Christianity In The Early Middle Ages Essay
Christianity in Europe during the Medieval Period encountered many hindrances such as
corruption, sex, the Avignon Captivity, and the Great Schism. However, even though the church
encountered many controversies which eventually undermined the foundation of the church,
monastic revival reformed the church and ultimately restored the original beliefs.
Corruption was present in many forms within the church during the medieval period. Many clergy
members were landowners in late medieval Christianity and if they were not, the church would
count on the nobles to share their profits from their peasants work. (Christian History, 2015) It
was also familiar for members of clergy to buy their positions in order to obtain power and wealth.
Priests were also known for visiting taverns, gambling, and having orgies with quarrels and
blasphemy. (Arnold, 1999)
From the Early Middle Ages, through the reign of Charlemagne, the church accentuated the
importance of clerical celibacy, however by Carolingian times, it became apparent that clerical
celibacy would be impossible to enforce. The church disclosed that not all ... Show more content on

(Spielvogel, 285) The members of these orders were acknowledged for adopting lives of
complete poverty in retaliation to the growing wealth of the High Middle Ages. The
Franciscans lived among the people and preached repentance while aiding the poor. (Spielvogel,

across Europe. The Dominicans, established by Dominic de Guzman, who believed that a
religious order of men who lived lives of poverty but were able to preach effectively would be able
to attack heresy, as a result, many of the Dominicans were

Drive by Download Attack Vector
For the drive by download attack vector, we create a system called the security Posture,
Integration, and Correlation Engine (SPICE). SPICE takes a feed of real time junk mail, sends a

every link within the e mail, detects an infection on the virtual system, and logs all the information

Comparing Creation Myths of Ancient Egypt and The...
Comparing Creation Myths of Ancient Egypt and The Christian Bible
Creation in Ancient Egyptian religion can be much different than the creation account taken from
The Bible. Genesis has a set description of The Beginning while there are several different versions
and variations in Egyptian mythology. The versions range from a one god myth (Ptah; see picture)
to the more common creator out of Nun, which in itself has several derivations.
The Ogdoad is a grouping of eight gods that existed before the creator and formed him. This version
is taken from Middle Egypt at Hermopolis. The eight gods consisted of Amun, Huh, Kuk, and Nun
and their counterparts (i.e. Nun and Naunet). They came together to create an egg that contains the

Creation began by a bodily function of the creator god. Either through ejaculation, sneezing, or
spitting the creator began to produce others (Redford). The creator god had other gods come into
being and they in turn began to create until the ancient Egyptians had a sufficient explanation for
there being here.
The most popular creation myth, in present day is the one god myth. It existed yet, had a brief
life and it was in the minority. Here Ptah was the closest thing to monotheism that the ancients had.
This is a popular theme in Memphite theology, but it was present in parts of Egypt. Ptah
supposedly had all that is manifest in thought and then created them with his Word (Baines, 1991).
It is also said that the one god is and the other god names are used to personify an extension of the
one god (Ancient Egyptian Religion pg. 2 and 3). Ptah creates the Ennead with thought and word.
This monotheism was not very widespread and it did not last long.
In Genesis, the first book of The Bible the Christian and Jewish creation story is told. God spoke
and his Word was done. He made the heavens and the earth. He made light and drove away the
dark. On the earth he created the waters and lands and man and beast.
The last two accounts are similar in many ways. Ptah can be identified with God even though what
they did to create was not exactly similar. Ptah created the Ennead while God

Mattel Crisis Essay
Mattel, Inc. saw many recalls between 1997 and 2007. Seventeen recalls in ten years. The
company recalled twelve products for six different issues between their main company, Mattel, and
their extended brand, Fisher Price. From June to September of 2007, Mattel s CEO, Robert Eckert
supervised two health crises involving many popular toys within the #1 toycompany in the world.
The lead paint crisis was the first to surface, and small magnetic pieces were the second. From an
European vendor, Matteldiscovered traces of lead in the paint on toys such as the Dora the Explorer
doll and its accessories, the Go Diego Go doll and its accessories, several Sesame Street characters
toys and accessories, GeoTrax Engine toys, It s a Big Big World toys and several Fisher Price toys.
This came as a shock to Mattel, since the companies were required to use only certified suppliers

Mattel s shareholders have profits at stake because with such a scandalous issue at that time of
the year, which is every toy company s busiest time of year, the profits go down due to the doubt
in consumer s minds about the safety of the products, so their value of stock goes down or up
depending on the reaction of the consumers. The employees have their safety at stake in the form
of job security. If Mattel s profits go down, there may be layoffs and Chinese employees may be
without jobs if they work for the companies that produced the toys with lead paint. Finally, the
competitor s stakes would be profits and reputation. Their profits may change especially with the
holiday season approaching along with this crisis with the industry s leader. Their reputation would
change, not because of anything they are doing, but because Mattel s reputation may change, the
light would shine a nicer light on the companies who did not sell toys with lead paint on

Part1/2 Design has factored a great amount in my life. It has told me what to choose and what
not to choose in clothing, grocery, and book stores. Design influences me in these places
because it helps me to be aware of what I m buying and what is physically appealing to me as a
consumer. One time I was at the grocery store with my mother, and I bought 20oz Fuji water
bottles for the both of us. While I was in line, waiting to pay for the water bottles, I started to think
of why the company of Fuji water shaped their bottles rectangular. Was it easier to hold? Was it just
a slimmer and satisfying design? Was it different tasting water? What made me buy this bottle
compared to other water bottles such as Aquamarine or the Great Value brand? These were the
questions that running through my head. All these questions are what company s designers think

Ebola was named for a small river near Maridi, Sudan. Since Ebola first appeared in 1967 there
have been over 100 cases of Ebola with more than 50% of the patients dying within days of their
acute symptoms. Ebola is classified as a biosafety level four agent because of its extreme
pathogenicity and the lack of a vaccine or antiviral drug. Ebolavirus (Zaire ebolavirus); Sudan virus

countries starting in Guinea then spreading across land borders to Sierra Leone and Liberia,
Nigeria, USA, Senegal and Mali. Ebola has been presented for more than 35 years; however, the
largest outbreak began in West Africa in March 2014. Ebola was previously reported in: Nigeria,
Senegal, Spain, United States, Mali, and United Kingdom. However, there are no current cases
of Ebola in these countries. There were four people who were diagnosed with Ebola in the
United States. The two brought ebola into the country while the other two contracted the disease
after caring for an Ebola patient in the United States. One man however died from the disease
and the other three recovered and are now free of Ebola. Most of these cases were due to people

Suffering In The Poems Of Wilfred Owen And Jane Weir
Both poems display suffering in similar ways; Both poems demonstrate the effects of war. Wilfred
Owen and Jane Weir are angry and frustrated about what has happened during and after the war.
Questions are a most common feature of both poems, they are designed to make the reader think.
Both writers make use of literary techniques to draw attention to especially important parts of the
poems. Even though they displayed suffering in similar ways they still used their own ideas and
approaches; Owen writes from the pointof view of someone who was involved in the war. Weir
writes about mainly one soldier affected by the war.
Owen had joined the army in 1915 yet was hospitalized in May 1917 experiencing shell shock.
Owen, in the long run, came back to the war, however, was tragically killed days before the war
finished. He is currently thought of as one of Britain s most noteworthy war poets. `Exposure
gives a direct image of life in the trenches during WW1. By the winter of 1917, the two sides had
huge losses of soldiers and extremely frosty climate. It was said to be the coldest winter in living
memory. Many troopes created trench foot, an infection caused by feet being wet and frosty and
in boots for days on end. The image Owen created through descriptive words in the readers minds
conflicted with the scenes displayed by the British press.
In Jane WeirВґs poem, Poppies the effect of conflict of people not in the military is explored.

