Good Guys And Bad Guys Essay

Jason Molloy
Good Guys and Bad Guys Jimmy Conway and Sam Ace Rothstein, two of the most charismatic
characters in their respective films, are a lot more alike than they seem. Without actually analyzing
and going in depth with both characters, you could see why they both come off more different
than alike. First off, and a huge noticeable difference, is Jimmy s love life compared to Sam s love
life. Jimmy has no attachments to the ladies. Although the real James Conway was married, the
character portrayed by Robert De Niro was not. Portraying no love life in the film Goodfellas
really made Conway stand out from all the other supporting characters. Sam, on the other hand,
had Ginger. Ginger used up Sam like he was a human ATM machine and took advantage of every
bit of generosity Sam had in him. During the last act of the movie when Sam is throwing Ginger s
clothes around and telling her to get out you can tell that he was just acting out of emotion due to
the betrayal he had experienced. This scene was the perfect example of a falling out between ...

Jimmy, on one hand, is the antagonist viewed as the real bad guy , whereas Sam is the
antagonist viewed as the good guy . Now, obviously they are both involved with the mob which
automatically gives them the antagonist status. However, Sam is a very giving person and
caring person as you can see by how he treats his wife and daughter. With all of the disrespect he
receives from his wife he still takes it and moves on about his business. Although this gives Sam
a nice guy stance it also makes him look like a doormat, something Jimmy is most certainly not.
With all of the people that Jimmy had whacked, most, if not all the people that helped him with
his scores, you can tell what kind of person Jimmy is. Plain and simple, Jimmy Conway is a selfish,
user and abuser, far from Sam s

The Effects Of Malaria On African Continent And Is...
Malaria is a life threatening disease that is caused by plasmodium parasites transmitted from
female mosquitos when they bite a human. The plasmodium parasite can also be transmitted by
blood products like unclean needles or unscreened blood. There are five parasite species
(Plasmodium, falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae) that cause malaria
in humans, and two
of these species, P. falciparum and P. vivax, are the greatest threat (see Figure 1). The severity of
malaria is based on the species of plasmodium. The symptoms people experience include chills,
fever, and sweating usually occurring within a few weeks after being bitten. In the United
States, it is a very rare disease with fewer than 20,000 cases per year, and is treatable by a
medical professional. However, Sub Saharan Africa is home to 88% of malaria cases and 90%
of malaria deaths. P. falciparum is the most prevalent parasite on the African continent and is
responsible for most malaria related deaths globally. P. vivax is more widely distributed than P.
falciparum and predominates in most countries outside of Africa. In the 1970s and 1980s,
resistance of P. falciparum started in medicines, such as chloroquine and sulfadoxine
pyrimethamine (SP). Drug resistance has been implicated in the spread of malaria to new areas
and re emergence of malaria in areas where the disease had been eradicated. Population movement
has introduced resistant parasites to areas previously free of drug resistance. Resistance is

The Mistreatment Of Left-Handeded People
When you hear the word sinistra , what word does it sound close to? It sounds closely to the
word sinister and with that you think sinistra means dark or evil. However, sinistra s meaning
has no thing to do with darkness or evil; it is Latin for left or left handed. With this
misunderstanding of the word sinistra and other reasons, left handed people faced years of social
and religious oppression. Hello, I m Josh Haxton a lefty and I have always been curious about the
history of left handers. Through my research, I was able to end by curiosity. Today I m going to
inform you of the history of left handednessand famous left handed people in history.
Left Handedness is defined as having the left hand more dominant or effective than the right.
However the dominant use of the left hand was not acceptable for many centuries. In the article
Right, Left, Right, Wrong! , Luke Mastin describes that from the 13th century till the 20th century,
left handed faced inhumane treatment. The beginning of this maltreatment started in the 13th
century when the Catholic Church rose to power. During this time, books and paintings began to
damage left handed people s reputation. In the book The Puzzle of Left Handedness Rik Smits
states that one of things that tarnished their reputation, was European art depicting the Devil and
his accomplices as left handed. As a result, left handers soon became seen as people in league with
the Devil. As centuries passed the tension between right handers and left handers stayed the same
until the 15th century and 16th century. During this period, the Inquisition, a period of suppression

Political Correctness Vs Freedom Of Speech
Political Correctness vs Freedom of Speech Political correctness is the idea that certain words,
policies, or opinions are too offensive and taboo that they should be censored. While this
definition may seem unfair, that is exactly what it is. This idea of being politically correct is on
the rise in America, with various factions and sides taking advantage of it. Most notedly, it has
taken effect in such areas such as the media, academia, and industry. In these areas, employees,
students, or any subject in question may be put to the test of whether or not their views are in
line with politically correct guidelines. In many of these incidents, the subject in question may be
reprimanded, ostracized, or otherwise punished for their crimes of thought or expression. This is
a hotly debated topic in America, with both sides of the debate passionately disputing the worth
of such a thing. Due to its widespread influence, it is debated in nearly every aspect of American
life. Some feel that is necessary, as it protects minorities, women, or any group that may be
discriminated against from offense and or hateful speech . Others feel that it is a clear assault on
freedom of speechand disproportionately punishes those for trivial comments or opinions where no
true offense should be taken. In this essay, the clear and present danger that political correctness
poses to our First Amendment right to freedom of speech and expression will be proven and
explained in vivid

Aaron Hernandez
Why Did Aaron Hernandez Kill Odin Lloyd?
Aaron Hernandez a very youthful accomplished NFL player with a 40 million dollar contract will
now be serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. This is all due to him being
convicted of murdering long term companion Odin Lloyd. In June of 2013 Lloyd was shot seven
times and found dead near the player s home. The prosecution had prodigious and significant
amounts of evidence against Hernandez. Surveillance video ten minutes after the murder shows
surveillance of Aaron in his own home walking with what resembles a gun. Text messages from
Lloyd and Hernandez shows intent from them meeting up with each other that same momentous
night. The only part missing out of this case in the motive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One example is the image on Hernandez holding a black object that appeared to be a gun.
Although no one could tell for sure what this object was, more than likely it was a gun. The
prosecution had government experts and lay witnesses to present to the jurors that this was
more than likely a gun. Other evidence introduced was a pair of red sneakers earlier on in the
trial. Jurors didn t know what was so important about this evidence but once the prosecution
explained about the foot tracks later on this made sense. So the jury had to go back to the
evidence that they were presented earlier and put the clues together to perceive the evidence.
Now the million dollar question is why this talented NFL player committed such crimes with a
40 million dollar contract at risk. What happened that made him so angry? Odin Lloyd knew a
lot about Hernandez it seems that the more people know about him the more suspicious he gets.
Aaron seems to have a paranoid type of personality partly from his drug usage with angle dust
and marijuana. His brain doesn t function properly while he is on these drug making him quickly
flustered and always thinking someone is out to get him or disrespect him. This successful NFL
player is convicted of murdering his close friend also he is fighting two more first degree murder
charges. Also a lawsuit for shooting on of his friends

Eradicating the Deaf-World Essays
Eradicating the Deaf World
Just like members of other minorities, such as Hispanics and African Americans, Deaf people
experience some of the same oppression and hardships. Although the attempts to fix members of
and obliterate the DEAF WORLD are not as highly publicized as problems with other minorities,
they still exist. Throughout time, hearing people have been trying to destroy the DEAF WORLD
with the eugenics movement, the mainstreaming of Deaf children into public hearing schools, and
cochlear implants.
Overall, the eugenics movement was meant to discourage Deaf people from socializing,
intermarrying, and reproducing with each other. But these goals are very much unachievable. When
Deaf children are growing up in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the fact that laws were passed to sterilize Deaf people shows again the attempts to do away
with Deaf people and the DEAF WORLD. Even as recently as 1992, researchers at Boston
University claimed to find the gene responsible for a common type of inherited deafness. The
director essentially stated that these findings would lead to genetic engineering, which in essence,
would eradicate many Deaf people. These researchers want to insert genetic material to prevent
hereditary hearing impairment (Lane, 1996:385). Really, they want to stop deafness before it starts.
The eugenics movement takes on many forms, but they are all aimed at destroying the DEAF
WORLD.
Mainstreaming Deaf children into hearing public schools, with or without interpreters, has the
potential to abolish the DEAF WORLD. A Deaf child s natural language is American Sign
Language. Therefore, they should be exposed to and taught as much ASL in school as possible.
When Deaf children are mainstreamed into public schools, they lost contact with other Deaf
children with whom they can associate and sign with. Many Deaf adults have remained friends
with people they met while attending residential schools. For parents that have children with other
disabilities, mainstreaming has an inherent attraction, but the

Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes
Ted hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water
lily painting looked like. In all of his works, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make
the reader understand it by using nature as the key. The task in this poem is presented by the title
How To Paint A Water Lily . The reason he wrote this poem, was to describe nature by decorating
the spirit of the environment around the lily. The two literary techniques that will be discussed in
this paper are imagery and alliteration.
Ted Hughes is using his words to inform the painter in a way that describes everything else but
the lily. The painter is on a mission to create a painted depiction of a water lily in a pond. Ted
Hughes is very fond of nature as he mentions various aspects of nature to create many images in
our minds. However, the main aspect of the poem is surprisingly not the flower; it was the
dragonfly. The dragonfly appears for the second time in stanza 3. First observe the air s dragonfly
That eats meat, that bullets by . The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2 7 because of its role it
plays on the environment. The reader and the painter may wonder What does the dragonfly have to
do with the water lily? but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem.
The first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique
found in Ted Hughes poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help readers
visualize the work better. While Ted is describing the environment around the lily, he describes
the action of the dragonflies as Rainbow their arcs, spark, or settle. which makes you visualize
the dragonflies arching their backs as if they were about to fly full speed, seeing a spark happen
from the light reflecting off of their shiny wings. The part about settle is about how the
dragonflies probably fly away or land on the lily when they are done fighting. The details that
were just described were not stated in the poem, it s just what was visualized after reading these
words. There are many other examples of imagery in the poem. The first stanza says A green level
of lily leaves Roofs the pond s chamber and paves The flies

Thurgood Marshall s impact and influence started at a young age with the development and
guidance from his parents, William and Norma. They taught both he and his brother the
importance of education and to think and learn. It was his father that exposed Thurgood and his

often get both of them engaged in discussions concerning cases observed in the court and
promoted the need to debate their case. Both their parents were engaged in the boys lives an

Dracula Compared To Modern Society
Why are people so obsessed with vampires today that they go crazy over any book, movie, or tv
show that has a vampire? In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the
empire expanding. Britain had conquered huge expanses of land from Africa, Asia, and North
America and used the land for military and economic power. The rise of the United States and
European powers threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this
was occurring a rise in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant
from the easternmost edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders.
A year after Dracula published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien
invasion novel The War of the World s. When comparing vampires adaptation to modern society vs.
victorian society one can see the difference between sex, culture, and tradition through Bram Stoker
s, Dracula. In the time period Dracula was written victorian women either had two choices, be a
wife and mother or be a virgin and pure if she was neither of these she was considered a whore
and had no consequence to society. In Dracula Lucy was seen as a whore, her physical beauty
captivated each of her suitors and displayed a comfort playfulness about her desirability. Why can
t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this trouble? (Bram Stoker
__). To Lucy it did not matter how she was

Acute Inflammation
Acute Inflammation
The survival of all organisms requires that they eliminate foreign invaders, such as infectious
pathogens, and damaged tissues. These functions are mediated by a complex host response called
inflammation.
Definition of inflammation Inflammation is fundamentally a protective response, the ultimate goal
of which is to rid the organism of both the initial cause of cell injury (e.g., microbes, toxins) and the
consequences of such injury (e.g., necrotic cells and tissues)
The process of inflammation is usually described by the suffix itis

Chaos in Ukraine
War, chaos, depression, and corruption are some of the words to describe the chaos in Ukraine.
Since the 3 billion Eurobond lent to Ukraine by Russia weren t paid off the money, revolution was
sparked within the citizens of Ukraine and slowly erupting into something many people fear will
start another catastrophic event in Europe. Even with the strong support of NATO, the North
Atlantic Treaty Organization; Ukraine has but only two options, to move to E.U. or to move to the
support of Russia, and the citizens are divided in half, the east and west, one side wanting to
merge with Russia and the other wanting to merge with E.U.. And with Russia already annexing
Crimea, which is located below Ukraine and Russia has tens of thousands troops lined up on the
border and NATO not knowing what they should do, Ukraine is up in flames. Also with the
president of Ukraine Yanokovych leaving and rejecting office unofficially to escape, leaving the
balance of Ukraine in the hand of new president Oleksandr Twrchynov in charge of the disaster
of what is now leading to an official civil war. The question is who is going to take action and
when? NATO wanting to prevent a potential World War really doesn t have any idea what they
should do. And what does Russia even want from Ukraine? E.U. is trying to do everything
possible to not take action, but from news reporters perspectives, these events could also relate to
1939 when Hitler took over all these nations and said the reason was that he

Essay about Ritz Hotel
Executive Summary
This essay looks at the Ritz Carlton hotel operations, marketing strategies and service qualities. The
essay will also include the transformational process model (including inputs and outputs) like shown
in the Hospitality Operations A system approach book by Ball et al. (2003), also market
segmentation, differentiation and position in the market. The information was obtained from
different literature such as academic journals and topic related books.

By using the transformational process model which is shown below (input transformation output)

This is suggested from the Nancy and Harvey Heffner experience. When the couple s son became
sick hotel staff brought him tea at all hours of night. This implies that all departments (restaurant,
reception, room service) were involved and worked very closely with each other to provide this
service.
The feedback is very important part in the transformational process as it allows continues
improvement to be made after receiving customers feedbacks. This therefore will inevitably
minimise any complaints in the future. The examples of collecting feedback from the customers
can be by surveys of departing guests, comment cards, telephone surveys, oral feedback between the
customer and the staff. Some 94% report that they ve had a truly memorable experience. (case
study)
In hotel operations there is a balance between the facilities and staff as one cannot function without
another. When looking at the model above, the transformation processes such as materials,
information and customers are closely connected with the nature of its transformed input resources.
Ritz Carlton s operations, processes their materials such as food, linen etc. in order to give services

Charlie has been witness to rape, molest, abuse and the gay community. The Rocky Horror
Picture Show is mentioned throughout the novel as it provides the characters with a place
where they can let go and be themselves, without reservation and without judgment. Every
Friday the characters come together to watch and act out the show. This is an important place
for Patrick as he regularly plays the role of Frank N Furter, the transvestite in the film. Patrick is
open about his homosexuality, but cannot make his relationship with Brad public. Through
participation Patrick becomes truly liberated on stage as it allows him to be his true self.
Another example where the show has enhanced sexuality is when Charlie is asked to perform as
Rocky. The character enables Charlie to embody a more sexual version of himself, as it allows
him to temporarily leave behind his emotional baggage. Charlie in a letter describes his

character allowed Charlie to express and embrace his sexuality without overthinking his actions.

the Black man in this country was labeled as a civil rights struggle, and as such it remained
completely within the jurisdiction of the United States. You and I could get no kind of benefits

Inhibit Moral Behavior
A moral inhibitor is a condition that hinders our moral behavior and leads to acting irrationally. It
arises when the right thing to do, and the action that is being performed are not the same. In the
next 600 words, I will present and explain a heuristic that inhibits moral behavior. I will then
speak of a situation that is an example of a heuristic. I will also describe what steps to take in the
described situation to help ensure moralbehavior. Moral behavior is an aspect of our humanity that
is essentially learned at a very young age. Our moral behavior is sculpted based on our culture and
our surroundings. It is responsible for the actions we choose to commit. When our moral behavior
is inhibited, we stray away from the right thing to do and act in ways that would seem malicious
and cruel to a rational bystander. Social and situational context can explain what induces moral
people to act in heinous ways. A heuristic is a mental shortcut that readily comes to mind and
simplifies cognitive tasks. The solution itself is not perfect or guaranteed to be optimal, but it is
enough to satisfy the immediate goals (1). A heuristic affects moral behavior by invoking automatic
evaluations, which strongly influence judgements and actions and can... Show more content on

Explain The Paradox Of Thrift
Macroeconomics Problem Set
Critical thinking: Paradoxes in Macroeconomics. The Macro/Micro difference
We are, in short, temporarily on the other side of the looking glass. The combination of the
liquidity trap even a zero interest rate isn t low enough to restore full employment and the overhang
of excessive debt has landed us in a world of paradoxes, a world in which virtue is vice and
prudence is folly, and most of the things serious people demand that we do actually make our
situation worse .
Introduction
I will briefly explain about what I am going to do in the essay. o Response to the title o Give some
history about the three paradoxes o Give a brief assessment of what is happening in the economy.
Point 1
Paradox of Thrift o Paradox of thrift: is a theory, which states if everyone tries to save moneyat the

else.
However there are also occasions when savings can benefit the economy. o For instance if people
save in the economy, it could lead to future wealth. Because if people place more money into the
bank. The banks will be able to lend money to businesses, who can invest money on machinery,
which will then create the money multiplier.

