Western Roman Empire Research Paper
Many factors led to the transition from a republic to an empire, no one event or person is to blame. For
one the Roman Republic constitution was never really laid out for conquest with wealthy oversea
territories so the addition of more provinces caused the delicate balance within the political
constitution the begin to collapse. The Romans had a fatal flaw: they were great in warfare changes
but when it came to political changes, they were pretty hard headed. Their refusal to adapt to political
change soon became a major factor in the fall of the Republic and rise of an Empire. Since the
Romans were great at warfare, of course that was also a factor in the fall but it wasn t just war with
other countries, it was war within as well. As they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Empire was split in half because the Empire had grown far too large to govern all of Rome from
one seat alone. Diocletian, an Emperor, divided Rome where the Eastern side would be governed out
of Byzantium and the Western side governed out of Rome. The two halves of the Empire were equally
doing great but then when Emperor Theodosius came into power in 379 CE, the fall began. Barbarian
attacks and religious disagreement were two major causes for the fall. Christianity was rising, pagan
rites were being knocked, and Roman beliefs were just crumbling. The waring within the Empire left
it weakened and ultimately vulnerable. Which then left their defences down long enough for barbarian
attacks. Christianity is a monotheistic religion, only one god, which clashed with the traditional
Roman religion that was polytheistic, multiple gods. Persecution was brought down on Christians
horribly that is, until Constantine, the first Christian Emperor, ended the tyranny over the Christians in
313 CE. Soon Christianity became an official religion and the Western Empire was Roman Catholic.
By Roman beliefs, the Emperor was considered a god of sorts but the Christians only followed one
god and since Christianity was spreading more and more the Emperor s authority was

Who s To Blame For The Tragic End Of Romeo And Juliet
1. In my opinion, Romeo is the person who can be blamed most for the tragic end of Romeo and
Juliet. Of every character in the play, Romeo made the rashest decisions throughout the play. Of the
major obstacles Romeo and Juliet face, most are the direct result of those actions, such as Romeo s
exile because he killed Tybalt, and Juliet killing herself because Romeo assumed she had died. If
every character in Romeo and Juliet were exactly the same, only Romeo thought his actions through,
it is quite likely that he and Juliet could have lived to the end of the play.
2. I think that the best way all of the events in Romeo and Juliet would have been avoided if Romeo
had simply did not go to the Capulet s party. Romeo had no business being there in the first place, as a
Montague, and risking a clash with the family that has been feuding with yours for generations for a ...

If I were friends with either Romeo or Juliet, I would absolutely tell them in the very beginning to stop
pursuing the other simply because of the feud. It is stressed in the play that the feud was so deeply
rooted that a relationship between two members of the warring families would not be tolerated. If that
did not stop them from counting to have a forbidden relationship I would attempt to convince them
that it cannot truly be love, because of their very short time together, before anything escalated too
quickly. Towards the middle of the play, when Romeo is banished to Mantua, if I were to give either
of them advice, it would be to call it a loss and find another. It is already shown in Act I that Romeo s
love is somewhat fickle, as he quickly fell out of love with a girl who had him deeply depressed just a
day ago, and in love with another at the same time. If Romeo had given it time, he likely would have
met the next Rosa let later in his life. Overall I really would have told both Romeo and Juliet to think
through their actions and the consequences that follow, rather than act on emotion

An Analysis Of Stephen Dobyns Deceptions
Secrets are precious vessels, travelling from a person s heart, out of their mouth, and into another s
ear. But sometimes, due to misplaced trust, the vessels do not stay sealed, or protected, as they should
be. Rather, they are exposed to the masses, and that person s heart is one display for all to see and
judge and interpret. Poems are the secrets of a poet s heart. When a poet writes, it is not intended for
an audience. Rather, it comes from a private place that can no longer be suppressed. There is an
overwhelming desire to tell, to reveal, that leads a poet to paper. The paper serves as a blank space
where they can express their inner desires, fears, or experiences without worrying about the judgment
of others. Once a poem is finished, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Aids, Hiv, And Aids
AIDS and HIV in Africa
Picture this: a young child who is very skinny, ribs and all other bones are showing through the skin,
they are born with HIV. it then leads to AIDS, due to their parents. HIV is a Human
Immunodeficiency Virus. If HIV is left untreated, it can lead to AIDS, which is an acquired
Immunodeficiency Syndrome. In Nigeria, Africa millions of people have the disease of AIDS and
HIV. There is not many treatment options or solutions for this serious issue that takes place all over
the country. There are a few aspects one must understand about this movement to fully understand its
importance, whether those are what exactly HIV/AIDS is and how deadly it actually is, how potently
it is actually affecting Nigeria and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clean needle exchange is not available in Nigeria. HIV is not only spread through sexual contact. Sex
workers are another common way for people to carry the disease. The majority of the people do not
know their HIV or AIDS status. There are many solutions that may have worked in the past, but with a
twist to this solution of people living with AIDS and HIV. For the people who do not know their HIV
and AIDS status, at home tests would allow them to test themselves. This would give individuals the
knowledge of what their own status is if they were HIV positive or HIV negative. If the people were
more educated about their health and disease, these problems would not be so bad in Africa. Another
way to treat these people with the disease is by medications and antibiotics. In the United States, they
are using many medications to fight HIV infection. The medication they are using is called
Antiretroviral therapy, also known as ART, this medication is not a cure. Although it does control the
virus so they can live and reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to others, from the Overview of HIV
Treatments (2015), they state that, These HIV medicines prevent HIV from multiplying (making
copies of itself), which reduces the amount of HIV in your body. Having less HIV in your body gives
your immune system a chance to recover and fight off infections and cancers. Even though there is
still some HIV in the body, the immune system is strong enough to fight off

Renewable Resources For Renewable Energy
Introduction
In the most basic definition, energy is power that is harnessed from physical or chemical resources,
often utilized in order to produced light, heat or fuel. It can be extracted from various renewable or
non renewable sources and has become a necessity for day to day life. Currently non reusable
resources account for the majority of energy production. The prominence of fossil fuels in the energy
sector validates this claim. At the same time this statement reveals a major world issue in regards to
energy sustainability. Although they may able to produce copious amounts of energy, non renewable
resources cannot renew themselves on the timescale required by current energy consumption. With
this in mind, non renewable resource depletion is inevitable without sustainable energy alternatives for
future generations. At this point it is important to recognize the difficulty of this task given the ever
increasing energy consumption associated with exponential population growth. Amongst all nations,
Canada is near the forefront of renewable energy; the country is the fourth largest producer of
renewable electrical energy despite its 8th place standing in energy consumption. This is undoubtable
due to the abundance of natural resources in its geographical location. Currently 17% of total energy
production is derived from renewable resources, despite the sector not being fully developed. Based
on its initiatives in incorporating more renewable energy technologies to