Fact Of Identity
The State or Fact of Being the Same
In the dictionary, identity is the state or fact of being the same , yet identity is much more than
that ( Identity ). Life is a journey in which people define themselves as an individual in order to
develop a sense of identity. However, the question is what is identity? Thomas Merton said in his
novel, Contemplation in a World of Action, A persondoes not simply receive his or her identity.
Identity is much more than the name of features one is born with. Identity is something people
must create for themselves by making choices that are significant and that require a courageous
commitment in the face of challenges. Identity means having ideas and values that one lives by.
Identity is something people establish for themselves as supported in the literatures of Brent
Staples, Nancy Mairs, and Truman Capote.
In the article, Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space , Brent Staples established an identity
based on his actions and beliefs rather than the assumptions made by the public based on his
appearance. While walking down the street, Staples whistles ... Show more content on

The Process Of Management By Exception
So, the process of management by exception is essentially about ensuring the management focuses
on the policy strategies and decisions, getting involved with the day to day activities only when
large deviations occur. What about the principles? What are some of the core characteristics you
need to ensure are in place for the system to work?
A systematic approach
Management by exception requires a systematic approach to work. What this means in practice is
that all the operational needs and requirements of the organisation must be properly understood
and outline. Essentially, the organisation must be aware of everything going on and have a clear
set of standards it follows. Management by exceptions cannot be achieved without a proper set of
standards and procedures. Quite simply, you can t notice deviations, if you don t even know what
the standard or the so called norm looks like.
The framework requires a rather meticulous approach to implementation. In order to establish a
systematic approach and guarantee positive results, your should take the following steps:
Analyse operational needs and requirements, as well as data.
Create and maintain a set of policy standards.
Collect, classify, draft and interpret reports.
Make decisions based on the pre determined requirements.
If you have a set of goals for the management style, you focus on determining the deviations your
organisation should be alarmed by, and you establish a routine for collecting and analysing data,

The movie, Through Deaf Eyes, taught me a lot about the deaf community. After watching the

was that they are just like hearing people and they never think that they are incapable of anything.
I think it was really fascinating to see that how the deaf community does not think about the things
they are unable to do. Instead, they focus on things they can do and what new things they get to
learn. I also learned how there are two worlds, named as Earth and Eyeth, according to the movie.

Most people are born in a cultural group getting direct access to their family and community,

Malcolm Gladwell And Dead Poets Society
Everyone has their own interpretation of the word success. Individuals might even have their own
personal explanation of how they came to be successful. However, these personal explanations are
usually incorrect. Malcolm Gladwell, Steve Jobs, and the film, Dead Poets Society have a mutual
understanding of success, making them interconnective. Although success can be interpreted in
various ways, success is attained through hidden advantages, extraordinary opportunities, and
significant intelligence.
Unfortunately, an individual s personal qualities does not explain how they became successful.
There are often hidden advantages acquired in a successful person. Certain aspects about an
individual s life can turn out to be an advantage. In the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell describes
the system of Canadian hockey leagues. The elegibility cutoff age for ameatur hockey leagues

Introduction
Wilson s disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, where copper is unable to be
absorbed properly in the body and accumulates in tissue. This condition is known to have
neurological and psychiatric symptoms, due to lesions associated with copper build up in the

in the Wilson disease protein gene on the 13th chromosome; a copper transporting P type ATPase
also known as ATP7B protein. I recently discovered that this disease runs in my family; both my

skewed for dramatic effect? The Big Short tells the story of the financial crisis of 2008 and
tackles the issue of corporate greed in the form of the true stories of a few men who saw the
crisis coming. The issue is not overblown at all. This can be observed by simply looking to the
devastation and chaos caused by banks trying to make money by preying on the poor and un
informed in the years following 2008. Most of us are old enough to remember the mind
numbingly large number of people that were affected in several ways when the housing market
crashed. Unfortunately, many are also old enough to have been directly affected by the choices
big banks made for decades. Because there was such a large event directly caused by the issue of
corporate greed, there are plenty examples in daily life to suggest that The Big Short does not
skew the issue for dramatic effect. Almost all economists have weighed in on the economic
failure in journals discussing topics such as corporate greed and the aftermath of the collapse. In
terms of severity, the financial collapse of 2008 is second only to the Great Depression in
American history. This fact alone is enough to prove that The Big Short did not skew the issue for
dramatic effect. But looking deeper into the situation, we can see that

Roles of Government Agencies in the food Manufacturing by the
Small scale farmers:
Food is needed by our body to develop, repair body tissue, cells to produce energy for day to day
activities. Food is made up of vital supplements that body needed in adequate quantities.
Micronutrient such as minerals and vitamins are needed in small quantities. Macronutrients such as
carbohydrates, fat and protein are required in large amount. The United States Department of
Agriculture has been said to have compromised their values in the food service sector. The Body

The regulation imposed on the small scale farmer favors the large scale farmer who could afford
the terms. Efforts are not made on the genetically modified species. The slaughter house and the
beef industries in the large firms have abandoned the rudiment and ethics in food processing and
management. They were concerns with the profit margins they could realize in short time.
Large fund were pumped into the project, unskilled laborers were employed to handle food.
Science based fertilizer and cloning were the order of the day people. Expansion in the
production chain brings a lot of compromise to quality and standard of the product. The use of
conservative on products has caused more harm. There are more cases of obesity and chronic
diseases. The Fresh milk was substituted with stepped down pasteurized milk. It is good to get
rid of the dangerous germ, but pasteurization does more harm when exposed to high temperature.
Most of the individual who uses fresh milk were not considered. There are great numbers of cases
where local farmers were kept hostage for 6 7 hours with restriction to movement and pointing of
gun at them like a criminal. When approached about the seizure and arrest they were not able to

Essay about Witchcraft
Beginning in the Middle Ages and through the seventeenth centuries, an infiltration of witchcraft
persevered throughout Europe. The witch craze resulted in the torture and persecution of witches.
More than 100,000 of witches who were tried were centered in the area of southwestern Europe.
The mass hysteria of witches was denounced because of their rejection of God and their pact with
the devil, which resulted in harsh punishments and accusations. One reason for the persecution of
witches was they were thought to be the cause of bad harvests, epidemics, natural disasters, and
personal tragedies. Witches also had a part in the religious aspect of Europe. The witches were
persecuted because of the lack of a main religion, which was... Show more content on

