Mise-En-Scene of my synthpop music video.

1. Music Video Mise-En-Scene
SUBTITLE

2. Costume
• I am planning on having quite generic costumes for my two actors. I want this kind of
clothing as it adheres to the type of costumes that are worn in most other synthpop music
videos.
• I feel like it creates more of a normality in the video as if the music is more important than
the person performing it.
• I also want to use generic clothing as I want to create a feeling that the characters that
have the projected faces represent normal people with normal problems as the face
symbolises putting a face on that isn’t true to themselves.
• The type of generic clothing I want for my male actor is jeans, plain t-shirt and a jacket as I
will be mostly filming on a colder day to create a harsher/colder tone within the lighting.
The female actor will wear the same kind of clothing for the same reason.
• I want to create this harsh/cold feeling to represent how the characters are feeling which
gives reason as to why they have these faces.
• I may also have the male actor wear a beanie to add to the cold feeling as well as making it
easier to get his hair out of the way of the tracking markers.

3. Lighting
• I want quite harsh and cold lighting in my music video which I will achieve by filming on
a relatively cold day that is quite overcast to create a soft lighting on the actors.
• I also still want some contrast so I am planning on using a bounce board to add some
more light to one side of the actors to avoid having the lighting be totally soft and
neutral as it wouldn’t be very appealing to look at as we are used to seeing some
contrast. I want to avoid having the viewer be distracted so they can concentrate on
what I'm trying to convey in the music video.
• When I am editing my music video I will colour grade the video to make the lighting a
little more harsh and cold as I cannot get the exact lighting I want when filming. I also
want to make the lighting slightly blue to again give that cold feeling as well as a slightly
sci-fi tone which will work well with the projected face that is a major part of the video.

4. Actors/Action
• The main actor of the man with the blurry face will be walking towards
the camera throughout the music video. I want this as it makes it easier
to track the performance of the projected face. I also want the
performance of the song with the face to seem personal as if it directed
towards the viewer. I want to create the feeling that he is talking about
what he is going through which is represented by the blurred face
covering his actual face as well as the lyrics of the song itself. This will
make the music video a little more unique as most music videos are quite
passive in terms of the audience.
• You wont be able to see the faces of the actors so the way they act in
terms of facial expressions aren’t important as long as it doesn’t disrupt
the tracking marks.

5. Make Up/Hair
• I don't want my actors to wear make up as it isn’t needed as
their faces will be covered through out the video and would
not add anything.
• I may have them wear some generic make up at the end of
the video when their faces are uncovered to bring some
more colour to their faces in order to represent how they feel
now that they can uncover both faces and show their true
selves.
• I want to let both of the actors to do what they would
normally do with their hair as I think this would create the
most genuine representation of normal people. I want the
actors to project the tone of normality to have the viewers
understand that people wearing false faces represents how
people don’t show their true identity and don’t tend to let
their barriers down.

6. Props
• I am not going to be using props in my music video.
• I have chosen to not have any props as I want the music video to be
relatively simple. I also don’t want someone watching the video to be
distracted away from the meaning of the song and video.
• It is common in synthpop music videos to not have any props and to have
the video be quite simple as they usually only show the actor/artist and
sometimes the instruments they play.
• I feel like props are not important to what I want to achieve in my music
video so should not be a part of it.

7. Setting
• I want the setting of my music video to also be relatively generic. I am
going to film in local country side areas but I will make sure I still vary the
types of places I film in order to not make the setting become too dull as
it would make it harder to have someone keep their attention on the
video. I have chosen this area as I want to put across the idea that the
characters in the music video are very ordinary people as if it could be
anyone who was the character in the video.
• Again the common atmosphere I am trying to create contrasts the
projected face which just emphasizes it more which is very important as
it holds the meaning behind the video and allows the song and the video
to link.