Religion Vs Religion
How religion is represented and interpreted in America is continuously evolving. The Apollo II
moon landing brought about a renewed interpretation of more naturalistic religions such as
Paganism in the late 1960s and early 1970s. However, at the same time, many areas of U.S. law
began changing to no longer reflect religion but a more secular establishment as can be seen in
Supreme Court Case Roe v. Wade(p.277!). In fact, it was once commonplace to have religious
symbols, such as the ten commandments, in government facilities, but as the United States became
more religiously diverse and accepting, the less lenient it s become on violations of the
establishment clause of the First Amendment.
In 1969 Apollo II landed on the moon and transmitted pictures of the Earth back to the public.
Seeing the Earth as a small, spinning blue ball surrounded by darkness spurred the imagination and
conscience of many (Goff Harvey, 2004, p. 124). In the 1970s, many reacted to these scientific
advancements by rejecting modern conveniences and returning to nature. As a result, naturalistic
religions that had been nearly forgotten, such as Paganism and Wicca, were rekindled as well
(Goff Harvey, 2004, p. 125). Despite scientific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Relationships in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis
The general attitude towards a relationship in the Epic of Gilgamesh (Gilgamesh) is that as long as
a man marries a women and has children with her, sexual relations with other men, women, children
and animals are permitted. The concept of an beastial sexual relationship in the Ancient World is
also justified in the beginnings of the Book of Genesis (Genesis), however, throughout Genesis it is
seen that the concept of sodomy as well as fornication is socially unacceptable. Obsession is also a
topic of discussion within both texts and overall, romantic desire is a concept which is not
accepted in the community. In the Ancient World, it was believed in the beginning that humans
and animals are so intimate with each other that they could have a sexual relationship. In Genesis,
Adam is initially created without a female mate, which results in God presenting Adam with
some of the other animals he created as potential wives. This suggests that at the very early stages
of the creation of mankind, it is admissible for a human to have a sexual relationship with another
species. Nevertheless, as Genesis progresses, it is made clear that beastiality is seen as something
which is sexually perverted in the eyes of God. Culturally, it is a man and woman s duty to have
sexual intercourse in order to reproduce and beastiality prevents humans from doing just that. From
a religious point of view, beastiality is perceived

A Critique Of Service Quality Models
Regarding the various service quality models discussed in section 2.3.1 to 2.3.9 the gap model
considers the perceptions and expectations of the customers, the gap being the difference between
expectations and perceptions (P E). The model resulted in five dimensions that are generic in nature.
However, other models such as Technical and Functional Quality Model , Perception only Model
and Evaluated Performance and Normed Quality Model consider only the perceptions of the
customers. Technical and Functional Quality Model describes three components such as technical
quality (the quality received by the customer), functional quality (how the quality is received by the
customer) and corporate quality (how quality is delivered by the organization). In the Perceptiononly

2.5 A Critique on Service Quality Measurement and Evaluation SERVQUAL is a widely used
instrument to measure customer evaluations of service quality [48]. Despite a leading instrument in
measuring service quality, a number of studies have raised concern about it [156,168 171]. These
criticisms relates to conceptual, methodological and analytical issues in SERVQUAL. The primary
issue raised in the literature is the conceptualization of service quality as the difference between
perception and expectation [159]. Cronin and Taylor, reiterate their views against the
disconfirmation based SERVQUAL scale of measuring service quality and continued to be
proponents of their perception only approach to service quality measurement. Further, the use of the
perception and expectation gap measure of service also raises related analytical concerns about its
low reliability, poor discriminant validity and spurious correlations [168 170]. Parasuraman et al.
indicate that on the issue

Women s Influence On The Church Of Women
The role of women in Christianity is directly related to the lack of rights and equality women have
faced and continue to face in society today. Patriarchy and androcentric ideas about God featured
in scripture are the foundation of female oppression despite the several similarities between God
and women. The oversight of women s resemblance to Godis responsible for the oppression of
women in Christianity. Throughout scripture, there is maternal imagery of God in relationship to
their lovefor children, compassion, and ability to provide for others; thus, proving the significance
of women in the church. Without Mothers, the humankind would not exist. Per Christian belief,
God is responsible for the presence of all creatures: the survival of others depends on her initiative
and her industry (Johnson 100). Mothers create children just as God created Adam and Eve.
Another example of God and Mothers co creation is Julian of Norwich s third revelation: that as
truly as our lord God, almighty wisdom, all love, has made everything that exists, so truly he does
and brings about everything that has done (Dutton, 37). This is a prevalent theme throughout
Christianity and is widely supported by theologians. If it is true, God s responsibility of creation is
identical to the strictly biological purpose of women. Unfortunately, when women are either unable
to or choose not to procreate, the fact that maternal thinking is a moral activity leaves these women

SGA Questions
1.Though the Paxon community already excels in the academic category, there are some changes
that I would like to see in Paxon. Ever since I attended Paxon my freshmen year I observed that the
involvement in student activities around campus started to decline, to be able to gain the
interaction this school year would make students high school experience more fun. Also it would
be nice to have a few more pep rallies, than twice a year and I feel as if they are mainly focused
on the athletes most of the time and not recognizing other students who do not play sports. Yes, I
am aware that it is important not to miss class but, it would be reasonable if there were sort of
activity before breaks to get students pumped up and to release the stress they have been having
over homework, test, quizzes, etc. And not to compare it to our rival school Stanton, they have
way more activities and rallies, such as winter fest and multi for their students and I am sure that
they have more activities, yet they are one of the top schools in the country. Since our school is
not as involved as theirs, having some sort of field day with booths, food and music would work
as well. Another change that I would like to see in the Paxon community is more ... Show more

Innocence and Experience in Blake s The Chimney Sweeper Essay
Innocence and Experience in Blake s The Chimney Sweeper
The most obvious difference between the two poems would be the length, although this is not
necessarily a difference between innocence and experience, it does lure the reader into the right
frame of mind to read into the attitude of each poem. Innocence consists of six, four line stanzas,
where as experience is only three, four line stanzas. The length of each line is also longer in
innocence when compared to experience. When you examine what each of the poems is portraying,
this seems like an effective way to draw a distinctive line between the two.
Innocence begins in a slightly depressing tone, informing us from a child s first ... Show more

The next three stanzas consist of a dream Tom Dacre experiences. The dream itself consists of
angels, a very obvious religious figure, freeing other Chimney Sweeper s from there coffins of
black , where black is an intentional colour reference again ment to symbolize a hard, short life of
opression, with a bright key , bright again being a colour reference. The children are then allowed
to roam freely naked and white , white being yet another intentional placement of a symbolic
colour, on a green plain . The use of the colour green in this case is a slightly less obvious. When
combined with the assumption that the placement of the Chimney Sweeper is in a sooty, black city,
one could assume that Blake is against the large scale industrialization that was demolishing God s
natural beauty.
The key turning point in this poem is in the third line of the fifth stanza. And the angel told Tom, if
he d be a good boy, He d have God for his father, and never want joy . This line has the potential to
turn all of the poem around. If you later examine the Experience poem and return to the Innocence,
this line could imply that all religious teachings from the Church are given only to keep the world
running. If humanity has the belief that a hard life leads to a peaceful, easy afterlife

The Causes And Effects Of The United States
Imagine strolling to the local grocery store, taking a morning run, or merely gathering the daily mail
wearing a mask as a shield against gassy smog. Think about the terror that strikes some people when
they turn on their faucets only to see a string of tainted, brown solution. Pollution affects thousands
of human individuals, animals, forests, cities, and ecosystems. With shocking effects and
staggering statistics, our water sources, the air we breathe, and the land upon which we live suffer
from this plague. Unfortunately, the causes and effects of this universal dilemma deteriorate the
health and well being of all life forms on earth.
Although land, light, and noise pollution leave their mark on this planet, air and water pollution
inflict even more damage. Across the globe, from Beijing to the U.S. to Africa, we see, and
contribute to the causes of pollution daily. Because of harmful chemicals that waft up to the
atmosphere, the ozone faces depletion. Automobiles and other forms of transportation emit
dangerous toxins, along with putrid, black smoke that spews from the exhaust pipes of large
vehicles. Smoke from factories contributes generously to contamination, as well. Even natural
disasters play a momentous role in air pollution as exhibited by sulfur dioxide, a volcanic gas that
kills those who come in contact with it and leaves soil infertile for years (Pollution). Another
substance absolutely necessary to life on earth water teems with pollutants. Human

the class, the dean of the college gets worried about her behavior, and she is assigned to attend
counseling sessions with a psychologist. Dina then meets one of her poetry classmates accidently;

This Is A Passive Vitalism Because It Accounts For The
This is a passive vitalism because it accounts for the distinct as well as for the continuum but
without imposing any external point of view on the becoming of matter. What is really at issue is
the problem resolved, in the reality of its solution. It is not the ideal, but the reality of this ideal that
is in question (Souriau, 2015, p. 208). Passive vitalism in Souriau terms thus expresses in existence
without defining what is given in potential (virtual materiality) and what can become actual

