working to help him), for instance in The Woman in Black, when the
landlord at the Crythin Arms is evasive about the Drablow family, Arthur Kipps says I was curious
and a little irritated by his manner, a sentiment repeated throughout the text. In The Red

In the early 1900 s a group of powerful business people came to the rescue of the economically
drowning Midsouth area. This area which was highly dependent on transportation for economic
development had no representation against any legislative decisions. That is until the Midsouth
Chamber of Commerce (MSCC) was formed. This group lobbied legislature on the issue to provide

Lassiter found out the product was still not implemented, Kovecki was too busy with another
project and was not able to get to it until mid April. Lassiter needed to get things moving; after all
he told the Board it would be completed by the end of March 2006. He took some steps for
action, called a meeting to inform his staff, set up appointments with UNITRAK for training
himself and staff, yet the project continued to lag and Lassiter had no choice but to ask
Wallingford to intervene. He strongly urged Hedges and Kovecki toward completion of the project.
Gaps in the system continued, not only did the staff complain about the software not being user
friendly, UNITRAK openly admitted the software was new and that they were open to adjustments
and changes, that did not give the staff any confidence. More problems came about when Kovecki
attempted to transfer the information from the old system to the new and was unsuccessful.
Lassiter was at his wits end, sat down and let out a loud sigh.
Many issues have been brought forth in this case study. I believe that I would propose the
following actions to the Executive Board.
First I would propose role modification changes. A Chief Information Officer (CIO) position
would be created and Lassiter would be the right candidate for it. Value is

On The Waterfront Analysis Essay
The subject of this paper is Kazan s testimony against the communist and how it is related to one of
the greatest themes in the movie On the Waterfront . The theme has to do with Terry Molloy
breaking the Deaf and Dumb rule which states that nobody should talk about anything that
happened in the docks. The theme also has to do with the main character Terry Molloy testifying
against Johnny Friendly. Was he right to testify. Was Kazan justified in testifying before the HUAC
and how did he justify his testimony? How do the acts of these men compare.

communist party, back in the 1950s. He then and then testified against the party in which he

I believe that he was right to testify because it would be what his friend, that was killed, and his
brother would want. Another reason is that, he was in a relationship with Joey s sister who was
very distraught about his murder and wants justice for him.
So Terry went to seeit.A final reason for his testimony is because Johnny Friendly is a corrupt
person and he and his thugs were a bad influence on the people in the waterfront.
For Kazan, just like Molloy, he testified against the communist party or named names as the past
interviews would say. Within the testimony he called out the amount of people in Hollywood
whom themselves were communist. I believed it was the right thing to do, at the time, being a
member of the capitalist community while being a communist was seen as being un American and
as a traitor in everyone s eyes. He justified this doing, by saying, That I had no other reason other

Shackleton Character Analysis
Intro: What characteristics come together to form a great leader? Throughout the novel, Shipwreck
at the Bottom of the World, Sir Ernest Shackleton portrayed many key characteristics on his
expedition across the Antarctic that demonstrated good leadership. On an expedition that was as
dangerous and long as his had been, Shackleton had no other choice than to be a good leader for
his crew. Although there were many, three of the most important characteristics that Shackleton
contributed to being a good leader were motivation, positivity and optimism, and strategic thinking.

Not only did Shackleton demonstrate excellent optimism, he also remained calm, as well as
very positive throughout his exhibition. A great example from the novel written by Jennifer
Armstrong is this passage: On December 31, 1915, Shackleton wrote in his diary: The last day
of the old year: May the new one bring us good fortune, a safe deliverance from this anxious
time, and all good things to those we love so far away (65) I chose this writing from the novel to
demonstrate Shackleton s positivity because not only had his expedition took many unexpected
turns during this point of the novel, but he would also have to come up with a completely
different plan for his crew, and himself. Importantly, not only was it expected to Shackleton to
stay optimistic, it also was important for him to remain positive. Given the fact that the boss had
a whole crew depending on him, the media and people across the world waiting and wondering
what had happened, and all of their families waiting at home for them to return to, he never
revealed his stress. He was an incredible leader. While on his expedition, he demonstrated great
optimism because he was still set on his goal. Finishing his expedition was a huge priority for him,
no matter what the outcome was. Body Paragraph 3 Someone who demonstrates strategic thinking

Asscher Cut Engagement Ring
One of the most constant engagement ring trends of the moment is the Asscher cut engagement
ring. In fact, almost 1 bride in 3 in the United States is opting for a square diamond featuring the
Asscher cut. These diamonds offer a timeless vintage feel without looking old fashioned. The
square cut adds symmetry to a setting and the diamond can be set alone or surrounded with smaller
diamonds for extra sparkle and bling.
The Asscher cut is also sometimes known as a modified cushion cut, or a square emerald cut. The
distinctive feature of this sophisticated cut is the square shape with corners cut deeply to look like
an octagon. The Asscher cut has been patented by the Asscher family, and every genuine Asscher

When first picking up this novel, the thick stack of pages intimidated me, but now I want to keep

pages are the two characteristics that have lead to me enjoying The Stand, so I shall evaluate
them. First, I appreciate Steven King s style of writing. The way the author writes entertains me
because he describes the characters and settings in a way that does not bore me to death. In the
past, I have been forced to read classics like To Kill a Mockingbird and Tom Sawyer, which are
painful to read in my opinion. In comparison to the previously mentioned, King s writing is
descriptive, yet paced in a way that the story is not adulterated the writing technique. Next, the
character development is exceptional in this book. So far the first 185 pages have been character
development, and I have loved it. I have mixed feelings towards some characters; I have already
become attached to others, and then dislike the remaining. My favorite character at the moment is
Nick Andros. Being a deaf mute, it adds a certain spice to his character s interactions with