Willy Loman as Tragic Hero of Death of a Salesman Essay
Willy Loman as Tragic Hero of Death of a Salesman
Willy Loman, the title character of the play, Death of Salesman, exhibits all the characteristics of a
modern tragic hero. This essay will support this thesis by drawing on examples from Medea by
Euripedes, Poetics by Aristotle, Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, and Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, while
comments by Moss, Gordon, and Nourse reinforce the thesis.
Death of Salesman, by Arthur Miller, fits the characteristics of classic tragedy. ?.... this is, first of all, a
play about a man s death. And tragedy has from the beginning dealt with this awesome experience,
regarding it as significant and moving.? (Nourse). The first defining point of a tragedy is the hero. The

His tragic flaw, however, is more than evident. Like Jason in the classic tragedy Medea by Euripedes,
his sense of pride clouds reality. His business is in the work of a simple carpenter, but his pride won?t
leave him to settle for such low class work. ?Biff: What the hell do you want from me? What do you
want from me? Willy: Greatness ? (Miller, 220.) His judgment is so skewed by his dreams that he
even begins to try and live his fantasies through his sons, leading to his eventual end. ?I?m losing
weight, Dad, can?t you tell?? (51), Happy says as Willy boastfully rambles on about Biff?s great
achievements in football. The resentment that builds up because of the lack of interest in Happy?s life
on Willy?s account, also lead up to the tumultuous animosity between the two song and their father.
Pity for Willy is hardly avoidable when reading Death of a Salesman. His low rank, the lack of respect
displayed by his sons, his misguided dreams, all lead to sympathy for a character on the verge of
senility. ?Nobody dast blame this man,? (231) says Charley at the grave site, because, despite what
Willy was lead to believe, they understood the position he was in, even though the means do not
justify the end. His dream of success as a salesman failed. The sons whom he took so much

Macbeth s Downfall
British politician William Pitt once said that [u]nlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those
who possess it; and this I know ... that where law ends, tyranny begins . Pitt s assertion is substantiated
by William Shakespeare s 17th century tragedy entitled Macbeth, where the protagonist Macbeth
commits unspeakable crimes in his pursuit of power, including the murders of many innocent people
such as King Duncan I of Scotland, Macduff s entire family, and his friend Banquo. Consequently,
Macbeth becomes paranoid and is ultimately slain by Macduff at the end of play. Macbeth s lust for
power leads him to his downfall as it causes him to slowly metamorphose from a courageous, loyal,
and noble general to a brutal, cruel and inhumane tyrant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This includes murdering his friend and ally Banquo, who has done Macbeth no harm, as well as
attempting to murder Banquo s innocent son Fleance. Macbeth killed Duncan in order to make himself
king of Scotland, but he fears that his felony will be futile in the long term if Banquo s descendants,
rather than his own, are destined to wear the crown. In order to prevent his worst fear from becoming
reality, Macbeth hires assassins to assassinate Banquo and his son Fleance, in an effort to prevent the
witches prophecies about Banquo from being fulfilled. Macbeth attempts to tamper with fate even
though fate is an inevitable course of events that is predetermined by God and is beyond human
control. Macbeth kills Banquo in order to satisfy his greed and, thus, he must pay the consequences
for his actions. Additionally, Macbeth developed hubris, believing that he is invincible and nobody can
slay him. Consequently, Macbeth s hubris slowly becomes his dominant character trait. This is evident
when Macbeth visits the witches at his own free will. After the witches give him the three apparitions,
Macbeth presumes that the witches apparitions can never come true and, therefore, he is invulnerable
(Shakespeare 4.1.104 105). Macbeth s hubris lingers to the very end of the play, even when he knows
that his defeat is inevitable. When Macbeth finally realizes the witches deception during his fight with
Macduff, Macduff suggests that Macbeth should capitulate. In turn, Macbeth replies, I will not yield,/
To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet,/ And to be baited with the rabble s curse./ Though
Birnam wood be come to Dunsinane,/ And thou opposed, being of no woman born,/ Yet I will try the
last (Shakespeare 5.8.32 37). This quote bespeaks the magnitude of Macbeth s hubris. Macbeth
refuses to surrender to his enemies and demonstrates that his pride is so

Westerns often stress the harshness of the wilderness and frequently set the action in an arid, desolate
landscape. Specific settings include isolated forts, ranches and homesteads; the Native American
village; or the small frontier town with its saloon, general store, livery stable and jailhouse. Apart from
the wilderness, it is usually the saloon that emphasizes that this is the Wild West: it is the place to go

This book is about a man who changed his whole life in prison. The author s purpose for this book is

adults section in the library, also because some events in this story aren t meant for children to be
reading. For example you wouldn t read a book about someone selling, transporting, and smoking
hash, which is a drug to a child. I chose this book because I needed a short nonfiction book to read, so
that I could complete this book report. Chapter one, section one, is one of my favorites. It shows how
his dad is warning him about taking the criminal path in life. He and his dad used to ride around while

Face Off
简介
Face/Off is a 1997 action film directed by John Woo, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. The
two both play an FBI agent and a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume the physical appearance of one
another.
内容
The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage each
playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete creative
control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. Eventually grossing $245 million worldwide,
Face/Off was a financial success, as well as Woo s highest grossing American film.

