This document presents a method for multi-sensor image fusion using temporal object detection from visible and infrared video frames. The method uses a Gaussian mixture model for background subtraction to detect foreground objects in each frame. An edge detection algorithm is then applied and the resulting edge maps are fused based on local differences to generate a fused output frame that emphasizes detected objects and preserves details from the visual frame. Experimental results demonstrate the fusion of daytime and low light visible and infrared frames. Future work will add object tracking capabilities to the system.
This document summarizes a numerical study of automatically controlling and stabilizing the pulse repetition rate of passively Q-switched laser systems. The researchers propose a technique called automatic pulsed pumping that detects generated Q-switched pulses and alters the pumping power accordingly. By simulating a diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser with Cr4+:YAG as a saturable absorber using rate equations, the technique showed good control over pulse repetition rate with high stability, allowing for both high rates like pulsed pumping and stability like continuous pumping.

The document describes an intelligent system for automatically selecting cutting tools and generating CNC programs for turning operations. The system uses neural networks and a database of cutting tools and geometric features. It works by taking a 3D CAD model as input, recognizing features, using neural networks to select optimal roughing and finishing tools, and generating a CNC program. An example application to a turning part is provided to illustrate the system. The system aims to intelligently select cutting tools and generate CNC programs like a human expert.
This document describes a proposed universal clock that combines features of different types of clocks. It would function as a scientific, religious, astronomical, astrological, ecological, and agricultural clock. It is based on the Mecca-Medina meridian and uses a lunar-solar calendar. The clock aims to show various time-related astronomical events and sync with biological clocks. It is presented as an improved timekeeping system that does not require seasonal time changes and is more natural than conventional clocks. The clock could have applications in aviation, maritime, and land transport.
The document discusses wind energy modeling at the Zafarana Wind Farm in Egypt. It provides background on the wind farm and outlines the methodology used. Wind speed and energy production data was collected hourly and monthly from the wind farm over one year. Statistical modeling using the Weibull distribution was then applied to the wind speed and energy data to characterize the wind resource at the site.
This document proposes a novel service providing protocol with QoS support over mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). It collects a list of available service providers and scores them based on reliability and response time to select the best provider. It uses a hidden Markov model to estimate the current state of the network as stable or dynamic, and service availability as normal or faulty. Based on the estimated state, different selection strategies are used to minimize hand-offs and provide reliable service, such as selecting providers with minimum response time in a stable, normal state or adding factors like hop count or mean time to failure in dynamic or faulty states. The method was evaluated in a MANET emulator and shown to improve disconnection and SLA change rates

This document describes research on a hexapod robot called COMET-IV that uses a laser range finder (LRF) to assist with force-based walking. It discusses the robot's configuration including its dimensions, sensors, and control system. An algorithm is proposed that uses the LRF to build a 3D grid map of obstacles in the environment and dynamically adjusts the robot's stable walking range based on force feedback. Experiments show the vision-assisted approach provides more stable walking behavior compared to no vision input. Future work is planned to further integrate sensor data and control leg movements for varied terrain.
The document describes a cognitive model that incorporates emotions to model decision making, specifically applied to modeling the behavior of the Red Baron fighter pilot. It develops an emotional model based on theories of emotions and combines this with a cognitive model. Relationships between emotions and behaviors are represented using fuzzy cognitive maps to allow validation of the model using hypothetical combat scenarios. The model shows how specific emotions relate to behavioral actions and outcomes, providing a way to include emotions in decision making processes.
1) The document proposes using an embedded stereo camera and fusing optical flow and SIFT feature matching algorithms to estimate the localization of a micro aerial vehicle (MAV) in GPS-denied environments.
2) An Extended Kalman Filter is used to estimate the MAV's translational velocity and altitude from optical flow measurements separated into rotational and translational components using IMU data.
3) Initial experiments fusing optical flow and SIFT matching for altitude estimation showed promising results compared to ground truth, with room for improvement through onboard processing and successive frame SIFT matching for horizontal position estimation.
The document proposes using low-cost sensors for fast vision-aided inertial navigation. It investigates building a vision-aided inertial navigation system (VAINS) using low-cost inertial sensors to enable precise navigation on small drones independently of GPS. The system combines camera and inertial measurements using an iterated Kalman filter. Experiments show the main challenge is large propagation error from low-cost sensors. The proposed solutions of adding dynamic constraints, iterated Kalman filtering, and parallel GPU processing help overcome this problem.
This document discusses surround gate MOSFETs as an approach to reduce short channel effects in transistors. It begins with an overview of MOSFET operation and Moore's Law. It then discusses the motivation to find alternatives to planar transistors as scaling limits are approached. Short channel effects in bulk MOSFETs are introduced as a major barrier to scaling. The document reviews SOI and multi-gate transistor technologies, such as double gate, tri-gate, and gate-all-around designs, as ways to better control the channel and reduce short channel effects. A new dual-material surround gate structure is proposed and its potential to further suppress short channel effects through gate material engineering is explained. Two-dimensional modeling of the new structure
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help boost feelings of calmness, happiness and focus.