(Document A7). Roger North, brother of Chief Justice Exeter explains that if a judge were to go
against the public opinion, then the townspeople would think he is not religious and would then
possibly be accused. (Document A6) This is an indication that people of all social classes could
be targets. In Europe it can be concluded that many had xenophobia of different people or
prejudices, but they were held mostly against older women. This is because during the
Renaissance people had fears of the supernatural and forces of nature or God, which led to the
beliefs of superstition. Therefore, the future mass hysteria of witches would be denounced based on
the Renaissance views. In the Middle Ages to the 16th century it can be finalized that the elderly,
female, and poor working class were the majority of the accused (Documents D1, 2,3). Statistics
drawn from the contemporary court records conclude that most of the suspected witches were
above the age of 50 and 80% of females were executed for witchcraft. The trials of witches were
centered in southwestern Europe because these bordering areas lacked a strong central authority
and were places of social chaos. W.Fulbecke believed that witches aimed at the destruction of
others through the spread of their own diseases to others, based on their pact with Satan (Document

Behavior Modification Final Report
Lose 10 pounds by Exercising 30 Minutes a Day: By the End of Semester
My topic for the Behavior Modification was to lose 10 pounds by exercising at least 30 minutes a
day along with pursuing a healthy diet by the end of the semester. The strategies I incorporated to
support this goal are: phone apps and using the P90X exercise program. The thought of using the
apps, is to see the actual data and to point out unhealthy behaviors. Furthermore, healthy eating and
daily exercise would promote sound body and mind along with restful sleep patterns. I also
included prayer in my everyday workouts asking for the strength and stamina to get through the day.
The P90X program publicizes muscle confusion to affirm the effectiveness of the workouts. This
particular program suggests you take a before and after picture of yourself for motivation, which I
do not feel comfortable with sharing at this time due to the program does suggest you continue the
program for 90 days to see ultimate results. Consequently, I have not gone through the 90 days for I
started in September. I struggled with the program and found I needed to modify many of the
moves due to knee pain. Fortunately, one of the wonderful things about the ... Show more content

next day. I found if I were to snack throughout the day with healthy option, I was less likely to
make bad choices due to hunger pangs. I will continue to document my exercise and food intake

A Nation Of Laws For America
July 4, 1776; Independence day, the day America became its own independent nation from the
rule of King George III of Great Britain. With the new country, the Founding Fathers believed it
to be best to have law governing the nation instead of man governing the nation. The Founding
Fathers wanted a nation of laws due to their experiences with King George III and his unfair
rulings. With this, though some people would disagree, it would create what the United States
of America is today; a nation of law, protecting the people s civil freedoms. What exactly led the
Founding Fathers to their idea of a nation of laws for America? In 1765, the British Parliament
passed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was an act that was implemented in the American colonies
that required most printed material to be taxed. The American colonies believed this to be unfair
because they did not have a say in the taxation. After months of protesting, the act was vetoed,
but a new act was implemented into the colonies in 1773. This act, the Tea Act, forced the
colonists to purchase tea from one and only one company. These were the sparks that would soon
start a revolution. This is the result of being ruled by man. Because of this, because the Founding
Fathers did not want a repeat of what happened with Great Britain, because the Founding Fathers
knew that there would be corruption if a nation is ruled by man, they chose America to be a
nation to be ruled by law; a nation of laws. Being a nation of laws has

The Residential School System
As previously stated, the main goal of the residential school system was to assimilate aboriginal
children and was thought to make them more functional in Canadian society. Children ranging from
4 16 were taken from their homes and families and re homed in institutions with the goal of
assimilation in mind (Nagy, 2012). These institutions were often incredibly harmful to the students
because they were not well kept or staffed, and were severely underfunded. These issues resulted in
malnutrition, diseases, abuse, and even death. Children who attended were subject to abuse
emotionally, physically, and sexually (Chansonneuve, 2012). Along with these issues, the absence
of family, native language, and tradition caused the children to feel... Show more content on

Some other affects of residential schools as described by elders include: loss of language, loss of
sexuality, loss of spirituality, developing shame to people, anxiety, and loss of traditional food
source (Chartrand, 2006).
The MГ©tis people of Canada were not originally required to attend residential schools. The Roman
Catholic Church urged the government to include these people to increase funding, and fill up the
schools. The government initially opposed this idea, but admitted MГ©tis to the school only when
there were not enough Indian students in the area where the school was located. Many MГ©tis
children were not even recorded as enrolled in the institutions making it difficult to determine
exactly how many children attended (Logan, 2006).
The Residential School experience proved to be even harder for MГ©tis children. They were
referred to as Half Breeds and were not recognized by the First Nations and Non First Nations so
they were considered outsiders by both. A study done by Tricia Logan explains that although the
MГ©tis children were subject to the same conditions and rules as the other children, when
surveyed it was clear that their stories differed from those of other First Nation s (Daniels, 2006).
Along with already being considered outsiders by those around them, the funding for MГ©tis
children also created the image of them being outsiders (Daniels, 2006). A survivor of Ile a La

Essay On Social Identity
Social media is often praised for its ability to connect people worldwide, but in reality, it is
forcing us further apart; we are no longer individuals but are instead creating for ourselves a fake
social identity. Nicholas Carr, author of Is Google Making Us Stupid? focuses on how reading on
the Internethas made it almost impossible for us to do deep reading. In Just Between You, Me, and
My 622 BFF S, Peggy Orenstein looks at how social media has stolen younger girl s identities, and
formed their sexual identity. Chuck Klosterman in his article Electric Funeral sees the Internet as a

When Google was first created, its goal was to organize the world s information and make it
universally accessible and useful ( How We Started and Where We Are Today ). There is
certainly nothing sinister in the mission statement, and undeniably Google has proved to be an
essential and convenient part of life. However, convenience is the dominant issue at play here.
Research no longer need hours to uncover; in as few as five minutes, one can have an answer,
source, or image ready to absorb and spit out in whatever paper or conversation they might have.
This is the type of fast pace environment that is negatively affecting us; we are conditioned to find
our answers quickly. How many of us have actually gone to page 2 in an Internet search? If our
answer is not given in the first few links, we rephrase the question in order to get the answer we
need. We train ourselves to work fast and efficiently, and while that might be helpful at the
moment, overall it is hindering our ability to think deeply about issues. This inability to think not
only affects our research, but our day to day lives; we have trained ourselves to glance at an
image or post, and immediately draw assumptions from it. Social media is designed to be simple
and usable to all age groups, which forces us to simplify our posts,

The s Philosophies About The Increased Globalization Of...
1.Appiah s philosophies about the increased globalization of the world, or at least the increased
access to cultures which often did not have significant interaction, claim that it has the overall
potential to be a net positive. His theories have less to do with the actions of sovereign entity and
more to do with the behavior of individuals, but he does simultaneously critique what he believes
to be unethical cultural practices made by societies and so the actions of the leadership and
cultural paradigm of the Revolution will be what is being judged based on the framework of
Appiah s philosophy.
a.Appiah s assertions have to do with something which he deems to be other than globalization:
cosmopolitanism. For Appiah, cosmopolitanism goes beyond mere globalization a term that once
referred to a marketing strategy, and then came to designate a macroeconomic thesis, and now can
seem to encompass everything and nothing (Appiah xiii) and even multiculturalism another shape
shifter, which so often designates the disease which it purports to cure (Appiah xiii) representing a
grudging coexistence and maintained separation between different cultures. Beyond these
insufficient terms and concepts, Appiah proposes cosmopolitanism which was coined by the
Cynics of the 4th century BC and means citizen of the universe (Appiah xiv). As cosmopolitanism
is mainly an act undertaken by individuals, a cosmopolitan is someone who places their
membership to humanity over the loyalty to

