2. Photograph
• Ed Sheeran
• Acoustic
• Narrative
• Reminiscing the past- follows the theme of the song with a personal touch from artist
• Personal touch makes a more intimate experience with the audience
• This is something I would like to incorporate in my music video because the home video
montage effect creates a feeling of intimacy between the audience and producer. I feel
this would be ideal as I want my video to create an emotional response from the
viewers. Also, as an amateur producer it would be easier to make this appear authentic.
3. Trap Queen
• Fetty Wap
• Grime/hip hop
• Symbolic/narrative
• Promoting genre and artist in a glorified manner
• Incorporates certain lines from the song and transforms them into a visual, i.e.
cooking pies.
• I think that the way in which lyrics are visually represented is something I want
to include in my music video because this can increase the hype created by
certain lines, particularly in the chorus.
4. Stan
• Eminiem
• Rap
• Narrative
• Tackles issue of mental health
• Visually depicts story told through lyrics
• I would like to explore the possibility of similarly having a strong, clear narrative
continued through the entire video. This video is pretty much a short film and this is
something I feel could be effective if the video in the story runs parallel with the story
in the song.
5. Now You’re Gone
• Basshunter
• Dance
• Narrrative
• To enhance the entertainment with the song
• Although the song is focused on music instead of lyrics and the lyrics don’t have
much substance, the music video tells the story behind the song. This gives the
song more substance and, therefore, the audience feel an emotional response and
connection to the artist. I want to create a similar emotional response for my
audience by adding substance to the song
• The actors are ‘good looking’ people; this is a commonly used technique in the
media industry to glamorise the video and make it more aesthetically pleasing.
6. Pompeii
• Bastille
• Pop/rock
• Narrative/concept
• Allows the audience to interpret it how they want
• A story is told but is deliberately unclear, leaving it open for interpretation.
This idea of audiences making personal interpretations is something I
would like to explore as I feel it would make my video more intriguing and
memorable.

it exciting.

• Performance/narrative
• Conveys a clear message
• The blend of performance and narrative is very clever and well executed.

• Simple but effective
20. Viva La Vida

famous and so they’re easily recognisable.

• Obscure images add to unnatural tone of song
30. American Boy