What is being contested in the new posthuman turns to matter cited earlier is the Kantian idea that
there is a mute, inert and meaningless life upon which a human subject imposes his self originating
thought (systematizing and categorising). For education researchers, such as Snaza and Weaver,
agency is given to matter and a student is no longer a unique entity standing apart, but is now no
more than just one among the many different and mutually entangled unique organisms and things.
There are experiences happening all the time, all over the school, independent of humans. There are
always interactions between humans and nonhuman sentient beings and humans and non sentient
objects, such as computers, doors, playgrounds, hallways, utensils, trays, balls, windows, desks,
and so on (Snaza Weaver, 2014, p. 9).
The mutual co constitution of the organic and inorganic forms takes precedence while maintaining
an active and vital self constituting and self maintaining individual organism.
What such accounts of the mutually constitutive agential relationality between subjects and objects
stress is that there is a world of ontic beings (inorganic, organic, inhuman, ahuman, nonhuman) that
ought not be ontologically hierarchized. Further and by implication, they pertain to the question of
how to reconfigure (in connection with its vital milieu) that which we assume is the essential

Effects Of Technology On The Economy Of The Country
Imagine a warm summer s day out in the country. No work, no distractions, just you and your
friends sipping wine, eating great food, and having even better conversation. This has become a
popular fantasy in Missouri, which is one of the many reasons why wineries in the state are
popping up left and right. With such a growing business industry there are many effects on the
economy of having wineries. In a world of technology, it is nice to be able to put the phone or
laptop away and answer to no one for a few hours. Being able to put technology aside allows for
the relaxing time so many people want to add to their lives. For those who live in the rural areas
where wineries are being built, it is a bit more challenging to live a relaxing life. The struggle to
find jobs in a small town that is not near much of anything becomes much easier when wineries
offer a variety of jobs and grants rural citizens the ability to find the relaxation they are looking
for. With the hustle of everyday life, people want to have a place they can go to unwind. Wineries
are an amazing option for peace and tranquility. Most wineries grow their own grapes and ferment
their own wineon site. With the business side of wine companiesin the same location as the winery,
many people get first hand experience of how wine is produced. Now, to have the manufacturing
side of wine companies in the same location as the winery, there must also be an abundance of

Character Analysis Of Holden Caulfield
In J. D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, the character of Holden Caulfield does not
convincingly embody a compassionate and caring character. Holden, after having a difficult
year at school, finds comfort in his memories of his brother Allie. Another instance of Holden
finding comfort, is when he spends time with Phoebe. In the same way, Phoebe is supportive
when spending time with Holden. However, this takes a turn for the worse, as Holden reveals
to Phoebe that he is leaving. Holden finds comfort and love through his memories of Allie, his
experiences with Phoebe and the support from he receives from her. Holden begins to reminisce
about his interactions with his deceased brother, Allie as he feels lost, and does not know what
to do. Holden, having difficulty describing a room or house for Stradlater s composition, he
decides to write about his brother Allie s baseball mitt, that had poems written a over the glove
for Allie to read when he was in the field (Salinger 38). Holden begins to remember how Allie
was very intelligent, how everyone liked him, and he even started describing his features
(Salinger 38). Holden shows compassion and love towards his brother Allie when he begins to
tell the reader, I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows with

The Effect Of Endometriosis On Vitro Fertilization
The Effect of Endometriosis on In Vitro Fertilization By: Brittany Pangilinan Abstract The success
of in vitro fertilization treatment is compromised when a patient is suffering from endometriosis.
Endometriosis creates scar tissue and adhesions on the women s ovaries and other reproductive
structures preventing the joining of the egg and sperm during fertilization. In vitro fertilization was
created in 1977 to manually join the egg and sperm in hope of fertilization in patients who cannot
conceive on their own. Researchers have found a strong correlation between the severity of the
condition and the patient s success in IVF treatment. The future in IVF and endometriosis research
can soon uncover the cause of endometriosis, further revealing different modes of alternatives in
reproduction. Literature Review Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, normally
located inside the uterus, lines the outside. The condition most commonly affects the ovaries and
peritoneum, and affects approximately 10% of women in the United States (Barnhart et. el. 2002).
The misplaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it would in the usual situation; the tissue
thickens, breaks down, and bleeds with the menstrual cycle. Since there is no exit path for the
tissue to leave the body, the tissue becomes trapped inside the abdomen, causing severe pain (Mayo
Clinic, 2013). When the ovaries are affected from endometriosis, cysts called endometriomas may
form. The surrounding

Black Swan Analysis
Using Oral Conventions in Black Swan to Expose Mental Turmoil Darren Aronofsky s Black Swan,
showcases Nathalie Portman as Nina Sayers, a member of a prestigious dance company where she
faces external and internal pressures to be the elite. In the NYC dance company, Nina struggles to
maintain the lead role. The constant mental instability consumes her, leading to her downfall. Orals
have the power to intensify a performance, and they can allow for insight on a person s thoughts
and troubles. Visual conventions work alongside and help support oral conventions to successfully
present both a rhetorical message and experience. Oral conventions such as speed and length,
volume and tone set by instruments parallel and portray Nina s monstrous characteristics of a
constant rush of conflicts resulting in an unstable mentality. Composer, Clint Mansell, was the
former lead singer of the band, Pop Will Eat Itself. He debuted his film scoring in the film Pi and
then worked alongside director, Darren Aronofskyto compose the soundtrack to Black Swan. Clint
Mansell was inspired by Tchaikovsky when he created the instrumental pieces. Mansell relates
with the desire to move forward, change, and become the things you d really really love to be
(Acharya). He was able to portray this mental state because he acknowledges that in today s
world you identify with that double edged sword, of really wanting to achieve things and do your
best, while realising that there s a bit of an ache to the other parts of your life (Acharya). He
experiences the hardships of trying to perfect his work in the music industry. Mansell personally
resonates with the theme of confusion that Black Swan carries enabling him to create a relatable
and raw soundtrack.
In 2010, this film was released to a modern society where individuals suffer from diagnosed
psychological illnesses. Constant pressures of school, work, and balancing a healthy life can cause
physical, emotional, and mental harm, transforming an individual s sanity to complete insanity.
This medium allows for an audience to be able to relate to the concept of feeling in constant turmoil
with oneself. Mansell s instrumental composition, Perfection embodies and showcases this theme

Sociology Essay On Identity And Belonging
Many people feel uncomfortable showing certain parts of their identity, as they might be ashamed
of it. It has been considered for a long while that, to protect one s wellbeing, it is beneficial to hide
the negative aspects of one s self. However, in 2014, professor Manuela Barreto from the University
of Exeter have found that hiding stigmatised identity may, in fact, decrease your belongingness to
the group. Baretto and colleagues asked participants to hide their stigmatised identity when

Then, they were asked to interact with another naГЇve participant and to either hide or show their
stigmatised identity. Researchers found that those who were hiding their identity experienced an
interaction as less enjoyable, and, importantly, other participants said that they did not find a
stigmatised person to be authentic. Moreover, external observers rated interaction as being
awkward. Since authenticity is a crucial part of the belongingness, it could be concluded that
hiding stigmatised identity actually leads to less belongingness. According to professor Baretto,
instead of increasing acceptance, hiding a stigmatised identity can result in a lowered sense of
belonging and even actual social rejection. The results of this research could be implemented in
everyday life. If there is a part of your identity that you don t like and wish to hide, think twice.
Hiding it may cut your belongingness to the group. On the contrary, showing it will make you
seem more authentic, and, thus, likeable. Hiding might seem to be an adaptive strategy but it
could actually lead to the opposite, it may lead you to feel isolated, more awkward in social
interactions, and, thus, less social

Lizzie Borden Took An Axe
Lizzie Borden took an axe... Or did she?
Hello, this is my opinion on Lizzie, although the poem says she took an axe, what was John
doing, the maid, and sister? The maid was the only person in the house besides Lizzie and Abbi.
Did they set up the murders? John was out of town, suspiciously, and the sister was out with a

during the murders. And if these people did associate with Lizzie, why, they as much to gain as
anyone? Did Andrew choose ,favorites? Was Abbi a bad mother? We may never know.
My last thing to say about Lizzie, is why did she kill her parents? Lizzie had nothing to gain by
killed her parents, so why? If killing her parents did nothing she must have had a different plan.
Maybe Lizzie wanted mental comfort, or revenge on something that may have happened when she
was a child. The house was 300,000 dollars in total estate, which 8 million dollars in modern

Antoine Henri Jomini
The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were turbulent eras generating several changes in the
way how commanders led the war. The world owes a debt to one man for interpreting and
recording his contributions to strategy and the art of war: Antoine Henri Jomini. The purpose of
this paper to explain why the Jomini s theories are a school of thoughts that remain adequate for
explaining warfare in the modern era. The importance of logistics, the acceptance of principles of
war, and the concept of the geometry of battlespace proposed by Jomini s theories are three broad
concepts that are still adequate for explaining in the modern era. Incorporating the logistics in the

