Nature
• It is a binomial- choice tests, a test that have
only two (2) options.
• True-False questions can also be called
alternative response question
• An objective test presented in a form of
simple declarative statement, to which the
pupils respond indicating whether the
statement is true or false
• True/false questions present a statement,
and prompt the student to choose whether
the statement is truthful

Rule 2: Avoid using the word “always”, “never”,
“often” and other adverbs that tend to be either always
true or always false
Example
1. Christmas always falls on a Sunday
because it is a Sabbath day.

Rule 3: Avoid trick statements with some
minor misleading word or spelling anomaly,
misplaced phrases, etc.

1. The Principle of our school is Mr.
Albert P. Panadero.

Rule 4: Use negative statements sparingly and do not
use double negatives.
Example:
1. Bread and grain are not at the top of
the food pyramid.

Rule 5: Avoid long sentences as these
tends to be “true“.
Example
1. Test need to be valid , reliable and
useful, although , it would require a great
amount of time and effort to ensure that
tests posses these test characteristics.

Rule 6: Avoid using more than one idea in a True or
False question. Make your main point prominent

1. All spiders have exoskeletons and
only prey on insects.

Rule 7: Avoid quoting verbatim from reference
materials or textbooks
Rule 8: Avoid grossly disproportionate number of
either true or false statement or even patterns in
the occurrence of true and false statements.
Rule 9: Statements should always be clearly true or
false. Do not use items which involve controversial
material or rely on personal opinion.
Rule 10: Keep all statements approximately equal in
length.
Rule 11: Use simple grammatical structure.
Write TRUE if the statement is correct and
write FALSE if its wrong. Write your answer
in a ¼ sheet of paper.
1. Questions in a True/False Test should be
long so that it won’t be too easy for the
students.
2. In constructing a True/False test, avoid
using tricky misspelled words.
3. In constructing a true/False test, present
a similar number of true and false items.
4. Its okay to give hints in the question if you
are constructing a true/false test.
5. True/False test items are presented in
declarative statements.
6. You have to use complicated grammatical
structure in constructing a True/False test.
7. A binomial type of test consist only of two
questions.
8. True/False tests can either be a written or
oral assessment.
9. The words “always” and “never” should be
avoided in constructing a true or false
question.
10.Students have high chance of guessing the
answer, is an advantage of a True/False test.

Questions in a True/False Test should be long so that it won’t be too easy for the students. 2. In constructing a True/False test, avoid using tricky misspelled words. 3. In constructing a true/False test, present a similar number of true and false items. 4. Its okay to give hints in the question if you are constructing a true/false test.
