1. Assure: Day 1
Analyze the learners. I will be teaching a unit on poetry to a sixth grade class. There are ten girls and
nine boys; 85% of them are white and 15% are African-American. Five of the students belong to the
gifted program, and three have ADD.
State objectives. My students will be able to identify characteristics of ballads and identify things like
alliteration, similie, metaphor, rhyme scheme, etc. within the poetry. They will do this by going over
vocabulary words, looking at a poster, doing a webquest, listening to songs, and doing group discussion
by the beginning of day 2 with 80% accuracy.
Select methods, media, and materials. For day one, we will look at the digital imaging and powerpoint
posters, we will have a group discussion, use a youtube video, robot, and a webquest.
Utilize Media & Material. I will lead the class discussion with presenting the vocabulary words to the
students. We will discuss the words. We will look at the poster from Digital Imaging and also the poster
from powerpoint to explain why poetry is important. We will listen to a song on youtube, and for
homework, the students will complete a webquest.
Require Learner Participation. Students are required to participate in group discussion about the
vocabulary words and about the youtube video we watch. They will be encouraged to ask questions
about the two posters. For homework, the students will complete a webquest regarding the vocabulary
words. Grade will depend on participation and completion/accuracy of the webquest.
Evaluate and Revise. I will test all media before class begins to make sure all technology is working
properly. If something does not work, I will find another video to show the class and talk about more
examples of the vocabulary words.
