Product 1
• I choose Lady GaGa’s video “Born This Way” because the camera had used movement and lots of
zooming. I would like my video to be similar to her video because I want my camera to have
movement and zooming.
• Also I do know how to use movement and zooming in the camera because I have created my short
films in the past, which means I know how to use it. But, I need more training with professional
zooming because when I zoomed in before the focus was blurry. I will focus when I am zooming in
and focus at the same time to make the focus more clear.
• I collected the images and the styles of movements by the camera. This will help me to know more
how to use the movements.
• The movements of the camera are important because I would like my video to be interesting and
amazing. For example: When I’ll use “Pan” which means the camera follows the actor who will pass
the camera or I’ll use “Tilt” when the actor will fall down to the floor and the camera will follow
the actor down to make my audience feel like they follow the actor.
• I will move the camera because I want the audience to be interested. I want my video have lots of
movement because I want my video be fun and able to make my audience feel like they want to
watch my video.
• If I don’t use any movements, it means my video can be boring. Also, this can make my audience
feel less enthusiastic and might not like to watch my video.
Product 2
• I choose Hayley Kiyoko’s video “Girls like Girls” because the song about lesbian
relationships. I chose it because the screen looks beautiful, pure and bright.
• I want my video to be similar to her video because I would like my video screen bright
and clear to make it look professional .
• I will use the studio lighting in my film. To be honest, I have never used the lighting
before but I need to get experience with the lighting, and get to know how to use it.
• The studio lights are important because I want to my screen a look clear. If I don’t use
the studio lights then my screen will look dark and messy. Also if my video screen does
not look professional then I need to use more lights to make it look better.
• The studio lights will be in lots of different places of the filming because the lights
always have to be behind the camera or beside the camera. When the camera moves to
different places and angles then the lights will follow the camera.
• I need to be careful with the studio lights because the lights have lots of wires and I
don’t want anyone tripping over it and getting hurt. Also if someone bumps into the
light then light might fall down and break.
Product 3
• I choose Sia’s video “The Greatest” because they have the group performance. They have
amazing facial expressions and their body language is over the top.
• I want to my video to be similar to her video because I would like to my actors to use lots of
facial expressions and their body language to be over the top. That is important for the Deaf
because the Deaf need to watch my video with facial expressions to help to make it more
understandable.
• I am sure some Deaf actors can be very over the top because Deaf people naturally use great
facial expressions and body language, that is Deaf culture.
• I want my actors have fantastic over the top expressions like happy, sad, laugh, cry, and
others too. I would like my video to have amazing facial expressions to make my audience
exclaim and be attracted to watching my video. If my actors don’t have any facial expressions
then it might make the audience feel uncomfortable.
• If some of the actors struggle at the beginning of the film then I will help them to warm up
and use ice-breakers because the facial expressions are important in my video and the facial
expressions are the most important thing and shows Deaf awareness.
• If some of my hearing class mate are in the film then I will help to them to use facial
expressions because I know some hearing people don’t use facial expressions and feel shy
about using them.
Conventions
• My video will be appropriate for the LGBT audience because my video will show our support to
LGBT community.
• I don’t want to use a depressive song because most of the other LGBT songs had depressive
themes. Others songs to show the parents throwing the children out of the house, the bullies
fighting them, some people rejecting them and more. That can make the audience feel low
confidence and worried.
• I disagree with others songs because all the LGBTs songs are depressive Also only a few the
songs have a bit of comedy, but not the full the video because they still show depression. I have
decided to create my video is about empowering the LGBT community to make them feel
strong, and that they are not alone, I also will try and add some comedy.
• I will create my video to be uplifting because I want to my audience feel more confident and
comfortable. That is important because I don’t want the LGBT community to suffer mental
heath and depression. My video will help my audience feel free from mental health and
depression. I am sure my video will be first time for uplifting and comedy LGBT music video.
• My video can be watched by an audience who is under 15, now lots of the LGBT community are
under 15 and I would like to them to be able to watch my video. My video won’t have any
swearing or anything rude because I don’t like to make to my audience who haven’t come out
yet feel awkward and uncomfortable. Also this might not be appropriate for a younger
audience. I need to make sure my video is suitable with my audience age.