The Disadvantages of Standardized Testing Essay
Standardized tests are exams that are supposed to measure a child s academic knowledge but have
long been a controversial subject of discussion. Although it is one method to see how a child is
performing, is it the best method? Standardized testing can be biased or unfair, inhibit both the
teacher s and the children s creativity and flexibility, affect funding for schools, cause untested
subjects to be eliminated from the curriculum, and cause anxiety for children and teachers.
Standardized tests can also be biased or unfair because questions on these tests necessitate
understanding and abilities that typically children from advantaged families have (Kohn, A, 2000).
Children who live in poorer communities have a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times children who are held back do not improve educationally, become emotionally hurt
from being retained, lose interest in school, and are more likely to be a drop out (Fair Test,
2007). Standardized tests take away from a teacher s flexibility and creativity. With that in mind,
teachers do not fit into the same mold either. Each teacher has their own style of teaching and
should be given the flexibility to teach in a way that will inspire their students. Teachers are not
able to be as creative in their teaching styles, when focused on test preparation. Many talented
teachers leave the field of education when they lose the freedom to teach their own way. Teaching
has gone from a creative art to a structured implementation as the focus shifts to standardized tests.
Children are no longer encouraged to be creative in the test prep environment. Instead, they are
being taught to perform well on standardized tests and are labeled as unintelligent if they don t.
Young children are born with creativity and we see that when they are playing and pretending.
According to Sir Ken Robinson, in Slon s (2013) article, by the time they get to be adults, most kids
have lost that capacity to be creative. The fundamentals of creation and experimentation are not part
of the standardized testing mechanism. Not every teacher teaching the same subject is going to

of officers employed under the Baltimore Police Department. Diversity should not merely be
based on race but on the background as well. BPD should only assign officers to work in a
jurisdiction where they are familiar with the residents and the demographics of the area. For
example, if an area is 90% African Americanand is known for high drug trafficking, an officer
from a county with majority white residents and only a discriminatory point of view on African
Americans should not be assigned to work in this area. It is important that officers familiarize

media has fundamentally changed the ways in which we communicate. One significant aspect of
communication that has been drastically altered is the news media and their presence on social
media sites such as Twitter primarily as a result of our changing interactions with and
procurement of the news. Over the course of the last semester, I worked as an Assistant Producer
for both Unify and Activism Media, which are sister companies. One of the most significant
experiences I had during my internship was in my work as a journalist for Activism Media. I was
assigned to cover the public s responses to the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests
following the failure to indict both Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo (also known as the Shut it
Down protests). My experiences during this assignment illustrated a number of theoretical concepts
in the media studies field chiefly: citizen journalism, agenda setting, and framing. The creation of
the printing press and news media significantly altered the world s ability to communicate. Many
scholars have argued that with the printing press came a transformation of the public sphere and
the public s ability to discuss and identify societal issues. JГјrgen Habermas, a German sociologist
and philosopher, posits that early modern capitalism created conditions for this bourgeois public
sphere to emerge. Numerous conditions permitted

Serial Killers On Death Row
Capital punishment aims to avoid injustice and crime rates, as it now verified to be legal and
constitutional. This method can help save lives, especially because of serial killers on death
row. Serial killers slaughter many people, as they would kill innocent people on the streets. A
prime example is Ted Bundy. According to his lawyer, Bundy killed over a hundred people and
most of them were women who he also sexually assaulted. He was also extremely intelligent, as
he escaped from the jail cells in both Utah and Colorado. Therefore, for somebody like him, a
life sentence may not work because he was able to charm the workers. With his charm and
personality, he received many privileges, such as library access. He also seemed to show no
remorse, because he openly denied killing innocent bystanders until the night before his execution.
Therefore, for somebody like him; whom the public somehow obsessed over, was aware of his
horrid actions, and knew how to escape jail; a life in prisonwould not have succeeded. He was
executed and this may have saved many lives of women because there is no longer the possibly of
him escaping jail for a third time. In addition, criminologists have longed studied that statistics of
the effects on crimerates. Ernest van den Haag, a professor at Fordham University, wrote, Even
though statistical demonstrations are not conclusive, and perhaps cannot be, capital punishmentis
likely to deter more than other punishments because people fear death

Chaos Is A Modern Science That Changed The Way Scientists...
Chaos is a modern science that has changed the way scientists look to the world. It studies the
behaviour of nonlinear systems according to their initial state. We can see chaotic behaviour
almost everywhere. As an example, rising of cigarette smoke behaviour seems smooth at the
beginning then suddenly it breaks into wild swirls. A flag moves back and forth in a chaotic way,
a dripping faucet goes from a steady pattern to a random one. Chaos appears in the behaviour of the
weather, the behaviour of world economics, and the behaviour of fluid turbulence. Despite the
environment of the system, the behaviour follows the same newly discovered laws. The realization
of chaos theoryhas begun to change the way we think about the future [1].
The chaos term introduced in the field of dynamics while studying the behaviour of nonlinear
system that is essentially depends on its initial condition. Strogatz in his book defined the term
Chaos as a periodic long term behaviour in a deterministic system that exhibits sensitive dependence
on initial conditions [2].
Logistic equation is an example of one dimensional attractor. In order for us to study complicated
phenomena we have to understand higher order attractor functions. Henon attractor is an example
of two dimensional attractor. It was introduced by a theoretical astronomer Michel Henon while he
was studying stars movement in space [2]. On the other hand, Lorenz system is three dimensional
system published in the Journal of

Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain
during the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a line about human nature
from John Donne s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of No man is an Iland; every man is a
piece of the continent, a part of the main, (Preface). Within the novel, anti fascist American man,
Robert Jordan, transforms from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers
the idea Donne put onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical
conclusion (4, 247); however, this change almost solely comes from the plotdevice of romantic love
, which is only able to be understood as logical with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to
judge the plot of the journey of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a
character should first be analyzed. Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views
the world as a black and white battle of ideas and his only fear was not to complete his duty to
his cause in life and war, rather than the people the fighting truly stands for (51), which also
extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade, Anselmo (4). Jordan as an independent loner
represents a man believing he is an Iland, in how he chooses to separate himself from others and
believes his ideology is flawless, rather than trying to improve as a human. Jordan eventually falls
out of his linear views,