Civilism And Civilization In William Golding s Lord Of The...
Every day we hear about violence in the news, about terrorists, shooters, and robbers that we do
not associate with ourselves. However, hidden within everyone is that innate evil as is shown
through Golding s story. The novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is set on an
uninhabited island where a group of young British boys find themselves stranded without any
adults. Overcoming their joy, the boys develop a society of sorts, finding ways to survive and get
rescued. However, the civilizationdivides. Some of the boys go astray, their primitive instincts
emerging through their actions as they become more violent. The boys lose their identities as
cultured humans. They revert to the nature of pre civilization beings with the aid of the masks
they don in order to hunt as well as to identify savages. Golding develops the characters,
specifically Ralph and Jack, showing the loss of their innocence and steady maturing. However,
overly exposed to the wild, Jack and the hunters id, or their instincts unbounded by society or
morals, materializes. The id is the impulsive section of the mind that contain the inner desires and
are restricted by the ego and superego which are the consciousness. The continuous battle between
savagery, represented by the Lord of the Flies, and civilization, represented by the conch and
Piggy, is presented throughout the story as the two sides of society battle. In Golding s Lord of the
Flies, it is depicted through the actions of the boys that when separated from civilization, one s
inevitably evil nature emerges, their true attributes exposed as their ties to society dissolve.
With the assistance of the masks and the deindividuation that occurs when acting as a group, the
boys on the island lose their sense of identity. Jack and his hunters made clay masks in order to
hunt, claiming the pigs they preyed upon did not smell them but saw them. As he set the mask

A devastating 18 day, 50 mile march took place countless beaten senseless, but it was worth it.
The first Selma to Montgomery march 7 1965 bloody Sunday. The march began when a prime

Childhood Observation Report
The day is Thursday, March 16. I am at the Child Discovery Center, observing Josiah, age 8.
Josiah is part of the after school program, in room 1. The observation takes place outside, on the
school s playground. The time is 4:30 pm. Josiah starts to play a game of leprechaun tag , and he
is it. He begins to run after two other girls, his arms are lifted at his sides as he pumps them back
and forth, and he is running at a moderate pace. He is not as fast as the other children playing.
While he is chasing the girls, he comes up to a small wall. He extends his right foot, landing it on
the wall, then pushing off in one swift motion. He continues to run after the girls for a few minutes,
chasing them around the playground and avoiding objects and people. Josiah slows down to a

According to the book, children at Josiah s age should have mastered agility, balance,
coordination, power, reaction time and speed. I don t think Josiah showed any real problem area
that is concerning. I do think that he can improve more on his gross motor development, since
there s always room from growth, and I think involving him in some different gross motor
activities will help him improve even more. The book also states that children at this age should
have smooth and controlled movements. Josiah s movements were all smooth, there wasn t a time
where he struggled to do something. He is able to smoothly and effectively perform actions with
ease. Josiah will benefit from some gross motor activities to help him master all these skills. These

Analysis Of Helen Keller In The Chosen By Chaim Potok
Helen Keller was deaf and blind and even mute girl when she first came into the world. Despite
the fact, that she had several disabilities, she grew as one of the most respectable author, political
activist, and lecturer in the history. She grew well mainly because of the guidance and care of
Anne Sullivan her teacher, mentor, and leader. The story of Helen Kellerproves the importance of
admirable leader to people and individuals. In Chaim Potok s book The Chosen, Mr. Malter s wise
advice to Danny, Reb Saunders s strong will, and Mr. Galanter s heart for Reuven prove that the
three characters are excellent leaders. The characteristics that three men revealed in the story helped
those who were under their guidance.
First, Mr. Malter s wisdom to give appropriate advice in right circumstances demonstrates his
wonderful guidance. When Mr. Malter realized that Danny, the son of Reb Saunders, came to
library to read secular books, he guided him in wisdom. Danny s father Reb Saunders, a Hasidic
religious leader, forbid his son to read any other than their religious and school books. However,
Danny who had exceptionally great mind and curiosity, went to library where Mr. Malter was
working. Although he knew Reb Saunders s policy upon Danny, Mr. Malter did not stop him or...

blacks out of the big leagues. (Robinson) When he joined the Dodgers, he faced verbal and
physical threats, angry and racist fans. Even with all these people hating him, he worked hard to
be the best player he could be, not another NLB player. Robinson later said that Mr.Ricky Chosen

and focusing on the good things and people who gave him support. I had become the first black

Jackson Turner Thesis
Historian Frederick Jackson Turner wrote an essay called, The Significance of the Frontier in
American History, in which he debated about the prestige of the American democracy and culture.
Turner presented his essay at an American Historian Association in Chicago during World s Fair in
1893; even though at that time his essay was ignored, it gained remarkable recognition and was
labeled as an especially influential piece of American writing. In addition, Turner pointed out that
having cheap, vacant land has been the foundation the American democracy. The Chicago World s
Fair offered variety of American and World cultural aspects, but despite having a wide range of
cultures on display the whites of the fair were racists and labeled the African Americans as the
moral monster . Turner s thesis ignored the Natives along with their cultures and implied that the
white Christian ways should be more dominant. The United Statesattempted to actualize the Turner
thesis at the end of the 19th century by sending out missions into foreign lands, transporting out

The Common Archetypes In Ethan Frome, By Edith Wharton
The well known narrative, Ethan Frome, is often described as similar to many classic fairy tales.
Resembling most fairy tales, not only is the plot of Ethan Frome is kept simple and
straightforward, but the novel also contains a number of common archetypes often found in fairy
tales, such as a wicked witch and princess. The book s plot, however, reflects a close affinity to the
original fairy tale, Snow White. The novel, Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton easily compares to
many classic fairy tales, especially Snow White.
One of the common archetypes found in Snow White, is the evil stepmother/witch. This role fits
the character Zeena. In the original version of Snow White and the novel, Ethan Frome, both Zeena
and the Wicked Queen both fulfill the role of an older ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mattie displays a clear relation between her and the silvery maiden archetype. Not only does her

the classic film, Snow White, Snow White let s the disguised witch in not once or twice, but