• My video is appropriate for me because I am an open minded person and I’m always a funny
person. I would like to encourage my audience to able to come out after they have watched my
video.
• Also, I want to show my support to my audience, my actors will wear drag queen clothes
because drag belongs to LGBTs and it can make the my audience feel not alone. The actors will
wear the drag queen clothes so it links to the comedy I want to include.
Genre Chacteristics
• My video will be Pop because I researched Lady GaGa’s video and Sia’s video and
both of them have same Pop genre. I would like my video to be similar to their
videos because their songs link to my idea for LGBT music video.
• I looked at genre characteristics of Pop because I know that pop is most popular to
young people, and attracts them to the music video. So, I will create my video, that
will be pop because my audience will mostly be young LGBTs.
• I chose Pop because I want to my video have bright lighting and colourful costumes
because I want the colourful costume to show how proud the LGBT are and their
logo is rainbows. That is important to me because I want to show my audience, so
they know the rainbows means LGBT.
• My video will also have some romance because I want to make my young audience
feel in love.
• I want to my video have good looking actors, but even though I don’t need it
because I want to show my audience that it doesn’t matter if you are good or bad
looking and remind them that the personality is important to love, and everyone is
beatiful.
• I don’t need close up because my video will have full BSL (British Sign Language)
and if I use close up then my audience can’t see the signs. I prefer to use other
shots like long and medium shots, so it is more easy to see the signs.
Chosen approach/justification
• I chose Lady GaGa’s music video “Born This Way” because her video shows strong support and stand
up for the LGBT community, and shows that she rejects the people who are not accepting. That video
is similar to my idea of video because my idea includes showing my support and I want to make them
feel not alone.
• I chose Sia’s music video “The Greatest” because her video is similar to my idea, my actors need to
act confident and use lots of body language. I don’t like my actors to be shy and nervous in the film,
as this will ruin my idea.
• I chose camera because of course, for recording and for shooting the actors who will be singing. Also,
I want to my camera have styles of movement because I don’t like the camera to stay still because it
can make my audience feel bored, and myself too. I need some movement of camera to make my
video look amazing and just like a professional music video.
• I chose studio lights because I want my screen look more bright and clear, and so my audience can
see the screen properly. I don’t like without lights because my screen will look dark, not professional
and messy. I need studio lights because I have never used them before and I want to learn how to use
it to make my video look a professional.
• I chose professional performance. I need my actors to use fantastic facial expressions because the
facial expressions are important to myself and my Deaf audience because all the Deaf people always
need to facial expressions to make them understand. It is part of our culture. Also, not just for the
Deaf, I want my video characters to look professional and like a professional performance because
professional performance can make my audience, including hearing people, excited and attracted to
my video and the story in my video.
• I chose a green screen effect because I will take the photo of the actors who will on be in the
background with some singing. I will edit to remove the green screen then turn to on the background
of music video. I need it because part of song talk about “No matter you’re black, white, Asian, gay,
lesbian, transgendered and etc.” and the actors will appearance for who they are.
Experiment 1 - Process
• This was my first experiment with studio lights.
• I had four studio lights. Two studio lights on the
background and other two studio lights on a
person to make everything look clear.
• I wanted the studio lights t be more brighter
and so I used about level 80 of brightness to
make my video look more better and bright.
• I have two background screens. One black and
one white screen because I want to see the two
different backgrounds and compare how they
look on the screen.
• First, I used the white screen with four studio
lights because the white screen was easy to
catch a black shadow. I put two lights on the
background and other two light on a person to
make sure there was no shadow.
• Second, I used the black screen and it only had
one light because the black screen must use
the shadow, like a person’s face half of the face
bright (on the left side of face) and a shadow
on the right side of the face.
Reflection
• I am happy with my first experiment with the studio lights because I felt it went
very well. I had fun with the studio lights and I had no accidents with the studio
lights.
• I tried to place of studio lights like a spotlight on the person and the background to
make it look clear and professional.
