Transformer?
A transformer is an electrical
device which, by the principles
of electromagnetic induction,
transfers electrical energy from
one electric circuit to another,
without changing the
frequency.

Types of Transformer
Instrument transformers are high accuracy class electrical
devices used to isolate or transform voltage or current levels.
Instrument Transformer
A current transformer (CT) is a
type of transformer that is used to
reduce or multiply an alternating
current (AC). It produces a current
in its secondary which is
proportional to the current in its
primary. Current transformers,
along with voltage or potential
transformers, are instrument
transformers.
A Potential transformer is
actually an instrument
transformer that used in
power systems to step down
primary current votages and
secondary voltages from a
higher level to lower
secondary potential output
voltage level.
A transformer that increases the voltage from primary
to secondary (more secondary winding turns than
primary winding turns) is called a step-up
transformer. Conversely, a transformer designed to do
just the opposite is called a step-down transformer.