The Treaty Of Versailles On The World After The War Peace...
Introduction:
The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty created and signed to bring peace to the world after the war.
The Treaty started being written in January 1919 at the Paris Peace Conference, and was
authored by The Big Three . The Big Three was an allied group who consisted of France, Britain
and the USA. The French President was George Clemenceau, the British Prime Minister David
Lloyd George and the American President was Woodrow Wilson. All three leaders were
influential men who wanted to exert their power upon the treaty. It was a long 7 months before
the treaty was signed. It was signed by the allies with Germany being a reluctant signatory.
Germany felt that the treaty was created to force revenge upon them and put her to shame.
Germany felt this way due to unfairness and demanding content in the war guilt clause. On the
other hand, Woodrow Wilson was striving for world peace through the establishment of the
League of Nations. But was the treaty really designed for the peace of the world or for the revenge
of Germany?
Paragraph 1: The War Guilt Clause and Was Germany Guilty for the outbreak of War?
In the Treaty of Versailles, Article 231 (also known as the War Guilt clause) was the opening article
of the reparations section in the treaty. It states that The Allied and associated governments affirm
and Germany accepts responsibility for Germany and her allies for causing all the loss and damage
to which the allied and associated governments and their nationals

Graffiti Is Art Not Vandalism
Graffiti Is Art Not Vandalism Graffiti can be found everywhere and anywhere. It is a way for
people to express themselves and be creative in a public manner. It shows how passionate and
talented they can be when it comes to drawing or tagging and have it displayed as a piece of art for
everyone to see. Graffitigoes way back to the ancient times and is now very well known in the
modern days which makes more and more people interested and fascinated by them. It can be
used in different types of ways. Many artists can either spray paint, carve, paste, or stencil them
on a surface. From how we see them today they are usually images of random cartoons, big
bubbly letters, vintage black and whites or inspirational quotes. Virtually anything colorful or
not and big that can be easily spotted. Graffiti is more superior to be known as art than vandalism
because it is a self expressing act. People need to be open minded about the images they see and
look at the message behind it or else they will immediately criticize and say it is vandalizing
property. It is a form of art not a crime. Going out of their way to trespass and damage property like
fences, road barriers, or warning signs is considered a crime. Art wise, it attracts large crowds and
shocks a few. It is a way to build a creative imagination and to be spontaneous. It really depends on
how people look and feel about it. But there are
artists that make street art which means that they are

Who Leaves A Sapphire Lying On The Ground Essay
Who leaves a sapphire just lying on the ground?
I bent over to pick up the twinkling gem. It was large, easily the size of a quarter, so it must be
expensive. I was no gemologist, but I did know that the larger the gem, the more pricey it was. I
rolled it around in my fingers, letting the light from the street lamps catch in all of its facets.
Beautiful. I breathe. The dark blue of the sapphire almost seemed velvety, like the night sky. Too
bad there weren t any specs of silver in the gem. Then it would really resemble the night sky.
I sigh, a deep ache forming in my chest. The memory of a country nightside still burned fresh in
my mind, as it wasn t long ago that I could marvel at the beauty of the night sky where I could
actually see it. Those days are gone now, at least for the time being.
I ll return it to the police tomorrow. Pocketing the jewel, I finished my walk back home.
The city where I now live is nice, if you like air pollution and noise keeping you up all night, that
is. Everyone is always saying that I ll get used to it everyone else already has but I haven t. Not yet.
I stared up at the dark sky. It was suffocating, like a heavy blanket with no promise of being lifted.
Nothing like my old home where the full moon was so bright, I could see almost as well as I can at
sunset. There were always places to explore in the woods. Bridges to cross and discovering new
surprises from nature used to be my life. Now, it s just pale buildings, pale

Physical Properties Of Matter, Density, Mass, And Volume
One of the physical properties of matter is density. Density is defined as a measure of how much
mass is contained in a given unit volume. A physical property can be measured without changing
the chemical identity of the substance. Since pure substances have unique density values,
measuring the density of a substance can help identify that substance. Densityis determined by
dividing the mass of a substance by its volume. Density, volume, and mass have a clear relationship
that can clearly be shown by the mathematical formula:
Density= Mass/Volume
In our experiment we used the determined mass and volume of the sample to calculate the density
of an irregular solid and of an unknown liquid. We then compared our density of our liquid with
densities of known substances to determine the identity of the unknown substance. The purpose of
the experiment was to determine the density of a solid and an unknown liquid. Furthermore, we
also evaluated the relationships of density, mass, and volume.
Keywords: Density, Mass, Volume
Introduction
Which is heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead? I m sure we have all heard this pretty
naive riddle. However, some people would think that the answer would be the pound of lead.
However, after this experiment we should all know the answer.
All matter has volume and mass. Density expresses the relationship of these two primary properties
of matter. Mass is the measure of how much matter an object contains. The more matter an object

Persuasive Functions Of John L. LewisSpeech
Persuasive Functions of John L. Lewis Speech
John L. Lewis was the only proponent of established labor unions in the 20th century. He
successfully led the labor movement that pushed for equal treatment of labor workers despite the
terrible economic condition.
Lewis spent his formative years in Iowa. As an adult, he was unsuccessful in entering the world
of politics and business. After he moved to Panama, Illinois he was first elected president of the
local United Mine Workers union. Next, Lewis was appointed an AFL organizer by Samuel
Gompers in 1911. His second UMW appointment was as a delegate to the AFL Convention in
1916. Finally, Lewis was appointed as vice president of the United Mine Workers Union. Lewis
begins to prescribe courses of action for workers to be part of a movement that pushed for a labor
union by organizing and uniting the discontented. In his speech he mentions enacting a policy to
enable the workers to stand as a unit (Lewis 3). John Lewis used his speech at the AFL convention
to establish himself as the leader of the labor movements and prescribe courses of action for the
workers by altering perceptions of reality and identity.
His speech at the American Federation of Labor allowed him to become the leader, but was
ineffective in convincing the AFL to establish industrial unions.
Furthermore, labor movements were part of the establishment (Jensen 29). Due to the strikes in
labor unions, it was necessary for a new type of labor leader to arise. At

My Experience With A Child
You have competition every day because you set such high standards for yourself that you have
to go out every day and live up to that (Michael Jordan). This quote perfectly describes my
mentality as a child and currently as a young adult. As a child, I was curious and determined as
my family recalls. My mother never lets me forget the number of times she had to free my fingers
from the holes of shopping carts because I was curious if they would fit. As I got older and a bit
more independent, I remember going into my kitchen cabinets and grabbing several different
ingredients, namely flour, oil, and water and creating different mixtures of different textures and
consistencies. I was fascinated in my creations. Along with this curiosity... Show more content on

After a successful freshman year, my advisor encouraged me to pursue a summer research
internship. I was offered an internship through the Massachusetts Life Science Center and was
placed at Pressure Biosciences Inc. (PBI) in Medford, Massachusetts. I was overjoyed to work in
the Boston area because of the blossoming biomedical engineering research centers. During my
time at PBI, I worked to improve both the yield and quality of the protein extracted from Formalin
Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) tissue, using high pressure systems engineered by PBI. Over the
course of my two month internship, I optimized the deparaffinization method of the FFPE tissues
along with the amount and type of pressure (steady or oscillating) that was applied to the samples. I
improved basic lab techniques, and acquired new skills such as various sonication and
homogenization methods and running RC DC (reducing agent and detergent compatible) protein
assays. I also gained experience working independently on research projects. This internship
introduced me to the life of an independent research scientist and motivated me to pursue a career
in research. The most impactful aspect of this internship, however, was the fact that it forced me to
abandon my life science based comfort zone, and start to think and research as an engineer. I
became familiar with the high pressure equipment and its software, and I was absolutely fascinated