Her sense of trust and foolishness lead to her death. Mattie, who is only twenty one, is described
in the narrative as lively and always happy, much like a child. One of the biggest correlations
between Mattie and Snow White is their similarity in appearance. Mattie Silver s black hair, red

film. The similarities between Mattie and Snow While are visible to the reader through their

Pirates Of The Caribbean Analysis
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, directed by Gore Verbinski, is one of the
most influential pieces of cinema in the disney movie franchise. The movie was well received
by the majority of people that viewed it. However, not everyone was as impressed with the
movie, like film critic Roger Ebert for example. While Ebert, at the time working as a film critic
for Chicago Sun Times, gave the movie three stars, there are some critiques that are incredibly
incorrect. The article focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush,
Jack Sparrow and Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable performance of
Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment of his review bashing the
action scenes and deeming them pointless based on the plot of the movie. Overall, Roger Ebert
believes the movie was decent, but went on for far too long, calling it, a nice little 90 minute B
movie trapped inside the 143 minutes of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
(rogerebert.com). There is an argument to be made about Roger Ebert s rollercoaster ride of a
review on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, especially concerning his
opinions on the performances of some of the actors and the fighting. While the performances of
Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp were indeed marvelous, Roger Ebert s opinion on the
performance of Keira Knightley could not be more wrong. Ebert describes her

Introduction. D. A. Carson Is Research Professor And Teaches
Introduction
D. A. Carson is research professor and teaches New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity
School and has written nearly fifty books on an extensive range of topics. His Christ and Culture
Revisited is a revisit of H. Richard Niebuhr s five models for seeing the relationship between Christ
and culture. The book is also a revisit of the broader question of Christ and culture in general, and
how it has dramatically changed from Niebuhr s day.
It changed primarily for three reasons: (a) the Church as it is today confronts, and, as a result of
progressions in communication, knows itself to be confronting, not a single culture (Western, say),
but very different cultures across the globe; (b) our contemporary, heightened ... Show more content

His work, for good or ill, has shaped much of the discussion (xi). Even though this is true and we
use Niebuhr s writing to understand the discussion, says Carson, it still has its flaws. It s five
options (1) Christ against Culture, (2) The Christ of Culture, (3) Christ above Culture, (4) Christ
and Culture in Paradox, and (5) Christ the Transformer of Culture come in for review and critique.
Carson looks principally at Niebuhr s use of Scripture, as it bears on his paradigm. Although
Niebuhr s is a commendable attempt to ground his configuration in the foundation documents of the
Christian faith, his effort fails in certain respects. Niebuhr s second option (The Christ of Culture),
for example, in the words of Carson, is certainly found in historical movements (those obligated to
Schleiermacher, F. D. Maurice, or Albrecht Ritschl, the cultural Christians of nineteenth century
classical theological liberalism), these movements, however, are of doubtful Christian authenticity
and have no warrant in the Bible ; and the fifth (Christ the Transformer of Culture) is found in
restricted forms in the New Testament, but certainly not in the strong form Niebuhr would like to
see adopted (40).
Evaluation
The biggest problem for Carson, however, is how Niebuhr

the surface area to volume ratio of an object affect the rate of heat loss from the object
Hypothesis: As the ratio of surface area to volume of an object decreases the rate of heat loss
from the object will also decrease. Objects with the same surface area to volume ratios loose heatat
the same rate so long as there are not other variables involved. Background Knowledge: The
surface area to volume ratioof an object is determined by dividing the surface area by the volume
and putting it into a ratio of one. e.g. A flask of volume 200cm3 and a surface area of 160cm2 will

both at 90oC bungs will be placed in the top which have thermometers running through them. Using
these thermometers the temperature will be recorded every 30 seconds for 20 minutes. This will
then be repeated. The experiment is repeated to improve the accuracy of the data. In order to
ensure a fair test the experiment will be started at the same temperature each time and will also
be allowed to run for the same length of time. Also the depth of the thermometers in each flask
will remain constant for both tests. The volume of water will be as equal as possible in both
experiments however due to human inaccuracy it is unlikely that the volumes will be exactly the
same. Hopefully any variations between experiments will be so small as to be of no
consequence. At the end of the experiment the results will be plotted in a table and the average
results will be calculated and plotted on a comparative graph so that it is possible to see any
variations between the two sets of data. Results: MinutesTemp 100cm3 1Temp 100cm3 2Temp

A Study By Brigham And Women s Hospital
A 2010 study by Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston found that one in five teens suffer from
a hearing impairment, which is an increase of 33% from 1994 (Dignan). Earbuds and headphones
have contributed to these numbers since using these at loud volumes can damage ears over time.
Earbuds and headphones have caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the
highest volume they can go.
To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking many components
to transfer the sound throughout the ear. There are three parts of an ear, the outer, middle, and inner
ear. The sound starts in the outer ear where it is heard, then transmitted through the auditory system
toward the eardrum. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many international health organizations say that this is the leading disability throughout the
world and much of it can be prevented, since many of the causes can be fixed by changing the
person s approach to it. For example, if someone is attending a concert, it would be a good idea
to get earplugs according to Susan Kaplan, an audiologist with the UC Davis health system
(Meyer). However, not many people do this and as a result, have substantial hearing loss. A
symptom of hearing loss, tinnitus, is being seen in teenagers ever increasingly suggests a study

