A variable air volume (VAV) system varies the supply air volume to meet changing cooling and heating loads in spaces. VAV systems can provide fan and refrigeration energy savings at part load compared to constant volume systems. A VAV system consists of a central air handler, VAV terminal units with thermostats in each space, and a return air plenum. Fan capacity in a VAV system is modulated in response to changing loads using methods like variable inlet vanes or variable fan speed. System static pressure is also controlled to optimize energy efficiency. Application considerations for VAV systems include providing adequate ventilation, freeze protection, humidity control, and building pressure control.
When developing data center energy-use estimations, engineers must account for all sources of energy use in the facility. Most energy consumption is obvious: computers, cooling plant and related equipment, lighting, and other miscellaneous electrical loads. Designing efficient and effective data centers is a top priority for consulting engineers. Cooling is a large portion of data center energy use, second only to the IT load. Although there are several options to help maximize HVAC efficiency and minimize energy consumption, data centers come in many shapes, sizes, and configurations. By developing a deep understanding of their client’s data center HVAC requirements, consulting engineers can help maintain the necessary availability level of mission critical applications while reducing energy consumption.

New chiller requirements go into effect on Jan. 1, 2015. ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2010: Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, Addendum ch details minimum performance requirements of heating and air conditioning equipment, including chillers, boilers, and packaged equipment, which continue to increase from the previous standard.
Equipment efficiencies are increased for heat pumps, packaged terminal air conditioners, single package vertical heat pumps, air conditioners, and evaporative condensers. Additional provisions address commercial refrigeration equipment, improved controls on heat rejection and boiler equipment, requirements for expanded use of energy recovery, small motor efficiencies, and fan power control and credits. Control revision requirements have been added to the standard such as direct digital controls in many applications. Finally, the 2013 edition completes the work that was begun on equipment efficiencies for chillers in the 2010 edition.
While Addendum ch may simplify these requirements for consulting engineers, chiller manufacturers are faced with equipment redesigns to comply by the deadline. Also, designers must pay special attention to which path of compliance will be used when testing chillers with or without variable frequency drives (VFDs).

POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT USING 5-LEVEL FLYING CAPACITOR MULTILEVEL CONVERTER...ijiert bestjournal
This paper present the use of five level flying cap acitor multilevel converters based dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) on power distributio n system to decrease the power- quality disturbances in distribution system, such a s voltage imbalances, harmonic voltages, and voltage sags. This DVR based five mul tilevel topology is suitable for medium-voltage applications and operated by the con trol scheme based on the so called repetitive control. The organization of this paper has been divided into three parts;the first one eliminates the modulation high-frequency harmonics using filter increase the transient response. The second one deal with the lo ad voltage;and the third is flying capacitors charged with balanced voltages . The MATLAB Simulation results are presented to illustrate and understand the performa nces of DVR in supporting load voltage.
Monitrol is a turn-key fluid control system including a globe style control valve, a variety of built in sensors for Flow, Pressure and Temperature, a High Precision Electric Actuator, along with controller and an easy to use Touch Screen interface. Monitrol can manage up to three variables (sensors), simultaneously with its control logic. Flexibility allows the control logic in Monitrol to be bypassed if that is desired. A Building Management System can still maintain all control and just make use of the sensor information if that is desired. A full range of I/O signals, feedback and modbus TCP communications are standard.

In this thesis we have proposed an HVAC system, which we have carefully selected and designed for
an IT company, based on the blueprint which was provided. Our approach was to calculate the Heat Load of the
whole floor which was dedicated for the IT company. We tried to closely observe every aspect of the floor or the
company which can have an impact on our heat load calculation. The floor level, windows, number of rooms,
partitions, the specific work has to be done in that compartment, the level of radiation, electronics, gadgets,
sunlight entering from the windows, the time and duration of the outside heat and many more important factors
we took into consideration. Based on our calculation we had to provide the best efficient system which can fulfill
the needs and can assure the better Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and human comfort. The system which we selected
for this particular IT company was VAV. Variable air volume (VAV) is a type of heating, ventilating, and airconditioning (HVAC) system, this VAV systems vary the airflow at a constant temperature.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

A simple VAV system is comprised of the following components:
n Central air handler
n Supply duct
n VAV terminal unit with thermostats and supply diffusers for each
independently controlled space
n Thermostat and unit controller for each terminal unit
n Return plenum or duct
There are various types of VAV terminal units, each one unique in its response
to changing space loads.

A simple building has two types of spaces: perimeter and interior. These two
space types require different types of VAV terminal units to satisfy their
requirements. It is important to realize that many VAV systems include a
combination of different types of terminal units based on individual space
requirements.
The VAV supply fan capacity is modulated in response to changing building
loads. Four methods of modulating fan capacity include: discharge dampers,
inlet vanes, fan speed control, and variable-pitch blade control.
Fan capacity is also controlled based on the static pressure in the system. There
are three common methods for sensing and controlling system static pressure:
fan outlet static-pressure control, supply duct static-pressure control, and
optimized static-pressure control.

Finally, when applying a VAV system to a building, there are several
considerations that must be addressed. They include: providing the correct
system-level ventilation, adequately protecting the coils from freezing,