  • 2. Christianity In The Early Middle Ages Essay Christianity in Europe during the Medieval Period encountered many hindrances such as corruption, sex, the Avignon Captivity, and the Great Schism. However, even though the church encountered many controversies which eventually undermined the foundation of the church, monastic revival reformed the church and ultimately restored the original beliefs. Corruption was present in many forms within the church during the medieval period. Many clergy members were landowners in late medieval Christianity and if they were not, the church would count on the nobles to share their profits from their peasants work. (Christian History, 2015) It was also familiar for members of clergy to buy their positions in order to obtain power and wealth. Priests were also known for visiting taverns, gambling, and having orgies with quarrels and blasphemy. (Arnold, 1999) From the Early Middle Ages, through the reign of Charlemagne, the church accentuated the importance of clerical celibacy, however by Carolingian times, it became apparent that clerical celibacy would be impossible to enforce. The church disclosed that not all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Comparing Creation Myths of Ancient Egypt and The... Comparing Creation Myths of Ancient Egypt and The Christian Bible Creation in Ancient Egyptian religion can be much different than the creation account taken from The Bible. Genesis has a set description of The Beginning while there are several different versions and variations in Egyptian mythology. The versions range from a one god myth (Ptah; see picture) to the more common creator out of Nun, which in itself has several derivations. The Ogdoad is a grouping of eight gods that existed before the creator and formed him. This version is taken from Middle Egypt at Hermopolis. The eight gods consisted of Amun, Huh, Kuk, and Nun and their counterparts (i.e. Nun and Naunet). They came together to create an egg that contains the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creation began by a bodily function of the creator god. Either through ejaculation, sneezing, or spitting the creator began to produce others (Redford). The creator god had other gods come into being and they in turn began to create until the ancient Egyptians had a sufficient explanation for there being here. The most popular creation myth, in present day is the one god myth. It existed yet, had a brief life and it was in the minority. Here Ptah was the closest thing to monotheism that the ancients had. This is a popular theme in Memphite theology, but it was present in parts of Egypt. Ptah supposedly had all that is manifest in thought and then created them with his Word (Baines, 1991). It is also said that the one god is and the other god names are used to personify an extension of the one god (Ancient Egyptian Religion pg. 2 and 3). Ptah creates the Ennead with thought and word. This monotheism was not very widespread and it did not last long. In Genesis, the first book of The Bible the Christian and Jewish creation story is told. God spoke and his Word was done. He made the heavens and the earth. He made light and drove away the dark. On the earth he created the waters and lands and man and beast. The last two accounts are similar in many ways. Ptah can be identified with God even though what they did to create was not exactly similar. Ptah created the Ennead while God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The company recalled twelve products for six different issues between their main company, Mattel, and their extended brand, Fisher Price. From June to September of 2007, Mattel s CEO, Robert Eckert supervised two health crises involving many popular toys within the #1 toycompany in the world. The employees have their safety at stake in the form of job security. • 10. Suffering In The Poems Of Wilfred Owen And Jane Weir Both poems display suffering in similar ways; Both poems demonstrate the effects of war. Wilfred Owen and Jane Weir are angry and frustrated about what has happened during and after the war. Questions are a most common feature of both poems, they are designed to make the reader think. Both writers make use of literary techniques to draw attention to especially important parts of the poems. Even though they displayed suffering in similar ways they still used their own ideas and approaches; Owen writes from the pointof view of someone who was involved in the war. Weir writes about mainly one soldier affected by the war. Owen had joined the army in 1915 yet was hospitalized in May 1917 experiencing shell shock. Owen, in the long run, came back to the war, however, was tragically killed days before the war finished. He is currently thought of as one of Britain s most noteworthy war poets. `Exposure gives a direct image of life in the trenches during WW1. By the winter of 1917, the two sides had huge losses of soldiers and extremely frosty climate. It was said to be the coldest winter in living memory. Many troopes created trench foot, an infection caused by feet being wet and frosty and in boots for days on end. • 13. The Process Of Management By Exception So, the process of management by exception is essentially about ensuring the management focuses on the policy strategies and decisions, getting involved with the day to day activities only when large deviations occur. What about the principles? What are some of the core characteristics you need to ensure are in place for the system to work? A systematic approach Management by exception requires a systematic approach to work. What this means in practice is that all the operational needs and requirements of the organisation must be properly understood and outline. Essentially, the organisation must be aware of everything going on and have a clear set of standards it follows. Management by exceptions cannot be achieved without a proper set of standards and procedures. Quite simply, you can t notice deviations, if you don t even know what the standard or the so called norm looks like. The framework requires a rather meticulous approach to implementation. In order to establish a systematic approach and guarantee positive results, your should take the following steps: Analyse operational needs and requirements, as well as data. Create and maintain a set of policy standards. Collect, classify, draft and interpret reports. Make decisions based on the pre determined requirements. If you have a set of goals for the management style, you focus on determining the deviations your organisation should be alarmed by, and you establish a routine for collecting and analysing data, ... • 22. The Issue Of Corporate Greed In exploring the issue of corporate greed, especially on Wall Street, we can decide if an issue is overblown by asking one question, Can a life ruining, economy changing financial crisis be skewed for dramatic effect? The Big Short tells the story of the financial crisis of 2008 and tackles the issue of corporate greed in the form of the true stories of a few men who saw the crisis coming. The issue is not overblown at all. This can be observed by simply looking to the devastation and chaos caused by banks trying to make money by preying on the poor and un informed in the years following 2008. Most of us are old enough to remember the mind numbingly large number of people that were affected in several ways when the housing market crashed. Unfortunately, many are also old enough to have been directly affected by the choices big banks made for decades. Because there was such a large event directly caused by the issue of corporate greed, there are plenty examples in daily life to suggest that The Big Short does not skew the issue for dramatic effect. Almost all economists have weighed in on the economic failure in journals discussing topics such as corporate greed and the aftermath of the collapse. In terms of severity, the financial collapse of 2008 is second only to the Great Depression in American history. This fact alone is enough to prove that The Big Short did not skew the issue for dramatic effect. But looking deeper into the situation, we can see that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The witch craze resulted in the torture and persecution of witches. More than 100,000 of witches who were tried were centered in the area of southwestern Europe. The mass hysteria of witches was denounced because of their rejection of God and their pact with the devil, which resulted in harsh punishments and accusations. Roger North, brother of Chief Justice Exeter explains that if a judge were to go against the public opinion, then the townspeople would think he is not religious and would then possibly be accused. (Document A6) This is an indication that people of all social classes could be targets. In Europe it can be concluded that many had xenophobia of different people or prejudices, but they were held mostly against older women. This is because during the Renaissance people had fears of the supernatural and forces of nature or God, which led to the beliefs of superstition. Therefore, the future mass hysteria of witches would be denounced based on the Renaissance views. In the Middle Ages to the 16th century it can be finalized that the elderly, female, and poor working class were the majority of the accused (Documents D1, 2,3). Statistics drawn from the contemporary court records conclude that most of the suspected witches were above the age of 50 and 80% of females were executed for witchcraft. • 29. A Nation Of Laws For America July 4, 1776; Independence day, the day America became its own independent nation from the rule of King George III of Great Britain. With the new country, the Founding Fathers believed it to be best