Subjective is usually connected with hearing loss, since it means only the person experiencing
the problem can hear the sounds. There are many ways to test people to see if they have tinnitus
or some kind of hearing loss. A few ways are a physical examination of the person s head and

Throughout time, the world and its history has seen the ravages of a superiority complex based
upon a certain race or religion deeming themselves better than everyone else. No one war, race or
religion has ever come out on top nor has anyone been entirely unaffected by the oppression this
superiority complex has caused.
Maus is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Art Spiegelman. It shows Spiegelman conversing
with and recording what his father says about what he lived through being a Polish Jew and

the non Jewish Poles are seen as pigs. Maus can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spiegelman s father was treated inhumanely because of his religion while Washington was
treated unfairly due to the color of his skin. Both men wrote about what happened and how they
chose to rise above their persecution and the injustice of how they are being treated instead of
being walked all over. Vladek says in the book, The fat from the burning bodies they scooped and
poured again so everyone could burn better. (Spiegelman, Book 2, pg. 62) This scene shows the
Nazi brutality towards the treatment of the Jewish race. The Nazis torture the Jews, treating them
like animals. They strip them of any semblance of their humanity, even in death. They burned the
bodies disrespectfully, and then took what was left to burn the others. Each account of these
authors harsh lives is about something that they cannot control being hated for: color of skin and
religious choice. Both authors use their past experiences to show how racism and religious
persecution affect a person long after the fact. While reading Maus, the reader moves through
several different time periods: the pre Holocaust, the actual Holocaust, and the post Holocaust.

very different cultural contexts of a Nazi occupied Poland versus Rego Park, New York in the

The Octogonal Structure Roared from Shakespeare s Performers
This octogonal structure roared from Shakespeare s performers. The actors and the audience
throughout the performances had tears, laughter, and many left in complete awe. Every seat in this
three story theatre was packed tightly with over 30,000 eyes watching. Flags rose, and trumpets
started to play in the Globe while productions began. The Globe Theatrestarted an era of acting in
the late 1500 s and changed the way we look at performing still to this day.
This theatre was jaw dropping as people entered this salvaged wood framed theatre. In 1599, the
stage was ready for acts to begin. The name of the Globe Theatre was for people to know that the
whole round world could be represented by every actor. William Shakespearereferred to the
theatre as this wooden O (Langly). In Elizabethan times, the ground along the bankside could
flood by the Thames, so the Globe had to have solid foundations. After about 1600, as many as
15,000 people went to the city s playhouse every week.
The Globe was designed and was a hodgepodge of architectural structures. This framework held
the first performances. All actors were men. It did not matter whether the role was a woman or
man. The theatre was also one of the only social sites that brought together different classes of
people. Of this three story masterpiece there were special sections reserved for members of nobility.

When volcanoes erupt they can have some drastic but beautiful changes to the earth. The author of

it can take thousands of years of weathering for the ash and rock deposits to form a rich soil.
When they do become soils, they are often among the richest soils on earth. Volcanic soils are very

Although 12 Angry Men was produced in the late fifties it s still a great movie for any viewer to
watch. The film s intensifying conflict does not meet a twenty first century viewer s expectations
such as special effects and character development. However, it is interesting to consider how the
film has incorporated elements like coherent scenes and background music into its production. This
film provides a detailed dialogue of the characters along with character development which entices
the viewer throughout its duration.
This courthouse drama has assigned twelve men to jury duty. The viewer will find this murder case
mystifying by the underlying theme of prejudice. Although the film lacks in special effects and
providing a picturesque setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the characters have a different opinion, which requires them all to have an opposing
viewpoint. The characters use of actions is what interests the viewer as they present their
thought on what occurred during this murder. If it s not the fury from juror three then we are
following the calm, rational juror eight. As juror three raises his voice and has one of his many
mood altering moments, we are afraid that he might lose his sanity. The acting in this film goes
much further than the character s mood, a great use of acting is in the reenactment scene of
how the weapon entered the victim. As juror three takes the knife and holds it over one of the
fellow jurors and makes the motion of stabbing him we are certain this man has lost control and
let his anger take over. However, we are surprised when he stops right before contacting the other
man s body. 12 Angry Men not only has suspenseful scenes that add to the overall movie, but it
also has the emotional development that makes this film magnificent. In the closing scene, after
all men have agreed to pardon the defendant, juror three finally reaches an emotional breaking
point; however, it is not the way we anticipated. As all the other men exit the room, he is left
weeping at the table over the loss of his son. In a surprising moment, juror eight sets aside the last
few hours of fury between them and offers support to this man. While 12 Angry Men excels in
acting

The Lack of Free Speech in the Military
As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being
defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of
those freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation
of speech for a member of the militaryto be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the
armed forcescannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that
affect their lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and
soldiers have vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military
takes away from the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the
military should be mindful of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come
from, and that any display of dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason.
I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their
lives, as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put,
as Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors
and soldiers in their day to day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to
say. Most people take for granted the right to speak one s mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no
ramifications for doing so. When one

The Rubric Of Marking And Grading Students Work
One of the most commonly seen forms of marking and grading students work is the rubric. A
rubric is described by Andrade (2005) as an assessment tool that lists the criteria for a piece of
work or what counts (...) and articulates gradations of quality for each criterion, from excellent to
poor . A rubriccan be seen to act almost as a checklist in that it allows for teachers to select where
a piece of work falls against several criteria, allowing for more fair and balanced marking among
a class. Below is a rubric created to mark lessons that have been created by students to teach others
about a certain topic.