Mallick argues that The Principles of War are the principles expressing the rules of military
thought and actions that serve as the permanent basis for combat doctrine. Ettrich mentioned
that to have a better understanding of how Jomini developed his principles of war creating a set
of thoughts that have remained relatively unaltered for approximately two centuries, it is
necessary to study his life, his intense studies of war, military career, and the circumstances that
shaped his tactical and strategic thinking. Jomini as the same way of other military philosophers,
tried to articulate his insights about of the art of war presenting his ideas through a list of
maxims or as a list of general truths whose application contributes to success in war, they may be
legitimately viewed, as the prototype of the modern principles of war . Jomini s maxims are the
closest thought to the modern principles of war. Without considering the fact that Jomini never
defined his concepts like general principles of war, nor did he provided precise details of the
fundamental principles he wrote, these have been adopted for many armies in the world. In
chapter six of Peter Paret s Makers of Modern Strategy: From Machiavelli to the Nuclear Age,
John Shy mentioned that many of the nineteenth centuries military leaders accepted Jomini s
maxims as valid principles. Ettrich recalls that historically, the Jomini s concepts of principles of
war were introduced to the United States in 1817 and were used initially at the US Military
Academy; these principles are still valid in the US Army doctrine. Weigley argues that during the
United States Civil War, military leaders from both sides embraced concepts and principles
learned while studying as contemporaries at the Military Academy prior to the rise and secession

1.2 The Common Denominator of Security and Feminism
Feminism is more than an intellectual enterprise, refers to the area where theory and practice meet,
it is about the struggles of the women`s movement and the theory that flows from their experiences,
about women`s security understanding that transform our understanding of men`s security. The
link between feminism and security points out that understanding security issues needs an
enlargement to include specific security concerns and beliefs of women.
This research emphasizes context based interpretations of gender in human security. In respect of a
widen concept of human security, a feminist perspective highlights from the very beginning the
danger of masking differences under the term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The broad schools of security thinking neglected women`s insecurity and offer only a partial
understanding of human security.
Patriarchy, in feminist perspective an unwelcome word, determined the bottom of state security
needs, as women`s status residence.
The current research draws a feminist conceptualization of security, a formula about how human
security scholars can mediate between human and state security, reconstructing and promoting the
importance of all forms of identity. Human security safeguards and expands the vital freedoms of
people, requires shielding people from acute threats and empowers them to change their lives. A
gender sensitive human security concept looks at conflict, post conflict, poverty, migration,
economic security, knowledge and values. A gendered instrument to achieve human security for
both men and women is to allow more women roles and seats in local and national governments, to
shift gender perspectives to the political debate. Gender refers to the social and cultural differences
between the sexes, is focused on the welfare of people, supports human rights and addresses post
conflict resolution.
Human security is a wise way forward, but a gender sensitive human security is a way of peace and
well being. As theory, a gender sensitive human security proposes to discuss two dimensions, the
first is about feminist critiques of the concept of human security, and the second

The Helicopter Flight Controls Of Fly By Wire System
ABSTRACT
Helicopter is known for being extremely challenging to fly. The helicopter flight controls enables
the pilot to attain a controlled flight. The flight controls differ drastically when compared to the
fixed wing aircraft. The advancement in flight controls namely fly by wire system has resulted in
reducing the complexity of the system. The state of the art fly by wire system has resulted in
increasing the performance and at the same time reduces the workload of a pilot. The four main
controls include collective pitch control, cyclic pitch control, throttle control and anti torque pedals.
The employment of fly by wire has thus paved way for reduction in weight whilst providing more
space for comfort and effortless handling. The commercial helicopter are beginning to utilize the fly
by wire technology after being tried and tested by fixed wing aircraft and military helicopter. The
goal of this technical essay is to provide an overview of the evolution helicopter flight controls
from the earlier complex analog phase to the present simplified digital phase.
Introduction
In the early 1920s, designing the rotors to attain an efficient flight was the utmost priority. The
next decade was followed by, perfection of control systems and its mechanism for a real world
flight capability. The flight control system is an element of the aircraft control loop which is
essential for the pilot. When evaluating the aspects of an ideal helicopter the first facet to be
considered is

The Scanlon Plan can be used as a major catalyst to turnaround the plant by emphasizing more on
productivity. The more they work the faster they roll towards their bonuses; this magical spell is a
win win situation for both the employees and the management. The management can cruise steadily
over the wave of bonus motivated productivity and the employees can reap the benefits from the
high production rate in terms of bonuses. The plan can be redrawn and a slight change can be
made by making the entire plan revolve around the concept of productivity. When productivity

Individual productivity calculator can be devised to reward those who work more in order to keep
the parity issues from creeping in and at the same time providing growth and recognition to the
employees as mentioned in the Herzberg two factor model (Newstrom, 2015). This model can be
interpreted as a pioneering technique to motivate the team.
When the employees sweat out to reach the production targets, they give their best and the mind set
or the attitude of the employees towards the organization changes. The management should set up
monthly workshops to interact with their employees, thus making the employees feel that the
management is well within their reach and is ready to listen to their pleas. Organizing such
workshops will stimulate the feedback process which will help the management to cut down on
production and sales costs in turn maximising the returns (Arnolds amp; Boshoff, 2002).
Organizing technical trips and field tours further improves the management employee relationship
as this allows the two parties to work together in a different environment and gain better ideas. The
concepts of the ERG (existence, relatedness, growth) Model can be applied by recognizing
individual employees who attain the highest productivity and then rewarding them with various
benefits such as growth. Growth is what employees look for in any organization as the more

embrace their sexuality like Sullivan s class mate who insisted on wearing full makeup to
school, others for instance would try to out jock the jocks (128) fight for respect for if they could
only gain that then nothing else would matter. On the other hand, teens like Andrew, goals were to

Last Flight by Amelia Earhart
February 9, 2017
For so much of our history as a people, we are often reminded of the many successful men that
accomplished things to make this world a better place. We are reminded about their long,
devastating journey to reach their goals and maintain their prosperity; however, not once do we
hear of their wives or female siblings. In the early 1900 s it was still presumed that this was the
role of the man. A woman from Kansas, however, rose beyond the clouds of prejudice her name
Amelia Earhart. Determined and hard working, this woman set on surpassing the limits previously
placed on women, and in her book, Last Flight, Amelia Earhart fought the many odds ... Show more

On April 8, 1931, she set the altitude record by flying 18,415 feet. On January 11, 1935, she
became the first person to fly across the Pacific from Honolulu to Oakland (Earhart 89 93). All
this was done during a time and place where people lossed their jobs, and the economy was bad.
Unemployment rate almost tripled between 1930 and 1933 as it jumped from 8.9 percent to 24.9
percent. Americans relied on Earhart s successes as national achievements and viewed them as
encouragement through all of the unrest of the great depression. It was a signal that while America s
economy was still weakening, the country s spirit to accomplish was still strong. It was also a
symbol that the American dream was still active and that, at least in some way, those who worked
hard would be compensated. Her accomplishments proved to the world that women were equal, and
lifted America to the center stage of civil rights.
In conclusion, the book Last Flight, by Amelia Earhart, portrayed a critical moment in American
History; traditional viewpoints were challenged, aviation became ingrained in the American culture,
and women became major players in the American Dream. Amelia Earhart s accomplishments have
jarring similarities to Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space, orbiting the earth forty eight
times. She put the previous four American astronauts all male to shame with their combined total of
thirty six. These

Richard Nixon Watergate Scandal
Watergate scandal remains one of the historical revelation of excessive use of power during the
reign of President Richard Nixon. After the break in at the Democratic National Committee at the
Westgate offices, there was a remarkable series of rotten underbelly in the Nixon s administration.
Specifically, this scandal led to the discovery of the multiple abuses of the power under the articles
of impeachment. Because of the unlawful approach used by this administration to thwart those who
were critical of Nixon s administration, human rights groups and political activities embarked on
demanding for explanation and resignation of the president. Rightful, there was reasonable grounds
to demand the president s resignation because it became overt that he had used FBI, CIA and
Internal Revenue Service to silence critics. Subsequently, this... Show more content on

During this scandal, Clinton was accused of engaging in an extramarital affair in the White House.
This led to the impeachment motion in 1998 by the U.S House of Representatives. However, he
was acquitted of all charges of perjury and obstruction of justice in the Senate trial. Moreover, his
license to practice law was suspended in Arkansas and even by the United States Supreme Court.
Besides, he received a fine of $90,000 because of giving a wrong account of the testimony. Like
the previous President, the Clinton Lewinsky Sex Scandal depicts a serious pursuit of the American
people to safeguard the respect for the presidency. The fact that the U.S president was subjected to
Senate and House of Representative trial and even suspension of his legal license manifest
expansion of the oversight roles. Indeed, the president is accountable to the electorate both
politically and socially. Again, this scandal revealed the increased scrutiny on the presidency and