• I noticed in my edit, on the video with the white background, the person isn’t as
bright as I want. The person look little bit dark which means I need one more light
aimed at the front of the body to look better.
• I wanted to use long shot but I couldn’t use it because when I tried to use a long
shot, you can see the screen and can spot the studio light and see things outside of
the white screen. I need the white screen to be a little bit bigger.
• I want a white screen on the floor too because I wanted to film high angle shot to
see the person sat on the floor and the floor has no white screen, it’s carpet. That
is not professional enough and I need to white screen on the floor to look better.
• On the black screen it looked much better because that scene look professional like
depression in the dark. I used words that link with depression words like
“unconfident”, “bullied” and “reject”.
Experiment 2 - Process
• After the filming, I started editing some of
the scenes.
• I copied and paste the music sounds from
YouTube called “Born This Way” by Lady
GaGa.
• Lady GaGa’s videois similar to my idea and I
want to try experiment when making my
video with her song.
• I learned how to edit the music sounds and
link them to video because I like to follow the
rhythm.
• I picked two videos each video have happy
and sad scenes. White shows happy and
black shows sad.
• I use the “Razor” for cutting the scene, and
made separate two scenes.
• I put both the black and white videos in
process like white, black, white, black then
white onward to show what is opposite.
• I finished the scenes and I tried to link thm
with music sounds on my video. I know it’s
not professional but I want to try it.
Reflection
• I am happy with my experiment editing because this is new to me, it’s the first time I
needed to edit the music sounds with video.
• I have already experimented with editing because two years ago, I had created two short
films which means I have crating and editing twice, so I still know how to use edit.
• I used medium speed editing because I have filmed a person singing with BSL, so I need
to make sure you can see BSL clearly with nothing missing or anything looking messy. BSL
is important for the Deaf people in my audience.
• I have two videos for happy and sad because I want to see opposites from happy to sad. I
want to show two emotions, and have LGBT communities feelings. Some of them feel
happy and confident and others can feel sad.
• I need to edit two videos to same as length time because some of them had long scenes
and other had short scenes. I want all my scenes in order and to link with the time.
• I still struggle with music sounds because I am Deaf, obviously, and I wasn’t sure which is
the rhythm to link to some of the scenes like loud or quiet or some of the lyrics.
• All the scenes are the same, mid shot, because they were filmed in the small room. I
want to use some different shots like full shots, and long shots. It’s a little bit difficult
because I choose long shot too, but when I tried this you could see my screen and you
could see the studio lights and outside of white screen.

For example: When I’ll use “Pan” which means the camera follows the actor who will pass the camera or I’ll use “Tilt” when the actor will fall down to the floor and the camera will follow the actor down to make my audience feel like they follow the actor. • I will move the camera because I want the audience to be interested. I want my video have lots of movement because I want my video be fun and able to make my audience feel like they want to watch my video. • If I don’t use any movements, it means my video can be boring. Also, this can make my audience feel less enthusiastic and might not like to watch my video.
  • 3. Product 2 • I choose Hayley Kiyoko’s video “Girls like Girls” because the song about lesbian relationships. I chose it because the screen looks beautiful, pure and bright. • I want my video to be similar to her video because I would like my video screen bright and clear to make it look professional . • I will use the studio lighting in my film. To be honest, I have never used the lighting before but I need to get experience with the lighting, and get to know how to use it. • The studio lights are important because I want to my screen a look clear. If I don’t use the studio lights then my screen will look dark and messy. Also if my video screen does not look professional then I need to use more lights to make it look better. • The studio lights will be in lots of different places of the filming because the lights always have to be behind the camera or beside the camera. When the camera moves to different places and angles then the lights will follow the camera. • I need to be careful with the studio lights because the lights have lots of wires and I don’t want anyone tripping over it and getting hurt. Also if someone bumps into the light then light might fall down and break.