Comparing Shakespeare And Branagh s Adaptation Of As You...
As You Like It unravels one of William Shakespeare s greatest pastoral comedies. Set in France,
the play emphasizes the tension between the city and courtly world from the country or, for the
purposes of this play, the green world. Shakespeare intensifies the tension between city and country
by intertwining major themes of love and performance. Although the play begins in France, it
mostly takes place within the confines of the forest of Arden. Through her transformable identity,
Rosalind demonstrates the endless possibilities of the green world by wandering around Arden
and resolving the troubles of love and marriage. Although Shakespeare s pastoral comedy
permeates a space of nostalgia, it more or less presents a play about lovers. On the other hand,
Kenneth Branagh s 2007 film adaptation of As You Like It
presents an altered interpretation of
Shakespeare s pastoral comedy by focusing on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His blending of Japanese aspects creates an unrealistic and over theatrical sensation. The setting
displays a theatrical aspect which reminds me of the last line of the haiku, All the world s a
stage, also one of Shakespeare s most famous lines. Branagh s use of setting deepens the way I
look at the passage of time in the text. Jacques claims that all men and women are players in a
staged world; [they] have their exits and their entrances, / And one man in his time plays many
parts, / His acts being seven ages (AYLI.2.7.140 142). The setting of Branagh s film in Japan is a
set stage, which leads me to believe that Jacques statement is a set speech that unifies all plays. If
the world is a stage than this play could be set anywhere, and the occurrences and struggles can be
found anywhere in the world, not just in the city, but in the countryside too as we find true in
Arden. Branagh s use of setting blurs the boundaries between space and time between his As You

Fiscal Policy And Trade Openness On Unemployment Essay
AHMED SALIM NUHU On The Impact of Fiscal Policy and Trade Openness on Unemployment in
Namibia 1.Introduction Unemployment remains a fundamental challenge for policy makers around
the globe as it simultaneously increases poverty and threatens social stability within a country
(Goker, 2013). Even though the literature recognizes the critical role fiscal policy plays in
mitigating unemployment and stabilizing the economy (Auerbach, Gale, and Harris, 2010), the
extent to which it works effectively to achieve this remains an issue of debate amongst economists
(Coate and Battaglini, 2011). However, the massive use of fiscal policy tools by governments in the
wake of the 2008 financial crisis has, ignited a renewed interest in examining the role of fiscal
policy in promoting growth and employment (Feldstein, 2009). A cursory survey at the literature
however, reveals a lack of consensus on the fiscal policy unemployment debate. For example, using
a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with search and matching frictions, Gomes (2010)
found mixed responses of unemployment to different fiscal shocks. Bruckner and Pappa (2012)
found that an increase in government consumption expenditure usually causes higher
unemployment whilst Fatas and Mihov (2001) in their study of the United States economy and
more recently, Unal, (2015) in his study of the Netherlands economy and, found that higher
government consumption was an incentive for increases in employment. These heterogeneous

Why Is The 1832 Parliamentary Reform Act Effective
The 1832 Parliamentary Reform Act was the beginning of electoral reform in Britain. The Act
increased the size of the electorate, abolished some rotten boroughs and provided more
representation for those who lived in metropolitan areas of Britain. The Parliamentary Reform
Bill is a useful primary source when looking at how the electoral system changed in Britain
because it shows exactly how the electoral system changed in Britain. However, it is not able to
show what effect the act had on the British people, who supported or opposed the Act and the Act
does not show how corrupt the old system was. The 1832 Reform Act is a useful Primary source
because it shows how the House of Commons was reformed by the Act. The Reform Act of 1832

Affirmative Action Reality
The Reality of Affirmative Action Have you ever thought how our educational system works?
Many people believe that race has nothing to do with the way people view them and don t think
that this affects them in any aspect. Others believe that race is just something people overlook but
in reality that s what we have to discuss and figure out today. Under our constitution every person
who is legally able to be here has the right to be treated equal as everyone else. Why is that the way
someone looks or where their from affects the way people judge them. A system called Affirmative
Actions has been used to promote access in opportunities dealing with education, employment,
housing, and government contracts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now this example has been proven and researched so it is based of off facts. This leads us to
believe that this impacts in a negative way. The affirmative action is a type of discriminationin a
way because not all people benefit from it, so a lot of people are being excluded. Just because
someone is not necessarily caucasian it doesn t mean that they are not equal to them. Minorities are
the most targeted in these cases and no one does anything to help them because they believe that if
they do they can get affected by what might happen. So people have allowed that things like
affirmative action to occur without really knowing what it actually does and how this affects

The Executive Branch Of Government
The Executive Branch and the Presidents The Executive Branch is the branch of government that

States. The President of the United States has seven roles that he must fill as President. These
roles are the Chief of State, Chief Executive, Commander in Chief, Legislative leader, Chief of
Party, Guardian of economy and Chief Diplomat. In these roles, the President awards metals to
college scholarship winners, makes a patriotic speech on the Fourth of July and enforces the law.

Interview With A Interview Protocol
An interview protocol was utilized in this study. This instrument was designed to keep the face to
face interview on track and effective. So, for that reason, the questions for this interview were
determined by trying to create an instrument that would lead to the answers to the research
questions.
An interview protocol with semi structured questions was used with the interview protocol.
Likewise, the data collection consisted of 10 interviews that were conducted during the spring
session of 2010. The interview protocol allowed the participants to express their perceptions and
opinions in their own words. Also, the protocol helped to minimize leading or directing participants