To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of
its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition,
character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While
there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action
leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How
much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of
another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to
Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed.
Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean
Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one
particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns. Six
years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. Since then, a
thirst for revenge has driven the FBI agent to pursue Troy with a single minded relentlessness that has
alienated both his wife (Joan Allen) and his teenage daughter (Dominique Swain). When the latest

The Bus, A Modern Panacea
Have you ever considered taking the buses, not the car, to your destination? According to his essay
The Bus, a Modern Panacea, Lester Detroit states that the VTA system offers a fundamental solution
for not only the SJSU student but includes most people who commutes to school or work. He claims
that cars have the negative side effects for the environment problems; furthermore, cars are the
problem of both traffic congestion and wasting time and money. He insists that students should drop
their car culture and create a new bus culture. Bus is the cure all solution for students. As for students,
I strongly disagree with Detroit s point of view that VTA system is a suitable transportation for
students to commute. It is important for students to realize that not a lot of people know how to transit,
taking the bus is inconvenient, safety concern, and pollution.
There are buses everywhere around people, but how many of them actually know how to use transit?
In the survey report SJSU Transportation Solutions Fall 2012 Student Commute Survey Report, the
author Eyedin Zonobi points out statistics that 5.2% of students are either doesn t know about the
transit options or how to use transit. It has difficult time for students to transit when they don t know
how. For students, they need to go online and do the research, but is it wasting their time? They no
longer need to waste the time to Google map, if they have a car.
Taking the bus can be inconvenient because its

Picasso s Guernica: An analysis based on the methodologies provided by Panofsky and Barthes
In January 1937, Pablo Picasso accepted the commission for a 25 foot long mural for the Spanish
pavilion at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (Borja Villel et
al., 2010). This exposition was a creation of the Spanish Government in exile, at the time of the Civil
War. Therefore it was imbued with political and diplomatic meanings and served as propaganda for
the Republican Government (Borja Villel et al., 2010). The subject matter of the painting is the attack
on the Basque town of Guernica by German planes (Borja Villel et al., 2010). However, this event per
se is not what is highlighted in the painting. Picasso used this scene to demonstrate his personal
rejection of war and, taking this further, to demonstrate to the world the costly struggle by the Spanish
people in search for freedom (Borja Villel et al., 2010; Corbin, 1999). As a result, Guernica became to
be a worldwide icon for political protest (Kopper, 2014). The ... Show more content on

Additionally, the use of a purposive sample of self selected subjects to participate in the study could
bring about potential biases. Another potential bias is possible since individuals were only contacted
through Facebook and email. Only those who regularly checked their social media were included in
the study, those who weren t active users were excluded from the study.
Another salient point is that interviews allow researchers to easily obtain responses directly from
personal experiences, but, these memories from personal experiences can be easily manipulated.
Moreover, while interviews lead to exploratory findings which are good for follow up studies, it can
also be extremely time consuming for a researcher.
Lastly, ethnographic observations also present several drawbacks. Aside from the ethical issues,
ethnographic observations can also be viewed as too subjective and time consuming.
There can also be a potential gender bias if the female to male ratio is not

How Did Howard Carter Death Curse
Howard Carter was a british archaeologist that was known for many famous discoveries during the
early 1900 s. Carter was the lead archaeologist in the dig of Tutankhamun s (aka King Tut ) tomb. The
finding of the tomb was one of the biggest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, even though
the opening of the tomb would forever change the team s lives. With all the excitement of this new
finding, the team threw caution to the wind and later opened the casket, little did they know that this
would later bring on a so called curse that was written in a prophecy many years ago for anyone who
disturbed the peace of a pharaoh. This curse became known as the death curse the boundaries for this
curse are limitless it knows no evil or good. According to the people in Carter s life he led a pretty
decent and well respected life for the time that he was alive, once the tomb was opened under his
command the curse began to slowly affect him and his teams lives no matter if they were good, bad,

this incident is the cobra was a sign of ancient egyptian royalty. This posed the question is the death
curse real? There are many other accounts of people from carter s team dying unexpectedly from
things such as blood poisoning. Many people began to ponder if the curse was a real life thing or a

In the scene where Chiron is driving around in his car with a man it is clearly visible that Chiron has
changed. He is wearing baggy shorts with a tank top showing off his muscles and has a gold grill. He

and become tough then he would ve still been taken advantage of and probably killed. Another very
important scene within the movie is when he meets his mother when he is older. His mother
emphasizes I messed up. I fucked it all the way up. I know that. But yo heart ain t gotta be black like

The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s
Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As
people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us
different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun.
It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our
downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to
symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the
idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art,
music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and
music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as
equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still
abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters
worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it
became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora
Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the

The essay Beauty of a dancer by Alice Walker describes a powerful event that happens in her life
when she was a chaild that changed her. She is young bright girl who is at the top of her class and is
the little spark in her family. She is the beautiful girl and she knows it. One accident changes all that
and the way she feels about herself for the majority of her life. Her brother owns a new toy Pellet gun
rifle. As they were playing outside she was shot in her eye. The wound left her slightly blind and a
noticeable scare on her eye. She no longer felt beautiful because of the scar and how people treated
her after. It had a significant effect on her actions. Alice Walker does not see the pretty girl in the ...

The European Crisis And The Transformative Role Of The Emu
How the EU responded to euro crisis and the transformative role of the EMU? That the incomplete
preparatory works in the initial period of the EU monetary establishment partly resulting in the euro
crisis, had revealed how unrigorous and incompatible mechanisms the EU institutions proposed and
conducted. There is no mechanism set up for addressing the debt crisis problem tracked back to the
time point when the euro was established, and thus resulted in the hastily drawn and agreed
emergency rescue plans, which were viewed unfavourable to the majority of EU countries as they
seemed merely synonymous with those bailouts. Based on this ambiguous and unstable solutions the
EU had provided, the worldwide disappointing impression had been created on the split opinions of
the larger countries that offered the loans regarding how best to save the crisis. In consequence, the
crisis had been prolonged along with the increasingly weakened EU confidence in international
markets due to the lack of decisive action. (Harari, 2014) As the most principle stance in EU monetary
architectures, the EMU has experienced an incredible institutional transformation under the
tremendous pressures not matter from the EU or national levels. In Dyson s (2000) observation, the
EMU s actual effects on European states began from 1 January 1999. However, the process for putting
its conditions in place can be traced to the European Monetary System (EMS) in 1979, since when the