  • 4. Product 3 • I choose Sia’s video “The Greatest” because they have the group performance. They have amazing facial expressions and their body language is over the top. • I want to my video to be similar to her video because I would like to my actors to use lots of facial expressions and their body language to be over the top. That is important for the Deaf because the Deaf need to watch my video with facial expressions to help to make it more understandable. • I am sure some Deaf actors can be very over the top because Deaf people naturally use great facial expressions and body language, that is Deaf culture. • I want my actors have fantastic over the top expressions like happy, sad, laugh, cry, and others too. I would like my video to have amazing facial expressions to make my audience exclaim and be attracted to watching my video. If my actors don’t have any facial expressions then it might make the audience feel uncomfortable. • If some of the actors struggle at the beginning of the film then I will help them to warm up and use ice-breakers because the facial expressions are important in my video and the facial expressions are the most important thing and shows Deaf awareness. • If some of my hearing class mate are in the film then I will help to them to use facial expressions because I know some hearing people don’t use facial expressions and feel shy about using them.
  • 5. Conventions • My video will be appropriate for the LGBT audience because my video will show our support to LGBT community. • I don’t want to use a depressive song because most of the other LGBT songs had depressive themes. Others songs to show the parents throwing the children out of the house, the bullies fighting them, some people rejecting them and more. That can make the audience feel low confidence and worried. • I disagree with others songs because all the LGBTs songs are depressive Also only a few the songs have a bit of comedy, but not the full the video because they still show depression. I have decided to create my video is about empowering the LGBT community to make them feel strong, and that they are not alone, I also will try and add some comedy. • I will create my video to be uplifting because I want to my audience feel more confident and comfortable. That is important because I don’t want the LGBT community to suffer mental heath and depression. My video will help my audience feel free from mental health and depression. I am sure my video will be first time for uplifting and comedy LGBT music video. • My video can be watched by an audience who is under 15, now lots of the LGBT community are under 15 and I would like to them to be able to watch my video. My video won’t have any swearing or anything rude because I don’t like to make to my audience who haven’t come out yet feel awkward and uncomfortable. Also this might not be appropriate for a younger audience. I need to make sure my video is suitable with my audience age. • My video is appropriate for me because I am an open minded person and I’m always a funny person. I would like to encourage my audience to able to come out after they have watched my video. • Also, I want to show my support to my audience, my actors will wear drag queen clothes because drag belongs to LGBTs and it can make the my audience feel not alone. The actors will wear the drag queen clothes so it links to the comedy I want to include.
  • 6. Genre Chacteristics • My video will be Pop because I researched Lady GaGa’s video and Sia’s video and both of them have same Pop genre. I would like my video to be similar to their videos because their songs link to my idea for LGBT music video. • I looked at genre characteristics of Pop because I know that pop is most popular to young people, and attracts them to the music video. So, I will create my video, that will be pop because my audience will mostly be young LGBTs. • I chose Pop because I want to my video have bright lighting and colourful costumes because I want the colourful costume to show how proud the LGBT are and their logo is rainbows. That is important to me because I want to show my audience, so they know the rainbows means LGBT. • My video will also have some romance because I want to make my young audience feel in love. • I want to my video have good looking actors, but even though I don’t need it because I want to show my audience that it doesn’t matter if you are good or bad looking and remind them that the personality is important to love, and everyone is beatiful. • I don’t need close up because my video will have full BSL (British Sign Language) and if I use close up then my audience can’t see the signs. I prefer to use other shots like long and medium shots, so it is more easy to see the signs.
  • 7. Chosen approach/justification • I chose Lady GaGa’s music video “Born This Way” because her video shows strong support and stand up for the LGBT community, and shows that she rejects the people who are not accepting. That video is similar to my idea of video because my idea includes showing my support and I want to make them feel not alone. • I chose Sia’s music video “The Greatest” because her video is similar to my idea, my actors need to act confident and use lots of body language. I don’t like my actors to be shy and nervous in the film, as this will ruin my idea. • I chose camera because of course, for recording and for shooting the actors who will be singing. Also, I want to my camera have styles of movement because I don’t like the camera to stay still because it can make my audience feel bored, and myself too. I need some movement of camera to make my video look amazing and just like a professional music video. • I chose studio lights because I want my screen look more bright and clear, and so my audience can see the screen properly. I don’t like without lights because my screen will look dark, not professional and messy. I need studio lights because I have never used them before and I want to learn how to use it to make my video look a professional. • I chose professional performance. I need my actors to use fantastic facial expressions because the facial expressions are important to myself and my Deaf audience because all the Deaf people always need to facial expressions to make them understand. It is part of our culture. Also, not just for the Deaf, I want my video characters to look professional and like a professional performance because professional performance can make my audience, including hearing people, excited and attracted to my video and the story in my video. • I chose a green screen effect because I will take the photo of the actors who will on be in the background with some singing. I will edit to remove the green screen then turn to on the background of music video. I need it because part of song talk about “No matter you’re black, white, Asian, gay, lesbian, transgendered and etc.” and the actors will appearance for who they are.
