This document provides an overview and skills audit for Jamie Brown's FMP project. It outlines Jamie's strengths in sticking to clear ideas and confidence performing in and directing music videos. Areas for improvement include concentration, Premiere Pro skills, and time management. The document also includes mood boards analyzing influences, and discussions of key influences like Cole Bennett, SSGKobe, Midwxst, DC The Don, and the PSA Official Music Video.
6. Skills Audit
• Strengths –
• When I have a clear ideas I try my best to stick to them
• I feel as if I have confidence in asking people to be apart of my music video/ I also have
confidence in being in it myself
• I have knowledge in knowing what different kind of music videos look like and how certain
aesthetics work for certain music.
• Weaknesses –
• I lack concentration and tend to drift off and I then lose my train of thought
• I am not overly confident in using premiere pro as I feel like I should know more techniques etc.
• My time management could be improved as in previous projects I spend too long on a certain are
in the project and then lose time and tend to fall behind
9. Mood Board Analysis
• With my Mood Board I wanted to make a collage of different images that are quite vibrant and have many
different colours involved in them, these images inspire me because I am wanting my music video to stand
out and for it to have a contrast in colours for example some shots will be darker with no vibrant colours and
then it will switch to a brighter shot to really create that contradiction between the different scenes. Some
of the images in my mood board are displaying different camera techniques that I would like to use in my
music video, therefore these images are inspiring to me because its something that I would like to
implement myself. There is also different images in the mood board that show different locations that I
would like to use for my video, after looking at these locations it has given me a better idea on where I can
film near me.
• One of the images with the paper has really inspired me because it is a creative way to display the title of
the song just by using a piece of paper and writing the name of the song on it, this is something that I am
looking to do myself as I think it a unique way to intro the video. There is also different effects that are being
used on some of the images such as the VHS tape filter, night vison and also filter to make the image look
brighter and really bring out the whites within the image. Some of the images include different camera
angles that I would be looking to use for my video, I wanted to use a higher camera angle because its
something that I have seen in many music videos and they seem to look appealing.
• The main image that I take inspiration from is from a music video and it is a camera trick to make it look like
there two of one person in the same place, this is something that I am definitely going to be using as I am
sure I know how to do this camera trick and it should be really effective in the final outcome
10. Key influences
(Cole Bennet)
• Cole Bennet is one of my main influences because of the way he
directs his music video but also how he edits them. Cole Bennet is
an American Business executive, videographer, music video
director/editor.
• The way that Cole edits and directs his videos are very unique and
is something that you don’t see on many music videos. Cole adds
lots of different special effects within the video to create a video
that looks some what abnormal. These special effects are
something that influences me because I feel like its something
quite Suttle however it creates a new type of feeling and vibe
when watching his music videos.
• A lot of Coles music videos tend to have a story behind them which
makes the viewers experience more enjoyable and they will feel
immersed because there is a story to be told. This influences me
because its something that it would like to include in my music
video because of how much more interesting it will make it.
• Cole bennet has made many music videos with the likes of
Eminem, Juice World, Justin Bieber. He has a specific editing and
shooting style that I find inspiring because I simply feel like it is
unique and is something that is not seen in many music videos.
11. Key Influences
(SSGKobe)
• Kobe is a young talented rapper at the age of 18. He is
a big inspiration to me because of how similar his age is
to mine, this allows me to think that I could make
music videos at a similar standard to him. I also enjoy
listening to his music which helps me understand what
his music videos may look like. Kobe has some slower
paced songs and some fast paced music, therefore
some of his music videos are shot a slower speed and
have longer lasting shots, while his faster music has
faster cut videos to compensate it. This is something
that inspires me because it makes me realise that
slower cut videos will not work as well with fast music.
12. Key Influences
(Midwxst)
• Midwxst is key influence in the making of my music
video as I heavily like listening to his music but I also
enjoy watching his music videos, this is because of how
they look and how they are edited, I find that his music
videos are quite simple in the way that they are shot but
the camera techniques that are used in his videos make
the video still enjoyable to watch.
• I have previously researched into this artist in my last
music video project and he still inspires me for this
project too, he is an influence because I listen to his
music a lot and I am aware of how his music videos are
shot. This then inspires me because his music videos are
very aesthetically pleasing however they are not high
budget and is something that I am willing to achieve.
13. Key Influences
(DC The Don)
• DC The Don is a rapper who currently lives in LA, California. DC is inspiring to me
because of how he performs in his music videos and also how different types of shots
create a new atmosphere to the video. For example some of the shots in his music
video are long shots and follow the performer around with one long take, this
combined with quick editing works really well. This is something that I am wanting to
implement into my music video because it’s a way to have a 10 second break from the
quick editing and then when the song starts to pick up again I will go back to having
quick editing and this is something that DC has in his music videos.
• For example in his music video ‘Campfire story’ there is a shot where he is sat beside
the camp fire lip syncing however this shot is longer than any other one in the video,
therefore in that moment the viewers attention is on the video because the pace of
the video has slowed down. There was one other moment in that music video where
the camera follows the performer around the house greeting people, however the
camera does not cut once. This is a technique that inspires me because I am wanting to
create something similar.
• Something that DC includes in his videos is intertextuality, there is many easter eggs
hidden in his videos that are relevant to TV shows e.g. Beavis and But head. These
easter eggs are seen whenever he says a lyric related to a TV show. This is a influence
because its something that I would like to include in my music video to involve a bit of
humour.
14. Key Influences
(PSA Official Music Video)
• This music video is one of my biggest inspirations
because of how the video is edited and recorded,
for example there is many camera
techniques/tricks that I have learned from this
music video that I would like to try and use
myself. One of the camera tricks I would like to
use in my own would be where the performer
would in the main focus of the image however
there will be town of the same person in the
same shot to make it look like the same person.
This is something that has inspired me because I
feel as if its quite easy yet effective, because it
will grab the viewers attention as there is
something abnormal in the music video at makes
the music video slightly unique.