Status of women in ISLAM
```STATUS OF WOMAN IN ISLAM
Woman as vital to life as man himself
Islam gives woman rights and privileges, never grated before
Modern woman seeks rights by force
Woman has equal share in every aspect of life
She is equal in responsibilities
She is equal in pursuit in knowledge
She is entitled to equal freedom of expression
Islam determines her share in inheritance
The saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in this regard, is following: Whosoever has a
daughter and he does not bury her alive, does not insult her, and does not favour his son over her, God
will enter him into Paradise .
The Holy Quran provides us a clear cut proof that woman is equal in all respects with man before
Almighty God in terms of her rights and responsibilities. The Holy Quran states: Every soul will be
(held) in pledge for its deeds (Quran 74:38)
In terms of religious obligations, such as offering daily prayers, fasting and pilgrimage, woman is no
different from man. In some cases indeed, woman has certain advantages over man. For example
woman can and did go into the mosque during the days of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and thereafter
attending the Friday prayers is optional for them while it is mandatory for men. This is clearly a tender
touch of the Islamic teachings because of the fact that a woman may be nursing her baby and thus may
be unable to offer prayers in mosque. They also take into account the physiological and psychological
changes associated with her natural female functions. The right of females to seek knowledge is not
different from that of males. When Islam enjoins the seeking of knowledge upon Muslims, it makes no
distinction between man and woman. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), said: Seeking
knowledge is
Therapeutic Rehabilitation
Shoulder instability is commonly seen in rehabilitation settings. Many patients come in either with
shoulder pain, spasticity, subluxation, decreased range of motion(ROM), stiffness, or instability.
Exercise is an effective key component in achieving stability of the shoulder. Therapeutic
rehabilitation relies on evidence based practice to provide the best care to improve function and
stability. The purpose of this research study was to investigate the effects of stretching and joint
stabilization exercises applied to spastic shoulder joints on improving shoulder dysfunction in
hemiplegic patients using three groups of hemiplegic patients (Young Youl You, Jin Gang Her, Ji Hea
reversed the pathological changes in tendons and improved shoulder function. This is seen by the
results discussed with the affected tendons being measured before and after the study showing a
decrease in the thickness of the tendons over time. The third group had the greatest decrease in
thickness. This group was the one that received 15 minutes of joint stabilization exercise and 15
minutes of stretching. The other two groups showed a decrease as well, however, less difference than
Similarities Between Martin Luther King And Gandhi
Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi both share the same philosophies on their approach to non
violence and directly opposing injustice, nonetheless, they have distinct methods to fight injustice,
such as the fact that Gandhi used more extreme tactics while King s techniques were more passive.
Given these points, Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi are perfect examples of individuals who
represent fighting for the good life, not only did they fight for themselves, but also for the people
around them. When King and Gandhi stood up to the injustice taking place, they both used methods of
nonviolence, though they had different ways of fighting it. Martin Luther King s philosophy towards
violence was very strategic. Whenever there was an injustice, ... Show more content on
They both represent what it means to fight for the good life and for others. King and Gandhi both
However, even though their philosophies are similar they have distinct methods to fight injustice.
King s philosophy regarding fighting for the good life is better than Gandhi s approach. Gandhi s
extreme methods of going on hunger strikes aren t widely practiced today and could lead to starvation
or death. Orwell even mentioned it in his book It is difficult to see how Gandhi s methods could be
applied in a country where opponents of the regime disappear in the middle of the night and are never
heard of again (Orwell, 1949). On the other hand, King s passive methods are more accepted and the
four steps to nonviolent campaigns are still being used today by activists. King and Gandhi both had
visions of the good life they wanted for themselves and others around them. King wanted the black
community to be treated fairly and have equal rights as the whites. He knew it wouldn t be given to
them and that if his people really wanted to be treated fairly they were going to have to fight
vigorously for it. In contrast, Gandhi s vision of the good life included India s independence and true
peace across the world. While Gandhi may have achieved India s independence his goal for world
peace is going to take time. A common theme between Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi is
that both died fighting and standing up to injustice. All in all, Martin Luther King and Mahatma
Selected Modernism literature passage is from Flame Heart by Claude McKay, I, too, sing America,
These passages were written during the Harlem Renaissance period. Close reading gave me an actual
First of all is my impression to a Flame Heart passage by Claude McKay.
The Importance Of Public Shaming In Today s Society
As an individual, it s a part of life to make plenty of mistakes, but is public shaming the answer to
solving it? In todays society, punishment for people is completely different from back in the Puritan
days. For example, in the novel the Scarlett Letter, Hester Prynne commits adultery, which leads her to
having to wear the letter A on her chest, which is a form of public humiliation but in this sense, it s not
right. This is Hester Prynne s sin that she committed that she lives with forever and it shouldn t be any
of the public business for her to be humiliated even more. This is a form of public ridicule,
reintegrative shaming where attention can be drawn by wrong doing, and in order for you to learn in
life you have make some mistakes . Public shaming is immoral in today s society because as an
individual that has done something wrong, you will start to feel like an outcast besides having to
endure humiliation for your actions.
(Article 1) To start off, public humiliation is a form ridicule which is a complete mockery. This is a
way of degrading someone and their position while people gather to taunt, tease, and verbally abuse
one emotionally. When an individual is humiliated for what he or she has done, it already hurts them
deep down inside which causes them to feel destroyed or not worthy of living anymore. In the Scarlett
Letter, for example, Hawthorne state that her heart had been flung into the street for them all to spurn
My Statement of Purpose for a Course on Networks and IP...
Statement of Purpose Introduction From an early age I learned to look at challenges not as
insurmountable problems, but as opportunities for continual growth, personal discovery, and
ultimately achievement. This mindset of translating challenges pervades my academic career to this
point, and in pursuing a Masters of Science degree I hope to challenge myself to the next level of
academic and professional achievement. Networks and IP Security The innate strengths I have include
the ability to create, critique and analyze algorithms for optimal performance, in addition to router
ripping, protocol analysis and understanding of and interest in data structures and data models. I have
excelled in the areas of electric circuitry design and components, and have also discovered an innate
ability to troubleshoot problems from a systemic, highly focused standpoint. This ability to view entire
networks and the Internet from a very detailed, systemic standpoint has also helped me to excel in
related studies of programming, data structures and algorithm development. The study of security has
been based on the insights gained from viewing the many functional areas of networks through the
perspective of fault tolerance, authentication, advanced connectivity and the development of data
structures that enable communication and collaboration (Adams, 1986). My passion is in the area of
computer networks and security, which is an area I will continually strive to excel in, relying on
Egyptian religion was based on polytheism. Polytheism is the worshiping of many deities. With well
form an underlying foundation for many of the tensions between Sierra Leone which contributed to