to have law governing the nation instead of man governing the nation. The Founding Fathers wanted a nation of laws due to their experiences with King George III and his unfair rulings. With this, though some people would disagree, it would create what the United States of America is today; a nation of law, protecting the people s civil freedoms. What exactly led the Founding Fathers to their idea of a nation of laws for America? In 1765, the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was an act that was implemented in the American colonies that required most printed material to be taxed. The American colonies believed this to be unfair because they did not have a say in the taxation. After months of protesting, the act was vetoed, but a new act was implemented into the colonies in 1773. This act, the Tea Act, forced the colonists to purchase tea from one and only one company. These were the sparks that would soon start a revolution. This is the result of being ruled by man. Because of this, because the Founding Fathers did not want a repeat of what happened with Great Britain, because the Founding Fathers knew that there would be corruption if a nation is ruled by man, they chose America to be a nation to be ruled by law; a nation of laws. Standardized tests take away from a teacher s flexibility and creativity. With that in mind, teachers do not fit into the same mold either. Each teacher has their own style of teaching and should be given the flexibility to teach in a way that will inspire their students. Teachers are not able to be as creative in their teaching styles, when focused on test preparation. Many talented teachers leave the field of education when they lose the freedom to teach their own way. • 39. Baltimore Police Department The United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division published a report entitled the Investigation for the Baltimore City Policy Department on August 10, 2016, based on suspicions that the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) engages in practices that violate federal anti discrimination laws, the First Amendment, and Fourth Amendment. According to the report, the BaltimorePoliceDepartment is guilty of making stops, searches, and arrests without having probable cause, especially against African Americans. African Americans are also unlawfully subject to uses of excessive force and harsh retaliation by police for constitutionally protected expression. Furthermore, because the Baltimore Police Department has a multitude of system deficiencies,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The report has presented overwhelming statistical evidence to support this conclusion. BPD stops over 500 pedestrians per every 1,000 African Americans and only under 200 pedestrians for every 1,000 Caucasian Residents. A solution to this issue would be to have a diverse/variety of officers employed under the Baltimore Police Department. Diversity should not merely be based on race but on the background as well. BPD should only assign officers to work in a jurisdiction where they are familiar with the residents and the demographics of the area. For example, if an area is 90% African Americanand is known for high drug trafficking, an officer from a county with majority white residents and only a discriminatory point of view on African Americans should not be assigned to work in this area. It is important that officers familiarize themselves with the area they are policing because it will give them a certain level of understanding and aid in determining how they should approach situations. Also, officers should be able to honestly express when they are an assigned to an environment where they do not feel comfortable. Keeping the lines of communication open between police officers and administration is very important. Officers should be able to perform their duties in a comfortable environment ... • 41. Social Media And Its Impact On New Media The widespread use of social media and the resulting transition to a system dependent on new media has fundamentally changed the ways in which we communicate. One significant aspect of communication that has been drastically altered is the news media and their presence on social media sites such as Twitter primarily as a result of our changing interactions with and procurement of the news. Over the course of the last semester, I worked as an Assistant Producer for both Unify and Activism Media, which are sister companies. One of the most significant experiences I had during my internship was in my work as a journalist for Activism Media. I was assigned to cover the public s responses to the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests following the failure to indict both Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo (also known as the Shut it Down protests). My experiences during this assignment illustrated a number of theoretical concepts in the media studies field chiefly: citizen journalism, agenda setting, and framing. The creation of the printing press and news media significantly altered the world s ability to communicate. Many scholars have argued that with the printing press came a transformation of the public sphere and the public s ability to discuss and identify societal issues. JГјrgen Habermas, a German sociologist and philosopher, posits that early modern capitalism created conditions for this bourgeois public sphere to emerge. Numerous conditions permitted ... • 42. Serial Killers On Death Row Capital punishment aims to avoid injustice and crime rates, as it now verified to be legal and constitutional. This method can help save lives, especially because of serial killers on death row. Serial killers slaughter many people, as they would kill innocent people on the streets. A prime example is Ted Bundy. According to his lawyer, Bundy killed over a hundred people and most of them were women who he also sexually assaulted. He was also extremely intelligent, as he escaped from the jail cells in both Utah and Colorado. Therefore, for somebody like him, a life sentence may not work because he was able to charm the workers. With his charm and personality, he received many privileges, such as library access. He also seemed to show no remorse, because he openly denied killing innocent bystanders until the night before his execution. Therefore, for somebody like him; whom the public somehow obsessed over, was aware of his horrid actions, and knew how to escape jail; a life in prisonwould not have succeeded. He was executed and this may have saved many lives of women because there is no longer the possibly of him escaping jail for a third time. In addition, criminologists have longed studied that statistics of the effects on crimerates. Ernest van den Haag, a professor at Fordham University, wrote, Even though statistical demonstrations are not conclusive, and perhaps cannot be, capital punishmentis likely to deter more than other punishments because people fear death ... • 43. Chaos Is A Modern Science That Changed The Way Scientists... Chaos is a modern science that has changed the way scientists look to the world. It studies the behaviour of nonlinear systems according to their initial state. We can see chaotic behaviour almost everywhere. As an example, rising of cigarette smoke behaviour seems smooth at the beginning then suddenly it breaks into wild swirls. A flag moves back and forth in a chaotic way, a dripping faucet goes from a steady pattern to a random one. Chaos appears in the behaviour of the weather, the behaviour of world economics, and the behaviour of fluid turbulence. Despite the environment of the system, the behaviour follows the same newly discovered laws. The realization of chaos theoryhas begun to change the way we think about the future [1]. The chaos term introduced in the field of dynamics while studying the behaviour of nonlinear system that is essentially depends on its initial condition. Strogatz in his book defined the term Chaos as a periodic long term behaviour in a deterministic system that exhibits sensitive dependence on initial conditions [2]. Logistic equation is an example of one dimensional attractor. In order for us to study complicated phenomena we have to understand higher order attractor functions. Henon attractor is an example of two dimensional attractor. It was introduced by a theoretical astronomer Michel Henon while he was studying stars movement in space [2]. On the other hand, Lorenz system is three dimensional system published in the Journal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain during the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a line about human nature from John Donne s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main, (Preface). Within the novel, anti fascist American man, Robert Jordan, transforms from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea Donne put onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical conclusion (4, 247); however, this change almost solely comes from the plotdevice of romantic love , which is only able to be understood as logical with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a character should first be analyzed. Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views the world as a black and white battle of ideas and his only fear was not to complete his duty to his cause in life and war, rather than the people the fighting truly stands for (51), which also extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade, Anselmo (4). Jordan as an independent loner represents a man believing he is an Iland, in how he chooses to separate himself from others and believes his ideology is flawless, rather than trying to improve as a human. Jordan eventually falls out of his linear views, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Treaty Of Versailles On The World After The War Peace... Introduction: The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty created and signed to bring peace to the world after the war. The Treaty started being written in January 1919 at the Paris Peace Conference, and was authored by The Big Three . The Big Three was an allied group who consisted of France, Britain and the USA. The French President was George Clemenceau, the British Prime Minister David Lloyd George and the American President was Woodrow Wilson. All three leaders were influential men who wanted to exert their power upon the treaty. It was a long 7 months before the treaty was signed. It was signed by the allies with Germany being a reluctant signatory. Germany felt that the treaty was created to force revenge upon them and put her to shame. Germany felt this way due to unfairness and demanding content in the war guilt clause. On the other hand, Woodrow Wilson was striving for world peace through the establishment of the League of Nations. But was the treaty really designed for the peace of the world or for the revenge of Germany? Paragraph 1: The War Guilt Clause and Was Germany Guilty for the outbreak of War? In the Treaty of Versailles, Article 231 (also known as the War Guilt clause) was the opening article of the reparations section in the treaty. It states that The Allied and associated governments affirm and Germany accepts responsibility for Germany and her allies for causing all the loss and damage to which the allied and associated governments and their nationals ... It shows how passionate and talented they can be when it comes to drawing or tagging and have it displayed as a piece of art for everyone to see. Graffitigoes way back to the ancient times and is now very well known in the modern days which makes more and more people interested and fascinated by them. It can be used in different types of ways. Many artists can either spray paint, carve, paste, or stencil them on a surface. From how we see them today they are usually images of random cartoons, big bubbly letters, vintage black and whites or inspirational quotes. Virtually anything colorful or not and big that can be easily spotted. Graffiti is more superior to be known as art than vandalism because it is a self expressing act. People need to be open minded about the images they see and look at the message behind it or else they will immediately criticize and say it is vandalizing property. It is a form of art not a crime. Going out of their way to trespass and damage property like fences, road barriers, or warning signs is considered a crime. Art wise, it attracts large crowds and shocks a few. It is a way to build a creative imagination and to be spontaneous. It really depends on how people look and feel about it. But there are artists that make street art which means that they are ... • 49. Who Leaves A Sapphire Lying On The Ground Essay Who leaves a sapphire just lying on the ground? I bent over to pick up the twinkling gem. It was large, easily the size of a quarter, so it must be expensive. I was no gemologist, but I did know that the larger the gem, the more pricey it was. I rolled it around in my fingers, letting the light from the street lamps catch in all of its facets. Beautiful. I breathe. The dark blue of the sapphire almost seemed velvety, like the night sky. Too bad there weren t any specs of silver in the gem. Then it would really resemble the night sky. I sigh, a deep ache forming in my chest. The memory of a country nightside still burned fresh in my mind, as it wasn t long ago that I could marvel at the beauty of the night sky where I could actually see it. Those days are gone now, at least for the time being. I ll return it to the police tomorrow. Pocketing the jewel, I finished my walk back home. The city where I now live is nice, if you like air pollution and noise keeping you up all night, that is. Everyone is always saying that I ll get used to it everyone else already has but I haven t. Not yet. I stared up at the dark sky. It was suffocating, like a heavy blanket with no promise of being lifted. Nothing like my old home where the full moon was so bright, I could see almost as well as I can at sunset. There were always places to explore in the woods. Bridges to cross and discovering new surprises from nature used to be my life. Now, it s just pale buildings, pale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Physical Properties Of Matter, Density, Mass, And Volume One of the physical properties of matter is density. Density is defined as a measure of how much mass is contained in a given unit volume. A physical property can be measured without changing the chemical identity of the substance. Since pure substances have unique density values, measuring the density of a substance can help identify that substance. Densityis determined by dividing the mass of a substance by its volume. Density, volume, and mass have a clear relationship that can clearly be shown by the mathematical formula: Density= Mass/Volume In our experiment we used the determined mass and volume of the sample to calculate the density of an irregular solid and of an unknown liquid. We then compared our density of our liquid with densities of known substances to determine the identity of the unknown substance. The purpose of the experiment was to determine the density of a solid and an unknown liquid. Furthermore, we also evaluated the relationships of density, mass, and volume. Keywords: Density, Mass, Volume Introduction Which is heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead? I m sure we have all heard this pretty naive riddle. However, some people would think that the answer would be the pound of lead. However, after this experiment we should all know the answer. All matter has volume and mass. Density expresses the relationship of these two primary properties of matter. Mass is the measure of how much matter an object contains. The more matter an object ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Persuasive Functions Of John L. LewisSpeech Persuasive Functions of John L. Lewis Speech John L. Lewis was the only proponent of established labor unions in the 20th century. He successfully led the labor movement that pushed for equal treatment of labor workers despite the terrible economic condition. Lewis spent his formative years in Iowa. As an adult, he was unsuccessful in entering the world of politics and business. After he moved to Panama, Illinois he was first elected president of the local United Mine Workers union. Next, Lewis was appointed an AFL organizer by Samuel Gompers in 1911. His second UMW appointment was as a delegate to the AFL Convention in 1916. Finally, Lewis was appointed as vice president of the United Mine Workers Union. Lewis begins to prescribe courses of action for workers to be part of a movement that pushed for a labor union by organizing and uniting the discontented. In his speech he mentions enacting a policy to enable the workers to stand as a unit (Lewis 3). John Lewis used his speech at the AFL convention to establish himself as the leader of the labor movements and prescribe courses of action for the workers by altering perceptions of reality and identity. His speech at the American Federation of Labor allowed him to become the leader, but was ineffective in convincing the AFL to establish industrial unions. Furthermore, labor movements were part of the establishment (Jensen 29). Due to the strikes in labor unions, it was necessary for a new type of labor leader to arise. At ... This quote perfectly describes my mentality as a child and currently as a young adult. As a child, I was curious and determined as my family recalls. My mother never lets me forget the number of times she had to free my fingers from the holes of shopping carts because I was curious if they would fit. As I got older and a bit more independent, I remember going into my kitchen cabinets and grabbing several different ingredients, namely flour, oil, and water and creating different mixtures of different textures and consistencies. I was fascinated in my creations. Along with this curiosity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a successful freshman year, my advisor encouraged me to pursue a summer research internship. I was offered an internship through the Massachusetts Life Science Center and was placed at Pressure Biosciences Inc. (PBI) in Medford, Massachusetts. I was overjoyed to work in the Boston area because of the blossoming biomedical engineering research centers. During my time at PBI, I worked to improve both the yield and quality of the protein extracted from Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) tissue, using high pressure systems engineered by PBI. Over the course of my two month internship, I optimized the deparaffinization method of the FFPE tissues along with the amount and type of pressure (steady or oscillating) that was applied to the samples. I improved basic lab techniques, and acquired new skills such as various sonication and homogenization methods and running RC DC (reducing agent and detergent compatible) protein assays. I also gained experience working independently on research projects. This internship introduced me to the life of an independent research scientist and motivated me to pursue a career in research. The most impactful aspect of this internship, however, was the fact that it forced me to abandon my life science based comfort zone, and start to think and research as an engineer. I became familiar with the high pressure equipment and its software, and I was absolutely fascinated by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