Sleep Apne An Essential Part Of Everyday Life Essay
Introduction and Pertinent Anatomy and Physiology: Sleep is an essential part of everyday
life. It is one of several components which help keep us alive. However, a significant percentage
of the human population has difficulty reaching and maintaining Stage IV within their sleeping
patterns, the stage that allows the mind and body to fall into a deep and restorative sleep,
known as REM sleep. This is a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea, a serious, potentially
life threatening condition that is far more common than generally understood (Sleep Apnea
n.d.). Obstructive sleep apnea can be very dangerous if it is not properly detected and treated.
Nearly 18 billion Americans today (or 1 out of every 5) have a form of sleep apnea. About 4% of
people are undiagnosed (or 1 out of 50). It can occur in all age groups and different sexes. (Sleep
Apnea n.d.) What is Sleep Apnea? Apnea means without breathing. In many cases apnea is
caused by tissue in the back of one s throat that collapses. Sleep apnea is an involuntary cession
of breathing that occurs during sleep. We have four stages of sleep and the fifth being your REM
sleep also know as rapid eye movement. In short stage 1(one) is considered light sleep, stage 2
(two) eye movement stops and the brain waves become slower, in stage 3 (three) brain waves still
continue to become slower and considered deep sleep, stage 4 (four) also is called the deep sleep
phase, and last REM sleep is when breathing becomes more rapid,

Volunteering Back To The Community
It was a bright, sunny morning, the weather was nice, and the sky was beautiful, yet I was stuck
volunteering for my teacher. He holds a river clean up monthly and for some reason, I decided
to wake up early to go out and help him clean the river. Honestly, I had no reason to be there but
since a couple of my friends were going, I decided to go and help out also. Our local river was
gross and riddled with the homeless, but my teacher s goal was to clean up the area to help the
environment and bring something beautiful back to our community. When we started cleaning,
there was trash everywhere and the smell was so gross and pungent that it repulsed me. However,
as time passed and trash was getting picked up, the area became cleaner and soon it looked like an

Monster Study Stuttering Theory
The Monster Study
Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in
Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from
(Reynolds, 2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect,
meaning the brain s signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a learned
behavior and could be unlearned (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct,
Johnson devised an experiment now known as the Monster Study. Before he could begin he
requested the help of one of his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for
him. Before the experiment Tudor and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty six children s
speech on a scale of one to five, one being poor and five being fluent (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag).
Based on this the children were separated into four groups: IA consisted of five children who
stuttered, but were told nice things; IB consisted of five children who stuttered and were told
negative things; IIA consisted of six children who did not stutter but, were told they did, and,
IIB consisted of six children who did not stutter and were told nice things. Tudor used rehearsed
responses such as, you will be able to speak even better than you are speaking now on students in
IA and responses such as Don t ever speak unless you can do it right on children in IIA (Reynolds,
2003, n.pag.). Even after just two sessions,

Should Kids Have Homework
An issue that is highly debated is; should kid have homework. Some say the should, but others are
against assigning children homework. Children should have homework because they can work hard
without without distractions, bringing and complete homework will help children/students learn
how to take care of their responsibilities, and homework gives teachers and parents a chance to see
how the children are doing on subjects on their own.
One reason children should be assigned homework is because children are able to work hard
without distractions. For example, when they are home, it gives them a chance to go to a quiet place
and do their homework without distraction. Another example, when one day I was assigned a lot
of homework. When I wanted to get a head start, but there was a lot of distractions around the
classroom and my friends wanted to talk to me. But when I got home it gave me a chance to go
into a quiet place where I wasn t disturbed, And ended up getting all of my homework done. Both
of these pieces of evidence shows that when children are more in a quite alone place they are able ...

Harris Pastoral Epistles
According to Harris (2015), pseudonymity, is the practice of publishing new work in the name of
either a famous or a deceased author. In so doing, such a name would impart some form of
authority to the writing. For example in the Old Testament, the book of Daniel is considered
pseudonymous, while in the New Testament 2nd Peter and Jude are also considered
pseudonymous. Followers of Paul were also allowed to use his name in any works that they
published. Among Hellenistic Jewish and early Christian writers, the practice was used to express
thoughts and ideas of the teachings of famous authors as if they were still alive. The aim of
pseudonymity was to create praise to an authors work, and not to deceive the readers that the work

Education According to Harris (2015), pastoral epistles do not appear in Paul s letters nor do
they talk about his ideas on faith and the Holy Spirit. The church that is discussed in the pastorals
is also very different from the church during Paul s times. Due to these reasons, scholars assume
that the pastorals were authored sometimes after the death of Paul. The Pastoral Epistles main
emphasis is on tradition and how to combat traitors since the church at the time was changing into
a much more organized community. There was also concern by the authors of the epistles
regarding the practice of Hellenistic Judaism, and Moral Law that concerned abstinence fro

