There are three main types of muscle in the human body: striated muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle. Striated muscle is found in limbs and organs like the tongue and pharynx. It has long cylindrical fibers with blunt ends and uninucleated cells. Smooth muscle forms sheets in organs like the stomach and contracts slowly for long periods. Cardiac muscle is only found in the heart myocardium and has branched fibers that never fatigue.