the initial lack of economic prosperity for the settlement of freed slaves. Initial interactions founded
these tensions. Newly arrived freed slaves that settled in colonies in Sierra Leone employed local
Africans to help with building their settlements. However, despite this aid, the strains on the settlers in
terms of disease and disorder caused the initial settlements to fail. After this failure, more freed slaves
attempted to settle again at a different time of the year. They were warned that if they behaved
improperly, local African rulers would take them and sell them on slave ships (Braidwood 1994).
Indigenous Africans challenged this arrival of settlers and aggravated them, and settlers requested
defense supplies from Europe for fear of being massacred (Braidwood 1994). One of the shortfalls of
Thompson s perspective is that he seems to be unaware of the magnitude of the tensions between
indigenous Africans and freed slaves. Tribal chiefs led movements in resistance to European influence,
and Thompson is largely ignorant of this. The Temne chiefs who sold Freetown to British abolitionists
initiated a series of misunderstandings that would later incite conflict between the groups. This
founded some of the conflicts between indigenous Africans and Europeans, but Tribal chiefs were not
only provoked by European influence. The decline of the slave trade also meant that tribal
The Indian Removal And The Colonization Of The United...
Between the years 1816 and 1850, over one hundred thousand Indians from sixty different tribes were
relocated from their homelands and moved west; around thirty thousand Indians would die en route.
The Indian Removal stands as one of the cruelest periods in the history of the United States, and is the
result of a long history of war and disagreement between whites and Indians.
Indians and Europeans had their differences. The culture of the Indian tribes was very different than
that of the incoming white settlers. Indian nations held a deep respect for nature, and felt that the land
belonged to no individual.The white European settlers believed in private land ownership. However,
in spite of these differences, some white settlers and Indians developed successful trade relationships.
Still, Indians were long regarded as savages by white Europeans . Spaniards treated them with extreme
brutality, imprisoning Indians and confiscating their lands. And as time passed, Indians and Europeans
would begin to fight over land claims.
200 years later, Indians and Europeans had several written treaties, but the Europeans often ignored
the treaties and encroached on Native territory. Indians sought ways to stop the settlers from taking
their lands, sometimes turning to war.
In the American Revolutionary War, most Indians fought on the side of the British. Indians believed
that Britain was the better option for winning the war, as they hoped the British would help curb the
Staphylococcus aureus Essay example
Staphylococcus aureus
Life History and Characteristics: Staphylococcus aureus is a gram positive bacterium that is usually
found in the nasal passages and on the skin of 15 to 40% of healthy humans, but can also survive in a
wide variety of locations in the body. This bacterium is spread from person to person or to fomite by
direct contact. Colonies of S. aureus appear in pairs, chains, or clusters. S. aureus is not an organism
that is contained to one region of the world and is a universal health concern, specifically in the food
handling industries.
Diseases: The most common health concern associated with S. aureus is food poisoning caused by the
release of enterotoxins, even in small doses, into food. Release of less than 1 ... Show more content on
The release of two exotoxins from certain strains of S. aureus can lead to Staphylococcal scaled skin
syndrome (SSSS), which is characterized by blistering skin. Invasion into the body can lead to more
serious health problems including pneumonia (a frequent complication of influenza), mastitis,
phlebitis (inflammation of the veins), meningitis, and urinary tract infections. If the bacterium is
allowed to colonize even deeper tissues more serious conditions such as osteomyelitis and
endocarditis may result. The most serious consequences of these deeper tissue infections occur when
the bacterium invades the bloodstream leading to septic shock and possibly death.
Virulence Factors: The most important virulence factor of S. aureus is the specific surface proteins that
allow the organism to attach to host proteins. The surface proteins of this bacterium allow it to attach
to host proteins such as laminin and fibronectin, which form the extracellular matrix of epithelial and
endothelial cells. S. aureus also produces a number of membrane damaging toxins that allow the
organism to further invade and harm the host, of which the alpha toxin is the most well studied and is
the protein responsible for septic shock. The alpha toxin is a protein that binds to a specific receptor in
platelets and monocytes in humans, forming pores that eventually destroy the cell.
A second toxin that is significant in human infection is the gamma toxin (also called leukotoxin)
Limitations Of Naturalistic Observation
Naturalistic observation involves making observations of everyday events and recording those
observations in an objective manner (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Participants of a naturalistic observation
are observed in natural surroundings. The goal of naturalistic observation is to create a snapshot of the
current state of affairs. One advantage to naturalistic observation is that it provides a way to collect
data about the topic of interest (Stangor, 2016, p.40). Naturalistic observation is said to have
ecological validity. Ecological validity refers to the extent to which the research is conducted in
situations that are similar to everyday life experiences of the participants (Stangor, 2016, p.40). This
research design also allows the researcher to observe group behaviors in a specific setting. Despite its
advantages naturalistic observation also has some limitations. This design does not assess
relationships among variables (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Meaning that a cause and effect relationship
cannot be created. The results of this observation are generally limited to the group being studied.
More importantly, naturalistic observation cannot be used to test research hypotheses about which
types of group behavior are related to or caused by which other variables (Stangor, 2016, p.41).
According to an article published in Case Management Advisor (2008), education assists case
managers with being as knowledgeable as possible to identify and coordinate all the resources that
also suggests that advocacy is an ethical responsibility of a case manager. When advocacy is forgotten
ethical issues occur. Fraser and Strang (2004) explain that case managers must be given the tools to
allow them to function in their role with confidence and competence to act as strong advocates for
their patients. Support for decision making is also a key component of case management. Coffman
  • 2. Western Roman Empire Research Paper Many factors led to the transition from a republic to an empire, no one event or person is to blame. For one the Roman Republic constitution was never really laid out for conquest with wealthy oversea territories so the addition of more provinces caused the delicate balance within the political constitution the begin to collapse. The Romans had a fatal flaw: they were great in warfare changes but when it came to political changes, they were pretty hard headed. Their refusal to adapt to political change soon became a major factor in the fall of the Republic and rise of an Empire. Since the Romans were great at warfare, of course that was also a factor in the fall but it wasn t just war with other countries, it was war within as well. As they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Empire was split in half because the Empire had grown far too large to govern all of Rome from one seat alone. Diocletian, an Emperor, divided Rome where the Eastern side would be governed out of Byzantium and the Western side governed out of Rome. The two halves of the Empire were equally doing great but then when Emperor Theodosius came into power in 379 CE, the fall began. Barbarian attacks and religious disagreement were two major causes for the fall. Christianity was rising, pagan rites were being knocked, and Roman beliefs were just crumbling. The waring within the Empire left it weakened and ultimately vulnerable. Which then left their defences down long enough for barbarian attacks. Christianity is a monotheistic religion, only one god, which clashed with the traditional Roman religion that was polytheistic, multiple gods. Persecution was brought down on Christians horribly that is, until Constantine, the first Christian Emperor, ended the tyranny over the Christians in 313 CE. Soon Christianity became an official religion and the Western Empire was Roman Catholic. By Roman beliefs, the Emperor was considered a god of sorts but the Christians only followed one god and since Christianity was spreading more and more the Emperor s authority was ...   • 3. Who s To Blame For The Tragic End Of Romeo And Juliet 1. In my opinion, Romeo is the person who can be blamed most for the tragic end of Romeo and Juliet. Of every character in the play, Romeo made the rashest decisions throughout the play. Of the major obstacles Romeo and Juliet face, most are the direct result of those actions, such as Romeo s exile because he killed Tybalt, and Juliet killing herself because Romeo assumed she had died. If every character in Romeo and Juliet were exactly the same, only Romeo thought his actions through, it is quite likely that he and Juliet could have lived to the end of the play. 2. I think that the best way all of the events in Romeo and Juliet would have been avoided if Romeo had simply did not go to the Capulet s party. Romeo had no business being there in the first place, as a Montague, and risking a clash with the family that has been feuding with yours for generations for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If I were friends with either Romeo or Juliet, I would absolutely tell them in the very beginning to stop pursuing the other simply because of the feud. It is stressed in the play that the feud was so deeply rooted that a relationship between two members of the warring families would not be tolerated. If that did not stop them from counting to have a forbidden relationship I would attempt to convince them that it cannot truly be love, because of their very short time together, before anything escalated too quickly. Towards the middle of the play, when Romeo is banished to Mantua, if I were to give either of them advice, it would be to call it a loss and find another. It is already shown in Act I that Romeo s love is somewhat fickle, as he quickly fell out of love with a girl who had him deeply depressed just a day ago, and in love with another at the same time. If Romeo had given it time, he likely would have met the next Rosa let later in his life. Overall I really would have told both Romeo and Juliet to think through their actions and the consequences that follow, rather than act on emotion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. An Analysis Of Stephen Dobyns Deceptions Secrets are precious vessels, travelling from a person s heart, out of their mouth, and into another s ear. But sometimes, due to misplaced trust, the vessels do not stay sealed, or protected, as they should be. Rather, they are exposed to the masses, and that person s heart is one display for all to see and judge and interpret. Poems are the secrets of a poet s heart. When a poet writes, it is not intended for an audience. Rather, it comes from a private place that can no longer be suppressed. There is an overwhelming desire to tell, to reveal, that leads a poet to paper. The paper serves as a blank space where they can express their inner desires, fears, or experiences without worrying about the judgment of others. Once a poem is finished, ... Aids, Hiv, And Aids AIDS and HIV in Africa Picture this: a young child who is very skinny, ribs and all other bones are showing through the skin, they are born with HIV. it then leads to AIDS, due to their parents. HIV is a Human Immunodeficiency Virus. If HIV is left untreated, it can lead to AIDS, which is an acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. In Nigeria, Africa millions of people have the disease of AIDS and HIV. There is not many treatment options or solutions for this serious issue that takes place all over the country. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clean needle exchange is not available in Nigeria. HIV is not only spread through sexual contact. Sex workers are another common way for people to carry the disease. The majority of the people do not know their HIV or AIDS status. There are many solutions that may have worked in the past, but with a twist to this solution of people living with AIDS and HIV. For the people who do not know their HIV and AIDS status, at home tests would allow them to test themselves. This would give individuals the knowledge of what their own status is if they were HIV positive or HIV negative. If the people were more educated about their health and disease, these problems would not be so bad in Africa. Another way to treat these people with the disease is by medications and antibiotics. In the United States, they are using many medications to fight HIV infection. The medication they are using is called Antiretroviral therapy, also known as ART, this medication is not a cure. Although it does control the virus so they can live and reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to others, from the Overview of HIV Treatments (2015), they state that, These HIV medicines prevent HIV from multiplying (making copies of itself), which reduces the amount of HIV in your body.   • 6. Renewable Resources For Renewable Energy Introduction In the most basic definition, energy is power that is harnessed from physical or chemical resources, often utilized in order to produced light, heat or fuel. It can be extracted from various renewable or non renewable sources and has become a necessity for day to day life. Currently non reusable resources account for the majority of energy production. The prominence of fossil fuels in the energy sector validates this claim. At the same time this statement reveals a major world issue in regards to energy sustainability. Although they may able to produce copious amounts of energy, non renewable resources cannot renew themselves on the timescale required by current energy consumption. With this in mind, non renewable resource depletion is inevitable without sustainable energy alternatives for future generations. At this point it is important to recognize the difficulty of this task given the ever increasing energy consumption associated with exponential population growth. Amongst all nations, Canada is near the forefront of renewable energy; the country is the fourth largest producer of renewable electrical energy despite its 8th place standing in energy consumption. This is undoubtable due to the abundance of natural resources in its geographical location. Currently 17% of total energy production is derived from renewable resources, despite the sector not being fully developed. Based on its initiatives in incorporating more renewable energy technologies to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Willy Loman as Tragic Hero of Death of a Salesman Essay Willy Loman as Tragic Hero of Death of a Salesman Willy Loman, the title character of the play, Death of Salesman, exhibits all the characteristics of a modern tragic hero. This essay will support this thesis by drawing on examples from Medea by Euripedes, Poetics by Aristotle, Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, and Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, while comments by Moss, Gordon, and Nourse reinforce the thesis. Death of Salesman, by Arthur Miller, fits the characteristics of classic tragedy. ?.... this is, first of all, a play about a man s death. And tragedy has from the beginning dealt with this awesome experience, regarding it as significant and moving.? (Nourse). The first defining point of a tragedy is the hero. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His tragic flaw, however, is more than evident. Like Jason in the classic tragedy Medea by Euripedes, his sense of pride clouds reality. His business is in the work of a simple carpenter, but his pride won?t leave him to settle for such low class work. ?Biff: What the hell do you want from me? What do you want from me? Willy: Greatness ? (Miller, 220.) His judgment is so skewed by his dreams that he even begins to try and live his fantasies through his sons, leading to his eventual end. ?I?m losing weight, Dad, can?t you tell?? (51), Happy says as Willy boastfully rambles on about Biff?s great achievements in football. The resentment that builds up because of the lack of interest in Happy?s life on Willy?s account, also lead up to the tumultuous animosity between the two song and their father. Pity for Willy is hardly avoidable when reading Death of a Salesman. His low rank, the lack of respect displayed by his sons, his misguided dreams, all lead to sympathy for a character on the verge of senility. ?Nobody dast blame this man,?   • 8. Macbeth s Downfall British politician William Pitt once said that [u]nlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it; and this I know ... that where law ends, tyranny begins . Pitt s assertion is substantiated by William Shakespeare s 17th century tragedy entitled Macbeth, where the protagonist Macbeth commits unspeakable crimes in his pursuit of power, including the murders of many innocent people such as King Duncan I of Scotland, Macduff s entire family, and his friend Banquo. Consequently, Macbeth becomes paranoid and is ultimately slain by Macduff at the end of play. Macbeth s lust for power leads him to his downfall as it causes him to slowly metamorphose from a courageous, loyal, and noble general to a brutal, cruel and inhumane tyrant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This includes murdering his friend and ally Banquo, who has done Macbeth no harm, as well as attempting to murder Banquo s innocent son Fleance. Macbeth killed Duncan in order to make himself king of Scotland, but he fears that his felony will be futile in the long term if Banquo s descendants, rather than his own, are destined to wear the crown. In order to prevent his worst fear from becoming reality, Macbeth hires assassins to assassinate Banquo and his son Fleance, in an effort to prevent the witches prophecies about Banquo from being fulfilled. Macbeth attempts to tamper with fate even though fate is an inevitable course of events that is predetermined by God and is beyond human control. Macbeth kills Banquo in order to satisfy his greed and, thus, he must pay the consequences for his actions. Additionally, Macbeth developed hubris, believing that he is invincible and nobody can slay him. Consequently, Macbeth s hubris slowly becomes his dominant character trait. This is evident when Macbeth visits the witches at his own free will. After the witches give him the three apparitions, Macbeth presumes that the witches apparitions can never come true and, therefore, he is invulnerable (Shakespeare 4.1.104 105). Macbeth s hubris lingers to the very end of the play, even when he knows that his defeat is inevitable. When Macbeth finally realizes the witches deception during his fight with Macduff, Macduff suggests that Macbeth should capitulate. In turn, Macbeth replies, I will not yield,/ To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet,/ And to be baited with the rabble s curse./ Though Birnam wood be come to Dunsinane,/ And thou opposed, being of no woman born,/ Yet I will try the last (Shakespeare 5.8.32 37). He wrote this book for a young adult audience. I know this because I found it in the young adults section in the library, also because some events in this story aren t meant for children to be reading. For example you wouldn t read a book about someone selling, transporting, and smoking hash, which is a drug to a child. I chose this book because I needed a short nonfiction book to read, so that I could complete this book report. Chapter one, section one, is one of my favorites. The two both play an FBI agent and a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume the physical appearance of one another. 内容 The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage each playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete creative control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition, character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed. Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns.   • 13. The Bus, A Modern Panacea Have you ever considered taking the buses, not the car, to your destination? According to his essay The Bus, a Modern Panacea, Lester Detroit states that the VTA system offers a fundamental solution for not only the SJSU student but includes most people who commutes to school or work. He claims that cars have the negative side effects for the environment problems; furthermore, cars are the problem of both traffic congestion and wasting time and money. He insists that students should drop their car culture and create a new bus culture. Bus is the cure all solution for students. As for students, I strongly disagree with Detroit s point of view that VTA system is a suitable transportation for students to commute. It is important for students to realize that not a lot of people know how to transit, taking the bus is inconvenient, safety concern, and pollution. There are buses everywhere around people, but how many of them actually know how to use transit? In the survey report SJSU Transportation Solutions Fall 2012 Student Commute Survey Report, the author Eyedin Zonobi points out statistics that 5.2% of students are either doesn t know about the transit options or how to use transit. It has difficult time for students to transit when they don t know how. For students, they need to go online and do the research, but is it wasting their time? They no longer need to waste the time to Google map, if they have a car. Taking the bus can be inconvenient because its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
Critical Analysis Of Guernica Name: Raymonde Weyzen Assignment: Research Paper Course: Visual Methodologies Supervisor: Alena Alexandrova Date: 18 December 2014 Picasso s Guernica: An analysis based on the methodologies provided by Panofsky and Barthes In January 1937, Pablo Picasso accepted the commission for a 25 foot long mural for the Spanish pavilion at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (Borja Villel et al., 2010). This exposition was a creation of the Spanish Government in exile, at the time of the Civil War. Therefore it was imbued with political and diplomatic meanings and served as propaganda for the Republican Government (Borja Villel et al., 2010). The subject matter of the painting is the attack on the Basque town of Guernica by German planes (Borja Villel et al., 2010). However, this event per se is not what is highlighted in the painting. Picasso used this scene to demonstrate his personal rejection of war and, taking this further, to demonstrate to the world the costly struggle by the Spanish people in search for freedom (Borja Villel et al., 2010; Corbin, 1999). As a result, Guernica became to be a worldwide icon for political protest (Kopper, 2014). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us different. It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art, music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. There is no mechanism set up for addressing the debt crisis problem tracked back to the time point when the euro was established, and thus resulted in the hastily drawn and agreed emergency rescue plans, which were viewed unfavourable to the majority of EU countries as they seemed merely synonymous with those bailouts. The Holy Quran states: Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds (Quran 74:38) In terms of religious obligations, such as offering daily prayers, fasting and pilgrimage, woman is no different from man. In some cases indeed, woman has certain advantages over man. Jacks Causes And Disadvantages form an underlying foundation for many of the tensions between Sierra Leone which contributed to the initial lack of economic prosperity for the settlement of freed slaves. Initial interactions founded these tensions. Newly arrived freed slaves that settled in colonies in Sierra Leone employed local Africans to help with building their settlements. However, despite this aid, the strains on the settlers in terms of disease and disorder caused the initial settlements to fail. After this failure, more freed slaves attempted to settle again at a different time of the year. They were warned that if they behaved improperly, local African rulers would take them and sell them on slave ships (Braidwood 1994). Indigenous Africans challenged this arrival of settlers and aggravated them, and settlers requested defense supplies from Europe for fear of being massacred (Braidwood 1994). One of the shortfalls of Thompson s perspective is that he seems to be unaware of the magnitude of the tensions between indigenous Africans and freed slaves. Tribal chiefs led movements in resistance to European influence, and Thompson is largely ignorant of this. The Temne chiefs who sold Freetown to British abolitionists initiated a series of misunderstandings that would later incite conflict between the groups. This founded some of the conflicts between indigenous Africans and Europeans, but Tribal chiefs were not only provoked by European influence. The decline of the slave trade also meant that tribal ... There were just shy of 400 documented cases of women who served as soldiers during the Civil War, according to the records of the Sanitary Commission. (Brown, 2012) Women during the 19th century, according to Historian Barbara Welters were hostage of the home . (Brown, 2012) Women were considered what we know now as home wives, without really the option of doing anything outside of the home. When the Civil War began, that meant that men