Question 12 through 16, 20, and 24 were designed to address Research Question 4: What challenges
are African American female secondary school educators challenged within their relationship with
their administrator with regard to inequities, gender, and teacher education issues?
After the completion of the face to face interviews, the researcher contacted the participants via the
telephone for a brief thank you and gave the participants the opportunity to express any other
thoughts that they had. The goal of this interview protocol was to allow respondents to tell their
own experiences as seen through the eyes of the participants. Similarly, the primary goal of the
interview protocol was to develop a theory of persevering through the use of semi structured
questions, allowing the participants the flexibility to frame and structure their responses. Not to
mention, the fundamental component of this qualitative research was that the phenomenon under
study would unfold through the participant s eyes.
Data Analysis
The researcher relied heavily on the transcripts for analyzing the data. In light of this, the researcher
employed constant comparison of participants responses with the goal of organizing the data into

  • 2. A Report On The Los Penasquitos Trail In late October our class explored the Los Penasquitos Trail in Sorrento Valley and collected samples of the area s vegetation, water sources and soil. We hiked early in the morning on a dry, dirt trail surrounded by drought resistant landscaping. The soil samples for this experiment were collected from the descending end of a hill leading down to the Wagon Creek Bridge. It was our assumption that this area would have more microorganisms because of the increased foot traffic. The purpose of this report is to discuss the bacteriawe discovered in our soil sample. The samples were kept in plastic tubes with a closed lid until we were ready for analysis. One gram of the soil was measured out from the tube and mixed with 20ml of deionized water. A serial dilution was prepared consisting of five glass test tubes filled with 9ml of culture broth. Afterwards, 1ml of the soil was piped from the center of the sample and placed into the first tube of the serial dilution. We lightly capped each tube and incubated the sample under a ventilation hood at room temperature (~24ВєC) for 48 hours. After the incubation period the samples were mixed well will a vortex. We then piped 1ml of the first dilution into the second dilution and mixed thoroughly with the vortex. This process was repeated with remainder of the dilutions.. Streak plates were prepared in petri dishes filled with premade nutrient agar and 100Вµl of the third, fourth and fifth dilutions. We streaked an additional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon Victoria Sirianni Ms. Thompson AP ELA 4 21 July 2015 Song of Solomon Producing the plot with a vivid image and motive allowed Toni Morrison to incorporate numerous literary works to enhance the allusions in the story. These specific allusions gave readers a more accurate understanding of certain aspects of the book. As well as this, readers are capable of searching beyond just the surface of what the words say. The common use of biblical references and myths, as well as other notations, provide a more in depth and detailed analyzation throughout the entire novel. To start off, Song of Solomon s title relates to the biblical book of the same name. This emphasizes that the novel addresses more of an old aged theme. The bible based book focuses on a conversation between two lovers and Toni s novel is a celebration of the success of earthly love. Morrison also gives her characters biblical names in order to match them with the well known figures. These characters not only obtain their original history, but the history that their name carries in the Bible, as well. For example, the biblical character, Hagar, is Sarah s handmaiden, who bears Sarah s husband a son and is then banished from his sight. Similar to the previous one mentioned, Morrison s character is often used by Milkman. He takes advantage of everything she has to offer and uses it for his own selfish benefits. He seems to regret ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Biblical Texts Of The Jewish People For the Jewish people, Jerusalem has long been regarded as a special city, chosen by God as he chose the people of Israel. The importance of Jerusalem in the Jewish religious tradition can be traced back to the Hebrew Bible, in which narratives describe the events which make the city sacred. However, these events alone do not make Jerusalema sacred place; the biblical texts also work together to portray the importance and holiness of Yahweh, the Godof Israel. The concept of sacredness is also highlighted by Mircea Eliade, who theorized about how a sacred place comes into existence. The biblical texts support Eliade s ideas of the sacred by narrating repeated hierophanies and promises, working together to reveal the importance of the divine to the people of ancient Israel. Eliade s primary concept is that of the axis mundi, around which everything else revolves. An axis mundi is a connection between earth and the supernatural, where humans and the cosmic can come together (Eliade, 37). Becoming sacred, according to Eliade, is made possible through a hierophany, an experience through which the divine manifests itself (21). This hierophany sets a place apart, creating a break in homogeneity that separates it from the profane (Eliade, 63). He also emphasizes the idea that sacredness makes a place real, and becomes a fixed point, a point of reference that people align their whole world to (Eliade, 22). A hierophany opens up the very possibility of a connection with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Genesis 25 Thesis Genesis 25 is primarily written in prose, but God s words to Rebekah about her pregnancy emphasize the importance of what he is saying to her and the fate of her sons. The poem reads, Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples born of you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger (Gen. 25:23). God has foretold that the two brothers will have numerous descendants that are able to form two nations, but he doesn t explain why they will be in conflict. As is common in the Bible the youngest son achieves superiority over his elder brother. There is an odd choice of words in this poem though. By saying that Esauwill serve Jacobit implies that he will forever be in his shadow, however they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rereading it though he does have a point to be this way, Jacob received the best blessing from his father and when begged to also get a blessing Isaac gave Esau a rather harsh and pitiful one. What was said in Jacob s blessing was the complete opposite for Esau. The word serve is also mentioned in this poem, Isaac is telling Esau you shall serve your brother (Gen. 27:40), but there is no further evidence that ever supports this claim that he does serve Jacob, unless both God and Isaac were not literally talking about the brothers but the two nations they establish. Verse 40 also supports this idea with Isaac s phrasing of, and you shall serve your brother; but when you break loose, you shall break his yoke from your neck. • 7. The American Dream in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller The struggle for financial security and success has always been prominent in the American culture. The idea of the American dream captures the hearts of so many, yet leaves almost all of them enslaved in the endless economic struggle to achieve high status, wealth, and a house with a white picket fence. In Arthur Miller s, Death of a Salesman, we see how difficult it is for Willy Loman and his sons to achieve this so called American dream. In Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin in the Sun, she