The teacher will educate 5th grade students on the Holocaust. Students will watch a video about Anne Frank, view an informational poster about her life, complete a webquest, and view links on Pinterest about Anne Frank and other victims. The teacher will use class discussions, a webquest, journaling, and Pinterest to engage students and ensure they understand how those targeted during the Holocaust were treated. She will evaluate students' learning through class discussions, assessing the accuracy of their webquest work, observing their conversations, and determining the creativity and critical thinking in their journal entries.

1. Wednesday ASSURE
A-Analyze the Learner:
I will be teaching a 5th grade class in a public school of 22 students: 13 girls and 9
boys. 90% of the class is White, 8% is African American, and 2% is Latino. Overall,
these children come low/middle income families, and are between the ages of 10
and 11 years old.
S-State Objectives:
My fifth grade class will understand and be able to explain the treatment of those
who were targeted during the Holocaust after, watching a video, viewing an
informational poster, Taking part on a webquest, and viewing links pinned on
pinterest with 100% accuracy by the end of the day.
S-Selecting Methods, Materials, and Media:
In order to ensure that all types of learners reach their fullest potential, I will use a
variety of technology for this lesson including:
 Video: Students will watch a video about the life of Anne Frank.
 Poster: A poster will be displayed on the smart board for all students to be
able to see.
 Webquest: Students will go to the computer lab where they will complete a
webquest I created.
 Pinterest: We will access a board on pinterest all about Anne Frank and
other Holocaust victims.
 Journals: Students will be provided with small journals to create their mock
Anne Frank dairy.
 Computer Lab: I will reserve the computer lab so that students can have
access to the webquest.
U-Utilize Media and Materials:
Before the start of class, I will preview the video to make sure that it works properly
and all the audio is working correctly. I will then check to see if the poster is loaded
and working well on Glogster.com. Next I will access the Webquest I created to
ensure that all links are working properly for student access. Finally, I intend to

2. access my professional pinterest account on the smartboard so, as a class, we can
view the links I have pinned on victims of the Holocaust.
R-Require Learner Participation:
To introduce the sensitive topic of victims of the Holocaust without taking away
from the importance of the subject, I plan to use a mixture of methods to make the
information impacting but also appropriate for my class. At the start of the class I
will show a video about the entire life of Anne Frank. I chose Anne Frank as the main
individual to focus on because she was about the age of my students when she was
taken to a Holocaust camp, so she will be more relatable to my class. After the video,
I will prompt a class discussion with questions about the video like: What would you
do if you were in Anne’s situation? Following the discussion, we will, as a class, view
an informational poster that is a timeline of Anne Frank’s life. We will then proceed
to the computer lab where the class will take part in a webquest also about the life
of Anne Frank. Upon returning to the classroom, I will pass out journals to my
students where they will finish the webquest and create a mock Diary of Anne
Frank, where they imagine what it would be like to be in hiding and concentration
camps. Once students finish as much as possible in the allotted time, we will log on
to my professional pinterest account where we will view a few links I have pinned
regarding Anne Frank and other individuals. I will then engage the class in a
discussion about all of the information they were exposed to and their feelings.
E- Evaluate and Revise:
In order to properly evaluate the learning that has taken place I will do the following
things:
 Listen to the statements and opinions made during class discussions.
 Assess accuracy of work done on the Webquest task
 Walk around room and evaluate communication between students regarding
the lesson.
 Determine amount of creativity and critical thinking involved with journal
entries.
