Tuesday ASSURE Method

!
A.

Analyze Learners

My students are a 3rd grade class of 8-9 year olds. There are 20 children, 11 of which are boys
and 9 of which are girls. 80% of my students are White, and 20% of my students are African
American. My students all live in an Appalachian area.

S.

State Objective:

My students will recognize characteristics of a fable, and will be able to tell what is and isn't a
fable. They will do this by watching Voki on my Wiki introduce “Personification”, observing Photo
Edit about Personification on my Wiki, Using Second-Life application to communicate with
animal avatars that are being personified, listening to and deconstructing fable podcast posted
on my Wiki, and competing to be the first to label a story I link on my Twitter as a #Fable or
#NotAFable. My students will accomplish this by the end of Tuesday with 100% accuracy.!
!
S.

Select Methods, Media, and Materials:

The methods that I have chosen, all link back to my students age, and ability level. My 3rd grade
students have grown up using technology, and I know that this is the way to grab their interest.
Therefor, I have chosen many different types of technology to interest my students.

!
The media that I will be using for this lesson, will be a Voki, a personification photo-edit, the
Second-Life application, a podcast, and my twitter.
The materials that I will need to teach this lesson, will be my Smart board, and my computer.

!
U.

Utilize Media and Materials:

Due to the fact that my media is mostly revolving around my computer, there are a number
possibilities that would effect to my plan. In case of a technology malfunction, I will have my
vokie recorded with an iPad, my photo-edit printed out, my podcast downloaded to an iPad, and
access to twitter and second-life on there as well.

Before my lesson, I will preview the materials, by making sure that my computer and
SmartBoard are up and running. I will prepare the materials, by preparing all of my links. I will
prepare the environment, by making sure that there arena distractions on the screen, or
throughout my classroom. I will prepare the learners by introducing Fables through the fable
video story, and I will provide a learning experience by making sure that my students are
constantly interested and keeping my lesson fun.

R.

Require Learner Participation:

In order to require learner participation, I have incorporated discussions throughout my
assignment, to keep them thinking and participating.

E.

Evaluate and Revise:
To evaluate if my students are able to recognize characteristics of a fable, and are able to tell
what is and isn't a fable, I am using the twitter game/competition as evaluation.