examines an African American family s struggle to break out of the poverty that is preventing them from achieving some sort of financial stability, or in other words the American dream. Both plays explore the desire for wealth, driving forces that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When considering Willy s circumstance, he insists that he is crucial to the company he works for, if old man Wagner was alive I d a been in charge of New York now (Miller pg. 4) and that he should be a leader by now rather than simply being an employee. These quotes exemplify the idea that believing you deserve better than you currently have is a powerful force that encourages the struggle for the American dream. A final major similarity between the two plays is the fact that both of the men face prejudice for things that they cannot control. For Walter, a prejudice exists because of his skin color. He dreams of having the same opportunities as the white men and in this quote he expresses that to his mother Mama sometimes when I m downtown, I pass them cool quiet looking restaurants where them white boys are sitting back and talking bout things...sitting there turning deals worth millions of dollars (Hansberry pg. 74). Death of a Salesman only features white characters, however, a different type of prejudice is shown in the play. Because Willy is much older now, he doesn t feel like he possess the energy or the capacity to continue making long trips. Wells The Red Room As with all things, the gothic horror genre of literature did not begin at one definable point, but evolved gradually. Gothic horror evolved out of gothic fiction (as opposed to classical fiction, for example the novels of Jane Austen), before establishing itself as a genre in its own right. However, many literary scholars and critics would point to The Castle of Otranto , written by Horace Walpole and first published in 1764, as the first true gothic horror novel, containing as it does many of the clichs prevalent throughout the genre. Gothic horror novels are typified by their dark, lachrymose atmosphere of dread and fear. In fact, the key to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are very important to the gothic feel, and are sometimes augmented by hidden passages and spiral staircases. In The Woman In Black, the main location is an old, isolated, haunted house in the middle of a marsh, even supplemented with an abandoned graveyard for full gothic effect. The castle setting of The Red Room is more traditional for the gothic horror genre, in fact it contains many classic clichs of the genre, such as suits of amour, spiral staircases and underground tunnels. These environments are designed to build up an oppressive atmosphere, and increase the tension even in calm, natural parts of the story. This tension and sense of an oppressive atmosphere is one of the key elements in gothic horror stories. Everything is done to add to this atmosphere. One of the most common tricks is to create a sense of alienation and isolation. One definition of alienation is separation resulting from hostility, ant this is very pertinent to the gothic horror genre; in many books and stories, the narrator feels that people aren t telling him everything, and are acting against him (though they are often working to help him), for instance in The Woman in Black, when the landlord at the Crythin Arms is evasive about the Drablow family, Arthur Kipps says I was curious and a little irritated by his manner, a sentiment repeated throughout the text. Overcoming their joy, the boys develop a society of sorts, finding ways to survive and get rescued. However, the civilizationdivides. Some of the boys go astray, their primitive instincts emerging through their actions as they become more violent. The boys lose their identities as cultured humans. They revert to the nature of pre civilization beings with the aid of the masks they don in order to hunt as well as to identify savages. Golding develops the characters, specifically Ralph and Jack, showing the loss of their innocence and steady maturing. However, overly exposed to the wild, Jack and the hunters id, or their instincts unbounded by society or morals, materializes. The id is the impulsive section of the mind that contain the inner desires and are restricted by the ego and superego which are the consciousness. The continuous battle between savagery, represented by the Lord of the Flies, and civilization, represented by the conch and Piggy, is presented throughout the story as the two sides of society battle. In Golding s Lord of the Flies, it is depicted through the actions of the boys that when separated from civilization, one s inevitably evil nature emerges, their true attributes exposed as their ties to society dissolve. With the assistance of the masks and the deindividuation that occurs when acting as a group, the boys on the island lose their sense of identity. Jack and his hunters made clay masks in order to hunt, claiming the pigs they preyed upon did not smell them but saw them. As he set the mask upon himself, [Jack] began to dance and his laughter became a bloodthirsty snarling (Golding, 64) The mask was what Jack hid [behind], liberated from shame and self consciousness, (64) As Jack puts his mask on for the first time, it foreshadows the future violence that will come. The movie was well received by the majority of people that viewed it. However, not everyone was as impressed with the movie, like film critic Roger Ebert for example. While Ebert, at the time working as a film critic for Chicago Sun Times, gave the movie three stars, there are some critiques that are incredibly incorrect. The article focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, Jack Sparrow and Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable performance of Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment of his review bashing the action scenes and deeming them pointless based on the plot of the movie. Overall, Roger Ebert believes the movie was decent, but went on for far too long, calling it, a nice little 90 minute B movie trapped inside the 143 minutes of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (rogerebert.com). Carson is research professor and teaches New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and has written nearly fifty books on an extensive range of topics. His Christ and Culture Revisited is a revisit of H. Richard Niebuhr s five models for seeing the relationship between Christ and culture. The book is also a revisit of the broader question of Christ and culture in general, and how it has dramatically changed from Niebuhr s day. It changed primarily for three reasons: (a) the Church as it is today confronts, and, as a result of progressions in communication, knows itself to be confronting, not a single culture (Western, say), but very different cultures across the globe; (b) our contemporary, heightened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His work, for good or ill, has shaped much of the discussion (xi). Even though this is true and we use Niebuhr s writing to understand the discussion, says Carson, it still has its flaws. It s five options (1) Christ against Culture, (2) The Christ of Culture, (3) Christ above Culture, (4) Christ and Culture in Paradox, and (5) Christ the Transformer of Culture come in for review and critique. Carson looks principally at Niebuhr s use of Scripture, as it bears on his paradigm. Although Niebuhr s is a commendable attempt to ground his configuration in the foundation documents of the Christian faith, his effort fails in certain respects. Niebuhr s second option (The Christ of Culture), for example, in the words of Carson, is certainly found in historical movements (those obligated to Schleiermacher, F. D. Maurice, or Albrecht Ritschl, the cultural Christians of nineteenth century classical theological liberalism), these movements, however, are of