The document discusses advances in fan coil unit technology and controls presented by Mick Holland. It provides an overview of Ability Projects, a supplier of fan coil units, and their product ranges. It then covers EC motors, pressure independent control valves, and modern controller capabilities for fan coil units. The Matrix range is introduced as a fully packaged fan coil unit with smart pod fans, individual duct pressures, and no need for volume control dampers. Benefits of variable air volume control strategies using the Matrix are discussed.
Industrial process control often requires the measurement of liquid inventory volume or mass. If the material is contained within a tank of known shape and dimensions, the volume can be determined accurately by measuring the level of the liquid. Various means are used to determine the liquid level. One of the simplest is the downpipe sensor, sometimes referred to as a "bubbler". King-Gage is manufacturer of industrial downpipe liquid level measuring devices. The slides provide graphic depictions of how the systems function and provide an overview of several product configurations.

MADE IN BRITAIN
The SmartAct®-1 electric actuator was conceived, designed, prototyped, and is being manufactured in Britain.
TH E RIFT DRIVEN® ADVANTAGE
RIFT is a new British innovation; significantly enhancing the motor characteristics resulting in a powerful, light, and yet energy efficient motor driven product.
HUGELY ENERGY EFFICIENT
A RIFT DRIVEN® product contains the RIFT technology that will transform motor driven systems in the future. They show weight and energy savings of over 75% compared to traditional motor driven systems.
In actuator comparison tests the SACO valve actuator is in fact over 90% more energy efficient than the market leading electric actuators it was compared with.
PID CONTROL
Combining PID control with a 10 bit magnetic electronic position sensing system, the SACO S m a r t a c t - 1 actuator gives very accurate positioning and timing capabilities. Part Turn or Multi-Turn applications can be configured with accuracy up to at least ¼ of a degree on most valves.
OPTIONAL SOLENOID FUNCTION
A huge advantage of the SACO actuator is that it is capable of very fast cycle times. This allows it to be used as a direct acting solenoid. Fitted to a full bore ball valve it eliminates the difficulties traditional solenoids face when used with dirty media.
The REXA Xpac X2L Linear Actuators allow for modulating duty cycle and precise positioning independent of load variation. Hydraulic pressure is generated by an internal positive displacement gear pump driven by a stepper or servo motor with no limitations on starts, stops, or reverse cycles. This self-contained electro-hydraulic system locks the cylinder in place when
no movement is required. This minimizes wear-and-tear on moving components and eliminates unnecessary power consumption.

However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

8. Why the shift to EC/DC motor technology?
To use less energy.
Current building regulations require that that the specific fan power,
Watts per Litre per second, for a FCU does not exceed 0.6 W(L/S). Most
design specifications are looking for this to be 0.4 W(L/S) or less.
Energy costs have soared taking this further up the agenda.
To continue to give designers a choice.
AC motors are inefficient and use to much energy. Without the
introduction of energy efficient EC/DC technology designers would have
to look at using alternative systems.
9. What are the benefits of using EC/DC?
Use less energy
50% reduction compared to AC
Create Less Heat
Reduced heat pick up and, Therefore, overall
cooling requirement . Very useful in something that
provides cooling
Infinitely Variable

41. The first ETL listed FCU controller and strategy!
Being on the Energy Technology List (ETL) means a business
can take advantage of the Enhanced Capital Allowance
Scheme (ECA).
The ECA scheme allows businesses to claim 100% first year
capital allowance on investments on ETL listed energy saving
equipment.
If a business spent £1000 the standard capital allowance
would be approx. £41.50. The ECA would be worth a £230
one off tax relief in the first year!

4. Basic Energy Monitoring
Heath Check - Dirty Filter
Heath Check - Fan Failure
The unit monitors the
power consumption
for a certain air
volume on its curve
after activation each
day.
If a drop in power
consumption results
in an alarm
Standby Sentinel
When fans are not
required all non-essential
controls elements are
powered down
minimising consumption.
Basic Energy Monitoring
The controller monitors
the power consumption
of the unit and reports it
to an AV in watts
50. Control Strategy
Uses an energy saving Variable Air Volume
strategy.
With an increase in cooling demand the first
call is too raise the water flow rate.
At a given point the Airflow starts to increase
to provide more cooling.
If the supply air temperature from the FCU
approaches the minimum set value the air
volume will be raised to offset this.
All parameters are adjustable on a global or
individual basis.

57. What is set in the controller in the Factory?
Controls Strategy
A Matrix controls strategy is fully loaded and
setup for the given project.
Address
Each Controller/FCU is addressed for use by the
BMS.
Airflows
Air Volumes for each duct/diffuser are
programmed. This includes setback air volumes for
VAV operation.
Water Flow Rate
Design water flow rates are programmed and set
utilizing the PICC characterization.
Setpoint
Room design Temperature set point is
programmed.
58. What checks are done at the end of the line?
Fans
All fans are enabled and checked that they
run from signal provided by the controller.
Actuators
Valve actuators are fully functioned through the
Delta Controller.
Temperature Sensors
A routine is run to normalize the temperature
readings from the four sensors to remove potential
measurement errors.
Triacs
All the Triac outputs are checked for function,
including those that are not connected.
Comms Check
Via a laptop, communication with the controller is
established to ensure it functions correctly.
59. Matrix ³ - Environmental Commissioning
Verifies kW cooling or heating output
remotely.
Accomplished by running a third of units in
cooling and the rest in heating.
Results are logged in a routine that runs
from a Laptop.
Results are corrected for differences
between test conditions and design.
FCU are selected to deliver cooling and
heating. Matrix gives you the Ability to site
verify this.
60. Matrix Engineering Tool
Supplied on a NetBook to every Matrix
project.
Commissioning Tool to check operation,
adjust operational parameters on a single or,
via BMS, multiple Fan Coils.
Can connect to the FCU via wireless network
if appropriate access points are installed.
This software has been developed over many
years and is tailored to the Matrix range of
Fan Coil Units.