left home ... These women camp followers tended to the sick, cleaned weapons, cooked, and help take care of the sick. (Middle Tennessee State University Teaching with Primary Sources, 2015) In my own opinion I believe the war had a great effect on the women of both the North and the South. Without them, I don t believe there would have been enough nurses to have saved the men they did and there wouldn t have been anything at home for all left on the home front. Because of the war, we have great American History about women and the impact they had on the Civil War and after. Which I believe led to a huge part of the Women s Rights Movement. What roles did the Black slaves play in the Civil War? What roles did the free Blacks play in the Civil War? How did the war affect each group? It took a clear and dire urging from the beloved General Robert E. Lee to convince the Confederate Congress to begin enlisting black soldiers. (Civil War Trust, 2015) Black men had tried to volunteer their services to the Union but because of President Lincoln being afraid of what it would do to the white men s morale, he rejected the blacks from volunteering for the war. However, in saying that, it did changed. President Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation, which stated All persons held as slaves within any States...in rebellion against the United States, shall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. 32 Fouettes-Mayan Injury The issue here is injured dancers and dancers dancing over or recovering from injuries. This does not follow any kind of predictable timeline in terms of recovery. From what we know of Boylston s injury it occurred during the Giselle and involved her ankle. Executing 32 fouettés requires turning on one ankle for a few minutes, really grinding that leg into the floor almost. So perhaps to prevent reinjuring her ankle, Boylston dumbed down the choreography. As we know, not all great Odette/Odiles have performed the 32 fouettés Maya Plisetskaya is a leading example. There was a time when only a few technically gifted ballerinas could do that stunt now every girl in the corps de ballet seems to be able to do it. There is a lot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Indian Removal And The Colonization Of The United... Between the years 1816 and 1850, over one hundred thousand Indians from sixty different tribes were relocated from their homelands and moved west; around thirty thousand Indians would die en route. The Indian Removal stands as one of the cruelest periods in the history of the United States, and is the result of a long history of war and disagreement between whites and Indians. Indians and Europeans had their differences. The culture of the Indian tribes was very different than that of the incoming white settlers. Indian nations held a deep respect for nature, and felt that the land belonged to no individual.The white European settlers believed in private land ownership. However, in spite of these differences, some white settlers and Indians developed successful trade relationships. Still, Indians were long regarded as savages by white Europeans . Spaniards treated them with extreme brutality, imprisoning Indians and confiscating their lands. And as time passed, Indians and Europeans would begin to fight over land claims. 200 years later, Indians and Europeans had several written treaties, but the Europeans often ignored the treaties and encroached on Native territory. Indians sought ways to stop the settlers from taking their lands, sometimes turning to war. In the American Revolutionary War, most Indians fought on the side of the British. Indians believed that Britain was the better option for winning the war, as they hoped the British would help curb the expansion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Staphylococcus aureus Essay example Staphylococcus aureus Life History and Characteristics: Staphylococcus aureus is a gram positive bacterium that is usually found in the nasal passages and on the skin of 15 to 40% of healthy humans, but can also survive in a wide variety of locations in the body. This bacterium is spread from person to person or to fomite by direct contact. Colonies of S. aureus appear in pairs, chains, or clusters. S. aureus is not an organism that is contained to one region of the world and is a universal health concern, specifically in the food handling industries. Diseases: The most common health concern associated with S. aureus is food poisoning caused by the release of enterotoxins, even in small doses, into food. Release of less than 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The release of two exotoxins from certain strains of S. aureus can lead to Staphylococcal scaled skin syndrome (SSSS), which is characterized by blistering skin. Invasion into the body can lead to more serious health problems including pneumonia (a frequent complication of influenza), mastitis, phlebitis (inflammation of the veins), meningitis, and urinary tract infections. If the bacterium is allowed to colonize even deeper tissues more serious conditions such as osteomyelitis and endocarditis may result. The most serious consequences of these deeper tissue infections occur when the bacterium invades the bloodstream leading to septic shock and possibly death. Virulence Factors: The most important virulence factor of S. aureus is the specific surface proteins that allow the organism to attach to host proteins. The surface proteins of this bacterium allow it to attach to host proteins such as laminin and fibronectin, which form the extracellular matrix of epithelial and endothelial cells. S. aureus also produces a number of membrane damaging toxins that allow the organism to further invade and harm the host, of which the alpha toxin is the most well studied and is the protein responsible for septic shock. The alpha toxin is a protein that binds to a specific receptor in platelets and monocytes in humans, forming pores that eventually destroy the cell. A second toxin that is significant in human infection is the gamma toxin (also called leukotoxin) which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Limitations Of Naturalistic Observation Naturalistic observation involves making observations of everyday events and recording those observations in an objective manner (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Participants of a naturalistic observation are observed in natural surroundings. The goal of naturalistic observation is to create a snapshot of the current state of affairs. One advantage to naturalistic observation is that it provides a way to collect data about the topic of interest (Stangor, 2016, p.40). Naturalistic observation is said to have ecological validity. Ecological validity refers to the extent to which the research is conducted in situations that are similar to everyday life experiences of the participants (Stangor, 2016, p.40). This research design also allows the researcher to observe group behaviors in a specific setting. Despite its advantages naturalistic observation also has some limitations. This design does not assess relationships among variables (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Meaning that a cause and effect relationship cannot be created. The results of this observation are generally limited to the group being studied. More importantly, naturalistic observation cannot be used to test research hypotheses about which types of group behavior are related to or caused by which other variables (Stangor, 2016, p.41). During the open meeting, the orienteer and gatekeeper, Susan was the person orienting the group. She introduced the items on the agenda, helped keep the group focused and on track. Susan does the ... According to an article published in Case Management Advisor (2008), education assists case managers with being as knowledgeable as possible to identify and coordinate all the resources that their patients need and continued education is an ethical responsibility of a case manager. The article also suggests that advocacy is an ethical responsibility of a case manager. When advocacy is forgotten ethical issues occur. Fraser and Strang (2004) explain that case managers must be given the tools to allow them to function in their role with confidence and competence to act as strong advocates for their patients. Support for decision making is also a key component of case management. Coffman (2001) offers key points from The Code of Professional Conduct for Case Managers advising that case managers are guided by the principle of autonom. Case mangers achieve autonomy through advocacy. If case managers are expected to function with complete autonomy, then case managers require the assusrance that their leader ship will support them when difficult decisions have to be made, (Fraser and Strang, 2004).