  • 2. Good Guys And Bad Guys Essay Dan Breen COM117: Languages of Film TV 11/5/2014 Jason Molloy Good Guys and Bad Guys Jimmy Conway and Sam Ace Rothstein, two of the most charismatic characters in their respective films, are a lot more alike than they seem. Without actually analyzing and going in depth with both characters, you could see why they both come off more different than alike. First off, and a huge noticeable difference, is Jimmy s love life compared to Sam s love life. Jimmy has no attachments to the ladies. Although the real James Conway was married, the character portrayed by Robert De Niro was not. Portraying no love life in the film Goodfellas really made Conway stand out from all the other supporting characters. Sam, on the other hand, had Ginger. Ginger used up Sam like he was a human ATM machine and took advantage of every bit of generosity Sam had in him. During the last act of the movie when Sam is throwing Ginger s clothes around and telling her to get out you can tell that he was just acting out of emotion due to the betrayal he had experienced. With all of the disrespect he receives from his wife he still takes it and moves on about his business. Although this gives Sam a nice guy stance it also makes him look like a doormat, something Jimmy is most certainly not. With all of the people that Jimmy had whacked, most, if not all the people that helped him with his scores, you can tell what kind of person Jimmy is. Plain and simple, Jimmy Conway is a selfish, user and abuser, far from Sam s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Effects Of Malaria On African Continent And Is... Malaria is a life threatening disease that is caused by plasmodium parasites transmitted from female mosquitos when they bite a human. The plasmodium parasite can also be transmitted by blood products like unclean needles or unscreened blood. There are five parasite species (Plasmodium, falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae) that cause malaria in humans, and two of these species, P. falciparum and P. vivax, are the greatest threat (see Figure 1). The severity of malaria is based on the species of plasmodium. The symptoms people experience include chills, fever, and sweating usually occurring within a few weeks after being bitten. In the United States, it is a very rare disease with fewer than 20,000 cases per year, and is treatable by a medical professional. However, Sub Saharan Africa is home to 88% of malaria cases and 90% of malaria deaths. P. falciparum is the most prevalent parasite on the African continent and is responsible for most malaria related deaths globally. P. vivax is more widely distributed than P. falciparum and predominates in most countries outside of Africa. In the 1970s and 1980s, resistance of P. falciparum started in medicines, such as chloroquine and sulfadoxine pyrimethamine (SP). Drug resistance has been implicated in the spread of malaria to new areas and re emergence of malaria in areas where the disease had been eradicated. Population movement has introduced resistant parasites to areas previously free of drug resistance. Resistance is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Mistreatment Of Left-Handeded People When you hear the word sinistra , what word does it sound close to? It sounds closely to the word sinister and with that you think sinistra means dark or evil. However, sinistra s meaning has no thing to do with darkness or evil; it is Latin for left or left handed. With this misunderstanding of the word sinistra and other reasons, left handed people faced years of social and religious oppression. Hello, I m Josh Haxton a lefty and I have always been curious about the history of left handers. Through my research, I was able to end by curiosity. Today I m going to inform you of the history of left handednessand famous left handed people in history. Left Handedness is defined as having the left hand more dominant or effective than the right. However the dominant use of the left hand was not acceptable for many centuries. In the article Right, Left, Right, Wrong! , Luke Mastin describes that from the 13th century till the 20th century, left handed faced inhumane treatment. The beginning of this maltreatment started in the 13th century when the Catholic Church rose to power. During this time, books and paintings began to damage left handed people s reputation. In the book The Puzzle of Left Handedness Rik Smits states that one of things that tarnished their reputation, was European art depicting the Devil and his accomplices as left handed. As a result, left handers soon became seen as people in league with the Devil. As centuries passed the tension between right handers and left handers stayed the same until the 15th century and 16th century. During this period, the Inquisition, a period of suppression against those that believed unpopular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Political Correctness Vs Freedom Of Speech Political Correctness vs Freedom of Speech Political correctness is the idea that certain words, policies, or opinions are too offensive and taboo that they should be censored. While this definition may seem unfair, that is exactly what it is. This idea of being politically correct is on the rise in America, with various factions and sides taking advantage of it. Most notedly, it has taken effect in such areas such as the media, academia, and industry. In these areas, employees, students, or any subject in question may be put to the test of whether or not their views are in line with politically correct guidelines. In many of these incidents, the subject in question may be reprimanded, ostracized, or otherwise punished for their crimes of thought or expression. This is a hotly debated topic in America, with both sides of the debate passionately disputing the worth of such a thing. Due to its widespread influence, it is debated in nearly every aspect of American life. Some feel that is necessary, as it protects minorities, women, or any group that may be discriminated against from offense and or hateful speech . Others feel that it is a clear assault on freedom of speechand disproportionately punishes those for trivial comments or opinions where no true offense should be taken. In this essay, the clear and present danger that political correctness poses to our First Amendment right to freedom of speech and expression will be proven and explained in vivid ... • 7. Aaron Hernandez Why Did Aaron Hernandez Kill Odin Lloyd? Aaron Hernandez a very youthful accomplished NFL player with a 40 million dollar contract will now be serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. This is all due to him being convicted of murdering long term companion Odin Lloyd. In June of 2013 Lloyd was shot seven times and found dead near the player s home. The prosecution had prodigious and significant amounts of evidence against Hernandez. Surveillance video ten minutes after the murder shows surveillance of Aaron in his own home walking with what resembles a gun. Text messages from Lloyd and Hernandez shows intent from them meeting up with each other that same momentous night. The only part missing out of this case in the motive. ... Although no one could tell for sure what this object was, more than likely it was a gun. The prosecution had government experts and lay witnesses to present to the jurors that this was more than likely a gun. Other evidence introduced was a pair of red sneakers earlier on in the trial. Jurors didn t know what was so important about this evidence but once the prosecution explained about the foot tracks later on this made sense. So the jury had to go back to the evidence that they were presented earlier and put the clues together to perceive the evidence. Now the million dollar question is why this talented NFL player committed such crimes with a 40 million dollar contract at risk. What happened that made him so angry? Odin Lloyd knew a lot about Hernandez it seems that the more people know about him the more suspicious he gets. Aaron seems to have a paranoid type of personality partly from his drug usage with angle dust and marijuana. His brain doesn t function properly while he is on these drug making him quickly flustered and always thinking someone is out to get him or disrespect him. Throughout time, hearing people have been trying to destroy the DEAF WORLD with the eugenics movement, the mainstreaming of Deaf children into public hearing schools, and cochlear implants. Even as recently as 1992, researchers at Boston University claimed to find the gene responsible for a common type of inherited deafness. The director essentially stated that these findings would lead to genetic engineering, which in essence, would eradicate many Deaf people. These researchers want to insert genetic material to prevent hereditary hearing impairment (Lane, 1996:385). Really, they want to stop deafness before it starts. The eugenics movement takes on many forms, but they are all aimed at destroying the DEAF WORLD. Mainstreaming Deaf children into hearing public schools, with or without interpreters, has the potential to abolish the DEAF WORLD. A Deaf child s natural language is American Sign Language. Therefore, they should be exposed to and taught as much ASL in school as possible. When Deaf children are mainstreamed into public schools, they lost contact with other Deaf children with whom they can associate and sign with. • 9. Summary Of How To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes Ted hughes uses literary techniques in the most vivid way, to illustrate what his idea of a water lily painting looked like. In all of his works, the goal is to describe a task or a thing, but make the reader understand it by using nature as the key. The task in this poem is presented by the title How To Paint A Water Lily . The reason he wrote this poem, was to describe nature by decorating the spirit of the environment around the lily. The two literary techniques that will be discussed in this paper are imagery and alliteration. Ted Hughes is using his words to inform the painter in a way that describes everything else but the lily. The painter is on a mission to create a painted depiction of a water lily in a pond. Ted Hughes is very fond of nature as he mentions various aspects of nature to create many images in our minds. However, the main aspect of the poem is surprisingly not the flower; it was the dragonfly. The dragonfly appears for the second time in stanza 3. First observe the air s dragonfly That eats meat, that bullets by . The dragonfly is mentioned in stanzas 2 7 because of its role it plays on the environment. The reader and the painter may wonder What does the dragonfly have to do with the water lily? but Hughes shows us how important it is the more you read into the poem. The first literary technique to be discussed is imagery. Imagery is a common literary technique found in Ted Hughes poems. Imagery consists of very descriptive words that help readers visualize the work better. While Ted is describing the environment around the lily, he describes the action of the dragonflies as Rainbow their arcs, spark, or settle. which makes you visualize the dragonflies arching their backs as if they were about to fly full speed, seeing a spark happen from the light reflecting off of their shiny wings. The part about settle is about how the dragonflies probably fly away or land on the lily when they are done fighting. The details that were just described were not stated in the poem, it s just what was visualized after reading these words. There are many other examples of imagery in the poem. The first stanza says A green level of lily leaves Roofs the pond s chamber and paves The flies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It arises when the right thing to do, and the action that is being performed are not the same. In the next 600 words, I will present and explain a heuristic that inhibits moral behavior. I will then speak of a situation that is an example of a heuristic. I will also describe what steps to take in the described situation to help ensure moralbehavior. Moral behavior is an aspect of our humanity that is essentially learned at a very young age. Our moral behavior is sculpted based on our culture and our surroundings. It is responsible for the actions we choose to commit. When our moral behavior is inhibited, we stray away from the right thing to do and act in ways that would seem malicious and cruel to a rational bystander. Social and situational context can explain what induces moral people to act in heinous ways. A heuristic is a mental shortcut that readily comes to mind and simplifies cognitive tasks. The solution itself is not perfect or guaranteed to be optimal, but it is enough to satisfy the immediate goals (1). • 19. Religion Vs Religion How religion is represented and interpreted in America is continuously evolving. The Apollo II moon landing brought about a renewed interpretation of more naturalistic religions such as Paganism in the late 1960s and early 1970s. However, at the same time, many areas of U.S. law began changing to no longer reflect religion but a more secular establishment as can be seen in Supreme Court Case Roe v. Wade(p.277!). In fact, it was once commonplace to have religious symbols, such as the ten commandments, in government facilities, but as the United States became more religiously diverse and accepting, the less lenient it s become on violations of the establishment clause of the First Amendment. In 1969 Apollo II landed on the moon and transmitted pictures of the Earth back to the public. Seeing the Earth as a small, spinning blue ball surrounded by darkness spurred the imagination and conscience of many (Goff Harvey, 2004, p. 124). In the 1970s, many reacted to these scientific advancements by rejecting modern conveniences and returning to nature. As a result, naturalistic religions that had been nearly forgotten, such as Paganism and Wicca, were rekindled as well (Goff Harvey, 2004, p. 125). Despite scientific... Relationships in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis The general attitude towards a relationship in the Epic of Gilgamesh (Gilgamesh) is that as long as a man marries a women and has children with her, sexual relations with other men, women, children and animals are permitted. The concept