doubtful Christian authenticity and have no warrant in the Bible ; and the fifth (Christ the Transformer of Culture) is found in restricted forms in the New Testament, but certainly not in the strong form Niebuhr would like to see adopted (40). Objects with the same surface area to volume ratios loose heatat the same rate so long as there are not other variables involved. Background Knowledge: The surface area to volume ratioof an object is determined by dividing the surface area by the volume and putting it into a ratio of one. e.g. A flask of volume 200cm3 and a surface area of 160cm2 will have a surface area to volume ratio of: 160 : 1... In order to ensure a fair test the experiment will be started at the same temperature each time and will also be allowed to run for the same length of time. Also the depth of the thermometers in each flask will remain constant for both tests. The volume of water will be as equal as possible in both experiments however due to human inaccuracy it is unlikely that the volumes will be exactly the same. Earbuds and headphones have contributed to these numbers since using these at loud volumes can damage ears over time. Earbuds and headphones have caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the highest volume they can go. To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking many components to transfer the sound throughout the ear. • 42. Textual Analysis Of 12 Angry Men Although 12 Angry Men was produced in the late fifties it s still a great movie for any viewer to watch. The film s intensifying conflict does not meet a twenty first century viewer s expectations such as special effects and character development. However, it is interesting to consider how the film has incorporated elements like coherent scenes and background music into its production. This film provides a detailed dialogue of the characters along with character development which entices the viewer throughout its duration. This courthouse drama has assigned twelve men to jury duty. The viewer will find this murder case mystifying by the underlying theme of prejudice. Although the film lacks in special effects and providing a picturesque setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All the characters have a different opinion, which requires them all to have an opposing viewpoint. The characters use of actions is what interests the viewer as they present their thought on what occurred during this murder. If it s not the fury from juror three then we are following the calm, rational juror eight. As juror three raises his voice and has one of his many mood altering moments, we are afraid that he might lose his sanity. The acting in this film goes much further than the character s mood, a great use of acting is in the reenactment scene of how the weapon entered the victim. As juror three takes the knife and holds it over one of the fellow jurors and makes the motion of stabbing him we are certain this man has lost control and let his anger take over. However, we are surprised when he stops right before contacting the other man s body. 12 Angry Men not only has suspenseful scenes that add to the overall movie, but it also has the emotional development that makes this film magnificent. In the closing scene, after all men have agreed to pardon the defendant, juror three finally reaches an emotional breaking point; however, it is not the way we anticipated. As all the other men exit the room, he is left weeping at the table over the loss of his son. In a surprising moment, juror eight sets aside the last few hours of fury between them and offers support to this man. While 12 Angry Men excels in acting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Lack of Free Speech in the Military As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech for a member of the militaryto be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed forcescannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason. I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives, as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and soldiers in their day to day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say. Most people take for granted the right to speak one s mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no ramifications for doing so. When one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Comparing Shakespeare And Branagh s Adaptation Of As You... As You Like It unravels one of William Shakespeare s greatest pastoral comedies. Set in France, the play emphasizes the tension between the city and courtly world from the country or, for the purposes of this play, the green world. Shakespeare intensifies the tension between city and country by intertwining major themes of love and performance. Although the play begins in France, it mostly takes place within the confines of the forest of Arden. Through her transformable identity, Rosalind demonstrates the endless possibilities of the green world by wandering around Arden and resolving the troubles of love and marriage. Although Shakespeare s pastoral comedy permeates a space of nostalgia, it more or less presents a play about lovers. On the other hand, Kenneth Branagh s 2007 film adaptation of As You Like It presents an altered interpretation of Shakespeare s pastoral comedy by focusing on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His blending of Japanese aspects creates an unrealistic and over theatrical sensation. The setting displays a theatrical aspect which reminds me of the last line of the haiku, All the world s a stage, also one of Shakespeare s most famous lines. Branagh s use of setting deepens the way I look at the passage of time in the text. Jacques claims that all men and women are players in a staged world; [they] have their exits and their entrances, / And one man in his time plays many parts, / His acts being seven ages (AYLI.2.7.140 142). The setting of Branagh s film in Japan is a set stage, which leads me to believe that Jacques statement is a set speech that unifies all plays. If the world is a stage than this play could be set anywhere, and the occurrences and struggles can be found anywhere in the world, not just in the city, but in the countryside too as we find true in Arden. • 48. Fiscal Policy And Trade Openness On Unemployment Essay AHMED SALIM NUHU On The Impact of Fiscal Policy and Trade Openness on Unemployment in Namibia 1.Introduction Unemployment remains a fundamental challenge for policy makers around the globe as it simultaneously increases poverty and threatens social stability within a country (Goker, 2013). Even though the literature recognizes the critical role fiscal policy plays in mitigating unemployment and stabilizing the economy (Auerbach, Gale, and Harris, 2010), the extent to which it works effectively to achieve this remains an issue of debate amongst economists (Coate and Battaglini, 2011). However, the massive use of fiscal policy tools by governments in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis has, ignited a renewed interest in examining the role of fiscal policy in promoting growth and employment (Feldstein, 2009). A cursory survey at the literature however, reveals a lack of consensus on the fiscal policy unemployment debate. For example, using a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with search and matching frictions, Gomes (2010) found mixed responses of unemployment to different fiscal shocks. Bruckner and Pappa (2012) found that an increase in government consumption expenditure usually causes higher unemployment whilst Fatas and Mihov (2001) in their study of the United States economy and more recently, Unal, (2015) in his study of the Netherlands economy and, found that higher government consumption was an incentive for increases in employment. Under our constitution every person who is legally able to be here has the right to be treated equal as everyone else.