  • 8. Experiment 1 - Process • This was my first experiment with studio lights. • I had four studio lights. Two studio lights on the background and other two studio lights on a person to make everything look clear. • I wanted the studio lights t be more brighter and so I used about level 80 of brightness to make my video look more better and bright. • I have two background screens. One black and one white screen because I want to see the two different backgrounds and compare how they look on the screen. • First, I used the white screen with four studio lights because the white screen was easy to catch a black shadow. I put two lights on the background and other two light on a person to make sure there was no shadow. • Second, I used the black screen and it only had one light because the black screen must use the shadow, like a person’s face half of the face bright (on the left side of face) and a shadow on the right side of the face.
  • 9. Reflection • I am happy with my first experiment with the studio lights because I felt it went very well. I had fun with the studio lights and I had no accidents with the studio lights. • I tried to place of studio lights like a spotlight on the person and the background to make it look clear and professional. • I noticed in my edit, on the video with the white background, the person isn’t as bright as I want. The person look little bit dark which means I need one more light aimed at the front of the body to look better. • I wanted to use long shot but I couldn’t use it because when I tried to use a long shot, you can see the screen and can spot the studio light and see things outside of the white screen. I need the white screen to be a little bit bigger. • I want a white screen on the floor too because I wanted to film high angle shot to see the person sat on the floor and the floor has no white screen, it’s carpet. That is not professional enough and I need to white screen on the floor to look better. • On the black screen it looked much better because that scene look professional like depression in the dark. I used words that link with depression words like “unconfident”, “bullied” and “reject”.
  • 10. Experiment 2 - Process • After the filming, I started editing some of the scenes. • I copied and paste the music sounds from YouTube called “Born This Way” by Lady GaGa. • Lady GaGa’s videois similar to my idea and I want to try experiment when making my video with her song. • I learned how to edit the music sounds and link them to video because I like to follow the rhythm. • I picked two videos each video have happy and sad scenes. White shows happy and black shows sad. • I use the “Razor” for cutting the scene, and made separate two scenes. • I put both the black and white videos in process like white, black, white, black then white onward to show what is opposite. • I finished the scenes and I tried to link thm with music sounds on my video. I know it’s not professional but I want to try it.
  • 11. Reflection • I am happy with my experiment editing because this is new to me, it’s the first time I needed to edit the music sounds with video. • I have already experimented with editing because two years ago, I had created two short films which means I have crating and editing twice, so I still know how to use edit. • I used medium speed editing because I have filmed a person singing with BSL, so I need to make sure you can see BSL clearly with nothing missing or anything looking messy. BSL is important for the Deaf people in my audience. • I have two videos for happy and sad because I want to see opposites from happy to sad. I want to show two emotions, and have LGBT communities feelings. Some of them feel happy and confident and others can feel sad. • I need to edit two videos to same as length time because some of them had long scenes and other had short scenes. I want all my scenes in order and to link with the time. • I still struggle with music sounds because I am Deaf, obviously, and I wasn’t sure which is the rhythm to link to some of the scenes like loud or quiet or some of the lyrics. • All the scenes are the same, mid shot, because they were filmed in the small room. I want to use some different shots like full shots, and long shots. It’s a little bit difficult because I choose long shot too, but when I tried this you could see my screen and you could see the studio lights and outside of white screen.