of an beastial sexual relationship in the Ancient World is also justified in the beginnings of the Book of Genesis (Genesis), however, throughout Genesis it is seen that the concept of sodomy as well as fornication is socially unacceptable. Obsession is also a topic of discussion within both texts and overall, romantic desire is a concept which is not accepted in the community. In the Ancient World, it was believed in the beginning that humans and animals are so intimate with each other that they could have a sexual relationship. In Genesis, Adam is initially created without a female mate, which results in God presenting Adam with some of the other animals he created as potential wives. This suggests that at the very early stages of the creation of mankind, it is admissible for a human to have a sexual relationship with another species. Nevertheless, as Genesis progresses, it is made clear that beastiality is seen as something which is sexually perverted in the eyes of God. Culturally, it is a man and woman s duty to have sexual intercourse in order to reproduce and beastiality prevents humans from doing just that. The primary issue raised in the literature is the conceptualization of service quality as the difference between perception and expectation [159]. • 22. Women s Influence On The Church Of Women The role of women in Christianity is directly related to the lack of rights and equality women have faced and continue to face in society today. Patriarchy and androcentric ideas about God featured in scripture are the foundation of female oppression despite the several similarities between God and women. The oversight of women s resemblance to Godis responsible for the oppression of women in Christianity. Throughout scripture, there is maternal imagery of God in relationship to their lovefor children, compassion, and ability to provide for others; thus, proving the significance of women in the church. Without Mothers, the humankind would not exist. Per Christian belief, God is responsible for the presence of all creatures: the survival of others depends on her initiative and her industry (Johnson 100). Mothers create children just as God created Adam and Eve. Another example of God and Mothers co creation is Julian of Norwich s third revelation: that as truly as our lord God, almighty wisdom, all love, has made everything that exists, so truly he does and brings about everything that has done (Dutton, 37). This is a prevalent theme throughout Christianity and is widely supported by theologians. If it is true, God s responsibility of creation is identical to the strictly biological purpose of women. Innocence consists of six, four line stanzas, where as experience is only three, four line stanzas. The length of each line is also longer in innocence when compared to experience. The children are then allowed to roam freely naked and white , white being yet another intentional placement of a symbolic colour, on a green plain . The use of the colour green in this case is a slightly less obvious. When combined with the assumption that the placement of the Chimney Sweeper is in a sooty, black city, one could assume that Blake is against the large scale industrialization that was demolishing God s natural beauty. The key turning point in this poem is in the third line of the fifth stanza. And the angel told Tom, if he d be a good boy, He d have God for his father, and never want joy . This line has the potential to turn all of the poem around. No work, no distractions, just you and your friends sipping wine, eating great food, and having even better conversation. This has become a popular fantasy in Missouri, which is one of the many reasons why wineries in the state are popping up left and right. With such a growing business industry there are many effects on the economy of having wineries. In a world of technology, it is nice to be able to put the phone or laptop away and answer to no one for a few hours. Being able to put technology aside allows for the relaxing time so many people want to add to their lives. For those who live in the rural areas where wineries are being built, it is a bit more challenging to live a relaxing life. The struggle to find jobs in a small town that is not near much of anything becomes much easier when wineries offer a variety of jobs and grants rural citizens the ability to find the relaxation they are looking for. With the hustle of everyday life, people want to have a place they can go to unwind. Wineries are an amazing option for peace and tranquility. • 32. The Effect Of Endometriosis On Vitro Fertilization The Effect of Endometriosis on In Vitro Fertilization By: Brittany Pangilinan Abstract The success of in vitro fertilization treatment is compromised when a patient is suffering from endometriosis. Endometriosis creates scar tissue and adhesions on the women s ovaries and other reproductive structures preventing the joining of the egg and sperm during fertilization. In vitro fertilization was created in 1977 to manually join the egg and sperm in hope of fertilization in patients who cannot conceive on their own. Researchers have found a strong correlation between the severity of the condition and the patient s success in IVF treatment. The future in IVF and endometriosis research can soon uncover the cause of endometriosis, further revealing different modes of alternatives in reproduction. Literature Review Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, normally located inside the uterus, lines the outside. The condition most commonly affects the ovaries and peritoneum, and affects approximately 10% of women in the United States (Barnhart et. el. 2002). The misplaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it would in the usual situation; the tissue thickens, breaks down, and bleeds with the menstrual cycle. Since there is no exit path for the tissue to leave the body, the tissue becomes trapped inside the abdomen, causing severe pain (Mayo Clinic, 2013). When the ovaries are affected from endometriosis, cysts called endometriomas may form. The surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Black Swan Analysis Using Oral Conventions in Black Swan to Expose Mental Turmoil Darren Aronofsky s Black Swan, showcases Nathalie Portman as Nina Sayers, a member of a prestigious dance company where she faces external and internal pressures to be the elite. In the NYC dance company, Nina struggles to maintain the lead role. The constant mental instability consumes her, leading to her downfall. Orals have the power to intensify a performance, and they can allow for insight on a person s thoughts and troubles. Visual conventions work alongside and help support oral conventions to successfully present both a rhetorical message and experience. Oral conventions such as speed and length, volume and tone set by instruments parallel and portray Nina s monstrous characteristics of a constant rush of conflicts resulting in an unstable mentality. Composer, Clint Mansell, was the former lead singer of the band, Pop Will Eat Itself. He debuted his film scoring in the film Pi and then worked alongside director, Darren Aronofskyto compose the soundtrack to Black Swan. Clint Mansell was inspired by Tchaikovsky when he created the instrumental pieces. Mansell relates with the desire to move forward, change, and become the things you d really really love to be (Acharya). He was able to portray this mental state because he acknowledges that in today s world you identify with that double edged sword, of really wanting to achieve things and do your best, while realising that there s a bit of an ache to the other parts of your life (Acharya). He experiences the hardships of trying to perfect his work in the music industry. Mansell personally resonates with the theme of confusion that Black Swan carries enabling him to create a relatable and raw soundtrack. In 2010, this film was released to a modern society where individuals suffer from diagnosed psychological illnesses. Constant pressures of school, work, and balancing a healthy life can cause physical, emotional, and mental harm, transforming an individual s sanity to complete insanity. The purpose of this paper to explain why the Jomini s theories are a school of thoughts that remain adequate for explaining warfare in the modern era. The importance of logistics, the acceptance of principles of war, and the concept of the geometry of battlespace proposed by Jomini s theories are three broad concepts that are still adequate for explaining in the modern era. Incorporating the logistics in the planning process is a key task to achieve important militaryoutcomes. Clausewitz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mallick argues that The Principles of War are the principles expressing the rules of military thought and actions that serve as the permanent basis for combat doctrine. Ettrich mentioned that to have a better understanding of how Jomini developed his principles of war creating a set of thoughts that have remained relatively unaltered for approximately two centuries, it is necessary to study his life, his intense studies of war, military career, and the circumstances that shaped his tactical and strategic thinking. Jomini as the same way of other military philosophers, tried to articulate his insights about of the art of war presenting his ideas through a list of maxims or as a list of general truths whose application contributes to success in war, they may be legitimately viewed, as the prototype of the modern principles of war . Jomini s maxims are the closest thought to the modern principles of war. Without considering the fact that Jomini never defined his concepts like general principles of war, nor did he provided precise details of the fundamental principles he wrote, these have been adopted for many armies in the world. In chapter six of Peter Paret s Makers of Modern Strategy: From Machiavelli to the Nuclear Age, John Shy mentioned that many of the nineteenth centuries military leaders accepted Jomini s maxims as valid principles. Ettrich recalls that historically, the Jomini s concepts of principles of war were introduced to the United States in 1817 and were used initially at the US Military Academy; these principles are still valid in the US Army doctrine. Weigley argues that during the United States Civil War, military leaders from both sides embraced concepts and principles learned while studying as contemporaries at the Military Academy prior to the rise and secession of the Confederacy ; as a result, Union and Confederates leaders achieved ... Human security safeguards and expands the vital freedoms of people, requires shielding people from acute threats and empowers them to change their lives. A gender sensitive human security concept looks at conflict, post conflict, poverty, migration, economic security, knowledge and values. A gendered instrument to achieve human security for both men and women is to allow more women roles and seats in local and national governments, to shift gender perspectives to the political debate. Gender refers to the social and cultural differences between the sexes, is focused on the welfare of people, supports human rights and addresses post conflict resolution. The management should set up monthly workshops to interact with their employees, thus making the employees feel that the management is well within their reach and is ready to listen to their pleas. Organizing such workshops will stimulate the feedback process which will help the management to cut down on production and sales costs in turn maximising the returns (Arnolds amp; Boshoff, 2002). We are reminded about their long, devastating journey to reach their goals and maintain their prosperity; however, not once do we hear of their wives or female siblings. In the early 1900 s it was still presumed that this was the role of the man. A woman from Kansas, however, rose beyond the clouds of prejudice her name Amelia Earhart. All this was done during a time and place where people lossed their jobs, and the economy was bad. Unemployment rate almost tripled between 1930 and 1933 as it jumped from 8.9 percent to 24.9 percent. Americans relied on Earhart s successes as national achievements and viewed them as encouragement through all of the unrest of the great depression. It is one of several components which help keep us alive. However, a significant percentage of the human population has difficulty reaching and maintaining Stage IV within their sleeping patterns, the stage that allows the mind and body to fall into a deep and restorative sleep, known as REM sleep. This is a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea, a serious, potentially life threatening condition that is far more common than generally understood (Sleep Apnea n.d.). Obstructive sleep apnea can be very dangerous if it is not properly detected and treated. Nearly 18 billion Americans today (or 1 out of every 5) have a form of sleep apnea. • 50. Monster Study Stuttering Theory The Monster Study Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from (Reynolds, 2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect, meaning the brain s signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a learned behavior and could be unlearned (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct, Johnson devised an experiment now known as the Monster Study. Before he could begin he requested the help of one of his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for him. Before the experiment Tudor and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty six children s speech on a scale of one to five, one being poor and five being fluent (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). Based on this the children were separated into four groups: IA consisted of five children who stuttered, but were told nice things; IB consisted of five children who stuttered and were told negative things; IIA consisted of six children who did not stutter but, were told they did, and, IIB consisted of six children who did not stutter and were told nice things. Tudor used rehearsed responses such as, you will be able to speak even better than you are speaking now on students in IA and responses such as Don t ever speak unless you can do it right on children in IIA (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag.).
